ESPN2 at 5pm.
I’m going with 78-58, Kansas. I don’t think the Beavs are mentally ready for this type of game yet, especially on the road. It could be worse than 20. Hope to be wrong.
The lady Beavs play at 2pm, so I’m starting the thread early and it can cover women and the men’s game. The ladies look to have a layup in Idaho.
Tinkle will have them ready to play. No pressure on them really. They are young though and playing away is tough. They will do well in the first half but fade at the end.
90-68 Kansas.
90-68 doesn’t sound all that ready
Final score 82 – 67. They had a great first half.
Anyone know of a stream for the women’s game?

Or, look here: https://twitter.com/OregonStateWBB
And, Idaho may not be a pushover; record this year includes a win over Iowa St (by 32), and a 6 point loss to Duke in Cancun.
Going to have to shoot around 50% to win.
The star players are going to have to rise up to win this game. It means Payton can’t be shut down, Thompson, Tinkle, and Eubanks all go for 12-20 points.
Less than 10 turnovers. Keep the rebounding even. Force shots late while on defense.
86-67
This is one of those games. Would like to see our guys compete, but almost nobody should reasonably expect a win. I think Tinkle will try to slow it down. Not sure it will work. Kansas by 20 or so.
Agree…this is the kind of game they’re not going to be competitive in– not yet at least. I too hope to be wrong. Kansas by 20.
Shaping up to be a fairly bad day for the Pac-12.
ASU getting blown out by Kentucky. No surprise there, but if you keep it close, it does help the power rankings. Utah down big to a 4-4 Wichita State team. Cal even with St. Mary’s, need them to win that game.
Cal won 63-59. Also UCLA plays at Gonzaga tonight, the Buffs host a decent BYU team and Oregon is even a 2.5 pt road dog at Boise St. Day isn’t over yet.
Gabby is on fire today!
Idaho can’t buy a basket.
Marie playing tough.
20-4 good gals at end of 1.
The evolution of Gulich from just last season is pretty outstanding on both sides of the court. She’ll be solid as a starter next year.
Coaching!
Pretty offensive play to end the half to get a layup for Brown, Beavs up 33-24. Bet they come out with intensity after the break.
Idaho out rebounding the Beavs by 28-25.
Kalmer has a far better handle and shot than I imagined as a young freshman. Handles the ball solidly on the perimeter. D definitely needs some improvement, she’s looked lost a few times both this game and a few other times I’ve seen her this year.
Nice stretch at the end of the qtr for Marie. Beavs outscore Idaho 20-5 in 3rd qtr.
87-69 Kansas. Beavs keep it under 20. Closest we get in 2nd half is down 6. However, if Payton and Eubanks have great games maybe OSU keeps it closer and only lose by 12-14. I want to see defensive effort at a high level and offensive smarts.
Anyone know if we are recruiting Jason Talley from Jesuit?
He looks real good in his senior year highlights
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmfBoI-zqtI
Wish I could watch the game. GoBeavs
I thought it was on espn2. Or are you working?
Holiday party
I hate that this game is on ESPN2. Beavs setup for another National embarrassment.
Have they ever won a big game on ESPN other than USC?
I’m hoping for a miracle, but the intensity of these top teams (just watched the last few minutes of Michigan State) is much higher than the Beavs.
Okay, Debbie Downerville in here. Self usually lays a couple turds each year, maybe this is one. Tinkle needs to get the ball to fall, LMW and Eubanks play Nalls out, and Schafty plays D. Maybe? And this is one of those special beer nights: a four year old Black Butte XXIII
Beavs can’t even get a shot off on their first possession. Ominous start. They might not score 50.
I’ll take it over an air ball.
I like the effort so far, except for Olaf and Tinkle on D.
Kansas is pretty aggressive. Need to stay out of foul trouble.
Wow, that guy Greene is a loser.
Just hits Tinkle in the neck area for no reason.
That was a clear 3 pointer by MD. They only awarded 2?
I was thinking the same thing. Clearly well outside the 3 point line. Should be 19-9. WTF???
so many whistles
turnovers, fouls. losing composure
Is it wrong when I get excited that Olaf has 3 fouls and has to sit most of the game?
They just talk about tinkle banking in a 3, what is wrong with that? They make it sound like a bad thing.
It’s basically a 3 point miss.
How so? I’m not basketball savvy.
usually you’re not trying to bank it in, so if you do it’s often just a positive result of a poor shot.
Tinkle just bombing away from downtown, holy shit he’s on fire.
Tinkle is Larry Bird-esque, as I said in earlier posts. He just had to get the yips out.
Been wondering how long that would take. Glad it’s falling today.
Tinkle is just flushing those tres.
This is impressive…mostly the D.
Kansas is shooting like shit, and I have to think that’s because the Beavs brought the intensity from last year, which we haven’t seen until this point. I bet Tinkle told them before the game to beat these guys you have to play D like last year.
I still think Kansas is going to go on a major run that the Beavs will have to weather. At this point on offense I’d try to shorten the first half by taking shots deeper in the shot clock.
Need to keep the lead by half time. Kansas will make a run in the second half. Just have to keep up effort.
refs not calling it both ways, thnak god Jayhawks can’t make FT
Morris Walker got killed. No call. Other end ticky tack gets a call
I think Tinkle and Reid should take ALL Olaf’s minutes, unless the Beavs are down at the end of a game and need 3s. Team is so much better without him on the court.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does that dunk count as two dunks?
It went in twice
GP II with the MJ dunk…whew
That Payton dunk might beat the Jared Cunningham as best all time by a Beav.
This is awesome. Feel I am being setup for heartbreak
Not going to shoot that well from 3pt land in the 2nd half, but we also don’t have too just don’t need to be ice cold just hit our avg and we should be okay. The thing that worries me are the fouls, and getting into foul trouble. I expect a Kansas run, got to weather that storm and hope the legs stays strong and the adrenaline doesn’t zap their energy. I know I am wired right now.
Agreed, I want to call people I know and tell them to watch the second half. But I’m keeping my mouth shut.
Shhhhhh it’s okay… Riley and his football yanking are gone now, and CR is off who knows (or cares) where…. Everything will be all right
CR (if anyone cares) is still doing color for espn. Did pretty well during the Purdue game the other day and clearly is doing his homework prior to the games. Not a bad gig.
It’s going to be awkward when he covers the Beavs in the Dance.
Honestly the Beavs should be up 20 if this was remotely called evenly. Kansas getting every call under the sun, beavs getting free prostate exams.
