Home Football Seth Collins Transfers

Seth Collins Transfers

46

I’m a little late to get this up, but per O-live he’s gone.

This just wasn’t a good match, so I’m glad he’s gone. Will he succeed somewhere else? Probably not as a QB, but with a year off now to simply work on throwing and his grades, maybe he makes strides. But I don’t think that was going to happen at OSU due to circumstance, so it’s best for all. He was clearly delusional about his QB skills, and maybe people will be more willing to admit this now that he’s not wearing orange and black.

I don’t think his attitude (me first) was good for the locker room, either. So ultimately I’m happy about this, even if he turns out to be a very good player for someone else. OSU now has another scholarship open to go find a playmaker. Go Beavs!

  1. Here’s what will happen. He transfers to a DII school as a QB then has pretty good numbers and the press will trash OSU for not sticking with him as a QB.

  2. I thought the “slash” role was intriguing and we sure the hell needed to take some positives away from last season, but I’m also keeping in mind Collins best games came against a FCS team, a mediocore Non Power 5 and one of the worst Power 5 defenses in the nation. Not sure what Collin’s dad is thinking, unless SC somehow quarterbacks a Power 5 team in the near future.

  3. Not news, but some back-up/emergency relief may be coming as Struck sounds closer to a potential offer:

During the 2015 college football season, the Oregon State Beavers had three eligible scholarship quarterbacks – Seth Collins, Marcus McMaryion and Nick Mitchell – and, at times, were down to their final option.

The 2016 quarterback depth chart is expected to look vastly different.

Not only has Mitchell transferred and Collins moved to a jack-of-all-trades offensive position, but transfer quarterback Darell Garretson is expected to be eligible and three-star prospect Mason Moran will be ready for spring ball.

Still, that leaves Oregon State in the precarious position of having only three scholarship quarterbacks on the depth chart.

Hoping to avoid that situation, the Beavers are in hot pursuit of Crater High School standout Matt Struck, who has been on the radar for some time.

“I’ve been talking to Coach (Kevin) McGiven for months. As soon as they get (a scholarship) opening, it’s going to be my scholarship,” he explained. “They said they think there will be one scholarship open by signing day.”

Not sure he’s a viable DI solution, but another QB is needed.

    • Struck makes it sound like the coaches knew Collins was going to leave. And Struck is pretty evenly matched with Moran as far as comparing highlight film. There was a conversation on here about it a few weeks ago. I think Struck would have the same numbers or maybe better if he had Moran’s 5* receivers.

        • Not as good as Morans. Strucks completion % is lower, but that could be because his receivers aren’t as good. He has a good arm, just tends to throw the long ball a hair short, his recievers have to slow a little to get under them. That can be fixed in the weight room. But he’s more serviceable than Collins by a long shot.

  4. here’s the principal take-away for readers of this blog. In terms of forecasting a future sequence of events, Angry was right again, as he is most of the time. Just sayin’.

    • Haha. I think I even said he’d transfer…

Or something like “I”d be surprised if he lasted at OSU all four years”…something along that line.

      • About mid-season I mentioned to Angry on here that someone responding to I think an Eggers article (probably on the Portland Tribune site) said that Collins was going to transfer. I don’t know if they were just speculating or if they had inside information at that time. Angry said something along the lines that it would not surprise him at all if it was true.

  5. What kind of headlines would we get with a name like Struck?

He has a good game. Lightning Struck.
Lots of sacks. Stanford struck Struck.
Too bad Storm’s not here anymore. Storm Barrs-Woods but Struck strikes Stanford.
He’s a good lookin’ kid the babes are Struck with him.

How many negative votes for that bad humor?

  6. USC is going to be interesting. Still early but feels like a “must win.”

What I don’t get is how we played so many fewer games than other teams. What’s the strategy there? Really puts a premium on every single conference game.

So far, I think we can beat WSU at home and hopefully on the road too. Rest of the games honestly look pretty daunting for this group.

    • I think someone on here addressed that at the beginning of the season. Apperantly we had some cancelations on the schedule and it was too late to add anybody…….or something like that.

    • I feel the same but I was informed we only get the Washington schools at home this year. Only winnable roadie imo is ASU.

      • You’re correct. I didn’t notice we miss the Washington road games this year.

That just means we need to defend our home court even more, starting with USC.

  7. @Angry. Good call on Collins. Probably has at least one more transfer in him unless daddy becomes the defacto coach.
OT: In Costco yesterday wearing OSU and a guy says “nice shirt.” He has on a Beav hat. The guy is getting a PhD in mechanical engineering at the U of M. Another Beavergopher! God help us.

  8. I’m rolling with blind homerism and 0 facts or knowledge, but I’m going to assume Garretson is just so much better then the other qb’s that they know there’s no chance of seeing the field so they’re looking for places they might play.

Seriously though: they kept passing up McMaryion so if I was him if roll too. I mean Nick Mitchell might be the worst D1 Qb I’ve ever seen. Why he got the reps instead of MM I have no idea.

    • Garretson can be the best qb in the world but the fact is that the backup qb gets plenty of chances in a spread system. 3M should know this as well as anyone.

As far as Mitchell getting the start over anyone, I can’t help you there.

  9. Have it on good source that says SC was not well liked by the Freshmen class, speaks to his leadership. I think this has been said before.

I would have like to see him develop in the system and see how he would mature and grow. He didn’t even last in the system for a full 12 months?? That is just insane. I feel this is on his dad, who just wants him to be a quarterback, but there is no doubt that SC has some prima dona in him. Would have loved to see the “slash” role and he might have been able to get the NFL doing it. He won’t as QB.

    • He’s a headcase/ego maniac/me first player. Obvious from day 1 and the only reason people denied it is because they’re Beaver fans and optimists who want to believe the best will happen. That bid the guy time, but that time exposed him, as it always does. No clue how GA stuck with him so long.

He obviously has great athleticism, but whether that leads to the NFL or success at another NCAA program will depend on his mind. I’d bet on him failing everywhere he goes, but we’ll see if he surprises.

Agree he could have succeeded at OSU in an all purpose role.

      • Maybe it was an inside job: GA saw the writing on the wall midseason and went Tanya Harding on his vulva to get him out of the mix

And here I was leading the Leave Seth Alone charge a couple of weeks ago. I feel so betrayed :p

        • At least you have the guts to show up and talk about it. It’s funny how quiet this thread is when so many people were outspoken about “how great he was for a true freshman”. Where are they to man up?

  10. For the record, on Oct 22nd.

    Sounds about right.

But I’m not confident Collins will remain engaged. More likely he’ll slam his protein shake again, pout, and look to transfer.
