      • Had the D just given up or are they being manhandled?

I think GA wants to clean house, upping schollie number to 25 and taking mostly D players…makes me think the defenders have given up.

    • Absolutely inept. Only one good play by Lucas when didn’t go down at line of scrimmage, sprung for 73 yards until he was run down if a foot race where he had all the advantage. So 1st and goal at the 8 ended with a missed roughly 35 yard field goal. Otherwise, 1-9? On passing for 1 yard. WA returned s punt for TD.

    • Mitchell was terrible in every way.

Lucas had a beautiful 70 yard run where he got run down by a 220# linebacker on the 10 yard line (???????????).

Storm hyphen still runs in to the back of his linemen.

      One Nall carry?

        • Yeah it’s strange. My 11 year old step son is a fucking streak of lightning. Can’t even hear his feet touch the ground. Put on real pads this last year and it fucked him all up. Runs really funky, slow and flopping side to side. Odd.

  1. Since this game is a complete waste, i have a football rules question for anybody that knows.
I noticed when the Huskies got their delay of game penalty, the clock kept rolling as they prepared for their next play. Is that normal? Or did t he officials just screw up by not stopping the clock? If the clock keeps running, couldn’t a team just run out the clock by repeatedly getting delay of game penalties?

  2. Posted this in the other thread but didn’t get answer.

So does Noah Togiai get to start practicing with the basketball team immediately after the Civil War and then play in the next basketball game on December 3rd?

I assume he’ll be way behind in learning the schemes, gelling with the team, and just rusty with his basketball skills in general… How much is he expected to play this year?

  3. This ain’t gonna get an easier for the players next year. The Pac is only getting better. The coaches better learn how to use their players to their strengths or it will be another ugly year.

  4. Every Saturday now, I get up and I ask myself, “Who are we losing to today? Oh, I see. It’s [insert any other team’s name here].” At least the basketball team looked decent while I was watching them. 4-0 for the first time since when?

My brother told me today that this reminds him of when Pettibone took over…

    • Understand why I hate Parker yet?

Silver lining is there are two 4-star DTs there who can play right away next year, and this type of effort should make that clear to them.

  5. Okay, you know I rightfully blame Riley for most of this, but I am starting to wonder if we made the right hire, or if the new staff made some major mistakes. I suspect GA and crew wrote this off as a sacrificial year. There is no way the players are THIS bad.

      • GA was/is a great hire. Not sure about Sitake and Baldwin. Never was high on Sitake and wanted to be proven wrong on him. So far, that hasn’t happened.

Sitake seems like a guy riding great coaches’ coattails but not a great coach himself. Not sure why they all love him, tbh

        • I’m a little concerned there with Andersen being a defensive guy. I can see why he hasn’t stepped in with Baldwin, but I wonder what his influence is on Sitake’s poor showing.

        • Do you feel differently about Diet Coke than a few of weeks ago? Just not seeing any kind of progression has me worried about this staff, especially the Coordinators… I’m hoping GA isn’t just a spin doc because he tells it like it is and never seems to deflect which I respect but man, we really suck shit.

        • Do you understand what rebuilding entails?

Usually 5 years. Maybe you should go into hibernation if you can’t handle it. This one will probably only take 3 years.

          • I refuse to believe the players are this horrible. Bad, yes. Infected with Riley’s “aw shucks maybe we’ll beat ’em next year” crap, sure. But not this inept. There is no choice but to believe in GA, but I think they sacrificed this year, and that’s a shame.

          • A lot of injuries and guys who never bought in. When GA arrived he basically laughed at the strength numbers.

GA is a man with a plan and will succeed. The only way I see failure: (a) never finds a QB (b) assistant coaches stink yet he sticks with them.

          • No I had them at 5 wins, but everyone in the mainstream media has them at 2 wins and did think they’d be this bad.

There was no way to predict the internal problems (guys not buying in), weak players (awful strength figures), attrition, injuries, and general mayhem.

