    • I don’t want to say anything too specific because I don’t know all the recruiting rules, but coach Woods and Coach Kauha’aha’a will be at Kaiser High tomorrow.

      • Don’t tease about Eletise. Put him with Auwae, and I’m good with recruiting for the year.

Well, give me a NT and a solid 3-teq.

          • I think Auwae visited TTech last week. His offers are lacking compared to his talent. He’ll get offers from any coach who has a brain by the time signing day rolls around. He can easily play any of the interior positions at this level and beyond.

  1. I attended the Beaver Road Show put on by http://www.ourbeavernation.com and I came away very impressed! What a great event! The coaches were all willing to talk to all the alums and fans. I highly recommend going if you’re able to make one at a city near you! First let me start by saying Gary Andersen is the real deal. He has such a strong commanding presence whenever he enters a room and speaks to a crowd. A Great visionary and leader. He is also very genuine and sincere, he was interested getting to know you as well and he introduced me to his wife Stacey. They’re both excited to move into their new home that they had built. I wish I could put the pads on again and play for a coach like him. He’s just a great person. He has the “it” factor. Now, I know he has yet to coach a game, but trust me he’s the real deal! Scott Rueck is an amazing man. I had a great conversation with him, and came away equally impressed with him as I did with Coach Anderson. He’s a diehard Beaver fan! He’s been a Beaver since he was born basically. He’s very supportive and passionate of all athletics, especially football! Coach Rueck is also genuine and sincere, and just a really cool guy! He has a heart for the game, and his players and he’s very competitive person! He mentioned that Tennessee is coming to Gill this year, and the his team is playing at Notre Dame! They love Oregon State University and are excited to sell it to the Nation! He said it’s easy to sell the program, because there’s no other place like it, it’s a true community, not just a place that pumps out a bunch of jocks. Both of these coaches embrace the culture, community of both Corvallis and OSU. They are all striving to put OSU on the map. Jim Patterson one of the associate athletic director’s mentioned wanting to add a men’s track team by 2018. He also asked many of the fans for their feedback of not only football, but the current direction of the athletic department. He was also very fired up for the new staff! He told me they went after and hired “winners” and they’re tired of getting pushed around. A new day is definitely dawning for not only OSU football, but the entire athletic department, and the energy and excitement among the fans, coaches, is powerful. I’m excited!

    • If GA and staff can take this team to the Big House in September and win, I’ll be pretty impressed. Utah did it last year quite convincingly. Why not OSU?

    • Don’t choke on the kool-aid young man. The previous coaches had the same work ethic and passion for the place signing their checks.

As a random example, Coach Robinson was not just a great player then coach, he was also a former wall street trader (and the 1st lady’s bro, hello!) so that should tell you plenty about his ability as a basketball coach and leader.

      • The previous coaches had the same work ethic and passion for the place signing their checks.

Not even close. You’re saying that someone who ditched OSU… twice… had as much passion? If Andersen ditches us, he’ll only do it once. That’s still not as bad as what Riley did.

      • and CR choked on X’s and O’s. But he was fucking awesome in being a teacher of young men on the matador defense. Dude’s a fucking pro

  2. Should be an interesting few days recruiting wise with coach Chad K and TJ Woods in Hawaii. We just offered a 2018 kid last night. Visiting others today. Hawaii is supposed to be one of the stronger areas for this staff recruiting wise so it’s time to see what they can do.

  3. Thanks to Oregon_State for sharing the road show stuff. It’s cool to hear from fellow fans that are having real interactions with our current staff.

For this year I’m going to cut Andersen slack. If he accomplishes 1 of 2 things this season I’ll find his season to be a success

    1) gets a top 25 recruiting class ( or a quality class with 3-5 4* players as that would suggest he’s pursuing the same kind of talent a lot of schools and is actually winning)

    2) 6-8 wins because that tells me he can actually develop players and a defense with a backbone.

Of course if he wins the Civil War I will forgive both if they fall short. I just want to rub a win in my smug duck friend’s face again

  4. Fwiw, sounds like we picked up a long snapper today. I think he woukd he another 2015 guy but no idea what the scholarship situation is like. I’ll spare you the thrilling highlight film. *snap* *snap* *snap*

    • Morovick was Read’s only saving grace. And that was because the rules changed in order to disallow canning a long snapper, not because Read did anything extraordinary with the kid… or did anything period.

