Game thread….Beavs at Fresno

148

What rainy night tricks did Mitch Dahlen put together over the bye week?
Some say Fresno has the best D since TT, will it slow down Legree? Will someone else step up for the offense?

How about defense?  Can the Beavs deal with the Fresno home field advantage (their O has been racking up nearly 200 more yds/game at home vs on the road)?

Kickoff 8pm…………..GO BEAVS!

Bonus, anyone gonna look in mid-day on Chip, Aiden, and the Wing-T?

  1. Dear bishes and muddafukkas,

    FIRST!

Going with the score from 2001 but the Beavs take it as sweet redemption.

    44-24 Beavs

The year of the beaver continues!

It’s another great day to be a Beaver.
Fresno fans know what is coming and are already calling for Entz to be canned. I’ve heard a lot of media heads talk about this matchup as a toss up since it is at Fresno.

I think Shep has the team locked in and ready to keep rolling. Lots of guys are back who have been injured and depth is better than anytime this year. Great time for the bye.
Legree’s presser quieted concerns in the clubhouse and now they can go play ball. Atkinson will be dealing and Dahlen has plenty of new looks ready for Fresno to try and figure out on the fly.
Defense will be playing with an attitude and Fresno will struggle to move the ball.

Beavs win going away again 52-13 and they jump into the top 25 on Sunday.

    Other games to enjoy today:
NW vs NikeU- 31-13 Lanning will deflect any responsibility as Chipster runs rings around the ducks.

Ohio St vs USC- 35-10 USC, I’m a Trojan fan tonight just to drop Ohio St out of the spotlight. OSU freshman qb will melt under the spotlight and J Smith will struggle to get his catches. Lincoln Riley holds off the detractors for another week

The key to this season that hasn’t been talked about too much is the SEC schedule change to 9 conference games and the addition of 8 losses within the SEC. So the narrative prep has begun to equate a 3 loss SEC team to a 1 loss Big12 team when it comes to CFP seeding. The Big12 is deeper and more talented than prior years and it still doesn’t matter even if the SEC has worse records. Yormark quit because he finally realized the entire thing is a setup.

  3. Anyone else looking to make the trip to Ole Miss next year?
I’ve regertted not going to the LSU game for a couple decades now, time to finally visit an SEC game.

  4. Early games with upset alerts. Need Texas Tech to not lose. Other upsets won’t help the Beavs that much in the polls but would boost up Boise St, making that game even more valuable

  5. Chiles looks like a completely different QB under Chip. I want them to crush the ducks today and then take a dump the remainder of the season.

    • Nah, let them crush the ducks and then crash the CFP party like IU did the last couple of years. It is one less spot for a blueblood to be gifted.

Here is my list of teams to root for:
Utah, NW, Kentucky, Wake Forest all to get to and win conf champ games
      Oregon St G6 spot
      At large: UCLA, TT
All of these teams are disrupters and would keep money away form the blueblood programs

Personally don’t have any issue with seeing Chiles or Chip succeed. Chiles didn’t wanna leave when JS left but had to go with the coach who brought him to Corvallis. Chip has been pretty vocal about his disdain for the current state of college sports and the splitting up of the PAC 12

    • You had me at “I wanna see Chip crush the ducks then take a dump on the giant toilet seat logo at midfield”

The villian can become the hero. Ironic? No?

  6. Watched a little bit of the Northwestern game. Looks like old school Chip Kelly offense. Definitely has to hurt when seeing that in Autzen but from the opposing team. He didn’t run that type of offense at UCLA.

Chiles career somewhat mirroring Dennis Dixon career. Getting a breakout senior season under Kelly.

  7. New Mexico leads SJSU 14-9 at the half.

Looking for a San Jose upset today and clear the path for a true winner takes all scenario between OSU and Boise State.

All other P6 schools would be a notch below and it will come down to the Beavs winning out.

