Really big miss when we couldn’t land Latrell Bankston in last year’s class. He looked really good in the Cyclones victory today.

  2. Will hopefully see the Beavs use a lot more tempo in today’s game. Kelly exposed their D last week using an uptempo offensive scheme. That and a lot of misdirection gave their D all sorts of fits in rewatching the game. Smith and Lindgren really need to use that to make up for the disadvantage in talent level.

Yea Smith needs to have the better gameplan on both sides of the ball to make up for the talent difference. Hopefully they can force shough to throw and they don’t let him kill us with his legs. It’s huge having both Skelton and Bennett healthy for this game. If shough beats us passing hats off but I don’t think he will if they’re able to provide pressure.

Gebbia will have to do enough to keep the D honest. This would be a good time to use irish and take some shots on one on one situations. There always is the chance of penalties and might give Jermar some space.

  3. I don’t know if it’s the lack of television I’ve been watching lately, but it feels like there has been very little hype for this game this year. Has anyone else noticed that? I’m not having a name for the game makes it a lot tougher for the media and businesses to generate the usual hype. Also this weird Covid season and no big Civil War parties has reduced the excitement, at least for me.

I’ve noticed everything Beav related on Twitter has been dead for quite a while now, too. Covid has made people realize sports are pretty stupid, is my theory.

  4. Go Beavs! With all the cancellations I think the game is the last game of the day and at some point, it will be the only college game on TV.

    • yep. My nephews in Florida are watching, for example. Normally when the Beavs are the proverbial “only game in town” they don’t do well.

  5. Daschel tweets 5 Beavs out of the game due to positive test and contact tracing.

Noteworthy is Nous Keobounnam who started all games this year at RG.

  6. Vandy is going to suit up a women’s soccer player to kick for them tomorrow. No men’s soccer players available? Wonder if there is a scholarship issue there?

  7. That screen took a half hour to develop, and yet still the closest Beav was 15 yards downfield and let the RB come to him instead of going and making a tackle short of the line to gain.

  8. And then we refuse to tackle their RB. The Beavs “Gave up”, per the announcers.

Edit: The words “Assumed” and “let up” now being thrown around.

  9. That “receiver was in the area” call on the throw that went 10+ yards put of bounds wasnt sketchy at all…sheesh.

The tackling attepts by OSU were definitely sketchy

  10. Poor pursuit to the ball. Need to adjust or this could get ugly. Hopefully our offense looks way better or it could get even uglier.

  11. They’re doing what ucla did to them last week. A totally different offense. Then we scored so quick no time to adjust on the sidelines.

      • there was early speculation after Smith’s hire as to whether he would emulate Erickson, Riley, or Peterson, and the tendency clearly seems to be Riley. His pre-game interview with Parker couldn’t have been less emotive. And then, I watch David Shaw at the end of the Cal game and I think to myself, “when we will ever have a coach who gives a damn again?”

  12. Time to hire will muschamp as d coordinator. He’s the guy I wanted when riley left. Always good defenses when he was in charge. Not a good head coach though.

  13. Sounds like Gebbia needs to pick it up and do his part? No one looks to be playing D, but if OSU can only run, they won’t keep up.

    Unless they get 3+ turnovers…

this Hayes kid seems to have settled into his FG duties pretty well. Accordingly, Smith shouldn’t have to go for it on 4th as much.

  15. Glad we’re getting some points but it seems like the same recipe as the last 8+ years where we settle for FG and the Yucks score tds. That’s not a good trade.

Gebbia is no Aaron Rodgers not even close. He has the opposite of the “it” factor… I am ready for Nolan to have a chance… Gebbia is single handedly losing us games with his poor throws… Need Luton right about now

        1

Haha! Angry, so Gebbia wasn’t your boy? Now you are trying to blame the head coach for his failures? I bet old man Jonathan Smith could make these throws even today… I am sorry that your overrated QB is terrible… I mean the Sun Belt conference has better QB’s than what OSU has… it’s pretty funny considering how much you all over his nuts and now you are deflecting… honestly I knew that was coming after you were proven wrong

        • @ Bill when the defense is on the field constantly it’s hard to blame them… Plus we need to go score touchdowns… Our O is the weak link here, they were supposed to carry this team… has been all season

          • I sometimes wonder what you are on… If you are saying you weren’t the biggest proponent of Gebbia, I have to question your sanity… Perhaps you go back and look at the blog around this time last year… Maybe this will refresh your memory… “Luton Sucks, Gebbia is the next Aaron Rodgers. he’s got moxie blah, blah, blah” I am sorry it’s hard for you to admit it. But your delusions I imagine are challenging

          • Once again crickets lol… Angry I have to say you are consistent. You’d make an amazing politician. You have the dodging questions down pat.