I don’t even think GA thought it would be this bad, but I do think once he realized it was he began the process of cleaning house (e.g. scholarships went from 12 to 25), he cut guyton, and probably make it known to others they should leave. He’s not patient and doing his best to get this rebuild done by year 3, which would be a miracle tbh

          • Angry, you think our receivers are still talented? Yes, we don’t have a QB but as a unit they’ve regressed, don’t you think? Did we all like Brennen because of his energy vs. tye rest of Opie’s staff? If he’s a good receivers coach I certainly didn’t see his magic this year.

          • Yeah, the receivers are talented. Villamin will probably make the NFL.
Bolden played better as a freshman than he is this year, so I don’t know what is up with him, but it is mental. Jarmon has battled injury. Guyton was destined for greatness but messed up. I’ve always been most high on Villamin and Jarmon, and still think they’re very good, and this year winds up being an aberration.

        • I believe, at some point, the players were weary of publicly hearing and reading that they needed to put on their big boy pants, that they weren’t tough enough, that they had no talent. That and things like not playing Ryan Nall against Utah because their interior OL was “too good” and putting Markus McMaryion in that horrible situation up against the goal line, then immediately pulling him after the pick. Perhaps GA will do better with his own recruits but I’m not believing that just yet.

None of this year’s team had been recruited to play in GA’s system and yet he couldn’t seem to accommodate that very much, if at all. He definitely talks the talk – I’ll be interested to see next year’s walk.

For very different reasons, Richard Mullaney and Darrell Songy were spared this year’s ignominy. Mullaney is probably congratulating himself all the way to the College Playoffs and Songy? – who knows.

        • Normally you come across as rational and sane Scotty. Not here though. GA is going to move us forward. Give him more than a few months before you throw in the towel.

          • Not throwing in the towel on the current staff. Questioning how they’ve handled this year, and seeds of doubt forming. They will probably turn things around, but not having any questions after seeing 41-0 and 52-7 is a bit insane to me.

    • There is no way the players are THIS bad.

They are this bad. This is the leftovers of a 5 win team, a team that was very fortunate to win that many games last year with bsaically an all senior defense and a 5th year QB and an ‘established’ offense. We returned 2 guys on defense both of whom sucked. We lost a QB, significant other parts of the offense.

These players suck, that is a fact. That fact sucks, but it’s still a fact.

  6. Let’s be honest he came in and changed the culture. Only a number of guys have bought in, it’s not easy to assimilate to a new system or culture. I still think Riley would have won 2 more game just based on that perspective. Andersen will bring his own guys in and turn it around in the next 2-3 years.

  7. Seriously with Peterson. Going for it on fourth down and bitching at the refs for an obvious false start. Someone punch that ay hole in the throat.

  8. for the 3rd consecutive year I won’t be watching the civil war. As a beaver fan surrounded by ducks (family and work), depressing would be an understatement. I honestly thought this team would get someone in the last 4 games and I was wrong. Injuries, players mailing it in or whatever else reasons I cannot fathom, this team has regressed to the point of not even close to being competitive. On to hoops season

  9. This was the one game of the year that I got to watch with my dad. He was on the original Giant Killer team. His perspective has always kept me in check, until this year. After the first quarter, he was done. Depressed, sad, and beaten. He said he didn’t want to go through another 28 years of losing seasons, he won’t make it that long.
I spent the next 3 quarters highlighting the positives, Ovgard, from K Falls, and other young guys making plays. I told him about the recruiting class, better than any Riley ever had. I did my best to keep his hopes up
In the end, he said they played like they did in the “dark ages” and just doesn’t believe you can turn a team around quickly enough for him to be able to enjoy it. Made we wish there was a camera on the wall, recording every bit of it. So I could show it to the coach, the players and recruits. These old timers are fed up with the flashy, money bought, team down south. They don’t have the patience to wait 3 years for the turn around, because they don’t know if they have 3 years. My old man wants to see the Beavers win “the right to live in the state” one more time before he moves on, I hope GA and his players have the same sense of urgency that he has.
This game needs to buried, never mentioned again, and called that “rock bottom” moment. Upward from here Beavs! Give em hell next week!

