Todd Stansbury — Oregon State AD

525

I need you guys to sell me on this one.

To me it looks like OSU afraid to leave their comfort zone.

Stansbury’s quote:

“Karen and I have spent a large part of our lives at Oregon State and we look forward to returning to Corvallis. Without a doubt, we will be Knights fans from the West Coast.”

I mean that could be a Riley quote…once he is fired from Nebraska.

I’m not for or against Stansbury…just confused. Why keep bringing guys back (Massari, Stansbury)? Seems like Massari would have been the better hire of those two since USCB was a more difficult job and there’s more continuity (e.g. Do we know if Stansbury and Andersen have ever even met?). I’m not against him. I don’t even know anything about him. It’s just puzzling since there’s a guy in Massari who seems equally qualified, based on the credentials I’ve read, and is already there. I also don’t like this idea of bringing back guys from the old guard. Is this a move to appease certain donors, or is it truly the best hire? Sell me.

  1. I’ve read he’s supposed to be a good funds raiser. With all of the talk of donors withholding money during Riley’s regime, might be good to have someone in place who is able to get them to open their wallets. That’s all I’ve got though. Never paid much attention to college AD’s, except when they’re doing a poor job.

  2. I guess one thing we could do is determine how good sports have been in UCF during his tenure, though I neither have the time nor care to worry about it. To me an AD for OSU simply needs to keep the ship right because pretty much the biggest problems have sorted themselves out with Bobby D’s departure being the last part. If we keep Massari on board for at least 1-2 years I’d say we have a good team going until Massari bolts for a position of equal or better value.

As long as the guy can enforce the high expectations from President Ray and can finish fundraising projects then I won’t have a problem with this. I would argue that this is a much easier job to walk into..if we still had Riley’s polarizing lame duck contract to contend with then I’d be more concerned.

    • I looked into UCF sports…they were good, but they changed conferences during that time. Conference USA was awful. The AAC is a bit better.

      But my big questions are:

      1. Who did he directly hire that’s contributed to any UCF success
      2. How much money did he raise?
      3. Do we know he gets along with Casey, Andersen, Tinkle, Rueck, et al?

Massari seemed to be a fit with all the coaches, and many said he was involved in much of the behind the scenes work getting GA hired and other changes…so I don’t see how this guy is an upgrade?

      • My take for what it is worth…

Massari is similar to BD when he first came to OSU. He has not been front and center interacting with the big donors during OSU booster functions like others are. I personal don’t know him and had to ask people about him.

The top two candidates were to meet with ER and some of the OSU coaches (will not list them here). But I can say that everyone is on board with this hire.

        • They are all on board. Stansbury was interactive with the coaches during his stay. Massari, from what I heard, was a little abrasive toward them in his first go-round… no complaints in his current stint. But Massari is more of a “man behind the scenes” type of person. He’s not strictly a bean-counter savant. He has good, solid, safe ideas and an ability to be instantly critical of anything resembling a flight of fancy. By that last sentence, I mean to say he can find the financial faults like I can do math in my head. Then he can use his experience to sidestep those faults within an goal’s endgame. If it can’t be done, he will say so. SOmetimes he says so a little too… um… bluntly. I like him for that alone. He’s not a foil. He’s a realist in a land of games.

Bobby D pretty much just ignored the game until it pinged him.

Stansbury was probably the biased target of this search in the first place. So it wasn’t really a suspenseful search.

  3. Like the hire. UCF is largest public university by enrollment in Florida and he was very well regarded there. Most of Beaver Nation like his personality and he seems to have good presence and be able to implement a vision for success. Plenty of work to do with Reser Stadium and also is a good fundraiser.

  4. ” I also don’t like this idea of bringing back guys from the old guard. Is this a move to appease certain donors, or is it truly the best hire? Sell me”.

My gawd, you are one whiney ass.

    • Butter-

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.

Oops. Too late for you. If only you could..I don’t know, articulate an argument to the contrary of Angry’s opinion I might have respect for you, but you’re just a troll and therefore the lowest form of life on the Internet. I’m sure you’ll say something derogatory retort about my mother or similar low intelligence induced insult you can put together.

      • The sun is shining on Beaver Nation. President Ray showing outstanding leadership and making great personnel moves. No need for whiners in Beaver Nation. This website should change the name to AngryEyores.com, ya bunch of whiners.

        • No need for whiners in Beaver Nation.

          Again… irony.

Whining is the only thing you’ve done since you got here sunny. And, like a sunny, you can be grabbed by simply dangling a shiny hook a foot under the water.

          • Never understood why some folks hate criticism. They are very insecure, maybe?

The fact is, that the world is not perfect, and no system in it is perfect. Thus there is always room for improvement. How do you find the specifics that could be improved or need improvement? By voicing criticism. Surely looking for improvement in any system is a noble endeavor.

Thus voicing criticism, whining if you will, is … noble. (lol)

          • He doesn’t hate criticism. The only thing he’s doing is criticizing. He’s a troll. I just don’t think he understands this is a place where trolls are welcome and played with like candy. We need fuel, and he’s a tool to get it for us.

He’s not very good at providing clarity through clever trolling, as he’s just a run of the mill… well… he sucks upstairs. But his presence, as shallow as it is, provides introspective thought on our parts.

I just wish he were a smidge funny. There are so many riffs waiting for a real troll.

  5. I was hoping Casey would get the job not because I thought he was the best candidate, although he might have been, but because that would mean OSU would get a new baseball coach.

          • Based on the comments on this board it sounded like Casey didn’t use his players very effectively this year. I haven’t been pleased with the way he uses his pitchers for years and by that I mean (IMO) he let them throw too many pitches before taking them out. So, again based on what has been said on this board about the players and about Brosius, I’m left thinking that Brosius (or someone else), along with a new staff, would be an improvement. BWDIK

          • Another item that has me thinking that OSU baseball could benefit from a change is this quote in an article about Moore (College or pro? Moore has options)
            http://registerguard.com/rg/sports/33162157-81/college-or-pro-moore-has-options.html.csp

“…Moore credited much of his success this season to adding a change-up that he learned from Texas A&M coach Rob Childress while playing last summer on the USA Baseball Collegiate National team…”

I take that to mean the OSU coaching staff is incapable of helping their players develop their skills to the fullest and the responsibility for that has to lie at the feet of Casey.

Yes, he’s likely a hall of fame coach and has done great things for OSU baseball but could it be better? Obviously it could be worse but is that a reason to not make changes? That kind of argument/logic was used by the Riley faithful.

Perhaps it’s just a matter of him not having the funds to hire assistants who are capable of teaching a pitcher how to throw a change-up. Perhaps he’s like Riley and won’t replace his assistants. Perhaps…..

          • It’s just occurred to me that Brosius’s son is a pitcher and if my concerns about Casey letting his pitcher’s pitch count get too high was a problem then Brosius probably wouldn’t let his son play for Casey.

  6. UCF is not only the biggest school in Florida. It’s one of the largest in the country, graduating an average of 15,000 kids per year. The football team has the highest GSR of any public university in the nation at 95%. Their athletics revenue is #56 in the NCAA, behind OSU at #50. That’s pretty damn good for a non-P5 school. Across all sports, they have the best record against P5 schools of any non-P5 school for the last two years running. They built a boutique football stadium on campus less than a decade ago… in Florida… in the South… where football is king… I think. So I don’t know what that means now that the Big 12 is making noise about finally not becoming the Big 12-2. But they are located in the pizza capital of the US. So there’s that.

Stansbury himself is a hot name. That should mean nothing in terms of how smart the hire is. But it does mean that he is well-regarded by everyone in the game. The UCF fans are rather zen about him leaving (so far). I see that as a good thing. He set their expectations higher than they previously thought they could achieve. And he did so in a way that they didn’t expect him to be the one who had to lead them there. He does have a rather electric personality and a vision that “normal” people would think was a little eccentric. But nothing he proposes is without reason. He was thought of well here and at UCF by coaches, players and alumni. And he knows how to ask for money without holding out his hand.

