Lost another recruit. William the blanket Lee, decommitting from “university of Oregon State”. Didn’t know he was a commit but if they don’t even get the school name correctly I guess it wasn’t serious to begin with.
Even ASU has a capable qb, after Daniel’s transferred out. Why can’t Js go into Texas and get one of those 50-60 Texas high school legends? Seems like they go all over the US and start for other schools….
Very scary video of UW qb after a targeting hit late in the game, it looked like he was in a panic and unable to breathe. Maybe wind knocked out of him but it could be worse. Direct shot to his upper sternum between 2 tacklers.
Yeah, since when has “targeting” and a “blind-side block” become throwing a fore arm out and blocking the defender? The refs have to make sure that USC makes it to the playoffs undefeated.
OkiState player calls for Faircatch on onside kick attempt by opposing team. Opposing team received 10 yard penalty for interference for obstruction of faircatch.
I sometimes think it would be cool if we had Travis Dye as a running back. The guy is amazing. But then I remember that Lindgren wouldn’t run him anyway.
So quiet its like they’re on a practice field, no home field advantage, no pressure…and a pass short of the sticks…way to go Lindgren…then a pissed chip shot? Wtf?
Why do I even watch? It always seems like the Beavs return to the mean, no matter how good or how bad they start a season.
All who predicted 6-6 are wise, I am too blindly optimistic. I know the game isn’t over, but the pass plays already aren’t inspiring and ints will soon follow.
It really sucks we have Gulbranson this game. He looks like a deer in the headlights. Hopefully he can settle down this next drive and make better decisions.
Are people still making the excuse our coaches make stupid calls because they don’t have talent? I’m going with my original thesis the HC is a degenerate gambler with no comprehension of probabilities.
You have no clue
You really think this team has elite talent?
Play calling is fine, it’s the execution that’s failing
I’m so tired of the Riley references.
Early thoughts: This program has made little progress. Smith making dumb calls still with the onside kick. Very unimpressive football. Still with soft, cute play calling instead of winning play calling on offense. Lindgren should have been fired last week.
Yeah….dumb dumb dumb. Smith’s program is three steps forward and two steps back. Nice to see better than GA, but that already a low bar.
I don’t see enough discipline on this team to make-up for the idiocracy both on and off the field.
OSU won’t be now eligible if they continue to play like this the rest of the season. Disgusting to watch, they look like a very poorly coached team rn.
eligible for a bowl game, I presume you mean. I’ve reconciled myself to the fact that there’s one upside to bad Beaver football. There’s no stress in December worrying about bowl game tickets, travel around the holidays, etc.
Beavs have lost all composure and don’t look focused at all. JS is about to lose the team and the season is heading off the rails if they can’t get things settled down.
Stanford legitimately sucks. This game shouldn’t be close. Team is lifeless. Coaches are just gambling like they’re playing Madden ’01 in their freshman dorm.
the root problem to the football predicament is that there’s never enough pressure on the athletic department and Smith (and the coaches before him going back to 2003) by the administration, fans, and regional media to do better. That’s why, in the recent past, Tibesar was able to linger and Lindgren does what he does.
3 timeouts, guess the Beavs want to take um into halftime lol. Lose 15 seconds and get a false start then end up blowing a timeout anyway. I can’t even watch this it’s so frustrating
Unfortunately that conversation will begin after this season. Smith may just not have the right personality for head coach. Let’s be honest, can anyone imagine him getting animated and firing up the team in the locker room? And if he can’t compensate for the passive demeanor with superior schemes and player development he’s toast.
Haha yeah an intense personality is certainly not the be all end all. I actually like Riley more than most people on this site. But there are times when a team needs a kick in the ass. Smith just can’t do that credibly.
Its 11:46 PM here in NE. I am debating going to bed now and saving myself from disappointment and watch the second half tomorrow if we end up making a comeback and winning.
Beavs are 0-8 since start of 2021 when they don’t score 14 or more points in the first half. We scored 7. I don’t see Lindgren calling plays like he did with the 99 yard drive.
ASU qb got hirt today and they brought in the next guy who ends up making game winning plays to beat UW.
Kansas lost their starting qb and the backup nearly beats TCU.
Alabama lost Bryce young last week in a close game and their backup came in to get the win and won again today.
Various examples of back up qbs prepared to play, play calling adjusted for the backup or superior talent around a back up qb, but none of it ever seems to be the case for OSU.
This is a loss, next week is a loss, Colorado may be the last win at this point. I see it as 4-8 season and a catastrophic blow to the rebuild. Hyperbole intentional and no need to relax if you care a little bit.
The need to pass, be balanced, have an identity blah blah is not the same as calling the best plays by situation to try to effectively win, including which players play in given situations.
Bummed by that first half, glad I didn’t waste money on tickets for future games on this team.
It feels like the season rests on playing lights out in the second half. If Stanford drives down and scores to start the second half I wonder if this becomes a lost season.
This season is like getting hit in the nuts by your gf and then by the guy she’s cheating on you with and then for good measure, they both kick you in the nuts and you still stay with her.
GB obviously has some work to do with decision making. Would have been nice if he could have gotten reps to start the season. Since he’s obviously the most talented guy at the position and all haha.
Wasting a timeout because we can’t get the kicking unit on the field in time is the type of unacceptable bullshit this coaching staff is enabling right now.
Kipperwouldnt be noticed if he did that for USC. He would be able to tackle dudes as an offensive lineman. USC lineman probably lead the conference in tackles per play.
Luck of the Beavs=no respect and poor refs
At the timeout after that play, Kipper and the ref had a very long conversation at midfield obviously discussing that holding call. Not arguing but an actual discussion. Kipper’s body language seemed to indicate the same, the the defender just fell. Never seen such a long, calm discussion like this between player and official before.
Just got home, missed the entire first half and Stanford’s 1st drive of the 2nd half.
Have the Beavs looked this terrible all night?
Penalties, poor play calls, no Colletto in the obvious Colletto scenario and a kicker who kicks like a HS freshman.
What happened to this team? A shell of the team that played Fresno St a few weeks ago
It’s funny how the Stanford fans couldn’t possibly care less about the outcome lol. They are in no way an asset to their team but aren’t needed tonight.
No. He should take medical redshirt and hopefully that’s why he hasn’t. Think he could play if needed but any not wait 1 or 2 weeks and get another year.
I hate Lindgren’s playcalling and have all year but it’s tough to win without even a decent QB let alone an elite QB. I don’t put this on BG at all though. He’s being put in a really tough spot. If we can’t get a decent QB in the era of the transfer portal we will never have a magical season. You’d think we could get someone who just wants to start and can’t at a bigger program due to the quantity of high quality recruits the big schools pull in.
We have the run game we just need to keep the defense honest with a QB who can make simple fucking throws.
I’m beginning to wonder if there is some negativity that potentially pushes transfer qbs away from JS and Lindgren. Do players avoid OSU even when the need is obvious?
That TD throw was another dime from BG by the way. The arm talent is wildly better than the other guys on the roster. How the hell is he not the starter day 1?
Beavs don’t deserve a win if they somehow stumble into one. Undisciplined. Austin is not good. Kipper, physically gifted just not very good. Play calling is terrible. I think BL legit gets pissed at successful running plays. Special teams is a mess. How do you not have the kicking team ready on 4th and 20? Just garage all around. Great runs by Jam, great throw and catch by BG and Bolden. Not much positive about this game tonight.
I hope that happens, but this is still a disgusting game. It’s like when I want a hamburger and someone gives me McDonalds. Yeah, it’s a hamburger, but barely.
I like what I’ve seen from Bolden (said this game 2!) and Gulbranson, despite the latter having some problems. First full start, and he’s been pretty good. I think he’s shown a nice throwing ability. Biggest problem seems to be staring down primary targets and being slow to make the decision sometimes. I’m not sure to what degree these can be fixed.
This is a lost season. Regression season. Jonathan Smith would be fired if he coached anywhere else. Won’t bother watching the rest of this year and I’ve been loyal during the worst of years.
Why do you kneel instead of go for 2 to try to up by 3? I get that you can lose on a turnover to the house but that’s more improbable then Stanford getting into fg range in 13 seconds.
The call was Colletto on ALL of the two-point conversions. These coaches overthink things way too often. Plus it’s not like Colletto can’t throw the ball.
Yeah, their thinking was with 13 seconds left the only way you can lose is to have a crazy turnover on the attempt and it gets taken to the house for two points. The thing that bugs me if that with 13 seconds and two timeouts its possible to get into field goal range.
Well that can get the season back on track. I have a 65mile bike ride in the morning. Was going to go to bed because of that…glad I stayed up. Enjoy, Beavos. Gulbranson is the man moving forward. Get Bolden on the field more, too. Get Smith a reverse lobotomy, too. Big takeaways tonight.
Yeah but they are pros haha. You would think if football is your only job some other linemen would practice it. They don’t though its not an easy thing.
