  1. Tinkle returns his entire roster from this season with the possible exception of junior swing man Victor Robbins, who was suspended for violation of the school’s substance abuse policies and also had a DUI arrest last season. Tinkle said Robbins’ status for next season has yet to be determined.

There it is. Substance abuse (weed probably) was the violation of athletic department rules

    • We knew that. It was his second. That’s why his suspension was one-third of the season. And the DUI is his third according to AD rules (any “event” involving substances considered “street drugs”). If he was arrested for trying to buy tobacco while under 18 the same would hold true.

The third violation brings a one year suspension starting on the date of said violation. And that suspension carries eligibility with it. So there’s no gaming the system by redshirting then playing in his fifth year. Next year is his last.

What’s interesting is how they’ll calculate the end date for the year-long suspension. Will it be concurrent with the ten game one he was already serving? Will he end the one-year suspension then finish serving the (two?) games left on that suspension? I figure the concurrent option is fair enough. It’s supposed to be a deterrent, and going all technical about such things is too much effort and silliness. It’s not as if a SA is going to say, “Well, if they’re going to be concurrent, then I’ll get my third violation before my second one starts.”

  2. Riley? My multiple super duper secret sources deep within ESPN itself indicate that Charlie Weis is hitchhiking his way here right now.

  3. In other news, angry’s handed the site over to me so I can work my software magic on it and rebrand it as scottybeavs.com

  4. Nikegon being the idiots they are:
    https://twitter.com/OregonMBB/status/583393889828016128

Hasn’t been listed for a couple years because Nikegon is dodging a home-and-home… well… not officially. Maybe it’s because Nikegon is just that forgettable. It is listed a couple pages previous. And a quick look at the actual media guide shows that the thing was created last fall… not today.

I’m thinking this one was saved up by some Nikegon tool who found this “anomaly” and thought this was the best way to present it.

    Fun fact:
Zags losing to Duke makes them 0-3 against them. There are a dozen or so teams Zags is 0-fer. All but Duke and some other mysterious team are one or two games. The other mysterious super-secret team has 11 wins against Zags.

And I would like to see that team play an annual home-and-home series.

But then… I’ve already written about how I think regional dominance comes from playing everyone in the region… probably ad nauseum.

  5. My sources tell me Riley is currently having dinner in Medford at the new In ‘n Out Burger. He’s hoping to find his identity afterward and make it to Corvallis by Dusk, but if he’s late and practice has to start at 2pm he’s alright with that, too.

  6. Rondae Hollis Jefferson taking his talent and stupid FT line shimmy to the NBA where someone will certainly body check his ass to the floor for doing something so retarded

  7. I don’t usually read bleacherreport, but thought this part was funny. Article is about staff changes that mostly went under the radar but could have a big impact in the upcoming season. Sitake was singled out as one of those changes.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2414448-10-under-the-radar-coaching-moves-that-will-make-huge-difference-in-2015/page/9

Former head coach Mike Riley pulled the rug out when he left Oregon State for Nebraska. However, with new head coach Gary Andersen (via Wisconsin), offensive coordinator Dave Baldwin (via Colorado State), quarterbacks coach Kevin McGiven (via Utah State) and Sitake, one could argue the new staff is better than the old one.

One could argue it’s not even close.

  8. Not sure if this is a University vehicle, or a personal one. Vincent Guinta (director of player personnel) posted his new car online today. I didn’t know hummers were still in production?

i guess if it’s a personal possession, and also the news that GA is building a house in Corvallis, at least it’s a sign that the new staff is planning to stick around for awhile.

          • I prefer German cars, personally. The ones I listed are just too effin big to the point where they create hazards for other people and many of the drivers can’t really handle them. Plus, they seat eight, but 90% of the time hold one.

          • Spent some time in Atlanta for work a couple of years ago. Was funny to see how many people drove Hummers/Escalades/other giant SUV’s. The demographics there are slightly different from Portland. They even had valet parking at the local mall, and it was full of those vehicles, almost all with a lift and giant low profile rims.

          • Laughed quite heartily at the new Chevy commercial where customers sit in the driver’s seat and say how nice it looks.

