Don’t get why in a 2-1 ballgame and a guy on 3rd with 1 out in the 7th inning why you wouldn’t bunt in the run that gives an ace like Moore a very good chance to finish out the win. Bunt has 90% odds of success snd Moore then has almost 80% chance to win.
Instead we strand another player on 3rd. This is my only criticism og Casey. The situation calls for the sssurance run bring given high priority. Other games with lesser pitchers and perhaps an inning earlier it makes more sense to try to string together a couple hits.
Cal might get 3 McDonald’s All Americans. Bears would be a problem next year if it ends up happening (which I doubt). I think they get 1 and this whole package thing falls through.
They capitalized in the 9th in similar situation. Showed willingness to bunt but ultimately used a somewhat deep hit to the outfield which is as effective and sometimes easier.
Finish them off and this is a quality win. First Bruin walked though in bottom of 9th.
Question: Any idea what – in the view that shows the wall – there is something white – it almost looks like a ball – not suggesting it is – but I’m curious as to what it is.
Big series opening road win. Same thing happened against ASU and we know how that series went. Glad to see Heimlich stay in after giving up the two out run scoring single to fan the guy looking to end it. Good job tonight boys! Bruins had won 8 in a row.
“We had such a great, simple, easy life that we were so much into a routine”
Match that with Banker’s admission that they got into a rut and it’s clear they’d mailed it in. How many D1 college football coaches would call their life “simple” and “easy”, much less successful ones?
Basically they’ve admitted they were stealing a paycheck from OSU. Nebraska fans are hardcore. They won’t put up with the same shit we’ve seen for several years. They’ll turn on them as soon as they start losing to teams they aren’t supposed to. Or just ONE FCS loss. Good luck with that mediocre mike and the stooge crew. Oh, and good fucking riddance. Oregon St is better off without you. Enjoy Lincoln!
i just listened to the interview, he almost sounds like someone who has won the lottery and just doesn’t give a fuck anymore. He seems very casual about the whole thing, almost like “I’m finally getting the big money I deserve, if it only last three years, then I retire happy with a lot of money (and I also took care of all my buddies).
I just listened too. Thanks for finding this, Scotty. I agree with mckalk, Riley comes across early in the interview as almost manic in his enthusiasm (harkening back to Angry’s “is Mike Riley depressed?” thesis). In addition to the comfort zone comments Scotty first picked up on, he also referred to his old style as being stuck in a “box.” What I found most astounding though were his comments about how the fans in Lincoln “love this place” with the obvious implication that they love it more than OSU fans love theirs. This is a version, I think, of Lindsay’s ragging on the school and the town. I now think that maybe Riley was the one feeding that stuff to her. He says he understands the “expectations” game about Nebraska’s place in the “national picture.” We’ll see about that. Lastly, he stipulated that the biggest talent step up between Lincoln and Corvallis was o-line depth, “a new thing for us,” he said. Every sensible figure on this site for the last half decade has been pointing out those deficiencies, too bad Riley had to move a thousand miles away before he and Cav did anything about it. So happy he’s gone.
After his opening remarks, the one guy basically gave him a pep talk, like “buck up, pal.”
I actually thought he may do alright in Nebraska with more talent, an easier division, and the pressure causing him to apply himself. After listening to the interview, I now think it could get ugly, fast.
It’s sad and funny….Riley says he gets the expectations at Nebraska, but I don’t think he really does. If they lose to BYU and Miami and go 2-2 in non-conf, I wonder what the fanbase will think? I think “shitstorm” will be a new phrase that the coaching staff at NU should starting getting familiar with!
Juxtapose a very dedicated fan base with the same people being the nicest on the face of the Earth, and the nicest college coach who can’t get it done anymore – it just sounds weird. Like a couple of Mormons cussing at each other weird.
You’re going to have to define “nicest” in this story. I know what you mean. And I contend that idea… just as I contend the idea that the South is just full of polite, respectful youngsters just because they say sir and ma’am.
Friendly. At least as long as you are a white Christian, which I’m guessing Riley is. If you’re not, it’s probably more or a roll of the dice, depending on the Nebraskan. Though, I would give Nebraskans more credit in this regard than Southerners. Southern hospitality is often a facade.
