7pm Friday on Pac-12. This will be another loss, obviously. So 14-7 headed home. I only see a max of 5 wins left on the schedule, so to me it’s looking like NIT unless they win the Pac tourney.
I know some people want to talk football recruiting. You can do that here while we wait for the game. Agree with all of you saying the class is disappointing (i.e. thought Andersen would be able to pull off magic) , but there are some good players and next year it should be much better. It’s hard to accept this is the class, though, after so much energy a few weeks ago.
The thing that has me concerned is how adamant Andersen was in interviews about how he’d take his staff over any other staff in the country, when it comes to closing, in recruiting. They were able to close the deal with Bobby D, but that’s about it so far. So far, the other teams have been closing better for the most part. We’re bound to have a class of less than 15 guys, and most will be guys that weren’t even their top targets. Sure, a lot could happen in a week, but things could get even worse in a week too.
We’re at 20 now… aren’t we?
What do you want him to say about his guys? “Meh, I’d take those other guys, but it is what it is”?
You mean… an overwhelming Riley class?
I think we need to be careful with Andersen. He seems like a great salesmen. Always says the right thing. Not sure I can trust him.
If you look at Utah State, Wisconsin, or Utah you’ll see they haven’t been amazing recruiters in terms of rankings… Not sure where that idea really came from. I think our new coaches were instrumental in bringing in the guys those schools did get though.
I’ll wait until it’s all official, but clearly this class will be a disappointment if it stays as small as it is now…
Always says the right thing… can’t trust that… wut?
Does that make sense to you? Because I certainly have a harder time trusting people who say the wrong things.
?
it’s pretty hard to build relationships with these recruits in a short period of time. I’ll wait until LOI’s are signed before I get excited or disappointed. Might just be a few surprises in store.
I was hoping for a larger recruiting carryover from the respective teams they left. Can’t fully judge them based on this year because they really had an inadequate amount of time to get organized and hit the trail. Next year they will have better results when they have time to evaluate players who are not already committed to another team. They have been successful in lesser venues and expect them to carry that on with Oregon State. If Washington State can pull it off, we sure in the hell should be able to. These are good charismatic coaches with good connections.
Can’t say I’m too worried about recruiting. They were put in a tight spot, and as great as Andersen is, Oregon State doesn’t have a great reputation…yet.
If he can rack up wins next season though, I think recruiting will pick up more. For now, I’m satisfied.
Besides, nothing is set in stone until LOI day.
I’m buying UA at -17.
No o/u yet, but if it’s less than 140 I’m buying the over.
Don’t really care about recruiting this cycle. They’ve had no time and whatever we get is a bonus. If you look at the numbers, GA’s best class is 30 coming off of a rose bowl, so I’m not expecting a slew 4 and 5 stars to ditch the schools they committed to this late in the game.
My excitement is at the prospect of having a team where players r playing they’re best position, the best player is the starter regardless of expierence, schemes adjusted to talent, and disciplined players who cut out procedure penalties. This team has talent. Do those things wins will come, then the recruits.
Hey!
Didn’t ESPN just post an article that said our WRs must improve?
*giggle*
That’s some funny stuff.
Laughable. Potentially one of the strongest position groups in the PAC 12
I guess they can’t criticize the defense because it’s gone…..along with the coordinator, so they pick on what might be the strongest unit? Makes sense.
I think Mullaney will have a “comeback player” type season…be interesting to see what Hill brings, plus the obvious talent of Villamin, Jarmon.
So looking forward to 4 & 5 WR sets with this group…
I look forward to seeing Guyton play. Can you imagine a receiver corps with Villamin and Guyton on the outside and Hunter and varying TEs and APBs in the slots?
Gilmore was also still just a Sophomore last year as well. Bolden for all the critiques (drops, going down easily) was the primary target as a true soph and still found a way to consistently get open and made some very difficult catches. With that famous Cooks work ethic, I wouldn’t count him out.
This group is so young. People forget who had a lot of really bad drops their sophomore year. A guy named Markus Wheaton. Had some of the worst, wide open, touchdown drops I’ve ever seen. Hands turned into stickem between Soph and Jr year. They don’t all turn out like Boom.