  10. I hate to complain about refereeing in a blowout loss like this but there were 2 calls that pissed me off and wanted some input on as I just watched the game by myself and my wife.

What did you guys think of that call after the review of the JV catch sliding out of the end zone in the first quarter? I thought it should have been reversed; he was clearly forced out of the back of the end zone and I thought he made a clean grab.

Other one was the interference to catch the kick. They didn’t show a replay but on initial look I thought out player just times it right.

    • Agree on both. The JV catch looked like a catch. His knee slid through the end zone. If it was originally ruled a catch, it would have stood. The catch interference I don’t know, saw what you saw. Didn’t seem like a legitimate call. Looked like his own guy hit him.

    • What did you guys think of that call after the review of the JV catch sliding out of the end zone in the first quarter?

Clearly he was pushed out and it was clearly a catch.

Other one was the interference to catch the kick.

Clearly not kick catch interference, dude was 1.5 yards from the returner when he caught the ball.

  11. The only way OSU has a chance in the Civil War!
I might get some s&#t for this… But I won’t be watching the civil war this year! In fact, I’m willing to sign a petition begging the University to forfeit, or implement a mercy rule. Hole could score 100 points on this OSU team. Hell, I’d pay money to watch someone lay puddles the f#^k out! Enjoy the footage below.

  12. here’s an interesting hoops tidbit

The last time the Beavers started a season 5-0 was 1986 when Gary Payton was a freshman.

  13. Back to back home games where we left at Halftime. Wow.
I think GA has lost this team, no effort on any side of the ball.
I still give him a pass, but if we lose recruits because of this, then that will really hurt.
I mean you would think we could at least run for 2 yards per carry every time and get something at least positive. but no blocking, no running, and no tackling.
When Lucas got run down by a LB I knew we had nothing.

Very disappointing, but programs have to go through this to rebuild (Cal, Colorado, WSU, UW, etc) have all been through this. We will take our lumps and remember them for payback.
There will be better days, just hard to see from deep down this hole.

      • agreed talent level is not there. Just felt the effort wasn’t there too many one on one battles lost, throwing behind receivers so bad the defender tried to kick the pass was one example. But didn’t have a good angle. But it does come down to talent, thanks for the correction, our seats are not the best. I think we did win the Ray Guy award though today.

    • Travis Feeney (ran down Lucas) clocked 40 yard dash time 4.44s in 2014, third fastest on the team. Feeney’s pads and helmet are probably on 5% of his total weight, compared to Lucas’ 25%.

      • Good point, didn’t think about how heavy the pads are per body weight. I stand corrected thanks for that. Man would hate to have seen the first and second fastest on their team.

        • WR John Ross was hand-clocked at the Husky Combine at 4.29. He’s been out all season knee; WR Marvin Hall was 4.4. His stats are pretty light, i’d assume he’s been injured this season too. Maybe that’s why the only scored 52.

          • Dam, that’s fast. I remember John Ross we lost that recruiting battle, wanted to get him here.

I could be wrong but I think they only scored 52 points because they were running the ball all second half, went for it on every fourth down just to keep the clock running with their fourth string running back. So, our backups against theirs played the second half even 7-7.

Don’t know how to quote here; ran out of “reply.” Good point about backups vs. backups and running the ball. They definitely took the foot off the gas a bit. Ross was before I started paying attention to recruiting.

  14. I really, really hope McCaffrey wins the Heisman. Not just because I respect Stanford’s style of play, but also because it’s about time we had a running back win the award again.

If we could get someone on the Beavers even half as talented as him, the team would be set for a while.

    • Don’t forget the Stanford OL is top notch. In the last couple of years one of the Stanford classes contained the best OL recruiting class in the nation.