The bar for quality in this country is so low. I guess that’s why Wal-Mart is so popular. But I’m sitting here watching someone in a commercial talk about how “really high end” this car looks inside, and all I can see is a huge chunk of plastic for a dashboard.

          • Just curious Jaqui, how many other countries have you lived in, over nighters to TJ and Vancouver don’t count. Neither do Little Tokyo, Chinatown, or Little Italy. Be honest now.

          • I might not be fair calling you Duckie. There is no discernible difference between an OSU Pollyanna and a Duck fan. PO, eSchmuck, Schmuck Authority… they’re all the same.

          • panties in a wad, but didn’t answer my question? Bet you haven’t been off the left coast. Fuckin country boy with no experience, but a typical lib. Not an uck or poly, just a person that can’t stand the shit you espouse.

          • Wad? Country boy, but a lib? Left coast?

Did someone pee in your Wheaties this morning? You poor wittle person who has no choice but to read everything I write.

Do I really need to answer your question wittle man? Do I?

This is an ethical pondering for the ages. To be trolled, or to unwittingly catch trolls by waving at them.

Let me think about it for a while. I’ll get back to you.

*tee hee… I won’t get back to him on this idiocy… but since I said I would, now wittle man thinks I will… this should be funny*

          • Anyone want to get in the pool I’m starting?

I’m going with, “Just as I thought. You’re blah blah blah, and I’m all like better than you because blah blah blah… fer sure… blah.”

“You’re just a looser,” is still available, as is “Typical lib blah blah.”

  9. sounds like Riley will be doing his first local interview since leaving corvallis on 1080am in Portland today. I’ll find a link later once I find out the time

        • Rides bike into interview………………………………………………………………………………………………Gosh golly, gee whiz…………………………………………………………………………………………………………….that’s really a neat deal……………………………………………………………….finding identity…………………………………….(chews gum)………………………………….end of interview.

          • One thing, it doesn’t look like they are really scheduling FCS opponents anymore like they did when they were in the Big 12. I think the Big 10 is shying away from that. I would like to see them lose to BYU at home to start the season. Taysom Hill is recovering quickly from his broken ankle and is one off the best running QB’s in the nation, Banker should be shitting his pants.

          • It won’t be Banker’s fault. It will be because the blackshirts are too stupid to properly execute his awesome D scheme.

I can’t to see what happens the first time they pull that “throw the kids under the bus for this loss” thing.

          • He doesn’t sound happy there. There’s longing in his voice when talking about OSU. It’s kind of sad. Too bad he didn’t try harder and/or understand football basics.

        • Wow, he sounds wistful and regretful. They ask him about the overall talent level and he just talks about QBs. Why didn’t he just retire?

  10. From Gina:

An sample of one personnel group: Linemen Baker Pritchard, LaMone Williams and Jalen Grimble, linebackers Bright Ugwoegbu, Rommel Mageo, Kyle Haley and Manase Hungalu, safeties Cyril Noland-Lewis and Justin Strong and cornerbacks Larry Scott and Charles Okonkwo.

Doubt this is the starting unit, but nice to see the staff actually trying to get the best athletes on the field.

      • Being an alum of Utah, as well, my impression of Sitake is he has been riding the coattails of Whittingham, which I don’t mean in a derogatory manner. I think he got a big head with all the talk about the defense and his name being tossed around by the media as an HC candidate- entirely unwarranted in my opinion. It seemed to partially cause a bit of a dust-up between Whitt and the AD over assistant salaries.

But, I feel with Andersen the same way I feel with Whittingham, the defense will always be solid with them as head coach. And I think Sitake will be fine.

      • My hope that he’s a coach that simplfies the game, he wants hard ass guys that play fast and hit harder. Also, I think they keep things close to vest. Banker overcomplicated everything

    • “the best 11 are going to take the field. That’s just the way it is.”

Unlike the previous regime who gave preference to upperclassmen instead of talent

    • That sounds more like a Lane Kiffin move.

Now, if you would have said “Urban gosh darn it Meyer” I think we’re listening.

      • It’s an extreme situation…bike riding back across the country to beg for your job back….it calls for an out of character move for our hero.
