Things are slow.
One thing on my mind is that the Beavs need a breakthrough recruit to take things to the next level (in that regard, recruiting). We all feel GA should recruit better than Riley because of his personality and winning tradition, but when do we see that breakthrough with regard to recruiting? Is it once he starts to win big on the field at OSU? Is there any way it happens before that? I think so, probably a domino effect after the first 4-star signs? Is it getting more Florida kids on board? I feel like right now GA is near the Riley level in terms of the star system, but slightly above Riley in terms of the eye test and how [more] developed the recruits are. But there hasn’t been the watershed recruit who changes the program yet. We need that guy.
On a funny note, Beaverblitz took two hours to break the last commitment, even though our own twitter feed had it seconds after it happened. They “needed confirmation”, even though the tweet came straight from the recruit himself. I’d say the only reason to sign up for Blitz in the modern age of twitter is that some of the posters there are close to the program and have good inside info, but even that is rare. In terms of the recruiting info, they are worthless in the twitter/hudl paradigm. Probably a main reason Mamma Machado was so afraid of Riley leaving is that she lost some contacts…
Otherwise, I’m just waiting for fall camp. There’s just not much going on that’s interesting. Have at it.
Yeah, pretty much until early August when fall camp starts is there anything to discuss. Until then, you might have a recruit or two commit but unless we get a 4-star basketball or football recruit or a 5-star women’s basketball recruit, you can probably turn down for June and July.
Victor Robbins being dismissed doesn’t surprise me at all. I hope he lands on his feet, but I think the dismissal might be good for him so he gets a chance to establish himself anew elsewhere. A change of scenery could surely get the young man on track. Opens up the number 4 jersey for Derrick Bruce I guess.
I hope the NCAA doesn’t count this as a recruiting violation: https://instagram.com/p/3kLW_-iERI/. Tres also has an eastbay on the ‘Gram. I think he and Stevie Jr. are gonna be one hell of a tandem.
Any thoughts on the newly opened basketball scholarship? Will the coaching staff try to fill it with someone new, leave it vacant or give it to one of the walkons?
Something new…

GA and OSU did get a commit from 4* star safety Michael Johnson, from Hialeah, Florida this week. Originally signed with Louisville, had offers from LSU, Nebraska, West Virginia, and UCF. He has four years to play three. Looks promising and he hits hard. Story here: http://www.oregonlive.com/recruiting/index.ssf/2015/06/michael_johnson_former_4-star.html
Highlights:
http://youtu.be/Rsz1FhsbVLI
won’t be here until January
Where do you see him listed as 4-star?
It varies by site. Espn has him as a 4* but Rivals shows 3*, and Scout went with 2*.
So either he’s a diamond in the rough, average, or he’ll be a non-qualifying, cant miss talent.
http://sports.yahoo.com/lsu/football/recruiting/player-Michael-Johnson-140676
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/172760/michael-johnson
http://www.scout.com/college/football/recruiting/player/171817-michael-johnson/
I thought we respected the “who offered him” game more than the “how do bloggers rate him” game.
If LSU thought he could play in their backfield, I’m thinking he has some talent. The lack of other offers from teams who showed some interest could have easily been because of academics.
I was just pointing out how far off the recruiting sites can be. He’s either a 2*, a 4* or somewhere in between…..really helps narrow things down.
I think it’s still pretty early to worry about this class. I agree it would be nice to land a Nice 4* but considering how they finished last time I think we’ll finish with a middle of the Pac 12. Which I consider a nice bump up compared to what we’ve had over the years. Only 6 signees of a class that will probably be around 24. Also Michael Johnson is a former 4* also. Right now I’m a little concerned about the diversity of the positions but should work itself out.
I’m not worried.
Even if he just recruits as good as Riley, that might not be too bad. Heck, they had the same number of NFL draftees as the Ducks this year. Doing more with them will be the key. A year of results on the field and I could see more blue chip recruits taking notice.
Utah did pretty well last year with the 11th or 12th most talented team in the conference, and Whittingham doesn’t even believe in playing offense. OSU should have the same defense and more O.
!TIRED OF ALL THE NOISE AND LIES
!BACK IN VEGAS THEY CALL IT SIN CITY FOR A REASON
I’m kind of hesitant to call GA a great recruiter. What are your expectations as far as class ranking?
Looking at the Rivals class ranks, he had a good class in 2011 at USU, but followed it up with a stinker in 2012.
If you count the 2015 Wisconsin class as his, yes, he does have the two highest ranked classes since 2009. But 33 and 37 are not that much higher than the 40 and 43 from Bret Bielema (who has recruited well at Arkansas but the rankings are not much different than past Arkansas rankings either).
I guess I’m hesitant to call him a great recruiter when we’re basing it off one good year at USU, and two good years at UW. It’s just a small sample size.
Riley had two 39s and a 44 which are in the same ballpark as Andersen’s best years at UW.
I get that Andersen had the better personality, and apparently his recruits highlight videos look better to some people, but I’m not confident we can expect top 30 classes year in and year out.
Hired as HC at Utah State
2009: 113 (Utah State), 43 (Wisconsin), 54 (Oregon State)
2010: 109 (Utah State), 88 (Wisconsin), 44 (Oregon State)
2011: 78 (Utah State), 40 (Wisconsin), 56 (Oregon State)
2012: 117 (Utah State), 57 (Wisconsin), 39 (Oregon State)
Leaves for Wisconsin after 2012 season.
2013: 105 (Utah State), 57 (Wisconsin), 39 (Oregon State)
2014: 106 (Utah State), 33 (Wisconsin), 54 (Oregon State)
Leaves for Oregon State after 2014 season
2015: 127 (Utah State), 37 (Wisconsin), 71 (Oregon State)
I’m kind of hesitant to call GA a great recruiter
He seems great in how he sells OSU to the media and his philosophies.
But even if you want to ignore that, Lockette and others on the staff are known as great recruiters.
I wonder if all the moving around is being used against him…a selling point at OSU was stability, whether we liked that or not. Now we have a HC who moves around…
It’ll be interesting to see how this pans out, and if any news breaks that schools are using negative recruiting against Anderesen (this is one thing Blitz is actually good for…sometimes people there know things like that).
The one thing that makes me wonder so far is none of the kids who’d committed to Wisconsin changed their commitment to the Beavs.
Yeah, that is a good point. They were able to keep their class pretty intact, even Kafentzis who supposedly had a good relationship with GA and would have been a perfect fit for the new offense.
We lost a lot of our recruits because they were obviously wanting to play for the previous coaching staff.
To me it seems like GA, and his staff at Wisconsin, were recruiting based on Wisconsin while Riley was recruiting based on the coaching staff. GA has obviously been embracing recruiting using Oregon State itself as a selling point. It’ll be interesting to see if that approach will work (like many here have thought for years).
The Utah coaches we brought over, and guys like Brennan, really seem to be recruiting more based on building relationships with the players. So, I guess we have a bit of a mixture now.
That’s what is interesting…that we wanted a coach who sold OSU and didn’t pick the easy, low hanging fruit who had no options. Now that we have that, not much has changed [yet].
Though, (a) I realize it’s early and (b) Andersen’s 2 and 3 stars look better than Riley’s. But in terms of objective rankings on the scouting services, etc, the Beavs have not really improved so far. I thought improvement would happy quickly.
I don’t know if it’s that “we wanted a coach who sold OSU” or just did a better job of both recruiting AND coaching. Speaking for myself, I know that I became completely disaffected with Riley and his apologists in the media when, in order to defend lackluster results, they began to BLAME those on the limitations of Corvallis and OSU. We get NONE of that from Andersen, nor, for that matter, from the coaches of the other major sports.
I forgot every word I type is scrutinized. Yes, we wanted both of those. We have it.
I definitely know the team will be better coached, tougher, and probably better conditioned based on what Andersen’s said. We’ll see a better product in all those facets. The missing piece to winning big, though, could still be talent if he can’t up the level a bit, though I do think it’s entirely possible to win big with a roster of legit 3-star talent. The good news is I have yet to see an Andersen 2 or 3 star who doesn’t look like a legit player. With Riley, there were so many, and they were always so obvious (e.g. Pankey, Krebs, et al). Andersen hasn’t recruited anyone on that [low] level, which is obviously god news. So there is a “higher low” than with Riley; now we just need higher highs.
Many here have denied for years that Oregon State’s facilities had any impact on recruiting. To these kids, facilities do matter.
When the new locker room is finished, we’ll see a great improvement in recruit rankings.
When we finish the stadium, we’ll see an even greater improvement in recruit rankings.
Give me an open field and a ball and peeps to beat.
Do I need more?
No… I can win.
Yes… I need a crutch.
There is no deficiency in OSU’s facilities. There is only a deficiency in thought.
The end.
I’m not to concerned over kids leaving Wisconsin to follow GA to OSU. Number one it has to be the biggest hassle to change schools and number two Wisconsin is Wisconsin… they get more fans at games then some pro teams.
Michael Eletise is a guy who could take recruiting to the next level. Hopefully some of the current recruits bring their highly rated friends on board, too.
When was the last time the Beavs signed more than 1 four star in a class? Must be 5 or 6 years…if not more. What about a 5-star? Only one I remember was Kuli the Yeti.
2012 was the last time they signed multiple 4 stars with Seumalo and Caleb Smith but one of them was the son of a coach on the staff. Never had a 5 star show up on campus under Riley
Looked at the Rivals 4+ star players since 2002… Lots of guys that never even saw the field.
What happened to Akuna and Molesi from 2010?
2015: none
2014: none
2013 Dashon Hunt was our last 4 star, and he just retired.
2012: Caleb Smith and Isaac Seumalo.
2011: Brandin Cooks
2010: Shaydon Akuna, Sean Mannion, Thomas Molesi
2009: Micheal Philipp
2008: Simi Kuli (5-star)
2007: Reggie Dunn, David Ross
2006: Joey La Rocque, Gabe Miller
2005: Ruben Jackson, Matt Moore, Edorian McCullough
2004: Keith Ellison, Bryan Payton
2003: none
2002: Brandon Lockheart, Deondre Alexander, Joe Newton
I think Molesi was a NQ. Last I heard he was at a C.C. and never would make it. Akuna looked good coming out of HS (but he was a man amongst boys so the film was deceptive), then he had injuries and retired after 2012.
I really liked Hunt. That was a huge bummer when he retired.
Jalen Grimble belongs on that list, even though he’s been battling injuries, he was a 4* guy out of highschool.
http://sports.yahoo.com/lsu/football/recruiting/player-Jalen-Grimble-91516
I’d be interested to see the star average of CK’s first years at Hole. I know they got some decent guys all along but they were no kind of recruiting powerhouse until they started winning consistently. I’m hoping Andersen and Co can have a similar effect. Win with the guys you can get then up from there.
So far, nobody has brought up the possibility that the recruiting sites may not rank a player who commits to Oregon State very highly….because it’s Oregon State? I’ve noticed through the years that when a recruit has an offer from OSU, they have a two or three star ranking, but when a Texas, or a USC offers the same OSU recruit, their ranking goes up to a three or four star ranking. I think it’s a mixture of both a lack of respect for OSU, and the star rankings are overrated. However, it would be nice to rank higher in the pac 12 recruiting rankings. Also a true test of how good a recruiting class is, is how many wins they have on the field later on. The proof of GA’s ability to recruit remains to be seen. I’d say give him a chance and let’s reevaluate a few years later. I think it will be key for him to win the state of Oregon first, that way his players will understand the true importance of the Civil War. The best players from Oregon must go to Oregon State!
Guess that’s that.
Alabama is not in his top 10, but Oregon State is.
Oregon State in the top 10 for Kaiser HS Michael Eletise out of Hawaii. https://t.co/7C0nGzqStC
Arizona
Arizona State
CAL
LSU
UCLA
Michigan
Nebraska
Ole Miss
Oregon State
Forgot Huskies
Watch Riley get him to Nebraska LOL. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the nads.
My bet would be Harbaugh/Michigan.
I was thinking he might not want to move that far but he has LSU and Ol Miss on his list. I’d expect an amended list soon. And Alabama is conveniently #1 alphabetically.
@WFO: Probably, maybe, then again……
He’s just announced his top 10 (obviously this can change) and he’s done it alphabetically.
Arizona; Arizona State; Cal; LSU; Michigan; Nebraska; Oregon State; Ole Miss; UCLA; Washington
Imo that right there is a big improvement from the Riley days.
He loves OSU. Beavs are still in it and probably will be until the end.
Maybe he gets a Bama Bump up to a 5 star. :P
He was already headed that direction
When did we offer him?
Just in the past week he’s gotten offers from TCU, Wisconsin, Texas, LSU, Alabama.
Of those only LSU is in his top 10 today.
March 9th. Looks like he already had 8 pac 12 offers at that time.
https://twitter.com/BeavRecruiting/status/575143444068179968
The Beavs hold a wildcard in that Coach Chad grew up with Eletise’s dad and remains a good friend. My guess is that they were already recruiting him for Wisconsin before coming to OSU. Coach Chad and TJ Woods have been the primary recruiters. Also, the Beavs are only 1 of a few teams that have offered all 3 of Eletise, Auwae and Herbig. Sortof feels like those 3 would love to play together in college. Theyre already a tight group. Keep an eye on Andru Tovi as a possible 4th O-lineman who is also friends with that group.
https://twitter.com/BeavRecruiting/status/607755672113979392
That’s an interesting angle. Take em all.
I believe Elu Aydon is also a cousin.
That is a ridiculous offer list.
It will be interesting to watch Oregon State featured on the Pac-12 Networks show “The Drive” and see if the exposure will help the Beavers in recruiting? It will be a great opportunity for this coaching staff and for Oregon State!
http://pac-12.com/content/drive-pac-12-football
off topic: Arizona has hired Nevada coach Jay Johnson to replace the retired Andy Lopez. Kind of a head scratcher but he does have west coast ties from days as an assistant at USD. One would think they could have done better than that