They are being rewarded for being more aggressive. If the beavs were more aggressive they’d get more calls too. Stephen should drive more. He could get a few calls easy.
he did once. got mugged and the ball taken away with no call. Wanna try again? Maybe Tinks needs to pull a Bobby Knight and throw a chair to get his point across
You know Kansas is going to make a run….but having an 11-pt. cushion going in, well you couldn’t ask for much more. Kansas shooting like crap, especially FT’s . That will probably change.
We’re getting a taste of what OSU basketball could become with WT as head coach.
Here’s hoping WWIII doesn’t happen before we get to savor it.
Keep it going Beavs!
Ugh
That ally oop was a thing of beauty.
I predict 39-28 at half. !!!
Swami
MD with lazy ball handling. Wow
Here we go. Meltdown time.
They cannot get into an up and down game with Kansas. Need to slow down the pace.
It’s weird to feel so negative about a 11 point and now 5 point lead. I feel guilty for feeling so negative. But I’ve watched enough sports, and specifically Beaver sports, to just sense what’s coming.
Hope I continue to be wrong!
That’s a normal response when playing the #2 team that can score like a mo-fo.
Add to that the foul situation.
If they show a crowd shot there is a 1in15 chance of me losing my anonymity. In da house.
20 point loss here we come!
they should get confidence from that first half, tho.
KU up 5 and sinking everything…well fun while it lasted!!
really?? no more timeouts?
wow
Why do people think Reid is any good? He’s a disaster. Reminds me of that Native Anerican guy that seemed to never go away.
Minus the gay shoes
Joe Burton. Really slimmed down on the Dutch Diet.
Kansas can’t shoot 10-11 the rest of this half. Got to stay poised
Total fouls
Kansas – 8
Beavs – 16
I’ll give KU some credit but the beavs get zero respect. Tough to win playing 5 on 8
KU has more athletic players and is more aggressive going to the rim. They will naturally get more foul calls.
so the Beavs never took the ball aggressively to the basket? Fucking bullshit. Did you even watch the game?
payton is having a bad game with his ball handling
The avalanche is happening.
Looks like Reid re-injured his foot
Good
This was his 2nd game back after returning from a stress fracture in his foot. Wow, applauding an injury because you think a player sucks? You sound like duck fan. Dick
Looked like a nut shot. Are they reporting it as a re-injury?
Looks like a total different team after the half.
Mike Parker just had a case of napkins from Costco delivered to the press table. Not a good sign.
It looks like the adrenaline faded in the second half, they didn’t bring the defensive effort they did in 1st half. I am surprised he didn’t go with N’Daye in the second after Olaf left with 4 fouls. I think we could’ve used his length. Reid is decent but it looks like he doesn’t have all his legs and conditioning yet.
Drew is doing a great impression of Olaf tonight.
Final thoughts – Reid is my least favorite player. If he could learn to pass I’d say he is serviceable. I don’t like Roland either but I’d rather the ball in the hands of RS than Reid. That fuckin guy, man. Terrible.
Roland? 2008 called and wants its point forward back.
Roeland
you don’t even know who the current players are?
Payton no steals
How about a thread for the final round of the national finals rodeo?
End result sort of expected, but I was disappointed to see them get blitzed so badly in the second half. Really poor shooting over long stretches of the game. I know Eubanks has got a lot of room for growth, but it would be nice it he could get some low post offense, like a consistent jump-hook, turn-around jumper, or the Jabbar sky-hook–something other than the put-back dunk or alley-oop dunk. Probably something he’ll hopefully develop over his career, not necessarily this year perhaps.
I can totally see him develop a nice baby hook.
He had a nice jump hook today.
Yep…he made one today.
Sucks to be beat by 29 in the 2nd half by just 6 players from KU. Didn’t see Tinkle get many good looks at 3’s in the 2nd half. Thompson struggled as you kinda suspect he might against elite competition where he can get shots tipped or be forced to have them slightly off target just to keep them from being tipped. Payton’s steal streak came to an end 1 game ahead of his pop’s. Losing all your timeouts in the 2nd half with 13 minutes left is kinda ridiculous too. Beavs a little too casual with the in bounds game at times.
Beaver formula for big wins will remain defense this year. Tonight showed again that it can be a huge factor but can’t be for 20 minutes. Tenacious D has to be applied for the full 40 minutes.
I can see having a healthy Goomis as a good benefit. Some experienced length and defensive pressure. We really could have used him today for defense. But the defense will only be as good as our perimeter players are. They need to close out better after the top of the key screens. Their help defense improved, but Kansas being disciplined made the extra pass and often caught us slow in rotations. Malcolm just isn’t giving us enough leadership.
Good effort, showed they can compete. But we have some holes in our lineup.
Gomis still out indefinitely. Had some sort of setback.
“Some sort of setback” is his go-to move
The passing/moving the ball, looks terrible, compared to top 25 schools. Is that similar to the arm tackling in football? Just can’t figure out fundamentals? It just looks like they grabbed 5 guys out of the stands to try and pass the ball around.
I didn’t see it mentioned, but I thought Thompson Jr. played out of control at times and was the one freshmen who looked overwhelmed by the competition. I’m surprised Bruce did not play earlier in the game. I wish it had been a closer game, but at least they made some noise in the first half on the road against the #2 in the nation. Also, the Ducks lost again and should drop out of the Top 25.
That was an awesome first half. That was a slightly disheartening second half. Kansas decided to sub only one guy and keep their best players in and it paid off. And I fully expected what happened; Kansas is an explosive offensive team with solid defense. They made a run and didn’t look back.
Olaf is super slow on the screen and roll defense, and his man-whether it was Ellis or #42 or Bragg was able to consistently step out for mid-range jumpers. KU shot the lights out period, and Selden is a monster. Mason is really good, and Graham is a great guard. They have so much talent. But this loss isn’t a poor one, and they will learn a lot from this. I expect to see that first half against some of the teams in our conference, but unlike KU, they won’t be able to come back so fast. And they won’t be in front of 18,000 fans against them.
I checked out jordan agasiva’s highlights. He’s a pancaking machine. Would be a great run blocking tackle it looks like.
Ouch, glad I didn’t watch this one. To be up 11 at half and know they’re still going to lose would have been pretty crushing.
That’s fair weather fan bullshit. Nut the f**k up.
Not a fair weather fan, sorry to break it to you. I’ve been posting here since this was a blog, through shitty team after shitty team. You’ve been around a couple years. Fuck off.
Length of time means nothing. You fuck off. You’re glad you didn’t watch.