Hiring someone familiar with OSU and its potential future is just a bonus. Stansbury would have been getting a P5 AD job soon enough without us snatching him up. In fact, I’m really surprised Cal went with Williams over him. That was odd. He must have just repeated the statement, “I’m not Barbour,” every day all day during his interim status.

Regarding Massari, it looks like he may get to be the next AD at OSU… interim… for a month. He didn’t have to run a football program at UCSB. And that is the biggest headache there is in the AD job. Outside the top 60 or so football programs, every other football program in college sports is a money pit. While UCSB does well in the sports they do play, they work under the UC mandate that sports are for the good of the student community, not for the ledgers. Massari is more of a facilitator than he is a leader.

  7. OSU is in the midst of a $42 million expansion of the Valley Football Center that will begin following the 2015 season. Though De Carolis orchestrated the completion of more than $180 million in facilities improvements, including at least 10 new buildings, the Beavers have areas of need. The “old” west side of Reser Stadium must be upgraded to match the east-side improvements. And Gill Coliseum could use a makeover, at least to the inner bowl, to keep pace with Pac-12 counterparts.

I’m more concerned with the outside of Gill. What are the options? It is ugly. Cover it with trees/vines? I wish they could somehow redo the outside. Short of that I’d like to see it torn down and a new arena. Gill is very dated, in a bad way.

    • Gill’s not bad. The trees on each of the east corners actually detract from its architecture. Besides that, it needs a marquis and an entrance plaza to replace the broken concrete. To add some green back to that side, native honeysuckles can be planted and groomed up the stairways on either side. There is only one native honeysuckle, and it happens to bloom orange. It’s not evergreen. But it would be full, sun-hardy and non-invasive to the structure… and really good looking for eight months of the year… simply spectacular from May to July. I was told it was not a full sun plant, rather a woodland one. But I have one that is about a 15′ fountain where it gets hit with sun all day, and it loves it.

The inside needs new lights, center scoreboard and sound… and enough people to force concessions to open up on the upper north side dammit.I can’t fit in the chairbacks, so they’re just a nuisance to me. I like bleachers and the old school feel for a hoops facility.

      • Btw, that honeysuckle (orange trumpet), is a hummingbird magnet when in bloom then a finch magnet when it berries. I have a bunch of blueberries underneath it, which shades the roots. And because of the berries I also give it a good cover with an acidic mulch (4″ minimum). So I probably have a happy plant because of those two things. I’m sure there’s someone at OSU who knows a little more about htis than me and can consult on such a project.

  8. Can anyone answer these questions?

    1. Who did he directly hire that’s contributed to any UCF success
    2. How much money did he raise?
    3. Do we know he gets along with Casey, Andersen, Tinkle, Rueck, et al?

  9. The more I look into Stansbury, the more I see how well-regarded he is and all the good things at UCF. I hope he does well for OSU, though I am nervous about him having worked with so many of the coaches in the past.

  10. i have a new fight song for angry’s whiny little site:

    it is not timely
    this song of angry
    the age of whiny
    is past

    it would have rhymed
    in a different time
    but that is over
    at last

    Now Be Beaver Strong
    Whining Does Not Belong

    • Have a cigar is a pretty cool song… if it would ever get there… after all those conveyor belt sounds. It’s a lot like Rock and Roll Band, only they weren’t just another band out of Boston.

Wish You Were Here was by far Badfinger’s best album.

      *snicker*

Waters really starts to get tedious with his “my father was a fucking war hero, and I’m twisted because of it,” storytelling. Floyd was never great musically beyond the same simple chords any bar band plays on a Saturday. No offense to the three or four bar bands out there that prove me wrong.

What was once great with those guys was their story. If you want the best of Floyd (and don’t want to spend another dime one them), just go get Animals and be done.

      • If anyone wants to address this, know that I first heard WYWH immediately before I heard Final Cut. Both are just blech that makes me want to drink myself to oblivion.

I guess that and pop-country are why Budweiser still has a market.

      • Yeah, not a huge fan of the music either, but I like the vocal on Have a Cigar…it’s quite bluesy.

I’ve moved on to Hound Dog Taylor.

        • It’s the lyrics and the timing combined with the synched bass. Waters is not a great voice. But he has a certain tortured quality to his sound that resonates in a song where he’s just railing on the music industry (could be any industry, I guess). They were much better when they had Syd, but they were so raw in concept and style. I’m sure critics will pan Ummagumma nowadays. But it is the essence of Floyd. Take away the poignant Orwellian commentary of Animals, and you’re left with a bunch of “George Winston Plays Prog.”

      • Do you think time is blah blah blah… or whatever he said in the other thread?

He did say something about it, but it was so dumb and insignificant.

Dammit! We need better trolls here! The intelligentsia of Tennessee suck sour eggs and drool on themselves if this is what y’all call “not a moron.”

Sorry beavbutter. I had to call a friend from Tennessee to see if this was typical of even the dumbest (relatively speaking) fuck-ups from your region. You are actually not the dregs of that area. So good for you.

  11. Todd Stansbury is the right person to lead OSU athletics. I think he’ll do a fantastic job! We want somebody who wants to be at OSU, not just jump ship before all of the important rebuilding projects are completed. It speaks volumes that all of the coaches approve of this hiring as well. Now, all of our concerns, bitching, moaning, and “whining” will be meaningless if we don’t bring our ideas and new vision for OSU athletics to the proper avenues, change won’t happen. For years readers/posters on this site have been calling for change. Now we have that change, and the attention of the entire athletic department. They are asking for our feedback, ideas, and I suggest we do something about it, or forever hold our peace. If you’re a Twitter user, use #BetterGameday in your responses. If not, wtf? (just kidding. To each his own) Create an account and follow Beaver Athletics and @BeavRecruiting You can also contact Mark Massari or Sara Elcano via email.

    • Sincerely, good work Oregon_State. Stansbury and fans like you will help create a great game experience. It’s not that hard really, it already is in many ways. But yeah, kill the balloon beaver thing.
Now , I have to finish my song.

    • Ummm… without mentioning your canned righteousness… it’s all here… oops.

It takes no effort. Read all of it. Take the good. Cut the bad. Do whatever. It’s not like some of these ideas haven’t been suggested before… to an AD who laughed at, dismissed or played off as fancy those of us who even suggested something… online or in person.

  12. With deference to Pink Floyd, I give you my song about Angry –

    how i wish,how i wish you weren’t here

    your’e just a loser soul
    drowning in a beaver bowl
    in pasts years

    stumbling around Reser field
    with a mission unfound
    bitch your not here

    did you expect
    a walk in the park
    for messing with beavers
    in a cage

    the teeth on a rail
    the beaver can tell
    Your not here

  13. It is a shame that OSU has been slimed by this piss ant of a website. For some reason, this loser/whiner has been able to garner attention and to somehow be a source of beaver sports information.
I implore Beavers everywhere, don’t let let this punk ass speak for Beaver Nation. It is a new day in Corvallis. Bring your A game and kick Angry to the curb!

Thank you, Thank you very much.

  14. Surprised nobody has mentioned the intriguing and moderately successful arm wrestling career that Satnsbury had in the 80’s & 90’s.

  15. Connor reports “10 facts” about Stansbury, says he developed “Beavers w/o Borders”. Also lists the 10 of OSU’s current 17 coaches who he has previously worked with (including Rueck).

Connor left Casey off of the list and then turns around and puts up a story on Casey’s reaction, where he gets it right…that Casey did, obviously, also work w/Stansbury.

  16. UCF “athletic revenue is #56 in the NCAA, behind OSU at #50” also “UCF is not only the biggest school in Florida. It’s one of the largest in the country”

Is the former a result of the latter or a result of something in particular Stansbury did?

Reaching into the pockets of a large alumni base is something, but reaching into the pockets of a traditionally miserly base may be more difficult.

Regardless, the decision is made, now we have to wait and see. If we can get more perks like popcorn and lost and found we’ll know we’re on the right track.

    • The former is a result of the latter. But it is only so because of the efforts of Stansbury in the last couple years. And it will get better for years to come because of both. UCF is still a relatively young school. Its first graduates are just now reaching retirement age. And the vast numbers only grew to that size within the last couple decades.