Jarmon and Villamin will be the primary WRs. Mullaney will be the possession WR/slot.
Jack is right on with Guyton, too. He is a future stud. Maybe next year since Andersen isn’t afraid to play the best talent. That would allow Jarmon to move to slot and Mullaney to be a 4th WR
Anyone hear the story about an OSU student masturbating in the library and uploading it to pornhub?
http://www.kezi.com/former-osu-student-cited-for-porn-video/
It’s tame.
really?
If she were a dude, it’d be straight to a jail cell and the sex offender registry. Just sayin’.
I’m not sure anyone would have paid attention.
Mark Rosenquist dt Butte College via Stockholm could play for Beavers now. He is a 6’3″ x300lb nose tackle that is quicker than most of the other big lugs now on the team.
That’s neat.
dude, i have to add “-library -blonde -busty” to all of my searches while at work to avoid having pics of that skank pop up on my work computer. searching for Oregon state stuff can get me fired if I’m not careful.
-library was all I needed to flush the garbage.
You put too much effort into it.
tried that and it burned me
Huh?
I set the twit to exclude the word library. One shit tweet came through over seven hours. And it did have the word “library” in it. I complained about that.
fargin lies
lol! I downloaded that movie last night and watched it. I forgot how corny it was
The Recruiting has been a major bummer. I am not really excited about the class, and I had high hopes. I am a little surprised that some recruits bailed, but I really think its because the staff told they didn’t want them in not so many words. I agree with others I thought we would have seen more flips.
The reality is they didn’t have enough time to get together, unfortunately Riley had about the same amount of time and did better. But other schools going through the same thing (coaching changes) are doing about what we are.
I suspect that we could see some transfers and late additions once Letter of Intent Day is over.
I think the staff wants their guys and is not so concerned with this years numbers. They have been offering what seems like a ton of 2016/17 kids. So they are laying the ground work for the future.
So I am giving them a pass, but I am disappointed in the class as well.
blah blah blah?
Have you said anything original? Or could you just say you agree with another post?
Sorry… got halfway through your post on that one.
If we do succeed, then yes… this disappointment that I feel right now will turn into un-disappointment.
Un-disappointment rules!!!!
I think I should copyright that phrase. Instead, I will just let you all think about it in the future and remember this is the first place you saw it.
Un-disappointment.
I wouldn’t be surprised if his job hopping isn’t a liability right now, either from competing coaches or thoughtful parents; 3rd job in 3 years? Two-season stops at last two jobs?
The class will be better next year. If he stays 4+ years – i.e. this REALLY is the place for him – he will probably do very good.
I don’t think there is anything to worry about yet. The coaching will be a huge improvement, competitive and entertaining.
As it stands right now this is worst class since Pettibone days. Very disappointing, hope he is a coaching wizard or we are headed back to some dark days. Two below average classes at Wisconsin and a face plant here unless something changes. Getting a few top notch JC players that can’t get in anyway else might work at Utah State, but not at a power five school. Not impressed with this hire at all so far. Hope the product is MUCH better on field than it reads on paper and looks on film.
So… a three week recruiting class… warrants… what… awesomeness…
… worse… a three week reward-wanter.
Ted appears to be a somewhat able Wiscy troll.
Hey Ted… at least we don’t pretend to have a hockey team.
Oh my god… All this bitching is annoying… Idk 15 3* recruits seems pretty good to me with a total staff turnover…. What you’d expect 20 ESPN top 300
Recruits? Not understanding the negativity at all
It’s like talking five year old’s out of wanting cookies.
That’s easy. Offer ice cream.
brilliant
With “genuine” 3* you can win with good coaching. Nothing wrong with 3* across the board. I think if you can do 3*+ at both lines and CB you have a great chance to win. With good schemes and coaching…
Shhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is no place for logic.
