Yawn.
It's too early. Too early for football. And too early to be counting marine mammals at the beach, which is what I'll be doing come kickoff.
Ugh.
Working on a Saturday should be a felony. Since it isn't, I'm going to miss the first half hour of this game, which is always a scary proposition. You know what I mean. You rush home, throw your gear on the floor, hit the "on" button not knowing what to expect. You see a "14-0" score but it doesn't register; your eyes dart back and forth in a panic trying to figure out if it's the good guys. It all happens within nanoseconds. You look for cues. Why is the crowd so quite? Why is Riley shaking his head? Is that…Katz…in a sling? Finally, you settle down; you compute.
"*^U&G^&H#!@! Fire Banker!"
Nah, things are going to be alright (*insert HOUSE OF HORRORS cliche*)
Speaking of Halloween, what are you all dressing up as tonight? Around 5pm tonight I'll be Mark Mothersbaugh, energy dome and all.
Off to work.
Cheers, Beavlettes.
What network is televising the game?
FCS is televising the game live. It’s a premium package channel for FoxSports, so I don’t have it. I have to wait until 7:30 for the tape delay on FSN.
I’m dressing as beer drinking guy in a Lazy Boy. Snow Cap is out, and I don’t miss seasonal beer drinking opportunities.
Haha. Nice costume.
So psyched I made it home.
The game is on Fox College Sports (Pacific)–I had to order this package since I don’t get FSNW in California, and most of those games are aired on FCS.
Anybody know any “sports bars” in the Portland area that carries that channel?
JackBeav, do you listen on the radio/net, or turn everything off until 7:30?
I check in on gametracker and just watch other games. So I don’t care if I see the score or not. A win or loss just determines my mood when i do watch the tape delay.
Right now it looks like I’ll be in a pretty good mood. Since my wife isn’t here, I feel free to say the only thing that would make me any happier would be to see USC thump UO. But I’ll tell her that I hate USC… which I do. So I’m not lying.
Take a look at the Beavs hoops page. The pic of Haynes has a good look at the new uni’s. That’s a really sharp uni! I am very happy with that look.
Those uniforms look good. Maybe a little tight, but a huge improvement over prior years.
they look just like ohio state’s basketball jerseys, which is not a bad thing
I never really liked the alternate road uni’s. For some reason, black just isn’t a good hoops color. I wonder if we get an alternate charcoal instead. I think it would contrast the orange and white much more than does the black.
Still, orange road uni’s are always my favorite.
I should have said black isn’t a good color for contrast with orange and white. It looks great with red and white. :)
There’s an internet stream of the game here:
http://www.fromsport.com/v-0/8/162/v-96376.html
You’ll need to install the StreamTorrent program for it to work.

Go Beavs!!!!!!
Any other links for streaming? Can’t get this one to work. Tnx.
Davon Moreland is visiting the Beavs this weekend–I guess there was something to that rumor after all.
Angry: Moderate my previous post visible please. Maybe include the link to the stream out on the main article, since it doesn’t seem like hardly anyone has FCS channel.
Kevin Riley knocked out on a vicious hit to the knee.
please someone post frequent updates – streaming audio/video is blocked at work…
14-0 Beavs.
Quiz with 70+ yards in the 1st and a throwing/rushing TD.
Touchdown Quiz!
Quiz ripping em up
He’s ignoring where the play is designed to go and improvising. I guess he had enough of the bad blocking.
OSU at the 5, looking to go up 3 scores.
21-0, Quizz scores again.
Quiz show for sure. Perry apparently snapping OK, Alex OK at center; both areas of concern prior to game.
Hope we get to a point where Alex can get some time off and maybe also some playing time for Vaz. Pretty soon to talk this way but, just saying…
Just watching the gamecast on espn it looks like frahm is playing surprisingly well
Alright, lets take some bets on how many penalties cal ends up with. I’ll give 3 to 1 that it’s over 12 :D
Some big time recruits at this game–see the thread below this one for details. Look in the comment area.
What’s the record for penalties in a game? Cal’s aiming for it.
Katz TD pass to the TE. Love that TE screen.