I agree that the vast base that can be contacted allows for great growth in donors. But targeting the right donors for the right programs is another thing altogether. UCF has done a great job of educating people who otherwise would not have had the chance. But the way financing is set up these days (not free or deeply subsidized like it was for our parents), most alums have to pay off a mortgage before they can afford to start giving.

  17. Ok Clones: You are now the new Athletic Director Todd Stansbury at OSU athletics, what would YOU do now that you are in charge?

    • One thing I would change is move all of the RVs for tailgating into the main parking lot of Reser Stadium. I would include RV parking with certain season ticket packages, help increase revenue as well as moral with the fanbase. Being across Highway 34 is such a hassle. At the very least build a pedestrian bridge over the highway.

    • ok, seriously…. lets see…

Put sound reflective materials on all surfaces of Gill….get it just fucking deafening in there!

Put a chain on the chainsaw, get some interesting….incidents. Maybe have a dummy with the opposing team uni on it, that can be cut up… and saws for all the cheer leaders, yeah!

Get a costume for Benny Beav that makes him almost lethal to look at.

A giant beaver head to run thru, scrap the helmet.

And yeah, move the tailgating area to the main parking lot.

    • I’m O.K. with them saying that it was tough for RILEY to get recruits to come to Corvallis cuz for the most part it was. Think of the times when he had nearly all walk-ons as his starting OL, etc. etc.

      • We still don’t know if it was hard for Riley to get recruits or hard to recruit. By year 3 of Andersen we will know. We do know baseball and basketball (and women’s basketball, gymnastics, and wrestling, though I don’t follow those closely) have had no problems recruiting. We also seem to agree Andersen recruited better looking prospects than Riley, and in just a few weeks this past cycle.

And on the flipside, Nebraska is still considered a historic program (for some reason…they haven’t been relevant much for almost 3 decades). We need more data before we acknowledge Corvallis was the problem. I can’t imagine that’s true based on other coaches at the school getting top recruits. If so, you’d have to explain to me why football players are different than all the other athletes out there.

There is also some buzz around Riley because recruits bought the National story that Riley is great…let’s see how many he keeps if Nebraska wins 7 games. If Riley turns out to win 10 games and sign top 25 classes year after year and Andersen sucks then obviously we’ll have to rethink things. There’s a long way to go before that, and honestly I think the odds of it are close to 0.

        • Top 25 recruiting classes only mean so much when you’re coaching against Meyer and now Harbaugh. NU fans are thinking of a return to national championship relevancy. If that happens under MR, I will need to rethink my whole world!

        • Riley stepped into that top 25 recruiting class, he didnt generate it. And imo he wouldnt have had those mediocre late-tenure years we had to experience, if he is so great. Maybe he can suck it up and put out, at NU, but I doubt it. If the energy is gone, its gone.

Its going to be interesting to watch. But I think that whatever happens at NU, we are now in a better place than with a low energy Riley.

          • What else are they going to think? Do you understand the expectations at Nebraska? Riley has a grace period for sure, but in the end, it’s about competing for national championships EVERY year. They have no choice but to believe MR will get them there, no matter how delusional that belief actually is.

    • Yeah, I don’t get the general Duck obsession with Beav football, it’s like they got a scare there for awhile when the teams were about even and they won’t be happy until the Beavs go 2-10 every year. I think they’re a little uneasy about the possible positives that GA may bring for the long term. They knew what they had in Riley.

        • I read a bit further into Manson’s blog and was most impressed with his entry on Minimalism. I became a minimalist 7 years ago, (not to the Manson or Jack Reacher extent, I stil have my boat in Newport) and I can tell you that Manson is right, getting rid of 90% of my crap had a most liberating result. I pared it down to my fishing gear, my truck and one closet. I decided that when I die, I don’t want my kids having to go through all my old useless shit and deciding what to toss. I no longer keep stuff I don’t need, if I could convince my wife to do the same I might have something.

If I ever need a lightbulb I know where to go…

          • Yes, I’ve been a minimalist my entire life. It’s great. It doesn’t mean you don’t have anything. It just means you don’t have useless crap. Moves should be easy, too. Like 1 small Uhaul at most, but ideally everything in a car. When I moved out to CA I used one Honda Accord, and it wasn’t nearly full. It would be awesome if people stopped competing for the most crap (is keeping up with the Jones still a thing? — seems so dated and lame) and instead for who has the least crap/most efficiency.

          • Convincing the wife is the hard thing. I don’t know why half the shit she buys is bought sometimes. Maybe she really needs something for next year’s spring garage sale and is just planning ahead?

          • Some folks go to all the trouble of building a maze somewhere on their property. I don’t need to build one because all I have to do is walk through all the crap my wife has purchased/inherited, etc..

        • Good read, thanks for posting. Frankly, shouldn’t we follow that advice about Ducks fans (and probably sports in general)?

        • Does anyone here read or post anything on Duck sites? I could care less. I enjoy taking the occassional Duck shot within the friendly confines of here. I swear when i used to read O-Live, there were more Ducks than Beavers on the Beaver pages. I don’t get it.

        • SInce his twitter setting is probably set to gather tweets about OSU news, I would say it’s a little hard to find this kind of stupid regarding Nikegon. If you want to go looking for some, you can link them here. I’m sure you’ll get a lot of, “Yeah, that’s dumb,” from this site.

But it’s a little more than naive to think you’re going to find people here dragging, say, PO posts over here just to laugh at them. We did do that long ago, but it got boring.

Besides, this is also about the false narrative those at Duck High like to push for whatever reason. It’s easy to see why those from Cali are ignorant of everything Oregon. But those from Eugene have zero excuse to be that moronic. If they’re not that stupid, what are they doing?

I rail on this town for many reasons. But it’s still a decent place compared to many places outside Western Oregon. However, compare Eugene/Nikegon to Corvallis/OSU and the former loses on every count except sports… and being 20 minutes closer to an airport.

      • amen.

The Ducks upgrading and getting to that national prominence level consistently is ultimately good for us. It forced a look at Riley and his late-tenure lack of focus, and got him out of here. Had the Ducks stayed at our level, Riley might have been here to 2021. Now we have a new start and at least a chance to try for that higher level. Stanford successfully challenged UO … maybe we can too.

  18. And while I’m OT and on prog rock, I’ll bring up a question which arose in a recent conversation. Genesis’ best album… Selling England By The Pound -or- The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway?

    • My lady and I love making fun of King Crimson. Sometimes well put the record on and just laugh at it.

Does Can fall into prog rock? If so, Can is probably the only prog rock band I like.

      • No. Can is psychedelic, acid-jazz and funk. You like them but don’t get Zappa?

Jaki is one of the best rock drummers ever… along with Baker. The others can get tossed out with the bathwater. Well, Charlie Watts was pretty damn good too.

I guess that’s the point with prog rock. It tries so hard to be insufferable nonsense sometimes that they get pretentious. When the lyrics start to make sense is when the band has bought its own press.

        • I like the grove Can can get into. The staccato vocals, etc. I don’t know how to classify them. I should retry Zappa…it’s been a very long time since I listened to him. For whatever reason I lump him with Captain Beefheart (are they anything a like?). I went through that phase in my late teens so can’t remember much.

Regarding Syd Barrett — why do people say he was good? I mean outside the opening intro and verses of Astronomy Domine it is all either embarrassing lyrically or childish nonsense. Bike might be the worst tune ever written. I really want my money back for buying Piper in ’95, inflation adjusted, too. Now Pink Floyd got corny when he left and became something between “dad rock” and “prog rock”, but I’d take songs like Fearless, Brain Damage/Eclipse, In the Flesh, Wish You were Here, Nobody Home, etc over songs like Lucifer Sam and Bike. Problem is once Syd left they become too serious…almost brooding. I can’t listen to PF in large doses for that reason. They also have a weird sense of time and groove on some songs — a bit too much tit/tat drumming that tries to be large, airy, “arena rock” and driving but just isn’t. I can’t stand that style. I associate it with amateur drumming because every drummer I’ve worked with on my own records plays in that style, and they all sucked by one (the drummer with a punk background who knew how to hit skins hard and driving).