Ball hit the back of the Stanford DB. Harrison caught it and took it to the house. Sometimes you need some luck. Beavs never led until 13 seconds were left. Unreal.
Reminds me of the SDSU game about 10 years ago. Beavs didn’t deserve to win and did everything in their power to lose. Won it on a pick six in at the end of the game.
I feel the same tonight. The Beavs didn’t deserve to win and stole that one.
Undeserved? No. The pass wasn’t perfect, and the defensive back had poor technique at a critical moment when he shouldn’t have — our player took advantage of the presented opportunity.
Team showed some grit to dig themselves out of their hole too; on the road. Critical sack to force a fieldgoal. Won the turnover battle to seal the victory.
Yeah Beavs played terrible. I was actually wrong in how I thought Stanford wasn’t that bad. They are very bad. Need to step it up big time against better competition. Lucky wins like this can sometimes jump start a team.
That was a mix between the David Tyree helmet catch and the Crabtree play against Texas. What a fucking play. That should boost morale for sure and give Benny G some confidence moving forward.
Could be a season saving win. But this coaching staff is holding this team back. Undisciplined, very very poor play calling, not playing the best players and penalties. Not to mention the risks that Smith takes at the wrong times. But we have only lost 2 games and that is to USC and Utah who are pretty good teams. Next week at home vs. WSU will be a huge game.
Was watching that game with my son, can you tell me where the targeting was? If blocking the defender with your fore arm and shoulder is now targeting or a blind side block, we’re in trouble. The refs merely need an undefeated USC to make it to the playoffs as all these calls, that should be non-calls come at crucial points in the game that do affect the outcome.
….yup, and outplayed USC and Utah in many aspects — probably get a split if the coaches just ran the damn ball in the red zone.
These coaches are painfully stubborn or incompetent!
IF they can get past Wazzu next weekend, they SHOULD be bowl eligible going into the bye on Halloween weekend before a big road game against that dick and UW.
Harrison is that guy that catches everything if he doesn’t think about it — has cat like reflexes. Glad to see him react with his talents, and not allow the stone hands have a chance of failing him,or the team.
Go Beavs!!!!!
On that last 2 pt conversion, why kneel?
I get possibly being worried about turning the ball over on a pass, but why not let Colletto try to run for 2 and give you a 3 pt lead as insurance?
Or even run some time off the clock before taking a knee?
Instead we immediately take a knee to give Stanford enough time to possibly get off a lucky game winning field goal.
Not likely, but neither was a Beaver win tonight
Seemed weird to not a least run the ball. My guess is they wanted to take 0 chance of fumble/INT and runback for 2 by Stanford. Clock doesn’t move on 2 point plays/ XP’s
Ah…that makes a little more sense about the clock. But still surprised there was no rush attempts. But i guess with no timeouts and very little time to communicate the plan to the team, “take a knee” is quick and easy to convey
Or just send in the jackhammer. They know those plays well. I don’t get it and I’m hoping someone asks smith this week why not go with a high probability play on any of the two point conversion tries. I didn’t see all of them but read Ben rolled out on one of them and was sacked at the 5. Genius.
How often has anyone seen a fumbled 2 pt attempt returned the other way? Like never. Ever.
If it’s that big of a concern for a team that hasn’t had fumbling issues all season and none in this game, line a DB deep ffs.
Harrison made one if those timely “50/50” plays you reference.
While it should not have been so close, from scanning PAC game summaries last night, there were a number if those situations that meaningfully affected games at meaningful times.
Beavs are 4-2, which is not terrible given USC and Utah (in that order). This is the record i predicted pre season at this point.
I think the D needs to return to the same form it showed v. USC or WSU could be a very tough out.
Sounded/reads like Lindgren (and by extension Smith) was kind of randomly shooting in the dark trying to hit something rather than strategically and methodically attacking Stanford.
Utah has fallen, and UCLA, USC and Oregon will likely end up with a conference loss.
Pac 12 has more teams with a losing conf record (7) than winning (4)
And Cal is .500.
Annoying to have USC/UCLA/Ore as the only undefeated conference records. 2 teams that dont want to be here and the corksuckers down south.
Next weekend either Oregon or UCLA will have a loss.
Oregon and USC never meet. And then USC/UCLA meet in mid November. So 2 potential undefeated teams remain.
Realistically, Beavs have at least 2 guaranteed losses in the remaining 6 games, but also are not playing well enough at the moment to feel like favorites in any game excepts CO. Do they pull some inspiration from this W to go on a run?
Do we have a long snapper next week? Is Sandberg injured? Can Lindgren figure his shit out? So many opportunities but so much uncertainty. 8 total wins seems like best case scenario to me, 7 or 6 are more likely.
Your right, 8 wins only if the offense becomes more efficient. That starts with play calling and that isnt just on Lingren but Smith also. First and foremost, run the ball. There are 3 solid backs to give the ball to though both jam and Martinez have more speed than Fenwick. The defense has played solid all season so far and has kept the team in games. Holding USC to 17 points may very well be the Trojans lowest of the season.
It’s crazy to say this but pulling the rabbit out of a hat here may have put the “very good season” or even the “special season” back on the table. Looking at the remaining schedule……WSU is banged up and one dimensional (should be a win), Colorado is historically bad (win), UW now appears fairly beatable (going in there with a 6-2 record and riding a higher level of confidence…50/50 game), Cal isn’t bad but you gotta take care of business at home against them (should be a win), ASU program is in tear down mode (Beavs favored), The Ducks…Will obviously be the toughest game, and the Beavs won’t be favored, but its at home and if the Beavs come in with only 2 or 3 losses it could be a tossup. Not out of the question that the CW will be for a trip to P12 championship game. 9 or 10 wins is now possible based on the jolt we received from this miraculous win, coupled with the fact that upcoming competition looks less dangerous than they did in prior weeks.
Oh definitely 6-6 is just as likely. I’m just stating the top end of what I think is possible. With a loss last night, any possibility of a good season would have been foreclosed on.
I agree with all of those points, except that the Beavers need major help to be in position to make the P12 title game. One of USC or Utah would need to lose 3 times because they hold the H2H tiebreaker. I actually think with the difficulty of Utah’s schedule that could happen. But then there’s the UCLA wrinkle. They would likely hold any tiebreaker scenario over the Beavs because of their victory over Utah which is a common opponent. So you’re essentially asking them to lose 3 times as well. Oregon also needs to stumble at one point so that their second loss would be to the Beavs. It’s not impossible, but a ton needs to go right. If we still had divisions, the Beavs would still be right in this thing.
Well to be technical OSU only missed on official FG because after the 2nd missed there was penalty on Stanford and OSU got to kick again. So that negates the missed one. As far as the 2 pt plays. The long snapper got hurt and backup wasn’t quite ready for the first one, so they went for 2. My only beef on hte 2 pt plays is why not use Colletto? He’s their short yardage specialist
They’ve both had TD runs this season where they display nice vision and burst. If they improve consistency, they’ll make viewers lives easier (i.e. we might see less dumb pass plays from Lindgren)….
The Beavs won a game they should have won based on the talent that both teams put on the field. The only thing holding the Beavs back is coaching. Last nights game showed so many coaching flaws.
1- Discipline, penalties
2- Play calling was just awful
3- Martinez only 3 carries, he and Jam both need more carries
4- Is Austin really the best we have. He has been a liability
5- Using a timeout because we can’t get our FG team on the field fast enough
6- Team not playing with emotion
I’m sure I am missing other coaching mistakes but this is so frustrating because I think our talent level is better than it has been.
Also I thought BG played pretty damn good. Stupid play calling hampered him as well.
Next week vs. WSU will he huge for the Beavs.
BG has an NFL arm and also showed the ability to place the ball in the perfect spot for the WRs last night. It isn’t even close with the talent level, BG just needs the reps and to improve his ability to read defenses. Ceiling is way higher for him.
It’s equivalent to overthinking all of the what-ifs and maybes. It’s consistent with Smith’s insistence to always do the opposite of conventional thinking.
Do you know that the defense can return a 2-point attempt fumble or interception for two points of their own?
With a 1-point lead and no long snapper, it was the smartest thing to do.
I feel as last nights win, the way it played out, will be much more impactful (in a positive way) than us beating Stanford the way we all envisioned we would.
Gulbranson lead our team to TD drives in our final 3 possessions. I would must rather take that than coming out firing then stalling like what seems to be a trend in past seasons. Leading our team to TDs in the final
3 drives could maybe show he got more comfortable or started figuring out the Stanford defense? Any which way, players surrounding Gulbranson will have more confidence with him winning games, and that will radiate throughout the team.
Hopefully JS and the OC learned a thing or two about play calling and got a better look at Gulbranson’s strengths and weaknesses in real game time and comes with a game plan better suited for his capabilities.
One thing to mention, the better you get, you’ll have let down games or games like we had last night. Over confidence, looking past the opponent or playing down to their level happens to ALL good teams. The two losses in a row also had some impact as you could feel the players frustration.