Funny thing about recruiting. Fadgers starting to complain about PC. They complained about GA not offering enough WI kids and the program losing it’s identity. Now they have lost some of the top in state kids, including one to a MAC school. Usually an in state kid had become a lock if they got an offer to Madison. It will be interesting how this plays out. PC is a very good technician, but has the personality of a Chia Pet on antidepressants.
I also heard a recent radio show where the host was getting on Chryst for how he handled Kafentzis and how that could really be damaging to them with future recruiting.
Has anybody heard where that guy is going anyway?
I heard Florida was a possibility.
Chryst for how he handled Kafentzis and how that could really be damaging to them with future recruiting.
Yes, that was my first reaction…I’d guess many recruits, too.
Geez, go easy on the badgers, for Chryst’s sake!
Tell that to Wiscy fans.
Anyone do FanDuel?
I have done it off and on.. Its a hustle for sure. The most I’ve won is $60. Its tricky with the daily setup. There’s 100 times more luck involved than regular fantasy sports The trick is to find low value guys who project to have a monster day.. Good luck with that.
A friend of a friend won $10k on a $5 bet. Since I live in Washington, I’m unable to place bets.
I disagree with Calibeav. I started doing it for football last year. I won $1,500 on a $5 bet and was only a reception + 20 yards from getting first and $10k. After that I started betting $100-$200 a week and usually made a profit. I also won $50 on the masters thru draftkings.
It’s a different experience than a standard league and fun in a different way. I think it takes more knowledge and strategy for fanduel to be a consistent winner. I personally think it’s fun to find the value pick and play around with your lineup all week to figure out the best combination.
Man, I can’t wait for fantasy football to start again.
HMM maybe that’s the ticket.. I play once in a blue moon. and change the lineup every time based on mathcups… Sounds like you stick with the same daily lineup and wait for it to win for a week? That makes much more sense.
No, not at all. I definitely use a differnt lineup every week. The trick is finding the right value. A good rule that I always follow is whether I think the player can get 3X their price.
So in Fanduel you get “$60,000” to create a lineup. Price for players will vary week to week. A top QB like Manning or Luck costs $10 ot $11k, which to me is overpriced as they would need to put up 33 points for me to get value out of them, but that also limits my option at other positions. I would rather get a guy like Tannehill for $7K or a backup that gets the nod on Wednesday but was priced at $5k. That opens it up for you to stack your lineup at WR and/or RB.
I put together a beta version of my lineup on Tuesday and play around with it all week making adjustments based on new developments and whatnot. By Saturday night or Sunday morning I have a set lineup and I just enter it into different games. A lot of 50/50s for $20 since those are easier to win than the higher priced 50/50s. I play a $5 tournament where you can win a lot of money since you’re playing against thousands of people. I play some double ups etc.. I also play a couple different lineups in 50/50s to hedge my bet and try to minimize my losses in case my favorite lineup bombs. So usually I only win about $50 a week, but I got 3rd in a 25,000 tournament once, and I have come close a couple other times.

30 second shot clock coming to college hoops. Plus a reduction in timeouts? I know the faithful are gonna watch regardless, but this just makes things so much better for the viewer and the player. This shouldn’t really have much effect on most teams moving forward, with an actual roster of scholarship players we ought to be getting shots up more quickly. I’m thinking it’ll be 3 TVs per half and 4 TOs per game/team.
More proposals here: http://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2015-06-08/ncaa-changes-shot-clock-30-seconds-makes-other-changes-game
https://twitter.com/ncaawomensbkb/status/607984684555829248
This should be interesting. 10 minute quarters.
-TV timeouts will be after 5, between quarter, after five (so three TVs).
-Teams get 4 timeouts a pop, 2 carry over to second half. The TO provisions will be finalized a couple weeks from now.
-Plus, the ball can be advanced to the frontcourt in the last minute of the game.
Read more here:http://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-women/article/2015-06-08/ncaa-womens-basketball-adopts-new-rules-including-four-10
The first NCAA link had some good ideas. I wonder if officials will actually enforce them. Anyone who like hoops has to like less time-outs. I really like the idea of not allowing coaches to call time-outs during live action. And I really like that a TO called within :30 of a scheduled media TO just becomes the media TO. Nothing was/is more frustrating to watch than a coach kill live action with 4:04 to play in a half because he can get a two-fer on TOs and just kill the pace of the game.
Another pet peeve is the blind no-step, moving high screen that just looks ugly and detracts from the game. I’m so tired of pick and pop. I can’t recall the last time I saw a pick and roll because that pick is always moving toward half court. It’s the handle’s responsibility to run off a set pick. Why am I watching a constantly shifting big try to compensate for the handle’s deficiencies?
I don’t know why they insist on keeping the 10 second rule for advancing to the front court. Losing the five second rule is fine, especially if the shot clock is less. The point isn’t that D needs to be rewarded for that in and of itself. If it takes :20 for the O to advance, the D is already rewarded with a less efficient and panicked O. The opportunities for transition points are greater, and it doesn’t yet again stop the game.
Good insight and ideas. In the old days, only a captain on the floor or on the field could call a time out. Why should a non participant coach in any sport ever be allowed to call a timeout?
Hey, look at Coach Tinkle’s armpits and tell me he’s not participating!
Any beavs or potential future beavs taken today in the MLB draft?
Moore was taken 72nd overall by the Mariners. I’m guessing that’s either late 2nd-round or early 3rd.
2nd Round Supplemental
That high he’s as good as gone
I was thinking the same thing…How does he turn that down?
$852,800 according to this link. Not sure if that is max or it’s negotiable. I am not caught up on how the slotting thing works. 850K would be pretty tough to turn down though
http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2015-mlb-draft-slots/
Connor tweeted that Moore verbally accepted 800K before they drafted him.
Sounds like football recruiting in the SEC.
Moore said the Mariners called him a few picks before he was selected and was asked if he would sign for $800,000 if he was taken at pick No. 72.
“Of course, we said, ‘yes,’ ” he said.
from http://www.seattletimes.com/sports/mariners/mariners-take-pitchers-nick-neidert-and-andrew-moore-in-mlb-draft/
Good luck and we wish you well in the pro’s A Mo
A few items from the G-T story on Mo’s selection, ERA .4 better in conference vs total, and better than 5:1 K:BB ratio:
And Hendrix makes 42. 4th Round to the Yankees.
Couple things here since it’s slow…. 1) if anyone in here plays clash of clans… Let me know ASAP! And 2) my name has been my Twitter handle for as long as I’ve been here…and it’s been wrong this ENTIRE time… *FacePalm*
Again, “since its slow”……How would you advise A-Mo to handle that $850k he signed for?
He should buy 850k worth of his rookie card.
Invest in Angry Soap Co.
He should give it all to this.

New commitment from DE Joah Robinett. I dont have time to send other links right now
https://twitter.com/BeavRecruiting/status/608357515051565056
He’s unranked on Rivals and a 2* on scout. Moved to California last summer, from Illinois before that. Could be one of those “slipped through the cracks” guys as far as the recruiting rankings go since he transferred midway through his high school career, but I have no idea. Haven’t watched his film yet. Tall and skinny at 6’8″ but only 218 lbs.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1736108/joah-robinett
TE?
They recruited him as a DE, at least according to his visitor’s pass from his recent visit.
https://twitter.com/JoahRobinett/status/608356922891358208
Yeah, he said they like him at DE/OLB. I bet they start him at OLB and if he soaks up enough weight, move him to DE.
He’s going to end up getting some big offers down the road. Wisconsin loves him, he visited Oregon and they’ve said he’d get an offer if he could get up to 230#, Utah I think is about to offer.
He could be a steal if he can gain a little weight.
He’s only 12 lbs away from 230. I can do that in a week if I put my mind to it :)
Let’s hope he waits until after signing day, to keep those other offers at bay.
Maybe he should play wide receiver for three years first.
Where did you read about wisconsin/oregon/utah? Is that from one of the paywall sites? Good info, just havent seen it anywhere else
If you google his name, you can see all the same headlines. I imagine the details are within those stories.
I have access to those stories, and don’t see anything about Oregon telling him to put on weight, or Utah showing interest. The Wisconsin stuff is out there though. They like him and his teammate Burgess, similar to the Beavs.
Snip
Although he possesses the skill set Oregon desires, Aiken wants to see improvement in another area before an offer could surface.
“They told they’re heavily interested in me,” Robinett said. “Their main concern with me is my weight. I weigh 210-pounds but they want to see me reach 230 (pounds) by the start of this fall.”

Cool, thanks Mud. My google must be broken…
I feel dirty after reading an article on eDuck
Back when Robinett was offered, his teammate Terrell Burgess, a 3* Corner with offers from Wisconsin/Arizona and a few other schools, was also offered on the same day.