  17. Beavs should be up playing tight cover 2, aggressive. The passing game is going to be all short (to be effective). Killin’ the Beavs on quick throws!

    Go Beavs!

    • Let’s hope teh Beaver offense doesn’t make the same mistake (pushing the passing game)! Run the ball, throw short, use horizontal stretch.

      Go Beavs!

  18. Why the f are we passing from our own end of the field on 4th down in a 1 score game?
Punt it give your defense a shot at least to hold the score. Just dumb

  19. I’m not impressed with this Oregon team compared to what they’ve had in the past. Yet doesn’t feel like we’re going to capitalize on it.

  20. Does Gebbia looked overwhelmed by the situation and total lack of leadership? I say go zone read/uptempo and bring in Nolan for the 2nd half. Give to JJ and mix in a keeper with a fly sweep, then pass

BTW our Tight ends are a no show, and receivers are undersized and not very good.

Why is it that Beavs never have the type of qb that they can’t themselves ever stop?

In addition, 4th & 3 needs to have a much better look than that play, because it looked like someone just spitballing a play without a real plan or Gebbia is totally inept at reading his opportunities.

    • Put in nick moore he knows the offense and is very mobile. A lot of the success on the ground is because of checks at the line. The TEs Musgrave has hands of stone and Quitoriano made a great catch on a bad throw on his one target. Apparently he’s our best blocker and receiver at tight end. I’m over champ.

  21. So far a lot of this story is them beating themselves. Besides the start of the game when they came out with an unexpected offense they haven’t done much. There has been lots of blown plays. They need to stop beating themselves. Hopefully they make adjustments and come out strong.

  22. Things that are working,
    Attacking the edges with speed.
    Jefferson

    Not working,
Gebbia is staring down his wr.
    Defense in general

    To do in second half,
Get jefferson the ball on swing routes.
    Keep attacking edges with sweeps
Have to keep Oregon defense off balance with play calling and misdirection.
    Pray for defensive stops

    • Defense has been fine since the first couple of drives after adjustments. There was that busted coverage tho. They just can’t make mistakes and make them drive the whole field.

    • Gebbia looks for one guy and never looks to the back swinging to the outside. He has to do things to keep the defense honest. He hasn’t done them for going on four games now. His downfield passing actually exists in this game though.

Our D usually stiffens up in the second half, hope that holds true. Just keep giving the ball to Jermar and then hit the tight ends on PA pass. I’m not a fan of blaming refs, my old man always says dont leave it to the refs, but this shit is getting ridiculous. Clearly the commish wants the ducks to be undefeated, so he can get that big playoff paycheck. Some of the worst officiating I’ve seen in a while.
    Ridiculous offsides, twice, not called
Spots are very duck friendly. Etc.
I’m starting to side with Angry, college football is sold out to the highest player

    • Looked like it, but it would sure help if the milquetoast TE could at least try selling it.
Some of these guys look like they’re just going through the motions.

  24. Why the heck would you fake a handoff with Colletto for 1 yard and try to throw to a tight end of a 12 yard route on your own 28 yard line?

    • The call makes sense. Just not there! Coletto has definitely shown the tendency to run everytime he’s in the game. The anticipation was a sellout (bringing middle pressure) and almost working like a TE “pop pass”. Was a bad area to do that. Redzone made more sense to me.

      Go Beavs!

    • Why kick? It puts you down by 4! That’s idiotic. You’re either down by 4 or 5?! You go for two there people. That was the right call. You’re not going to win/lose this off of that call. Oregon will score again!