You’re goddamn right I’m glad I didn’t watch. For 20 fucking years I’ve been watching the Beavs play great for a half, know they’re still going to lose and force myself to watch the implosion anyway. Then some fucktard like you comes along calling me a fairweather fan? Go fuck yourself, we all need a break once in a while.
I’m certain there’s plenty of other programs in the northwest you could go root for that don’t have 2nd half collapses. You seriously wanna rag on WT, some upperclassmen and freshman for getting rat fucked on the road by the 2nd ranked team in the nation and refs???? Bendbeaver is right. Go fuck yourself. Not only are you a piece of shit, your dad should’ve pulled out sooner.
LOL … only a moron cant see things are on the up-tick. Gave the no 2 team in the nation a real run for their money for ovrer a half, on the road. Quatre — I suggest suicide, assisted or otherwise…
That response (suicide) is no better than being glad for not having watched the game.
This fucktard understands being a fan can be trying, I also have a different understanding of loyalty. I guess we’ll see you when the Beavs play the bottom half of the Pac and it’s more of a sure win.
Apparently loyalty eludes your grasp too, as I’ve got 20 years of it at my back.
Sure thing. Hey, I’ve never been “glad” I missed a game, so I got that going for me.
So you’ve been a dick for 20 years? Your poor family. Maybe there’s a 12 step recovery process for you?
Easy big fellas, easy.
People always ask me; why angry beavs?
Shut up!
Quatre is a good fan, dude has been here forever and always has good insight. For Quatre to be disgusted they lost to Kansas isn’t smart, especially when they hung around for so long. Overall that was a promising game.He has the right not to watch a game if he doesn’t want to, and it doesn’t mean he’s a bad fan. It most likely means he had something else he’d rather do or something more important. This doesn’t make someone fair weather, and frankly, being a fair weather fan makes a lot more sense, logically. Why root for, or waste precious hours of your life, on a bad product? I sometimes watch the bad teams to look for something interesting, like growth and development. Sometimes I don’t. It depends. But it doesn’t make me fair weather. Just means I know how to budget time and won’t waste any. I hate this idea that if you watch awful football or basketball it’s some kind of badge of honor and you’re someone paying your dues and move into the upper echelon of fans. Nope, but keep patting yourself on the back for wasting your life.
That makes a lot sense to me. There were times this year where I quit watching Beaver football games by halftime. It doesn’t mean I’m not a devoted fan, it just means if the product is bad, I can’t or won’t always invest maximum time. Some years, I’ve watched damn near every minute of every game. If the Beavs had been down by 25 at halftime against KU, I probably would have turned it off.
So OSU basketball is now a bad product? Wait I thought WT turned it around, and we were on an up-swing?
I find it funny someone can claim fandom, and have no intrest in watching a match up against a for sure final four team, just to watch the match up. I find that more interesting than a UCSB/LMU match up anyday, win or loss.
I was talking specifically about football this year. I think many times it was an uncompetitive, bad product. And Power 5 college football is big business where good product is a requirement. Personally, I was merely saying if the baskeball team was down 25 at halftime to an opponent I would probably go do something else. I don’t think that makes me a bad OSU fan, but maybe others think it does.
Even during the 0-18 season, I would watch the beginning of many games, but most were over by halftime. Also, thanks to the P-12 Network (which I don’t get and won’t pay extra for), it takes me more effort to watch games than in the past, it’s funny 10 years ago living in another starte I could watch more OSU games at better times than now.
So OSU basketball is now a bad product?
Should have been obvious that was a general comment, not aimed directly at basketball. I was talking fans/sports, in general. I said OSU played about as well as they could in that game and also am high on Tinkle and think people should support his rebuild because it is good basketball. But say Riley football, nobody should have supported that, and if they didn’t, they were not bad fans.
So….. he’s not a bad fan, …just a moron?
We lose by 15 to the no 2 team in the nation, for just the second loss this season, and…. our BB team is crap? What does he want, to watch a game…we win them all? Moronic…..or….he is indeed a bad fan.
Well….winning them all WOULD be nice. But then you would have 500 new poster on here claiming to be fans..just like duck football….and who wants that shit.
I do.
You want bandwagon duck fan types? That sounds like a nightmare. 500 guys circle-jerking about how good the beavers are, does not sound fun.
Oh, there is so much fun to be had with those types. You need to look at the bigger picture.
yep. seemed innocuous enough. more friendly fire on AB
reminds me of when angry quit watching the baseball team. What was the reason again? Casey’s use of the bullpen?
Correct. There is no way I was going to watch “Krod” or Gabe Clark. I stopped watching several years.
That’s too bad. Have you ever met Casey? Great guy, incredibly smart in baseball and beyond. It’s really your loss.
he wasn’t wrong about Gabe K Clark
I don’t care if he’s Ghandi. I’m not watching those guys play. There are finite hours on Earth. I’m not wasting them watching Gabe Clark. Sorry not sorry!
dude could absolutely rake against shitty pitching. Put him against quality arms and he turned into a mendoza line hitter that struck out a ton. Yet Casey continued to play him. For what? Quality defense?
Whiskey, but coaches never make errors, so batting Clark 4th all year was genius.
Who the hell would you want to coach the Beavers? I’m not saying all coaches are perfect, never did. But Casey is clearly one of the top coaches in the country.
nope. nowhere in those posts did I see angry calling for himself to be coach for any team nor anyone else clamoring for that to happen. Do you make this little sense in real life? Or just have a low IQ?
It’s A@A’s version of logic… what we in the real world call irrationality.
Either way I need a CT scan after reading some of his shit. Some of his logic is so asinine I think it gave me a tumor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaTO8_KNcuo
Umm… Whiskey, did you have too much whiskey? I never said angry said he should be the coach.
Lysdexia. Or it’s the tumor you already gave me. Or you edited your post which is the most likely scenario
I’m not registered, which as far as I know means I can’t edit. Nice try tho. Little quick to jump people.
And Jack, you call my logic irrationality. All based on your inability to read. As my least favorite troll says, “it’s a 100 level course”.
Yeah… whiskey did the same thing A@A did. The first illogic was asking the question, “Who the hell would you want to coach the Beavers?”
Nobody went there.
Then whiskey misreads it as a past fallacy in some other thread where this topic was discussed.
nobody went there? We were talking about Casey as a coach, his use of Clark and the bullpen. I simply asked “who would you want to coach?”, because he’s a top coach in the country, it would be damn near impossible to do better.
They were talking about some poor coaching decisions, and you decided that means they want to replace the coach?
Nobody went there.
My point is it’s crazy to be upset with the baseball coaching staff. They are as good as it gets. Casey and Bailey. Both have won titles.