Moore deserved a break and he got one as the Beavs get 3 unearned runs. And it’s not the first run saving catch Nobach has made this season. Casey and Yeskie showed a lot of confidence in Heimlich letting him finish the game.
Do we know if the new staff is in on this idea? They certainly like gathering players who have learned to tackle this way if only because they grew up playing rugby.
I listened to Bob DeCarolis on John Canzano’s show, he says fundraising for the new football locker room is getting close to their goal of $42 million. In December, it was at $25 million, currently at $34 million with $5 million more basically agreed to but not taken in yet. Pretty good news, hopefully they exceed the goal and add some more features.
Beavs had runners on 2nd and 1st with no outs. Showed bunt for one throw then abandoned it and scored nothing.
Get the bunt down and players to 3rd and 2nd with 1 out and you have to mess up to not get atleast a run. Against a team like UCLA I still want more well executed small ball from Casey.
Get the lead and get into the Bruins’ heads they are losing this series in 2 games. Runs are at a premium and despite being in very good position for high odds of scoring we are making choices to often for my tastes that prevent runs. Get the lead first and go for the bigger inning after that if you feel it.
However I think you just look for 3 or 4 runs to win in a game 2 against the Bruins.
I’m looking at some of the top 25 teams on D-1 Baseball, it’s ridiculous that the Beavs aren’t in the that group. I don’t care if Cal Poly won a series.
Tackling by Pete Carroll as learned from Jesus “Magilla Gorilla” Payan circa 1968-69. Jess also helped introduce Nutrition and Circuit Weight Training to Northern California high school football in the mid 60’s.
Didn’t like pulling Rasmussen for Fox yet. Beavers off their better game tonight. Not enough pitching domination on this team as in some past years. Only one true ace in Moore in my mind despite the Perfect Game thrown earlier in the season. This team is around #20-27 in the country right now in my book. Good games and then a few too many average efforts thrown in. Team will continue to claw but it they have work to do if they want to be Top 20 by the end of the regular season.
You get that inconsistency when you have a young team. A little more Senior leadership would have helped. I enjoy watching this team when they are clicking, they have a bunch of talent but they are young. They might just be to young to realize just how good they can be.
Morrison you got to go on that, make them make a good throw to beat you. They batched the relay, he would have scored easily. Looked like Jenkins was waving him home.
King hits one to the gap but lifted a bit too much and its run down by the center fielder. 4-1 Bruins. And Beavs don’t get it done with their best chance of the night
Is it just me or does it seem the last few years that the beavs are above average at pitching (minus bullpen issues the last few years) but the hitting is below average? What happened to the PC small ball. Get em on, get em over and get em in? Or am I on crack? Is the departure of Dan Spencer and the hiring of Nate Yeskie holding this program back? Who exactly is the hitting coach?
duckies lose to Meechicken St 2-1 in 11 innings. They are seriously floundering right now. No matter what happens tomorrow I like the beavs chances for a series win in Eugene next weekend
I know in the end it doesn’t mean much, but I still think it’s crazy the Beavs are not ranked. How in the hell do you have 20 plus wins and be above .500 in the P-12 and not be ranked? Is there some backlash against the program? Have you seen some of the shit programs that are ranked currently?
Lack of true quality series wins. Blew the ASU series and then played horrible in the Cal Poly series. I don’t have an issue with them not being ranked. They haven’t been playing good baseball. A win today and they’ll be ranked though.
I can’t stand the uckies, but I do want them to win reg season non-conf, since we have to play them 5 times and all. Don’t want their sucky rpi rubbing off on us ya know.
I watched part of the football practice at Reser today. None of the three QBs (Del Rio, Mitchell, Collins) looked good — each was guilty of some very bad throws and plays. Each also seemed to have trouble getting the signals from the sideline and running plays in a timely fashion. I spoke after practice with a former Beaver player and current HS coach who saw the whole practice and confirmed that it was indeed ugly out there today, especially for the offense. Still two weeks to go until the Spring Game, but lots of work to do. I’m guessing Gary Andersen is not going to be very cheerful in the post-practice interviews….
