Game Thread: Defensive battle with the Cougs in Corvallis? Naw!

685

Welcome back Trent Bray; 3pm start for the top two defenses in the PAC (yds allowed). But will offense be the story again today? Beavs are scoring more than twice as many points/game as Cougs.

Something to think about: Beavs are 93% in the red zone, Cougs 75%
Something else to consider: at QB the Cougs start a RS Frosh with only 2 college snaps.

Vegas has O/U at 52.5 and Beavs -18, anyone expect Beavs to keep the streak of beating the spread alive? 52.5 seem too high?

  1. I’m really enjoying how the Atkinson/Legree production breaks the narrative for the pundits.
Big Noon programs on Fox just spent a full 1/2 hour crowning Jeremiah Smith and Julian Sayin but they weren’t able to say leading “all” of college football for Smith. Legree is leading him in every category while they present him as the best wr and a shoo-in for Belitnikoff and Heisman. So transparently funny how hard they are trying to continue to dismiss OSU even in this turn around because it defies their narrative.

Beavs will roll today. More of the same. I figure Bray surprises will lay for maybe 2 possessions and then WSU defense will crack and the game will be out of hand by halftime again.
This will be a game where a first time starter doesn’t succeed against OSU.
Fill Reser and get in early, stay loud and rowdy!
    Beavs 52-9

    Go Beavs!

  2. Jeremiah Smith update:
    2 catches for 20 yards at halftime….

So the broadcasters are beginning to make the argument that he ought to win the Heisman because he is a great decoy that helps his teammates get open.

    • USA Today Ohio State/Indiana Game Preview:

“The Hoosiers will be tasked with stopping Jeremiah Smith, who has taken his game to a new level this season. The current Heisman Trophy frontrunner has 48 receptions for 916 yards with 11 touchdowns in six games, ranking second nationally in each of those metrics behind Oregon State’s Jesse Legree.”

So, he’s taken his game to a new level, just not the level of Legree?

And yet Legree is not in the Heisman conversation?

  3. The announcers are certainly homers for ohio state…..”I didn’t think it was a late hit on Indy’s QB.” Laughable!

      • Well Ohio St may be cooked if Sayin has a torn labrum or similar with his throwing shoulder. He was hit really awkwardly on a sack and pinned his arm backwards against his own shoulder. Left the game and has a sling for most of the 4th quarter. It will be a hollow victory if Ohio St needs to figure out qb for the last 5 games. And Smith’s numbers will suffer too.

  4. Oregon State filled a recent opening at receiver with its highest-ranked recruit in the class of 2027.

Gavin Honore, a three-star receiver out of California powerhouse Mater Dei, committed to OSU on Saturday. Honore was previously committed to Georgia and held offers from Michigan, Kentucky and Vanderbilt, among others.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Honore has 23 catches for 307 yards and two touchdowns in seven games this season at Mater Dei.

  5. Shep will have words for the wrs at halftime about those drops.

Pretty much according to script except for the drops and a bogus penalty against the Beavs defense. Maintain focus, don’t turn the ball over, start catching the ball and they will win by 40

  6. Checked the ESPN score page this morning. Their secondary market showed you could get into Reser today for “as low as” $140. Autzen?: $25. Hahahahahaha.

  7. First drive of the second half the Beavs need to put the cougars down for the count. Ruthless aggression and win big!

  8. 1st quarter…we win 17-0. Decent enough. 2nd quarter…10-10 tie…we were not sharp. The 3rd quarter will show whether this team steps up or stays in cruise-n-snooze mode.

    • WSU had dreadful qb play or they might be 4-2. The new qb is making a difference on offense for suure. And of course Bray has some success even against OSU. For the first time since Houston, we have seen several drops and Atkinson is out of sync more than even against Texas Tech. It is still a good test for the Beavs, lots of things to address as coaches, and the y are still up by 18.
      Don’t be anxious Beavernation.

      Go Beavs!

    • I was kind of thinking the same thing, but they are missing a player or two in the secondary. That said, the cougs have their QB1 for the rest of the year. Beavers need to play with their hair on fire! As soon as I say that, Newberry goes beast mode.

  9. Why does the game seem closer than 34-16? Even though the Beavs have put up 34 points, it’s been a struggle minus the two explosive plays. For all of Bray’s shortcomings as a HC, he has proven today the he knows defensive prep and planning.

  10. Someone made the comment previously how the beavers have struggled against new QBs starting against the beavers. Whoever it was certainly was spot on. Coach Shep and McIntyre can’t be happy with the defense today. Sure, it’s a rivalry but sheesh.

  11. 10

How good has the turn around become that we are disappointed and concerned with an 18 pt win over a longtime rival?

Better to have this game before the bye and before Fresno/Boise road trips. Lots of things to work on for everyone. WSU has their qb…until he gets poached lol.

  12. Wasn’t pretty, but its a W.

As bad as we were supposed to be before the season started?

Im ecstatic about 5-2 at the bye.

Lots of improvement needed on defense. Dropped a few ints today.

Offense seemed to be fits and starts. Credit to Bray and WSU D. Too many dropped passes. Still hung 48 on Bray’s D though.

Caleb Ojeda makes a pair of long FG’s on both attempts. Thats a weapon that may be needed down the road to win a game late. Nice to have in the back pocket.

AJ Newberry over 100 yards rushing and receiving. First Beav to do that since 2003.

  13. A push vs the point spread. Not our best effort and we win by 18. Other posters made all the points where we fell short.

Now to see what Shepard, the staff and the players do with a bye week before playing what looks to be a tough road game. At least we can show up and win on da’ road. Get things cleaned up, throw in some new wrinkles and see if we get the W in 2 weeks.

  14. From the Big O

The beavers filled a recent opening at receiver with its highest-ranked recruit in the class of 2027.

Ranked No. 806 overall and No. 100 among receivers in the 247Sports Composite, Honore is the top-ranked commitment in OSU’s 2027 recruiting class, which is back to 19 commitments. The group is ranked 69th overall and third in the Pac-12 in the 247Sports Composite.

Honore replaces Landon White, who decommitted earlier this month after being ruled ineligible for his senior season.

It looks like he had some solid offers and maybe another hidden diamond like Legree.

  15. “…Jesse LeGree strengthens Heisman case with insane 90-yard TD catch.”
“Oregon State WR Jesse LeGree accomplishes impressive feat faster than Jeremiah Smith”
“…LeGree hit a feat faster than potential Heisman Trophy contender Jeremiah Smith of Ohio State…Smith has garnered national attention for his stellar play across three seasons. But now LeGree owns this title: The first 1,000-yard wideout of the 2026 season.”

SDSU must’ve gotten over their Ricketts. Lead Fresno 16-10 at halftime. Hawaii also leads New Mexico 10-0 at halftime.

Ducks/children of the corn is a real barn burner. Neither team has 50 yards of offense nor can move the ball. Lotta punts

    • 1
      2

What will really drive Knight crazy is if Lanning’s product is something no one cares about. The Nebby game sounds pretty unwatchable. Won’t help them get votes, and won’t get them attention. For the Ducks, all attention is good, but the absence of attention?!?

  17. Any other old farts like me remember a QB at Arizona over 30 years ago by the name of George Mala’ulu?

His kid Jordan is a WR for Fresno State

      • Atkinson hanging on to the ball too long, dialing up plays that could be big gains if they work but slow developing, maybe not calling shorter quick throws. I didn’t like the amount of hits Atkinson took. Some of those plays he needs to throw it away. Still, 48 points is very impressive. I’m sure Dahlen and co will adjust.

  18. Listening to the game, checking stats, and reading here, the game seemed “disappointing,” even with 48 points and a win. But:

I think Bray called it mostly pretty well, and his players came to play for him, but 555 yards were apparently the most yards they’ve given up so far. They slowed the Beavers a bit, but simply couldn’t stop them. 48 points even with dropped passes.

OSU RBs running hard. They Reichle hit on the defender near the goal line right before he scored was something. I wouldn’t be surprised if that guy is concussed.

Full stadium just 7 games in. Shepard has raised standards for play and the team plays an entertaining offense with Dahlen calling the plays. Attendance is starting to follow. I was there in 23 for #5/6 UW, and apparently this crowd was bigger. Crowd sounded decent, student section looked great, but overall not affecting Cougs much, if at all? Texas State and Utah State are both slated for 7:30 pm start times, so I don’t see the stadium being full again this season.

That Cougar QB was a good runner and had some decent speed. Seemed to play pretty intuitively and had some nice throws. I’m not surprised the Cougar HC found a player at that position.

Beavers can clean things up. Eliminate the drops, get better at tackling. I do think some of the plays were slower developing and they’ll probably have to watch too much of that against BSU?

48 points. 5-2, and not far from being 6-1 (led TT in the fourth). This is a great turnaround with an entertaining offense and likeable, respectable staff that are representing the University very well.

  19. “Jeremiah Smith was held to four receptions and a season-low 68 yards but did score an important fourth-down touchdown in the final quarter. “

  20. CAL and HC struggling:

“After struggling mightily to start his sophomore campaign, star Cal quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele was benched on Saturday.

Sagapolutele, who missed the last game and a half after suffering a concussion against UNLV, was listed as probable Saturday morning and cleared to play hours before the Golden Bears’ 7:30 p.m. kickoff with No. 21 Wake Forest. But backup quarterback Jackson Brousseau, a Colorado State transfer who helped the Bears to a 25-20 upset of Virginia Tech last week, lined up under center for the 3-3 Bears and was named a game captain.

“Tosh Lupoi had a decision to make, he’s sticking with Jackson as the starter tonight, said this will be a quarterback competition moving forward,” ESPN sideline reporter Lauren Sisler said during the first drive. “Tosh told us he met privately with Jaron on Sunday, addressed the entire offense on Monday, telling them this was a dream come true as a head coach with two ballers at quarterback.”

Lupoi will likelyhave a short tenture there, Sagapolutele will likely be looking elsewhere in the off season. Wasn’t he a Beaver commit at one point?

  21. AP Top 25:
Others receiving votes: Wisconsin 92, Oregon 86, Arizona 82, Nebraska 65, Oklahoma 44, James Madison 29, Florida 9, Duke 5, New Mexico 3, Oregon State 1

    USA Today Coaches Poll:
Others receiving votes: Arizona 141, Oklahoma State 87, James Madison 80, Auburn 55, Mississippi State 32, Nebraska 19, Oregon State 17, New Mexico 16, UTSA 13, Michigan 10, North Dakota State 8, Wisconsin 7, Duke 7, North Carolina 5, Pittsburgh 4, Air Force 3, North Texas 1

Still waiting for more love, but some movement on the voting front.

      • 3
        1

Still in others receiving votes in AP poll.

Also did not realize, Fresno also has a bye next Saturday. Both teams have 2 weeks to prepare.

This is THE test. Pass it and I fully expect the game in Boise to actually matter.

Also curious to see how Boise does in Pullman next Saturday.

        • There’s a lot of voters who clearly did not stay up to watch 0regon vs Nebraska. If I wasn’t a Beaver fan for 40+ years, I would say that was the worst football game I had ever seen.

  22. So the barely worthy of AP votes Beavs only 2 losses were games that both close in the 4th quarter against the #8 & #14 teams
    Just keep winning

  23. Boise State at WSU will be a good measuring stick for OSU next week. Boise will have the advantage of a bye week and QB film to study this week. If WSU keeps it close or wins vs Boise the Beavs Beavs will control their destiny with a certain degeee of confidence.
I still need to watch yesterday’s game, had to miss it for a scout camping trip with my boy. Sounds like Beavs started fairly strong but WSU’s freshman QB was able to settle in and play us pretty even the rest of the way?
    Any notable injuries?

    • 1
      1

I think you’re right about BSU having game film on WSU and their new QB, and that’s something I don’t think the beavers had the luxury of having for game prep.

I’m glad the beavers have a bye before going to play FSU. I’m not sure what happened to them against SDS but they will be ready for OSU and Fresno is a rough venue to play.

  24. It can be challenging to beat a team twice. Beavers may have to play WSU in a flex game, and potentially in Seattle.

Also, beat BSU in Boise, and they could end up facing them in a conference championship game at OSU.

    • 1
      1

I agree but also consider the beavers probably had little to no game film on the WSU QB so that created some unexpected opportunities for him to run the cone read. My guess is the beavers defense will be much better prepared for WSU in games on the road. WSU has a pretty good defense so the presented done problems gur the beavers offense at least with the beavers usual ability to consistently move the ball. Regardless, these won’t be gimme games with WSU as I originally expected. I don’t understand how they only have 1 win so far.

      • The argument for the flex was to create the best opportunity for a CFP representative from the conference.
What is debatable would be the criteria defining how the PAC12 would be evaluated.
I doubt that the committee leans on strength of schedule as much as overall wins and style points.

Liberty and JMU lost a lot of support because they weren’t even competitive once they got in.

If the conference wants to ensure the best opportunity to get teams into the CFP, the need to simply seed it as home games for the top 4 teams and match them 1-8,2-7 etc.
It makes no sense to create a preset schedule other designated home teams, limited home games, no repeat games in certain timelines.
As it is right now, per conference rules, OSU can only play at Pullman for that “flex” game which sounds somewhat inflexible.
Creating a bunch of parameters only make it less appealing and more contrived as a weak answer to bad scheduling or lack of a 9th football member.

        • 1
          1

I just love that the defense of the flex went from “while it’s just impossible to find 5 OOC games” to “you just don’t get it, they had no choice”

Honestly, the Flex should just be WSU every year if we’re going to play any school twice, it should be the Cougs.

You’re so mad. For no reason. But cope I guess.

Anyway, I enjoyed how Shepherd was focused on improvements over the bye even during the post game interview, seems like a great hire.

