They're at it Again Over on Beaverblitz

26

The lynch mob is out in full force and they’re about to hang another Beaver:

Angie-Is Fight4OSU a Troll?

Should he get banned, I have read 4 threads today and he is just a total downer! Can we say thanks for the business but we reserve the right to kick you out. This guy is an absolute whiner or a duck/husky.

We are going to a bowl against a ranked team! Only 12 other bowls have that possibility, plus its a great city pretty close to HOME.

I hope recruits and players are not reading his crap because the beavers had a great year with a ton of development everywhere!!

“Wah, someone is being negative.”

Man, what a bunch of whiny losers on that forum. Hopefully Fight4OSU makes his way over here.

  1. Invite him over. It is always good to remember that someone can be a fan and not support the direction that the program is going. I believe that this program is largely headed in the correct direction but there are a few changes that we all would like to see to get us to that next level.

  2. What kind of ‘crap’ is he posting? Do I care? Why bother sending anything to Beaverblitz on a weekend? Nobody’s going to do anything until about 10am tomorrow. At least that’s what I see when I pop in on the front page. Of course, I piggy-back on a friend’s subscription–from a major Florida school. So I can only read the boards where someone just got fired. It’s been pretty entertaining over the last month.

Blogs are just blogs. I’m not going to pay to get one, and Rivals is particularly poor at providing information. Shoot… whatsername at the Portland Tribune seems to be the one who’s most tuned into recruiting. I have never seen Scout or Rivals break any news that wasn’t on the Trib or Groanian first.

And can we talk to the mods about getting this angry guy out of here? :)

  3. Catching up on some reading, and I ran across this…

I knew about Nike’s involvement with us, but I did not know that it was an exclusive, overarching product development deal with the school being the product. I also knew about their sports bra mistake, but I didn’t know what lengths they took to correct their own mistake.

Pretty cool. Now can we borrow the corporate jet for recruiting?

    • I hope De Carolis isn’t dead set on the OS versus OSU. I hope also to get rid of the angry muskrat we currently have as a mascot.

Maybe he could talk these Oregon track guys into helping with the $11m needed to build a top-line track facility and endow the sport for years to come.

      • I read that article a few days ago, pretty cool read. I don’t know if it mentions it but the executive named Hatfield has a son who is a freshman scholarship football player at OSU. Micah went to Lake Oswego with Jack Lomax who is also a new player at OSU.

I hope that De Carolis isn’t afraid of getting support from Nike. I don’t want to become the ducks but I want their money. I think Nike seems to be in tune with our program and its goals. Additionally, a track program would be great for our football program (I think it was you that brought it up before Jack and I agree).

So Micah Hatfield is his son? Makes sense I guess.

I like the idea of small town Steelers. You can see that the schools and players get a lot of input with their recent successes. So what if the UO players have lousy taste? I think Florida’s new uni’s are pretty good.

The point is that we are on a short list of elites for marketing purposes. I see us getting a little more respect this year over last. And in a loss in the Civil War we weren’t called upstart, chippy, inspired, or lucky. In fact, I heard more good talk about us after the game than I did before.

Nike has an ability to make hype like that an entrenched perspective. Maybe we’ll see Quizz on a Times Square billboard soon. After all, we were the first school to run a marketing blitz to win a Heisman.

    • This is great. I knew we had deals with Nike, but I never really have checked into it too much other than assuming we were just the red-headed stepchild per se and kinda get the scraps of any attention to our program, etc. Either way, this is awesome to read, especially how in depth Tinker has been pursuing this. It’s totally what we need… I’ve believed we’ve been in sort of a tailspin/identity crisis. We don’t really have anything great going on, although it could be worse… instead of half-way doing things (OS logo) I think a cohesive re-branding is much overdue. Nothing works as well together as it should. It’s all about a cohesive identity. (Design nerd, sorry) I have faith that with time and a sort of “craftsman” approach tinker is taking to this I would know they would come up with a solid identity.
Trying to be careful not to hop on a tangent but I’m glad to see the beaver logo come into question. I mean, as much as it’s actually pretty recognizable… it annoys the heck out of me, i’ll be honest. It’s a love/hate with it, i’ve wanted to redesign it just for fun :)
I used to be a designer for the OSU Athletic Dept. and this was the hardest part of it, following the predetermined brand that you so wish you could make tweaks to!

  4. And other news in Oregon…
PSU hires Nigel Burton as head coach. He leaves us for Nevada, and years gets him the job at PSU? I knew he was good at recruiting, but his corners drove me nuts with their back-to-the-QB play at OSU.

Maybe he’ll come back to us after this stint falls through? Maybe it won’t fall through, but it’s an uphill battle.

  6. Notre Dame has two on its short list… Brian Kelly and Jim Harbaugh… in that order.
Kansas really wants Harbaugh too, but the rumors have him wanting an NFL job… maybe where he was drafted out of college… Chicago? Lovie is really trying to save his job, and the rumors have USC’s offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates going to the Windy City soon.

    • I’d love to see Harbaugh leave. Not that I’m afraid of Stanford; I just hate watching his childish tantrums and anger management issues for 60 minutes every Saturday.

    • And Stoops is a lamb?

As much as I like to tease Duckies about Chip Kelly leaving after next year–and he will–I’m pretty sure Bellotti will talk Chris Petersen into returning to the UO. That would be unfortunate, because I think he’s a much better coach than Kelly is.

      • Take a look at Harbaugh’s roster, he has quite a few kids from Texas, he did a great job recruiting there in addition to coaching. As far as Petersen that would be an interesting hire for UO and make them a very good team. I wonder if Bellotti would have enough of an ego to take over as head coach if Kelly left. Bellotti never got to the rose bowl as a head coach but the coach before and after him have both done it. I wonder if he will be jealous.

      • Bellotti’s fine where he is. I think his relationship with Petersen is strong enough to draw him back to UO. It was basically Bellotti’s recommendation that put Petersen in the BSU job.

  7. Harbaugh is a weird guy. It’s interesting that he has apparently jelled with the intellectuals at Stanford, unless they are just humoring him for the time being.