Blitz makes the commitment “official” just now. Got that confirmation in a little under 4 hours.
Looking like the Beavers might not lose any recruits to the draft. Cadyn Grenier is probably their best incoming player and was projected in top 4 rounds and was told he might go in the first. Late in the 7th round and he hasn’t been selected. Likely told scouts he wasn’t gonna sign no matter what. Can’t remember the last time the Beavers didn’t have a recruit selected in top 5 or 6 rounds. They’re losing Moore and Hendrix but will still be really good next season. Grenier IMO, will be the starting shortstop next season. Incredibly talented.
Trevor will be hard to beat out. He was starting to hit pretty well when he got hurt and has more power potential. Middle infield will be loaded next year. We desperately need some power in the lineup besides KJ.
Through 40 games, he hit .319 with 18 RBIs, one home run, 24 runs and two stolen bases.
Not gonna link the article to the shit rag but those were his stats until the point he got hurt. No double or triple stats in there but one home run? .319 is a damn good average but I don’t see the power potential that you do.
Will be interesting to see how Oregon State’s recruiting strategy could work for, or against, them as they get closer to signing day. They have well over 100 offers out, and already have commitments from 8 guys for 2016.(assuming Clarke is gone for good)
Trevon Bradford WR
Jadarius Byrd DB
Javonte FergusonWR
Michael Johnson S
Mason Moran QB
Artavis Pierce RB
Joah Robinett DE
Emony Robinson DB
I read somewhere a few weeks back that GA wanted to sign around 20-23 guys for 2016, so we’re down to having about 11-14 spots remaining. Either that’s going to force some lower rated guys who are on the fence to make their decision sooner, or it’s going to have the same effect on some of the higher rated guys. I’m afraid it’s going to force the hand of the lower rated guys more.
Also, the ratings on these guys are guaranteed to change, as we’ve already seen two of them go from unranked to 3* rating shortly after committing to OSU.
8 commits through early June is quite a bit more than we’re used to having. A year ago we were wondering what the hell was happening and when our first recruit would give a verbal.
We seem to be offering a lot of guys early and they’re committing because we’re their best offer.
I could see more guys decommitting if they get bigger offers or generate more interest, like Keivonnis Davis and Devon Clarke did.
We are getting the same dudes Riley was.. sigh
The guys have higher level offer lists, and how many commits were there at this time last year and in 2013?
In 6 months, without playing a down, they’ve been able to get the same recruits Riley got after 12 years. Building trust takes time.
That is rather an amazing way to look at it. How many of the kids who have committed are underrated now and expecting to blow up or at least increase their profiles? How many of those did we have at this point in years past? How many are being accepted by us because our staff already knows who they are? In the past, how many B kids were told to wait to commit for various reasons–see if you get better, enjoy the process, you’re our plan B, etc.?
I think the positions committed belie the process our coaches are taking. They’re accepting underrated kids’ commitments who might look now like low hanging fruit. But their measurables are better at positions where players are really… not a dime a dozen… but much more populated. Or at QB they identify someone they have fallen in love with, and they told him so. And these commitments are hard for us to gauge in terms of solidity because we just haven’t seen these numbers before.
But the big time recruiters all have these problems that we have yet to see. Kids commit and then change their minds at other schools. We’re just going to have to accept that we’ll win some and lose some if we want to play on that level.
But the trenchers, backers and TE-types still need to fill in this class. And the plan A kids look really really good. Hell, their plan B kids look really good too. Even more heartening is that we got some kids in that group late last year who stuck and will actually not be attending some JUCO in August.
It’s still all wait and see. But it sure feels a lot different than it has in the past decade.
Dam it!! I voted your comment down when I meant to vote it up. Sorry about that.

Wilner up with a piece on the PAC12 CEO meeting:
http://blogs.mercurynews.com/collegesports/2015/06/08/pac-12-conference-news-from-the-ceo-meetings/#more-40029
Conference to create a sales arm to, potentially, replace IMG and Learfield (but “not a peep” about the PAC12 Network), and football gets a “spotter” to review in real time, plays which may involve injury.
But, the lead item is: Women’s Sand Volleyball to be a conference-sponsored sport beginning in 2015/16. To which the Stanford MBB coach responds:
This will not fly on the campus in Eugene
You do know that handle is a troll. Do you not?
Yeah, still got a kick out of the response. What do ya think about the other items mentioned in the article? Sounds like the “sales arm” could be a bust right from the start.
The network pains are understandable. If anything, it was too much optimism in an industry where one network already rules and makes up the rules. Those conferences who went with a hybridized model where they gave over a percentage to ESPN find success because they aren’t stepping on toes. The PTN is in direct competition with them instead. While I appreciate the independent process and vision, if it was all about money from the start then they should have asked themselves, “Do we want 70% of 100, or do we want 100% of 50?” And they should have tailored their expectations to follow those numbers instead of thinking they could get 100% of 70 or better.
No surprise here. Hendrix and Moore will not be returning
Hendrix indicated that he plants to sign with the Yankees and begin his professional career.
MLB assigns signing bonus slot values for the first 10 rounds of the draft. The 123rd pick is slotted for a $456,800 signing bonus.
Hendrix wasn’t ready to speak about contract negotiations, but his bonus will likely be close to that number.
“We haven’t really discussed too many numbers yet,” he said. “But we have a general consensus of what’s going to happen.”

And as already reported……………….
Around the 68th pick, a Seattle Mariners scout offered him an $800,000 signing bonus to forgo his senior year of eligibility. Moore agreed.

Great job Hendrix and A Mo. We’ll miss you both, but good luck in your future endeavors in the show. Now, we know for a fact Rasmussen will probably be the Friday night guy next year. Still a chance Eckert gets drafted in one of the late rounds but I seriously doubt he signs. So who will be the third starter next year? Anyone freshman coming in that can take on that role? Luke Heimlich? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?
Heimlich can be a starter. I think he’ll make a big jump since he’s basically a HS pitcher this year.
I agree. He could’ve been at prom during the regional.
Regionals were just like prom anyway. We let everyone reach first base at the least!
Jake Thompson, Christian Martinek and Daniel Slominski. All already on the squad and said to be ready to go next season.
Fox has been slow to develop, but he’s showing some good lefty stuff as well. I guess this comes down to whether or not Yeskie can get them all to add that extra pitch, or whether or not they pick it up from summer leagues.
forgot about Thompson. Did he even play this season?
3 starts and charged with one L before he hurt his back.
I guess we missed this yesterday.

I posted about that a few weeks ago. He should be good for helping the smash mouth running game.
Hate them as I may, they crank out damn good O-lines.
I thought the news was old. Maybe the date is because it’s now official.
Travis Eckert taken in the 20th round by the Vagiants. That’s much higher than I thought he’d go. He could be gone as well
He seemed always on the edge of meltdowns even when he was doing well.
I hope he is not in the rotation next year if he comes back.
I’ll cut him some slack since this was his first year in D1. If he does return he should be better
Toronto picks Gabe Clarkvto strike out for them in the 26th round. We can only hope his bat doesn’t return
Gabe Clark is taking his talent for striking out north of the border.

Looks like Grenier did a Conforto. So in that same vein, let’s see how that worked out.

They just need pass their online yoga classes.
Wrong spot. See below.
Yeah, that’s what I thought. Scouts really love Grenier and he was gonna be more than likely a second rounder. Getting him to go to school is a big coup for Casey.
Grenier will up his leverage. His arm is good enough that he can play either position on the left side. His D will be the factor. If he pushes Morrison to 3B AND has range, he’s golden. The world is starving for a true SS right now.
We might have two 6’7 stArting DE’s in years to come.
Kafentzis transfers to Nevada. Could have been competing for the starting job next year but instead he’ll be sitting out a year in Reno. Guess that’s what happens when you believe in Chryst.
Yep, everyone saw it coming aside from himself and his dad.
“According to a story by Jason Galloway of the Wisconsin State Journal, the former Jordan quarterback finished spring ball as the fifth quarterback and was behind true freshman Alex Hornibrook on the depth chart.”
Although after reading this, I don’t know… 5th on the depth chart… even tho we have a different QB situation.
Nice note about Dylan Wynn.

The video also had some good tidbits on Jordan Poyer.
Wynn got a brief mention again after yesterday’s practice, sounds like he’s having a decent camp:

If he can stick, he just may have a better career in the pro’s then he did in college…they will certainly use him alot differently than what he was asked to do for the Beavs
Nick Madrigal has been added to the Corvallis Knights roster and will be starting tonight. Guess I’ll get a first hand look at the incoming freshman
Madrigal doubles in his first at bat for the Knights
Right now that team needs all the help they can get.
OT… let the water wars (in our back yard) begin.

This isn’t even about the dumb Dr. Strangelove conspiracy theory about our precious bodily fluids. This is about contracting a vital resource for a long term to a corporation who will find a way to steal it beyond the methods they employ here. This isn’t give an inch/take a mile. This is give 100 miles/ take the world.
In business, I’m used to about a .6 multiplier for a wholesaler. I am more than astonished at a 10,520% pump on the wholesale price. That’s a little more than .6… I think… IMO… or something.
I’m sure there’s nothing corrupt about all this once the bank accounts of city officials are checked and all.
mere mention of bank reminds me: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/three-charts-that-show-icelands-economy-recovered-after-it-imprisoned-bankers-and-let-banks-go-bust–instead-of-bailing-them-out-10309503.html
That one is twofold. I believe in imprisonment for bank officials who follow the “libertarian” plan. I also believe in the death penalty for businesses who employ them. The call for deregulation invites, incubates and fosters this behavior… without fail… always and forever. There is no study or even reasonable look at the numbers which will defy that logic. That is the way it is. That is the way it will always be.
Too big to fail is an amalgam of such corruption on several levels, not just the banks. In Iceland and Ireland, they took advantage of banks theretofore incorrupt. If they hadn’t seen it before, they didn’t know what was coming. And that means nothing in the end since we’ve seen it time and again and still allow it to occur.
I feel like I’m arguing with my grandfather… who has a house on the Russian River and congregates with mucky mucks there all the time. I just don’t know how the world works. There are some things the public doesn’t need to know… or doesn’t want to know. Better it be left to those who know better.

Life would be so much easier if I just went Stepford. I could probably get the west side of Reser redone with the blink of an eye.

Should have thrown Spain in there too.
Greece was different. But Friedmanism and the fucking garbage that is Randism are so obviously failures… and that’s compared to feudalism.
I kid.
But those ideals are so fucking unachievable from the get-go that one has to wonder why someone would even put them in print. Friedman did it because his theory relies on anything but emotion or human tendencies. It’s open-ended to the point where it creates straw men immediately and builds on them. Rand was just an idiot who started in idiotville.
I can go on.
If you don’t believe anything, believe that… or don’t.

http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/oregon-state-not-projected-to-make-a-bowl-game-in-2015-061115
“This shouldn’t come as a total shock due to the fact that Las Vegas sports books have pegged the Beavers to win four games this season.”
Is that number factual? Anyone been to a sports book lately? I’d be happy to take the over on that number.
We went over the number a couple threads back. It’s correct. I have a friend who pegs it at 6.5 and would take the over. I think 5 or 6 are the reality at the moment.
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2015/5/26/8661781/college-football-season-win-total-bet-odds-ohio-state
This is where that total of 4 came from. My work blocks gambling sites so I can’t look it up to see if that number is still current.
Wish I had that prop bet now…my book only has OSU to win Pac – 12:
place a dollar to win 5800
…and the National Championship
place a dollar to win $58,500
That’s worth a dollar flier. If you feel the need to put $100 or more down, you can give it to me.
I will gladly pay out… or run.
Buy a Megabucks ticket instead. Better chance of winning.
And OT… I guess it’s good that something “college” lives on. This is about a 3 on the old college try list. But at least it registers.

