What is this crap? I went to the site looking for updated rosters and find this:

LOL!
Is this random clip art? That 2nd image looks like a bad 80s cartoon.
Way to nail it this time, marketing department.
That kid benny logo has been around for awhile. Only reason I know is because some family bought an outfit for my first kid with it a couple years back. I wish they hadn’t purchased that one.
My condolences, friend. That would go straight into my sock monkey drawer (also known as the trash)
Looks fine to me. What do you want?
I could give a damn if the family fun image is a cartoon young beaver.
Seems like your trying to be negative just for the sake of being negative.
Seems like you have awful taste. This isn’t Pop Warner football. A fucking 80s cartoon on a D1 football site? Embarrassing. Especially after they claim to be rebranding the awfulness out of the marketing.
I remember that same argument with the bra uniforms. “I don’t care what they wear so long as they win.” Then when they ditched the bras, everyone admitted they were horrible. Way to have a mind, dude. It’s fucking awful. Period.
I could understand your concerns if it was the new logo for the team, but for heaven’s sake, it’s advertising the family fun day for kids. It’s supposed to look absolutely non-threatening, and it’s not even the first image that shows up on the main page.
I don’t know what your problem with the first image is, either.
My problem with the first image is that it says “welcome to the NEW osubeavers” and then features a 50 year old bed-bug-ridden Benny costume in smoke. It’s absurd and embarrassing. It’s not new. It’s the same old shit with smoke around it, and wash that damn costume. That thing look so haggard.
it’s advertising the family fun day for kids.
You can advertise for kids without looking like an Archie cartoon from the 50s. The style is straight out of the 50s. I was being generous with the 80s (though it has a little of that). OSU is stuck. It’s embarrassing. Equally concerning people defend it, but hey, they vigilantly defended the bras, too. Human psychology is a shame.
Uniforms need to be “cool” looking to draw recruits and fans etc. they actually represent the university as a whole, as well as the product on the field. the bra uniform was horrible.
This is advertising for family fun day. It’s for kids, I don’t see anything wrong at all with the cartoon young Benny. I mean if that was the new mascot ya but not in this case.
Let’s get back to talking football not family fun day advertising.
Btw, I really like Ortiz at linebacker, I bet that is a great decision and most people will think that way by seasons end
I think the “welcome to the new…” message is misleading you here. They’re referring to a re-tooling of the existing website they recently made, which was intended to keep the functionality on the mobile version and the desktop version similar to each other and simpler to follow. The old versions had some bad linking going on which led to circular clicking when the user tried to navigate it. There was nothing new added in terms of content, at least at this point.
I’m thinking they’ll chip away at the content as the year rolls on, but you have to keep in mind what a turd of a program they’re trying to rebuild. Add to that the lack of an AD until just this week, and it makes sense that they haven’t had time or the direction needed to pull everything together already.
I’ve heard they are pretty active in creating new graphic artwork that will really be a huge departure from the stale stuff we’ve grown accustomed to. Haven’t heard anything about Benny, but agree the costume is in need of a major overhaul.
I don’t have a problem with the first image either. Not spectacular but not so bad.
Demon Lollipop-head Benny has never been close to approaching good.
Kids are an incredibly important component to building a fanbase, you’re just looking for shit to bitch about.
The site design is much improved over where it was before.
They’re important to a fanbase. Archie looking logos aren’t.
I never have to *look* for shit to bitch about because OSU is always messing up something.
Back to searching for the roster. god I am scared what else I’m going to find on this putrid website.
Edit: OMG!!