When people asked you to actually form complete sentences in the previous thread, I think they meant for you to not just plug your jumbles into some Mad Libs.
Although, it does make for some really funny stuff… not that an Ãœbermensch like you would understand. Trust me. It is absolutely over the top. And I applaud the scatterbrained method you employ. I try to do so now and again, and it never seems to make any sense to anyone else.
Another PAC12 Network fail! Ucks softball on both the network channel AND the Oregon channel. Anyone able to get the game on PAC12/bonus as advised on the softballl crawl?
Cary gets the start today and looks to be coming up with a man on in the t2.
Bad hop there but King needs to smother that ball. He hasn’t looked good in the field or on the base paths. Now Harrison with a passed ball. Team just doesn’t look very competitive. Very few at-bats that are resulting in hard hit balls, bad baserunning. Not a fun team to watch right now
Bottom of the order coming through for UCLA. Yeskie out. Runner scores from first on a double whereas last night Morrison didn’t. UCLA playing better baseball.
Morrison with a poor throw to first, for 2-3 weeks his throws have been sub-par….all right after Jim Wilson remarked that you NEVER have to worry about his throws. Hexed?
Clark up with two on. Good rip at the first pitch but fouls it off. Then squares to bunt. Clark bloops one off the hands and sacks juiced with nobody out.
Can’t fault Morrison for holding up between 2 and 3, BUT I really didn’t like the way he overslid/jumped off the bag going into 2nd. Could have been big trouble.
Beavers looked a little lifeless until that error. Suddenly some confidence returned and the guys look completely different and the dugout is chirping a bit. First time the offense has had an inning like this in a few weeks
I think it is fine to give Harrison some experience behind the plate, but not in such an important game. Non-con or less competitive conf. game makes more sense to me.
Sounds like the football team doesn’t have a QB who can throw.
Not sure why McMaryion isn’t getting looks considering the 3 guys they have now can’t hit the WRs by all accounts.
sucks we dont have a guy who can throw when we have such a solid group of receivers. I’m planning on attending the Spring game and was hoping to see what this new offense can do.
1-2 pitch to the Leadoff batter and Heimlich plunks him. Bruins try to sac bunt even with 2 strikes. Batter gets it down. Looked like Heimlich had a play at 2b but throws to 1b
Beavs losing this series. Some questionable decisions were just enough to let it slip away. Better get the series over the Quacks. Hope they come back but really doubt it.
51-49? More like 99-1. That was an absolute perfect pitch right at the knees (when it crossed the plate). Everyone, including the batter, knew it. Terrible job throwing that guy a curveball, though. He clearly couldn’t hit the fastball.
On Wisconsin. Badgers take down mighty Kentucky. Beavergopher is in his own personal hell tonight. I hope they win it all. Can’t bring myself to root for Duke
Bo Ryan seems like a pretty decent guy. I’ve been rooting for Wisconsin all the way. I get bored with the same elite programs in the mix over and over.
He is a great coach but kind of an ass. The biggest whiner and complainer bar none in the B1G.
His nickname in the B1G is the “Grinch.” And yes, WSN, this is absolute hell. First the Ducks in the CFB game and now this. Although I’m glad UK did not win, the thought of the Fadgers winning the NCAA is enough to make me sick. I will hold my nose and hope for Duke to win, although Wisc. has the look of a championship team. Please let this nightmare end!
This sums up how Gopher fans feel about Bo:
? 0:29
As a wise man once said “Fuck Bo Ryan” – YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RrOBYpXZiA
I just cannot root for Duke and oh so precious Coach K and his bad dye job. In addition, he is the most boring host in the history of radio with his “Basketball and Beyond” bullshit which I attempted to listen to for about 5 minutes once.
What’s funny with Costas’ is that he keeps the gray sideburns which in his mind must legitimize the dye job. Travolta takes the cake, bad toupee with what looks like a bad dye job!
I like toupees. I think they usually look good, and plan to get one if I ever lose my hair (I still have a full head, thank god, but it’s like 60% greyed already, prematurely). What can you do?
rogaine liquid sucks and is greasy/messy. Foam is like using styling moose. Doubles as a styling product and has had good results for me. only problem is you’re married to it if you want it to keep working.