          • 11

You keep telling yourself that. Only one getting worked up here is you. Your responses show that.

            Im finding it hilarious

While pretending they weren’t the mad one. Great stuff. Thanks for the continued comedy.

          • Part of the reasoning behind the flex was it being a temporary solution to the 8 member conference. It never sounded like the Pac was content with only 8 members.
So if they go out and schedule a bunch of future season with 5 non-con games you have to buy your way out of those games later if a 9th/10th conference member get added. Pkus you keep that ticket revenue in conference.
If the risk of losing to WSU and missing out on the playoffs is the biggest deterent, I hate to say it but we wouldn’t be worthy of a playoff bid anyway.
They even said the scheduleing of the flex game would be strategic to avoid jeopardizing the conference potential champions’ chances.

          • Weren’t the Beavs and WSU scheduled to play a home and home as part of the regular season schedule? If so, playing them in a flex game would be 3x this season? I could be wrong but thought they had a home and home situation without the flex, or is the flex game part of the home and home?

          • I understand that reasoning but we all know they want enough schools for 9 conference games so why not 2 flex weeks?

The reality is the PAC most likely is going to be 8 schools for several seasons and contracts can always be worked out. I guess I find it odd they aren’t even attempting to find games.

But I guess having that opinion is irrational and now we’re just supposed to cheer every decision OSU and the PAC make.

    • The Rams kicker was knocked out of the game in the first quarter trying to make a tackle on a kickoff. The punter kicked the extra point on their 4th quarter TD.

  25. At the beginning of the telecast yesterday the announcers said that Atkinson completes 70% of his passes against zone and something like less than 50% against man. In the first half that was definitely true, especially when throwing downfield. Will be interesting to see if other teams do this the rest of the way. It was effective except for the 90 & 88 yard passes. Take away those two completions and he had 169 yards passing. Legree had 7 catches for 18 yards outside of the bomb. I still think the duo is very good and Dahlen is too, but something to watch.

    • 10

I wonder if our WR speed may dictate less man and more zone for most teams. Something to watch but Atkinson has been highly productive in every system he has been in, so it may be more analytics that don’t tell the whole story at the end of it all.
He had a bad day yesterday, with drops and a few bad throws and still had 347 yards/3 tds. We are light years beyond what we have been watching for the last 10 or so years.

  26. 1
    1

Finally got around to wwtching the WSU game tonight. Wasn’t OSU’s sharpest outing yet, but they still put up 2 more TDs on WSU than any other team has this but year(Arizona and KSU both had 34)
WSU had their best offensive showing of the year but that looks to be more a product of their QB change, plus most of their points came in the 4th with the outcome really not in doubt.
On the plus side, we were forced to keep our starters in for a full game, which is experience they’re going to need.
Not sure why OSU didnt immediately go with Reichle at the 1 yard line at the end of the 3rd. They eventually did on 4th down, but seemed like they got lucky to be back in that position after a false start and Hatcher getting pushed back.
And how many years has Ketih Brown played? Seems like one of those 10th year senior type guys. Just go away already.

Anyway, for a sloppy game by our current standards, it was still a relatively dominant showing and WSU really never had a chance. But WSU does look much improved and may surprise a few teams down the stretch.

    • What sucked most was watching Clemons walk off with an injury. I feel bad for the kid. So much potential, and his body just failed him.

Sounds like DUII plus several others were out racing the streets of Eugene/Springfield last night and evading police. This sounds like a pretty big deal if all true. Their roster is about to get decimated even more. Couldn’t be happening to a finer head coach.

      • 4
        1

Allegedly the street racing ended in a high speed chase by the police.

Who knew this would be the result of giving 19 year olds fuck you money?

        • Yeah, honestly. 100 years ago I was 20, the dumb shit I did as a poor kid, some I was caught, some not, if I had access to millions I’m not sure I’d be here today. Seems like a trust of some sort might be a good idea when structuring these payouts.

      • 2
        3

Just read that the Big O states the street racing accusations were unfounded. I wonder if Uncle Phil made a phone call and a donation to the local police department to make sure the rumors of street racong were “unfounded.”

        • Seems like this one would be tough to cover up. There would have to be quite a few eye witnesses if there was street racing and a police chase. Maybe its true, or maybe they can’t say yet because they didnt actually take others into custody yet and can’t comment on the situation

Coach Lanning said “We are looking at this with open eyes and considering the teaching moment these young men have before them. First thing Evan said to me, he goes, he didn’t want to hurt anyone. Around here we preach ‘Ohana,’ which my rich, entitled self superficially understands to mean ‘family,” in Hawaiian. I thought it meant “cigar” but it’s much deeper than that. Anyway, Evan is really down right now, which means he better expect a Bear Alexander punch to the back of the head. Please respect our Ohana while we gather together and grow from this. Oh look! Payday! Another $420K just hit my account! Where did the last two weeks go?! Ha ha!”

Remember when there was a car full of ducks going from Portland to Eugene at 100+ mph, car reeking of weed when pulled over?

It’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt and UO gets to act shocked and talk about what a tragedy it is.

I hope Shepard is pointing this incident out to his players today. “Don’t be a dumb Duck! All right? Ok?!?”

      • That was Cliff “we smoked it all” Harris.

Who also famously said “money be green”. Turns out it wasn’t just money he was a fan of. Wonder whatever happened to that guy.

        • Darron Thomas was the passenger who drove the car away, because he claimed he was asleep in the back seat. It was the second time he was a passenger in a car where weed was involved–Masoli being the first time.

Cliff claimed the rental was his GF’s, but she was just some tool in the Nikegon AD who did what other AD tools did/do for Nikegon players.

He should have been cited for felony reckless driving, and his”GF” should have been fined heavily for insurance fraud.

And it already happened. DB Daylen Austin was the driver in a hit and run in 2024 that killed a pedestrian. His trial is scheduled for early 2027.

Funny how that story has just disappeared.

        • Austin is our Austin’s little brother. The situation is more complicated than a simple H&R, but he certainly did wrong by leaving the scene.

Nvidia has been paying an unconstitutional export tax for over a year. Not really a surprise they are going full corruption.

Like all billionaires Huang only cares about making himself richer, they are fine living in a controlled economy that they can corrupt.

      Sad but expected.

          • 7
            5

So it’s TDS to be upset Huang is donating to an illegal construction project that Congress hasn’t approved?

            How’s that TDS?

To me, it just sounds like sticking up for the rule of law. Support for the rule of law is TDS now? Actually that one tracks!

        • From an Article written by Michael C. Dorf, is the Robert S. Stevens Professor of Law at Cornell University Law School.

“Nvidia and AMD design their chips primarily in the United States. However, neither company manufactures the chips it designs. Rather, they contract with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which makes both Nvidia’s N20 chips and AMD’s MI308 chips in its facilities in Taiwan. Therefore, a tax on the sale of N20 and MI308 chips is not a tax on “articles exported from any state.” Not having ever been in a state of the United States, the relevant chips are not being exported from one of them.

The answer is not quite so simple, though, because TSMC recently completed construction of a manufacturing facility in Arizona and has begun to make chips there. So far as I have been able to ascertain, TSMC is not currently making N20 or MI308 chips in Arizona, but they could. Moreover, both Nvidia and AMD would like to sell others of their chips in China as well. If the fifteen percent tax applies to any chips made in Arizona, that would clearly violate the Constitution’s export tax prohibition.

Accordingly, depending on the precise details of the agreements with Nvidia and AMD, they could presumably void the obligation to pay the fifteen percent by moving their manufacturing to TSMC’s Arizona plant and then suing to vindicate their constitutional entitlement to be free of export taxes.

          AND I’M DONE……

          • 3
            1

FYI. The part you ignore, the corrupt part.

Is that if Nvidia sues, Trump can just ban the export.

Which FYI is what he would do if he actually viewed China as a competitor and an adversary.
There’s so much corruption you’re attempting to to defend this one corrupt deal is just embarrassing.

I mean, we’ve elected them to do that twice in the last 40 years, and they failed to varying degrees. So he’s probably wrong that will happen. But to claim those he openly hates would measurably increase the standard of living for everyone over the corrupt shitshow he incompetentently and illegally runs is next level dumbshittery, even for the dumbshit who just learned last year that dumb had a b at the end.

    • Just takes a one second search to find the right wing washington post article confirming. Summary from right wing Gemini.

Not a sad day to be a beaver at all. We can’t control how someone chooses to spend their money as much as I might disagree with their choice of donation.

    • 8
      9

It’s a sad day anytime an American chooses to ignore the Constitution.
Line you’re doing by defending lawlessness and corruption.

      • Like I said, as I Disagree with his donation, he does have the right to donate to whichever cause he chooses. It doesn’t put a damper on my support for the beavers either way. I certainly would much rather see him donate to beaver athletics than to someone of you know whose kind, but I have no say in how he chooses to spend his money. I have probably as much or more distrust and disgust for you know who than you might think.

        • Btw, I’m am defending Huang:s right to choose and am certainly not defending that other person who deserves no mention here. I’m former military and swore my allegiance to The Constitution and not some individual or party affiliation.

          • 2
            2

Let me make it as simple for you as I can. I support The Constitution and that means freedom of choice whether it aligns with my political leanings or not.

To suggest that I support his allegiance to someone that I prefer not to name and don’t support and never have and never will, is no different than him and his regime saying you’re either with us or the enemy within.

I can support Huang’s right to choose but that in no way suggests that I support anyone who violates The Constitution.

You can’t conveniently claim to support The Constitution only when it fits your political persuasion but not someone else’s. That’s not how The Constitution works and that’s exactly how this guy works along with his followers. They cherry pick as long it aligns with their political POV.

The Constitution works for all of us or it doesn’t work at all. That’s why we used to live in a Democratic Republic until you know who declared he was chosen by God….. certainly not the same God I worship.

            Have a nice day.

          • 1
            3

I guess I don’t get why you’re missing my point. Huang’s CHOICE is to help that person subvert the Constitution.

This is at least 2 acts Huang has taken that directly subvert the Constitution.

          • 1
            3

And my point is, he has the right to do that even though Trump violates The Constitution daily. As misguided as he appears to be, it’s his money and his freedom. Until what’s his name has been investigated, charged by the House and convicted by the Senate, people like Huang are going to support him bc he helps protect their extreme wealth. Huang is not violating The Constitution and is merely exercising his Constitutional freedoms like anyone else is. If you’re going to elaborate on The Constitution being violated, it has to be proven and adjudicated. Until that happens, he’s going to continue to do what he’s doing and so will Huang and it’s complex legal for huang. As for the other guy, the clock is ticking and his time for justice is coming.

          • 1
            5

I guess the key difference is I think Huang and Nvidia are violating federal bribery laws.

And his company and he have personally violated federal law and the Constitution. And I want everyone that violates the law held accountable not just the 1 guy

Huang doesn’t have the right to break the law, not even if the current DOJ will let him. In my opinion, he’d be smart to buy one of them pardons the guy is selling.

          • 11

            My God!!!
Don’t pretend you know the constitution, as you clearly do not.
There is no mention of White House modification in the constitution. Only that congress controls the money. In this case all the funds come from the private donations, not a single penny in public funds.

At most this is a statutory issue and the Supreme Court as already ruled in Trumps
favor. So, do you support the rule of law? I truly doubt it.

This is the absolute definition of TDS. If Clinton, Obama or Biden had initiated the ball room construction at no tax payer expense it would have been looked upon by the media and you as a wonderful thing.

I’ve grown weary of this crap the likes of you spew.

On the side, I don’t like Trump either, I only voted for him this last election because there was no viable alternative.

BTW, I bought a new Tesla last year. So there’s another reason to dislike me.

“Oregon State wide receiver Jesse Legree deserves your attention but he’s fighting a media machine that prefers to give the spotlight to the players participating for the conference benefactors of the respective television networks. ESPN, FOX and the companies that paid for the rights to air Big Ten and SEC games aren’t going to tell you Legree is statistically the best receiver — and arguably the best player — in the game this year.”

    https://fansided.com/college-football/oregon-state-jesse-legree-demands-the-heisman-committee-attention

    • I said it a week ago or do that ESPN would never let Legree win the H-man especially given how they attempted to kill the p12 and it still survived.

    • Makes lots of good points, although not a fan of ‘enjoy it while it lasts he’ll be bouncing to the sec/b1g,’ nor his slight of the media partners (who are doing way better than anything on ‘bspn the ocho’ streaming somewhere)…I’m curious to see what the talking head narrative shifts to if Smith numbers starts suffering with their qb situation.

Winning is all that matters at this point, keep working, keep winning and the rest will sort out. Hopefully if he’s snubbed for the heisman he gets the biletnikoff, he’s earned more accolades than he’s gotten so far, and it would do a lot for the school’s recruiting not to mention may help keep him in Corvallis.

  30. New topic : athletic department sending out emails to baseball season ticket holders with the donation amount needed to keep their seat location the same as last year. To sit above the walkway behind the visitors dugout in a bench seat is $21,300. Orange chair behind home plate above the walkway $69,000. This is the fun one, section C, front row best seats in the house next to school president and AD $231,300. This is absolutely horse sh*t, even worse donation only counts till 2031 then they do it again. I’ve had season tickets for 22 years and been going to games since the 80’s and they can go fu*k themselves

    • So if no one pays those prices then what? That’s pretty disappointing. Sorry you won’t be able to continue going to games. I don’t blame you one bit.

    • Customer just got his letter today, rights for seat retention were $5000 in section 2 (which is the bleachers below the Omaha room). Better than tens of thousands but he’s likely not renewing.

Sounds like their trying to get the regular folks out to make room for deep pockets who have likely been sidelined and kept out of Goss because of people who have provided long-term support. Unfortunate.