I agree… People shouldn’t be expecting us to be good overnight… Our current personel isn’t built for GA’s new system… It’ll probably three years before we see the results… I know we all want to win right away but if you look at Utah State with GA it wasn’t till year 3 that he really started getting it going
In 2016 pac opponents will be concerned about OSU;l, at least from an offensive standpoint. And likely defensive blitzing sack/tfl standpoint.
Next year, they’ll be unsure what to expect, and an inexperienced QB will be compensated for by scheme, play calling, and pace. If opponents are not careful/sound, they’ll pay for it.
I sure hope so… By no means do I think they will be non competitive I just don’t want to get my hopes up… I bet we beat the 5-7 mark next year but that won’t be a successful season in my mind… I imagine we’ll be a ranked team come 2017… That’s if I’ve judged GA correctly… I honestly believe he’s legit
He’s legit. He’d benefit from sticking around in my opinion; build trust, increase recruit quality. Lately he’s been a wanderer recently, and that – combined with the short window – has to factor for “flips” and high quality recruits. But his coaching acumen is I think trustworthy.
What I would love to see is the quick strike, hit first, we-believe-we-can-win mentality of the Utah team that beat Alabama in the sugar bowl. That’s the kind of player ability/coaching intersection OSU needs to strike to get beyond the Alamo bowl/Sun Bowl standard. GA was a D coordinator for that team, and I think he can instill that attitude and successful implementation in the Beavers and I think he/OSU/Corvallis can recruit the necessary talent to make that happen.
Im with you on this one. I think we will be fine with the class that we get even if it isnt “impressive” on paper. OSU’s biggest improvement on the field will be from a change in coaching philosophy and emphasis on intensity. Riley didnt give a shit about football in the end IMO, he was happy being the father figure nice guy and staying loyal to his coaching staff.
Ucla up double digits on Utah with 6 min left
UCLA wins 69-59
Woo hoo!!!!
UCLA beat a top 25 team this year!!!!
Sign them up for the Final Four!!!!
Woo hoo!!!
It’s interesting you say that because the ESPN article on the game said something to the effect that this win keeps them in the NCAA tourney picture. Really?
Just a side note for you Debbie downers, this weekends super bowl will feature 20
Starters who were rated 2*’s or lower… And not even one of the starters was a 5* coming out of high school… Commence with the bitching
Who are you talking to?
–or–
Do you know who you’re talking to?
Some of us know both math and sports… and have a memory beyond yesterday.
I am talking to all these people on here bithching about how GA’s class is so underwhelming… Honestly it annoys me… I know there are some people who actually know what’s up.. I guess I am a trolls dream
A troll’s dream wouldn’t give up so easily.
And don’t think it was towards you… I’ve seen your posts Jack you’re legit… Your probably right a bunch of Wiscy trolls signed up.
Good point too lol… I’ve learned there is no use arguing with some people… Just a waste of bandwidth
Jack IS a bunch of Wiscy trolls….! All rolled into Jack.
Jack is a troll, so to speak. Don’t you see? He lays stuff out there to ignite the senses and get everyone involved….very admirable, I say.
dammit
Sorry
So Andersen couldn’t recruit 4*s+ to Seattle and NE?!? WTF?!? What is his problem?
We all know there’s more than just stars. there’s the “prima donna” factor that can detract from teamwork, individual development – physically and mentally, team chemistry, scheme and coaching, injuries…
Another reason I think 3*s are good if in the right places.
And really, watch Blue Mountain State and have a laugh about all of this bullshit…college football isn’t that important and it becomes less so every year. The more exposure and production takes precedence over competition, the more the game suffers.
Agreed with all except there are highly rated kids who can be and are positive influences on teams and communities around them. We are where they get the sense of being more than that. Our coaches are who ground them.
Another side note Walton has to be the worst announcer I’ve heard in a while! What an idiot!
Listening to him argue with the announcer over the patriots and deflated footballs was irritating. You could tell that the announcer just wanted to bitch slap Walton. I could just see these announcers checking their assignments and seeing Waltons name as color commentary and letting out a selective “fuck”. I’d rather have my balls waxed than have to sit there and listen to him for 2 hours
No doubt lol! I am all for legalizing marijuana but when you listen to Walton it makes you rethink that opinion lol
Uh oh…
Idk… he might make sense if I was high.