  8. NW is giving the game away. How do they not know that all theyb have to do is hit Raiola a few timed and he shrinks inot a shell and becomes check-down Charlie. Instead they are struggling ot get any pressure on him and giving up big plays. Good grief. Mid tier teams struggle in big games to change the culture of the past failings. NW isn’t used ot being in a big game and having the shot to take down a reputed big program, and they are faltering when it counts the most.

    • Disappointing, given NW’s great start to the game, I was hoping this was going to be the “death knell” of the Quacks for a while, but now we have to hear the narrative of Lanning overcoming obstacles. Duck football is like a cockroach; even during their 4-8 season in 2016, ESPN was still featuring the mascot in all of their effing ads!

  9. Raiola is the perfect duck qb. Easy to hate and has all of the mannerisms of the Temu Mahomes. And he makes just enough plays for the ducks to be fooled by his “talent” but we all should know it is only a matter of time until he implodes on them in a big game, whether it is this year or next year.
They will now believe they are back in the hunt for CFP and their precious but elusive natty… Hahaha

  10. Wow, Indiana/Minnesota is crazy; both teams hit 60-yard field goals in the final 30 seconds. Now going into OT. Cignetti made a huge clock management mistake, and the announcers aren’t even talking about it, but he’s saved by the long field goal.

    • Fresno was overwhelmed by USC’s version of downfield passing and I don’t think they are better than OSU’s offense. Beavs should be explosive on offense and focus on stopping the run on defense. Keep Fresno in 3rd & long, force 3 & out punts, then keep the pressure on by scoring on early possessions, Game over by halftime.

    • Maryland hosting Illinois was probably at least 80% empty at kick off.

I noticed last year telecasts for many games do not feature wide shots. It’s a bad look for the leagues and the game.

  11. TT won, so that is good for the Beavs.

USU beast CSU….Texas State at Boise tonight, in Corvallis next week. I like that schedule….

  12. Ohiobeav calling the USC – Ohio St game. I wouldn’t have believed it.
Hopefully, it secures another mediocre season for Lincoln Riley.

    • It really helps when the Ohio St starting QB gets injured in the game before and is probably out for the year. Ohio St is a soft #2. Don’t think they’ll be a CFP threat without their QB.

  13. No 17, 19, 22, 23 and 25 all lost today and Iowa St currently has no 24 Oklahoma St on the ropes.

Thats good. Beavs just need to win tonight and we may get a surprise tomorrow morning

  14. Shep pregame seems focused on SpTms and Defense getting TO’s. May mean nothing, but then again it may have been what he’s preached to the team this week.

  15. In the endzone, does it matter that his heal lands out of bounds after the toe was clearly in bounds? I thought play is over if toe taps down in the endzone.

  16. Well, Voltin, with the sloppy false start, was really the issue. Otherwise, Reichle is not being denied twice from the half-yard line.

  17. Beavs dline is pretty stout.

Legree has already shown he is running free and they won’t have an answer for him with a full field to cover. OSU will be fine, even after not scoring on that first opportunity. They couldn’t have been much closer to scoring on 5 straight plays without scoring.

  18. This is part of the growth process for this group The game isn’t out of hand and the Beavs are rusty on the road rather than rusty at home. Fresno has some advantage in that, but the Beavs will steady the ship and settle down.
Atkinson looks a bit off so far and that affects everyone else.

  19. I think Dahlen is overthinking it with Legree. He has used Legree as a decoy but he needs to try and get him the ball more at some point. And it doesn’t hurt to try and run the ball for. bit to settle down Atkinson.

The defense needs to get a quick stop and the Beavs can score before hafltime and retake control of the game.

  20. Ok, I’ll say it. Dahlen had been a little too cute with the play calls in the Red Zone. They can run on this Fresno team. Newberry and Reichle up the middle.

Yeah, fuck this team. I knew hyping everything and everyone up so much only halfway through the season and hosting a hyped up signing for Legree would come back to bite.