And… I’m just now realizing that we’re Beavers and talking about long snappers. This has just been a double entendre type of day. I think I need to go home and hide myself before this Friday just gets silly.

      • Spoke with GA last night, and he specifically mentioned that they expected to sign a snapper today. He intimated that this was a need that he was concerned about.

        • I agree. The position was relegated to walk-on/development status under the previous regime. It worked well for them because… what kind of kid passes on a walk-on status followed by a ship once earned?

But it is an important position, one which deserves a ship from the get-go. Now that the NFL has moved the PAT back to the 15, I think we will see ST units developed for specific purposes. I envision the regular Oline and QB coming out of the game and sending in a unit of fresh ST players to run 2PAT tries and the extended PAT. I think this will slightly alter NFL roster plans to accomodate this rule and how coaches will make these plays going forward. There will be variant plans involving every-down players or none. But it’s something that will need to be addressed going forward. And that will affect college rosters. College coaches need to make the decision now or later to make that change and implement the same system. Those who do so now are in tune with the game.

  5. Does anyone else notice how biased the Pac12 network is towards oregon, especially on Twitter? Every chance they get, they’re so enamored and over the top with anything regarding the d-cks. I’m just curious if anybody else notices? To give them credit, they are featuring Oregon State for next seasons show “The Drive” which will be great exposure for the Beavs!

    • Bias? Crappy product will not get you equal time on the Home Shopping Network. Earned success will warrant more exposure.

        • Because it’s fun to say “Wazzu.”

Didn’t they try to ditch the Wazzu tag a couple years back? That was just dumb. They are and always will be Wazzu. I love Pullman and the surrounding area. I think they do nothing to help their effort by playing with semantics.

          Maybe they need an airport?

Oddly enough, Eugene is rated as one of the least diverse towns in this state. It is less diverse than Corvallis by two points. And that doesn’t include Springfield or other surrounding towns.

          Take that Schnelly!

    • Um… one of those teams won their conference and went on to play in the NC game. The other played a really neat losing season which included them coming in last in their division.

      Tartan!!!!

    • I was referring more to the Pac -12 twitter account, their tweets. I understand the success they’ve had in football, but I’m talking about currently on twitter. They probably have a d-ck alum running the Pac-12 networks twitter account, it would surprise me.

    • See if he ends up there on signing day. Every year there are a few head scratching early commits that end up going elsewhere. The new coach was one of Urban Meyer’s ace recruiters, so the kid may be buying what he is selling. It may come down to how the team performs this season.

      • Houston should be lined up to play in the Big 12 in the very near future, especially now that eaTme is in the SEC. The Big 12 needs that Houston market. I would expect Rice to be on that short list as well, except Rice makes Colorado’s application process look corrupt. They will never field a P5 winning team because of that. But if Houston had Rice’s stadium, they would already be a P5 team. They would also have an alumni base which wasn’t so dissociated from the school. There is a huge pool of money in Cougar High alums which has yet to be tapped. That will happen soon.

          • Likely the 5* is just the first domino. That happens in recruiting.

But I’m telling you now. Cougar High will be a Big 12 team soon. The old SWC went the way of Texas politics. But all those teams have history and tradition in football. When I say Doak Walker, what school comes to mind? When I ask about that guy who ran off the sideline to tackle someone, who comes to mind? There’s a reason Rice has the largest football stadium in Houston.

But there’s also a reason the Big 12 has shied away from the ex-SWC schools. It was viewed as too Texas-centric and corrupt then. And, as completely stupid as Texas politics are right now, they may be shying away from giving the conference over to a new Texas-centric party. While they need to be in the Houston and Dallas markets to solidify their brand and gain recruiting power, they also need for them to not lose all that by collecting schools who will suck all those advantages away.

I see the current recruiting news as a harbinger of at least UH joining the Big 12. It’s the simplest answer for me.