I like prog rock for the laughs (how serious they take themselves and how modal/atonal [aka unlistenable] the music can be). The self indulgent wankery. It’s all pretty funny to me and imo not what music is about.

          • What do you have against cool cats and homeless mice named Darrell?

Piper is some really funny stuff. But I also wouldn’t call it prog. It was almost exclusively psychedelic. I can tell you it sounds outrageous on shrooms. Listening to it sober (or even seriously), I can see how it might just seem like some silly monkey banging pots and not giving a fuck. But there’s a method to it that just makes sense.

This is not the case on Madcap Laughs. Hoo boy! You gotta have a head full of suds to think that was anything but Syd telling the record industry to shove it.

If you go back to Crimson and Court, the experimentation comes through the use of certain words which make certain sounds in order to complement the music. That’s why you end up with some nonsensical lyrics with them. They throw out a word just to make a protracted sound. They throw out another term just to strike an emotional chord. mckalk says he prefers Red. I can’t really handle the mathrock stuff. It sounds like it loses soul to me.

And I guess that’s where we have to thank prog rock the most. The legacy drummers who fall in line with their prog stick gods have just been a bunch of boners who pat each other on the back.

  19. Pt, poets, tool in that order…going off the off topic, wife and I are road tripping to see trower in pdx next week.

He still brings it after all these years

    • “…Lisa returned to Missoula from early December through mid-March to track Tres’ senior season. Tres moved out of the Hays’ home and shared an air mattress with Lisa on the floor of the master bedroom in their old house, which remained for sale….”

      Shared an air mattress?

That brings up all sorts of questions such as: did the dip stick who wrote this proof read (and think about) what they’d written? Can’t the Tinkles afford 2 mattresses? Is Connor a ‘uck grad? Etc., etc.

  20. I don’t know how any scheduling works, but I wonder if his connections down there could get us a home and home with UCF? That seems like a pretty “equal” level school to play against as a quality opponent while allowing us to get our foot in the door in Florida, and as a return home trip for some of those guys were getting out of the state.

  21. Maybe the ROTC could run a canon for the post Touchdown celebration? I also like the train whistle/horn idea. Home and home with either UCF, USF, Florida Atlantic, or Florida international would be a “neat deal”. But, I would love a home and home series with an SEC school!

    • I think so. Trevon Bradford was his teammate at Oregon City, and he tweeted this out the other night. I took it to mean he is coming in as a 2015 walk-on.

Nice insurance too to hopefully keep Bradford committed. He sounds like he’s solid with OSU, but he’s also been getting alot of buzz at camps this summer as a guy who belongs out there with some of the elite level WR’s at the same camps.

      Trevon Bradford ?@Trey_licious Jun 20
Quick s/o to my guy @ChrisMengis pursuing his football career at OSU..beavers are getting a steal????Can’t wait to be there with you????? #GoBeavs

      • although there are conflicting reports. take it with a grain of salt. haven’t seen any coaches tweet anything that would signal a new commit.

        • FWIW Blitz member said that Angie reported they don’t have any spots left at WR, so its not a legitimate commit. However, Andrew is reporting the commit and included quotes from Eugene.
          So I don’t know??

          • some decent offers in Cincinnati and illnois
Telly seems to have a good eye. Maybe they are getting on these kids before the services get out and see them at the camps?

Speaking of which sounds like the satelite camps were sparsely attended?

          • Still no coach tweets, yet 247, Scout, Oregonlive, Espn (high school reporter) and the kids coach all say he’s committed. Rivals is the only site holding off, and it might he for good reason. Will have to wait and see

  22. The targets and commits in the class continue to mystify even the most asute recruiting experts.

Half of these guys (at least) will never see the field in the Pac12. If they do, Beavers are in a heap of trouble. Even WSU and Colorado are getting higher rated players.

I know Andersen will get his traction at some point, but god bless America, this roster is starting to look more like a PSU, Idaho, or Montana collection.

    • Who are the recruiting experts you’re talking about? Several of the recruits haven’t even been rated by the recruiting sites. And some have been given a generic middle of the road 5.5 3* rating, only after committing to Oregon State. Check out Rivals ratings of Ferguson and Bradford. Rivals didn’t even bother to review either player, but somehow we’re supposed to buy that they’re 3* guys because Rivals picked a number out of thin air?

      http://sports.yahoo.com/oregonstate/football/recruiting/player-Javonte-Ferguson-168833
      http://sports.yahoo.com/oregonstate/football/recruiting/player-Trevon-Bradford-165865

It’s really tough to gauge the class right now based off of the star rankings. If anything, wait till after the players have played their senior year and the recruiting sites have had a chance to actually review guys, before making any judgments based on the site ratings.

Also, I don’t expect a great recruiting class this early with a new staff, only because recruits have no idea what to expect from them until they see them coach some games at Oregon State. Sure, they can tell kids to go look at Utah State highlights from circa 2012, but that isn’t really going to carry much weight. Give them a chance to show what they’re about on the field this year, and maybe then you’ll see more higher caliber players decide to join their team.

    • *yawn*

Never see the field… blah blah blah. Most astute recruiting experts… blah blah blah. Whatever.

Get back to us on signing day, self-ascribed coach. If we’re stuck with a bunch of skill and perimeter players, I’m with you. If we haul some of the trenchers on our radar, you’re more than a fool.

The positions committed are littered with “recruiting evaluation” failures here and across the nation. There are five star RBs and WRs who will go somewhere else and never see game day again. There are kids the “recruiting experts” have never seen who will be great college players. There are even some somewhere who will one day play in the NFL… either highly rated or otherwise. But we don’t care about whether or not players go to the NFL. That’s not the mission of any college team. That’s not even a slight goal. We know this is true because we’ve seen our own OSU teams, loaded with NFL caliber talent, do nothing worth a damn… against teams that lose to PSU, Idaho or Montana.

Recruiting sited are notoriously bad at what they do… except for the grifting aspect. I don’t know how they push the numbers they do with a straight face. If someone is rated a five star, they are a sure thing. An unrated player who outplays any three star is a miss. There are some kids who are a sure thing whether or not anyone has seen them play. But being right about 40% of the “highly rated” kids does not a ‘recruiting expert” make. Missing only 5% of the unrated kids does not mitigate the 60% wrongness of those experts. I don’t know about you, but I learned that a standard deviation of 60 should lead me back to my formula… in order to burn it and hide it from anyone in order to keep them from ever seeing it… for fear they may think I was an extreme fool. But then I see the “experts” tout such deviations and take people’s money in order to continue doing such “work.”

And the resulting hype will contribute to the downfall of a sport, if it hasn’t already.

“… most astute recruiting experts…” my ass. More like otherwise unemployed leeches.

    • I just realized you threw targets into your argument. You are a fool. Even the recruiting dummies aren’t mystified by them. Go back to la la land.

    • Well we don’t have a clue yet if these coaches are finding true diamonds in the rough (unlike Riley, who usually only found rough). We won’t know for 2 or 3 years, unfortunately. But your point that based off the star system this roster looks like Idaho, Montana, PSU is not far off. I think Blazer’s point that some of these guys will get bumped up to 3-star on most sites is true, too. My big issue is I expected Andersen, and specifically the guys on his staff known for recruiting, to inject *immediate results* (like some immediate high 3-star or even 4 star guys), and we now see that isn’t true. I still think these players are better than most of Riley’s 2 star guys, but I understand the frustration of those who wanted to see immediate impact in recruiting. Looking at the recruits casually, this class could be Riley’s…if you dig into the film a little more you see they’re better athletes than RIley’s. So what I am saying is yeah, no 4-stars, but from what I have seen there will be less roster “filler”/duds, too. I’m waiting for that next step with recruiting…a highly desired guy who signs with OSU and starts a domino effect, or a package deal that includes some highly rated players….we need that break through.

      But it’s June…can’t panic yet.

      • What did we have under Riley? I can think of four kids who were rated better than three stars who contributed. Two of them were Wheaton and Cooks. The others were/are Philipp and Seumalo. And they spent half their careers injured… because bear crawls are a neat deal.

