I am trying this Sprague/Machado podcast out. First episode aired today. I just started, so no opinion yet, but here you go if you’re interested.

I’m listening now. Machado is hilarious. She was such a supporter of Riley, yet she’s already saying there’s much more excitement around this camp. Duh, because Riley was a problem, which I told you over and over, Mamma.
Maybe more comments as I work through this thing.
At 5:50 Machado agrees with Sprague that people said OSU would never get a good coach. She said this…she was one of the biggest “be careful what you wish for”, and even posted an article with that headline on her site. Lololol
https://oregonstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1712544
Except she didn’t write that……
Technically correct, but the sentiment was a long-standing and unyielding irrational stance taken by that site and others for years. It comes from the same shared brain.
I didn’t say she wrote it. I said she posted the article on her site.
She also shared that sentiment in “the lodge”. I know because I had a trial and saw it. She was one of the biggest Riley apologists and all for selfish reasons — she had easy access.
I seem to remember her kinda souring on Riley his last year. Maybe last two? I saw a ton of tweets that were critical about the staff during games.
I think she was on the “make significant changes” boat instead of the fire Riley one though.
So much backtracking going on with that.
And can we please stop with the dam/damn play on words already? Jeeeesus, how many times do they have to say it?
Agree, it’s run it’s dam/damn course
Machado isn’t exactly on the ball when it comes to things that have run their course.
Mama, is that you?
These two need to learn how to work microphones. Machado’s is like 10-15db lower than Sprague’s.
There’s a Gina Mizell podcast somewhere I listened to once. Forgot where, but it was decent.
Gina and Conner did one on Oregonlive
I feel like I’ve heard the false media narrative topic somewhere before.

Machado loves Haskins? Don’t see it.
Mentions Brown will be slow to come back from the hip.
The podcast wasn’t bad. The mic issue was irritating. Hey Mamma — since I know you read the site, fix that mic issue.
If they do this with practice reports (or post practice reports for practices that are closed) and give detailed information it could be good. Otherwise I see it getting old pretty fast. Machado isn’t going to give any info either because she wants you to pay for that. I just don’t see this working out long-term. It’s basically going to be like that Joe Beaver show that I never listen to.
Hey, JB show is awesome – especially when Dave in Tumwater and scotty call in ;)
It has a nice laid-back tone which I enjoy. Good change from all the in-your-face sports talk trying too hard to be hip and edgy.
I’ve found the JB show to be pretty tedious; too much banter with the sidekick about how to get their equipment working and generally too much administrative BS and not enough “meat”. Laid-back tone is OK, but how about putting out some information?
The phone calls from listeners (Dave, scotty, the guy from Newberg, and others) are sometimes worthwhile and there is the occasional tidbit from coaches or players, but generally, less than 15% of the show provides any value.
Just my .02, and I do still plan to listen when it’s convenient. I know the show doesn’t run year-round, does it start up next week along with Fall Camp?
I only listened to it twice when I knew guys from here were calling in, but I was so bored while waiting for those calls.
I have listened to a couple of his podcasts, but its like you said it gets old pretty fast. Like most full-time jockey’s they get side track on other topics and they don’t really seem to dive into multiple issues, rather pick a theme and bang on that for the entire cast.
I love the idea of the podcast though, I think you should do one on here. I would do a pre-game one the night before the game and a post-game one done on Sunday or Monday (to give yourself some time to review the weekend and not react emotionally to the result) They don’t have to be more than 20-30 minutes, unless you got some interviews. Or you could periscope it.
Maybe you could get those other bloggers that wrote previews to a podcast with you?? Might help with your media credentials?
I’ve thought about doing one and in February I gauged interest in that (funny Mamma Machado has one a few months later…), but I’m not sure what a podcast would add. Did it add anything for Sprague or Machado? I listened, but I’m not sure I would again. Without a good source of inside info to discuss, I just don’t know what the podcast would add. Maybe before games and after, like you said, but other than that I can’t see the value of it compared to text — do people have less attention span and would rather listen than read? If that’s true maybe it has value.
I would pay attention to a beaverkman, silverstream, oob, podcast which analyzed the games, players’ performances and criticism/praise for coaching. Oh,and maybe some color from BG.
If I do a podcast, I’d want it to be interactive. Otherwise why would a listener listen? So the ways to do that are by taking calls, maybe interview the guys you mentioned, maybe creating a “best post of the week” award or some other award (we all act on incentive), leaving predictions for the end of the show, etc. This is the problem with most shows — they are just people blabbing and the listener isn’t involved. Analysis and information are everywhere, so I am not sure they carry enough weight or interest to justify a show. They can be in a show but not the focus, imo. It’s why Joe Beaver and most shows suck.
(Now watch Mamma Machado move to this exact format).
Also, to take calls for a pre-recorded podcast, they would have to be arranged ahead of time, which kills the impromptu mood of a “show”. I’m not sure how I’d take calls live — skype calls, and just route that into the recording device? I guess. The trolls would be a blast.
You’d just need tweet out that you’re taking calls, and still record them in real time during the podcast
I think I’ll do a test podcast with my lady and see if I like it and feel it’s up to par. If I do, I’ll start doing them each week before games. I have a ton of recording gear for music so I should be able to produce a quality output in that regard. I’ve just never hosted a show — no clue if it requires talent lol
the infamous whiskey would do a show with you. Napkins and all. Just throwing it out there
It would turn into Wayne’s World with you noodling on Winger riffs
naw. I’d give my napkin of the week to the star player of last weekends game lol
3, 2 and 1 napkin awards (instead of stars). I could market this shit
Not a bad idea!
That’s a 3 napkin post.
Kip Winger is not amused