It could very well be no further contact by other parties until.after the season, or do not contact as I’ve already made my decision about next season. Either way, I enjoy watching this kid play the game he lives and how he represents Beaver Nation.

    • Well it is kind of a challenge when I hear podcasters predicting he will get upwards of $10 million from wherever he transfers. Assuming he wants to transfer.

If he is a Heisman finalist/winner this year, he may just run it back with Shepard and see what he could do in year 2.

We may see Brandin Cooks have something to say about Legree staying or leaving as well. Shepard’s most visible alum legends are the star Wide Receivers of the past 26 years.
Cooks, Ocho Cinco and TJ have all chimed in already. Legree is the electric superstar that garners national attention. He may be part of the reason for preseason hype going into next year if he stays.

I’m hopeful they are working on a great NIL opportunity for him to stay in spite of the multiple Brinks truck offers from all of the schools who spurned him out of high school.
Winning can open a lot more OSU pocketbooks for NIL than a dumb marketing scheme that siphons 60% off the top.

    • Haha! Lanning says We’re not even going to fake a cover up. Just don’t talk about it okay!!!

Sounds like Portland public schools with the Jefferson player who decked the grant player in pregame! Oooh boy! Nobody saw nuthin okay!!!

    • It’ll be handled internally and I won’t be responding to any other questions about it. By the way, did you see the hit on Dante Moore at USC? Travesty. We are rallying to his side, because we respect the game. Look! Dante Moore!”

  32. The real question with regards to NIL is what we think it will take to keep this roster next season.

Anyone know what OSU is spending on football this year? Heard WSU is around $7 million and we are supposed to be lower. Anyone know?

  33. Tiger droppings board is discussing it. I think there’s a high likelihood and money on the table. Legree will be in the bayou with the bayou bengals getting coached up by Kiffin soon enough. Might have to do with the decision day. ?

    • If he makes a public announcement that he is leaving mid season, you can’t keep him on the roster at all.

      I can’t believe that’s the announcement.

    • 1
      2

Getting coached up like he’s not being coached up now? Lol. He’s the featured player on this team and he is showing it. That doesn’t mean he’d be the featured guy in a P4 program.

As the lady beavers BB team found out after the 2023 season by transferring to Oklahoma, USC, UCLA, Kentucky and TCU, it didn’t result in the exposure or PT they thought they would get. Reagan Beers was the only one that had more exposure while the rest of them really were just average players on P4 programs.

Right now he’s in a great offensive scheme with a great HC and offensive coordinator and he’s playing against inferior competition. That’s not yo diminish his skill set but in the B10 and SEC, they’re the cream of the crop and stepping up to that level and having similar success would be a tall order. Plus there is plenty of game film on him now so the talent in p4 wouldn’t be as easy to run up big numbers against.

I think he stays one more season and then he can cash in those chips. Either way, he’s a great kid and fun to watch but LSU….keep dreaming.

        • She started but wasn’t a featured player. She was the guard from south medford. TVO also started at USC but was really just an after thought inist games as that USC was full of star players and TVO was just a role player IMO.

I agree that I’d take shuler too. She has developed into quite a talent with her only weakness free throw shooting and perimeter shooting although I did see some modest improvement in those two areas last year.

I think the lady beavers could be very good this year especially if Cat F is awarded another year of eligibility by the NCAA. I haven’t heard anything about that issue for several weeks now.

I just checked the roster and she does show on the roster and her bio says she used the Pavia waiver to get another year of eligibility so it appears she is eligible I guess? However, I don’t recall seeing any news about her being granted a 5th year.

          • I guess that Pavia waiver was granted for the 25-26 season but she was injured so that’s why they have tried to get her eligibility for 26-27 but it’s unclear whether it has been granted yet. She is on the roster fwiw

          • Tell us you know nothing without telling us you know nothing. Shuler has serious shooting problems. To wit: 3 point FG% the last 3 years: .143, .210 and .132. FT% the last 3 years: .412, .580 and .567. Those are pathetic numbers for a point guard. “I did see modest improvement in those areas last year.” Really? Now, let’s look at Donovyn Hunter: 3 point FG% the last 3 years: .333, .340 and .337. FT% the last 3 years: .607, .741 and .738. Hunter is a superior defender, often drawing the other team’s best guard. She is taller, more athletic and a superior rebounder. Regarding Shuler: if she hasn’t been able to develop an outside shot by the time she is 21, it ain’t going to happen. At least we know not to trust your judgment on OSU women’s BB.

          • 1
            1

Hunter is nowhere near the defender Schuler is. She’s decent. She also lacks situational awareness, having several 10 second calls on her, without any defenders.

Hunter never had the hustle Schuler has. Shooting is the only metric where Hunter wins.

          • Wrong. Hunter was All Pac-12 as a freshman. She has since been named to the All Big-12 defensive team since she has been at TCU. You will counter that Shuler was named all Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. But to say that, “Hunter is nowhere near the defender Shuler is” and call Hunter “decent” is simply being ignorant. You can have Shuler. I’ll take Hunter any day. Your lack of knowledge is out there for all to see when you can’t even spell Shuler’s name right.

          • lol.

They aren’t comparable. Hunter is lacking in several categories where Shuler shines on D. As much as Hunter is a better perimeter offensive weapon versus Shuler, Shuler is that much better on D. I will take the glue baller over the glam every time.

          • If Shuler was so good, why was Hunter the point guard that Rueck chose to lead the team 3 years ago? Hunter is a legitimate 6’0” and Shuler, although she is listed at 5”10” is hardly that. Hunter drew the toughest guard assignments on defense while at Oregon State and continues to do so at TCU. She is way more versatile as evidenced by her moving to shooting guard this last year to accommodate Olivia Miles. Can you imagine Shuler being a shooting guard? Of course not. Her defender sags and clogs the middle because of her inability to hit the outside shot. At least 3 times last year her free throw missed the rim to the right entirely and hit the backboard. Defensively, she draws the other teams PG and not their best scoring guard. To say they “aren’t comparable” is just highlighting your ignorance.

Had to look up who that was lol…Adlee Blacklock. Must be someone else you’re thinking of(?)…she was from Lubbock, never started there and the teams she was on never made it to even an Elite Eight apparently

Lots of whatshernames from that team though so understandable. Harder to understand why they’d break up a potential final 4 ready team for ‘more opportunity’ which didn’t materialize for most. That Beav wbb team was an epitome of ‘the whole greater than the sum of the parts’

  34. 3

Legree should be cautious about transferring anywhere. He currently is a key part of the best offense in the country and is playing with the best qb in the nation as well.
I don’t think he would have a better situation to make a name for himself than to stay and put up huge numbers in Dahlen’s offense.

Bolden was the WR1 at OSU and went to Texas as an undersized WR and never even saw the field. In those programs, they will relegate him to a back-up and never give him a shot to put up numbers anywhere close to what he can do at OSU.

I’d say OSU needs to find about $8-$10million to split between Atkinson and Legree in order to keep them both. Hopefully the family aspect and giving them each a shot is an advantage for Shepard in trying to keep them in Corvallis. If the Beavs cna make a CFP run this year, then the argument for the entire team is to run it back and make another run at it in year 2, with even more talent coming in from the portal who want to play in this system.

    • Money talks. Even if he doesn’t get playing time, hard to turn down somewhere that can offer double OSU. He’ll be good down in the bayou.

    • All it takes is a one time payment to (potentially) change his life and that of his family. Even if he doesn’t put up the same numbers. Any of these players are a major injury away from significantly decreased to no monetary value. $10-fucking -M?!? How does a young person pass that up when it could change their family’s future in a tremendous way IF they have common sense and sound advice?

I like what you’re saying, but it assumes everyone healthy and OSU’s O and D lines improve.

    • I think a real challenge that isn’t discussed is he’s an east coast kid. He came to OSU because they could see talent and potential and he had no other offers. Now he’ll have offers. Playing in an eastern time zone might be really important given his family.

Hell, I have NO interest in living back east. If I had to for a year, and someone offered me millions to come back west?

      • Having lived in Ohio, most people see it as Midwest but it’s essentially east, I’d never go back in once I’ve been in Oregon or out west pretty much anywhere west of the Rockies.

He is young and the family location is a pertinent point in the equation.

  35. 10

Regardless of its outcome, I feel like Legree and his father scheduling some vague midseason press conference for him and calling it “Decision Day” and making people have to pay money to watch it says a lot of things about their character and it’s not good things….

    • Its risks distracting the team and Legree for the second half of the season unless it ends up calling attention to some OSU-based deal.

    • In today’s college world of athletics, you parlay on your success when the spotlight is on you because that spotlight can quickly fade with an injury or a few back to back games. He knows what he’s doing and do do his teammates.

    • I want to enjoy this season, as next year Sheppard, Dahlen, Atkinson and Legree will all be making millions in Seattle. Best case scenario is Dahlen stays as HC. UW sucks, they have $$$ and Sheppard coached there.

      • UW does’t have money though. At least that’s what Fisch was openly complaining about last week.
So they’d need to magically come up with enough money to fire Fisch and poach our entire staff/team

Listen to the wording carefully here. Lanning gives a statement on the Stewart “incident” and says it will be handled internally and he’ll have nothing more to say about it.
Basically telling reporters you can’t ask me any more questions about Stewart.
(He also almost said “some incidents” but corrected himself and said “an incident”)

The reporter decides to ask a question about the “other incident” rumored about last night(the car racing that supposedly wasnt related to duck players).
You can tell Lanning didn’t like getting that follow up question and tries to cleverly roll that incident into his non-answer about the initial DUII incident. “They’re the same thing”

So like we already knew all along(because everybody outside of Eugene aren’t fucking idiots), the car chase rumors were all connected with the DUII issue too and there are likely many more players involved. The whole damage control story this morning was bullshit as suspected.
Kudos to Brenna Greene for asking the question perfectly and making Lanning flounder.

    https://x.com/BrennaGreene_/status/2112403126758342737

    • “Former Auburn star linebacker Xavier Atkins has been dismissed from the team, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported late Monday, Oct. 19.

Atkins was suspended for the Tigers’ upset over then-No. 1 Georgia in Week 7 for an undisclosed reason, with first-year coach Alex Golesh noting the team would handle the situation internally.”

  37. “…there’s a massive shakeup in the Heisman Trophy race.

Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith maintains the top spot after Ohio State’s 19-15 road win over Indiana on Oct. 17, catching four passes for 68 yards and a touchdown. While Smith still leads, there are two newcomers on USA TODAY’s list.

Oregon State’s Jesse Legree also continues lighting up opposing defenses. The nation’s receiving yards and receiving touchdowns leader caught eight passes for 108 yards with two touchdowns in the Beavers’ 48-30 win over Washington State, which marked his fourth consecutive game with two or more touchdowns.

    4. Jesse Legree, Oregon State ?? (11)

Legree is one of the college football’s breakout stars this season, going from only two reported Power Four offers to leading the country with 1,040 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns through seven games. He has gone for over 100 receiving yards with at least a touchdown in every game of his short college career so far.”

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2026/10/19/heisman-trophy-rankings-week-7-jeremiah-smith/92328625007/

  38. We have an electric freshman WR worthy of Heisman talk, and may be in the driver’s seat to win it based on Ohio St qb situation. After this mystery announcement by Legree’s father, I am expecting the most LODB event of them all: He will be the first student athlete to leave OSU mid-season and sit out the rest of the season as some duck troll proposed last week.

In past years it would be somewhat disgraceful, but the way things have changed so much with NIL, we probably should expect OSU to have the worst possible outcome when we finally see such a superstar come out of nowhere and dominate at Reser. It has gone form Quizz for 3 years to Legree for 7 games. Of course it doesn’t help that this is happening during the bye week, which makes me even more uneasy about it.

My Beavers goggles say he will announce that he is happy at OSU and the former Alum NFL players have set him and his family up for the future. But I know better by now to distrust those goggles in situations like this.
My only hope at this point is that Shepard is not like past coaches and will fight to keep him, and my gut instinct of an inevitable Charlie Brown/Peppermint Patty moment is unfounded.

I can’t come to grips with the thought that he may just stop playing mid-season, but the more I think about it, the less I like the situation. He has a lot of people whispering in his ear, and maybe that is all his father is saying, to leave him alone.

Another data point that college football has been ruined, even in the midst of the most enjoyable run for OSU football over the last 20 years.

Signing with Adidas(?) or some NIL news

        1

Apparently a commerrative signing day because he didn’t actually enjoy a signing day last year when he committed to OSU. I like the updates and it calms down my LODB angst. Hope he gets a big Adidas deal out of Ocho Cinco channels and OSU jumps to Adidas as well. Let’s continue to shift away from the old way of doing things.

        • Maybe “The Jesse Legree Story: Episode 1 – Decision Day” would have reduced anxieties.
          Hopefully just Heismann campaign stuff

    • 5
      1

His Dad said to a Beaver fan worried about him leaving that its nothing to be nervous about and nothing negative. For whatever that is worth though…

      • That’s what I read too but on another social platform. Like I previously commented, you have to take advantage when the spotlight is on and he is doing just that bc you canner that ESPN will never give him the spotlight.

      • It’s a great marketing idea for him and OSU because both will get much more exposure especially given not many games on Friday for CFB and his “announcement” will garner media attention as well as other potential recruits will more than likely tune into the Legree media blitz at least in oregon.