And nobody there in regards to your music videos or other various stuff you post. But Trolls be trollin
Yes, we know your point. We also know it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Nobody is upset. The topic was that some people find better things to do than watch something they know will anooy them. I think we all know Casey is a good coach. It would be ridiculous to look at his success and think many are better than he is. And you seem to think none of us know that he spent time building a program when the school’s sum interest was to tell him, “Well, if you think you need that, you go get the money, and we’ll do it.”
You seem to skip right over those facts in order to talk about your point. Great coaches (and/or people) make mistakes obvious to all every now and then. They could also be stubborn or hopeful or doing the least bad in a bad situation (all plausible conjectures that would not be irrational responses, btw).
It’s a sports blog. The obvious will be noted and discussed. Nowhere in any of that discussion was there even a Riley-esque tone, let alone calling for Casey’s job. You just decided to talk about that yourself, and it was so off base that whiskey’s subsequent fallacy didn’t stand out at first.
edit: Now that I look back at the subthread I guess we should have seen it coming. You had already conflated not wanting to watch a couple players with dislike for a person. So you were already well on your way by that post.
Since you’re an educated idiot and love stats and quotes… Please quote me where I suggested anyone was talking about replacing Casey. what was meant when I said “who the hell would you want to coach”, was simply suggesting if you can’t watch beaver baseball in its best run, you never will. So quit it Jack, fallacy!! Illogical!! Music videos! Trolls!!!!!
“Who the hell would you want to coach the Beavers?”
Let’s parse this ^^^ that ^^^ that right there
You say it means you were, “… simply suggesting if you can’t watch beaver baseball in its best run, you never will.”
It doesn’t.
It first implies there is a discussion at hand about firing Casey. And the incredulity in its tone is simply and outlandishly wonderful. It then implies that the first implication has not yet been challenged. “Who would you get” is in itself a weak argument. It’s a decent unrelated question if the discussion you thought they were having was actually there. It’s always fun to run down coaching lists.
Now, to your revisionism… you think the years when Clark and KRod played were our best? Casey’s best? Why is Casey considered so great a coach? Is it possible that he is so very good that the continued use of players like that are two huge sore thumbs? I mean, if I were to compare those decisions to decisions made by… oh, let’s see… um… I know… let’s say Pat Casey. If I were to compare Pat Casey to himself, those decisions look poor. Both previous and subsequent coaching decisions made by Casey himself make those decisions look poor.
But you think it’s about finding another coach?
fallacy! Trolls be trollin
Since you’re obviously smarter than everyone, can you help me? We’re talking about baseball coaches. I never hinted at anyone suggesting getting rid of them. But if you can’t watch Casey’s team, it’ll be hard to ever watch Beaver baseball… That is so of topic… But your horrible music videos on this, as you described it, a sports blog, isn’t?
Vids are off-topic. They are obviously so. I’m surprised you don’t ask, “Who are you going to get to coach besides Casey?” After every one of them.
You were talking about coaches (plural). Everyone else was talking about players. Yes, it was a coaching decision, and a poor one. But you decided it was all about replacing the coach? You saw a straw and started looking for a camel laden with so many straws that this one you see could break its back. Not finding one, you just decided to yell, “Look! Camel!”
edit: Pay attention in language classes kids. If I had done so, I could be explaining the exact same thing over and over in different languages instead of relying on varying corny metaphors. I think that would be much more entertaining.
So if you perceive that I go slightly off topic, you throw a fit. But if you go beyond off topic with some horrible music videos, that’s fair game. Thanks for teaching me the rules! TBT!!
If I post a vid in response to someone’s comment or a string of comments, then it better apply to the content. If it’s standalone, as it almost always is, then it has nothing to do with that conversation and is just ad lib.
Your question qualifies for a standalone topic itself. And then it begs the question, “Who are you talking to?”
Let me quantify the summation of your proclamation…. You are a troll. And trolls be trollin baby. TBT!!
We can leave it wherever you want to take it. It all makes sense that way.
Well thank you. TBT
Throwback Thursday?
That’s where you want to leave it?
Okiedokie! I told you it would make sense.
Another commit gets the Beaver bump. Payne moved from zero star to 3 star today. Must have been a productive week at practice
Certainly a disappointing, but not unexpecte4d, outcome. It was awesome to watch the first half. During halftime I had the terrible feeling that things would turn around for Kansas and sadly I was correct.
BUT, the first half gave us a glimpse of what our Beavers are capable of once they realize that they just need to focus for 40 minutes instead of 20.
Agree that the Kansas intensity was huge and the Beavers, to be an elite team, need to step up to that level. I anticipate the Beavers becoming a very, very good team that approaches and reaches the level needed. It may not be this year, though.
This is the experience they need. They know effort and attitude will win them any game. Now they know they have to retain both for a whole game if they want to play on that level. The Zony game last year was a nice accomplishment. But it was at home, and Zony didn’t bring their A game.
The performance against KU was a much better game by our side. We were playing in front of 18k KU fans on a neutral court (that just happened to have their logo at mid-court), and we looked great for 20 minutes. It was apparent we were controlling them. Our D and confident offense was the first factor in KU’s poor offensive output.
And then they did it to us. We tried to keep up for a while and panicked instead of rallying. That’s the hump we need to get over. And we don’t get over that hump until we know where the damn thing is. Now we know and can point to that game and say, “We’re good enough to do that.”
And we are. And we can be better.
OT: re Mullaney.
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/285090-161653-slotty-pippen-from-osu-to-bama
Perhaps the answer to the question some have asked:
“I felt like I fit into that offense pretty well,” he says. “But there was a quarterback question, and it being my senior year, I wanted to leave everything I have on the field.”
Good for him.
Screw Mullaney, he should have suffered just like the rest of us. Just kidding. Smart move, although I did raise a little bit of an eyebrow at his statement…”I was open to anywhere”. Yeah, anywhere, but staying at OSU with three marginal quarterbacks. He of course, had to be tactful about it. I was just thinking, those of us who thought maybe 5-7 wins this year, should have seen the Mullaney departure as a “canary in the coalmine”. I also penalize Mullaney one point for being associated with asshole Kiffin no matter how well it has worked out for him.
“He of course, had to be tactful …” That pretty much sums it up for me. The link was worth reading, but mostly a recap of his career and history. Wonder if more will ever come out (publicly) re his feelings about both MR and GA.
Sounds like MR has no hesitancy dealing with Kiffin, surprise?
