This article simply cracks me up, mainly because it's exactly what I've been writing for three weeks.
Most of this blog's readership agreed with me, but a bunch of dissenters showed up vehemently denying there were problems with the defense, stating that the scrimmages only showcased the potency of the offense.
"Angry, you know nothing about football, I think the coaches know more than you and they aren't complaining about the defense!"
"Angry, you are an idiot, scrimmages mean nothing. You can't deduct anything from them!"
What I can deduct from that train of thought is that Mark Banker, too, must be an insane idiot who knows nothing about football. Right?
Looks like Angry is once again proven to be a Cassandra, as now the defensive coach has come out and essentially admitted that his defense (specifically the run defense) stinks, validating the past three weeks of my work. It makes me wonder what excuse the Pollyannas are going to come up with next. For those who are unfamiliar with the terms, here you go.
To be honest, I can't wait to hear the orange-colored optimists' new delusions (ironic, aren't the Cassandras supposed to be the delusional ones?). The mental disease that is fandom has become somewhat of a subplot on this blog. Isn't it interesting how more people are going to be concerned about the defense now that a person of authority said the defense is poor? Can you say The Milgram Experiments?
If I had to guess, I'd say that instead of admitting my assessment was correct, or of admitting that one need not be a coach to have a correct assessment, the new delusion will go something like this:
"Angry, Paea makes all the difference! He wasn't in the scrimmages!"
Or
"Angry, the players are going to read that article and step up their game! You just watch!"
Or they'll stick to the notion that the offense, breaking in a new, sophomore QB, is just that good.
Can't wait.
Oh, and no need to say it: apology accepted.
What is your reaction to the rough scrimmages for the defense?
“In both scrimmages we didn’t play to any potential. We were flat out average. I’m tired of seeing the deep ball being complete. I don’t care how good or fast James (Rodgers) is, or how good of an arm (Ryan) Katz has. We played vanilla, but if we can’t play vanilla then the chocolate and strawberry, why practice it. We need to be sound and play technique. The scrimmages, hopefully, that’s not an indication of who we are or who we will be.”
This quote by Banker tells me that he is very concerned with our defense, however, he is also optimistic in hoping that the scrimmages are not an indication of what this defense is about. I have faith in Banker, but it’s the HEALTHY players that will play this season. So if someone goes down, God help the defense! The reason I say that is because it appears with the injuries and with key players out, the defense is not Banker’s defense of the past. Sounds like the pass rush was focussed on more than the run aspect…which screams “problem”!! Hence the technique that Banker is talking about. So yes beaver fans, be concerned about our defense because Banker even said it himself, “They’ve been playing average to below average.” This scares me that our depth is not there..we lost about 4 viable players that were either starters or viable backups.
The move of Collins to LB says Banker believes everything he said. There’s no motivation tactics or other excuses there. Plain and simple it’s a bad situation at MLB and Banker admitted it.
If they did this two weeks I’d feel better about it. Collins had better be precocious if he’s going to be at MLB by opening day.
Guys, if you play (ncaa) fantasy football visit the forum. I put together a league of the western conference player pools…sent an invite out to those of you whom I had a valid email address.
The password is:password
Well…never have done a fantasy league, but I’m in nonetheless. Sounds fun.
You should give the winner free membership to the AngryBeavs blog!
Haha. Maybe the winner can be a forum admin/moderator.
I played ncaa fantasy last year. It was not as good as NFL, but I think part of the problem was the player pool was too large. This year I am limiting the pool to two conferences. That, and the fact that it will be Beaver fans instead of annoying Ohio State fans, should make it better.
A breakthrough!
From Kirkpatricks blog:
Collins to LB?
S Cameron Collins took some snaps at OLB in Saturday’s practice. He suggested it to the coaches, and they are looking into it. “He may be used as a hybrid or an OLB in the future. He has good size at 6-foot-2, 230 pounds for an OLB, but speedy enough to play S.
“It’s something we are looking to doing,” Riley said. “We’ve had looks in the past with guys who played safety in situations there. We are moving him into that. That could fit into packages. We are trying to get him coached up there.”
Also Henry appears to be alright for TCU.

Just got in. Read the whole sister fight on the other post. Yay!
Banker finally shows some bone? Maybe there’s more to the man than we want to let on?
I’ll check in on fantasy. Is it even fair in the NCAA’s?
JackBeav, what do you mean by fair?
Every owner has he same player pool and a draft pick each round, so I’d say so. Some might go after RBs from the MWC who play poor competition, but there should be one of those guys available for everyone.
Yeah, I was thinking of the lack of parity in college football. I guess it works a little better if you limit it to one or two leagues.
The problem with an overall fantasy league is that you just get some ridiculous numbers from players due to wussy schedules. The NFL may have some bad teams, but the level of play on the worst team isn’t too far away from the mean.
Quiz is the only player who sounds confident in this game.

“Deduce”. Not “deduct”. Errors like this detract from your argument.
look at this Strunk & White
Do you realize I published a book that is available on Amazon.com? Just saying.
Anyway, they mean the same thing, especially when discussing the process of the mind. Nice try, though.