  39. Pac-12 power rankings

    1. Boise State (5-1, 2-0)

    Last week ranking: 1 (??)
    Week 7 result: Bye
What to know: Even without playing, Boise State’s case to make the College Football Playoff strengthens with Group of Six contender like Memphis losing. The Broncos now start the second half of the season against arguably the worst team in the conference.
    Up next: at Washington State

    2. Oregon State (5-2, 3-0)

    Last week ranking: 2 (??)
Week 7 result: Win vs. Washington State, 48-30
What to know: It’s now comical how Braden Atkinson and Jesse Legree are torching everyone in sight. In the battle of the former Pac-2 members, the quarterback threw for 347 yards and the freshman receiver became the first player to reach 1,000 receiving yards this season, leading the nation as the resurgence in Corvallis continues.
    Up next: Bye

    3. Texas State (3-3, 1-1)

    Last week ranking: 4 (??1)
Week 7 result: Win vs. Colorado State, 66-27
What to know: It was an emphatic way to get the first Pac-12 win in program history, running out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter en route to a 39-point victory. The Bobcats had a whopping 716 yards on offense, highlighted by Torrance Burgess Jr. running for a career-high 224 yards and four touchdowns. Brad Jackson also had a day, throwing for 213 yards and running for an additional 181 with four total touchdowns.
    Up next: vs. Utah State

    5. Fresno State (4-3, 1-2)

    Last week ranking: 3 (??2)
Week 7 result: Loss vs. San Diego State, 26-23
What to know: Things are starting to unravel for Fresno State with back-to-back losses, and it hurts especially when the Bulldogs were the favorite against San Diego State. While it had a chance at the end of the game, the defense couldn’t make key stops and the offense struggled staying on the field with a 4-for-13 mark on third down.

    • Thanks for posting that article. I saw it yesterday and it is quite accurate.

Keep winning and we can see how long the charade can continue. We know the Gameday bus will never come to Corvallis, and they are already avoiding the game in Boise. ESPN is like a guilty kid trying to avoid acknowledging what they have done. Only Boise St has been named as their chosen P6 option for the CFP.

It will require an avalanche of pressure from every other media outlet to force ESPN to cover OSU’s rise from the ashes of what ESPN tried to burn down.
Legree is the best WR, Heisman front-runner, and once his numbers begin to extend further and further beyond Smith’s they won’t be able to argue against Legree’s accomplishments.
No way they can try to influence voters to give Smith the Heisman in week 7.
Next year they will need to change the awards rules to only apply to P4 athletes in order to maintain the charade. ESPNSEC is working overtime this year to maintain the status quo. NIL has leveled the field dramatically and I think a lot of the blue-blood schools are not yet ready to accept what they have done and the unintended consequences they brought about.

I predict that none of the SEC teams will make the championship game again this year. ESPNSEC is going to be aced out by the new rules they have embraced.
“Hoisted by their own petard” rings a bell.

    • Thanks for posting. In all the hyperbole and manufactured drama, the fact that the Beavers are simply and genuinely fun is refreshing.

Watch the Eunuch of Eugene become increasingly defensive and entitled as the questions about his team performance and player conduct continue to pile up. There may be some ugly wins, but being rich and entitled isn’t always fun.

“We were investigating the pursuit, trying to figure out where these two cars are,” Crolly said. “They located one of the cars from the pursuit in a neighborhood in Springfield, so the officers respond over there and look and see, OK, here’s this car from the pursuit. And all of a sudden a bunch of cars start leaving the area, so the officers started doing traffic stops.”

So Stewart was driving one of the vehicles that left the area.

  42. So looking at the WBB schedule, I guess only 9 games will be televised and no games will be streamed live. I thought Varsity Network would be streaming games live but I guess it’s just the radio broadcast. Only 9 games on TV really sucks IMO and no streaming and the beavers should be very good this year. They did better last year in the WCC I’m terms of TV coverage…

  43. More Springfield police updates today.
Stewart had been driving with a suspended license when he got popped for the DUII Sunday morning.
Also, TE Jamari Johnson got cited for speeding 30+ mph over designated speed the same night.
They still havent tracked down the drivers of the 2 cars who fled and got away from the police. Johnson’s case number is the same as the car racing pursuit case.

We’ll learn more bit by bit, but currently Johnson is not listed as out this weekend while Stewart is.

  44. College football needs more fun. These 5 teams understood the assignment

“Maybe in the coming weeks, all fans need is a change of scenery and games with stakes outside of the playoffs. If nothing else, it might help to break up the monotony of blue-blood hate watching week in and week out.
    …
With that, here’s a look at the teams fans can watch if they want to get some old-school college football joy, and all of the imperfections that come with them.”

Wow, and he looks very good on YouTube highlights. So another weapon on the field with Legree and the rest of the speedy receivers corp. I guess it’s pick your poison if you play man coverage. If you choose zone coverage, Legree and this talented group of receivers will run wild on a secondary.

Whatcha going to do when Atkinson and Legree run wild on you! This is awesome and watching the ducks struggle is just icing on the cake.

Opportunity for those two to invite the pac12 and create a league with a much broader footprint with a larger tv audience…….

    • “Though it’s expected ESPN will retain control of the Playoff once it expands to 24, Fox has openly pushed for a 24-team CFP as a means to creating better non-conference inventory. “One of the big knocks against college football is the first three weeks. It’s actually hard to find great games,” Fox Sports CEO Eric Shanks said in April.
      …
Though competitors on the field, the SEC and Big Ten are partners in governorship over the College Football Playoff. Those two conferences, and only those two, hold veto power over the CFP’s format through its current contract (running through the 2031 season), and a scheduling alliance would serve an additional purpose beyond driving early-season viewership and ticket sales. If they were to play exclusively against one another, the SEC and Big Ten would box the ACC and Big 12 out of opportunities to play the 34 schools in the two conferences and, thus, make it more difficult for ACC and Big 12 teams to pick up bids to the 24-team event. “

      • Having grown up when it was the established NFL and the newcomer AFL being around, we could repeat the same in college football. Big Ten/SEC are the equivalent of the NFL while the Big XII and ACC become the AFL. Have each group crown a champion, then have the champions play a College Super Bowl. If you are old enough to remember Namath’s Jets beating the Colts in Super Bowl III, then you might live long enough to see the equivalent happen in a College Super Bowl.

        It’s a timeline worth pondering…

      • “One of the big knocks against college football is the first three weeks. It’s actually hard to find great games,” Fox Sports CEO Eric Shanks said

Finding good games is hard because the b1g and sec currently only schedule middle buttfuck state university of the blind. Also conveniently leaving out the scintillating in conference match-ups because their conferences are so bloated like purdue v illinois and rutgers vs maryland (or basically anyone in conference).

These assholes will change the narrative, no matter how hypocritical, to whatever new end game bs they think will make them another $, care for the actual product not so much.

  45. Has anybody subscribed to this media feed that’s carrying the “Decision Day” tomorrow?
I haven’t and don’t plan to. Not because i don’t want to support our athletes, but because I think it’s a waste of time and money and don’t want to encourage more of it

  46. App St wins it 34-31 in OT. Fun fact: App State QB Henry Hasselbeck is former seahawks and NFL journeyman QB Matt Hasselbeck’s son.

    • Maybe they’ll stop crowing about how much they deserve the cfp. More likely they’ll crow about how strong the sun belt is.

It’s Boise’s spot to lose and Beavs to take from them in a little over 3 weeks

      • I really think WSU is going to play Boise tougher than people expect. Maybe Boise will prove me wrong, but WSU seems to be the type of team built to contain Boise’s offense and their offense under Eshelman is much better than the 1st half of their season when they had the lowest rated QB play in the country.

  47. 1

I just had the most LOTB thought.

Didn’t somebody post in here that Mike Riley is on the CFP committee? And as part of his duties, he’s required to abstain from voting for OSU or recuse himself from any conversation around OSU if they’re ever in the discussion for a CFP spot?

So Beavs and New Mexico win out, and the sole G6 spot comes down to a committee selecting between the 2 teams. Riley isn’t allowed to vote for OSU, so he chooses UNM cause “they’re just a really nice bunch of guys”
UNM beats out OSU by 1 deciding Mike Riley vote.
Come on, we already know the script has been written and it’s just a matter of time.

  48. North Dakota State at New Mexico

    Time/TV: 10 p.m. ET, The CW.

Why watch: We step outside the US LBM Coaches Poll Top 25 briefly to spotlight this important clash in the Mountain West. The Lobos, whose only loss was a close defensive battle with Oklahoma, are among the upper tier of Group of Six playoff candidates. But first they must get past the Bison, who are already bowl eligible in their first season at the sport’s highest level. NDSU can score in unconventional ways as they did last week against Nevada with a return of a missed field goal and a defensive two-point scoop. Usually though it’s QB Nathan Hayes producing the points, with help from WRs Jackson Williams and Mekhi Collins. New Mexico does a lot of its damage on the ground, with QB Toa Fa’avae handing off most often to RB Scottre Humphrey.

Why it could disappoint: The Bison could be overmatched by the more seasoned FBS program, or the Lobos might still be feeling the effects of last week’s long trip to Hawaii. In truth, however, this probably won’t get away from either team.

  49. I have a question. Years ago, I think against Wisconsin there was some worry about a running QB and the Beavs had a spy. Every time they play a team with a running QB they get burned. They got burned bad by the WSU QB last week. Why don’t they have a spy to stop that threat? I know there are a lot of moving parts, but 138 yards by the QB?

    • I agree there is a trend, but it shouldn’t correlate specifically to the Beavers in a meaningful way. We’ve been through multiple head coaches and DCs and still get burned by running QBs.

        • We all know it…no surprise since the entire town is dependent on what occurs at the old dump site called Autzen. NikeU is a monumental pile of garbage built on a landfill full of a lot of trashy people without any scruples, who spew a lot of BS for their fans consumption.

          • Lanning is setting the stage for a disastrous culture if he doesn’t indefinitely suspend Stewart. I can’t wait to see the program go down in flames while the beavers rise out of the ashes!

      • He is toying with every SEC fan hoping they have him already signed for next year. I think it is a Heisman hype event that is better than a Joey billboard in Times Square.
Who knows, but his dad said it has nothing to do with transferring and OSU fans don’t need to be worried.

          • 1
            1

Resigned with the beavers….next up is atkinson. Shep is building a juggernaut in corvallis. Could the beavers be the next Indiana and sweethearts of college football…..I think they have an outside shot do we will see.

          • I feel like they kind of already are the sweethearts and fun story of the season so far. But being the next Indiana will take another 30-40 million and we do not have the main booster or booster support to make that happen. At least not right now.

  50. 1

I didn’t know until a couple weeks ago that Pat Casey is involved with the Brewers organization these days. So it’s him vs Drew Rasmussen (who will start Game 2) in the World Series. Go Beavs.

  51. The entire time I thought “Decision Day” was a big NIL deal for Legree. I am thrilled he signed a contract for 2027 but feeling like to have to announce that you won’t transfer in 2027 in week 7 of 2026 is everything that is wrong with college sports right now.
Then again, there was a LOT of chatter here, there, everywhere about him going to LSU, Texas Tech, Ohio State etc. next so it makes sense that he ended that so he can focus on being an 18 year old college student and premier football player at Oregon State. I guarantee he talked to all the coaching staff first and got assurance they will be here also before he signed. All great news!

    • 10

On the plus side, I could see it helping recruiting. Seems like a sign that Shepherd plans to be around more than 1 year as well.
Of course anything can change, but pretty amazing we’re getting this type of long term commitment to our program and I’ll take it.

      • 14

Im gonna go out on a limb and say Shep gets a contract extension after year 1 that includes a bump in pay and bump in salary pool for his assistants.

Not really a stretch, I know

      • 12

        From the ESPN article:

“Legree acknowledged that part of the reason for announcing now, during Oregon State’s bye week, was to help attract more talent to Corvallis.

“Coach Shephard, coach [Mitch] Dahlen and coach [Mike MacIntyre] are going to turn us into a national powerhouse,” Legree told ESPN about the Beavers’ head coach and coordinators.”

        Pinch me.

        • This kinds of quotes convince me that behind the scenes are even better than what we’re seeing publicly

They’re is an argument that OSU becoming a big fish in a small pond could become a bigger program both in Oregon and nationally vs what’s happening down south where they’re discovering there’s always a bigger fish.

Still believe Oregon slowly falls into the “battling for the Big Ten’s 5th bid each year” which will never be as compelling as dominating a conference like OSU with proper resources should do.

Shepherd also doesn’t seem like he’s looking at his next move, not saying he never leaves but given his history he might understand what he has and ride it out for 5 years or so like Chris Peterson did.

Ultimately it’s just fun for as long as it lasts and I’m gonna enjoy it.

          • Shep is raising a young family and doing it in a safe community with low crime, affordable cost of living at his salary and the beauty of Oregon with proximity to the mountains, ocean and desert makes it an attractive location. I think he’s here for at least 4-5 years and then who knows. One thing is for certain, it’s definitely going to be fun and entertaining while he’s here and he’s got some big time alums already on board and that’s huge.

  52. 4
    2

Good news out of Legree but unfortunately in this current era I am going to have to see him practicing in Corvallis next August before I believe it.

Remember Martinez? He was claiming that he was going to stay at OSU as late as March of 2024 and then announced he was leaving in April of 2024.

    • Lol, as he stated, Coach Shep and his staff are building a national powerhouse at OSU. More to follow Legree’s lead and commitment to the only school that gave him a shot.

      • I hear you, want it to be true as well but as always, money talks. You can’t do much to stop it if someone gives him an offer he can’t refuse.

Him declaring his “commitment” here is not legally binding. It’s not a contract.

We have to assume if he continues with this same production the rest of the year, he’ll be getting even more offers and higher amounts. Will be very hard for him to turn down.

          • Exactly, as coach Shep is invested in these kids personally and professionally. The fact that he stated the coach is building a national power in Corvallis and he wants to attract other players to the program tells me all I need to know about Legree’s commitment to Coach Shep and OSU.