That guy looks like he could breast feed.
I thought he was talking about Debra Winger’s dog… and it looks like I wasn’t too far off.
Kip? Someone gives their child the name Kip?
Interesting quote:
Larry Scott on biggest difference in coaching staffs: “Andersen allows you to let your beast out”
That just sounds wrong
Explains the need for a bigger locker room.
Did Lenny Kravitz play for Andersen?
Gina has an article up on O live looking at GAs career. It again tries to highlight that Oregon State and Corvallis is a potentially dead-end job/situation.
It’s a goddam travesty that the local media doesn’t try to highlight its positive attributes – e.g. one of the best college towns in the world, and instead rehashes an opinion that is primarily held by Oregon fans in an effort to “make fun” of Oregon State.
I generally like Gina but that article could have just as easily come from Schnell or that Blonde gal that covers the Ducks.
I don’t get that sense. It sort of cuts through the bullshit narrative when talking about Logan and Corvallis and how small town and security can easily be used as selling points by someone with half a brain. It also gives the sense that Riley left the team in tatters, which is where I think the “crazy” comments come from. Who would want to take over a losing proposition made that way by complacency and neglect?
I may have missed something, but that wasn’t my take. The vibe, for me, was that Andersen isn’t afraid of a challenge and, given the strength of the PAC along with the Riley “culture” he has one in OSU. In other articles the new staff, just like Rueck and Tinkle, has highlighted the many positives of Corvallis/OSU.
Since your observation was about Gina and not the staff, I will say that she seems more fact based than Lindsay ever was and has introduced worthwhile features aimed at analysis of the game. However, if you check her twitter, she is just as focused on food.
Back to the article, there were a few comments from readers about Andersen’s “disloyalty”, but what I especially liked was the photo of him and Villamin walking to practice together.
Bottom line, so far Andersen seems equal to the challenge. It took some time for Schnell and Goe to solidify the negative narrative about Corvallis/OSU but I’m betting about 3 years of results will bury that stance. 3 years, wonder if Riley will still be at NU then….those poor bastards!
I’m ready for some football!