Any coaches sheet in America will say teh same thing.
      Go Beavs!

  25. Musgrave is GOING to be really good but he definitely has some work to do. Lot of drops, not great with footwork (on the catch). Bright future though.

    Go Beavs!

  26. How long are we going to put up with river boat gambler Smith going for it in every situation. 1st quarter, own side of field, 2 point conversions when we are 1 for 10 on them, etc. Not the way to win a game that is within 1 score or hardly any close games. It works once in a blue moon. When you do it 3 or 4 times a game it is 99% odds going to bite this team in the ass as we have seen time and time again.

  27. 1
    3

It’s so predictable. Every time the offense gets it within a score the D lets up. They can never get every unit in sync at the same time. The sign of a terrible team/program.

  28. 4
    2

Smith is playing correct…. have to gamble massively to ever win these games

can’t win by playing solid…he’s a good coach for sure

going for 2 there is very standard

  29. Desperation is evident, not just surprise trick plays but embarassing efforts to stay afloat. On-side kick is next if they can score again. Obvious to see it coming, all element of surprise is gone.

    • They said Gebbia had to have a big game, and Jefferson was going to have a long night, and the next play he goes 82. Then they said Gebbia just had to manage the game and they should hand it to Jefferson.

  30. Whenever Gebbia drops back and releases a long ball, I have zero confidence that there is an even moderately open receiver on the other end of the throw.

  31. Qb sneaks at the goal line always work.

I guess we’ll have to look for a throwback pass to Gebbia so he can have two games in a row with a pass rush and catch for td.

  32. announcer so stupid he implies that we might go for it after the offsides on the PAT…

it’s like how some of you guys still don’t get you’re supposed to go for it or not depending on the score and time left… not just randomly

  33. Ya know what’s crazy, is this could go down as one of the most impressive wins (if the Beavs were to pull it off)! Need at least a defensive stop and/or perhaps a turnover. Would be insane.

    Go Beavs!

  34. Is this when we pull out the extra super tricky play?
Or do we just let our players line up and march down the field?
Jefferson could get up ariund 300 yards if we ride him

  35. that 4th down play had no shot. should have been picked. Smith/Lindgren made the fatal error of putting the fate of the game into Gebbia’s passing ability on that series.

  36. Whoever said we need to gamble hard to win these thoes of games. No we don’t. Beavs were every bit good enough to win this game but gave up points through coaching errors. Remove those errors and this was a tossup

  37. Wow! What a screw job! What a great resilient drive by the Beavs! Great job Chance, that is not an easy scenario to come in to.

    Go Beavs!

yeah smith sucks… you guys are clueless… he’s gonna be insane and we’re gonna lose him to a big school

if not for the insane spot vs UW we’re 3-1

Just for the record: called Nolan QB sneak as the call before the snap. Reason being: the Ducks were jumping offsides every play and fellatin’ refs allowed it, so that gives them a huge advantage where Jefferson wouldn’t even get back to the line. At least with the QB you’re right there and can knife past one of those assholes or get a line push, etc.

Probably the first time Smith made a good 4th down call, other than maybe vs ASU.

  40. Going back, what a huge 3 and out the defense did. Felt like the beavs had lost it.

Big guys up front just wanted it more on those short down situations.

    Go beavs!

  41. OK, I know it doesn’t count if ya don’t “call your shot” but I told the family before the game that I expected a Gebbia QB draw.
    GO BEAVS!

    That was a classic.

This is still a mediocre team, but that was one heck of a win and a great job taking advantage of a vulnerable Duck team.

Good to see Kolby Taylor finally show up.

  43. 19

I just love that Devon Williams played in that game. He was taunting the whole game and now he gets to realize he just lost the team he left at the altar.

So, NiceBeav, how do we score Smith in this one? He was about to cost us the game. He didn’t really win it. Just a wash? Still has cost us 6 wins, but tonight I let it slide. His players bailed him out.

  45. 20

I don’t think anyone has mentioned it, but this was huge because we were the only game on and it ended at a reasonable time out here in CST/EST.

Regardless of what you think about JS, we just beat a team with way more talent then us. And the refs not helping us. I’ll talk to my old man in the morning and post his thoughts.