More on Conforto:
Aside from his performance at the plate, Conforto has impressed the team with his quickly evolving defense in the outfield. It was originally considered a weakness for him, as he only started playing the outfield recently while in college.
http://justmets.mlblogs.com/2015/06/08/recently-promoted-michael-conforto-has-carried-his-production-to-binghamton/
Excuse me if I didn’t notice his faults in LF. I saw an exceptionally accurate, if not powerful, arm from LF. And his fielding was pretty much spot on and filled with effort. And even the arm being questionable is a weird thought given he was so good. He’s just a natural.
Anybody see a tube of Lotrimin laying around?

Holy crap. Traffic just increased here because of those words. That’s really stupid.
I have a friend who has a daughter named Cailin. I introduced this sweet child to a friend of mine who thinks he’s right wing and is still in the military. He looked down at her and said, “Wow. Not Caitlin, right? Because that’s not good. Cailin is an awesome name.”
I looked at him with puzzlement because I know him and his kids, “Is one of your nieces named Cailin?”
I had zero clue why he said what he did.

Well, you were late.
First one’s good… surprised you didn’t go with the equally amusing hope and *cough* change *cough*.
Second one’s too vague. I mean, idiot boy probably did do “it,” but “it” is usually specified.
Never heard the third. It’s not even close to what I hear from blacks, who I suppose you are mocking.
Ugh! HRC and McCain were the only reason Obama was palatable… if you consider eating at McDonald’s palatable.
Fifth is conditional. You’ve defended blind racist statements here as being something other than what they are. So I wouldn’t expect you to even understand the basics, let alone the nuances.
Some better sheeple words used to lead the blind on “the left” (see what I did there… I called people who are right of center “left” because people are morons and believe that shit).
Teabaggers (to be fair, they called themselves this first)
Focus Group Phony (like Dems don’t use them)
Corporatist (good word, just misused [probably deliberately] by corporatists on the “left”)

Obstructionist Congress
Nick Madrigal looked like the real deal for the Corvallis Knights tonight folks. Just one game but he had two doubles, a single and a stolen base. Kid’s got wheels and all his throws from SS looked good too. Looking forward to watching him the next two months and the next few seasons at OSU
This from the G.T.
“I got in around 4, we hit a ton of traffic, we were in traffic for two hours, we got to the park, it was five minutes ‘til game time,” Madrigal said. “And then they told me, ‘put your stuff on and run out there.’ I didn’t have time to stretch or anything.”
Imagine how he’ll do with time to warm up!
And, “I think the game of baseball is the same game anywhere you play, so I just came out here and tried to do the best I could,” he said. “It’s an honor just being here playing on this field in front of everyone.”
Sounds like a nice kid, he’ll fit in fine.
I’m guessing that’s 2 hours from PDX? Traffic makes sense if his flight got in there at 4.
Yeah, PDX. If only Corvallis had a world class airport!
Sometimes just running out there and playing is a good thing for the mental part of the game. You skip building up the game in your brain and making it bigger than what it is….and you let your training, body 2nd-nature take-over and react (no thinking is a good thing in sports).
ESPN when the Cavs win: “LeBron is doing it all by himself”
ESPN when the Cavs lose: ” LeBron can’t do it all by himself”
Dear ESPN,
I’m sending you a towel to wipe LeBron’s ball bag sweat off your chin
How do you guys watch ESPN? Especially NBA…
Yikes.
You must be so bored and have high tolerance for crap.
I was at the Knights game tonight so I did not watch any of the nba finals. I was just going off some opinionated commentary I read after getting home. I don’t plan on watching any of the CWS. You are right. ESPN blows sooooooo bad
I haven’t watched it in about 10 years, other than if they have a Beav game on…it’s brutal.
I don’t watch espn anymore either accept there are some really good 30 for 30’s. Most people like the 2 part series about “The U” the rise and corruption of Miami Hurricane Football. I personally love the ones about 80’s and 90’s basketball: The Bad Boys, I hate Cristian Latener, It’s Reggie Time, etc… all a lot of fun to watch.
I thought a high tolerance for crap was an angrybeavs comment board requirement
Thank you it’s so hard to watch the shit people buy into because they’re constantly fed it. Glad to see objective and aware fans.
A few things are quality, like the Film Room broadcast of the CFB championship game was very original and well-done. But, yeah, the vast majority of it is just regurgitated phlegm.
I don’t understand. I watch ESPN when they’re broadcasting some game/race/match/event I want to see. I’ll turn on SC some late nights when I want to catch scores. It sounds like their documentaries are good. I’m pretty sure they’re on demand somewhere (no?).
I don’t even know what other content they have besides morning radio simulcasts. And talk radio is just so boring… except for the lunacy which was Art Bell overnight. I see other sports I don’t care for, so I don’t watch those events. I don’t like many announcers on the highest of levels. So it’s no surprise that I can find fault with the dregs of that profession.
It’s not that I have any tolerance for crap. It’s that I expect that to be the case when I tune into most sporting events. So I either mute and play music or don’t pay attention to what they’re saying. They just become an adult on a Peanuts cartoon.
Beaver football has prepared us well.
I just gained some respect for Chip Kelly.
NFL11hPhil Sheridan
Eagles release absent Pro Bowl guard Mathis
Pro Bowl guard Evan Mathis, unhappy with his contract and absent from OTAs, was released a week before the team held mandatory training sessions.
Kelly will very likely be gone after this year. Respect? He just took a dump on his team. Mathis’ contract negotiation was pretty close to done when Kelly took over personnel decisions at the end of the season. Then Kelly tore up the offer and said, “get bent.” Mathis complained, so Kelly tried to trade him, asking for way too much in return. I think it’s understandable why Mathis might not attend voluntary workouts. And it’s likely Kelly is just sitting on the sidelines and stewing about what goes on at OTAs. I think he’s left with Gumby, Pokey and Mike Remmers for an offensive line.
The reason for not giving one of the better guards in the NFL an extension is that he was injured and missed half of last year. Oh… but Kelly is willing to give money to Sam Bradford. And he’s willing to take on an injury prone DeMarco Murray… who had 400 carries last year.
Kelly will get some players because he’s playing with house money. But the house is going to want their cut soon enough. And players see what he’s doing. They will stay away just like some are just leaving. I think he watches Belichick do some of this stuff and thinks he can do the same. But let’s run over the history of Belichick’s success as a brilliant NFL coach.
Drew Bledsoe gets hurt, and he happened to have Tom Brady as a back-up.
Done. Later Chipster.
You forget to mention all of the sly cheating, playing in grey areas, and bending of rules contributing to Belichick’s success. I deduct at least two of the super bowls due to cheating. St Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks. No way the Patriots beat the Rams without recording the Rams first half offense/practices. No way the Patriots get by the Ravens without those inelligible receiver plays (….also have deflate gate, but think the Patriots would have still handled the Colts). Makes me wonder how much cheating was done in the regular season to help them get into the playoffs in the first place.
Agree, Chipster won’t last long without his stud players — he cleaned house a little too much!
Don’t forget they don’t even get the chance against the Rams unless the tuck rule comes into play.
Cheating aside, he doesn’t even become marginal and get the chance to do those things on that high a level without Brady… and being in the AFC East concurrently.
Ahhh yes, the tuck rule.
….and AFC LEAST is just awful. In the last ten years, there might be five playoff appearances amongst the Bills, Jets, and Dolphins combined….then Patriots cheating against them too, wow, they have no chance!
Just looked it up. 2001 was the last year Indy was in the AFC East. The Pats, Jets and Dolphins all made the play-offs that year. Remember that was Jim Mora’s last year with Indy too. And, of course, the Pats won it all for various reasons.
Since that time, the three teams other than the Pats in the AFC East playoff appearances:
Jets: 2002-04-06-09-10
Fins: 2008
Bills:
Pats only missed the play-offs in 2002 (3-way 9-7 record tie between Pats, Jets and Fins where Jets win third tie-break) and 2008 (I wonder why).
It puts the lotion in the basket.
“Mister, I got your dog!”
you sound like a butthurt seachickens fan
Chip has gone 10-6 in his first two NFL seasons. That’s pretty impressive no matter what.
He’s been given even more control over the organization every year… I don’t think he’s going to be gone after next season.
“You don’t like your contract? The one paying you 5 million a year. Get the fuck out and try to get that kind of money as an old guy coming off an injury.” More power to the Chipster. Pro athletes make me sick with the money demands. Try a real job douchebag.
Right. The best OG in the NFL doesn’t deserve to be the best paid.
But hey! Let’s pay Sam Bradford $13m next year.
Never mind that the Pro Bowler doesn’t get paid as much as his coach… who hasn’t drafted or signed a quality O-lineman in two years… and is now left with one great lineman and a bunch of pieces. Never mind that coach has yet to win any game of importance. Never mind that coach is just getting schooled on the “personnel” or GM front.
We’re talking a coach who jettison’s pro players because they don’t “buy in” to the college way. Get rid of your best WR (admittedly a prick) and wonder why your QB isn’t as efficient and your only other good WR leaves on his own following the next year.
And while most players are professional and don’t burn bridges, there have been some wild stories from those who do. Regardless, it’s pretty apparent that, bridge burning or not, players leaving are set against their former teammates. That schism is created by the coach, nobody else.
And now he has what on paper looks like a good one-deep with rookie WRs, really really expensive QBs who either break easily or can’t play… and a piecemeal O-line at best… which will lead to an injury-prone Murray probably being less productive than Shady in 2014… which was a disappointing number.
You’re calling one of the best O-linemen in the NFL a douchebag for not having a real job and wanting pay commensurate to his play. At the same time, you’re gushing respect for a fat man (hypocrite?) who is relatively paid well above his production and manages a bunch of people who don’t even have real jobs… well group-thinks them. The problem with management by group-think is that there always needs to be a fifth column. And Kelly always manages to have one on hand and one or more on the back burners.
He signed a contact and was quite happy with it. Tough shit.
Oh… I see.