I think weneed to get used to having 1-2 piss poor frustrating type games a season as we continue to play at a higher level. In the past, we were just piss poor and got used to it, along with the team being the underdog in every game so they came out hungry every game.
I think we witnessed this happen last night. We cleaned everything up in the 4th qtr…we had a couple defensive penalties that were ticky tacky that are no calls a lot of times so I wouldn’t penalize the defense for this penalties. We stopped making sloppy mistakes and ourdefense tightened up. The team played well when it mattered. Hopefully they learn from this because we were lucky to get the dub.
The mood here is a little too pessimistic after winning a road game against a good team with a young QB in his first start. Winning a game like that where the offense stalled for long periods of time is more proof this defense is good enough to carry the team for stretches. Bray deserves a lot of credit.
Gulbranson seems to need more game reps so he can make better decisions. He has a strong arm, but his sense of the play around him (in the pocket and scrambling) is pretty poor.
One thing to counter the lack of pocket presence is that he never scrambled out of the pocket backwards in retreat holding the football like a loaf of bread, losing 20 yds as he fumbled. I’d guess he was told to always maneuver forward in the pocket and take a sack rather than try to toss it to the sideline for an easy pick 6 int.
BG may have had specific instructions to limit possible game changing errors from his actions.
Lindgren and Js refusing to feature a 2 back combo of Jam and Martinez is kind of puzzling though.
But you have to think about how everyone would be talking right now if we didn’t pull off that miracle. It would be panic time. The bad stuff that happened last night don’t magically go away because of a last second win. It’s awesome they pulled it off and we’re all happy they did but there’s still plenty to be concerned about. But that’s two road wins this year they wouldn’t have been able to pull off in the past.
I don’t disagree there were issues in this game, but the mentality of the team was rattled after losing 2 games in a row. Look at UCLA winning at home against South Alabama. We came from behind for the first time in 2 season when scoring leas than 14 pts in the first half! That says more to me about this team not giving up and fighting through adversity and emotions. This team was playing with a lot of emotion and desire to win. Did they make it look easy like they did against BSU, FS, or Montana State? No, this team played with emotion rather than with confidence. That’s the difference between the first 3 wins and last night’s win. They have to build that confidence back up. Gulbranson has given the offense that confidence back and maybe even some swagger knowing they can make amazing grabs. The balls thrown by BG were only in the areas where his guys would make the catch. Where there any balls that would have been intercepted by USC with mote athletic DB’s, absolutely. But against Stanford DB’s the balls were thrown only where his guys could catch it. That builds confidence.
Lindgren and Niner are close personal friends, which complicates the matter of replacing him. Hopefully he gets an offer for a MW program with Niner urging him to start looking elsewhere for opportunities.
Niner outright firing him would be the equivalent of Riley firing Banker. If it happens, it will be too little too late.
His play calling is questionable at best, stale and predictable at worst. He had hit his ceiling as a play caller IMO.
Watched second half today. Here is what I saw overall.
1) Smith and company are still non-logical but more gamblers
2) Fenwick has good burst but literally money back guarantee goes down at first contract
3) Griffin is good and they need to let the beast loose.
4) Harrison is really good until he isn’t.
5) BQ is the better QB option for arm strength but poor decision maker. Might be part of Smith gambling club. Sometimes gambling works like 4th and 8 throws to Bolden in tight coverage and touchdown.
6) Defense came out broken first half but got back to business in second half.
Hopefully this game reignites the fire I saw in this team at the beginning of the year. Sorry I went to bed at halftime but it was nice to wake up to a win and shot 6 over golfing this morning.
Oh and forgot to add. Why would you knee down the extra point at the end of the game instead of at least trying for 2. Yeah our long snapper is hurt. But go for 2 so if they happen to drive down the field and kick a field goal. I know it was mentioned above but that was poor coaching. Not aware.
Well, it was a kneel down on a 2 pt conversion attempt. But it was JS doing his back-of-the-napkin calculations and choosing the most conservative option.
Great win all things considered. Lingren is not the problem IMO. Playbook seemed to be limited with BG. That said, I hated the play call on 2 point conversions. My biggest concern continues to be the D. Inability to pressure the pocket and create TOs is concerning. WSU will be a huge test. Ward will extend plays but could provide opps for our D to get some TOs. Coug defense will be a tough test for BG. I say we keep it close since we’re at home but expect the Beavs will lose in frustrating fashion.
Lingren is not the problem…My biggest concern continues to be the D
Interesting take.
When angry finishes his bike ride maybe he’ll put up a poll regarding concerns:
-lack of takeaways
-failure to utilize Jam (and maybe Martinez)
-absence of TE’s as receivers
-play calling…..under utilization of Hammer.
-special teams
-????
Who is deciding to call 3 pass plays in a 3 & out series?
Who decides to give Martinez 3 Carrie’s and Jam only 10?
Is it wise to be odd heavy with a fr back up qb?
Who creates the game plan on offense, and how is it devised for winning or for “balance”?
I said it last night: JS and Lindgren just got bailed out by an impossible play, but they should not escape criticism for very questionable in game strategy/play calls/personnel decisions.
Bray is the better coach of the group based on his results, turnovers included. The defense is the reason the team 4-2, the offense is the reason the team isn’t 5-1 or 6-0
I was taking to a former player this weekend and he said there was a game when Riley took over the play calling duties because the o coordinator wasn’t calling the game well. I wonder how much Smith is involved.
QB is the reason we’re not undefeated or 5-1. D is average instead of historically bad. Bray is doing a good job despite the lack of playmakers and below average D line. I have no problem with the RB rotation. All 3 are contributing. Agree the play call has been puzzling at times but that’s going to be the case with almost all OCs. Lingren did a nice job creating a unique role for the Jack Hammer and it’s been odd he hasn’t been using him more especially on 2 point conversations and in the red zone. Shoot, I’d like to see more wildcat mixed in at midfield and on 1st down. But I don’t think Lingren is the problem. The biggest issue is the QB and a D that doesn’t create TOs and put pressure on opposing QBs. That elusive “special season” ain’t gonna happen until we have those 2 things. Now, if you want to blame Lingren and JS for not being able to recruit or evaluate QBs, then I would say there’s a solid argument for that given the roster
WSU is an average team. They actually had a chance for their own special season after the Wisconsin win and being up on the Ducks by 2 scores late in the 4th. But they ‘Couged it and then went on to get beaten up at USC sustaining multiple injuries. They are a .500 team going forward with a punchers chance in most games, but are a team that anyone who is actually good should beat.
People keep saying we were pass heavy and needed to run the ball more but we passed it 29 times and ran it 40 times? Granted 5 sacks so 34 pass plays and 35 runs plays. The reality it it was heavier towards the run till the last two drives. Ben completed 69% of his passes even with a couple drops… one in the end zone. A penalty cost us another touchdown or he would have been over 70% and 4 touchdowns. Yes the 3 pass 3 and out was frustrating, but i believe there was a there was also a run, run, pass on 3rd and long 3 and out as well. I just don’t see where pass heavy was the problem. Inconsistent play, dropped balls, untimely penalties, BG not diagnosing the blitz, missed FG, lack of faith in the kicking game in general, going for 2pt with a lame excuse (the back up long snapper was used for a punt) defensive struggles in the first half were all bigger issues then the amount of pass plays. If we do nothing but run it won’t be long before the defense adjusts and it stops working. The run game continued to work because they continued to throw the ball. I don’t understand why we don’t use the end around more and I agree the timing of some of the calls is extremely suspect, but I just think to say we were too pass heavy is completely inaccurate
It’s the greatest time of the year to be out on a bike. We wound up doing something like 110 miles this weekend. It was just too nice to go inside. We’re biking the 300 mile Katy Trail in Missouri next week, so I’ll be gone. It will be the first Beav game I ever miss unless I can find a stream on my phone, but I’m not optimistic a phone will handle those shady streams well. If anyone has options let me know. Can I ala cart one pac-12 game in their app or do you have to sign up for the year?
lol at the idea of firing Lindgren. You guys have such short memories and assume whoever replaces him will be better.
If we can hang on to Chiles, the knock on recruiting goes away. Legi took like 3 years before he started being able to recruit solid DL players and now that’s one of our recruiting strengths.
Blah blah be careful what you wish for, you can’t do better than….. (used to be Riley) mentality.
What about finding a Texas high school coach who is really innovative, or a proven offensive coordinator from the group of 5/Or lower divisions?
I appreciate Lindgren is a dramatic improvement over McChicken/Baldman but his tendencies are to be pass leaning with mystifying sequences and huge gaps with no creative play calling. Part of OC is to keep defenses off balance and unsure of the next play. It seems that he isn’t succeeding in this aspect. But don’t consider replacing him because he might be the best we can get? Cmon, loser mentality if that is the outlook.