Shoutout to Quatre for ruffling some feathers! To all you “good fans”, congratulations on your accomplishment. Give yourself a pat on the back. Because no one else cares enough to give you one. The sites called Angry Beavs and Quatre is one angry beav right now so his comment is more fitting for this site than anyone else’s. Wasn’t this a place where angry beav fans could be angry without being shamed by the fan police?
no one shamed him for “not being a good fan”. He’s retarded for expecting a different result for a 2nd year program going on the road facing the 2nd ranked team in the nation. If you had bothered to read much, I don’t think you’d find anyone here that was expecting a win. Then to come here and crow that he didn’t watch because he KNEW what the result was going to be? I think we were all pretty sure what the result was going to be. Angry is right, it’s his prerogative to watch or not watch. But expecting a different result than the one we saw last night is pretty dumb. Go back to teabagging your butt buddies at blitz. No one here gives a fuck
I gave you a +1 because I know how mad you are right now and I thought it might cheer you up
You think I’m mad? Awww, how cute
U mad bro?
For those of you wishing for more big guys in this year’s recruiting class, Maxs Tupai fits the bill. Would be huge if they could land him. Official visit is a positive first step.
https://twitter.com/BeavRecruiting/status/676178952201764865
Finally took the time to zoom in and read what your avatar comic was and I’m glad I did. That’s hilarious. Any idea on what our chances of landing this guy are?
He’s a mysterious guy. Very quiet about recruiting, doesnt self promote. Good sign that he took his first official visit with OSU. Have no idea where else he’ll visit. Hopefully Nemec gets the scoop
Let me clear some things up. In my original post, I was commenting that if I had watched the game, it would have been crushing to see things go the way they’ve always gone with Beaver basketball. Look good for a while, then get crushed by a superior team. You can only watch so many of those games, so yes, I’m still glad I didn’t watch that one. I’m not ragging on WT or any member of the team. They did far better than I was expecting, which is why a large halftime lead, knowing that Kansas would be surging back and likely winning would have been crushing. Once again, a person can only watch so many of those. I’m also not disgusted that Kansas won. Common sense dictated they would win big, and ultimately they did. It’s obvious that this team is on an upswing, although I still believe (as I said before the season) I don’t think this team makes the tourney. It’s always great to be wrong though, especially with the Beavers. My apologies for acting like a dick, being told to nut up by someone who doesn’t know anything about me for missing one game really felt like a dick move to me.
People get a little too animated at times. I tuned into the second half of the game and was disappointed that they did not execute in the second quarter. I love watching Oregon State, but I also have things to do on Saturday’s. I’ve got a Porsche 914 that I am restoring, and hope to paint to the school colors. It’ll be a charcoal gray with burnt orange racing stripes. Hope to drive up to CV and watch a game in it someday and hopefully the ducks fans won’t key the paint job. But, yes I have a life besides sports and sometimes I miss a game for other interests and priorities. I love OSU though. Graduated in 94 with an MS in Forestry.
second half
But, you did have the radio on, right? Actually, I have a hard time getting anything done while listening to Parker, but still give it a try now and then.
The porsche sounds like a great project, colors should look nice too. GO BEAVS!
Hey I remember you. The guy in the student section in 1994. You were and are a great fan, hardly ever flipped me off. Autographed picture on its way to you.
PS: There is a $75 shipping and handling charge.
Yes you coached in the first OSU game I ever saw live in about 1992. About all I remember about that game is a skinny kid at quarterback with wheels who couldn’t throw and the fumble roosky that went for a touchdown when our center ran it in. We e come full circle. Were you on the sidelines this year as a consultant?
Restoring a ’59 El Camino. Close to finished now (only a couple more years). Still waiting for the per year cost to go down… :)
Painted Creamsicle(sp?) with Charcoal interior.
Creamsicle is the main color also with white trim (top, top of fins).
I get what you were trying to say. But it was just funny reading once you got jumped.
I should say that watching the game until about the 11:00 mark in the second half makes watching the whole thing worthy.
Quatre — a point trying to be made to you is that things have changed. We are no longer in that old string of losing seasons mode. Ragging on the team for fading against a probable final four team in the second half is way off base. If you cant watch that, you are living in the past and need to get over it. Try to get your head out, and live in the present, where that is in fact no longer likely to happen. What you should have relished, and happily so, is the Beaver performance up to that fade, where we took it to that much better team. If you cant do that, you should not watch any bb games, as you are not much of a fan.
I thought the game was pretty good. They didn’t expect us to take the game right at them, and that threw Self for a loop. Their D was nothing stellar. Players should have been making the shots they did make. I did like that we got many looks at baby hooks. I didn’t like that they missed most of them. That shot alone could have kept us in it long enough to regroup. But we started missing the easy ones and got panicked and sloppy as a result.
There is a difference where experience is concerned.
Self ran a play in the late first half that made me think what was going to happen in the second eventually would occur. He ran a block screen for Selden while also running a back screen for the wing on the other side. But that back screen was a distraction to occupy the two defenders on that side. Because both had their back to Selden coming off the block screen (and both were occupied with the screen itself) it acted as a quadruple screen for Selden to shed LMW, who had been dogging him all half.
True to form, they ran that play four times and had a ton of success. I can’t recall, but I think Olaf and Drew were the victims on that decoy.
We’re going to be better than I thought in a couple years. Hell, if I didn’t think we are going to be inconsistent, I’d say we are going to be really good this year. I just wish we had Gomis.
Any further comments re the 2nd half?
In the past WT has complemented Derrick Bruce on his ball handling and his ability to get the ball up the floor when the opponent is running a full court press so I was surprised he didn’t get more playing time (4 minutes).
Also, I thought N’diaye had a positive impact on the game in the 1st half. The stats have him with a total of 5 minutes, so I’m wondering if he even played in the 2nd half?
Comments, observations?
I agree.
Bruce wasn’t even seen until the second half. We weren’t really having any problems getting the ball up court in the first half. But we also weren’t making Mason play any real D, which didn’t tire his legs (as a true press would do). The use of Bruce was reactionary.
You’re also correct about Cheikh. He came in and scared KU out of the lane for a while. And the pick he set up high was just funny when Mason did his flop. KU did not like him being on the floor.
Bruce is really a twig. Needs the freshman 15.
But he has a great handle, and that can be a frustration in itself. Mason was quicker than GP2. And his handle kept GP2 from having any steals in the game. He almost had one on a low post entry where he came from the wrong side for help so nobody saw him. But their guards needed to be chasing us instead of being the aggressors. Bruce is that weapon. Too much GP2 wore down GP2.
All Bruce has to do is get the ball up court and dribble through the key a couple times for about five solid minutes per half. The scouting report on us is “young, moderate handles, streak shooting.” So we see opponents crowd the perimeter passing lanes. Bruce would break that down for a while and cause adjustments on their side which would take them away from concentrating on total domination. Then GP2 can come back in and do what he does.