Some of these guys on the roster don’t have profiles (blacked out), and I don’t recognize the names. Are these new walk ons?
Let’s remember even GA was all over the marketing department day 1 for plastering his face (with a stripe down the middle) all over. It’s fail after fail.
Beavs always get voted worst uniforms. I disagree with that. But they definitely have the worst marketing in college football. I’d take Toledo’s staff over ours.
Could be worse: http://www.goducks.com/
Although I do hate this trend of excessive scrolling in websites. ESPN is one of the worst.
Wow, that’s a Jack o’ Lantern.
Jack o’ Lantern or Archie comic? Man that is a tough call really
Hey… a monochrome LITE-BRITE!
Ok…since you have to complain, what would be your suggestion to make it better? Answer in the affirmative, don’t just say “not what they are doing”.
The family fun day one would have been fine without the cartoon. Just the kids throwing the ball around…what’s the problem?
Benny needs a remake. He has bed bugs and matted fur. That problem is more difficult to solve. At the very least he needs a new head — he is currently cross-eyed and insane looking. Making a new head that isn’t cross eyed would be a small step. In terms of a huge makeover, I’d have to think about it more.
Not for nuthin but my 5 years old has a really high quality pro-back hat with the young Benny logo. Whenever he wears it out he gets tons of compliments, because it’s pretty rare.
I don’t have a strong feeling either way, but he loves that hat and identifies with it “It’s Benny Jr. He’s a kid like me!”
Might be one of those things you couldn’t give 2 shits about if you don’t have kids.
Whenever he wears it out he gets tons of compliments, because it’s pretty rare.
Probably because Beaver fans are just excited to see a kid wearing gear. Hell I compliment Beavs I see around town, too. One guy is always at the coffee shop wearing Beav gear. He’s old and I compliment him. I think it’s just normal to get excited and compliment fellow Beavs when you see them. That doesn’t mean this logo isn’t awful, though. I think people compliment your kid because it’s cool to see a fellow Beav. Correlation /= causation.
If that’s 80s, then that puts this website at the 1950s
Minimalism is the opposite of the 1950s. In fact, it started around that period s a reaction to gaudy design. It also fits the site, which is no BS.
The 1950s also had very specific fonts and layouts.
The comic on the Beaver site fits — it is straight out of Archie, but some 80s comics (e.g. Healthcliff) adapted that look to a degree, too.
In short, your comment makes no sense. Minimalism/clean lines, etc is probably “hyper modern”.
Angry – I don’t know much about you but do you happen to be a graphic designer or something and that’s why you’re annoyed by this? I don’t think it’s that bad for what it is. I do agree though that the Benny costume is fucking stupid. They should keep it in some form for games but it shouldn’t be used for marketing.
However, I strongly disagree that they should just show the kids. Based on what I see on TV, Corvallis has the strangest looking children. That red headed kid in the picture is a perfect example. Or are all kids just weird looking? I live in NY so I rarely see kids.
No I’m not a graphic designer, but I’m very much into art like photography and music and can recognize good art vs bad. The beaver actually looks like clip art. Very sad.
Idea here for a thread if you’re into the idea. Does anyone play fantasy football? People here seem pretty knowledgeable and it could provide some useful information to consider heading into drafts. Once camp starts and more news starts coming out it may be difficult to find the time.
Anyone think Demarco Murray is worthy of a 1st round pick this year? Thoughts on Lynch?
I would say Murray will be feast or famine from week to week. Kelly likes to RBBC according to match-up, and Matthews is also there. It will take a couple games to see if Kelly really did destroy his O-line (and depth). So there’s that too.
If you have a chance, Bell should be your first RB pick. Then you could tandem him with McFadden as long as you handcuff him.
We have an AB fantasy football league.
Lynch is old. He’s going to break down soon. Murray is a safe 1st round pick, but he’s had a ton of carries over the past few years and that’s a concern.
Good point… he also had more than 400 carries last year. RBs don’t tend to do well after big work years. But if you grab him in a keeper league he could have greater known value in the future.
I owned McCoy last year, and he was awful in Kelly’s system. But I don’t think Kelly liked McCoy, and McCoy seemed to have lost a step. I’m not sure how Murray will pan out. Didn’t he have injury/hamstring problems his first year? So there’s that, the workload, and Kelly…the more I think about it the more I’m thinking I’d look elsewhere in the 1st round. WRs have more value in fantasy anyway these days. You can pickup someone like Hyde for cheap late in the draft and probably get good production.
In our keeper league I’m going with O. Beckham, Jordy Nelson, Dymarius Thomas, and Brandin Cooks, but I am considering Hyde since I got him for $1. D. Thomas could fade because Manning is 50 and started to look it by season’s end. I’m a bit worried about that.
because Manning was hurt and had a torn muscle. Id take Thomas in a heartbeat
No on Murray, yes on Lynch
I have a solution for both that is an actual cartoon character from the 50’s:

There. Run with that marketing department!
(I’m shaking my fist right now)
Yeah the real vintage benny is awesome. So now I’m conflicted. I made fun of this Archie looking 1950s Beaver, yet vintage Benny is great. I guess 1950s fine if it’s done right, like everything else in life.
Unfortunately this one is done wrong.
And do with it what Disney did with its animals. Just make the original smaller and change the hats to make kids.
We could call him Beanie Benny or Ball Cap Benny.
Benny Jr? …oh, wait
… for the score.
The Beavers should ditch Benny and put In-n-out burgers on their helmets. Now that would be hilarious and something to get behind just for the humor of it. The Beavs are in a real bind because nobody can figure out how to make a Beaver into a formidable/respectable mascot, design element, etc. They also have awful school colors, though they are slowly working away from those, thankfully, by changing the hues.
It would better to make a Beaver look regal than respectable or formidable. Wasn’t there some hockey logo or something someone posted here a while back where the Beaver looked pretty good?
Sailer Benny is great.
I’d say the In-n-out burger thing was the highlight of Riley’s career. It was pretty funny. And players act on incentives, so it was actually a good strategy. They should try to get In-n-Out to sponsor the stadium once this Reser thing ends (what is the status of that? And can a corporation that doesn’t have a donor affiliated with a school acquire naming rights on a stadium?).
Oh goody! Let’s go watch the Beavers play at In-N-Out Stadium.
Haha. Yep. It would be funny…at least that’s a likeable identity. Better than potato salad and a bed bug ridden costume.
In N Out is a natural for Beavers.
I see what you did there
Pro: good to create new generations of beavers
Con: that Benny belongs on a Shari’s kids menu
Angry Beavers and other fans are generally happy with the talent and depth of the offensive line, especially compared to other years. Yet if you look at the numbers of new recruits, especially the jc guys who need to play soon, it is pretty clear that the coaching staff is not all that impressed with the inherited situation. On the defensive side, current Pac 12 style of play requires teams to have many more dibs ready to play than linebackers. I am not sure of the ratio, but playing 5 dibs at the same time with 2 lbs will continue to be a trend. The lack of lb depth for the Beavers will not hurt as long as the number of capable and healthy dbs evolves.