WildBeaver pass, double-reverse, multiple fly sweeps, TE screen…
I have a theory. Landsdorf literally lost his playbook the past few weeks and was too ashamed to admit it, so we ran like the smae 6 boring plays over and over. Today, he found it under the couch, so now we can run a real offense again.
it’s all about the bye week…
what are the chances osu lands any of these recruits?
and how the hell have i never heard of thomas tyner? just watched a couple youtube videos on him.. wow
Tyner is a 2012 recruit, which is why you haven’t heard of him. They have a good shot with him since Pat Casey’s brother is his high school coach, and they’re getting his first visit (today).
I thought they had no shot with Moreland, but that he’s at this game means the odds are at worst pretty good.
tyner would be a fantastic get.. already has real good size and is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast
Fumble!!!@! Pankey recovers! :D
FU Kahut.
Easy, King, you’re better than that. Does bring up the question of how long Riley waits to give the other walk on a chance. My vote: put the other kicker in even if just once or twice to let Kahut know the end is near. If Kahut has a broken spirit and falls apart we really haven’t lost a lot, OTOH he might respond.
FU Dominic Glover for putting us in that situation- he would have been a great duck with that sort of unnecessary shit.
Here is a link to watch the game… no need to install anything.

Thanks, LStep, works for me.
Oooops, link down as half begins.

Is there any news on Rahmel Dockery?
He is waiting to receive more offers apparently, but does OSU have the best chance to land him?
He is fast and OSU needs fast.
Time to take Quizz out.
Ummm, no….
He has A LOT of yards to make up.
???????
There are like 2 or 3 other RBs in the PAC-10 that are averaging more yards than Jacquizz…. hes having a crappy year… needs to beef his stats.
Agreed. Others to pull? Maybe Linnenkohl and Katz after another series.
Agreed, as in time to pull Quiz
It was Jaq.’s personal goal to gain 1800 yards. That goal means fuck-all if he gets injured in garbage time trying to get there.
Hecker got his one terrible kick per game out of the way.
LOL@JH
Hardin with the sweet belly-to-back suplex, WWE-style.
This Cal QB is making the D look better than they are.
To their credit, they were looking hungry before Riley went out.
Keith Pankey doesn’t care…
I listen to the games on internet radio. Usually on KPAM. I can’t get it today, which is ok because there is a neat website in case radioheads don’t know about it.
http://www.freefootballradio.com/
So, I connected to a Cal station.
Wow Jaquizz was up to 120 yards for the game…he’s at 102 now.
I hate watching the stupid box score play-by-play…what happened to the -14 yard rush? Penalty?
And…I expected a pulse from Cal…took the Over at 53 pts…just needed a little help!
I got a parlay runnin on the entire pac 10, OSU -2.5, AZ -9, UO -7, Stanford -7.5, wzu +21… UCLA is currently scaring the shit out of me. I need this or the money roll in the old sportsbook account falls to 0.
Good luck.
I don’t like the Stanford pick. USC is going to be tough, too–can’t wait for that game.
I don’t know…I think Luck is going to shred the UW secondary…like Katz should have done before he decided to shit himself in Husky Stadium.
UCLA just got the ball down five on a circus punt return fumble and fumble recovery. They have the momentum right now.
I’m so screwed… Stoops, you’ve fucked me again. I hate you so very much. Bob and Mark also.
Per KPAM, Vaz warming up; finally. Hope Quiz and Linnenkohl stay on bench too.
Give it to Ryan 3 times…
Good win for the Beavs, i’m not complaining, but…. they’ve gone into cruise control for nearly the entire 2nd half. They scored in the first series in 3rd qtr (?), and haven’t done crap since. Riley must be in his typical “now let’s not pile on points, boys…” mode. Very frustrating. They should’ve laid 56 or 62 on Cal today. They seem like they just lose whatever fire they have in the middle of the game.
Boy, a shutout sure would have been nice.
Sure a shutout would be nice but, 5 more chances coming up and no reason for big heads on D.
Thoughts on whether or not this game marks the turning point in Beavs attitude and passion which we’ve all been waiting for.
Love the earlier remark by; OneEye about Langsdorf just now finding the playbook.
I’m looking forward to watching this game tonight on crappy FSN standard definition.