  53. Jesse Legree re-signs with Oregon State. Nation’s biggest steal stays loyal to Beavers

“The unusual timing of the announcement — pledging his support to a program where he already plays barely midway through his first season there — came with a purpose. In an interview with CBS Sports after re-signing with the Beavers, Legree said he did so “to start the growth at Oregon State” and to “hopefully bring in more people, more recruits and even more transfers to help us out.”

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/pac12/2026/10/23/jesse-legree-oregon-state-football-return-2027-28-resign-ncaa-leading-wr/92400473007/

  54. Like I posted earlier this week, it was a great idea for Legree and for OSU too that he made his announcement today. It’s all over social media and ESPN and don’t think for a second that prospects in HS and those going into the portal in the off season weren’t paying attention. This was aedia marketing bonanza for Legree, Coach Shep and Beaver Nation.

Brings to mind when following the Fiesta Bowl season we were pre-season ranked #1 by SI. Went to play Fresno on the road to start the season and got beat by cheap shots and felons in the crowd throwing shit at our players. Hope it is not fore shadowing. Go Beavs 52-21

      • 2
        1

We shall see but a bye week to cleanup a lot of mistakes against WSU. The beavers will come out highly motivated to prove they’re better than what they showed in the WSU game.

          • Yep, but which team has the hot hand at QB? Which team is better coached? Which team has more explosive playmakers like Legree, Newberry, et al? The only major FSU has is homefield and that’s big but OSU has already proven they can play against a p4 team on the road and be very competitive.

If OSU brings their A game, they should win by 14 or more points. If they don’t, it could be a close game. .I don’t think FSU has the horses to beat Oregon State but we will find out next weekend. Meanwhile, the beavers add another offensive weapon on Adonis McDaniel, Atkinson’s favorite WR target at Mercer and their leading WR at Mercer and been cleared to play for the Beavers. His YouTube video was pretty interesting too.

          • Halloween night. Road game. Fresno. Pac 12 after dark.

            You could be right…….

Id prefer I’m wrong. Im not saying Beavs will lose. Im saying be wary. Sports are weird sometimes and that place has been a house of horrors.

    • Media marketing bonanza for the team too.
On a bye week where they won’t be talked about much otherwise, might as well keep our Heismann candidate’s name visible duing that time

      • 1
        1

Exactly and I think he just improved his chances of making an H-man appearance when they announce the winner provided the Beavs keep winning and his production continues.

  55. Surprise, 2 more duck WRs are ruled out for tomorrows game. So 4 of their top 5 receivers are out.
Plus they don’t have a QB.
Illinois could win tomorrow if they score twice

  56. 1
    3

Honestly, if the Beavs braintrust thought they could only re-sign one, Legree is the better choice, if Atkinson leaves I imagine they’ll have a boatload of QBs wanting a chance to throw to him to boost their NFL prospects.
It also makes me think Shepherd will be here next year. Whatever a team offers him to jump after this year, will double next year. Plus, as a first-time HC, I’m sure there are things he still feels he can “learn” before making the jump to a bigger program.

    • Just remember the whole context is fucked and the networks don’t want OSU to be relevant and succeed.

Enjoy it, remember no non-con games from ’28 on are likely to include “P4” teams. BSU is the top end of future competition during the season.

But, this is a fun iteration of the Beavers, and it’s great to see Legree timing his announcement to help the program.

      • 2
        1

I’m not convinced no networks want OSU with a competent athletic department.

With an incompetent one they still got a National desk with USA and CW.

  57. I just realized that the Pat Murphy that manages the Brewers is the same Pat Murphy from the ASU days. That certainly explains the Pat Casey connection. I clearly don’t follow MLB, except when the playoffs/WS begins.

  58. Reading comments from some duck fans on another site, they got their panties in a bunch now that the beavers are having some legit success and have overshadowed the ducks on the national scene. Lol

    • Probably doesn’t help that they have 420 receivers suspended, arrested, injured or ahem otherwise indisposed while our best receiver said he is all in at OSU. Nice contrast for the bye week.

You know how much joy to hear
Them gnashing their teeth if the Beavs can make the CFP this year.

      • Too bad Nebraska effed up in the 4th quarter for the 500th time and couldn’t put the Quack season to bed. There are still a couple of ESPN whores pimping the “win out” theory and still make the playoffs.

    • Broncos in a OT win…they need a long, hard fought game, show as much as their playbook as possible, and a win so that if/when the Beavers beat them November 14 they maintain a Top 25 ranking.

      • Yeah. We need BSU to keep winning to maximize the importance of the game in Boise 3 weeks from now.

Kirby Moore runs a similar downfield offense as OSU. Same roots with DeBoer staff at Fresno State.
And now that he has a decent qb in place, WSU will give us an idea of go to approach the BSU defense.
We know Bray will sellout to stop the run and force Madden to throw to win. Madden will get a few big runs though.
I expect WSU to score and make it very interesting. Probably will come down to a turnover by Eschelman for a BSU win.

        • I think the Broncos need to win big to help OSU. Need them as high ranked as possible when we play them and ultimately beat them in Boise. They would most likely drop in the polls with a close or OT win. Beavers SOS is taking a huge hit with Texas Tech getting ran off the field by Cincy and Utah should beat Houston today.

    • I think it is a bit of homer article but compared to the last couple of years, I agree with most of it. Based on an eye test, no way I give RBs and A-.

  59. Ducks still think they’re in the hunt after multiple upsets last weekend. Myopic and delusional duck fans don’t realize the ducks will have at least one more loss and maybe two. They’re in the hunt alright but that’s the hunt for mediocrity!

  60. It looks like Miami is forcing the ball to Toney to try and make his wr stats look better.

    15 catches and 189 yards

Could it be a response to Legrees presser yesterday and added attention for him nationally?

Other guys have 2 or 3 catches. Pretty silly Cristobal shenanigans.

      • 1
        2

Resume doesn’t matter too much anymore. If they win out, they will no doubt be the G6 rep. Because that would include 2 wins against Boise with one of them on the road. New Mexico and NDSU are the other 2 in the mix and they are playing each other today. Those were the 4 teams ESPN mentioned because they are in ESPN’s SP+ top 40 whatever the flying fart that means.

    • Cincy is probably my second favorite college team. Lived there as a kid for a while and have lots of relatives in the area. Sort of bittersweet to see them rise up through the non- Power ranks and then see the reverse unfortunately happen to the Beavs.

  61. Ducks on the verge of losing to illinois down 20-10 if the TD catch stands with extra point to come. Fr QB making first start. TD upheld 21-10 2:30 left. Lmao

    • Great day to be a Beaver.

I’m sure we will hear from Lanning how much the media created distractions going into this game. His poor ducks couldn’t focus because of unfair treatment by Springfield PD and Portland media.

Lanning will be canned once they lose 2 more games. Lol

    • And the Big 10 announcers are still pimping Oregon to the playoffs if they win out. Good Lord, give it a rest! The Quacks are an underachieving, irrelevant team this year.

  62. 3
    3

Duck fans be like, “we’re still in the hunt.”. It is funny how those faux beaver fans trolling AB have suddenly gone silent and that tells me as I suspected, they are dick fans. Beavers have made the statement they are the best team in Oregon and it’s not even close!

  63. 3
    2

Dick fans spewing crap about Legree and his announcement yesterday that he’ll be transferring along with Atkinson and the coaching staff, but the transfer will happen in Eugene and their run has ended. Lanning is all hype and smoke and mirrors. Lol

  64. Even a duck based site said a few weeks back Lanning wasn’t getting done with a $50M roster….and Lanning’s $10M+/year….the cost per win is pretty damn high at UO.

No cigars for Lanning in the near future. Enjoy the trip home…

  65. Read on a duck mb……

The only coaches id take over Lanning are Nick Saban, Urban Meyer and Chris Peterson.

Yes, they really think Lanning is an elite coach.

Watch your balls. They could fall off from laughing too hard

  66. “Same old Oregon. All that money, all that talent, no national championship.”

    Duck hunting season has commenced.

In one of the most stunning results of the 2026 season, preseason national championship favorite Oregon can all but kiss its College Football Playoff hopes goodbye.

Illinois supplied the crushing blow, stunning the Ducks 21-10 for its first win over Oregon since 1970.

After back-to-back postseason disappointments, this was supposed to be the Oregon team that finally broke through and captured the program’s elusive first national championship.

Instead, the Ducks’ season has unraveled before Halloween.
    …
Knight has patiently waited for decades of investment in his beloved program to produce the ultimate payoff. He’ll have to keep waiting.
    …
And now the pressure in Eugene only intensifies.

By 2027, Oregon could be approaching a tipping point. The excuses are running thin. Lanning doesn’t merely need a bounce-back season. He needs to prove this program can turn all its money, talent, facilities and ambition into something more tangible than hype and postseason disappointment.”

An expanded playoff gives Oregon more margin for error, but simply making the field can no longer be the standard.”

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2026/10/24/oregon-ducks-football-disappointment-dan-lanning-illinois-loss/92422504007/

    • What’s crazy is that a play here and a play there, and the Quacks could be 2-5. Boise and Nebraska were both “loseable” games.

    • That cover by Boise State earlier in the year isn’t looking as good for the Broncos, and UCLA still doesn’t impress me that much. But it was fun listening to the Ducks postgame show. I think Duck fans might now hate the team more than Beaver fans do. And what are they going to do, look forward to hoops season?

Not to mention how many off-field incidents involving Duck players are now coming to light on a weekly basis, None of those things see the light of day if they’re undefeated, they’d be buried until the off-season.

  67. “Cincinnati put up 255 rushing yards against Texas Tech’s defense, which entered the day with the No. 1 rushing defense in the Big 12 at 88.0 yards per game. Cole Tabb was responsible for 173 of the Bearcats yards on the ground.”

  68. 1
    1

I’m beginning the believe the Beavs will actually steamroll the rest of the schedule.
Fresno has an issues and Boise can’t score on WSU. Neither team will be able to score with OSU.
Keep everyone healthy, don’t turn the ball
Over and continue to do what has been working and Beavs should be ok.

I am concerned about cheap shots form Fresno on Atkinson and Legree honestly. Hopefully there is some better sportsmanship than the Pat Hill thuggery of days gone by.

  69. “Instead, the “Problem Kid” is standing 10 toes down in Corvallis. It is refreshing given the number of people who have, justifiably, left OSU over the last three years. But the freshman’s commitment serves as more than a morale boost for the Beavs and their beleaguered fan base.

It’s a symbol of the program’s new trajectory.

I am not being hyperbolic when I say that Second-Year Legree may be the biggest recruit the Beavers have ever landed.

A three-star receiver with few offers out of high school has in seven games as a Beaver morphed into a five-star talent, a potential All-American and an out-of-nowhere Heisman Trophy candidate.
    …
His buy-in will help sell the program to recruits and stabilize the school as it settles comfortably into the new Pac-12. I wouldn’t be surprised if quarterback Braden Atkinson was the next one to re-up.

Nobody believes anybody in college sports anymore. And we can’t be certain that Legree will actually return to OSU next year until he takes the field in 2027. All contracts have buyouts, and you can be certain there are brokers in the sport who will try to pressure test Legree’s commitment.

If Shephard were to leave OSU, Legree would be free to leave. And the Beavers are certainly mindful of that.

But Legree’s early decision shows a remarkable level of trust in OSU and you have to assume that includes a belief that Shephard will stick around to help realize the vision.

The Beavers have executed an unimaginable culture reset and the world of college athletics is taking notice. Legree is merely the tangible proof of that.”

    https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2026/10/jesse-legrees-return-to-oregon-state-more-than-a-morale-boost-for-beleaguered-beaver-fans-bill-oram.html

    • I doubt it. They have no WRs to run his offense.

Seriously, I would think UO would think an OSU coach beneath them. I think Dahlen stays even though they payday he will deserve takes a little longer to arrive. They have a good thing going and it could get better. I hope they’re able to strengthen both lines with all the positive attention they’re getting.

OSU has a decent schedule next year, opening at BYU, hosting PSU and New Mexico, then going to Ole Miss. BSU, CSU, Fresno, and WSU will be at home.

I’m betting Ole Miss buys out of its return trip to Corvallis in 2030.

        • 2
          1

I think this talk of ND having a weak schedule needs to die, I mean with 423 team conferences the P4 schedules are as weak or weaker than an Independent schedule.

Thats the real trick the Big Ten and SEC played on people, convincing people that giant conferences don’t create weak schedules.

          • 100% correct.
It is easier for the powers that be to set up a couple of tough games but drop in weaker matchups for the desired brands to succeed.
A team like Auburn targets and easy schedule and they also get hosed on their home field by SEC refs every year when they play Alabama or Georgia or LSU.

I stated one team that has a weaker schedule than usc. I did not say the sec and others don’t create weak schedules as an advantage. Two things can be true bud.

    • They are still in the cfp hunt though right?? Gotta love preseason rankings. When will they learn Riley isn’t going to have a breakout year. Isn’t he an offensive guru and they score 7 points. Another reason coaching salaries and buyouts are ludicrous.

  70. CAL lost handily at SMU. Next week they apparently play at NC State, then go to Virginia the week after that.

3-5 and loving life in the ACC.

    • Yeah, only an exhibition, but when was the last time Oregon State beat an ACC team? Also, appears the team shoots and rebounds better than the Tinkle teams.

  71. Baylor also shit canned Dave Aranda this morning. Thats three P4 openings by week 8 (Maryland and NC State).

I guess 4-3 and 2-2 in the Big 12 gets you fired when you have a 20 million dollar budget.

  72. They sound like (committed) student-athletes(?):

“In the changing college sports landscape, the concept of staying at one school for an entire career has become a rare exception rather than the expectation.