Not what I was saying. We’ve had a top 50 to top 25 offense since we’ve had at least an average talent level. His track record of offensive production speaks for itself.
Lindgren IS good at keeping opponents off balance with his more creative plays. If we had a consistent QB, he could focus on more “mainstream” calls, but would you design your play sheet around getting Nolan 10 chances at a home run ball?
The knock on Lindgren is he’s become predictable by trying to not be predictable. With our current talent level on offense and our WR corps having issues with dropped passes, it would be easier to lean on the run game 3 plays in a row instead of passing 3 plays in a row and going 3 and out. As an OC, you should have the next play planned out for if successful or for failed. Also, figure out if running on the edge is going to work or not early. If it doesn’t work, figure out which side of the OL is getting the push and plan handoff’s to go in that direction 2/3 of the time. On pass plays, figure out if PA, drop back, shotgun, or quick plays are needed and call plays accordingly. Lindgren’s in game feel for the flow of the offense is not meshing.
Remember, Lindgren is the Passing Co-OC and Coach M is the running Co-OC. Coach M is on the sideline and Lindgren is in the booth. I’m not sure Lindgren understands the zone blocking scheme and this is why Coach M is the run game coordinator, but to me that’s a problem at this point after 4 1/2 seasons of the co-coordinators.
This wsu game would be a great opportunity to get Alton Julian playing again. He could be a difference maker whether spying qb or intercepting passes or big open field tackles against them. I like the 4 we’ve been playing and cooper is getting better every week as well. Maybe rotate him a bit or 6 Dbs? Maybe a little Julian at mlb in passing situations?
I’m curious to get Hank’s (gomightycard) take on the game. How does he think Stanford played relative to their other games? Does he think the Beavers played as bad as most people on this blog are saying?
He hasn’t posted a recap yet, but did have this tweet exchange with some “sports writer” in Oregon:
Writer:No long snapper… down by two points w 5:45 left.
Oregon State must know Jack Colletto could probably snap if they get in field goal range.
Hank’s response: He could probably snap it to himself and then kick the field goal.
Just like a loss is a loss is a loss. A win is a win is a win.
How many things can work against the Beavs and still come away with a win? Beavs proved out the extremes of that question.
1. A freshman QB getting his first start on the road after a fairly terrible game the week before
2. A defense that hadn’t produced any turnovers in the last two games
3. 9 penalties (but 10 counting the offsetting unsportsmanlike)
4. A hurt long snapper resulting in going for 2 in key situations
5. A kicker who missed two FGs but got bailed out on one
6. Fair catching at the 1 yard line
7. Dropped TD pass
Sometimes the ball just bounces your way and that’s what happened. Looking at the stats, most would say the Beavs would have won the game without much issue. Out gained Stanford on yards, held them to 5-12 on third down, under 100 yards rushing allowed, didn’t turn the ball over.
Oddly enough the game might have produced more questions. It wasn’t a game that points the Beavs in a upward trajectory. Vegas agrees by making them a 3 point favorite vs WSU.
– Who is the starting QB going forward? Do they use the Nolan injury as an excuse to keep Gulbranson playing?
– The running back situation seems to change week to week but not in a bad way
– Penalties became quite an issue. Beavs were clearly frustrated and took 3 unsportsmanlike penalties.
Gulbranson made a good step forward. I don’t recall any really bad throws or ones that should have been picked off. He should not run the ball again. Maybe that worked in high school or practice but just get down or throw the ball away. I think he’ll get the start again and Nolan will be “held” out.
WSU will be a tough test. Gulbranson is still a freshman and prone to make mistakes. WSU really hurt themselves with penalties vs USC. Smith should remind them of the painful loss last year and make sure that doesn’t happen this year.
Yeah, he knows enough to get a win on the road in his first start and not turn the ball over. Remember he has extremely limited experience in game situations the last few years.
FIRST!!!!!!
Yes! In your face!!
That’s what he said…
SWEATYBEAVER IN YOUR FACE!!!
JAM
COLLETTO
FENWICK
Nuff said
OBB be ob-right Run the friggin ball!
And go for it on every 4th down!!!
yeah, baby.
looks like Utah is totally exhausted from running back all those interceptions for pick sixes against Nolan last week.
Lolololol. COTT material
You win the internet today
If they can run the ball effectively and win the turnover battle they win this game.
Beavs 38-24!
And score more points than Tree
UCLA looks pretty good.
Too bad there are only 150 fans watching it in the stadium.
Chip gonna have fun at Autzen
Lost another recruit. William the blanket Lee, decommitting from “university of Oregon State”. Didn’t know he was a commit but if they don’t even get the school name correctly I guess it wasn’t serious to begin with.
Chipster is back…uh oh.
I guess we won’t have to worry about him next year :)
OSU plays UCLA next season so they will have at least one more game against the Bruins before they leave the PAC 12.
Well, shit.
But looks to be in Reser
https://fbschedules.com/2023-oregon-state-football-schedule/
Holy shit does ASU have some fugly uniforms on.
Even ASU has a capable qb, after Daniel’s transferred out. Why can’t Js go into Texas and get one of those 50-60 Texas high school legends? Seems like they go all over the US and start for other schools….
They transferred in a QB when Daniels left.
I don’t think that was the transfer playing though was it? Didn’t sound like the guy that came from Florida.
I made that same comment to a buddy of mine. Is someone color blind?
Very scary video of UW qb after a targeting hit late in the game, it looked like he was in a panic and unable to breathe. Maybe wind knocked out of him but it could be worse. Direct shot to his upper sternum between 2 tacklers.
Thought maybe he got hit in the throat.
He got hit in the throat. He missed one play and was back in the game.
And I’m sure there’s a joke in there somewhere. BG???
Penix took a shot to the throat but was able to go back in for a few more licks with only a high throat sprain.
Wow. Mariners to the ALDS. Rallied from down 8-1 to eliminate the Blue Jays.
It’s been a year, keep that shit going. Record comeback on the road.
Cougs making the USC prancing ponies look a little silly.
Refs making sure that doesn’t happen.
Legal and effective. Beavs should know this.
Hammer knows!
Thats why they bounce it off the ground then you can’t.
The Amazin’s in the playoffs and then the Beavs. This is a busy sports night for me.
Interesting pitching Diaz in the 7th and 8th. I guess the “no tomorrow” philosophy? I hope whoever pitches in the 9th doesn’t choke out.
If USC has taken LA sports by storm like we’re being told, why does the Coliseum look half empty during the second quarter?
#USCpropaganda
Go Beavs!
Same thing Utah at ucla
Looks like Harsin will be available as an OC if Lindgren leaves.
WSU is experiencing the refs determining the outcome that we feared, a lot of calls going USCs way.
The scripted look isn’t as entertaining as spontaneous.
I sometimes think it would be cool if we had Travis Dye as a running back. The guy is amazing. But then I remember that Lindgren wouldn’t run him anyway.
Travis dye is definitely not amazing.
Classic oregon state treatment. On ESPN and a game running into it. Smh
ESPN News.
ESPNNews has National Cornhole tournament lol
Scott Frost coaching?
I’m seeing corn hole. Ffs
I think it would be cool to have a running back that can bounce off of a tackler.
Fuck the Mets, fuck BSPN, #GoBeavs
These assholes have 8 channels and can’t put a football game on but have fucking cornhole on one of their channels?
They just switched to it from corn hole.
Beavs > cornhole
Found it finally on bspnews
Stanford stadium 3/4 enpty
Can you blame them? 1 win going against a 3-2 team.
And all this talk about Stanford going to B1G? Fucking joke
I missed the Nolan news. How long’s he out?
No timeliness I don’t think. Don’t think it’s anything serious. However if BG plays well, hopefully they stick with him.
Looks more relaxed tonight so far. Better QB. We just need him to cut the INTs out from last week and we might have a good QB.
So quiet its like they’re on a practice field, no home field advantage, no pressure…and a pass short of the sticks…way to go Lindgren…then a pissed chip shot? Wtf?
Lindgren didn’t tell BG to stare down the safety valve short of the sticks. That shouldve been a check down. Gulbranson does not look ready.
40 yards isn’t a chip shot.
Typical Beavs though. Promising opening drive peters out and results in zero points.
Beavs have control of the line big time.
So the game is on freaking ESPN news
Yes…why are you still up?
Great question
Based on the start of this game, may as well go to bed now, brother
This is not winning football.
Well Gulbranson looks shit so far. This is going to be a shit game at this rate.
Well Lingren is gonna Lingren. Then we miss the 40 yd field goal. My god
Got too cute when running straight at them worked all drive. Then a terrible throw into coverage and then threw it away next play.
Like I said earlier just dumb it down and run it right at them.
didn’t learn a thing from their red zone experience from a week ago. pathetic
Um, didn’t throw an interception, duh
I meant play calls
But pass pass pass, when the run is working…only thing missing was the interception
They got in the red zone with running. Then started passing. Wtf?