Edit: Cheikh did it for a couple minutes in the first half. You could see KU was distracted by him.
Based on the tweets, it looks like the FB coaching staff is still getting after it.
Anyone watch the hudl video of upcoming visitor Maxs Tupai? According to hudl he’s 6’2″ and 245 lbs and imo, looks to be very good.
I found myself wondering where they’d play him if he became a Beaver. LB? H back? DE? ??
Report from KC
Nice weather so made the drive down to KC to watch da Beav’s. Stopped in Des Moines on the way down to see the Goph’s volleyball team play and win their round of sixteen match.
No more than twenty Beav fans in the Sprint Center.
Gomis looked full go in the shoot around/warm ups. Surprised he did not play.
Kansas fans were pretty cool. Surprised by “how good a team you have.”
Jaywalk players were much more developed physically.
The first half was an absolute blast. The arena got real quiet. I was expecting us to get smoked from the outset, but little Tinkle shot the lights out. Guy in back of me started yelling, “will somebody cover that guy.” Eubanks shocked the Kansas fans and players with his leaping ability.
Fan in back of me told me at halftime that GP’s and Drew’s dunks were about the two best he has seen against KU.
Kansas fans were pretty worried at halftime because they apparently have a history of playing badly and losing in their game at the Sprint center.
#4 got Payton a little flustered. I believe he got stripped three times.
Youth showed in the second half. Slow rotations on D and KU could not miss. KU passing was so much crisper and purposefull. They executed and we didn’t.
It was funny listening Jayhawk fans bitch about Perry Ellis. I wish we has a player so “crappy.”
They definitely have the blue blood mentality. Talking to a group of four guys while having a beer before the game, they said it did not matter who was the coach, because they will always be good.
I wanted to use Neb football as a rejoinder, but held my tongue. Interestingly, they all expect Self to head off to the NBA in a couple years due to his frustrations with the NCAA. The eligibility of the one big kid this year being the latest example,
New arenas are too sterile. Much better in the old joints like The Barn and Gill.
No Xmas miracle, but damn(dam) that first half was sure fun. Need to put some beef on those freshmen. Goph V-ball makes the final four! Excellent.
Nice report
Thanks. Assumed S Thompson would be the most college ready of the group, but he is the most overmatched. Little Tinkle has a great shooting stroke and if Drew can master that skyhook he scored with in the first half, he would be unstoppable. Had flashbacks to Lew Alcinder when he made that. KU fans where impressed by Tinkle’s crew. The future is bright!
Thx BG – ABs very own correspondent.
Drew should dig through the archives and watch some film of Steve Johnson. He made a living down low with that soft hook shot that he had. It’s a great offensive tool to have against the other bigs. I hope he works on it. It sounds like you had a fun game experience!
I think there’s someone threatening Johnson’s FG% record this year. Is it that Beeler kid at UCSB? I don’t know if he’s going to put up enough shots to qualify, but he was good against us.
Drew is going to have to get some “back” then…….let’s just say Steve Johnson knew exactly how to use his body to create space for his baby hook. Adrian Dantley was also a master. Utilization of the backside is becoming a lost art in basketball.
Ellis looks about 36 years old, you don’t see too many college players with male pattern baldness already in progress. It was men against boys in the second half. It was curious how poorly KU played in the first half, but little Tinkle gave them no indication he could go off from 3 point land during the previous seven games, so they did not respect him on the perimeter. Self is another one of those coaches who always looks like he face is going to explode. Great coach, but his demeanor annoys me.

Saw that Elysee Mbem-Bosse is committing on Thursday. I know he visited. What are our chances of getting him?
My guess would be less than 5% chance. Has a ton of offers, is from the east coast, hasnt really talked about OSU at all since his visit.
Also, the dead period starts Monday and ends January 13th for highschool recruits. I don’t much recruiting news for a little while. JuCo guys are in the quiet period now toom
Essentially both quiet and dead mean no coaches out on the road. Dead also means no phone calls or in person contact, even on a campus visit. Written/text/email messaging is still allowed.
I have a question about recruiting in football. If they have 100 offers out and they have 3 spots to fill, how do they make sure they get the right balance of players at each position? Both our four stars are safety/athlete types. We have a bunch of safeties/db/corners this year. Do they start pulling offers to kids at that position to make sure they don’t get too many while concentrating on the key critical positions ie, we need some lineman?
Coach Andersen has said that we’re in ‘best player available’ mode. I think they probably do want another DT, but if they get more linebackers and ends, they’ll take them.
It’s likely that some of those offers have been retracted though, I bet there aren’t 100 viable offers out there.
That said, I think we have at least 6 more spots. 23 verbals now, 2 early enrollees, 2 mormon mission kids leaves 19 counters and we take the full 25 in this signing period.
This is a nice clip.

Thanks. I just missed being in the vid by 2 rows. I jumped up and sent my phone tumbling down the stairs LOL.
The ship has sailed with Himphill. He retweeted some anti-Beaver stuff on Twitter.
I wonder if it was a mutual thing between the staff and him? That is the word.
Where are you hearing this? He retweeted some stuff, but it was just the normal fan banter going back and forth about Arizona/Oregon State. He retweeted the anti arizona stuff too. Think he was just loving all of the attention
FWIW, but I have it on pretty good authority that as of today, OSU is his #1 school still
It’s kinda hard to resist babes, bikinis, pool parties, parties, lack of rain (3xx days of sunshine), etc. if that’s what you’re into.
If that’s what’s most important to him then he should go to AZ or the equivalent.
FWIW I took a look at his tweets and didn’t see anything that was obvious to me which indicated that he’s not interested in the Beavs. BWDIK
https://twitter.com/K_linHimphill?ref_src=twsrc
The Beavs could transfer the team to OSU Cascades over here in Bend. Then babes, bikinis, pool parties, parties, lack of rain (3xx days of sunshine), etc. all come into play…
Yeah? He re-tweated some Arizona Fan trash talk then went on to say none of it was his thoughts or feelings, just that he was appreciating the love.
Thoughts on the bball game,
It’s a shame they lost but Kansas showed why they are the #2 team in the nation. The Beavs did show a lot of progress. They didn’t back down.
If the Beavs show that kind of effort in future games, they’ll make the tourney. Kansas left in their starters in the second half until the game was in hand. That’s tells you how much it took for Kansas to win.