Yeah… uh huh… two to tango and all that.
beavergopher,
You got a spot of jealousy on your shirt, you might want to wipe that shit off.
No jealousy at all. Just sick of pro athletes complaint about making millions doing something they would do for very little money. The Latrell Sprewell comment years back was last straw.
Sprewell ($14.6M) demands new deal: ‘Got family to feed’
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1266269/posts

Your eerily analogous secundum quid has totally changed my mind.
Eggers article on Brosius seems a bit of a tease. Headline points to MLB, but the story includes his desire to coach his son at the college level. Overall, to me, it leans toward Casey not moving to AD.
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/263501-136214-scott-brosius-eyes-mlb-coaching-job
Im surprised we havent heard more news leaked about AD candidates. Didnt Ray say he planned to have a replacement in before Bobby leaves? Only about 2 weeks to go
Yeah. The committee has met a couple times now. They have a list, and Ray just needs to meet (possibly recruit) some of the candidates, surreptitiously or not.
I don’t know about that. What Brosius is saying is that he will be a MLB coach somewhere next year unless OSU comes calling. Then he would take that job.
But that Kerry asks the question or that Brosius brings it up (assuming his son is in weekly or more frequent contact with Casey and future teammates) should mean something.
Machado tweeting that Mullaney is transferring. Can anyone corroborate this? Any more info?
Hurts the team and seems like a strange decision for him. He was starting by end of spring game, and offense seems a pretty good fit….
Rumors are out there that Richard Mullaney is transferring to bama
Andersen better nab a 4* recruit before the summer recruiting season ends. Don’t like losing Mullaney. Guess more young guys will get to grow together. 2 years from now should be the payoff. Still, winning each game you can is what matters and bowl likelihood went from close to 60% to now barely above 50% IMO. Bolden will be a beast but will Xavier Hawkins be ready to shine in the limelight? His role just got bigger. Collins also likely to get a few more designed plays where run is a preferred option and Chris Brown and Storm Woods a few more carries as well.
Beavs have great options at WR. Guyton and Jarmon are both better than Bolden, so if you like Bolden not sure what you’re talking about here. Then there is also Villamin. Gilmore is a big body who can be used in the redzone, too. Dockery was okay last year. WR is not an issue at all.
Yeah, I wasn’t that high on Mullaney in the first place… I think we have a lot of depth, even if it’s young, that I’d rather see play over him anyway.
Good points. Villamin should have a solid season. I think OSU will do what it can to get the speedsters some extra touches. Can lead to some big plays since the deep ball is unlikely to be a major factor in strategy. Jarmon I have a good feeling about but haven’t seen much of Guyton. Gilmore I will have a wait and see attitude on until he proves otherwise by steady contributions that help win games.
So did Andersen have a “playing time” discussion with Mullaney? As mentioned, his stock seemed to be rising during spring, so that’s the only thing that strikes me as a little odd. Is Alabama truly a reality or just rumor?
He’s visiting alabama sunday
https://twitter.com/jcshurburtt/status/609524575186092032
not Nebraska? Huh?
I’d say Mullaney is more of the pro style possession receiver and not so much the fast shift make plays after the short reception guy that Andersen needs.
Good chance for Dockery to make an impact. He showed flashes last year despite nagging injuries and a concussion in fall camp.
concur. Mullaney’s no great loss. He’s no Mike Hass, that’s for sure
It is a loss. He was a very solid player and while we do have a lot of younger talent, this team is not so loaded that it can be shrugged off. His problem was staying on the field.
I wouldn’t go that far. We have a lot of depth and talent at WR, but not a lot of production. Mullaney may not have ever been a superstar, but he is solid, clutch, and has demonstrable production. Worth noting – he beat out Villamin in spring practice, even though the offense wasn’t a great fit. If nothing else, think he would have brought a lot to the table as a veteran presence for a young WR corps.
Guyton has yet to see the field. Dockery and Jarmon have looked good in limited time, but they’re still relative unknowns. I see Bolden as solid but not outstanding – low ceiling/high floor. Size makes him an injury risk. Villamin has star potential but needs consistency. I was disappointed he fell out of the starting lineup in the spring. Gilmore has been very underwhelming when he’s seen the field. Barring major improvement, he should be a career backup.
I agree. We can shrug it off all we want to, but if he’s good enough to get a look from Alabama, it’s a loss. That’s not to say a younger receiver can’t seize the opportunity, but the question is always will they? Some have, some haven’t in the recent past.
Guyton and Jarmon are the two best WRs on the roster. This will pan out. Villamin is good and should put up numbers, but probably less a fit in GA’s offense. Last year many where down on Villamin for a few drops without seeing the big picture with him. Bolden should be solid, but I’ve never been a huge fan. The media made him out to be a Cooks replacement, and he was nowhere near that level. His speed is overrated. He has good speed but not elite as they made it out to be.
Oregon State senior wide receiver Richard Mullaney has elected to transfer, Beaver head coach Gary Andersen announced Friday.
“I want to thank Richard for his contributions during this coaching transition,” Andersen said. “It his choice to transfer and we will support him as he moves into the next phase of his life.”
Mullaney lettered three years for the Beavers, redshirting as a true freshman in 2011. The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native caught 83 passes for 1,160 yards and five touchdowns during his Beaver career.
“OSU and Reser Stadium will always be a special place for me and I’m very thankful of ‘Beaver Nation’ for all the support,” Mullaney said. “I also want to thank Coach Andersen for his support in my decision. I wish him and all of my former teammates the best of luck this season.”
Mullaney, who graduated spring term in human development and family sciences, is immediately eligible to play at another institution per NCAA rules.
I kind of forgot about him but it really does make sense. GA’s offense does not suit him well. I wish him look wherever he lands. He’s a hard worker who gets by with smarts and effort
These statements are always so amusingly predictable. They cover well however and I think credit is due that not much leaks from the sources with the grittier aspects of the story. I guess it doesn’t really matter because the result is the same.
Still, how about “Richard Mullaney is leaving because he doesn’t want to play on this team.”
Whoops was supposed to say from the GT
Thoughts on how this would affect OSU?
Another angle on the Mullaney transfer. Perhaps he thinks the QB situation is bad enough that he does not want to waste his last year of CFB and his last chance to get on the radar for next years draft?
Perhaps he has a crush on Lane Kiffen?
Wants to play for a CFB playoff team?
Likes fried foods?
Yeah, I had that QB thought or you could take it further and wonder if he feels that the whole season is going to be a challenge and he’s in a unique situation to get out. I’ve said before that I think many of us are overly optimistic about this upcoming season.
I agree on the optimism. It is pretty rare for a first year coach to do well. GA seems to be a pretty good coach, but the reality was that he inherited a very good senior laden team at Wisconsin. To his credit he did not fall on his face and screw it up. Well not until the B1G championship game.
The Michigan game will be very telling. They should have a very good defense, so if we can hang with them it bodes well for the rest of the season.
It’s so hard to tell how good the team will actually be. But there is a lot of reasons to be optimistic. The team will be stronger and in better shape. Offense is all there with a new dynamic qb however inexperienced. Remember we have the qb coach of the year. There is a new superior coaching staff with lots of experience. The d will be running a base 3-4 that other teams aren’t used to seeing. For these reasons I’m cautiously optimistic. It’s hard to make a judgment call at this point. But I think we’ll be competitive in most every game. Depending on how things go we could be anywhere from 4-9 wins. I look at our schedule and don’t see any teams that we shouldn’t be able to beat. I’m guessingaround 7 a few upsets r not out of reach.
I don’t think there will be much downfield passing this year somewhat due to the new offense, but primarily due to the qb’s and their lack of passing prowess. That doesn’t mean we won’t move the ball, but Mullaney is a slow possession receiver who needs time to get downfield. Good leaping ability with great hands, but not as crafty at getting open as Hass. IMO he is built to be a good secondary or slot receiver in a pro style offense. But bubble screens, quick slants, and other plays relying on YAC’s wouldn’t lead to a fruitful senior season Richard. Plus he’s one of those guys who is super injury prone. Just not a good fit.
Thanks for your hard work and good luck. Hope you have a good year, get yourself on a NFL practice squad and have a fun couple years making an easy 90k.
Andersen said that the offense would attack downfield and sideline to sideline.
I’m sure he wants to (like every other coach), but the QB is the limiting factor. Can Seth Collins or Nick Mitchell attack downfield?
I still think MyMarion gets into the mix for that reason. GA seemed to have warmed up to him, too.
The fade route comes with timing i think by the time game 1 comes around the qb that starts will be able to keep the defenses honest. Deep crossing routes on the other hand r a little harder. We do have the qb coach of the year I’m sure he’ll have at least 1 qb ready to make the throws.
That doesn’t at all sound like what almost every coach says ever… Don’t get me wrong, I believe that’s the goal. Just not putting too much faith in one of the 3 unheralded freshman Qb’s who have never played a down of college football will be capable of really slinging the rock down field in one of the toughest divisions in the country.. Optimistic but realistic as well
I think a lot will come down to protection . If we can make them feel comfortable I think they can make enough plays to win us a couple 50/50 games.
Anyone have kids or extended family members graduating from OSU today??
I do, why?
Are fans allowed to watch to camp that OSU is hosting? What goes on?
Is it even worth watching?
Sounds like it’s open to the public for viewing, although today is just elementary school kids so probably not the best day to show up. I think tomorrow is supposed to have more highschool kids and hopefully more D1 prospects. Probably only worth watching if youre totally bored and just want to see some football
GA offered a third grader. He is fully committed, but still wants to take an unofficial to Eugene to check out the swing sets and other playground equipment.
just avoid the rape van that says “free candy” on the sides
congratulations to Daniel Gomis. Graduated and received his diploma today