Go Beavs!
Go Beavs
Does this mean GA was not fired?
This is gonna be a tough series with the way UCLA is playing. If the beavs can get one I’d be happy
Also Stanford/Miami at 6pm in NIT championship on ESPN. Final hoops game of the season for the Pac-12
No thanks, not desperate
Yeah unless you went to Stanford or Miami that is unwatchable.
Stanford won 66-64 in OT. Miami had a chance at a game winning 3, wasn’t close. Stanford wins the NIT
beavs looking at strike 3 too many fucking times already (4). If the strike zone is wide, you gotta adjust
And Clark continues to be shit. Is there really no better option than him?
ESPN reporting Shaka Smart is headed to Austin to become head coach at Texas
Who cares?
people who watch a lot of college hoops?
that was some terrible defense
lot of patience at the plate, take 2-1 lead.
lead off double wasted with back to back K’s. 2-1 Beavs, 7th inning stretch. Anyone know what Moore’s pitch count is?
Don’t get why in a 2-1 ballgame and a guy on 3rd with 1 out in the 7th inning why you wouldn’t bunt in the run that gives an ace like Moore a very good chance to finish out the win. Bunt has 90% odds of success snd Moore then has almost 80% chance to win.
Instead we strand another player on 3rd. This is my only criticism og Casey. The situation calls for the sssurance run bring given high priority. Other games with lesser pitchers and perhaps an inning earlier it makes more sense to try to string together a couple hits.
Hope it doesn’t cost us this game and/or series.
Not sure about that. Imho a well-fielded bunt would make it easier to throw out the runner at home.
C’mon Heimlich don’t waste that great catch by Norbach and performance by Moore.
Beavs win 3-2. Assurance runs are big.
that catch

Thanks for posting. Game saving play.

Wow!

no joke

Shhh!!!
That’s not right (he said aloud, knowing it is correct).
Credit to beavblazer and ScottRueck (lol) for the heads up on the interview in the other thread :)
Moore deserved a break and he got one as the Beavs get 3 unearned runs. And it’s not the first run saving catch Nobach has made this season. Casey and Yeskie showed a lot of confidence in Heimlich letting him finish the game.
It was nice to see the pen hold it together for once. This team is just so young.
OT… someone brought this up last year when it was obvious our guys were being taught to flail… a lot.
http://coachingsearch.com/article?a=Pete-Carrolls-tackling-video-changed-everything-for-Ohio-State
Do we know if the new staff is in on this idea? They certainly like gathering players who have learned to tackle this way if only because they grew up playing rugby.
interesting. Hitting someone low (in the hips or legs), wrapping up and driving them backwards or into the ground is not a new technique
I listened to Bob DeCarolis on John Canzano’s show, he says fundraising for the new football locker room is getting close to their goal of $42 million. Wanna tackle the issue of why quacks winning the NC would’ve been in my best interest?
Anytime now…
Utah beat ASU 6-5. Down 2-0 need to rally here. But its looking like Ucla is in total control.
A whole bunch of bad fundamentals this evening. Looks like a sure loss.
Cougs in a position to take the series from cal, lead 4-0 in the 9th
This game is over. Oregon State’s offense hasn’t looked good for weeks and the bullpen will have to keep this close and that’s not gonna happen.
Drew giving up too many two strike hits. Up in the zone and UCLA hitters making him pay.
Clark has 2 of the Beavs 3 hits. Offense stinks.
Rasmussen gone after 5 and 2/3 with a runner at 2b. Fox in from the pen. 3-0 bad guys.
Didn’t like pulling Rasmussen for Fox yet. Beavers off their better game tonight. Not enough pitching domination on this team as in some past years. Now it’s over. 4-0 as Fox leaves it up over the plate and its smashed to left for a double.
Thanks Whiskey.
yup. this loss is on me. totally my fault. my bad
No!
I’m Spartacus!
Clark goes 3-3 after KJ fouls out.
