New Recruiting Thread

That last thread was getting messed up.

So I’d say that was a successful weekend. Two 3-stars and a hard-hitting, high ceiling 2-star guy.

It will be interesting to see what Andersen does with an entire season. (a) He is probably making enemies (b) he doesn’t seem to care. Does it come back to bite him at some point?

We’re hearing good names for next weekend: Khalid McGee, Thor Katoa, Lopini Katoa, Keivonnis Davis, Noah Togiai, Mufi Hunt, James Empey, and Tuli Wily-Matagi. There seem to be a lot of unknowns in the mix, too. Andersen might pull a better recruiting class than Riley, and in 3 weeks…but remember: you can’t recruit to Corvallis.

    • Simmons looks good on tape.
Andersen is recruiting an entirely different kind of athlete. I’ll have to make a post about it soon. It’s interesting. But in short, Andersen’s targets all look the part and play aggressive. With Riley’s “under the radar guys”, they mostly looked like lackadaisical scout team projects who would never see the field. They all had an obvious deficiency where you wondered if they were even Pac-12 material.

      • Irvine is definitely more fluid.. I suspect he will be good in coverage early on. Some of the throws on Dcoud’s tape were so awful its hard to fully judge his coverage skills.. Good Grief some of those QB’s must have lied to their JC coaches about where they played in HS

        • Irvine is ripped, lean, and fluid. Very good technique for a HS player.
At 2 stars I said he should have been at least a 3. Rivals finally caught up and changed him. Not sure he shouldn’t be higher. I’d rank him 3.5 with upside even from there.

  1. Yesterday (day before?) Taylor tweeted out that he thinks OSU coaches need to offer his buddy Corey Glass next.

Today, Irvine tweets out “Corey Glass next commit”. Not sure if this is done already or not. He’s an unrated SS/OLB who lives in Jacksonville (happens to be where GA and crew are conducting visits today). Has offers from Wake Forrest, Purdue, South Florida and Temple.

  2. I forgot to mention, Bruce Read was in Portland this weekend recruiting Cameron Scarlett and Blake Brandel…thus further solidifying those two committments.

  3. If you haven’t seen it, check out Parker/Baldwin interview series, exciting to hear brief previews of the offense that is coming to OSU.

Just listening to Sitake now, not as impressive.

  4. It looks like GA is more like Urban Meyer in recruiting in that he does not seem to care if he pisses off other coaches. Big change from the hip, hip days. I will be disappointed if he does not poach a Fadger commit. That would be a win, win for me.

  5. So if anyone can help me find a wordpress plugin that would allow us to have real time tweets with recruiting news at the top of the page…I’ve been looking and can’t find anything quite right. Hey Keith Kostol et al nerds, do you want to develop something? Just need a small box (that’s what he said) with updates at the top of the page that feed through in real time, or that users can post updates they find into the box. It would be better than searching the comments for that type of news.

      • I’ll have to do it a little later today. need to set up a dummy email account for it too. In the meantime, anybody have suggestions for a twitter handle you’d like? Was thinking something like @PlayUrBallsOff (15 character limit, otherwise i would have used PlayYourBallsOff)

        • How about something relevent, like beaversrecruiting? Then you can use that hashtag and get many followers, etc. You could give other users here the password to the account so they can login and update if they find news first.

        • OSU Recruiting, Beav Recruiting, etc. Make it something like that nice and simple. I don’t want junk on my front page or a name that will make me cringe. Even “beav blazer” would be a good name. Just no junk.

One thing I dislike about this widget is that if someone tweets info at you it doesn’t post live. You’d have to retweet it. Kind of lame. But overall it’s good.

I think you should give the password to anyone else here who follows recruiting. They can update things in real time, too. The more working it the better. With this type of system, I think we can do just as well as paid sites. All the info is out there. We can even post rumors.

        • Would it be easier to use my account and just give the people who want to post updates the password? Then we keep continuity and could grow readership of this site.

I’m just trying to think if that would present any security problems.

  6. So the Beavs men’s soccer team gets another player drafted. Will Seymore in the 3rd round.

My question, how fucking long is the MLS draft? Wasnt the first round about this time last week? And today theyre only in the 3 rd round? NBA draft format is so much better.

  7. First just wanted to say it’s refreshing to know there are some fellow like minded people out there who love the beavs!
Anyways enough of the lovey dovey crap… I see GA is recruiting a lot of safeties and corners… Do you think we may be implementing something similar to what TCU does? I think the 4-2-5 defense is the future as far as defending the spread

    • I think you definitely need to be able to play something like that at times at least and I think we are really, really shallow with the kinds of guys Sitake wants on the field (big, strong, fast). Perfect storm to make for a heavy recruiting cycle of DB prospects.

      • That’s good to hear… I think this staff is ahead of the curve… The personel should always dictate what scheme we run not the other way around…. I am excited about this staff!