Very interesting, kind of sad, article about Mike Riley and how he is faring in Nebraska in the GT. I feel bad for him, you can tell how much he misses Corvallis, the lifestyle, and his friends. It’s telling that his wife Dee is still living in Corvallis. It must suck to love where you are in life, want to stay, and get pretty much shown the door and forced to leave. Clearly Riley is nostalgic for his hometown. It was time football wise, but was it time in the game of life? He’ll be back, on that I would bet.
He will definitely be back. If he had any dignity he would have retired. He’s doing Nebraska fans a disservice since his heart is in Oregon.
Who the hell would negative this comment…..is there a Duck lurking again? You should be watching another Track and Field conquest instead of wasting your time on a Beaver site.
A few Nebraska fans registered for the site….
if that’s the case, I advise them to check the archives for the Angry win-cap thread. One of the all-timers on this site. In regard to which, Husker fans, know this: how ever many you win this year, Riley will never reach it again, let alone exceed it.
there is no win cap. It’s a loss cap. That’s why many refer to him as RiLLLLey. Guaranteed at least 4 losses EVERY season. Go look at his year by year record. His 3 best years? 10-4 and 9-4
2006 – 10-4
2007 – 9-4
2008 – 9-4
2012 – 9-4
all other years were 5 or more losses. He’s 93-80 overall as a head coach in college football. Thanks Nebraska. Beaver fans appreciate it. Get used to it in Lincoln. RiLLLLey. And you can forget about EVER beating Urban Meyer or Harbaugh
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Riley#Return_to_Oregon_State
4 best years. Bad math day
Riley did go 2-2 against Harbaugh. Maybe having Jay on the team helped
Apex years for MR and Jimmy building up a horrible team at the Farm. The 2010 game was indicative of each programs direction. Remember, the 2008 upset by Furd came back to cost us the Rose Bowl.
With BDC’s resignation, it appears that Ed Ray was the driving force that set this all in motion. Every interview with MR seems to contain some sense of regret about leaving.
Catchings…(the most inappropriately named WR of all time?) with his fumble touchback. Ugh.
Let us never overlook the *two* at home losses to FCS teams.
But but but Eastern Washington is an elite FCS team! And Sacramento State, um…errr.. uh HEY LOOK A FLYING MONKEY! *points and runs*
But, but, …the article clearly states that MR is “further ahead than (he has) been in awhile (in preparing for Fall camp). Apparently he even has foregone his off-season time relaxing in Texas.
Sheesh, I had to check the byline to see if Schnell was the writer. Agree with Bill, the piece has its sad side, too bad his ego got in the way of a graceful exit. Riley seemed distracted his last few seasons with the Beavs, this story sets the basis for more of the same with the Huskers. Those poor bastards.
It’s kind of a weird comment….so your wife and/or obligations were preventing you from preparing as much in advance as you would have liked during your time at OSU? So, now that Dee is out of the picture and bunkered down in Corvallis still, you can do your job properly, huh???
Riley says the darndest things!
Dee is moving just as soon as she passes her online yoga and bowling classes.
Peko is her tutor, so it’s just a matter of time.
I agree, weird comment.
My first thought was how are you further ahead– with a new program, installing a new system (for them)–than you were with an established program that included veterans in your system, including the QB?
Mike is trying to convince himself of something or he was REALLY in a lazy cruise control here with such low expectations.
Bo Pelini had 4 losses in 6 of his 7 seasons in Nebraska. The 7th year he was fired before their bowl game (which they lost) so he only coached them to 3 losses even though the team finished 9-4.
I think he was mainly fired for his abrasive personality. He made the fans and administration hate him.
Losing 4 games a year should be manageable with the institutional advantages Nebraska has.
Losing a minimum of 4 games every year is not acceptable at NU. You say below he may show that he cares for once. I’m assuming that means putting a team on the field that looks like they came to play and gives great effort, regardless of the outcome. That was not the case here because nobody with any clout made him care since Al died.
But the worst was that he never took credit for the poor efforts. He would say “we” enough. But it was more than likely followed by “didn’t execute.” The players were always the root cause of any issues. While you may say he doesn’t get out on the field and make those plays, I say the essence of coaching is to have those who do make plays be in the right mind, the right condition and the right place through practice and repetition.
Tell me, on any level of football, have you ever seen a play like the Wazzu TD where our players wanted to do something but apparently just didn’t execute? I can say the Peyton Manning (was it him?) fake spike-to-stop-clock for a TD is the closest I can come. And the NFL made a rule change to quit that play pretty quick. That’s how egregious that kind of thing is. How bad is it when it’s not just a couple really smart ballers beating you? How bad is it when your D lines up and is still left holding their jockstraps? How much worse is it when that’s a veteran-heavy D with some solid line depth for once (even with Grimble and Tago out because of Cheap Shot Sark)… a veteran D who won nine games the year before (should have been at least 11)?
So now we have Lil’ Huskers lurking who are too gutless to post, but love hitting the negative buttons?
Looks like I hit a nerve….Angry should require the NU trolls to at least submit one 20 words or less essay as to “Why they love Mike Riley” to introduce/show themselves or they get the boot! We’re all friends here!
I think he likes living in Corvallis more than he enjoys living in Lincoln, but that doesn’t mean he liked coaching at OSU more than Nebraska.
We’ll see if this is so, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Riley that simply cares more next season at Nebraska.
If the NU offer hadnt come just at that opportune moment, he might have retired, rather than do whaterver they were insisting he do. Maybe he sees NU as a chance to show he hasnt faded away in coaching. Ego is a funny thing. IMO if he does do well this coming season, its because he walks into a situation with a team that has good, developed players. The real tale would be told in sucsequent years when he depends on players he recruits.
Allergies are funny things, too. Dee may be allergic to something grown there and not here, like some of the grain crops. Grass seed is the biggest crop here, I think, as the soil in the Willamette Valley isnt very good.
Gonna be interesting to watch…
She may have a corn allergy LOL.
Interesting to watch what? The grass grow, Dee’s sneeze, or the Shuckster coaching to 4 losses?
My brother was trying to tell me that Dee Riley had not moved because she had all these severe allergy problems and they had to find a “bubble boy” type house for her to live in. Hmmmm? Never heard about any health issues before, has anybody else?
Somewhat interesting, if true. Forestry products in Albany vs bigger city Lincoln, hundreds of trees and plants growing in Oregon vs what? in Nebraska. Riley sounds ever so lonesome. Probably a bad idea for him to come across that way in the interview. I hope he does well enough in his first year at Nebraska to gracefully get the hell out of D1 football coaching.
Has Mrs. Banker moved?
The Allergy Clinic in Corvallis has a thriving business. Allergies are worse here than anywhere I’ve ever lived. Once upon a time the Indians in the Willamette Valley called it “The Valley of Sickness”. It would be difficult to believe that allergies are worse in Nebraska.
One word, Ragweed.
I find that very difficult to believe. Linn County is the grass seed capital of the world and at times my oldest son and I are downright miserable.
Yeah… this is allergy central. And as nice a guy as MR is, I’ve never seen her (all six or seven times I’ve seen her) at a loss for wind.
Yup, when I lived in Eugene, I read where if you don’t have allergies when you moved there, you mostly likely develop them after 5-7 years anyway. It’s a catch all for the crap floating down the Willamette Valley.
Yeah I never had allergies and I grew up in the valley. I’m 41 now and the last 4 years have been progressively worse as apparently the hay fields give me asthma during the summer. Had to go get a steroid shot the other day and my oxygen saturation was at 92%.
Now that we have everyone’s medical histories, my brother undoubtedly read this on some Husker site. Where would this have come from?
Bottom line is Riley has a wife that doesn’t want to move!
Why would she? Uproot to Lincoln or stay in Corvallis? Hmm….tough choice. Especially when you can see that your spouse will get canned in his new position in three years.
A wife that doesn’t want to move? Hmmmm, had the same problem with a QB recently and, in that case, just “go with the flow” and make the best of it.
My bet is Dee will spend more time next year in Corvallis than in Lincoln. MR isn’t likely to make waves.
And you don’t go home one day out of the clear blue and tell your wife, “We’re moving honey!” No freaking way that shit flies in anybody’s marriage. She probably just said see you the hell later..
Bob, Every spouse of a college coach gets to hear that every few years. But I suppose when the spouse is in their 60’s she get’s to say eff that when the coach says they’re moving to Lincoln.
It’s probably easier to come home and drop that bombshell on your wife when you can also say, “Remember that boatload of money I bring home every year? I just doubled it”
Yeah but it wasn’t like he got fired and she could feel sorry for him and feel lucky for the new job etc. this happened over a weekend, with little to no warning. Maybe that was the plan. I had an uncle once, told my aunt he was going to the store to buy a lightbulb, and he was never seen again, ever.
I admit it, I’ve occasionally given the lightbulb defense passing thought through the years.
So you’re my nephew? What a small world.
Is that really you? So many questions…
“…Bottom line is Riley has a wife that doesn’t want to move!…”
There might be a pattern here. As I recall early in the Riley II era there was some discussion about her not liking Oregon/Willamette Valley/Corvallis and much preferring to live in So. Cal.
Espn Outside the Lines did some big investigation into criminal activity involving S/A’s at 10 “random” universities. Oregon State was lucky enough to make the list. Oregon is conveniently not included, although that would have made for some good reading. I guess theyre trying to show that s/a’s receive impermissible benefits by receiving legal aid when involved in criminal activities? Not sure if anything would ever come of this since it seems to be common practice everywhere, but thanks espn for making osu the only pac-12 program in the story. Hard to compare and contrast how they measure up to their peers.
http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/111528/otl-community-beliefs-access-to-lawyers-benefit-accused-oregon-state-athletes
Meanwhile, in swooshville, not much reported about FIFA or doping/Salazar.
They’re looking at some payments from the mid-90s. I really didn’t expect Nike to get caught for anything. But apparently they only buttoned up the paperwork clandestine side after the, “What? Child labor? We’ve never used child labor! We deny this fully…. Okay, you got us… well not us… it was our subs… yeah… it was our subs… and we’ve taken steps to correct any leaks, er, any of these egregious labor practices… besides, these little girls wouldn’t get one meal… um… three meals a day if we… our subs didn’t hire them.”
I’m kidding. They didn’t button it up as well as they thought they did.
They wanted P5 universities in true college towns. That leaves three schools in the Pac.
At least, that’s what they say.
Gee how horrible for Oregon State to provide all students (according to article) with free legal representation. Lawyers just get in the way of convictions! Obviously you wouldn’t be accused if you weren’t guilty! *eyeroll facepalm combo deluxe*
Holy crap! Apparently morons are taking this OTL study as a “Top Ten” list of violators.
http://www.si.com/college-football/2015/06/14/florida-fsu-players-avoid-prosecution-report
I can’t do anything with SI the way my filters are set up. In fact, Malwarebytes never fails to find a couple pup files every time I hit an SI link (just to copy and paste the url), as it did just now. But the tweets surrounding this headline make it sound like we’re in elite company because our cops will charge someone with 3rd Degree Looking at Me Funny and 1st Degree Being Taller Than Me along with the usual Felony Self Defense and Felony You’re an Athlete that all either disappear or get downgraded in pleas.
Having the school attorneys available is something every student gets. It’s not surprising that many “arrests” either disappear or are simply citation-worthy with the CPD running around doing its best Cord Wood.
Nothing too insightful, but here’s a prediction from something called “Saturday Blitz”. “Should only be competitive in 5 or 6 games” was the one statement that stood out for me. That’s a lot of blowouts. Predicting 4-8 season.
http://saturdayblitz.com/2015/06/14/oregon-state-beavers-football-2015-season-preview-and-prediction/5/
FWIW I’m good with that prediction. Probably the most realistic I’ve seen so far.
But I won’t complain if the football team performs as well as the basketball team did. If you know what I mean…… :-)
“an underwhelming defense”? Could be, but I’m not yet ready to buy that one.
I expect Peko, Grimble, and Tago to make some noise. Mageo, Saulo, and Songy have potential; as do Hunt, Strong, and Noland-Lewis.
Combine those guys with Andersen’s historical emphasis on D and I like the chances that this group is more than “underwhelming”. Maybe not consistent game changers, but they should keep the Beavs in some games.
Other than that, I think 4 wins is a very safe bet. Not quite ready to call for 6, but thinkin’ 4+ for sure.
Could that underwhelming thing be the result of the writer not realizing that Banker is gone?
@oneoldbeav – I’m not feeling good about Grimble because of his most recent surgery which makes me wonder if we can count on him being there for the entire season, if at all.
I saw something about him being moved to DE is that happening because of his injury/surgery?
Lots of unknowns on the D and worse yet appear to be thin at some spots.
Imo GA should be cut some slack until he has several recruiting classes behind him. So I’m good to watch and wait.
In the past I’d gotten to the point where I didn’t even bother following recruiting and just waited until the kids had actually arrived on campus. Not sure if this is good or bad but this year I am interested in recruiting again. Hopefully it won’t turn out to be as disappointing as it was in previous years.
Grimble is moving to DE partly because of his injury. But it’s because he can play at 290 and put less stress on the thing. It’s not because NT would make him more vulnerable.
You have to remember that a three man front changes the meanings of all the positions. There are no DTs. There is a NT. DEs (3 teqs) are what we used to have as DTs. Our old DEs would be OLBs (5 teqs) now.
We’ll probably see a lot of nickel packages. So that will alter the make-up of the middle three LBs.
Lazy media narrative right there. That’s the worst analysis ever.
And oneoldbeav, Hunt retired.
ooops.
BTW, what do ya think of Hollingsworth and James, listed as DE’s but maybe some OLB?
James has some potential. Not a fan of Hollingsworth’s raw ability. He’ll need to be a “high motor” guy and out effort everyone to get anything done at this level.
With Hunt retired, the CB situation is definitely dicey. DeCloud will probably be in the mix since GA signed him out of CC.
Okonkwo is a guy I find intriguing. I think he could start. The CB situation is pretty scary, though. Hunt is a huge loss.
If there’s a position that gets exploited in the pac12, it has to be corners and dbs in general. Hard to find better receivers across the board than on the west coast and offensive systems that allow them to thrive.
Someone will have to step up and they’ll have to find depth in the roster somewhere, but it’s hard to see a real dominant group emerging out of the current field.
Every campus in the conference has personnel questions to address so OSU is not unique. But when your thin in a position and don’t have much highly regarded talent to work with, sometimes bad things happen.
The coaches are competent enough to scheme protect them as best they can, and they better hope recruiting picks up in the secondary in future classes.
West coast bias. There is no logical reason why Pac 12 has better receivers than anywhere else. OSU is set at db for 2015. Offensive line quality, qb depth not so much.
The best way to hide a poor secondary is with a good pass rush. Hopefully sitake can do what he did at Utah in that regard. Who was the wideout that moved to corner Hill or something? Heard he was looking pretty impressive.
Was just thinking about the Mullaney to Alabama talk. Isnt there an SEC rule that requires graduate transfers to sit for a year? I thought that was the reason Everett Golson transferred to FSU instead of an SEC school?
Golson would have likely been denied an SEC transfer because there is a rule that stipulates if the prospective transfer has had disciplinary issues that resulted in discipline from their former team (read suspension, etc.) then a waiver is required. Apparently that sort of waiver is difficult to come by for the grad transfers, so therefore he decided that FSU was best for him.
I think I read where the SEC lifted the ban awhile back.
This thread has been up 10 days now. I still can’t think of anything to talk about….ideas?
Or should we go for the longest thread in AB history…all the way to fall camp?
The AD Search?
Supposed to have a replacement in place before Bob D steps down, but haven’t heard much about the search. Todd Stansbury’s name has floated around, but it sounds like there are a few outside candidates with no prior OSU connections. anybody hearing anything?
My thread would basically be “anyone heard any names?” because I haven’t…not much of a thread.
We can just discuss it here. Let’s go for a record!
The AD search is boring. I realize it’s a hugely important hire, but I am just not into this search. The names being floated last week didn’t excite me and some seemed like bad fits. I’d rather they just let Casey or Massari do it. I think both guys are low risk, high reward. UCSB had very good, competitive athletic department despite their small budgets.
Richard Mullaney to Alabama.
I didn’t mean make a thread about it, that was just a statement that somehow hit reply to you on accident. Sometimes iPhones are dumb
I lean Stansbury, then Casey, then Byrne, then maybe a Pro Sports assistant GM close to making GM, then Massari.
I don’t think you know much about Beaver Nation.
You could have stopped with the first three words, and we would have believed you had a clue from there.