Now the guys know what kind of effort it takes to play with top teams. Hopefully it will kick start the season. If the blow out CSU Fullerton, I think the lessons from Kansas will have been applied. They cannot play down to lesser opponents.
Anybody here knowledgeable about Seattle area prep hoops?
A guy named Damantae Dixson is saying he just got offered by OSU today, but I can’t really tweet anything about it because I have no way of verifying and can’t even find much of anything about the guy online. Hard to tell if it’s legit or not, but I’m leaning towards not until I see some sort of proof.
Here’s his twitter handle
https://twitter.com/DamantaeDixson
You’re not going to find much on him because he wasn’t on the u17 roster in AAU. But he is ranked among one of the best u15 players in the nation. So there is some credibility if only that we hear about some 2018 kids getting offers here and there. But we’re two years away on him if true. That’s a long time.
Appreciate the info. Had no idea he was so young. I guess I’ll just keep his name in mind for future news. Seattle Rotary mentioned Oregon State was showing interest in him back in June, which was the only thing I really came across that sounded somewhat legit. Makes sense his name wouldn’t be out there in much news yet though since he’s so young.
Yeah… and don’t think not making the u17 is a bad thing. That team was stacked. And I’d be willing to bet most established programs keep rosters within one year of classification with very few outliers.
The whole AAU hoops community is such a mystery to me. Have no idea how any of that stuff works. I’d imagine it’s a little like baseball in that only the guys who play year-round and belong to the club and invite teams will be the ones who get noticed.
Watched my cousin who plays D1 spend the last 5 years of his life devoted to baseball helped me realize just how much time/effort/money is involved for these kids to make it at the collegiate level. Without devoted parents, I could see how talented kids could easily slip through the cracks
Rotary has always had some really strong players. Brandon Roy, Rodney Stuckey, Jamal Crawford all come to mind. Seems like they’ve had a few more.
Currently they have Jaylen Nowell, class of 2017, is a super smooth SG, very good handle, very athletic, great shooter, but likely not a guy we can get.
Plus, I think we have a different SG in mind for 2017.
http://www.dailybreeze.com/sports/20151207/socal-prep-legends-boys-athlete-of-the-week-ethan-thompson-bishop-montgomery
He might be a possibility.
Was reading this article which says Oregon State is public university with the 2nd highest amount being paid out to former coaches as severance in 2014.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/colleges/college-sports-fastest-rising-expense-paying-coaches-not-to-work/2015/12/10/ec856b42-9d33-11e5-bce4-708fe33e3288_story.html?tid=ss_tw-bottom
Was surprised they were ranked so high on the list, considering the only recent firing to my knowledge was CR. Then saw this note at the bottom of the article
“Note: Oregon State mistakenly reported its entire severance obligation to former men’s basketball coach Craig Robinson as paid in 2014; The school actually paid Robinson $1,288,726 in severance that year.”
Derp….you’d think they could change their table pretty easily if they had that information to put in the note.
Not only would it be reasonable to expect the table to be corrected, the footnote doesn’t even give enough information for one to calculate the correct figure. Without knowing what amount was originally reported, the actual figure isn’t much help in determining the magnitude of the error.
Also, wasn’t CR’s settlement to be reduced by any earnings from a subsequent job; how does that effect this “table”?
Rumor that Ken Niumatalolo is going to be the guy in BYU, but wants to fly back to Annapolis to tell the team in person, so would likely be announced tomorrow.
Also rumored (I can’t personally believe this, but…) Steve Sarkisian is begging BYU to take a chance on him as the OC. Actually, I can believe he’s begging them, I can’t believe they’ll do it.
Also rumors they havent agreed on a dollar figure and Tom Holmoe is currently flying out to PDX today.
Doesnt sound like it’s over by any means
This article makes it sound like Navy coach doesn’t want job and Sitake is interviewing formally on Tuesday. He is option B.
http://www.sltrib.com/sports/3308352-155/byu-football-navy-coach-visits-byu
Now Gina has an article
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2015/12/gary_andersen_if_byu_wants_to.html
Says GA wants a “special Deal” if they want Sitake
There’s nothing that I see that indicates he doesn’t want the job, just that he hasn’t decided.
I think he has actually decided and he will leave. I believe Tommy Holmoe is so stupid he thinks he can get Sitake as the DC, which led to Andersen’s comments about how it better be a ‘special deal.’
Do assistant coaches at BYU have to be LDS in good standing? Sarkisian is not Mormon.
He went to BYU, and he’s a moron. Close enough?
Looks like Sitake will have an interview with BYU after all…
http://www.vanquishthefoe.com/2015/12/14/10153482/byu-coaching-hiring-search-oregon-state-kalani-sitake
Seriously hoping he stays. My favorite of the new staff.
Off topic:
For you NW degenerates, just found out this evening AC/DC at the Tacomadome on Feb 2. Only date in the pacific northwest. Tix go on sale this Saturday
I saw this show in SF (same day OSU/Stanford football game). They did a fantastic job of presenting their music; no-nonsense, high tempo…I’d seen them years ago and I actually thought they sounded better this time, part of it might have been the venue. Its a cliché to say “they’re a hard working, blue collar band that gives the fans their money’s worth,” but they’re a hard working, blue collar band that gives the fans their money’s worth.
That said, if the show is at the Tacoma dome (?), its not a very good venue nor does it have good sound IMO.
BUT, this tour was worth seeing.
Cheapest tix I saw were $227 each. Granted this was a re-seller and I have no idea what they’ll be going for when they go on sale Saturday, but I would not pay that much to go see anyone
Ticket master price range will be $75-$140(with about $20 in fees)
Maybe you should ask for the Blu-ray box set for xmas?
Keep in mind this guy works with Canzano

Better to have coordinators that other programs are interested in than not.

Danny and the Giants……..
Danny and NU…….
Earlier today Handsome Tanielu tweeted this morning that he will commit this wednesday with Utah, BYU, Oregon State listed. He has since deleted that, however.
I think he’ll end up a Beav, and I also think Markell Simmons and the other Payne brother could end up signing. Not saying its a slam dunk but those are the guys I’ll be watching tomorrow.
I don’t like the other Payne brother. He looks way too slow to be a db at this level. Fingers crossed on Handsome. Perhaps he’ll end up waiting until he sees what Sitake ends up doing as BYU is amongst his top choices
OT – because its slow, and we’ll wait to see what Sitake does, if he is in fact being interviewed, here’s some yuks from “Big Red:”
“50th: NU’s final regular-season rank in Jeff Sagarin’s computer poll. The Huskers were the highest ranked five-win team in the poll, just ahead of Texas, which was 52nd. Every metric out there tells you Nebraska more than belongs in a bowl despite its record.