These Ducks…going for 2 @ USC. Steel balls.
Disagree. They line up like that every time. It takes balls to do something you DON’T normally do.
Lane Kiffin is an idiot, trying to change the play as the QB is calling for the ball to be snapped. They deserved that TD against them.
You had me at ‘Fink is an idiot’.
early reports are a torn MCL for Kevin Riley and his career at Cal is over

On the Beaver game:
Agree completely on the foolishness of not playing McCants.
1- we want to make sure Quizz is rested and healthy, but also
2- a productive McCants would be an excellent complement to Quizz, and it would be great to let him earn some trust from Riley.
On another note though, anyone else notice some freakin awesome Pankey tackles?! How about the one where we jumped through two blockers to wrap a guy up at the line of scrimmage?
Pankey played better, but he has a loooong way to go before receiving genuine accolades. Right now it’s “hey, at least he didn’t completely suck!”…aka a backhanded compliment.
I disagree. Let’s give the guy some credit. I used my DVR thingy to watch several plays, and Pankey seems to be playing a little better than he was previously.
He still looks like the last kid picked for kickball when he runs out on the field, but he’s getting to his spots and actually making tackles. And when he’s outrun by five yards he gets to see fumbles created by others.
He did well today. This is his measuring stick. He can do better, or he can go back to what he was doing.
I think the best news coming from this game has to be that we took cal to town with many high profile recruits visiting
Can someone please shut the Duck fans up and bring them down some levels?
Duck fans in person and on message boards are already talking like a National Championship is guaranteed or that it is now a given that the Ducks at least make it to the NC game.
Yes, the Duck team is good on offense… and yes they finally won their second game against a team with a winning record, but don’t start spouting that a NC is a given now after 8 games.
The collective masturbation of the Duck fanbase on eachother right now is disturbing.
Couple things I noticed was Katz threw into some risky and unprofitable places instead of checking down again and his throws were all off…. it was a great effort by our receivers that we got the air yardage we did.
And, I don’t understand why we don’t bring in McCants to block-run in front or Quizz once in a while.
Very aggressive play calling. I think the “second half of the season surge” we see every year is tied to this. It seems like we start out vanilla and then work in more and more wrinkles as the season progresses. I dunno if the system is just too complicated or what but we were sending a ton of different looks on D. CB blitzes and even a few zone blitzes. I liked what I saw but think that the Beavers do need to be careful playing with fire. Luck and Barkley can make us pay for that. Thomas too but the more Ducks I see the more I think you need to send pressure from all over.
Katz was decent. He missed several reads though. I am not sure if he felt too much pressure to make the progression but several times he missed open guys. Several balls were pretty risky too. Seems to me he is more comfortable making the check down throw… at the same time teams are really respecting Quizz in the check down so I think that is a lot of the reason that we haven’t seen a lot of it. Teams are taking it away and that is fine. Also with as much deep ball respect as Wheaton is getting we could really work in some 15 or 20 yard routes were he just sits down. All in all Katz is progressing. Vaz didn’t impress but it is hard to gauge because a lot of the starters were out. I imagine though Manion is the next in line anyway. Vaz may want to transfer if he doesn’t want to be a back up.
The D seems to have found the killer instinct. Frahm was solid even when playing with Orlander. Seems like undersized DT’s work in the Pac-10. I also think Frahm will be a solid DT next year even though he has been bashed on here. I am still not big on Hardins coverage skills but he has made some plays. Pankey was solid. I thought he had a decent game at UW also. It is kind of frustrating that Pankey and Roberson are just starting to come on and they are seniors. I don’t know if the roles are too complicated or what but we need guys contributing at LB before they are seniors.
Also I can’t wait to see Prince and Joe the Tank on the field together next season. Prince at TE and Joe at H-Back.
Living in LA I always try to catch the Beavs when they come down to play. I waited too long to get tickets through OSU. Now me and my buddy from the Coos Bay area will be representing in the end zone amongst drunk Bruin fans.
UCLA scares me. They are like UW in that one week to the next you don’t know if you are playing them when they are up or down. Baylor beat Texas yesterday so maybe that win wasn’t as big a deal as everyone thought, but none the less they are probably looking to knock off the Beavs.