Agreed, wait and see.Whining about it now is the folly of morons.

      • Who on the Beavers staff is known for recruiting? Andersen never had particularly highly ranked classes at USU or Wisconsin, not that you would expect them at either place. Sitake and the DL coach couldn’t even convince the blue chip Polynesians in Utah to become Utes. Baldwin, I don’t know much about, but I can’t imagine him creating much of a name for himself recruiting-wise at USU or CSU.

My expectation with the staff has been they will do more with the same caliber players, or at least not shit the bed multiple times per year. Shitting the bed every once in a while… hey, it happens, especially when you’re playing Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes.

        • The point is that he is getting the same players as far as ratings are concerned. But are they the same? Those we’re getting are better overall athletes who are not on the smallish side. They are also diversified as athletes, playing multiple sports and such. These are the kids we will be seeing more, filling out future rosters. I’m all in if we get Togiai types for football because I know what that type of athlete can do. If you walked through Riley’s locker rooms, you’d be surprised to see how many 5’10” DBs, WRs, RBs and LBs were actually not 5’10″… or even close. You would see a dearth of athleticism on the DL. And except for 1.5 recruiting cycles you wouldn’t see any meat on the OL post-Gilchrist.

Gilchrist, btw, could spot a football player in the middle of a bunch of five stars, four stars, three stars, no stars. If that dude said you could play football, you were likely an all-world player. He’s not the exception that breaks the rule, not that the rule is even close to definitive. But he was damn good. I think Chip Kelly was the same kind of savant. It’s why he sucks at it on the pro level. Everyone is good enough to play on that level. But when he goes back to college, probably Florida… although, I think it would be awesome if he went on to make BC or the Cuse legendary… he will find the players he can make into awesome college players. Hell, Chris Petersen was better than Riley at spotting that talent right under Riley’s nose. Andersen has shown similar brilliance by finding previously unheralded prospects early, even within our own region.

And our coaches are highly visible now, as opposed to the meek they replaced. Yay for airplanes with tote boards. That’s neato. We now have coaches who sell. We’re just waiting for the close.

          • I’d say Gilstrap was the best talent evaluator OSU had, at least in recent times, and made Riley look good for a while. I don’t find it coincidence that Riley’s best teams (2006-2009) road the coattails of Gilstrap’s talent evaluation. Not sure about Gilchrist.

          • That’s a different point. I was asking angry how he got the impression these guys are known for being good recruiters of highly ranked talent.

          • Are we looking for coaches who are proficient in X-Box community gaming? Are we looking for coaches who have alumni with cash backing them? Are we looking to be that school who has athletes picked up in a limo and carted off to Celebrity X’s party any given weekend?

THOSE are the only recruiting disadvantages existing in Corvallis. I would rather lose every game than go the route of… oh… some school (term used loosely) within 40 miles of us. We are in the business of taking high school kids and making them college men who will then become contributing members of society. You will find it hard for me to say that any college does not do that, that any kid can become that. But the very real reality of recruiting is that there is money involved. Those who historically win recruiting battles have more than X-Boxes and realy cool coaches who tell of X-Boxes in each locker.

If you’re that naive, then why pay attention to the recruiting side. Just be ambivalent and watch your team, whomever they may be.

        • Who on the Beavers staff is known for recruiting?

Lockette specifically, but Woods and Chad K, too. Even Brennen is a pretty good recruiter (e.g. he landed Guyton, Villamin, Jarmon, Bolden, Gilmore, and Paul Lucas).

    • “… being the guy that hired us along with Ed Ray,” Tinkle said” (of BDC).

Another indication (as if we needed it) of Pres. Ray’s involvement in the Ath. Dept., a good thing. I still like the enthusiasm he displayed during the Andersen hire.

    • I only have twitter to follow news. I have never tweeted or done anything proactive on it. I somehow have 435 followers though. So there’s that.

Get with angry. He has my email. Go through that instead.

  23. I like Kendal Manuel as a four year commit. He won’t be pushing the more highly touted back court players. But he will.

And when they move on, he will be here as the solid senior who can move the program forward.

He needs to hit from other than the left elbow trey. All it takes is putting up shots.

    • A quote from Andrew Nemec on Kendal Manuel commitment:

“Important: This was not a throw-away offer to a kid late just to add a body to the rotation. He’s got high upside and will be a strong rotation piece in the Pac-12 Conference. Had he not been in Montana, he would’ve had several offers.

Another fantastic get for the Beavers.”

It’s so un-Nemec of him, don’t you think?

This coaching staff is really good. Exciting times in Corvallis.

      • He was on vacation last week and since he’s been back he’s been very un-Nemec. Maybe the criticisms sunk in when he had time to step away? Its only been 2 days though.

To be honest, he’s been running circles around the coverage from the pay sites in my opinion.

        • Another Nemec quote, “Oregon State’s coaching staff continues to show that it will be ahead of the curve evaluating and offering talent”. This from his story on Isaiah Hodgins.

Have we all misunderestimated AN? Is this a phony streak to curry favor with Beavs coaches? Has he actually come over to the good side?
Careful though, don’t want to give away a valuable fuck on a worthless topic!…….’specially at my age. But then, “I’m as good ONCE as I ever was”,

  24. Madrigal tagged out in a rundown against the Bend Elks. Does this mean two Bend basemen are going to mysteriously end up in polypropylene vats of acid later?

  25. Does Manuel figure to be in the rotation this year? I almost feel like he should redshirt this year because of where the rotation stands. At guard, we have Thompson Jr, Duvivier, GPII, Bruce, Morris-Walker all in the fold.

    In Tinkle we trust?

    • He’s like Duvivier in that he’s a year younger than the 2015 class. So he’s physically still a junior in HS… and still growing. He might redshirt, but that’s not really what you do in hoops unless you have an injury. When you have good talent, good talent will ride the pine in their younger years.

    • Hmmm… decisions, decisions….

Go to NU… become a S after fall camp… transfer in your sophomore year.

Go to Nikegon… redshirt the first year… sit on the bench for another year… play in some garbage time your third year… transfer in your junior year.

      Decisions, decisions, decisions….

  26. BeavRecruiting @BeavRecruiting

Reports from yesterday’s verbal commitment of Eugene Manuel were premature. Not to be considered official at this time. More details later.

    =============================
So far the OSU website has nothing about his signing.

This is from a story about him: By NCAA rules, Tinkle can’t comment until the letter of intent arrives via fax.

    • He visited with his grandfather. He, with his mother, still needs to sign and fax the paperwork. Tinks can’t comment on him until then. He’ll be back for the second bridge program in July.

    • Crap, that’s a typo on my part. That tweet should have said “Marlon Eugene”, I’ll have to fix that. That’s what I get for trying to tweet while driving.

He’s the WR from Florida who “committed” the other day. I heard back from a reliable source that it wasn’t legit. The kid wants to commit, but he didn’t clear it with the coaches before putting the news out there.

The hoops kid, Kendal Manuel is legit. He’s joined the 2015 class, although the school probably has to clear his paperwork before they can actually say anything.

          • Don’t worry, I was stopped at a traffic light in rush hour traffic. If a cyclist dies in that situation, it’s on them.

          • For some reason I had a vision of Arte Johnson of laughin riding his tricycle up beside your car, falling over, hitting his head on your fender and breaking his neck.

I went off looking for a video of it but couldn’t find one which is probably for the best cuz the skit was pretty dumb.

            =================== http://www.tvacres.com/bicycles_tricycle.htm
Arte Johnson’s Tricycle – On the comedy variety program ROWAN & MARTIN PRESENTS LAUGH-IN/NBC1968-72 comedian Arte Johnson made bicycle riding history when he created the famous “adult on tricycle” skit. Dressed in a yellow raincoat, Arte Johnson’s adult body precariously balanced itself on a child’s tricycle. Furiously pedaling the trike, Arte suddenly came to a dead-stop, slowly tipped over and then lay silent on the ground, hands still gripping the tiny handle bars and feet still on the pedals. The skit spawned the phrase “pulling an Arte Johnson” that referred to someone who falls off his bicycle. And thirty years later, the skit is still popular…..