Oregon State will host Valparaiso on Tuesday 11/24/15, source told @CBSSports. Really good RPI game for the Beavers.

Mullaney confirms he will be going to Alabama. Mullaney, you are dead to me and all Kiffin haters.
Watch Bama fans spin this into a major get.
Maybe we can spin it into a positive for recruiting?
Hey recruits, if you couldn’t get into Alabama straight out of highschool, come to Oregon State, get coached up and work hard on your academics (graduate in 3 years + a redshirt), and you will likely have a chance to transfer into Bama after graduation.
How much you want to bet if he does well at Alabama he’ll be mentioned as an Oregon transfer, and if he doesn’t, he’ll be mentioned as an Oregon State transfer?
At rollbamaroll.com Mullaney is a “huge boost” in the headline, and “pretty good”, “good get” and a “good catch for bama”.
If it’s any consolation to you, now he has to live in Alabama.
Consolation?
That’s like booing or cheering when an opposing player gets hurt.
Well, I don’t really have a problem with him transferring since he put in his time and is exercising his right. The guy I replied to seemed to be jilted though.
I feel “meh” about it… Good luck to Mullaney, but better luck to whoever replaces him!
Jalen Grimble called me last night to thank me for supporting OSU athletics. I’ve had these types of calls in the past, but it’s always been a soccer player or rower before. GA requiring his players to branch out a bit more?
By chance did you happen to ask him how the recovery is going?
Alabama fans don’t exactly sound pumped…
LennyKoz ?@ljbama22 53s54 seconds ago
We just took a white WR transfer? From Oregon St.? Dynasty Doneski
Come on dude you’re going to use one obvious losers Tweet set the pulse for the entire fan base? Obviously none of them have ever heard anything about Richy or seen him play.
The bigger issue is the lost for us. I don’t like that GA and crew let this go down. You got a guy who has been here for 5 years and has the ability to add a nice target and different look from the rest of your WR corps and you just let him bolt. and to Bama? If he’s good enough for them…
I’m dying to here the back story on this…Something feels off.
I don’t get all the hubbub over this on our end. Mullaney’s a good receiver, not great, good. He earned his degree in four years. Congrats to him for that. I question his life choices if he immediately takes his degree and chooses to play under the Fink. But I’m sure the pros outweigh the cons. And I’m sure Saban keeps the Fink under his thumb anyway.
For the player he was in HS and what he produced here, we certainly did not see the best of who he can be. We also would not see it in GA’s system. Had Riley remained, I’m guessing this would have occurred anyway… or he would have just been hurt again… in another disappointing season.
I remember two things the most about him. The good was the Utah game where he was on fire with three TDs. The bad was that one play where he squared on the curl and let a pass right through his hands and off his chest… only to bounce up and out to the DB who ran it in for a pick six.
Congrats to him for the degree and moving on. Hopefully we see him one Monday night… announcing his HS name. We have plenty of depth, some more productive than him and better suited for GA’s system.
Mullaney looked unbelievable in high school film. Unfortunately it did not translate. He was going to split time next year. That is the back story, nothing more. Unlike many football players, he can add 2 plus 2. He will leverage the Alabama trip for a good opportunity somewhere. Good for him.
What Jack said, and this…

Hey Angry, you have about as much skill running a website that you have running a football team. Your site is a disgrace to the State of Oregon.
Thanks for the compliment.
I actually think he missed the pot… unless you run as many football teams as you do websites.
And if you run the football teams none of us but the guy with the double entendre for a handle knows about, then you can’t run the websites for those teams. Or can this logic be qualitative instead of quantitative?
Either way, he says you run a football team. Now we want to know which one.
Either way, he says you run a football team. Now we want to know which one.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Ooooh!
We can get some mileage out of this guy if he can get off his back and stop flopping that tiny elbow macaroni around. I know the really weak “you shame a whole state” troll is usually indicative of some desperate soul rode hard and put up wet. But I say he’s just new and learning.
An Angry loser running an angry, nasty website. Nothing positive happens here. If you are a true Beaver, find a better use for yourself and stop hurting the Beaver Nation.
beavbutter?? beavbutter?? beavbutter??
You should try some. It’s much better than mud and sticks.
That’s the same argument I hear when I criticize the government.
Obviously it’s an awful one.
Let me simplify this for you Angry:
Beaver Nation – Good
Our national government currently – Bad
Now try to focus your what energy you have in the right direction.
BeavButter is right, Angry. You’re a disgrace and should leave Oregon immediately. Why don’t you move to California? You know, take up photography or learn to make soap. Damn you! Dam U?
Are you implying that I am a hipster? You are ignorant.
And you just proved that you are new.
Of course I’m new – so what. You just proved you are Angry’s little butt boy.
New from where? I thought all the haters already passed through.
Down by the river. And I don’t hate. I don’t get angry. I love. I love the Beavers!
He’s just late. He’s the three-legged, one-eyed dog that travels with the soldiers, sometimes wandering a day or two behind. He’s clearly not a Pollyanna. He’s not snarky like a Duck. I don’t think anyone from Bama cares enough to learn how to navigate their Commodore 64 to this site. And the Utes like to sit and stew and lash out nearer to gamedays. His crude sense of what he thinks is humor seems Midwestern. You have the misogyny, the homophobia, the idea that using a camera or making soap is something only Millennials do… the constant hatred of all that of which he knows nothing.
He’s funny in ways he doesn’t even know he’s funny.
Nice to see you elevating the discourse you complain about with phrases like “Angry’s little butt boy”
“Nothing positive happens here”. Much like in your parents bedroom. Your dad should’ve pulled out sooner nutbutter.
You know… I was trying to be funny. But what you write is mean and hurtful. I now have to go back and rethink the whole of my existence, my experiences, my philosophies.
Done.
You’re just so dead on right. Nothing positive has happened here since you’ve shown up, so it must follow that nothing positive happens here at all. Never mind that allowing a self-proclaimed vaginal discharge such as yourself to have a voice and giving you the freedom to express it however your momma told you to do it are the most positive things that can be had on these here interwebs. But you didn’t even have to pay anything to do it.
But please, please, PLEASE come up with better material. You’re already a bore. Pankey’s mom was more fun than you.
My freedom to express was paid for long ago.
By many of us here you lying sack of shit.
No it wasn’t. You don’t have the balls to hold your head high enough to speak to truth. You’re just a pea near a brain wanting to pretend he has a willy. You’re a “Hey! Look what I can do,” wannabe. You wouldn’t know honesty, honor, truth or freedom if they all slapped you upside the head repeatedly. You’re just foul-minded chickenshit keyboard jockey hiding behind some pretend persona. You could be a Duck, a Shuckster, a Ute or, now I guess, a relative genius in Bama. I don’t care. You’re an idiot and a liar.
Nothing you say is or can be construed as true because of the way you express yourself. So you can sit there
He may be new, but did him finish high school?
Yes him did. I had a little help from your Mom.
Well then keep pushing for that $15 an hour fryboy! You certainly deserve it
Pretty sure he’s not a Duck.
But he could be from Nebraska. His “insults” are dated and harken to a day when goshdarnit was a bad word.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBeSjtU-7AI
Resorting to cartons to express yourself is fitting for this cartoonish excuse for a website.
It is.
Too bad you will never know the power they hold.
Animation and comics have quite the social and cultural history, unfortunately lost on many
First time I saw butt spelled b-e-a-v…
Here is the deal on Mullaney. He is good but Alabama has 2 dozen guys as good. He does have Gary Andersen’s playbook. This playbook was handed down from Urban Meyer. Nick Satan will pay anything for this bit of intelligence.
Hey Angry, your posters are a special kind of stupid.
much like you we came out of the same vagina
leave out the beaver in my username and we are left with what you came out of. HAHA you angry lover boy.
That was brilliant. It would have taken us years to come up with something so wonderfully… um… wonderfully… er… mundane.
Pull my finger.
I will, just take it out of angry’s ass first please.
Dammit. You sooo spoiled my joke.
You’re just too good. How will I ever defeat someone of your intelligence? Certainly words won’t work.
Words always work, but at levels you will never understand.
I’m surprised you understood that nuance. But then I did try to dumb it down for you.
And understanding a negative is quite easy. Understanding why people like you choose to remain mired in the negative is the puzzle.
Nuance – see, words always work. Now I understand you completely.
You understand what I allow you to understand.
Jack, you come across as an angry psycho.
No.
You don’t get to be nice to me now.
Seriously? That’s the best you could come up with son? Go back home and play with your dolls.
Were there any live births in your family? You know…where the baby lived and the afterbirth didn’t?
Angry, this might be off topic, or a good idea for a new thread. But I thought you would be interested. I asked Mark Massari on Twitter @BennysGotMyBack Are there plans in place to improve the gameday atmosphere @Reser_Stadium? New songs on PA, and from @OregonStateBand? Etc? He responded that Sara Elcano (Assistant A.D. for sports marketing at OSU) on Twitter: “@Sara_Elk1 runs this show for us–we are committed to #BetterGameday across in every area-send us your thoughts!” So, there you go http://www.angrybeavs.com readers, send Sara Elcano your ideas and requests to help improve the game-day atmosphere for Reser Stadium. Use #BetterGameday to get it trending.