Gabe Clark is 4 of 6 this series. Him and Morrison are really the only ones putting together good at-bats each time this series
Morrison you got to go on that, make them make a good throw to beat you. They batched the relay, he would have scored easily. Looked like Jenkins was waving him home.
Yeah he looked like he was waving him in early but the camera pulled away so you couldn’t tell whether he put the brakes on
Nobach doubles to put the Beavs on the board. Surprised Jenkins didn’t send Morrison. 2 RISP with two down and King to PH
King hits one to the gap but lifted a bit too much and its run down by the center fielder. 4-1 Bruins. And Beavs don’t get it done with their best chance of the night
Bruin pitcher strikes out the side in the 8th.
Rubber match tomorrow. Will need better defense and a good pitching performance. Winning the series is still very realistic.
Berg strikes out KJ then Clark. And Morrison caught looking. Berg strikes out the side so the Beavs end the game fanning 6 times in a row.
I know, hordes of questions
I’m not sure I’ve followed one of our games where the bullpen didn’t give up run(s)
duckies lose to Meechicken St 2-1 in 11 innings. They are seriously floundering right now. No matter what happens tomorrow I like the beavs chances for a series win in Eugene next weekend

I think it was fine to go for, #24 to unranked coming off of the CalPoly series. They should return to the rankings today, win or lose imo.
I can’t stand the uckies, but I do want them to win reg season non-conf, since we have to play them 5 times and all. Don’t want their sucky rpi rubbing off on us ya know.

Thanks for the report. How did the receivers look?
his exact sentiment per the write up on the boregonian website
I’m starting to wonder if these quarterbacks are going to be able to get the receivers the ball. I thought Del Rio had a decent arm?
he did. then Riley got a hold of him
They need to start testing all these kids for steroids. I’ve been saying this for years!
All these damn liberals want everyone getting a cheap participation trophy, not earning it like everyone else throughout history has had to do.
Until manor changes, our society will continue to get weaker and everyone will be on the government stamps!
Pussies!

Another PAC12 Network fail! Ucks softball on both the network channel AND the Oregon channel. Anyone able to get the game on PAC12/bonus as advised on the softballl crawl?
Cary gets the start today and looks to be coming up with a man on in the t2.
It’s on Pac-12 bonus
Bonus didn’t work for me.
Nor for me
I got it now, thanks LetsGo90, for the encouragement!
Apparently it’s Pac-12 bone us
As well as the Beavs are hitting, that could be the ball game right there.
Bad hop there but King needs to smother that ball. He hasn’t looked good in the field or on the base paths. Now Harrison with a passed ball. Team just doesn’t look very competitive. Very few at-bats that are resulting in hard hit balls, bad baserunning. Not a fun team to watch right now
Yeah, KJ has that ball if he’s at 1b and Ice doesn’t let the ball get by if he’s behind the plate.
Gotta agree. Casey trying to shake things up, but those two moves vs UCLA don’t seem too smart.
Hexed?
BTW: game now on regular TV
Generous scorer giving the guy a hit. Trevor was there in plenty of time double clutched the ball and just made a bad throw.
Eckert gives up 2 runs on 4 hits in the inning and is at 44 pitches through 3. 2-0 Bruins.
Clark up with two on. Good rip at the first pitch but fouls it off. Then squares to bunt. Clark bloops one off the hands and sacks juiced with nobody out.
King rips it but right at the first baseman. Run scores on the put out
Beavs take the lead as Nobach grounds one up the middle and scores two.
That’s how you respond.
good hard hit balls here. Need a little better base running. Keep this rally going, boys!
Can’t fault Morrison for holding up between 2 and 3, BUT I really didn’t like the way he overslid/jumped off the bag going into 2nd. Could have been big trouble.
Cary has some serious pop. God damn
Wow. Cary blasts one over the fence. 5-2 Beavs. No question it was gone, only if it would stay fair.
Holy fuck!!!!!! Elliot Cary just hammered that ball into a different zip code! 5-2 Beavs
Hopefully the kickstart he needed to get his season going.
Props to Angry, Cary a 2RBI HR.
Now, that is the kind of lineup shake up you gotta support!
5-2 good guys.
HR/ Mop Dog commercial…sweet!
That swing by Cary was beautiful.
