Welp, the football team took the wind out of my sail. I'm not sure I can stomach another loss, and after reading Colorado's bio this does sound like a sure loss. Here's their scouting report:
Colorado enters the game with a 3-3 record with wins over Idaho State, Alcorn State and Texas-Pan American and losses to Georgia, San Francisco and Harvard. Dating back to last season, the Buffs have won six straight home games. First-year head coach Tad Boyle possesses one of the best guard combos in the nation in senior Cory Higgins (18.5 ppg) and sophomore Alec Burks (20.7 ppg). The tandem are averaging a combined 39 points per game this season after combining for 36 a game last year, which was the third-best returning scoring combination in the nation. Boyle came to Colorado after four years as the head coach at Northern Colorado where he led the Bears to a 25-8 record in his final season. The Buffs have committed single-digit turnovers in three of their six games this season.
This university needs to start winning some games in major sports.
The Beavers play to the level of their opponent so maybe they can win it but I’m not too confident that will happen. But a win would make this saturday not too terrible. I can’t take another loss from teams I root for it’s been a rough week.

Problem with the Beavers they’re just pounding the ball with no point. Everyone is standing around doing nothing. They aren’t even making Colorado play much defense.
Here’s what I’m puzzled about: Based on his education and resume I’m assuming that CR is a very intelligent fellow. He’s also played basketball at a very high level so he’s been exposed to excellent coaches and their game plans.
It seems to me like he’s unable to transfer his knowledge and experience to his team.
What am I missing?

Craig Robinson was a coach who was only hired due to his “celebrity” and connections to Obama.
It’s helped recruiting hasn’t it?
Once Obama’s puppet masters no longer need him in office, then De Carolis can look for another coach (if the U.S. economy hasn’t totally been destroyed).
They often seem to struggle with the fundamentals and don’t play smart which is confusing considering CR played at Princeton and it was hammered into their players to be fundamentally sound and play smart.
Exactly, it’s what I don’t understand as well. I’m hoping someone can explain this to me–I’m not a huge basketball guy. I pretty much hate the sport outside of OSU hoops.
You can’t really explain something like that. Only conclusion I come to is the fundamentals aren’t being hammered into the players in practice as much as it should. I also don’t think they run the Princeton offense as much they should. They would put on clinics at times last season. Now they just dribble the ball too much and shoot jump shots they don’t attack the rim enough. CR I hope understands it’s time to go back to basics and get this team to be better at the fundamentals and work their ass off every game. It feels like he’s trying to rely on their athleticism and talent and not run an actual offense anymore.

I just went over to the OSU website and watched the CR interview, which took place after the Utah Valley debacle, it seems like there is some fear and indecision in his eyes, voice and body language.
Like he doesn’t know what the hell to do.
Uhhh Craig, you’re making way too much money to be feeling like that.
It appears that OSU is paying some really big bucks for Craig’s education or on the job training.
I hope to hell I’m misreading the situation.
Did you see him walking into the locker room? Head down. He looks defeated and broken, much like his team. He’s lost them and visa versa. I’ve got a bit of a man crush on him because of his recruiting, but I’m starting to slowly accept the fact that he can’t coach.

He has always played the philosophy card when explaining these type of loses instead of digging into the X and Os. It is time to move on from the 0-18 season.
When all else fails just cast off from way the hell out there.

This might be the worst week of sports I’ve had in quite some time. All the teams I root for have been bad this season …..sigh this sucks
If performances like this happen often no way Craig is back next season. I had some hope for this team but that has ended. It’s obvious Craig just isn’t a good coach which hurts. I would hate for the rebuilding process to start over again.

I feel terrible for the young players – signing with OSU and expecting more more than they’re getting. I think CR has lost them – not just the games.
And they end up leaving. This happened before with Eddie Payne and his fab freshmen and I know it was under different circumstances, but the Beavs had a great recruiting class for 1997 season, I think they lost 20 games and within two years they all had transferred or in the case of Corey Benjamin left for the NBA too soon. Payne had the rep of strong recruiter, lousy X and O guy.
Exactly why I feel Craig is Eddie Payne 2.0 . Some guys are just meant to be the lead assistant who can recruit their ass off. If you can recruit like hell but can’t coach them up what good will it do you to have all that talent? Craig’s flaws are becoming evident and it’s hurting this team.

Really are Calvin,Lathan and Omari any better players than they were when they were sophomores? I do not see where their game has improved or evolved. They certainly have not developed any leadership skills.
His best coaching so far was two years ago when he introduced a new offense and defense to a down P-10 and figured out how to best use Seth and Roland in his scheme.
I was at the game last night, about 15 feet away from the OSU bench. Robinson stopped doing anything after about 15 minutes into the first half. He just kept looking back at the scoreboard. It was pretty disappointing, he just sat there looking shell shocked.
My only other observation that you might not have seen on TV was that Cunningham was doing some serious pouting while on the bench. That guy needs to grow up.
Robinson sat Cunningham for long minutes against Utah Valley also for what looked like lapses on defense. Apparently, Starks had altitude sickness?
I didn’t notice any obvious altitude sickness, unless the thin air was somehow throwing off his shot!
This team needs some 5AM practices and quickly. This team has zero identity. I think CR fell in love with his athletic talent on the team and has decided to let them play playground style basketball. They are not good enough to do that. Basketball is a sport where discipline and hard work can beat more talent. I have not given up on CR, but I do see some very scary trends. This game, they were milling around on the top of the key and then settling for a bad shot. It is time to take control of the offense, these guys are not ready to just beat teams with athleticism. Take control now and hopefully Nelson will be the link-pin that will make this team come together.
I fear that Roberto Nelson is being burdened with savior status before he even hits the floor. Cunningham does make mistakes but I assume he’d learn to correct them if he wasn’t pulled everytime he makes one. It must be difficult to have to think 1) about the play and 2) a possible benching.
Exactly, I do not see any discernible offense except get a steal and fast break. Who says athletes cant run the Princeton? 1-3-1 is not working so great anymore either, true it is still getting some steals, but leaving wide open threes with poor rotations. Steals do not mean much if you cannot score off of them anyway.
I hope the pressure does not overwhelm Roberto, but this team needs a big scoring threat to open up things and also a reliable three point shooter.
I’m not quite ready to throw Robinson under the bus yet, but I might be if he doesn’t turn it around next year. Beyond Haynes, Johnson, and Wallace (who are all marginal pac-10 talents anyway), most of these guys are only in their 2nd year in the program, and are first year starters at best. Freshman and sophomores are not going to win a lot of games at the D-1 level unless they are supported by experienced, quality upperclassman or are one-and-done type players. None of that applies to this team. Rather, the underclassmen are solid (not elite) talents the bulk of which would be role players in most quality college basketball programs. Even Nelson who is apparently the most talented was still only a top-75 kid. Its the top-20s that can be expected to make an immediate difference, and we have yet to land one of those….