2,736: The number of times Nebraska coach Mike Riley made a comment about winning close games toward the end of this season. In the immediate sense, Riley is right: NU didn’t make plays down the stretch — the poor Hail Mary defense, the botched third-and-7 at Illinois — that could have delivered the Huskers a better season. But, long term, NU simply has to beat more teams by more points.
31st: Nebraska’s 2016 recruiting class rank as of Sunday, according to 247 Sports Composite service. You’d like to the see the Huskers in the top 25, which is still possible, but anything above 20 seems like a stretch.”
“More than belongs in a bowl despite its record….” hell, what’s a record anyway? We need more bowl games with deserving teams with losing records…
http://www.omaha.com/huskers/mckewon-stats-show-where-husker-football-needs-work/article_1adee788-0a30-54bd-85a6-13a59382ad76.html
Those poor delusional bastards.
Best 5-7 team in the country! Hip hip hooray!
The sad part is you know they’ll be pumped and think they’re going on the right direction when they go 8-4 or 9-3 next season…. Until Lucy Van Riley predictably yanks the 2017 football with a six-win stinker
#TPDB #lolhuskers
I’m the poor bastard. I’ll be forced to watch their bowl game with my brother while pretending to want the Hucksters to win. Another teachable moment for me.
Too many bowl games when teams with losing records are going….my Gophers included.
Why the hell do you have to root for the Huskers? Explain to your brother that 8 losses would have historical significance and it will be better for him and everyone in the long run!
Lose the battle, win the war, poor the bastards
This is cool. It should be done more often.
https://twitter.com/OregonStateWBB/status/676793949818785792
So how does that work? Free admission for the kids?
Pretty sure reduced cost tickets. My youngest and his class were there. If I recall the tickets were $5
They should do it more often and among different sports. But they should make at most a food donation. I don’t think people should have to buy community involvement like this from OSU. I’m guessing it was a lot of fun and benefited the team just as much.
Agree. Start the brainwashing early. Go Beav’s!
Yeah!
The byproduct is cool too.
Jack, do you think any of these matchup are particularly compelling in terms of competition and entertainment?
http://www.rosequarter.com/events/detail/far-west-classic
Anybody here planning to attend some of these games?
Headed to the game on Saturday. I’m excited to be able to see the Beavs in Portland, $9 beers be damned.
Tulsa.
It’s a back-to-back for us, while they’re rested; neutral court (without our logo just happening to be at mid-court); they have nine seniors who aren’t great but can play to the level of most competition; Haith is a good coach.
And then there’s Quinnipiac on Monday. I don’t see us losing that just because of the payback factor. I don’t see us losing to Fullerton. But that Tulsa sandwich will either show our mettle or let us down.
We just had a national game where everyone watched it then went to the RPI to see where we were. And they said to themselves, “Yeah… that’s about right.”
Sweeping three in four days helps that perception along for the national media. And it helps the players themselves in terms of experience and confidence.
I don’t think Haith is all that impressive of a head coach. But he seems to do well when given good leftover talent from coaches that are actually good which is the case here so who knows. Tulsa did beat Wichita which later beat Utah so if you’re into that kind of logic then this game could be competitive. I think all these matchups are compelling in that we need to win all 3 to be considered a legit tourney possibility going into the conference season. Obviously a good conference showing can overcome a loss here but losing to these teams would show that this team is too inconsistent to make that kind of run IMO. FREE DERRICK BRUCE!
not to mention giving N’diaye (sp?) more minutes. I thought he was effective against Kansas but got pulled way too soon and didn’t go back in..
I really would like to see a small-ball lineup of Bruce-GPII-Thompson-Tinkle-Eubanks get some run. I think that lineup could be devastating offensively with Bruce darting around kicking it for 3s and lobbing for Eubanks and GPII. Eubanks length and shot blocking could cover up some of the defensive problems and you could slide N’diaye in for rim protection too. Olaf, LMW and Duvivier are just lacking in confidence so much that you can see their hesitation disrupting the offense on countless occasions and don’t even get me started on Olafs “defense”.
I’ll be at both games.
Speaking of basketball. From the horses mouth, as they say.

I watched a bit of the game – the crowd (reported to be 7,800 – looked great in a panoramic view but still the damn empty seats courtside. Perhaps people from the athletic department don’t go to the games? or watch them? or dullness sets in when confronted with any desire to solve and implement?

Also read in the Times that WSU has sold 1,900 of its 6K Sun Bowl tickets….many will be distributed to military. WSU said in the article “We’ll have a lot more fans there than Miami.”
An example of why things will be better when the Beavs have a deeper bench.

This lends further credence to my conspiracy theory of (except for Gomis’s hand injury) Nike providing substandard shoes to the Beavs.
That’s rich. So how do you explain all the football injuries? Uniforms are obviously too flimsy.
I think you’re on to something there.
Meh… if you want to go back to the 80’s you can point at them as one of the major actors who contributed to an increase in foot and joint injuries in some sports. But that was because they spent on marketing and design. People who specialized in those fields did an overwhelming job of convincing people to buy more and more ridiculous “technologies” (extra cushioning, heel wedge, thick tread, narrow toe-box).
What they never did was run a study of any kind that found any of those “technologies” helped or hurt performance or health. And now that some legitimate studies have been conducted, we’re finding out they never consulted any podiatrists or L&H sportsMDs (or any whose “consult” was contrary to their marketing).
But Nike giving our athletes crap shoes isn’t a conspiracy beyond their marketing for college sports as a whole. They provide crap shoes to everyone equally.
And it’s hard to assign the shoes anything other than contributing to an injury caused by contact. If you’re suddenly moved off your line, a lot of bad things can happen regardless.
You’ve got to admit shoes have come a long way since the first Converse All Stars. Remember those high tops with the star on the side?
No, I don’t have to admit that. Chuck Taylors are superior to many shoes made today. They may not be as pretty. But they weren’t also crap… once upon a time.
Edit: Sorry, I overreacted. Shoes have come long way since then. You didn’t say they got better. You only noted the former. Sorry.
How much deeper of a bench do you expect? Looks like WT can play 10 or 11 guys as stands (especially when Gomis is back). Injuries happen, I don’t know any college teams that go 15 deep. You are not going to get quality guys to be 12 through 15 and wait for injuries in the college game..
It was my way of saying I don’t think most of the upperclassmen are quality players. If it wasn’t for the freshmen the team would be stinking up the place just like the end of last year.
It wouldn’t be that bad, if bad at all. But it does nobody any good to point out that an influx of talent helps.