          • This raises the question: What percentage of stoplight texters are exclusively doing it at stop lights only? My guess is that percentage is a low number.

  27. I tuned into the AD press conference……and just woke up from the nap it induced. Did anybody else watch it? Any take-aways?
I tend to like leaders where it seems the synapses are firing quickly and the words flow from their mouths with ease. I didn’t see that today.

    • Yeah, not real dynamic. A couple of bureaucrats at the podium. But, not bad, either. Seems like the Beavers have good coaches in place, and this guy won’t piss them off, so that’s something.

      • Put together an improved program and no one will care if he has a personality that would make cardboard weep. It’s not like Bobby D was Mr. Charisma

    • Only very extremely drunk Duck fans thought he was a lock for them. They got mentions from him, but he was more likely to go back to Romar than he was to go to Eugene once Calipari got his hook in.

  28. Evaluation of OSU FB recruiting:

So here’s a kid (Devron Davis) who JUCO Football Frenzy (who the hell ever that is) describes as America’s most wanted CB AND apparently he says he’s hoping for an offer from the Beavs even though he’s already been offered by LSU, ASU, UO and Texas A&M.

What are the odds the coaching staff doesn’t offer him?

    ====================
Stud JUCO DB @dsmooth22_ , cousin of former Beav @Nelson_Island, still hopeful for that #GoBeavs offer despite recent LSU/ASU/UO offers.

    ====================
JUCO Football Frenzy ?@JUCOFFrenzy Jun 22

America’s Most Wanted: 2016 (Merced JC) JUCO CB @dheisman7 was just offered by Texas A&M

    =========================

@BeavRecruiting @dsmooth22_ @Nelson_Island Would fit a position of need with the recent medical retirement of projected starter Dashon Hunt.

  29. Its a head scratcher for sure. He visited Corvallis early on back in April actually. He then committed to Louisville. Later, de-committed from Louisville and has since been picking up offers left and right from top 25 programs. Even if theyre doubtful they’ll win his services, what’s the harm in trying?

  30. Seeing hole get piped on the Kentucky commitment is a little bittersweet. Mostly sweet so we don’t have to play him and because their spoiled asses don’t get a new shiny toy to brag about. But the fact that it was them vs frickin Kentucky is boosting their profile. Kentucky is CBB royalty. To even compete with them is something.

  31. Wow our new AD is as big a snoozer as the last one. Slightly less awkward.

Oh well, as long as he can direct some mean athletics!

  32. So, is the Herbig announcement tonight the first real benchmark for GA? He’s a gamer who will open other recruiting channels, most importantly with Eletise and Auwae. Or do we shrug it off if he goes somewhere else? Maybe it depends on where the somewhere else is? Stanford is a shrug, but TTech is a head scratcher?

Isn’t he another kid who said he was an OSU fan when he was young?

    • I think you’re right on here. Big implications if he chooses OSU. I still think he goes to Stanford, but any other school on his list I would view as a failure to close the deal. His parents are both from the state of Oregon, but I’m not sure if they have any OSU allegiances. Beavs were one of the first P5 teams to offer him, which hopefully means something, but a free Stanford education will be tough to pass up. Especially when that same school has a good track record with developing O-lineman.

      • And we didn’t want him anyway. That’s the line ‘uck fans use and unfortunately I must admit, I’ve seen it used by Beav fans too.

    • IF they’ve made a pact to play on the same team here are the teams they’d most likely commit to (I’m using Eletise’s top 10 choices to help with narrowing it down along with which schools they’re interested in and have an offer from):

      Oregon State

And that’s it. That’s a jaw dropper for me. They all have lots of offers from top notch institutions but, according to the list I looked at, OSU is the only one for all 3 of them.

      Hope springs eternal………..

    • Really he’s just 1 of 2.

Katoa is a mission guy. won’t be here
Lucas committed as a WR. Rivals only rated him as a RB, so he’ll stay that way in their database

Similar to how our new QB commit, Mason Moran is rated as a 3* Safety on Rivals.

      • For me, Thomas was possibly the most important guy from the 2015 class, because he was the start of the Florida pipeline and directly led to Irvine and Moore coming, as well as 2 of our 2016 commits who are coming from Ed White HS.

      • Don’t forget Tim Cook. We picked up a lot of RBs, however you slice it.

Are you sure Lucas is slated at WR? Seems like what I’ve read/heard is that they want to use him in a hybrid role. Offensive weapon similar to how the Ducks used De’Anthony Thomas.

  33. Battle of the OSU’s?

Beavers Football ?@OSUBeaversFB 3m3 minutes ago

5 games added to the future schedule, including ’19 and ’20 matchups with Oklahoma State. #gobeavs

Other additions include Idaho State in 2016, Portland State in 2017 and Southern Utah in 2018. #gobeavs

  34. Peter Paul & Mary sends their regards –

    THE ANGER GONE

Where has the anger gone, long time whining?

Where as the anger gone, long time crying?

    Where has the anger gone?

Little Beav’s have built it all

Oh, when will beavs ever learn?
Oh, when will beavs ever learn?

      • These are positive times for Beaver Nation. Still, there is this little subset of angry whittle beavers that subsist on the negatives of tails past. In need of a good smack I say. Ya bunch of whiners.

      • has Portland already started tanking for 2015-16? LM is leaving, they traded Batum yesterday, then this evening traded Hollis-Jefferson (after they drafted him) and Steve Blake to Brooklyn for a pair of nobodies. WTF?

        • GM Neil Olshey just said in presser that Aldridge has not said he’s leaving and those reports were false today. Aldridge told him to squash that rumor.

Thats probably more blazer talk than angry would want to see in his blog though, so i’ll leave it at that

          • I never liked Aldridge as the anchor player, and I wouldn’t mind seeing him go. His salary is outrageous already. So what do we want? Yay! Let’s make it to the regional semis and lose once again. Yay! At least we have an All-Star. Yay!

Aldridge is gone… hopefully. Love is in. Batum was always overrated. I love Connaughton. Plumlee is a throw-away. We probably have to eat that contract. I did not like the Hollis-Jefferson pick. Now I like it.

I have no clue what Brooklyn is doing here. Aldridge plying his leverage makes the Cousins FA fun to watch. I want to see how stupid Cali teams can be. GS will not be one of those stupid teams. Looney will be an excellent fit there. Golly, that Jerry West guy is just kinda a neat deal.

          • Love isn’t coming either. He’s either staying in Cleveland or going to the Lakers. Aldridge is either going to the Spurs, Lakers or Mavs. If anyone mortgages their future on DeMarcus Cousins they’re blind, dumb or both. Good player, bad attitude. Locker room cancer.

          • Love is coming. Don’t buy whatever hype you’re hearing. Hell, don’t buy my hype. So we’re just spectators for now.

I don’t think LBJ wants him anymore. The Lakers are just wandering in the post-West wilderness of, “how the fuck did our dad make so many great personnel decisions in the 80’s and 90’s”… -ville. They’ll bring in Cousins for far too much money. Love will come home, and nobody will play that fucking lousy “I’m coming home” song… hopefully.

            5:2 Love is Blazer-bound?

    • First, that makes no sense. Second, that makes sense to you.

I think we can derive third pretty easily.

You may be brilliant when you go out about your town. But it’s all relative kiddo. Annoying does not a troll make. You gotta want it… and have half a brain. You have neither. You’re no better than a Duck. I’m sorry to throw that at you. But you really are no better than a Duck.

At least a Duck has the privilege of being in Oregon for a time, no matter that it’s in this shit-hole of a strip mall on a pimple on the freeway. But hey! we got planes flying over our houses at all hours.

Wtf are you about butterbrain? Usually we have clever people or angry pollyannas or just normal Duck trolls. But you are none of that. You are to trolls what motor oil is to sex lube.

        • Remember, we each have only so many “give a fucks”, I’m not wasting any on this individual.

But, it does strike me that he’d be more at home in the comment section of the big O.

          • Oh… um… snap… I think?

Wasn’t that clever enough to be called clever? If someone can explain why it’s somewhat funny, I will vote it up as something funny… that I missed in my time on this earth… as being funny or such.