At Oregon State, Josiah Lake and Kennedie Shulder each embody that sense of stability as the only four-year players on the OSU men’s and women’s basketball teams this season.”
    …
Lake, a former walk-on at OSU who won two Class 6A high school championships at Tualatin, mentioned that he and Shuler have a “good relationship and connection” that goes back to high school.

“We’re both about the same thing,” he said. “We’re both about Oregon State and about playing for a place that you really care about.”

Lake said the pair have shared conversations about their common journey.

“We’ve reached out to each other just to pick each other’s brains,” he explained. “It’s tough sometimes because you don’t know who to talk to because no one’s really in your position. And just for us to kind of be on the same path, it’s really cool.”

  73. Lanning enjoying a swisher sweet today…

“In this season of failures and fizzles, frauds and faceplants, one team still found a way to stand out for its futility.

    Look out below!

Here comes Dan Lanning with a bellyflop off the high dive.

    Splash!

Oregon is college football’s biggest flop of all.
    …
While we were focused on Arch Manning and Texas losing twice in a row with a roster of blue-chippers bought by a war chest, Oregon stormed in and said, Hold my beer. We’ll show you what a real waste of money looks like.

Used to be, Lanning just lost the big games. Now, Oregon doesn’t have any big games left, because its season has slipped into irrelevance.”

When do the blue bloods follow the rules?

Here’s my biggest fear. Maryland calls and Shep listens. Takes Legree and Atkinson home with him.

          • 7
            1

Maryland didn’t even recruit Legree. No way he isn’t bitter about that. Shephard isn’t leaving after a season and Dahlen grew up here and loves OSU. They aren’t going anyplace next season. Just shut up about it. Enjoy this season and everyone can leave their doomsday bunkers.

          • I know he is from there. I watched his announcement on Friday which he did his high school gym. If you aren’t even recruited by your local school its a gut punch. Sure he might if the entire coaching staff goes but thats not happening. If Shephard leaves in a few years it will be to a big blue blood program. Not Maryland.

      • What’s Shep’s attraction to Maryland area though?
Or Dahlen. Gotta think OSU will find a way to match any offer no matter how difficult. Out boosters have to be motivated by what they see

The Beavs need to play the rest of the season better than they did the first half. The Beavs schedule is back loaded. Fresno, Boise, Texas St, and potentially road matchup in the snow with WSU are tougher games than any of the wins we’ve had so far. The Beavs been playing with house money all season. Now they’re about to crack the top 25, face the meat of the conference schedule and Legree is listed in the top 5 of most heisman trophy forecasts. Let’s see how Shep does keeping things together the next 6 weeks before we worry about him getting poached.

    • Technically he is under contract now so schools cannot directly contact him or his agent. They aren’t supposed anyway unless your name is entered into the portal as it’s considered tampering. But we all know how that goes. Its not really enforced by the NCAA. More so now that he has signed a contract though. But its typical for an assistant coaches agents brother-in-laws sister makes a call to the players agent and says if he want to come to (list school here) we have an undisclosed amount of money and a car for you.

  74. Maybe Lanning can get Lincoln Riley as his OC? Two young, “brilliant” grifters!

“Lincoln Riley has reached the end of his leash.

No more losing. No more excuses. If this continues, his time in Los Angeles should be over.

No. 15 Southern California lost another Big Ten road game it had no business losing, getting pushed around by a Wisconsin team that was jumping around and around the Trojans in a 24-7 rout.

    Here we go again.

It’s become an annual tradition for USC to lose Big Ten road games it should win. The Trojans are now 4-9 when playing in the Central or Eastern time zones. But for as damaging as those defeats have been, this one might be the most embarrassing yet.”

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2026/10/24/lincoln-riley-hot-seat-usc-football-wisconsin-loss/92426219007/

  75. Was killing the PAC12 worth it for USC and UW?
Both are bottom feeders in the Big10 football and nearly non competitive in most other sports.
Once the mystique is gone for Oregon, they will not have a recruiting advantage since either schools can now buy rosters too.
UCLA may be good this year and their new coach will probably go back east soon enough since UCLA administration has never been interested in football anyway.
Utah has made another good run and probably gets in the CFP this year.
ASU had a one year run then lost all of their players to transfer portal. ASU doesn’t have enough financial backing to stay competitive long term in the Big12.
UofA is only good until Fifita graduates then they will be Big12 bottom feeders.
Colorado is already established as a bottom feeder in the Big12 and Sanders is a horrible coach, not a program builder.
Stanford is terrible and silly to be in the ACC.
Cal is non competitive and has no way to stay afloat in the awful ACC. No big money backers but a lot of costs.
WSU lost a lot of guys when Dickert left, still trying to recover.
OSU is in a rise from the ashes and has a shot at the CFP.

Of all the former PAC12 teams, which situation is preferable?
Oregon, ASU, are the only teams who have made the CFP.
UCLA, Utah, Oregon St all might be in this year.

    • Big fish, small pond can definitely make you a nationally relevant program. The problem is they keep trying to drain the ponds which puts you in a bind.

OSU may have found their Chris Peterson, from there it’s about ensuring access.

  76. It couldn’t happen to a more deserving group of back stabbing programs and now they are getting what they deserve. SUCK IT BOYZ!

  77. 1
    2

Does anyone know what Sheps buyout is? Hopefully it’s fairly substantial. That hopefully is a priority when signing coaches so when they do well and bail they at least have some help monetarily in signing the next coach.

  78. Here’s what’s in Lannings office. The epitome of douchiness….

“An electronic ticker in his office displays ex-Ducks earnings in the NFL”

Im no fan of CK, but if he can make this happening? Respect.

“If Chip beats Oregon at Autzen,” a source close to the program said, “Phil will be in the fetal position for days.”

    https://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/2026/10/does-dan-lanning-have-the-answers-to-fix-what-is-broken-with-oregon-football-bill-oram.html

  79. Hadn’t seen it posted here…..Sire Gaines for Boise State was seen in a walking boot and did not finish the game vs WSU Saturday. His status moving forward is unknown.

Gaines is part of that 2 headed monster Boise rushing attack

    • It is enjoyable to read national pundits openly mocking and ridiculing NikeU. Once the mystique and shine is gone they will be cast aside. And when they lose the advantage of mass propaganda by these national pundits clowns, then NikeU will be another afterthought from the far regions of the country. NikeU can’t maintain its appeal as a shoe company and NikeU is going to flame out as a brand too. That national championship they have so desired is further away than they want to believe.
Lanning still has a hold over the fan base as their great leader but he is being exposed as a fraud to the rest of the country and I think the recruiting will be more difficult for them in the next few years.
It will be interesting to watch how NikeU responds to the dismissal and mockery of national media.

      • And if they’re overpaid players start giving up (maybe they have already) and start transferring ASAP.

People say Lanning was given the keys to a Ferrari. I’d say a new corvette is more appropriate. Garish, ostentatious, loud…UO has always acted like “new money,” and their spending just calls out their insecurities for all to see. I think the track facility is very nice, the rest of it all, and the uniforms, blows.

When UO joined the B10 and Lanning was asked at their media days about Oregon he said “We’re different!” An OLive writer said “you gotta hand it to Coach Lanning, he gets branding.” Lannning said nothing, didn’t back it up, and typically OLived gushed over a UO football coach sound bite. He obviously needs to focus on coaching and hiring instead.

I was through Eugene yesterday, silly UO flags up that say “Unstoppable.” They stop themselves just fine…

  80. “Was killing the PAC12 worth it for USC and UW?”

OhioBeav’s quick breakdown of summary points above would make for a great article series. How the PAC abandoners are doing in all sports, travel implications…how far away they are from full shares, etc.

Reading about 3-5 CAL losing at SMU recently, then next having to go to NC, then Virginia after that, and come home to likely empty stadiums made me laugh.

    • Since the realignment, OSU baseball has gone to Omaha, & WBB made a Sweet 16 run. It would be insane if football could win a conference championship and CFP, and perhaps MBB makes the NCAA tourney this year.
The Beavs are at an admirable place and have weathered the storm incredibly well. I admit I have been pretty down about where the Beavs were after the death of the conference.

I like the juxtaposition of Beavs rising from the ashes, while the Ducks fall from grace and are exposed as the frauds that we all knew they were.

I always think about the line from Count of Monte Christo when it comes to Ducks perspective and jealousy. Edmond’s friend who betrayed him, sneered and said early in the story “I shouldn’t want to be you!”

The Duck trolls can’t help it when Beavs are successful in anything because they are a delusional self-centered, entitled fanbase that now thinks they have always been like Alabama and Texas as a brand. Ducks fans don’t like to be reminded that their momentary glory was all purchased by Nike, including favorable media attention, recruits, rules bent for their benefit, NCAA violations without real penalties and the list continues. But now the veil is lifted and the world sees the ducks as the little, petty, greedy, undisciplined, entitled and arrogant mercenaries rather than the media darling creation they have been portrayed as for 20 years.

      • we will know the OSU athletics department revival has been fully implemented when Angry starts posting here again. Not unreasonably, he thought all was lost. Most did. I ask him: did you see the possibilities that are now self evident? I see glimmers of a future with OSU as a big fish in a small pond that will be looked upon as the golden age of sports in Corvallis.

        • 3
          1

Well, the changes in approach to the fans, the purposeful nature of the new AD to actually develop a winning mindset throughout all sports and Beavernation is already a dramatic shift from moral victories, neat deals, and just happy to be here of the past.

It almost seems like Shep, his staff and the new AD have all gone back through the archives of this blog to get pointers on how to approach things differently. We have given them the cheat code to win at OSU, and bring back the fans. It is time to congratulate Angry for the platform’s greatest accomplishment, actual changes at OSU sports.

Congrats Angry, you did it. Are you even watching the change occur? In this new era, the Beavs can change national perspectives on a weekly basis.

          • I suspect Angry would point out the decreased competition level, the fact that the Beavs have beat no one meaningful, and the outstanding risk that OSU becomes a farm system for other programs.

      • “Born on 3rd base and think they hit a triple”

90% of their fan base is even worse

You should go look for the video on X of the duck fans berating the coaching staff coming out of an elevator headed back to the field for the 3rd quarter from the corn game.

      • Wild when yucks tout being a blue blood as if they have decades of accolades to lean on when their modest success didn’t start until Phil started pouring cash into their athletics like a dying man looking for one last hoorah… and they still have ZERO ‘chips’ to show for it. How are you a blue blood without a freakin trophy?

Their fans deserve every bit of the humiliation that 2026 has brought them.

        • Well, they do have all those track titles, one golf title and and NCAA basketball title when they had a jump ball after every made field goal. All quite funny and hysterical when you get into a back and forth with those myopic turds. The only sport they really have anything going for them is baseball and softball…

          • That “NCAA” tournament in 1939 wasn’t sanctioned by the NCAA. It was a coach-owned tourney those teams attended, because they were left out of the NIT.

It went bankrupt and was bought by the NCAA for peanuts, mostly to retain naming rights. The first sanctioned “NCAA Tournament” was in 1940.

  81. I’ve been kinda shocked at the Oregon fanbase’s anger and self-entitlement now that they are having a down year. They sound like a kid who has been handed everything all his life and then throws a tantrum the first time he doesn’t get what he wants. They seem to have forgotten that their success wasn’t earned or worked for – it was just handed to them as a byproduct of an old billionaire trying to promote his company. The only thing they have ever had to do is go to Autzen and enjoy the game. Babies.

    • 100% accurate take. Well done.

It is forbidden to point out the truth that they never earned it. They used to mock OSU for not having our own Phil Knight. Now they get to return to irrelevance, once Knight ends the gravy train out of frustration. NIL is funny, and immediately raised the stakes for NikeU to win now, because the price tag keeps increasing in that business model of just trying to buy the title.

        • Only thing they can sell are Air Force1’s and even that is starting to dry up because of over saturation and a $115 price tag for a shoe that came out in 1982. Was at the mall yesterday and the amount of Jordan’s, Kobe’s and Air Max’s sitting on the shelves was shocking. Walking around, noticed that it was mainly grandpas and mid-40ish moms wearing them now. But I guess that what you get for not innovating anything worthwhile in the past 20+ years.

          • The younger generation is into Adidas. They say Nike is for old people.

I don’t see it getting better for Nike

*Haven’t owned a pair of Nike’s in over 20 years and wont buy their shit products again as long as I roam this shitty world

          • Not only that, but Nike products suck. I bought a pair of golf shoes about 10 years ago, wore them for one round of golf and it was like waking in a cement sole. I donated them right after you Goodwill. I prefer Under Armour for athletic wear but stopped by Nike after the golf shoe experience and child sweat shops in the China syndrome. They have had plenty of legal issues too. Now that the NBA is unwatchable and there is no longer the MJ gravy train era, their days are numbered just like the ducks.

        I mean … sort of.

The Knight family owns about 300 million shares of Nike. At $35 a share that’s still a whole lot of money. Knight just gave the university a billion dollars (to start and Engineering program) and a few years back gave them $500M (to boost their lagging research arm). That’s just what has been announced, not all the other NIL stuff. Its been widely reported Knight plans to set up some sort of a fund to support UO long after he passes. UO wont be in want of money anytime soon. That said, seeing them lose with a $40M roster is entertaining but they will reload and make another go of it.

  82. Can someone explain how the PAC12 network adds value? Is it post production highlights? Some of the networks televising PAC games aren’t even using high definition. I wrongly assumed PAC network facilities could be used to contribute to quality live telecasts? Or is that an infrequent occurrence?

    • From what I read after the lawsuit was settled, the PAC 12 network and all of its technology and infrastructure would be used alto generate revenue for the conference by contracting out its services to conference(s) that did not possess the technology to broadcast their own conference games. I don’t know if that’s been happening or not, but I can’t imagine they’re just sitting on that resource letting it sit idle. It was supposed to be a value add for the new conference and its members.