Aaaamd a missed fg!!
Why do I even watch? It always seems like the Beavs return to the mean, no matter how good or how bad they start a season.
All who predicted 6-6 are wise, I am too blindly optimistic. I know the game isn’t over, but the pass plays already aren’t inspiring and ints will soon follow.
Well the positive was they ran the ball on that drive
They just stop running in red zone
They weren’t in the red zone.
Stanford offense looks elite
Lulz
A little beaver will cure most teams ills…
Their tight end is killing us. Did last two games break our defense?
8 INTs would break me!
Uck!
Defense looks like shit tonite
Gonna be tough to cover the 7 now haha
Great. We’re behind so now they’ll try passing all the time.
Lindgren=MR v_2
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
This is on the coaches….run the fucking ball!!
Even boring ass David Fucking Vanilla Shaw gets it!!!
Lindgren isn’t the only dummy. you should have seen Jimbo’s call from the 2 as time ran out vs. bama
The problem with the Beavers is the ridiculous rotating of players for no reason. Let people get a rhythm for once.
It really sucks we have Gulbranson this game. He looks like a deer in the headlights. Hopefully he can settle down this next drive and make better decisions.
This “Special” season seems like soooo many Beavers’ season.
Why can’t we have anything nice?
Because college ball is %83 dependent on the QB!!! And Beavs ain’t got one. (Did the calculations myself).
Special Ed season?
Seriously, 9pm slot for the coveted Novage nasal cleanser?!?!?
That wasn’t a fair catch sign!
You’re right
It was great…
‘Gotta get that crap outta your nose’
Grow up and snort coke like an adult
This is embarrasing
Lolol. That’s just so Oregon St.
Maybe when they put this shit back on regular bspn beavs will wake up?
The Hammer knows. Hahaha
He was waving at a MILF in the crowd.
good play action
Play action works because they finally ran the ball…how long til Lindgren tries play action every down
It’s looking liket we will have a go for it on fourth down moment upcoming. Get ready to call in the play
5 runs in 6 plays. Enough fucking around Lindgren. Time for 18 straight passes
Stanford students look asleep
tying run coming to the plate in NY. could be another hour before ESPN switches over.
Those kids passing a bottle of urine?
Gould is the new Harrison
That was a really nice throw
Another fucking drop touchdown
Flag?
No catch?
Wtf?
These Smith WRs are like Andergoon’s QBs.
Yes
Are receivers need to complain more to get flags. And catch the ball.
Thinking the same….time to flop a bit, sell it!
Fuck these wr
uh-oh. red zone country
Don’t worry with our sharp shooting field-goal kicker
Look how chiseled Griffin is! Lol
Keep running the ball assholes
right on cue, a false start penalty. I’m beginning to think this team is no better coached than Riley’s
Then they throw. Jam it!
Please God, don’t let Jam run 3 plays in a row.
Sub to keep him fresh.
Hahaha
That was a fucking great catch!
Velling is going to be very good!
Colletto. so simple.
Anyone else see this DT offsides every other other play? WTF are these refs doing
Velling saved the coaches on that one. Bullshit playcalling!
How about that? 99 yard drive
Gulbranson throws a good ball. It’s beyond obvious he’s better than Nolan. So we got that goin for us…..
He does throw a way better pass…best qb i ever saw play live Jeff George, awesome pass , shit for brains. Let’s hope bg ain’t that guy
“Cry baby George” we called him at Purdue.
Sounds like a shitshow….at 9 pm…no wonder no one watches..
Lindgren = Langsdorf in pure dimbshittery. Thank God Velling bailed out bad playcalling and his WR teammates dropping catches.
We’re back on the big boy pants ESPN!
Wow! Herbert is not at all marketable.
Are people still making the excuse our coaches make stupid calls because they don’t have talent? I’m going with my original thesis the HC is a degenerate gambler with no comprehension of probabilities.
That was dumb. It’s still early and a tie game. Kick it and pin them deep
yes, that was dumb
Is the thought its early they won’t expect it and if we shit the bed plenty of time to make it back?
Its usually because they see something they can exploit. To be fair they’ve converted onside kicks at a very high percentage.
Austin is a weak spot.
Squib kick and penalty puts Stanford at the 50 ugh
Shit another penalty on Austin
He struggled last year and so far this season.
What a stupid ass
Austin needs to sit.
Lolol. Alex Austin. Two straight penalties. Good times.
Austin, pull your head out your ass, dummy
Austin needs to go home. Gonna be a long night!
Anderson! I as asking about him in the last thread. Solid player.
Every time the Beavs do something stupid (players or coaches), take a drink.
Trust me, it makes this easier and comical
Fuck you, I dont have that much booze in my house
Amateur
Smith gifted them that field goal
Austin helped
Stanford gained 6 yards on that drive. The rest were gift yards and a chip shot fg
JS and Lindgren both regressing so far this season. Not impressed
Chip shot?
That’s two people tonight that have called a 40 and 47 yard FG attempt a chip shot. What???
Does coach steward think he looks cool with his sunglasses on at 9 pm?
Maybe thats why he can’t see who the best RB is.
Our QB needs contacts and our RB coach can’t see at night. Seems ripe for an optometrist nil deal
Can we kidnap their kicker?
Austin did as well
I got started laughing at the previous comments and missed the channel change. Damn
Nah, you not missing much, unless you like comedys
Guys…….Beavs kicked off from the 50 on the onside after a penalty. Stanford started from the 35. No big deal
blitz coming here
Surprising how loud 20 people can be
what are they trying to prove with a stupid long ball like that
Could have been caught haha. RGIII called it
Banking on the percentages that our receivers will eventually catch the ball.
Run
The
Ball
!
Here we go. Back to throwing every down.
Lindgren must have a clause in his contract that he gets a bonus for pass attempts.
BG another good pass not caught
NS call on Kipper
repeat my comment about a poorly coached team, like late Riley
You have no clue
You really think this team has elite talent?
Play calling is fine, it’s the execution that’s failing
I’m so tired of the Riley references.
BG has played well. 2 drops and stupid penalties. We are very undisciplined.
Thanks for noticing…
He’s throwing the ball pretty well tonight. He gets the most improved award compared to that crap show last week.
Sure didn’t look like he was blocked into the punter to me. The blocker tried to push him away.
Early thoughts: This program has made little progress. Smith making dumb calls still with the onside kick. Very unimpressive football. Still with soft, cute play calling instead of winning play calling on offense. Lindgren should have been fired last week.
He’s moved on to looking for a HC job and putting together a shitty resume
Someone needs to hurry up and hire him.
Disgusting to watch, they look like a very poorly coached team rn.
they look like a very poorly coached team
That’s because they are. Did you see the 4th down calls the past few years, the onside kick tonight, lack of discipline penalties, etc…?
Will they be later eligible?
eligible for a bowl game, I presume you mean.
Should start by firing BL
They’re down 3 points. Relax
Are you watching the same game?
Yeah. I’m watching dumb penalties and an adjustment to a different QB. I’m also not big on emotional hyperbole.
Lol
Very good…
This head ref loves the sound of his voice. Echoes of glasses ref…
Jay Stricherz
*shudders*
Stanford legitimately sucks. This game shouldn’t be close. Team is lifeless. Coaches are just gambling like they’re playing Madden ’01 in their freshman dorm.
They are completely lifeless. No fire.
BIG JIM catching the scratchticket fever? Says he’s surprised Shaw didn’t go for it on fourth and less than 1
Fenwick with yet another shoe string tackle at the line of scrimmage.
Jam getting over 6 ypc, Fenwick less than 4 ……..so……use Fenwick?
Yeah the Beavs can’t run. Gonna be a long rest of the season
Both beaver players that wear #5 should sit (Austin and Fenwick)
another pathetic display of football offense
Oh boy! Here comes the Nike hype machine
I love the announcer said Pac-12 after bedtime. It’s like the joke of the night for ESPN
has Austin been this bad all season?
Yes
Austin with the whiff…really?
Stanford knows how bad Austin is and they keep completing everything his direction. Utah did it last week.
Why dont we do more of the switching up looks like they did against USC on defense?
I’ve seen this episode before. Absolutely no pressure on QB.
Austin again
He’s not good, watch the Utah game they picked on him
Beavs getting absolutely sonned
Oh no we sick suck again
3rd and 10 and let them run for a first down. You can’t let that happen to let that drive get going.
Especially with how slowly that played developed… the handoff took forever.
This slow mesh is some boring shit football
Whatever buttons he’s pressed have worked…in reference to Shaw. Looks like the buttons are “play oregon state” lol. Man, we’re garbage.
did you notice that smug smile on Shaw’s face when they showed him after the XP? He’s thinking, “we got this one.”
I did see the smug smile and thought the same thing.
the root problem to the football predicament is that there’s never enough pressure on the athletic department and Smith (and the coaches before him going back to 2003) by the administration, fans, and regional media to do better. That’s why, in the recent past, Tibesar was able to linger and Lindgren does what he does.