Yeah, he got rid of his twisted tongue and moved to to his brain….
…or something
Aaaaand… guess who will call tonight’s game.
So besides it being a potentially bad game with likely poor officiating… I’ll have to turn the sound off as well.
I liked him better when he stutter-er-er-ttt-ered
Buffs needed 3 OT’s to beat USC at the Galen Center 98-94. Winning on the road in the Pac-12 is tough. Even Utah found out tonight. Currently Cal leads Wazzu by 3 on the road in Pullman
Cal wins in Pullman 76-67
Also of note only TWO teams in the Pac-12 have a winning record on the road. Arizona (4-2) and Stanford (4-3). Even mighty 11th ranked Utah doesn’t have a winning road record (2-3). Point being winning on the road is tough in conference. Win your home games and any they manage to steal on the road is gravy at this point.
Amen to that brother!
Way off topic, but irritating that punk Blount once again factors into a big game despite his behavior…Go Hawks!
Recruiting issues? Euphoria to despair in a matter of weeks? bump your meds, guys.
Let the poor man ESTABLISH HIS IDENTITY!
Today on Cornhusker Comedy Corner:
Rile E. “endears” himself with Husker fans by interrupting dinner time with robo-calls!
http://huskermike.blogspot.com/2015/01/nobody-likes-robocalls-so-why-did-mike.html?m=1
Robo-calls are so last decade! So in other words, Riley’s modernized himself since moving :-D
Is Christian Folau a mission guy?
Good looking LB
Yeah, which is why Oregon backed off on him. He would be one of the top guys in this class for OSU. Sounds like he might have a chip on his shoulder since he felt like Oregon brushed him off. Good to hear Beavs are in the lead on this one
That’s what I thought. I’m not too interested in mission guys. He’d be a top guy otherwise, yes…great looking lb prospect. If he goes on mission we may never see him gear up. This is a good article on missions
http://byu.scout.com/story/386324-the-myth-of-the-byu-missionary-advantage
Bronco realizes if they leave right away there is a much lower chance they ever play. Now wants them to delay mission. Smart.
http://www.sltrib.com/sports/1873065-155/byu-football-bronco-wants-prospective-missionaries
So Folau is visiting and has OSU as a slight edge over Utah….he really wanted UO, but said in portland’s favorite catbox liner that it felt like he was recruiting them more than they were recruiting him…ironically, academics and campus environment are important to him, and UO was his lead?
I think Andersen should have no trouble getting his verbal after he has him on campus.
But if he’s going to go on a mission right away, then what’s the point really?
Yeah, I started to post that, and before submitting it, walked away from my computer for several minutes, came back, and Angry and beavblazer pointed that out…
I’m not crazy about these mission kids. Nothing against their beliefs, I guess it just takes different management of your recruiting numbers. But if they commit, go on a mission, the next year they can commit elsewhere, correct? No?
Seems like if you don’t even count the risk of them not coming back from a mission, or in reopening their recruitment if they can, you have the opportunity cost of investing time in recruiting them that could have gone to other kids that will be on campus.
Wayne Tinkle has had a good week, aside from OSU mbb. His daughter, Elle, is WCC Player of the Week
and Tres now holds the Hellgate HS, Missoula, scoring record.
Under achievers all…sheesh.
I think that’s part of the reason Tinkle does the OS/DS motto, he knows he’s a winner, and if you put down the employer and community he chose, your implicitly putting down him by association. And he won’t have that because he knows he’s a winner, and he’s here to make OSU basketball a winner. Again.
Beavs have offered another 2016 QB prospect. Listed as a dual threat QB, but looks more like he’s a runner and not much of a thrower from the limited tape I can find. Another Seth Collins type, but not as tall. Looks like a good athlete, but maybe not so much as a QB.
http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Tristen-Wallace-153257
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtak-kBhjzE
Nice offer list. Surprised to see Nebraska offered…is that pre-Riley? Doesn’t look like Riley’s invited Pensyl to join him in Nebraska…
Looks like he was offered by former Nebraska OC/QB coach Tim Beck, now at Ohio State. That was his first offer.