  22. Luckily for me, I have seen the Beavers play this bad for at least 40 of my 50 years of life.
    I ain’t happy, but I’m prepared.

  23. This could end up really bitter if the Beavs can’t turn it around in the second half. Texas St. has scored 22 unanswered points. They’re only trailing 28-25 now.

Welp, I’m headed to the bars in costume. Might watch if it’s on at one of them. Will be more fun than watching this display thus far

  25. They need to flush that half and come out refocused. Hoping that they can settle down and get some stops on defense. Red zone adjustments, run the ball and establish play action, look for Legree on downfield routes. Pass blocking needs to improve as well.

The whole team needs a sense of urgency, which seemed to be there on the last drive until the fumble…

Atkinson needs to settle down and trust what he is seeing, he seems hesitant and has missed a few throws.

  26. Looking like a mediocre bowl game at best now….no margin for error.

Too bad they came out so flat. Apparently the bye week was not a good thing for them after all?

  27. Some last thoughts as I am in the Uber to the bars. I don’t think there has been a study on this, but anecdotally, I feel as though there needs to be some research on if bye weeks are actually beneficial. It seems as though a lot of teams come out flat after them. The fact that in the expanded playoff era only 1 bye team has won their first game after should give rise to this thought….

On another note, if both BSU and OSU lose tonight but then OSU wins out, which G6 team gets the CFP bid? New Mexico?

  28. what the actual fuck is happening? this looks like the 0-12 team you’d expect to see week 1. after 7 weeks of good football this is absolutely shocking. they look fucking pathetic and scared in every single facet of the game. and fresno doesn’t even have team stats that are truly beating them.

  29. 1

Such a disappointing showing when BSU is going to lose. This is the first time it feels just like the lost years with Riley at the helm. A great opportunity right in front of you with huge stakes and a top 25 ranking for sure, and they just completely face-plant in every way possible. It has been a team effort to look so bad and perform so out of character. It is one thing if this was how it had been since the beginning of the season, but watching so many games where they perfomred with excellence and attention to detail, this is a debacle.

  30. Well, preseason, I think I predicted 2-3 wins. They could get 2-3 more.

The lack of any offensive consistency And production is surprising. I could see losing high scoring games, not having an offensive dud.

It almost seems like Atkinson is looking off Legree. I wonder if the Legree announcement put Atkinson in an awkward situation and now he has had to answer questions he didn’t want to be asked until after the season is over.

It isn’t just Atkinson tonight but a lot of the struggle started with Atkinson in the first quarter and he was missing Legree running open a few times. Not usually what wwe have seen.

And of course Boise St gets an interception with a short field and a chance to take the lead.

  31. In terms of the modern landscape of college football, Atkinson probably lost at least a half a million dollars in future earnings tonight.

  32. 1
    1

Well, probably not beating BSU in Boise based on this one. Maybe Texas St next week is also in doubt. So we can hope for wins against USU, the flex game, and maybe a bowl game after that?
Finish up at 8-5 for the year in year #1 would be great and the last few weeks have been delightful. Lots of things to play for but now I guess the temperature can lower to more realistic perspective.

Voltin needs to run some steps for all of his false starts tonight lol.

    • We all probably did have orange tinted glasses on. All good, needed that after the depressing last few years. Just not play off quality like we hoped we were or could be.

  33. Next will tell us a lot about this team. Win or lose, they need to play harder and play better or else risk sinking back to mediocrity.

  34. I was worried that the team was starting to enjoy the smell of their own farts. Talked to a friend who was at a team event this week and said there was a weird vibe compared to earlier in the year.

The talent gap between conference teams wasn’t that great to begin with but the attitude advantage we held all season just disappeared tonight.

  35. I was starting to get a little emotionally invested in this team. Shame on me! Luckily, completely resisted getting financially invested in this hyper-commercialized sport as of the last several years.

Offense is great, as long as it plays Colorado State or a team keeling over from mumps LMAO