  6. I ran across two “neat deal” articles from (dare I say the OREGONian… Schnell’s gone at least.)
This article is about season ticket satisfaction:
    http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2015/05/oregon_state_beavers_mens_bask_10.html

This article talks about Oregon State recruiting the State and networking with High School football coaches:

I found this quote quite interesting! (*cough *cough.. I meant “neat deal” like)

Coach D: “Well, the first week that Gary Andersen was on the job he called me just to introduce himself. In (the decade-plus I’ve been at my high school) I never got a call from Mike Riley, so I thought that was kind of cool. They had a coach come by (recently), just kind of making the rounds, which I think is a good move. You need to get in the schools and at least act like you’re interested. On a sidenote, I’ve been at (my school) for (more than a decade) and they haven’t offered one of my kids a scholarship and we’ve had some pretty good players come through our place. We haven’t had one scholarship player at Oregon State (in over a decade).”

Times, they are a changin, for the better. There’s a lot to be excited about at Beaver Nation!

  7. Remember that time when just after some Collier free throws, the old viscious 1-3-1 that Robinson coached so well got our team yet another steal (led conference in steals that year) this time it was NBA superstar Eric Moreland who came up with it. Then after some excellent ball movement, Burton found Brandt for a contested 3 that was well anticipated by the opposing defense. The shot went down, giving the Beavers a 7 point halftime lead in a hostile environment against Cal.

The Beavers players regressed back to their previous coaching in the second half and ended up losing the game by double digits. (A Robinson coached team would never give up a lead like that) But it was bursts like that of outstanding basketball, (the 1-3-1, super exciting Princeton offense) that showed why the former coach is considered to be so innovative in the industry. The legacy of the talent he single-handedly brought to a tiny village like Corvallis will live on, inspiring the youth of generations to come, and continue to be considered one of the best rebuilding jobs in NCAA history.

    Go Braves! #ODAAT

  8. Am I allowed to talk baseball on a general thread? Is that allowed?

I don’t think we deserve a regional hosting at this point. Sweep Cal, then maybe I jump on that bandwagon. But losing to the Ducks just churned up about six or seven similar losses (two of which were the Ducks) that we just had no business losing. I get it. we’re extremely young. Even Moore suffers that because he didn’t get run support early.

I see Cal as a good hitting team. Moore will do what Moore does. Rasmussen needs to keep his FB down and let his D take care of him. Heimlich, Church, Fox, Tweedt, et al need to also trust their D. They are not elite painters. Put the ball down and out. Make the Cal hitters dig at strikes. Trust your D to make plays.

You can play small ball D while also going for broke on O. That, more than anything, has disturbed me about this team for a couple years. You can’t rely on staring pitchers and good bats in the meat of the order. Timely hitting is not a luck play. Work makes the process easy.

I’m sounding like a fortune cookie.

    • Yes. The loss Tuesday killed our chances. Too bad for Caleb. Had the error that turned the game around and in the b9 he had a chance to win it with Ice at 3b and struck out. Before that error though he was playing better than Morrison. I just wish we didn’t have to give up the 80 points in BA having Gretler in the line up.

      • probably a good thing that he arrived on campus in the Spring, giving him time to figure this out before wasting another full year in their system. If he transfers now, he’ll still be eligible to play the 2016 football season and have 4 years.

    • I posted about six weeks ago that the other freshman QB that also came in early had been killing it in the Fadgers spring camp and had already achieved major separation with A. Kafentzis. I guess the predicted buyers remorse came early. Sometimes the pick the school not the coach advice does not work.

      • There should be some kind of exemption for fist year coaches, regime changes, etc. Seems wrong he should sit out a year after being there only a few months and never playing a down.

Edit: it would probably be musical chairs with that system, but this just seems wrong. maybe instead of sitting out a year they should change it to losing a year on the back end.

        • He knew who the coach was when he signed, its on him for not being very smart about taking care of himself.

I called this when he signed.

        • It sucks. I agree that enrollment shouldn’t be the trigger point. The football season/camp should be that point. While people whine about kids getting their degrees and transferring elsewhere being some kind of loyalty issue, this type of garbage happens tenfold comparatively.

Note: I think I would have started my NCAA eligibility in my junior year simply by taking college classes at two of the local universities. I think that’s completely absurd. Perhaps the rules deal with post-grad kids instead of the situation I speak of? I need to look at that.

    • I wonder if he possibly comes here.

If the rumors are true he may have burned that bridge. I don’t really believe the rumors since he was willing to battle it out in Wisconsin, he just wants to be a QB so he’s leaving.

Sucks because he would have had a good shot of starting here this year.

      • Predictable, very predictable. Too bad Chryst probably lied to the kid back in January but I could see this coming….