Beavers looked a little lifeless until that error. Suddenly some confidence returned and the guys look completely different and the dugout is chirping a bit. First time the offense has had an inning like this in a few weeks
Well, not an error but mistake. Opened the door and they didn’t blow their opportunity
Meechicken State beats the ducks again 9-4. Will go for the sweep tomorrow. Lol
Didn’t we beat that team on a walk off in Surprise?
Cary with a brain camp there
Is that like physics camp?
Physics camp sucked. Nobody could think inside the box.
Sloppy sloppy. Poor play on the sac fly and then a 2 out walk.
I think it is fine to give Harrison some experience behind the plate, but not in such an important game. Non-con or less competitive conf. game makes more sense to me.
Bullpen meltdown in 3, 2, 1
Might want to get Reser out of there since he can’t get lefties out.
May be time to quit giving up 35 yards in right field. Think Beavs will lose this one without another run or two.
Pitching Reser over Heimlich possibly will cost them the series.
Heimlich showing the signs he will likely be one of our most reliable relievers this season.
You mean the only reliable reliever? I’ve seen nothing from anyone else that makes me trust they’ll get it done.
I was thinking that this one’s on the coaches. Cary playing way over toward center and to a left handed batter no less.
Not a hit by the Beavs since the big inning
KJ GIDP with two on and one out.
Heimlich comes in and it’s a 1-2-3 inning
1-2 pitch to the Leadoff batter and Heimlich plunks him. Bruins try to sac bunt even with 2 strikes. Batter gets it down. Looked like Heimlich had a play at 2b but throws to 1b
Line drive off Heimlich’s glove then his face. Corners with one out
Pomeroy takes the mound
bases loaded…game over
5 pitch BB. Hickey to the hill with the bases loaded one out
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Pomeroy get someone out.
Hickey gets squeezed on the 0-2 pitch and gives up the go ahead run on a curveball up
Ballgame right here. Beavs can’t get anyone out and UCLA poised for a big inning. This bullpen blows!
Beavs losing this series. Some questionable decisions were just enough to let it slip away. Better get the series over the Quacks. Hope they come back but really doubt it.
Seems like Berg gets that low strike and we don’t.
Nobach loses the ball in the lights and bases cleared
FUGLY :(
ugh, Nobach.
Umpire lost them the game with the missed call strike 3
Yep. Need to give those guys overtime pay so they stop blowing games.
He did show he leans UCLA on a 51-49 call that was deserving of the K if for no other reason it was hittable and the batter didn’t defend the plate.
51-49? More like 99-1. That was an absolute perfect pitch right at the knees (when it crossed the plate). Everyone, including the batter, knew it. Terrible job throwing that guy a curveball, though. He clearly couldn’t hit the fastball.
Berg throws it, it’s called a strike
Seeing eye double and its 10-5 in a hurry.
UCLA just purposely hitting popups now to tack on runs.
Those Wisconsin unis are duck ugly!
On Wisconsin. Badgers take down mighty Kentucky. Beavergopher is in his own personal hell tonight. I hope they win it all. Can’t bring myself to root for Duke
#DukeStillSucks

As a wise man once said “Fuck Bo Ryan” – YouTube

I just cannot root for Duke and oh so precious Coach K and his bad dye job. In addition, he is the most boring host in the history of radio with his “Basketball and Beyond” bullshit which I attempted to listen to for about 5 minutes once.
Maybe “Fuck Bo Ryan”, but “Fuck Coach K” harder!
Lol about the dye job. Black dye jobs on old guys are the absolute worst. Real friends or family should tell him so. Pete Carroll has the right idea.
Bob Costas takes the cake.
I think dying is the worst of all options.
if it ever starts thinning, rogaine foam is worth every penny. avoid the generics though
Really? I heard bad things about Rogaine.
rogaine liquid sucks and is greasy/messy. Foam is like using styling moose. Doubles as a styling product and has had good results for me. only problem is you’re married to it if you want it to keep working.
I thought I once read it was linked to cancer, but I guess everything is so…
Problem is that once you get too old and continue to sport the black dye job, it’s hard to transition out gracefully.