    • The reason you haven’t heard much about it is that it was a bare-bones operation until the Pac 12 was once again a conference. And they concentrated on hiring operations personnel to be up and running once the season started. They have been doing work for Cal and the ACC, as well as many other functions for several other producers of live events (not just sports). But that has been just to keep them in the black for the last couple years.
      https://pac-12.com/news/2026/10/20/general-pac-12-and-elevate-advance-new-commercial-enterprise-with-appointment-of-the-leagues-first-ever-chief-commercial-growth-officer.aspx
Once the operations side was shored up, you can see the financial/marketing/promotion side has been actively increasing.

The first year or two may not be amazing numbers, but the growth potential is immense. It could be a billion dollar business in short order. For scale, it was costing about $80M a year in operating expenses to run the Pac 12 Network. That was with the HQ being in the heart of San Fran. It was not creating content on Mondays, Wednesdays, and during the summer. Turning it into a for-profit standalone with the persistent growth schedule will cost slightly more. But once that level of revenue is reached, the rest is gravy that gets returned to the schools who own it.

Also, it being a private company means they can target that growth to a certain level, then sustain consistent revenues over time. It is meant to be returning dividends to its owners, not shareholders.

      • Good information and Gould, OSU and WSU had the foresight to see the short and long term value of that resource and the attorneys did a great job of protecting in the lawsuit.

  83. Highlights from coach Shep and the BYE provided by The Big O and as expected, Adonis McDaniel will make his debut for the Beavs. As noted late last week, he was Atkinson’s favorite WR target at Mercer and led Mercer in receiving. Current line is beavers a 6.5 favorite.

    JaMARCUS SHEPHARD
As for who starts at right tackle this week, it will begin with who practices best. Josiah Timoteo and Teko Shoats are both healthier now than they have been in a few weeks and Jacob Anderson has done well at left tackle.

Been focusing on eliminating drops at receiver and third down conversions on offense. Defensively limiting QB runs was emphasized.
Regarding the expanded College Football Playoff: wants it to be more than the “rich getting richer.”

Expects receiver Adonis McDaniel to be available this weekend.
Cornerback TJ Crandall is cleared to practice and did on Sunday.

Believes there will be “some effect” on players from Jesse Legree’s decision to announce his return next season. Still emphasizes need to appreciate the here and now.

“We have a very talented and devoted group of seniors” who are a big part of this year’s team. “Sometimes we get caught up in the future … and we forget to enjoy what we have right here, right now.”

“It’s fun to see our conference be highlighted in a real way so far this year.” Building “something new” this year.

  84. I didn’t see anything here about Legree and his brother signing on with Klutch this morning. It was on his Instagram stories earlier.

      • Per Google’s AI Overview
Klutch most commonly refers to several distinct brands, agencies, and products across sports, tools, cannabis, fashion, and technology:
KLUTCH Sports Group: A major American sports agency founded in 2012 by Rich Paul that represents high-profile athletes in the NBA, NFL, MLB, and WNBA.

Klutch Athletics: An athlete-first sportswear and training brand founded by Rich Paul in partnership with New Balance.
Klutch Tools: An in-house brand of hand tools, air compressors, and workshop equipment sold by Northern Tool + Equipment.

Klutch Cannabis: An Ohio-based cannabis cultivator, extractor, and dispensary operator.

  85. How the mighty ducks have gone into a free fall as their game this weekend can only be viewed on the Peacock streaming service. That’s the equivalent of a former high profile rock band playing at your local county fair and still rocking at 80 years old. The ducks are more of a freak show type of attraction now. Get your peanuts and popcorn as the circus is 5 days out. The star attraction will be the former circus clown Chip Kelly.

    • Apparently yucks have found their new oc in house, “Oregon coach Dan Lanning announces that analyst Jay Johnson will be the new play caller for Oregon. He’s a veteran offensive coordinator with multiple stops as a play caller.” Yes the same coach fired mid season as oc at Wyoming

  86. From the “An Office at the Landfill is Better than Anywhere Else” category:

Duck fan peak delusion candidates for their new OC-
Chip Kelly (OC @ NW)/ one version also includes Neuheisel and Chiles coming too
    Kliff Kingsbury (Washington Commanders OC)
    Dana Holgerson- (Nebraska OC)
Mike McDaniel (OC @ LA CHargers)
Kirby Moore ( not aware he is now at WSU)
    Buster Falknor (OC @ Florida)
    Mike Norvell. (HC at JMU)
    Jonathon Smith- (Unempl;oyed
Jerry Neuheisel (QB coach @ NW)
    Rob Ezell- (WF OC)
    Aaron Roderick- (BYU OC)
    Lincoln Riley- (USC HC)
Jeff Lebby- (HC Miss St) and Kamario Taylor transferring to NIkeU
Landon Keupple- (OC @ Texas St)
    Mitch Dahlen
    Brian Daboll- (Tenn Titans OC)
    Kendall Briles- (South Carolina OC)
    Garrett Riley- (Mizzoo QB coach)
    Kade Bell- (OC @ Pitt)
    Brendan Marion-(Colorado OC)
    Charlie Wiess JR- (LSU OC)
    Kevin Decker- (Memphis OC)
    Charlie Decker- (HC Texas St)

Pretty entertaining stuff. They just throw out names and figure $2 million for OC means they can get anyone. But they can’t consider the possibility that many may not want anything to do with NikeU.

    • Said it back then, Moore never should have came back to school. He was guaranteed to be a top 2 pick in last year’s draft. You just cannot pass that up. Look, Zach Wilson who is a terrible QB but was the number 2 pick in the 2021 draft, has made $42.6M thru his age 27 season this year. He will stilll keep getting chances because someone will think that because he was the number 2 overall pick, they can fix him to be a starting QB in The League. Now, Moore is looking more and more like a second round pick. QBs do get drafted much earlier than they should, but Moore will certainly have health questions of him as well as questions about his decision making against better competition (looked totally overwhelmed against Indiana last year), questions about his dedication since he won’t play again this year despite being medically cleared, and having a number of QBs that has looked a lot better than him in Chambliss, Mensah, Mestemaker, Carr, etc. so far this year. That’s a ridiculous amount of money to lose just because someone offered a some cash and some Nikes. To me, the biggest thing Moore is someone responsible to help him make some better decisions.

    • I can’t imagine he’d want to come back from concussion only to have to learn a new offensive scheme for only 4 or 5 games from some coach he’s never worked with before.
Do they even have an OC yet? They’re goung to get embarrased by Chip and Northwestern this week

      • Won’t be an entirely new scheme. Yes they named Jay Johnson as “person in charge” but it will be a collaborative effort per TimberLanning.

Would you want to come back and risk further injury behind that O line???

I watched a couple videos over the weekend from a former DC who broke down many of their failed and successful plays. He blames most of their failures on shitty QB play and the shitty O line secondary. It was kind of eye opening. They really whiffed on Raiola. He is not good and makes poor decisions.

  87. 17

I find it incredible that we have coaches that are actually refreshing, interesting, and confident and not a fucking dweeb like Riley / Smith, or a red-faced Coach Psycho Big Boy Pants. Our staff, from top to bottom, shows an awareness and poise, and they haven’t said anything that takes confidence away.

Maybe that’s just me, but this team is healing some wounds.

  88. Team took a bye week so I did too,

Vegas favoring the Beavs by a decent margin. They always know more than we do. Is this a trap game? not really

Fresno looked like a very tough opponent going into the season and still did for a few weeks. But losing to SDSU? That takes almost all the shine off. Not saying it’s going to be an easy win. But Fresno will not be able to hang with the Beavs in a boat race. Fresno can win the game by getting on the Beavs early and hanging on with the Beavs making mistakes.

Fresno ranks in the middle of the conference for defense and offense in conference games. Their QB isn’t a big runner but keeping him in the pocket or knocking him off his spot and making him uncomfortable is the goal. They’ve got some good players but no one is a star.

Beavs will need to stay balanced and run the ball effectively to wear down the defensive front. Dahlen dialed up some early downfield shots vs WSU going for an early kill. I expect a little more running mixed in early but still taking shots downfield. Hard to play defense vs the Beavs as they’ll take what a defense gives. Play back, Beavs run, load the box, pass deep. show blitz, screen play, show blitz but back off, check down.

I am much less worried about this game as the Beavs have shown an incredible amount of consistency on offense. The defense has played well enough to win but will need to show they can also help the Beavs win a game. This is needed for when they play Boise St.

Late night on Halloween after a bad loss, might put a dent into the Fresno crowd. Students will not stick around for the whole game. Checking in on the secondary market, lots of tickets up for sale and fairly cheap. I don’t think it’ll be a game with the famous hostile crowd atmosphere.

    • Hope you’re right about the lack of hostile crowd as people elect to spend their evening at Halloween parities and events rather than football. It makes sense. Young kids will want to trick or treat so parents will be skipping the game too.
Thought I read somewhere that margin of victory could come into play with teams being considered for G6 representation so I hope the Beavs stop taking their foot off thr gas from here on out.

      • No. Its the highest ranked G6 that gets the nod. However, being the highest ranked is subjective. So it’s still a dog and pony show.

Just win. All the Beavs can do

    • “The defense has played well enough to win but will need to show they can also help the Beavs win a game. This is needed for when they play Boise St.”

      100 percent.

Also agree on the check downs to the RB. Its been working. Take what the defense gives. Don’t force it. I felt there was too much forcing the pass vs WSU.

Newberry is a horse. Ride him.

Also agree this SHOULD be a W. Games aren’t played on paper though.

      Good thoughts and observations Bill

  89. Nicebeaver…..in reference to your post from Sunday I think? The trick play Oregon tried to run and failed miserably. Fast forward to the 18:30 mark. That play is broken down and discussed. A good QB doesnt audible out of that imo.

Mehrenger seems like a scapegoat for shitty QB play and a shitty O line.

Im not a duck honk but this guy breaks shit down and explains it in terms chuckle fucks like me can understand.

    • Agree that Raiola will make any OC look bad just by his boneheaded play.
Still don’t understand why oregon though they could win with him throwing plus a depleted WR room.
They could have rammed it down Illinois throat repeatedly and the dam would have eventually broken enough to get a few big gainers. I know, sad they didnt figure it out.

I see alot of people complaining today that the USC safety who knocked Moore out only received a single game suspension while their QB is now done for the season.
While I do think the USC defender got off easy with a simple targeting call, I dont think Moore is missingbtje remainder of the season due to that hit. If he wanted to play the next 5 games, he would be allowed to play. Sitting iut the remaining games is a business decision by Moore(dont blame him, their season is a lost cause)

    • Sun bowl just sucks and it’s a horrible venue. The Holiday would be great as SD is perfect this time of year with lots to do and the Beavs have never played in the Holiday Bowl. I think they’ve been to the Sun Bowl 3x in recent memory….that would just suck if that is where they end up

  90. I will laugh hard if we get a post-season match-up with Oregon. Some bowl wanting to put some butts in seats should try and make it happen, regardless of where the teams “fit” in the various conference tie-ins.

There are more than a few games like that I’d watch.
    Oklahoma v. Nebraska
    Pitt v. Penn State
ND – USC (not going to happen since ND is going to the playoff)

  91. “4. Jesse Legree, Oregon State ?? (4)

Legree and Oregon State were off in Week 8, which gave the true freshman breakout enough time to negotiate a deal to return to the Beavers for next season.

Despite not playing in Week 8, Legree still leads the country with 1,040 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns while averaging 22.6 yards per catch, which ranks third nationally. The former high school defensive back has been perhaps the best story of any player in college football this season, another factor working in his favor.

Legree’s status as a non-Power Four player hurts his status as a Heisman winner, but he should be in New York as a finalist, especially if he keeps up his pace that would break the NCAA’s single-season receiving yards record.”

“Hurts his status as a Heisman winner…” who edits this stuff? Lotsa errors at USAToday.

      • Lazy assumptions from lazy reporters who don’t take the time to actually research what they are writing.
I’ve also heard the pundits claim that the Beavs just feed Legree the ball in blowouts to increase his numbers, which is not accurate, but is exactly what Miami did for Toney last Saturday.
Legree hasn’t played a full game for a while. He is usually out mid 4th, if not early 4th. And his target ratio is much lower than anyone near him in the stats. He is the most productive wr per target in the country.

    • ‘if he breaks the ncaa single season record he shouldn’t get the Heisman as the best player in college football because other people in college football weren’t as good as him’ this is some excellent debate.

  92. 1

More info about how P12E is a value-add.
    https://www.rossvideo.com/blog/the-infrastructure-challenge-behind-every-sports-broadcast/
Explicitly mentioned as one of a handful of content producers already ahead of the curve.

    However, this statement:
Every sports broadcaster, OB company, and athletic conference faces the same infrastructure trade-off. A production switcher in a truck runs at full capacity on game day, then sits idle the rest of the week and goes dark during the off-season. A centralized hub runs five simultaneous productions on a packed Saturday, but only one or two on a weeknight. The equipment costs the same either way.
The traditional answer has been to size for peak. Equip every truck, every control room, and every production environment for the most demanding scenario it might face. A fully equipped HD mobile unit can cost millions to build, with timelines running over a year from design to deployment. University athletics departments are spending $5 to $8 million on dedicated broadcast centers just to keep pace with ESPN+ obligations.

…is no longer our problem. P12E does not go dark any more. And we schools who own it don’t need to pony up cash to create production. That investment was made over a decade ago. It was just seen by the other ten schools who helped create it as the kind of facility described in the above statement. That’s how short-sighted thos other schools are/were.

  93. Someone reminded me the fact that Lanning, the Duck mascot, Dante Moore, and other players went on a hype tour in Japan this past June for some reason, including a massive inflatable duck, and Dante Moore billboards in Tokyo for some reason. Oregon/Nike flied them all to Japan on a private jet. This video they made aged poorly….