  15. I’m back and can’t say I’m sorry I missed the football game.

But FWIW I did get to watch the basketball game.

Here’s the FWIW part: I had a window open for the bb game stream and for some reason I hit the pause button. When I came in the game was over and again for some reason, I clicked on play and lo and behold the entire game was setting there waiting for me to watch it. I didn’t realize something like this was possible so it might have been a one time deal.

  16. YO yall whut dis crap goin down>?? ;( Deez boyZ be looki’n like straight trash u know? Concinder dis da end of Texas recruiting. Aint nobody playin for yall again.

Mike Riley was ok but dis new guy seemz racsist yall

  17. Haha, you can’t let this kind of crap get to you. This is weak trolling. We’re going to get bored Duck fans trolling us more and more as long as the Beavs are down. It makes it easier for them because they know the Beavs are no threat to their silver platter football program. All of this crap will just make it that much sweeter when the Beavs punk their asses in a couple years.

      • Ha! I was talking to my cousin a few weeks back who is a HUGE Ducks fan…clothing, Oregon O on his truck…he said the three losses made it clear who were the “bandwagon” fans…and that “you just knew something wasn’t right with Vernon Adams, you knew he was injured, and then Oregon let people know his hand was broken…” etc etc.

He did not graduate from UO, nor did he attend it, nor did his family members….he is the epitome of bandwagaon…

So this year they have 2 decent victories over bowl-qualified teams correct? 3 losses, other wins over nobody special, and no faith in the QBs on their roster as evidenced by Adams presence and the backups performance. Oh, and they have one of the worst defenses in the country.

Their recruiting remains strong though, so they should stay relevant in-league; IF they can find a qb play and radically improve their defense. They better not give Pellum too much time though. Waitaminnit! That sounds like…

        • Is the incoming QB talent FR? Or are you saying that have a RSFR QB next year that didn’t play this year? Are their redshirt freshmen well-distributed across offense and defense?

  18. MM looked better today, still sloppy at times. Lucas nice run, needs to learn to high step but he was probably drained from pin balling through the contact.

  19. First, thank you Stanford.

Second, anyone think they can beat Notre Dame and thereby get into the CFP? Would be nice to have some PAC representation.

    • Stanford absolutely can beat Notre Dame and I think they will. However, no team with 2 losses that doesn’t hail from the SEC or named Notre Dame is getting into the playoff

    • What’s funny is the Oregonian is hyping shit like “the Ducks are the hottest team in the nation” too bad about Adams injury or they would be fighting for the playoffs. One article said something like they “blasted Stanford”. If I remember correctly if Hogan could have handled two fucking snaps. they probably win going away, not quite a “blasting”. Fuck I hate the Ducks!

  20. I think I’ve lost all intresting in college football for the year. The only compelling part left is to watch Nebraska lose next week……please let them lose. And I’m sick of hearing the word “parody” when talking college football. It’s just shitty football. I think this is the worst year of football I can remember, overall, not just the beavs.

  21. WSU is having a good season. I have a feeling Leach will be leaving WSU for a warmer college soon. Anyone looking to rebuild will want him now.

  22. Come back, Seth. We were wrong. You’re (technically) a PAC 12 QB. And these guys saying you have a vulva were just joking around (I think.)

    I miss AIR COLLINS ;_;

  23. It’s hard to watch, but I think you can’t underestimate injuries and then the subsequest depth of this team also. They played competitive halves against two very good teams in Michigan and Stanford and won the two games they were supposed to and then injury after injury began piling up.. I’m not saying they would have won any more games, but we may not have seen this level of non-competitive play. Seth Collins was the best QB by far because of his ability to run and that’s not saying he’s the QB of the future either.

    • Yes, talent and injuries are a reality but this team is absolutely weak mentally. GA talks every week about toughness and this team just doesn’t have it. Some of it due to Hee Haw Riley but most of it because the players aren’t used to grinding through imo.