He committed to TTU as an athlete.
He was recruited by Kliff Kingsbury (HC/OC/QBs) and Eric Morris (OC/WRs) so it could be that he’ll be a WR or QB. TTU is a pass heavy offense so I’d lean towards WR since he seems underdeveloped as a passer.
You don’t have to be a great passer as QB in most contemporary college offenses which is what we’ll be running now.
Forgive me for this, but the Ducks were a primarily rushing team until Chip left. Masoli/Thomas never struck me as great passers and they had success. Even Mariota gets knocked by NFL scouts because his throws are often to wide open receivers or WR screens with big YAC.
Except for the headline, this is a good little piece.

RE: @BeavRecruiting
FYI-Angry and Beaverkman, I’ll be offline most of the weekend, starting at about noon today. I won’t be able to keep up with the recruiting weekend tweets, so hopefully one or both of you will be around to keep it running
Has GA retained Evan “Big Cat” Bany?
Started following this guy a few days ago after noticing Derrick Yray had him on his radar and he tweeted about interest in OSU. Now he’s reaching out to Mama, so must mean there’s a little smoke here. Juco Safety Jonathan Hagler
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4215066/highlights/210151380
Steven Thompson Jr highlights from the Take Flight Challenge (bizarre looking venue)
Looks like he has good defensive instincts to go with nice offensive game.
http://scouthoops.scout.com/story/1505397-highlights-stephen-thompson-jr
eww quack overtime, get if off my screen, make it stop!
Asiago!!!! They added a new little caveat on to the end of the commercial now
Win or lose, we sure make the mildcats look unimpressive
This offense is a dumpster fire
Just not much motion to the offense. I don’t like talking the clock down to 5 and letting Malcolm go one on one as a long term strategy. Can’t they run some screen for Olaf?
I like the slow the game down strategy. But I hear ya for sure.
Olaf and LMW are completely invisible again. OSU might not break 40 points tonight
LMW has become a head case on the road.
As long as UA doesnt break 39 its all goo
Very careless with the ball. Give AZ credit they have given us nothing.
God I hate Bill Walton
I’ve always loved Bill’s broadcasting style but easy to see why a lot dislike him
He’s just entertaining. I think he’s pretty funny and knows what he’s talking about. He can be an acquired taste but I’ve always enjoyed his work
Eh, he’s entertaining if maybe you drank a few gallons of antifreeze and your brain had turned into mush. Then I could see it
If given the choice of listening to bill Walton or slamming my junk in a car door, I’d seriously consider the latter. Right now my tv is muted
It’s probably hard to slam your junk in a car door and your sister at the same time.
it’s impossible when it’s inside your wife
Is it wrong to wish he gets throat cancer?
I don’t think so. Kinda like how it’s ok to hope that Karl Malone dies because he’s a piece of shit that refuses to sign 12 year old CraigBeav’s basketball card. Fuck Karl Malone.
maybe your mailbox is too low?
Bill Walton, shut the f up! Looks CR’s offense.
Wtf
Duvivier has fumbled away 3 potential layups. He does not have very good hands
With all the stops they just had, the Beavs should be tied if they could score.
The person who corrected Walton’s stuttering problem should be charged with crimes against humanity.
Az all fired up cause they just scored 6points in last minute. First 5min of this half they were scoreless.
For as bad as this is, the beavs actually could win.
AZ should be worried about how they look.
The men in stripes will not allow that to happen
Thats how Ive been seeing it too
Not anymore.
Did Bill Walton just whisper “how quiet it is” at me? I feel like I just got raped a little bit.
now you know how my sister feels
Ahahahahahaha
N’Diaye has done some good things tonight. Hopefully he can get some consistent minutes the rest of the season. He’s gonna be pretty solid off the bench next season
Why can’t they penetrate? Is AZ that good?
Tough to win when Arizona has only been whistled for 9 fouls and the Beavs have shot four fucking free throws.