poser
That’s not a bad idea for a thread, actually. They need to make a lot of improvements.
1. Deflate the helmet.
2. Ditch the chainsaw
3. Clean Benny’s suit.
That would solve 90% of the problems.
4. Take the jack-boots off the rent-a-cops
I’ve met Sara Elanco before. I’m not here to call her out, but I have to say, for a person in charge of Marketing and improving game-day atmosphere, I didn’t sense much enthusiasm for Oregon State athletics coming from her. Maybe it was a bad day, (so take this with a grain of salt) but she had a very “Mike Riley” attitude I felt. Could be that Mike just infected the people he worked with, and GA has changed that attitude since he’s been here.
I feel like people in charge of marketing an athletic department need to not only display a love for their product, but that love really needs to shine when they’re in public, representing their brand. Instead, the impression I was left with was more along the lines of “Welcome to Oregon State…..meh…….”
Beavbutter’s IP checks to Chattanooga, TN, if that means anything to anyone.
Anyway, if you don’t like the site, just don’t read it, or continue to bash me. I really don’t give a fuck either way.
Damn, not anywhere close to Nebraska, uh.
Your piece of shit website needs bashing. Nothing positive here.
Alright, so bash it. Let me know when you’re done so I can say goodbye.
Is it 3:15am there? Maybe you should get some sleep and resume bashing it tomorrow. You know, so you’re sharper and all.
Oh, so you think time is material when it comes to exposing your dumbass.
“Damn, not anywhere close to Nebraska, uh.”
HA! Brofus thinks immobility is the hallmark of them college ejumicated people. I didn’t think he was that dim.
Jack, you don’t seem properly educated.
Grow up junior. You’re the one insisting on acting like some pissant with an idea.
Well I do have an idea goshdarnit. Things are looking up for Beaver Nation and there is no need for all this whining that this website is built on. Be strong, Be Beavers!
You just can’t not be stupid. You, kid, are just unbelievable.
LOL!! …dang, I almost missed all the BeavButt go-round! Its gotta be a joke, or maybe he’s like 7 yrs old. ….be strong, be BEAVERS! Lmao…good stuff! Thanks, kid…
It was some of the corniest dumbshit stuff I’ve seen in a while. I half expected him to try and pee in the Wheaties this morning. He must be sleeping it off. Sleep is overrated… unless you have a hammock in the shade… in the weather we’ve had for the last week.
But then, this is the kind of stupid one would expect from a state where they rioted because they were upset the Fink was leaving for USC.
Yes, besides finding them beating out WV, Bama and Miss for any number of top ten lists like misery, health, stupidity and overall “worst” states, they also cried over the Fink while everyone in the Pac was doing the old prospector’s dance.
I wish the Fink was still here. He was such a stupid little runt.
That’s making me flashback to the Be Beaver Bold quack NCG football rooting party at the MU.
smh
Tennessee? No wonder he’s so angry. I’d be upset too if I had to live in that shithole while married to my sister, mom or cousin. Poor nutbutter. Born without a silver spoon. Or teeth. Or an IQ above as many fingers that fit inside his mom. Or employed dad. Sigh
Your words flow so well that I can actually smell what you are.
Well… mileage turned out to be scratching and clawing for inches. I’m supposing it was monumental in his mind.
Conforto doing well:

Good for him. Congrats!
So Connor writes something about the open hoops ship. But he says nothing. That one’s not even worth the link. But there are some interesting directions Tinkle can go.
http://insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/insider/story/_/id/13097918/could-jamal-murray-missing-piece-kentucky-2016-title-college-basketball
Murray could do anything. But I think the most likely scenario is that he classifies to 2015 and UK alums pay him more than Nikegon alums do. That being said, there are any number of similar students all over the world who could classify a year ahead. There are even some who can play this year but are still looking. UNM just picked up a Euro big. But it’s not just Euro or Canuck anymore. Looking west is also a big option.
Anyway, did someone here mention Alonzo Walker some time back? I thought I heard a quick blurb or saw a short tweet about a possible visit.
I saw that. Didn’t I read recently that Gomis had decided to leave?
Could it be that I’m messed up like pour new buddy buttbutter? errr, don’t answer that….

I ran across this word the other day in case anyone is really struggling:

That be French.
I want my two dollars.

@cj
Robbins is gone but as far as I know Gomis is returning. He’s still on the roster and I can find no mention of him leaving.
That’s good. I guess it was the article about his graduating and the choice he had either returning or starting a career. For some reason I thought he had later changed his mind. Glad he didn’t.
I thought Connor’s chart was useful. Probably only because I don’t follow MBB as closely as many here.

what’s with all of the NCAA football in Australia talk?

Gina up with a piece on Baldwin. In discussing the TE’s he mentions “the VanderVeen kid”, says he is now at 238. No mention of Tanner Sanders, but he does comment on Nall, Clute, and Smith.
Sounds to me like Baldwin was not impressed with Mullaney, “We’ve got talent, and there’s a reason maybe why he left, then, because there is talent.”
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2015/06/qa_with_oregon_state_beavers_o.html
Interesting comments about the running backs, basically calling them out as not being tough enough, and hoping the JC transfer can be the go to guy.
I’m not real impressed with Baldwin’s comments re Mullaney’s transfer. I won’t be surprised if he ends up providing opponents with bulletin board material.
Regarding the AD search:
http://collegead.com/athletic-directors/
He’s done considerably more work there in a short time than he will need to do here. And it would be a considerable bump in salary at even 80% of Bobby D’s rate.
Brent VanderVeen is 245 now and counting, Saw him on his break this week . Kid is looking bigger and excited to get some playing time….
Can we make it to 500 comments?
Yes
“No comment.”
I’ll second that.
D’oh! Coach Baldwin is talking about “finding an identity” I cringe.
No, it’s not so bad. We are all just a little gun shy whenever we hear “identity”. Here’s what he said in the Oregonian: “We’ve got to go into games and feel how we can execute and where that quarterback’s gonna come (on) and we’ll develop an identity. I don’t want to lose the identity of being able to run the football and be physical. If you can’t do those things, you can’t win football games. Even though we want to throw the ball for a ton, you’ve still got to be physical and run the football.”
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2015/06/qa_with_oregon_state_beavers_o.html
Honestly you guys are making too big of a deal about the establishing an identity thing. It just seems nitpicky.
To some degree teams to develop a culture and new players become a part of that. There are teams that run the same system year in and year out, they don’t wait until week 5 to say they’re going to play smash mouth football at Wisconsin, for example.
I think that’s what O_S is saying. He plays with the knee-jerk overreaction to the word itself then provides a quote which clears it up.
Our identity will be a physical running team. With everyone being so young and new (including coaches and system), we won’t know how the blocks will stack up in this coming season. As the coaches bring in more and more of the players who fit their vision of identity and work more and more with established players, it will be much easier for them to see who the team is and what they should do to enhance that base identity.
You can’t blame us for running and hiding behind shrubberies when we hear that word, though. We did just go through a decade of Riley. Finding our identity was hoping to see a 3rd and 4 be something other than a drag route run two yards deep.
2 lineman put Oregon State in their top schools list tonight. Toleafoa Auwae and Paco Perez. Both would be good gets.
Also, seeing more talk on twitter that Stansbury is going to be the AD hire, fwiw.
Angry,
Mark Massari is wanting feedback from Beaver Nation regarding a #BetterGameday experience.
Here’s what he said on twitter this morning:
https://twitter.com/bennysgotmyback/status/611530691960901632
Our Athletic Department will listening to us, now it’s time for us to respond.
He seems pretty chipper for a guy who didnt get the head AD job. Maybe he’s planning to stick around in his current role? Or maybe he’s just hoping Stansbury doesnt bring in his own associate AD?
Better concessions products and better access to them… understand that the west side limits a lot of that right now… so bathrooms and public facilities regarding that side are moot for now.
Opening Truax was a good start. Now connect it to the stadium via the practice fields. Put up big screens. Get the bouncy house stuff off the plaza and put it on the fields. Have a family area with shade/cover. Put a beer garden out there with normal pub grub, but don’t kill us with the $10 brats. And allow unfettered traffic between the stadium and that area to ticket-holders.
I think the scoreboard has been rightfully hammered enough. Move the damn ads. Do what professional teams do. place those ads where TV cameras will pick them up. The retaining walls behind each bench would be an easy fix. There might be NCAA restrictions on ad placements within stadiums or within a certain proximity to the field. So this might not be realistic.
STRONG STRONG WiFi. OSU seriously needs to amp up the Visitor Wireless. This one isn’t really a gameday thing, except it does affect gameday experience. This is also where OSU and Corvallis have dropped the ball. There should be a public WiFi in that town in conjunction with the school. And the school should have the capability to amp it up during expected high usage periods. One way of diminishing that strain would be to allow data relays on top of the stadium for anyone wanting to just use their own interfaces.
And if a visiting school’s band wants to play over our band, kindly ask them to leave.
Masari announced today that we’re getting a new vendor this year to run the show in Reser. Of course, they’re the vendor that got booted from the Rose Garden up in Portland, but still an improvement.
Also, didn’t they move the bounce house stuff to the practice fields already? It’s not in the plaza anymore.
I suggested replacing the chainsaw sound with a blast from a train. Beavers don’t need chainsaws anyway. And anybody who has lived on or near campus can relate to the sound of a train blasting it’s horn.
Mark Massari ?@BennysGotMyBack 4h4 hours ago
@beaverathletics is moving on #BetterGameday for #BeaverNation: new food partner @LevyRestaurants debuts this year. Levy had @ModaCenter/RQ
Train whistle is decent. Why not just a work whistle? If you’ve ever lived near a mill, you know what I mean. It’s probably the same thing.
Work whistle would be good too. Blue collar.
Just think the train whistle could be very specific to OSU if they just walked down to the crossing by Gill and recorded one of the actual trains on campus.
Maybe include the railroad crossing bells in the recording, as in you will not be crossing the line on 3rd down
Essentially a shortened version of this
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GA3XB7eJwFQ
Maybe we should get an old steam engine like the one in Avery. We can bring it to Gill on the tracks and lift it off and into place over in the plaza. Then we can paint it orange and call it… um… call it… I don’t know what we would call it.
IIRC, Kansas runs a work whistle to signal class times. That’s the only place I remember that doesn’t do bells or reveille.
C’mon Jack. Think of a name. Express yourself
Angry- New AD Thread! Stat!
This is awkward. Bob DeCarolis is introducing Todd Stansbury, his successor right now at the Valley Football Center. First pic from the introduction.

I love that pic.
I don’t think this is too awkward for Bobby D. Todd’s his guy, a part of his legacy. And he will take this point in time, which seems like a high point for him, and make it even better… as opposed to wiping it away or crushing it or neglecting it altogether.
LOL That’s some picture.
Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out bobby.
LOL. Is that a real pic or photoshop?
Who cares? It’s just good.
P.S. waht do you think? when was the last time you saw him with his arms above the table in a presser?
And since you bring it up, look for color, texture, tone and clarity differences along demarcations.