    • That first scoring drive against Michigan – well executed and right down the field- seems like it happened one or two seasons ago…

  24. Eggers with a lengthy piece on Andersen, OSU’s future:

    Some highlights for me:

Andersen’s complimentary remarks of Riley and staff sound like complete BS but coaches rarely speak negatively about one another.

“Andersen didn’t like going into August training camp with Collins, Mitchell and Marcus McMaryion still competing for a starting role at QB.

“We’re not going to go through that again,” Andersen says. “I’m not comfortable carrying this thing through the summer, with all the drama of wondering who the hell the quarterback is going to be. I’m not going to do that. We’ll make a decision in the spring. It absolutely has to be someone who can throw the ball consistently.” ….

“Oregon State’s offense next season will continue to have the spread as its base, but will be more of a hybrid.

“We need to be an offense that has an identity to run the ball,” he says. “I’m not saying two backs in the backfield and grind it out. I’m not saying we’re going to play fast every snap, either. I see us down the road as a team that can run the ball and have effective wide receivers. Do we want to play with four wideouts sometimes? Yes. We also want to play tight ends at times. We have three tight ends back who I really like — Caleb (Smith), Noah (Togiai) and Brent (VanderVeen) — and we’re going to use those kids. But we’ll also be in spread formation, too.”

Andersen envisions an offense much like that employed by Sonny Dykes at Cal.” (This seems inconsistent with previous statements and I wonder if Andersen/Baldwin are trying to be so diverse that they don’t do anything well?)

…”I want to be able to be a drop-back team that can have threats at different spots, with play-action and some bells and whistles,” he says. “We’ll run the quarterback as needed, but I don’t want to be a running quarterback team. We don’t want the quarterback to carry the ball 10 to 15 times a game. …”

The Beavers appear stacked at the running back position…a crowded field returning will include Paul Lucas….We’re going to keep him back there and let him keep running,” Andersen says. “We’ll put him in the cafeteria and let him eat. He’ll get stronger. He’s unbelievably competitive and a physical kid for his size.

…There is so much talent at running back that it wouldn’t be a surprise to see redshirt freshman Ryan Nall moved to another position in the spring. ” (I hope this is just Eggers speculation. But maybe Andersen is desperate for some LBs?)

“”We have to drastically improve at the defensive line and linebacker positions,” Andersen says. “You have to be able to rush with four. We’ve not been able to do it. At linebacker, we need to be better in all areas.” ‘

    http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/282060-158517-gary-andersen-talks-oregon-state-football-%C3%82%20the-struggles-of-this-year-and-how-the-beavers-will-get-better

    • Feels like they have all of their eggs in the Garretson basket, but one fluke injury will turn next year into this year. Really wish they had one more option at qb next year, not including SC/NM/MM and assuming Moran redshirts.

Totally agree with your comment about them trying to be too diverse on offense (or was that eggers?)

  25. Here’s an interesting stat from Eggers from yesterday’s “game”:

“NOTES: Washington’s defense was on the field so little, the Huskies were credited for only 45 tackles to 96 for Oregon State. The most tackles any Husky player had was three.”

Will be interesting to see if UO needs less than 45 tackles in the blowout next week…

  26. OT: I told you guys Wisky fans have a high percentage of a-holes.

Snowballs from Badger fans lead to ejections, injuries

I suppose d-line quality control staff has some stats that suggest this is more a front problem than a pourous secondary? Like length of time from snap to throw? Our passes defended stats vs. competition are awful.

  28. Duplicate post, but put it in the wrong spot:

“”We have to drastically improve at the defensive line and linebacker positions,” Andersen says. “You have to be able to rush with four. We’ve not been able to do it. At linebacker, we need to be better in all areas.” ‘

  29. What’s the consensus on the Kongbo kid? I think we got played, Washington was in his top 3, he just showed for the free shit. Thoughts?