Last couple years it seems that the no huddle teams do really well in college (like the yucks). Anyone think this is the wave of the future… the game is so much about speed these days that I have a feeling we will see more and more of this.
I am a little surprised at all the accolades for the Beaver defense. Seems like everyone forgot that Riley just completed a third and long pass with the defender with his back to the play as usual. They shut down a back up who was shocked to be playing, ok that was good and expected. If they do not give up 450 to USC and Stanford, then I will give credit for the improvement. Beavers got a break just like the Huskie caught when when James went out.
I agree to an extent. The team was bailed out by timely penalties and the Riley injury. But at the same time they were stingy. They were giving up 1 or 2 yards instead of 3 or 5 yards. There were still some big plays but those will happen in out scheme. We were getting pressure on passing downs and stingy with the run which is what you want. USC, Stanford, and Oregon will put up points and yards. Some of the weight is going to have to be on the offense to control the ball and keep up.
I agree. Not saying they did not play well, but it was very favorable circumstances yesterday. We should expect no less than a similiar performance against UCLA and Wazzu and then some improvement in the other three games. I just think the media is playing up the problem solved angle and not mentioning the unusual cirmustances enough.
I was at the game and I could tell during warm ups and during the game breaks and such, the entire Beavers team was ready to play yesterday. They were lined up ready to go well before Cal was ready to play. That includes when our defense came onto the field, the kickoff/kick return came onto the field. The Beavs played disciplined football yesterday. I was bored in the second half when our offense came out cause I couldn’t yell. That’s another thing I noticed is that the fans who remained for the second half actually wanted to keep yelling when we were on defense.
The fans pissed me off a lot yesterday…I saw a ton of fans leaving about 8 minutes to go before half time and they didn’t return. Why would you pay money to watch 22 minutes of actual football? That’s money being wasted! Grant it we’re up 28-0, but that doesn’t mean CAL couldn’t make a comeback in the second half. I see a real difference between fans down south of Corvallis and fans for the Beavers….Beavers fans don’t all cheer and when when it’s a “blowout” they leave early instead of either consoling or celebrating in the stadium with fellow fans. I just don’t get it.
It’s because most Beaver ticket holders are 50+. In my area, there’s only one couple besides myself that isn’t pushing 60 or 70. I have to go 6 or 7 rows in my normal line of view to find another person that was born in the 80s.
Our season tickets are in the family section and I was seeing teenagers getting up and walking out…I even saw a 20 year old wearing a Uck hat at the game yesterday…I was like…ummm…really?! Also, you have to think of what fan base beaver fans are….the Agricultural communities, the forestry communities and so on. The season tickets are too much money for those types of people to try and go to a game. Young people who don’t have much money and can’t afford to spend money to go see a football game just won’t go. It’s those who have been in the working business and have enough “spare” money to go to the games.
Sorry, I don’t buy the whole “young” people can’t afford tickets spiel. I’ve had season tickets since the first season I wasn’t a student anymore (2005). Only one of the classmates I still talk with couldn’t afford season tickets right now, even in this economic crisis. I recently attended the wedding of a friend and watched a few other OSU grads there blow what I pay for season tickets on alcohol over a five day period. Young OSU grads simply aren’t able to budget correctly or just don’t care about football. I’m betting on the latter.
I concur. I don’t know why they’re all old, but they are!
Quatre,
It’s not a matter of budgeting your money thing or whether one chooses to pay for it or not; it comes down to whether the person is just a fan of the university or a sports/football fan and willing to spend money to watch a live game. The “pride pack” thing is a great way for fans to watch 3 live games of their choice except the civil war i believe. My point isn’t that the prices for season tickets are too much money, it’s that young people don’t see it as a good use of money. ie. not being able to drink in the stadium vs. drinking during the game if it’s on tv. the games that aren’t on tv….usually get more fans in the seats. idk if I could afford my own season tickets right now, I would buy my fair share from my dad whom has 8 season tickets a piece and ya, it’s hard to find guys my age to go to a game these days for whatever reason…
It is tough to tell because I sit on the old side but the new side seems to be the problem with leaving early. I mean if that is what you want to do that is fine I guess but it would be nice if people stuck around.