        • He is a very competent O coordinator. The question was always did he have the skills to be the lead dog. He makes MR seem like a dynamic personality.

        • That’s an odd question.

I’ll leave that alone for now. Continuing to recruit and promise whatever to a kid despite it being famously… or easily… obvious that not a one of those promises can be met?

Priceless… fuck that… lying recruiters who eat shit and should now die in their own vomit.

Note to Steve Sarkisian… google may lead many people to this post. That’s not my problem.

        • You really want to say how viable a spread option QB might be in the NFL?

This will be as legendary as LMJ is a household name.

Or something…. fucking stupid Ducks… more fucking stupid than I am coherent while drunk… I need to go apologize to my wife for you fucking stupid fucks being so fucking stupid.

I don’t think she will accept that verbiage.

          I’ll figure it out.

Music to come? I gots some good stuff.

  9. Article written about his decision to stay with Wisconsin shortly after he committed.

    http://www.foxsports.com/wisconsin/story/shaken-but-not-stirred-qb-recruit-austin-kafentzis-felt-comfort-with-wisconsin-badgers-020515

    Kafentzis on Chryst:

“So he told me that you’ll be able to compete in spring and you’ll be able to compete for a QB position, not change me to a different position. They said they were honoring all our scholarships. I wanted to play quarterback. That’s kind of what the conversation went with him, and that’s what he told me.”

  10. The guy who first tweeted about Kafentzis transferring just tweeted this out:

Evan Flood ?@Evan_Flood 2m2 minutes ago

    @RhinoUte @Cardinal_Sports @__Trav_ won’t be Oregon State

      • Just checked back in too see if that guy Flood had more to say regarding Kafentzis and he now says

@Tjonessltrib @rydiculousness not sure yet. Lots of coaches calling. But that bridge was burned when he stayed with UW IMO

So sounds like his “not oregon state” talk wasnt based on anything other than his opinion.

        • Looks like he and Nevada staff have recently started following each other on twtter, possibly before the news broke today. Are teams allowed to contact players who are still committed to a school?

        • this dude sounds like a walking attitude. I don’t get what I want so I’m taking my ball and going somewhere else. If the rumor was true about him wanting to be promised something before ever setting foot on a college campus, I’d stay far away from him. He’s obviously not very bright if he still chose Wisconsin after they hired Chryst because it wasn’t going to be an offense that catered to his talents anyways. Sounds like a headcase with entitlement issues

  11. Couldn’t Wisconsin block Oregon State now if they wanted too? If they can I wouldn’t be surprised if they would.

  12. Stuck watching the ducks and UCLA, the “great” fans of the ducks must have forgot that their team was playing. Plenty of good seats still available as they say.

  13. Just saw the graphic showing Beavs with a post season appearance 9 of last 10 years? I dont remember things all that well, but I do recall that after our back to back national championships, we became the first ever reigning champion not invited to post season. That despite a more deserving record over who was chosen. Complete disprespect. Thats back when i really started hating on BDC.

    • Apparently you were not a fan at the time. I want to say that we were upset by not getting a nod in 2008. I think I had discussions with someone about Fresno getting in and us not doing so… and how Fresno so did not deserve that nod.

      Whatever.

  14. You people think I’m accessible because I make myself so.\

    I am. And I am’t.

Fuck y’all is not my message to the fucking stupid state of FUCKING TEXAS.

Let’s just see where that goes… not that it will be interestingoko

    • My best date ever:

I picked up the woman n Mendocino. We took the ferry to Frisco. There was a lot of time to actually talk and talk… and I guess talk. She turned off halfway across the bay. I still had fun… to the umpteenth degree. If she didn’t have fun, that’s not my problem. Say la vee?

        • you won’t be shunned here for your homosexual tendencies. Hey you said you suck………..in some way

          • Why does that mean man on man? There are a lot of places I can imagine putting my mouth, and not one of them has anything resembling man parts attached.

            Sounds like a you issue.

          • I still don’t get that phrase. I know what it’s supposed to mean. But how in the world does salad have anything to do with it? It sounds more like a pot dealer talking code with some customer.

The butt. It’s where your poop comes out.

    • This just goes to show how silly and somewhat worthless recruiting rankings are. It’s based on mainly population of where the kid is from, physical traits such as size, speed and weight, and finally which school offers. On the contrary if you recruit well enough , it usually equals more wins.