It does provide me time and type, something I know you all hate from me. So I guess you’re all now thinking buttbutter is just me running a proxy through Tennessee. I assure you, I would be be at least half-intelligent if I ever pretended to be a troll. And I wouldn’t choose Tennessee as my fucking origin. How believable would that be?

          • Um… no. I found it to be an instant shower the moment I walked outside. I was in Memphis, so maybe it was a little different away from the river. But the summer heat mandated we hide inside in the AC. Storms would be warm rains, not the fresh, cool ozone dumps. It would just be like you were sweating in fast forward.

And services suck in that state. Not only services, but people in the service industries. Nashville and Mamphis are the worst airports I’ve ever been through because of the people there. I now avoid those airports if at all possible (that, and they connect most often to Atlanta and DFW… two other shitty ports… more for traffic than for people). Taxis, hotels, police… no.

And the landscape is just a jungle of weeds. Do they actually grow anything in that place? I mean, other than fields with a jumble of four or five cars semi-hidden by vegetation, curtains of vines along the highways are all that make it green.

          • “And the landscape is just a jungle of weeds. Do they actually grow anything in that place? I mean, other than fields with a jumble of four or five cars semi-hidden by vegetation, curtains of vines along the highways are all that make it green.”

That is western Oregon to a T. The further east in TN, the more like Oregon.

          • I’m assuming from that post that you have no clue what western Oregon looks like. I’m not sure why you’re commenting here on this subject. Other than some blackberry brambles that have been allowed to grow here and there, everything is grass level and mostly groomed. Hell, there are more sheep than there are weeds.

Tennessee, as I recall, was a solid curtain of vines growing on a windbreak of trees. It was green… and ugly as fuck. And then you drive off on the back roads… I guess we have Eddyville.

        • Do you really want me to turn you in to the NRA for being the pretend “man” you are?

Yeah… I see that shit. I also see your pretend love of country shit… you fucking little piece of shit.

My woman says, “Say hello to that little lying shit for me.”

  35. The Beaver Nation needs each and everyone of it’s beavers.
Now, if you are so injured by years of beaver futility that you can’t get behind the renewal of OSU,
then, just politely shut the fuck up. Beaver nation is moving forward now, so get in line and support, or get the fuck gone.
    Respectfully yours,
    BUTTER

      • Oh Jack you little pathetic bitch. Do you really think that is how things work? Go lick Angry’s ass and make both your pathetic self’s feel better.

        • You’re too easy.

And… proxies are not your friend.

Although, being a fucking stupid piece of shit doesn’t help you either. So there’s that. Maybe a little more consideration to even trying to be annoying… because you obviously will never get execution on the intelligence front… maybe that can get you a foot up. I think you have a future, despite everyone I know who has seen anything you’ve written saying you’re just a dumb-shit who should shoot himself.

          Call me an optimist.

        • Here’s a suggestion butter. Why don’t you pretend to be angry? Why don’t you, as the person whose name I know, pretend to be the monicker you think I share with myself… but do not?

Just fucking do it, you little loser. You have zero balls if you refuse, you pile of fermenting fallacies.

          • ENGLISH! We speak English here you little whiny turd.

Wait… you’ve been mirroring me. Okay. You’re not all dumb. Maybe you just ooze it with every word because your daddy never met your mommy.

Thank goodness Uncle Pa was always there for you.

          • Damn! Man Jack you got me good. You have Angrybeavs all this time. Well done you big tooth beaver you.!
I will try to take this lesson forward and not fall for such shenanigans in the future, Well done Angry Jack, and go Beavers!

          • Huh?

Did I do something of note… or effort?

You’ll come back. Your type always comes back… for that lazy retort you could never get from the guy or gal you thought was somewhat half-intelligent. Yeah… just the lazy retort. Because you don’t know anything more poignant, which is poignant in itself. We could write one big poignant story about it all. But I think I would get pretty bored by sentence two. And you might get bored sometime around the fifth or sixth paragraph, where I would insert the words, “aren’t you bored by now… you… you who I am talking to?”

            I’m bored.

          • You inspire boredom.

You win. I could never do this. I don’t have that talent.

I bow to you on bended knee or something like that.

    • Come on people!

This song sucks… on an album of suck. It happens to the best… even in rock & roll. It’s technically sound because the Stones were that good. But it really sucks.

  36. So… OT… and back to the NBA… the Blazers might have shown some life for once. Granted, this is still the same front office who cowered to Aldridge for years, thought Batum might become a baller… maybe this year… maybe this year… okay, maybe this year, stocked the roster with dead weight like Kaman, Frazier and Freeland. And Afflalo?

    I mean… really?

But I like where they’re suddenly going if they’re not done. I really really really did not like the RHJ pick (or the Diez pick for that matter… wtf?). I can’t stand Plumlee or Henderson. I love the Vonleh pick-up. And I love Connaughton as a glue guy.

Keep Matthews and Lopez. Cut the dead weight. Let Aldridge and his $20m anchor go. Bring Love home to play with that group. Make a big move and complete the roster with Tobias Harris.

I’d be great playing with someone else’s money.

While I’m at it, I’m going to take a flier on Derrick Williams and bring Kyle Singler home too. They have the upside to be great, role players or just more dead weight. But at worst, they’re different dead weight.

  37. Why do you guys respond to these tools who pop up? Clogs up and ruins the feed. I thought that crap is what the Olive comment section is for.

Now, when the funnier rivals (bowdown, Casey the Duck, Uduck, etc) pop up it’s great, but baevbutter and cats like he/she don’t deserve the time of day.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

    • Because there’s nothing better to do at the moment. Yes, this one is dumber than a rock. But at least he’s putting himself out there.

Besides, we have to have at least one thread make it to 500 posts without doing the single word thing.

If whatshisname did this during football season, he’d most likely be ignored. In fact, he would most likely not exist… kind of like B1G hockey anymore.

    • Morons like BeavButt want to support the site, but for some psychological hangup, want to appear anit-site. So they support it by swelling the post count … with anti comments. Makes them feel better while spending lots of time here. Its a strange world….

      • Nope. He’s just a dumb shit… and a liar. He’s most likely a legend in his own mind on O-live comments.I wouldn’t even blame eSchmuck for his stupidity. That’s how really dumb he is.

    • No clue. There was an Ybarra who played for ASU… and I think one who played for SDSU. I’m not really up on baseball players.

      • Looking at his twitter history, if he’s a he, I see a tool. Dude (or duderina) is a jokester who doesn’t have enough upstairs to create original content.

And his or her friends are really really boring.

    • ANY PSYCH MAJORS OUT THERE??? After putting in all this time looking at the mumba’s tweets I realized that spending my time like this indicates I’m in some serious need of help.

    • beavbutter, instead of posting 70 times and saying nothing, I’d like to something semi-intelligent from you. So here’s some softy questions: What is your predictions for number of wins next fall, which games are wins, and which are ‘maybe’ wins? Will Chris Brown have a break out season? Why or why not? Which first year guy makes the biggest impact? What’s the upside to Collins? The downside? Let’s see your chops or get the f*** out of here.

        • I take exception to the notion that I’ve said nothing.
I see that you have a good keen interest in the upcoming football season, and you have my respect for that.
It is quite a different vibe going on under G A. Hard to predict the first season outcomes, but I can guarantee the Beaver Nation will be thrilled in the level of fight of the 2015 Beavers. The cupboard is sparse currently, but the guys are going to grind hard. Six wins would be considered more than a job well done by most informed Beavers, but I am even more optamistic than that. A nice seven win season against the odds is in store for the Mighty Beavs.

Losses to UCLA/Mich/AZ/Cal/and the f’ing Ducks in a close one

      • Y’all are morons for trying to interact with him in something resembling reality or common sense. He’s a friggin’ moronwho will now take the time to make up lyrics to some song in order to try to be funny.

That takes a dedication far from troll-dom. That smacks of idiocy from within.

        Know your trolls.

That doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the worst (in terms of intelligence) there have ever been… or that I’ll be nice to him just because I know who he is.

All trolls are fair game and equal in my eyes.