Whats with announcers gargling Shaws sack?
Furd sucks, beavs just sucking worse
As I said earlier our defense is now broken. I got an early golf game tomorrow. Might as well go to bed. This team’s heart doesn’t seem in it.
Sounds like an even bigger waste of your time.
Time to throw, throw, throw!!!
If Gulbranson doesn’t have 50 pass attempts by end of the game Lindgren isn’t doing his job!
3 timeouts, guess the Beavs want to take um into halftime lol. Lose 15 seconds and get a false start then end up blowing a timeout anyway. I can’t even watch this it’s so frustrating
Just get on the damn bus at halftime
Did they ever get off the bus?
Just playing down to Stanford’s shitty level. They gave up 8 sacks and we can’t get 1. They’ve barely got any sacks we’ve given up 2.
Running is too effective … must…pass…every…downnn
Watch the 2nd half or put on a horror movie on this crisp, cozy night? Oh wait, this is a horror movie!
On the bright side…. our punter hasn’t been bad.
Only Colorado is for sure worse than the Beavs
Maybe?
good point
JS getting out coached. Pathetic play calling
When is it time to start realistically talking about a new head coach?
we missed our shot at Leipold a decade ago. it’s now clear that would have been a genius move, like Oregon finding Kelly
Yep. Jack and I were both all over him back then.
This team would be a whole lot better if we had Jayden Daniels too.
Play calling sucks and the defense has taken two steps back…but…
Also starting a new qb, all conference type te on the shelf, down 10 at the half…
Not time for new hc, yet
Solid attempt at conversation fodder! If you keep at it, you might just have an original thought that doesn’t sound like pure sensationalism.
Great username!
Thanks, brother. Hip hip, hooray!
And you might win a game one day.
Unfortunately that conversation will begin after this season. Smith may just not have the right personality for head coach. Let’s be honest, can anyone imagine him getting animated and firing up the team in the locker room? And if he can’t compensate for the passive demeanor with superior schemes and player development he’s toast.
Were you around for the firey big boy pants?
Haha yeah an intense personality is certainly not the be all end all. I actually like Riley more than most people on this site. But there are times when a team needs a kick in the ass. Smith just can’t do that credibly.
Hire Bo Pellini!
We could get Mike Riley back a 3rd time!
I mean we obviously can’t do any better than him.
He’s still in town. I’ll pose the question if I see him at squirrel’s again
We did hire him a 3rd time already. On Smith’s first staff
Look. I tried to tell y’all. I can lead a horse to water…..
You were right, okay? Ya negative nancy…
Seen this episode waaaaay too many times……
U call it every time it has to work out some of the time.
A blind squorrel finds a whole nut eventually.
Squirrel. Not sure what a squorrel is.
Not true. I said they’d beat Montana State
when I said 7-5 in the pre-season “poll” of contributors here I thought I was tilting pessimistic. I now think that was optimistic.
Done watching the Beavs play for the season. Have never quit on them, but I’ve got better shit to do in the best season of the year.
See ya next week!
You got me, see ya next week
Its 10 at nite…what the fuck else do you have to do, liar
JOPO. Jerk off pass out.
There’s always self gratification. That seems more productive
Autoerotic asphyxiation, basically watching beavs while jerking it
You should try that. Come and let us know if it worked.
Luck O da Beavs …. You’ll injure your wrist and there won’t be a back up ready to come in to finish you off so to speak.
This team is getting worse every week. Coach’s fault. Need a new one.
But, but, no TO’s in the first half.
We need a new OC.
And receivers that can catch..
What in the hell? Bolden? Everyone else sits
He’s half committed, wants the CU job
Colorado wouldn’t be dumb enough to hire him would they? Would they?!
Yes
Can they hire him at the half?
Nebraska should be interested in JS!
Don’t talk about it be about it. I would sleep all day every day if I lived there too.
A good night’s sleep is a necessity. Beavs being bad at football is a tale as old as time itself. You won’t miss these last 30 min.
JS has nearly lost me tonight.
It feels like the season rests on playing lights out in the second half. If Stanford drives down and scores to start the second half I wonder if this becomes a lost season.
100%. A loss tonight ends all hope for a good season, and likely even a bowl game.
I’m still confident they’ll beat CU and Cal at home. The rest of the games are a crapshoot.
We’re still Mountain West champs
Damn right!
Yup. Boise about to beat Fresno State.
CSU won for the first time this weekend since they beat the Beavs. Or the Eisenhower administration. Or something like that.
Beavs gonna get a TO again this season?
Maybe, if Austin sits
Hahahahahahh!
This season is like getting hit in the nuts by your gf and then by the guy she’s cheating on you with and then for good measure, they both kick you in the nuts and you still stay with her.
Is Mike Riley capable of winning a Mountain West Conference title?
Asking for a friend.
Can BG run at all? Need to pull out all the stops
Nice play by Austin there (winky face)
Good start. Still are in this I’ve never seen a Smith team quit.
Finally some levity to the emo-fest this blog is right now. Sack up everyone and have a bit of faith in these kids!
I’d almost rather see Gebbia out there on one leg
Holding lololol
Dude kipper killing us this game!
how do you hold on a play that quick?
Did he not see 9 guys lined up coming to blitz?
Lack of game experience.
GB obviously has some work to do with decision making. Would have been nice if he could have gotten reps to start the season. Since he’s obviously the most talented guy at the position and all haha.
When did I say he was the most talented at his position????
I didn’t realize that was obvious.
He was busy locking on to a receiver
Another missed FG coming in 3,2,1…..
This coach sucks.
Offsides. He gets another chance…..
He got it! Thanks to Stanford for proving me wrong
Sappington is money from under 40 lol
Offsides saved Sapp
Attaboy Atticus
Wasting a timeout because we can’t get the kicking unit on the field in time is the type of unacceptable bullshit this coaching staff is enabling right now.
Man we got ripped off. Kipper did not hold… not his fault he blocked well enough that the dude fell to the ground. How is that a hold?
I missed it but was very curious how you could hold on a quick play like that. Weird.
Exactly my thought.
And Boise state looks like a completely different team with Green as QB. It’s college football bruh….!
Yes they have. They actually look better now than earlier.
That TD called back would have been better, but the FG was needed regardless.
COTT?
17-10 now. They can still win this. Just have to score more points than the other team
That’s generally how a team wins captain obvious.
I love lamp
I think he was making a joke here, Lieutenant no sense of humor
Sorry, Its late, tired, and pissed not in a joking mood.
Lieutenant no sense of humor
What is Lieutenant humor? Never heard of this term.
I think he reports to Captain Obvious
Gaining some momentum!
2 passes really??
horrific coaching
RUN THE FUCKING BALL. Stupid play calling as usual
Back to back incompletions………….pass on 1st and 2nd down………why no love for Jam or even Fenwick???
Lindgren should be relieved based on that series alone
And abandon the run why? 3 straight passes to go 3 and out.
Lindgren gotta make them dolla bills
on a night replete with bad play calling, that sequence took the cake.
Martinez with a key missed block.
Yeah that was embarrassing
Defense finally playing better then give up big pass play
This team is now deflated and being hand cuffed by Lindgren.
Have we even touched the qb tonight. He has all day to throw.
Once. Doesn’t help when they get to hold and we can’t.
No. That would be a crime in California
Lindgren should be left in the terminal at SFO.
What the fuck are you doing Lindgren!!!!! It’s time to Abandon the run and throw every damn down!!!!
It’s funny how the Stanford fans couldn’t possibly care less about the outcome lol. They are in no way an asset to their team but aren’t needed tonight.
They are lining up in the neutral zone all night and not getting called for it
Has Julian played a down yet this year?
No. He should take medical redshirt and hopefully that’s why he hasn’t. Think he could play if needed but any not wait 1 or 2 weeks and get another year.
At this point, might as well do that.
Beavs saddled with the most irritating announcers every single week
I hate Lindgren’s playcalling and have all year but it’s tough to win without even a decent QB let alone an elite QB. I don’t put this on BG at all though. He’s being put in a really tough spot. If we can’t get a decent QB in the era of the transfer portal we will never have a magical season. You’d think we could get someone who just wants to start and can’t at a bigger program due to the quantity of high quality recruits the big schools pull in.
We have the run game we just need to keep the defense honest with a QB who can make simple fucking throws.
Probably should get some receivers as well. These guys literally look like HS players to me. Zero physicality or explosiveness.
I’m beginning to wonder if there is some negativity that potentially pushes transfer qbs away from JS and Lindgren. Do players avoid OSU even when the need is obvious?
Magical season? BWhat happened to “Special”? Over before it started.
Gotta put on their big boy pants.
Is this their ‘A game’?
War Daddies.
Beav runners look like they’re waiting to go down all the time instead of breaking tackles.