I wound up watching slap shot due to the clip you posted. Forgot about the game. That was a great movie.
I’m gonna wiggle my dick at em
You aren’t missing anything
and yes that is a great movie. Own it on DVD. When you posted that you were waving at Mamma Machado for some reason that “wiggle my dick at em” fashion show from that movie popped in my head lol. I should prolly be living in Salem with padded walls for that
Very true, I noticed az gets all the calls.
This road trip can’t end soon enough.
With Robbins out, the Beavers have maybe 2 guys who can get into the paint and 1 who can finish even remotely consistently. Beavers love to ISO Robbins at the elbow and he’s gotten better at driving and finishing. With him out the Beavers have to rely on GP and Olaf having big games to have a chance. If one plays poorly they’re toast. LMW has done nothing since the UCLA game. Turnover machine and his shots aren’t even close. Thankfully the team is heading home and playing the Washington schools to bounce back
To the Tea Party Beav fans: Yeah we got rid of Riley and won the Day! 93 and counting we did it! Angry was right if we got rid of Riley we would dominate recruiting and win football games.
Dood! You need to try a little harder. You’re sounding dumber than a Duck. And that’s not easy.
Tell me, how many football games have we lost since the losingest coach in OSU history tucked tail and ran?
We didn’t do shit, Theodore. Riley did it to himself. Angry, et al….just helped point it out to those with blinders on.
looking at the box score after watching this game just reaffirms how I felt going in. Tough to win when playing 5 on 8. When you try to take the ball to the basket and are getting constantly mugged, well it’s difficult to shoot better than 30%. I understand the beavs play a slow it down offenense to minimize opponents possessions. I get that. As many times as OSU attacked the rim………………..
Total fouls: OSU 19, UA 11
Free throws: OSU 3 of 5, UA 13 of 16
Turnovers: OSU 19, UA 16
Rebounds: OSU 27, UA 37
How many times was a Beav mugged, pushed in the back, or someone (Brandon Ashley) climbed over their back on a rebound?
How many times did UA attack the basket and get an “and 1” compared to OSU?
So you’re gonna tell me that on average the Wildcats committed a personal foul roughly once every FOUR MINUTES? I get that the beavers can be limited offensively and accept that. However, this game wasn’t even a fair fight from what I witnessed. If it was called evenly, do the beavs win? Probably not, but at least they would have been in the game and had a fighting chance (they wouldn’t have been blown out by 23 and scored 34 total points). Pretty fucking hard to do that when the refs swallow their whistle when you attack the basket but do the opposite when your opponent does the same. It’s no fucking wonder no one besides Arizona has won in Tucson in 2 years.
I couldn’t watch all of the game the officiating was so bad. They were showing replays of how great McConnell was on defense and on one of his steals you could clearly see him rake the Beav across the forearm to knock the ball loose. Walton even went silent for a brief second.
Also, is “over the back” even a foul when Arizona plays? I guess before the game the opponents should be informed that Arizona will be jumping into backs to get offensive rebounds and this will be ok because of how great of athletes they are.
Look, I don’t pretend that the Beavs win this game, but I am just so fucking sick of Arizona basketball and Sean MIller’s fat puffy face. It’s a bitter pill because I thought the O’Neill debacle and Lute’s “will I stay or will I go” act would end their dominance and it didn’t.
I really didn’t think the Beavers were screwed a whole lot by the officials. Arizona played great defense. The game was just a case to me of one team having more skill and talent. Arizona moved their feet on defense and made the Beavers try as drive past them and finish and they couldn’t. Didn’t think officiating was much of an issue. Beavers were just dominated. It would have been closer if guys like LMW could hit perimeter shots but when they can’t hit outside shots they aren’t gonna compete with Arizona on the road for longer than a half
It also sucks that the Quacks got ASU on the road. The Beavs should have been more competitive agains them in Tempe. I really would like to see the Beavs finish higher than the Ducks this year and it’s still possible if WT can get them focused at home.
34 points! I don’t care how much of a talent gap we have, 34 points is embarrassing and unacceptable. This is certainly a red flag.