  39. While I’m on it… or off it…

Do any of you have pets? Do you feed your pets? Do you know what you feed your pets?

Do you look at the ingredients on your pet food and think they believe your pet is something other than a boon for your tax dollar subsidies that go to to grains?

Yeah… my dog’s ancestors grew up on corn and wheat and soy. They were excellent during harvest because of this. You couldn’t keep them away from the grain fields when they were hungry.

    Yay for bullshit!

    • OK I’ll bite, so to speak…

I feed my dog a (packaged) raw food diet.

Previously I fed my dogs the normal “premium end” bagged crap food like Iams and Science diet for years, even though my ‘cousin-in-law’ is a well known dog nutritionist. Yeah yeah fancy schmancy hippie dog food, blah blah blah.

New dog last year with skin issues he insists I try a better diet. Gives me some samples of a product he believes in and feeds his dogs. And wtf, one week and skin issues gone. All the bullshit claims, actually are true. Anecdotal crazy voodoo shit but I’m telling you this dog is batshit crazy healthy.

So I’m a convert, scoff if you wish, could give a shit, just telling you you might be surprised, and like Jack says, they never ate corn so why feed it to them now?

      Here endeth the lesson.

      • I’ve bought dog food at the local feed store for years. I don’t know WHY THE FUCK PURINA IS IN BUSINESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There’s probably a a subsidy for them that you and I pay, just like every fucking oil company and coal company out there… and every giant corn producer… and every fucking thing you think is conservative but really just rapes you of your tax dollars because you’re so fucking naive that you think this is a fucking free market.

Yeah… and Obama deserved that fucking peace prize.

        Yeah.

  40. Come on!

I don’t know why 500 is a neato thing for me. I actually think we got one up to 700+ a couple years back. It doesn’t matter. 500 is a good number. Beavbutter can bring it across the plate. Well, beavbutter is as stupid as Wisconsin playing hockey… or thinking anyone in the B1G is anywhere close to being anything more than a club team. So he’ll need some help… some really serious help.

    What were we talking about?

  41. Btw,… the Twin Cities are just places… across the river from each other… the same town… held together by Scotch tape.

See what I did there? 3M? Scotch tape?

Yeah. I don’t see it either. But at least one of us tried!!!!

    What were we talking about?

  42. Looking back over all the idiocy I’ve posted, it appears you all like me as the aggressor.

That’s antithetical to everything I want.

You all suck… not really… but you know what I mean.

They can’t come for me. I’m right here!

  43. If you’re upset about the Ukraine, then blame Saint Ronnie and his stupid rhetoric… which led to GHWB and his stupidity. Yes… this is one instance where idiot boy is not to blame. His father and the machine he directed… oh… yeah.

      • Oh… Clinton in his last hours was horrible for the world. Wtf was that dude thinking? He did some good while he was was prez… then just fucked everyone in the ass on his way out.

And then he went around and asked people to donate to his library… depending on what the definition of “and” is.

  44. So excuse me while I don’t even bother to scoff at you and your “partisan” politics. They’re not even politics… you really really stupid person.

Oh… you think you’re getting it. Go back to my last sentence.

    • Does anyone else get a 30 second lag when posting anything?

I might as well just Tor it.

You know where I am. I know where you are. You choose to play on a sports blog?

      Y’all are dumb as hell.

Like anyone who had half a brain bought WMD’s. Okay… like anyone with even remotely just a piece of a brain that had any cognitive function thought WMD’s was anything more than just a fucking lie that led to many of my friends and family members of my friends to needless deaths.

Merica! That fucking merica! That fucking Bechtel lie… Halliburton truth… whatever the fuck you fucking “conservatives” think you “support.”

You’re a bunch of naive marks or a bunch of naive marks.

      Take your choice… child.

  45. Merica led by someone to the right of Obama.

Oh my fucking imaginary sky deity!

We’re going to war… again… because rich white fuckers are smarter than you are… and make it all about wealth redistribution while it’s really about them fucking you and your tax dollars and waving the fucking flag in your fucking stupid face like it’s some fucking prop. What is it this time? Is it immigration? It can’t be gay marriage. That’s so fucking 2004… and so fucking real that conservatives can approach me for one day and maybe have a chance to marry me. Of course, I would have to go all Mormon and shit since I’m already married. But fuckstick whackadoodle might actually get a piece of this if he’s lucky.

You know who you are, fuckstick whackadoodle. I love you… you flaccid man. You are my something.

  46. I feel like I’m trying to write for a David Lynch film… constantly… without answer… because it’s just creepy when comments aren’t answered. It must mean that nobody out there cares. I mean… how can I pile on the melodrama any more than it needs to be piled on?

Oh. Sorry. Did I just Nike the fuck out of that convo?

Yup… you’re special… you wear shoes… 12 year-old sex slaves make your footwear… you have an X-Box in your GODDAMN FUCKING LOCKER!!!!!!!!!!!

    You are one stupid fuck.

  47. Is this some kind of filibuster ? Or are you enjoying some spirits ? Just a month and a half until something critical to write about. Keep Cool

    • Sorry. There is an attack by a totally stupid moron going on right now. So it’s hard to figure out who the good guys are.

Just let the question rip. You will receive an answer.

      • Yes… I understand. This is not the best medium to grow late seeds.

I got them going in a greenhouse and just now plugged them into the ground… where more water is necessary… not that a water is important.

        • Bring it boys… In fact, you have my consent for a skinny dip… a pull-your-part… A fucking legal rape!

Not that you haven’t already done one to this paranoid dude… who is looking at you… because you’re looking at him… I mean me… or something.

          • I feel like that post should be shiny and posted all over Merica! Yeah! Merica!

All right. That’s dumber than a silent fart in an idiot”s silent fart wedding

There… nobody has to worryabout trademarks… or this/that.

This ain’t that… fuck that. You tight. I can make up pretty uniforms and color hype like you can take a piss… and so can just about every other human on this world… except for the 10 year-old…um… not slaves… um… not people… because you’re fucking Nike… um….

Whatever, I Love your name and that I can capitalize Love without anyone noticing.

  48. Here’s the scorecard for Obama this week:

Gay marriage: you lied… you didn’t lie about anything else in your campaign… and people think you’re some leftist thingy… because people are just fucking stupid.

Obamacare: Yay for insurance companies. They really needed this giveaway. Those poor insurance companies were dying on the vine… especially since they were not a part of the financial meltdown that idiot boy fostered and festered.

Eulogy: That’s a neat deal. And your speechwriter gets the day off.

Rebel (not Confederate) battle flag: You motherfucking traitors need to get over being traitors to Merica. I served this country, and don’t motherfucking thank me with your sanctimonious fake “thank you for your service” bullshit just because you’re an apeman… a real apeman… you are an apeman….

    Where were we?

    • Oooohhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost forgot!

      Trade!

Yeah… uh huh. Because NAFTA and GATT were so great that fucking stupid people elected the same people they think should be limited by term limits… because they’re fucking stupid people who think their fucking cheat of a Congressman is the only guy who understands what the hell… I mean… what?

Yay because it’s a whole lot easier to move goods into the US that are made by children by day, sex slaves by night.

You go buy your fucking Nike shoes and apparel. You gfo feel good about your motherfucking conservative self because you think a buck is earned in this country, this greatest country on earth… who cares not one whit about educating their own.

Yeah. Go fuck yourselves. And take Prez Amazing with you. Can we just get a real person on the job for once?

      • “… Can we just get a real person on the job for once?…”

Doubtful since the puppet masters have tight control over who makes it as a candidate. Pretty much all candidates are “their” candidates no matter which party they’re in or what kind of words (a.k.a. bull shit) are spewing out of their mouths.

Looks to me like we’re fucked and unfortunately most Americans don’t give a shit. That is they don’t care now, but when they realize that, as George Carlin would say, they have a big red, white and blue dick shoved up their asses………

  49. “Inside every cynical person there is a disappointed idealist” seems to fit you and Jacqui; but my favorite one is:

“Some people see things that are and ask, Why? Some people dream of things that never were and ask, Why not? Some people have to go to work and don’t have time for all that.”