And still ripping off huge runs. Beav RB >Beav WR
Yeah kinda begs the question……Do we really even have good players? Other than The Hammer of course.
Weeeee!
BG With a dime
Like I said. We got ballers at WR…….LOL!
Bolden the only wr worth a dime
The degenerate gambler pulls one out of his ass?
Going for 2?
JS has lost his mind!
2?
Why 2 ?????
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
Wtf why go for 2?
Long snapper out, per radio. the fact that JS had to tell Callan the reason for his call tells you a lot.
And they go for 2 and don’t get it? The degenerate gambler indeed
Man, I said like game 2 Bolden needed more looks at WR.
I can’t…
WTF? LMAAAOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
RGIII is the best part of this game. Wish he called every Beaver game.
Hot..damn!
Yes, he had several good lines tonight.
Lol @ Smith. I remember doing that in Madden ’99.
Long snapper is hurt
Source?
The tv.
This makes zero sense. Go for two for the win if you want but why now? That’s just stupid.
Hand injury
I hope he doesn’t go blind
They have a go to guaranteed 2 pt play they can use next time lol
Yeah, like maybe putting Colleto in???? Why they didn’t use him on those 2 extra point plays is beyond me.
Long snapper is out of the game….
Going for it down 14 in 4th quarter is standard guys come on… only argument is how bad are 2pt # prolly is but its still correct
The sports books must love JS!! Fucking stupid as fuck. Why go for 2??
At least the rest of the country is asleep and not watching this abomination of coaching blunders. Shaw can smirk with this display of tomfoolery.
How does the team bounce back from this game?
Whew. Ok at least that is logical
That TD throw was another dime from BG by the way. The arm talent is wildly better than the other guys on the roster. How the hell is he not the starter day 1?
Dude really? Do you not read the comments or just gameday?
This D is horrible
Be nice to see defense force a turnover soon
Who has a backup long snapper?
Most teams!
Next man up… except for him. Let’s go for 2!
Long snapper is “hurt”
Coach speak for I owe some bookies a fuck ton of $$$$
If your long snapper is “hurt”, you put Colletto in at long-snapper and suddenly have an all-american long snapper. Problem…solved.
COTT
Can’t wait to see what Jonathan “Madden ’98” Smith will concoct next.
9 route
9 route
9 route
“Go deep!”
“Hail Mary!”
9 WR formation!
RUN RUN RUN
Never heard of a long snapper getting injured enough to have to leave the game….always finding new ways to lose.
Cut his finger flipping coach the bird
So funny. I stole it for a tweet.
How often you heard of a HC explaining his move to a sideline reporter during the game? JS feeling the heat??
Beavs playing so bad tonight they had a player decommit earlier in the day, haha.
https://twitter.com/TheBlanket8/status/1578866807322324992?t=IBihOTYB_Z0koHcNO_7C_w&s=19
Headcase
Finally they call a hold against Stanford.
Not much positive about this game tonight.
i.e. if they win all my statements earlier about them sucking must still hold true
You can win and still suck.
Way to stay committed
What screams good team to you? How many games do we win playing like we have the last 3 weeks?
Now we’re going to lose by 2
Or by 1
Something we can all agree on is we’re going to lose.
Didn’t age well.
AB blowing up.
“Service Unavailable. The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems.”
Beaver fans are NOT happy.
Weeeeee!
Was that a running td
We should go for 3 after this TD!
That’s on BG. He should have pulled it and ran sooner or oh idk….just run the fucking ball!?
Not on me!
Martinez, best back on the roster. Just has to fix his blocking.
Beavs have almost 100 yards in penalties. The OL taking their turn at an off night — 4 sacks and 4 or 5 drive killing critical penalties.
The WSU gameday flag thing is quite sad
Martinez 3 carries and 83 yds
We’ve ran the ball well, BL just hates running the rock and does what he can to avoid it.
Even if the D gets a stop. Can’t attempt a FG to win it. Long snapper is hurt
Yup
Beavs field goal for the win. Eat it, hosers.
I hope that happens, but this is still a disgusting game. It’s like when I want a hamburger and someone gives me McDonalds. Yeah, it’s a hamburger, but barely.
Can always upgrade to an adult happy meal
I’d like to see that. Then people with some actual balls can ask Smith why he went for 2 when his long snapper was “hurt”
This is where Shaw implements the 5 min offense — game killing drive. He toying w Smith LOL
Fucking penalties
That was a bullshit call
Brutal call
I like what I’ve seen from Bolden (said this game 2!) and Gulbranson, despite the latter having some problems. First full start, and he’s been pretty good. I think he’s shown a nice throwing ability. Biggest problem seems to be staring down primary targets and being slow to make the decision sometimes. I’m not sure to what degree these can be fixed.
Terrible call
I’m biased, but I didn’t really see a penalty on Wright there.
Weight penalty cost us the game.
Bad call
It’s not over
That penalty sealed the deal.
Well that’s it
Now I’m wondering if “The Blanket” will recommit.
No thanks
Rgiii thinks furd is up by 120
Who needs a blanket when it’s mid 50s?
RGIII sneaks in a “Stanford is pounding those Beavers” on the broadcast. No way it wasnt intentional, haha.
Speaking of, did Ryan Leaf ever appear again on the P12 Network after making a similar Beaver reference last season?
At least Beavs won the TOP, yards, and first down battles.
It’s comforting to know even if dumbshit didn’t go for two we’d still lose 27-24.
It’s always nice to lose to a team with a half empty stadium and dying conference….
….at fucking midnight!
Yes…. My triple reverse jinx worked!!!!
Holyyyyy shiiiiiit!!
Wow!!!!
Holy shit!
This is a lost season. Regression season. Jonathan Smith would be fired if he coached anywhere else. Won’t bother watching the rest of this year and I’ve been loyal during the worst of years.
Holy fuck
Never doubted them
W. T. F.
Oh my fucking god
Tree Coug’d it
As I was sayin’, like what I saw from Gulbranson…
Shut the fuck up!!!!
Hahahahahahahhahah
Beavers pounders
Nice name lol
Wow I’m thinking we need something to go our way. Treshaun says hold it I got it .
Why do you kneel instead of go for 2 to try to up by 3? I get that you can lose on a turnover to the house but that’s more improbable then Stanford getting into fg range in 13 seconds.
BC we have stupid coaches.
No shit! WTF
Didn’t want to chance a fumble, INT, Blocked kick, bad snap on FG to go the other way.
C’,mon, the call is Colletto, don’t chance a handoff or pass and certainly don’t take a knee!
The call was Colletto on ALL of the two-point conversions. These coaches overthink things way too often. Plus it’s not like Colletto can’t throw the ball.
Exactly
Was this the TD where bolden? Didn’t look like he had possession and a foot down?
Those Stanford fans look like Beaver fans.
With more money…
Isn’t it past your bedtime? Shit bro you’re committed to misery
Mom let me stay up because I did my chores
Why take a knee on the 2pt conversion?
Jesus Christ enjoy the win
Analytics city… don’t kick an extra point? That’s weird.
TreShaun “Tyree” Harrison!!
You got Mossed
#GoBeavs
Unbelievable
The only thing I can think of is that they didn’t want a fumble returned for 2 by Stanford to then lose the game
Yeah, their thinking was with 13 seconds left the only way you can lose is to have a crazy turnover on the attempt and it gets taken to the house for two points. The thing that bugs me if that with 13 seconds and two timeouts its possible to get into field goal range.
Shaw still have that smug fucking smirk?
We don’t deserve this lol
Team doesn’t … But we sure as the hell do!
Gulbranson has to start moving forward, right? He’s a better passer by far and just needs time for the game to slow down.
Clearly. The fact that he hasn’t been groomed from day 1 of training camp is not a good look for the coaching staff
Much better arm
I’m getting a headband
Richie Tenenbaum.
Totally agree Angry. He really played pretty good. But our coaching staff is getting worse every game.
Sort of Sean Mannion lite right now and he doesn’t have a Brandin Cooks. Mannion got better over the years, so maybe Gulbranson will too.
And if Gould catches the deep ball first half who knows how Ben does.
Holy shit
I’m getting a headband
The Cooper Scooper. Wow. Lol.
Angry Beavs were here for the team the whole time.
Harrison. Incredible play.
Most of you get an F for faith. Except a few of you believers, you know who you are.
Hip, Hip!
Hooo Rayy!
Hey I stayed up till 1:37….
Only a true asshole would doubt your fandom, Mr. Gopher
Same here! I stayed and we are now 1-8 when we don’t score 14 or more points in the first half since start of 2021!
Seriously?
Well that can get the season back on track. I have a 65mile bike ride in the morning. Was going to go to bed because of that…glad I stayed up. Enjoy, Beavos. Gulbranson is the man moving forward. Get Bolden on the field more, too. Get Smith a reverse lobotomy, too. Big takeaways tonight.
Season saver….till next week
Yep. Imagine how Stanford fans feel tonight. Defeat from the jaws of victory.