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKBRLwWGOyE

    • That is fucking cringe worthy.

Can someone add Godzilla’s foot stomping on Puddles at the end wearing Adidias “concussion slide” line of shoes? Then it says “No Moore”

    • Full comment wasn’t bad at all. More respect of the Beavs WR talent and the challenge he’s up against.

But Beavs could use the headline as motivation if they need it.

    • The coaching staff says the team has had a good bye week and practiced very well with a lot of energy. I am learning to believe them, they are not just generic coach speak. So, I feel good about the Beavers chances this Saturday.

    • Greatest clap back from a receiver I’ve ever seen. In an NFL game last week the DB was talking junk all game, late in the game the receiver caught a touchdown pass and when the DB came over and started jawing the receiver grab him and turned him around so he could see his nameplate like “ who are you “

    • I think the “2” campaign should have been “One University, Two Candidates.”

How many other programs can say they that? Zero.

Atkinson better at least get a Maxwell or O’Brien QB award.

    • This seem like a massive distraction.

Aside from that any campaign for two candidates from the same school is likely to just ensure neither wins and potentially keep Legree from making a trip to New York.

Legree has a chance if he stays on pace, BIG IF, to break the NCAA record for receiving yards and TD’s in a season. Atkinson while doing awesome, would need to pick up the pace quiet a bit to even challenge the NCAA record for passing yards and / or TD in a season. 6000 yds and 62 TDs, that’s wild.

There’s a reason Legree is getting more attention and showing up on media mid season Heisman finalist lists.

      • Fun fact: Verne Burke was the first NCAA WR to gain more than 1000 receiving yards in a season. If Legree tops 2060, he would be the second Beav to break the single season record for yards.

The TD record is currently 27.

      • A big distraction? Pumping up a player’s brand? Are you joking or am I misunderstanding that comment?

Because in today’s climate players want, even expect, that brand building and glory, fame or whatever you want to call it.

        • Not pumping the breaks on a players brand, more the Heisman trophy part of it. If you’re hoping Legree will be a Heisman finalist or even better win the whole thing, another Heisman campaign on the same team is a distraction.

          • Got ya. Pretty remarkable to go from ashes to two Heisman hopefuls though, like that’s crazy. I seriously doubt either will get it based on the narratives already baked into the college football landscape.

  94. Pat Casey spotted in the Brewers dugout celebrating with Spencer Pratt after his 12th inning bomb. 3 outs away from being a WS champion too

      • Yep. Rays rallied in the last of the 12th. Doesnt matter. They arent gonna win 4 in a row. Why Milwaukee had Trevor Megill only pitch to one batter in the 8th is beyond reason. Struck the guy out on 5 pitches then replaced him in the 9th.

Bonehead move. Brewers still gonna win the WS

    • Hard worker. No wonder he makes it look easy.

Hard to believe he already has sub 4.3 speed. I don’t think he’s as fast yet as het going to be.

Cool that he went to his school for his “singing ceremony.”

    • The orange/white/orange uniforms in the photo look pretty good.

BUT, I hold out hope for leaving Nike and bringing in some other company.

    • Two things that popped out reading that article:
      1) Shep had interviewed for the wazzu job as well, I don’t remember seeing that previously
      2) This following paragraph is somewhat mind blowing and despite what detractors want to say about osu playing ‘weaker’ competition, Legree still leads college football as one of the best ever this early in his career. Like if the competition is so weak anyone could do it, why hasn’t anyone?
“Legree’s first seven games have produced one of the most productive starts to a college football season in history — freshman or otherwise. He is just the second FBS player in the past 30 years to record at least 100 receiving yards and a touchdown in each of his team’s first seven games of a season, joining Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon in 2010”

    • congrats to casey. Weird thing, he’s not listed anywhere on the brewers website as a coach or special assistant. But yet, there he is in the dugout.

        • Casey, returning the favor, what a guy:

“Pat, in 2021 you began your foundation, SOAR4 (Share Our Abundant Resources), a 501 (C) (3) organization with four pillars — feeding the hungry, housing and shelter, health services and education. Please update us on what is happening.

CASEY: In coaching, a lot of people do a lot of things for you. I always thought when I am out of coaching, I would like to return the favor. There are a lot of charities out there that are big and have a lot of overhead. If I was going to do it, I wanted to be able to say that we have no overhead. We take care of all the expenses. It’s been great. We gave more than $100,000 away over the last eight months. We are not like a lot of the bigger charities such as St. Jude. We look for people or organizations off the beaten path. We look for smaller things.”

    • Is he the only baseball coach to have both a college world series win and a MLB world series win? I know he’s not the skipper for the Brewers but have to assume he’s still getting a ring.

  95. Beavs injury report is very short this week. Wheston and Shaw are both out(no surprise there).
    Freauf is questionable.

That’s it. CB and OL position groups are going to have more bodies than they’ve had all year.
Nice to have some depth as we enter the stretch run

    • Healthy is good, since they seem to get injured at the CB spot at a high rate. Freauff is far down the depth chart so little impact there.

The bigger concern about Wells and Patterson seems to be over. Not sure why the NCAA is even trying to defend it’s position. They’ve lost all the cases.

  96. Unbelievable how the ESPN crew broadcasting the James Madison game “randomly” brings up Heisman lists and key players, immediately bring up only Mensah, & Jeremiah Smith “who is breaking records every week for Ohio St” and kind of trail off…..”and we will see who else rises into the Heisman conversation” in the next few weeks. Almost like they were directed to push a narrative in a specific direction and away from other contenders to inform “voters” that there are some who aren’t worthy to be considered. Ahem.
I hope Atkinson/Legree keeps confounding them and forces a recognition for teams and players other than their chosen 10 teams.

I don’t think Miami stays undefeated either. They are trying to push Toney and Mensah now that Smith won’t be able to keep his numbers up, and Ohio St will probably lose a couple of games before the season ends.

    • 10

Today’s media is all about agendas. A better tale would be the story of a phoenix rising from the ashes and becoming the Cinderella of the 2026 season. Americans love underdogs!

      • The narratives are always lies because the media is actually lazy and can’t take the time to learn beyond their top 5 teams in most sports.
A lot of hand wringing about a Milwaukee vs Tampa World Series by the numbers were as good as last year with the Dodgers in it. Same story with every other sport but guys like Cowherd refuse to talk about anything besides LeBronda, Cowboys, Chiefs, Dodgers and Yankees, then make a straw man argument that no one wants to hear about small market teams. Lazy and arrogant.

        • I wouldn’t be surprised if if Cristobal was approached by ESPN to boost Toney’s numbers since they realize that Smith is going to flyer a bit and Legree probably isn’t going to slow down.
Tin foil hat a bit but… we know why lengths ESPN was willing to go to reduce OSU Beavers in the first place, why would they play fair now?

        • “…the media is actually lazy and can’t take the time to learn beyond their top 5 teams in most sports.
A lot of hand wringing about a Milwaukee vs Tampa World Series by the numbers were as good as last year with the Dodgers in it. …then make a straw man argument that no one wants to hear about small market teams. Lazy and arrogant.”

          Bingpot!

People generally enjoy a comeback story, or a story where someone succeeds through creativity and effort, not just by buying success.

Shepard often mentioned “our story,” and I thought he was just talking general coach speak combined with a what I thought was a weak effort to market or brand the Beavers, because the Beavers had no real story. Turns out he means you set standards high and write your own story. Ignore the narrative, ignore the “Beavers were left behind and left for dead” and make your own damn story. Its working. And its a helluva lot more interesting than the lazy media narrative. And the team is generally fun and likeable.

Indiana in college football, Milwaukee in MLB…when the small market teams get there, the viewers enjoy the story and the novelty.

  97. Da Beav’s survived my visit to Reser! That was a great game and the stadium atmosphere was fantastic. Shep would be a shoe in for coach of the year if not for the UCLA story. Go Beavs!
    And FTD!

  98. I’m surprised this didn’t get more headlines that the Big 10 announced a 49 salary cap on spending for football programs as of 10/28. That’s a lot of money but at least there’s a cap now. Other conferences have to follow for it to make sense.

    • You really think Oregon, tOSU and Michigan will follow the rules?

Newsflash, they haven’t been and they’re not gonna start now.

Until someone steps up and harshly penalizies those skirting the rules.

      • Do you? I don’t. They weren’t before. I haven’t heard any consequences from programs tampering with players that weren’t in the portal. This is at a conference level rather than an ncaa level though. It’s a step in the right direction.

        • Guys like Legree and Atkinson can keep a rolodex of names, schools, calls, texts form all of the Big10,SEC, ACC, Big12 personnel who have already tried to reach them. There is an irony about having the 2 most coveted players for a future transfer portal opprotunity. It is bad enough to read duck fans acting like it is a fait accompli that both end up in Eugene next year. But as we know, even our friend GauxTigers has had the same idea for at least 6 weeks.

We aren’t naive enough to expect the fans to come up with it and the coaching staff/big money donors/alums/NIL merchants haven’t already made the attempts.
If it is truly tampering, then keep the lists, wait for the proper time and blow the lid on all of these clowns who think they can buy championships and that “everyone has a price”. I think money is a temptation for many, but what Legree did, and I hope he stays by it, is he declared that he values some things more than money.

But we know cheaters gonna cheat if they aren’t punished severely. But who will do the punishing now that the line is blurred between media and product, conferences and NCAA, post-season and merit/brand.

In a lot of ways, the wolves are guarding the henhouse, with only a little bit of illusion that NCAA still has some role, but not in reality. The NCAA has capitulated its authority to SEC/ESPN & FOX/Big10, and those conferences have too much to lose to begin accepting punishment for obvious premeditated cheaters in the likes of Kiffin or Lanning.

          • To get a picture of Legree’s value’s it’s worth listening to JoeBeav on 10/28. Late in the podcast Jesse’s high school coach speaks and highlights his approach and the example he sets for his players. Not sure how to link it here.
A key point mentioned by Coach Masai was that Jesse and his dad understand the value of being in a system which suits him and his talents; including the QB.

  99. B12 Comissioner leaving his job:

“His biggest accomplishment is saving the league,” the person said. “(Our) conference would have gone away if not for him. His simple proposition of giving Colorado a signing bonus to get them to join us in our league was a huge moment in time.

Otherwise, our conference could have gone away or been no different than the current Pac-12. Instead, we’re in a league that’s an AQ (automatic qualifier for the College Football Playoff).”
    …
The new leader has to find a way to close the gap,” the person said, “between the P-2 (Big Ten, SEC) and the Big 12 in a meaningful way in this new era.”

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/big12/2026/10/30/brett-yormark-leaving-big-12-commissioner-search-candidates/92516871007/

    • He isn’t a hero in the story, rather he is a stooge. He was the only one who could have led the charge to slow down what ESPN was orchestrating long enough to allow everyone else to form a semblance of resistance to the inertia that was being built up by 2022. I think his overtures towards Colorado weren’t as much about saving the Big12 as it was dooming the PAC12 and driving the stake through the heart of the old PAC unity. Unfortunately, Colorado was a Judas in the camp that never actually belonged in the PAC12 anyway, but they were the impetus for all of the rest to jump ship. If he had just included OSU/WSU it would have been a much more honorable move, but by refusing to consider OSU/WSU, he was burying 2 schools ot save his own schools rather than fight the behemoth that was/is ESPNSEC.
I think he was a short-sighted leader without many scruples in the final assessment. He had no problem sidlling up to the SEC/BIG10 brass as long as he got to play 3rd fiddle. He must realize by now that they will never let the Big12 become equals nor will his conference ever get a fair shake in the current playoff set-up.
My guess is that he already realizes the Big12 will still only get 1 team into the CFP even with 5 teams at 1 loss. He has fully capitulated to the dragon and now will take his payout and go off into the sunset.

  100. And the madness continues:

“An Alabama high school is willing to prove that football just means more in the Yellowhammer State.

Dothan City Schools posted an opening for its head coaching position at Dothan High School on Facebook on Thursday, Oct. 28. The salary for the next head coach comes with a salary range of $150,000-180,000.

“We’re hiring: Head Football Coach,” the Facebook post read. “Dothan City Schools is seeking a Head Football Coach to lead the Dothan High School Wolves football program!””

    • Notice the link includes a story about nike u making plans to eliminate some post grad programs. So Phil spends money on a disappointing FB team AND donates to a shrinking academic side as well.
Somewhere in Asia there are kids who are beginning to believe in Karma!

  101. I don’t know if they just have a lot of knuckleheads on the Duck roster which is what is causing the losses and the off-field issues. Or if the losses are why we are hearing about these things, the cops don’t feel there is anything to “protect” anymore.

    • 4
      2

They have a culture issue. If you recall one of their coaches was arrested last spring for DUI.

      And hes still coaching there.

        • 3
          1

Those in the know say there’s more to the story and 9 players were involved.

But PK donated a bazillion dollars or something to start an engineering program at UO.

I know, one has nothing to do with the other.

Where’d you get your structural engineering degree from son?

          Faber

I just dont know if I can take that seriously.

Yellow journalism, Law AND Engineering? Pretty soon a Faber degree will be just like in Idiocracy where you could buy any college degree at Costco.

Pioneers those Faber grads are gonna be

  102. Fyi……originally, I thought the ducks vs NW would not be televised, but when I checked my DVR scheduled recordings, it shows the ducks are on NBCSN channel 1211 Xfinity. My only interest is to see NW, Kelly and Chiles take the ducks behind the woodshed and kick the crap out of them. Anyway, so it’s on 1211 FWIW.

  103. NW just got homered on a PI on 3td down and the ducks 1st down on the 5 yard line and when they score, they will lead 27-23 start of 4th.