I was feeling pretty good about my 24-20 loss prediction late.
Never a doubt
Right. Please. That was some serious luck
Indeed…
Smith just said our long snapper got injured with no backup was reasoning for the 2pts
Why no backup?
It actually isn’t unusual. Long snapper is a very niche skill
Yeah makes sense. I’ve actually seen that happen in NFL as well so won’t knock Smith for that one
Much smaller rosters…
Yeah but they are pros haha. You would think if football is your only job some other linemen would practice it. They don’t though its not an easy thing.
I’m assuming due to travel number restrictions for the no backup justification.
And I was just as pissed as everyone the last 45 minutes over the 2pt attempts, and now…oh…ok, I get it
New strategy. Take out the opponents long snapper in the 1st quarter of every game.
No mercy
Colletto is not the backup?
He is now
Ball hit the back of the Stanford DB. Harrison caught it and took it to the house. Sometimes you need some luck. Beavs never led until 13 seconds were left. Unreal.
Glad I was wrong
Reminds me of the SDSU game about 10 years ago. Beavs didn’t deserve to win and did everything in their power to lose. Won it on a pick six in at the end of the game.
I feel the same tonight. The Beavs didn’t deserve to win and stole that one.
Didn’t Stanford steal one in Reser a few years back?
Yup, GA era, trying to run out the clock, Nall fumbled. Tree drove for the winning TD, a 15-14 victory.
Remember that Darrell Catchings fumble/safety? Only da beavs.
“Ugly” win? Absolutely.
Undeserved?
JS and Lindgren both get bailed out by an impossible play.
Still have a lot of questions regarding team composure, readiness and play calling.
Crazy win that is still a hallmark that JS teams don’t quit in spite of wired dysfunction aspects of the decisions made.
Shaw gifted the opportunity with super conservative offense too.
Yeah Beavs played terrible. I was actually wrong in how I thought Stanford wasn’t that bad. They are very bad. Need to step it up big time against better competition. Lucky wins like this can sometimes jump start a team.
The D waking up for the second half gets credit for part of that bail out.
That was a mix between the David Tyree helmet catch and the Crabtree play against Texas. What a fucking play. That should boost morale for sure and give Benny G some confidence moving forward.
You think!? BG sprinted all the way to the endzone to celebrate with Harrison! I would say that boosted his confidence.
I was thinking that Vikings play in the playoffs a few years back. Beyond idiotic defense by Stanford letting him get behind.
He wasnt to far behind them. He had to jump back towards the defenders to catch the ball
https://twitter.com/DirtAndSprague/status/1578997596118712322?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1578997596118712322%7Ctwgr%5Ehb_0_10%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fbennyshouse.com%2Fthread%2F22106%2Fofficial-game-thread-beavs-furd%3Fpage%3D48
like I said, Beavs are going 10-2 and Harrison is gold. All kidding aside, the most improbable Beav football victory since Arizona in 2008.
no ints
Could be a season saving win. But this coaching staff is holding this team back. Undisciplined, very very poor play calling, not playing the best players and penalties. Not to mention the risks that Smith takes at the wrong times. But we have only lost 2 games and that is to USC and Utah who are pretty good teams. Next week at home vs. WSU will be a huge game.
Looks like WSU may have lost their starting RB and one of their better WRs against USC. Beavs may be favored in that one after all.
Got a player out for the first half due to targeting as well.
Yeah, saw that; not sure how that was “blind side” really. Luck ‘o the beavs is the guy wins his appeal though.
….yup, and outplayed USC and Utah in many aspects — probably get a split if the coaches just ran the damn ball in the red zone.
These coaches are painfully stubborn or incompetent!
They could be undefeated if they’d stop stepping on their dicks.
We’ve gone from fire Smith to could be undefeated.
I don’t know about undefeated but 5-1 for sure. Still think they lose the Utah game even if they played better.
I never said that. Just stop
Didja hear Parker on that interception call Cooper Hjerpe?
Yeah, he just corrected himself in the post game
IF they can get past Wazzu next weekend, they SHOULD be bowl eligible going into the bye on Halloween weekend before a big road game against that dick and UW.
They’ll beat the Buffs at home
Genius.
Clock does’nt run on extra point….I think. So there’s that.
How often has anyone seen a fumbled 2 pt attempt returned the other way? Like never. Ever.
If it’s that big of a concern for a team that hasn’t had fumbling issues all season and none in this game, line a DB deep ffs.
Well I’m gonna keep on keeping on……
Beavs are gonna lose to Wazzu next weekend. They suck balls
Lucky as it was…………
Beavs first win in Palo Alto since 2006
Another streak ends…and 2 road wins so far
Woke up. Thought this could have been a dream. Checked AB…seems all good unless you guys are all in on this and messing with me!
-angryQbeav
Exactly, won a 50/50 big play and won the game.
Corksoakers, not corksuckers. :)
Corksuckers

Haha that movie provided code cusswords for a generation of middle schoolers in the 80s. So funny.
A win is a win but after watching that game it feels like 6-6 or 4-8 is just as likely as 10-2. Classic beavs.
Ah yeah I forgot about the no divisions thing. At least they’d have a good chance to spoil the Ducks’ season! lol
“Can Lindgren figure his shit out?”
Can Austin sit? WSU going to light him up.
Can Velling/Overman step up and contribute a combined 5-6 catches per week to replace lost production? They need to, FR or not.
Velling highlights for the play or two he’s in the game – great catch last night – then he’s gone. Puzzling.
Gulbransons throwing motion reminds me of Matthew stafford
Messy, messy (messy) game.
I don’t know about the wisdom in calling them, but any of the 2-pt. conversions attempted would’ve helped.
Any of the missed field goal attempts would’ve won it for us as well.
I like Martinez/Griffin.
“I like Martinez/Griffin.”
They’ve both had TD runs this season where they display nice vision and burst. If they improve consistency, they’ll make viewers lives easier (i.e. we might see less dumb pass plays from Lindgren)….
The absence of Beaver INTS was critical and refreshing.
I’m not sure how you can blame lack of emotion as coaching issue.
I understand #1-5, but didn’t see indications of lack of emotion. Examples?
Yes, Austin needs to play. It would be incredibly dumb to sit him. Cooper, Robinson, nor Thomas are as good at the corner position as he is.
I thought Julian was almost ready three games ago and then nothing. Set back or is he NFL caliber and not wanting to risk it?
Not sure but he hasn’t played a snap this year
Julian hasn’t gotten enough credit outside the Beaver bubble. I doubt he’s sitting to save himself for the NFL.
This has probably been previously asked and responded to, but I missed it. Why isn’t Gebbia playing? Does he still have hamstring issues?
BG has an NFL arm and also showed the ability to place the ball in the perfect spot for the WRs last night. It isn’t even close with the talent level, BG just needs the reps and to improve his ability to read defenses. Ceiling is way higher for him.
Thanks for your kind words!
What does everyone think about all the sacks? A little atypical for the team. Were they on BG or his protection? Way too many and almost costly.
From watching BG to me it seemed he did not handle pressure well at all. Moving up in the pocket when he shouldn’t etc
Yep, reading the defense and finding the hot route on a blitz is BG’s biggest weakness. He should improve with more reps.
If the pass rush is consistently getting home the OC needs to call some sort of screen play
He did and Gulbranson ran the opposite direction of it and threw the ball away and we got an illegal lineman downfield.
Is the kneel down on a 2 pt conversion equivalent to punting the ball on 3rd down? They’ll never expect it!
It’s equivalent to overthinking all of the what-ifs and maybes. It’s consistent with Smith’s insistence to always do the opposite of conventional thinking.
conservative call, no degenerate gambling
Hopefully they learn from this because we were lucky to get the dub.
https://www.net32.com/media/shared/common/mp/house-brand/house-brand/media/uv_98_protection_goggles_orange.jpg
Lindgren should consider moving on.
He should have used a whiskey soaked napkin…
The defense is the reason the team 4-2, the offense is the reason the team isn’t 5-1 or 6-0
*pass heavy
Amen! Comment of the thread!!!!
If I were a betting man, I’d wager game day will be in Eugene on Saturday.
Barf
Probably at Ann Arbor, UO and UCLA have a bye this upcoming Saturday.
My bad. Well, 2 weeks then
They’d be sitting in an empty stadium as both the Ucks and UCLA have BYE weeks
Just use a burner email and do the Fubo free trial
Sweet, I will try that.
I hear that streameast site works on mobile as an alternative.
lol at the idea of firing Lindgren.
Lindgren calls plays like a 15 year old playing Madden. It’s really that simple.
Ha, I guess he knows the Hammer.
He’s a “freshman” that’s been on the team since 2020. He should know some shit with 2 years on the team. Rona years still count haha.
Yeah, he knows enough to get a win on the road in his first start and not turn the ball over. Remember he has extremely limited experience in game situations the last few years.
New thread up.
