Today I woke to a pleasant surprise. The Beavs are on ACB in high definition. Fans will get to see players rather than pixelated blobs. Maybe we'll get real telecasters, too.

I know I picked the Beavs to get blown out (and most here also believe that will happen), but the bad weather makes me think this game will be both closer and lower scoring than we all think.

Go Beavs.

    • Sorry, but if the Beavs don’t have a big improvement in the OL and the DT, linebacker, DB areas I don’t think they’ll be better than a 500 team. bwdik

  1. De Carolis actually listened and painted the Pac-12 logos so they look sharp. At least he did something. Before this I couldn’t find much proof he was listening to any of the fans. The logos look WAY better!

  2. Why the hell do we EVER have running backs blocking, its SO BAD. Especially when we have so many undersized backs, it’s just incredibly stupid.

Mannion made a great throw on 3rd and super-long, but then Wheaton comes up gimping.

    • Mannion is a red shirt freshman. Go ahead and disagree with reality if you want.

We avoided disaster there, but we really need to take advantage of every stop we get. And with Wheaton looking hurt, we just lost our most consistent weapon.

Over/under 55 passes this game? I’m taking the over.

    • Since when do you not get a whole year of being a “freshman”? Also I’d hardly say being the scout team qb hardly translates into actual game experience.

  3. Don’t like the punt. 30 yards is NOT impressive. If you want to beat a team that is superior to yours, you have to take smart risks, and going for it there would have been a smart risk.

  4. Beavs have looked good, but the formula for winning was +2 TO margin and converting the turnovers into TDs.

Hopefully the weather continues to affect Stanford (i.e. the INT and dropped TD)

  5. Riley blew his only chance to win this game. By going for it around the 40 yard line we could have scored the first TD and had some momentum for the rest of the 1st half. Stanford will punch it in now and will get in a groove of long drives and scoring TDs. Way to go McRiley.

  6. Emotion will take this D only so far, haven’t seen conditioning this year to convince me they keep this close. Prove me wrong Beavs, please. Emotion also often leads to over persute

      • Yep. I can’t fucking stand the beat down lollygagging Riley mentality this offense has. Get up and stroll back to the huddle. Punt on 4th and manageable. Let the clock run out at the half when you’re down.

Fucking have some fire and try to win you fucking bitch.

  7. I definitely wouldn’t say the offense played 15 minutes of decent football. Two bad drives, including what should have been called a safety.

Proud of the defense, hopeful for its future.

But come on, game over? Seriously? 3 quarters to go. And while it would have been nice to jump out to another 21-point lead, that just wasn’t going to happen. If the offense gets some rhythm, and the D keeps playing hard, we can still win this.

    It’s just not likely.

  8. That third and 5 play was big. The Beavers could have had good field position if they got a stop. Instead, they play 8 yards off the receiver and it’s an easy first down. Then once Luck ran for 17 on 3rd and 3 they got it rolling. Beavers about to be taken to the woodshed now. When you have chances you can’t blow them against squads like Stanford. They will eventually get it going.

  9. Chance to lay a hard lick on Luck and Crochton barely touches him. Now a Stanford TD. Looks like Riley has Stanford right where he wants them. Looks like a 2-10 season to me. MAJOR changes needed!

  10. The reason you challenge that catch: the D can’t keep stopping Luck.

As a coach, you have to know that and see the risk/reward is worth it. Riley is so slow.

  11. No coincidence the Beavers moved it in the air when they went to James. He never drops passes. He may not have the speed he once did, but he runs great routes and has great hands. He needs to get the ball a lot more. Wheaton has speed and lots of potential but he is always dropping passes these days.

    • I typed that before I realized the receiver was injured…I don’t like injuries, but I think Poyer is obviously a clean player, and he is backing up his words from this week with effort.

  12. That was a bullshit call, the receiver lowered his helmet that is the only reason it was helmet to helmet. Good to see Banker and Riley arguing though.

  13. You have to be kidding me. I’m so sick of these new tackling rules in the NFL and college. Afalava used to have some actual dirty helmet-to-helmet hits. That was not a dirty hit at all. As Brock Huard is saying, how was Poyer supposed to play that differently?!

  14. Riley is so bad.

Let’s 15 seconds run off the clock before calling a timeout. Obvious timeout situation…heck, he should have called it the play before. Brock all over him. Another telecaster killing Riley.

  15. The plan there has to be “keep 50 seconds on the clock, try to get a big kick return and FG attempt..”….why waste 15 seconds? I just don’t understand.

  16. WOW

Butchery. Riley cannot manage a clock. Never could, but this is absolute butchery. I’d love an apologist to explain how that is not pure (terrible) coaching.

  17. Damnit to hell Riley. Call a frickin’ timeout. Riley should be fired for not being able to manage the most basic situations. WTF!

  18. Brock Huard is laying the wood on the coaching staff and it’s well deserved. The coaches blame the players weekly for these losses, yet, from an outside perspective, on multiple occasions, our coaching staff’s decisions are being questioned. Can’t teach an old dog new tricks

  19. Fucking A, these kids have the talent today to beat Stanford but are being put in a position to lose. Fuck Mike Riley, Langsdorf and Banker (though hes doing okay this game)

  20. Our D on the field just short of 21 minutes in the first half against an outstanding offense. Right now I see good things ahead on D for the Beavs. Talking here of next year, when I expect more of the D-line.
Ready to see how much help our O will give the D in the second half. Looks like the coaches won’t be much help!

  21. I gotta say, the Beavers are giving it all they have so far. While they may not prevail, there is no doubt as to their huge effort. Sadly, the same cannot be said for their bumbling, stumbling, HC.

  22. I was honestly amazed that the offense lined up and took some shots before halftime.

Downing the ball and walking off the field like a bunch of 2 ball bitches with 30 seconds left on the clock is a Riley signature move.

  23. I missed a big part of the second quarter. But I saw terrible playcalls on offense, and terrible game management by Riley.

Seriously, run Agnew up the middle more. CAN I BUY A STRETCH PLAY!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, 1st down: Run up middle. Second down: 2 yard pass/draw. 3rd down: long pass. 4th down: Punt. After game, blame players for not tackling.

I should have gone on Halloween as Riley; I have my impersonation down perfectly.

  24. Touchdown Beavers. Can the Beavers pull this one off? Btw, Mannion has outplayed Luck. He’s really only made 1 bad throw.

    • Yeah, we suck, in the ball game in the fourth when even the diehards were predicting blowout. Criticize the coaches if you want, but this team is going to come together. They also have the talent to beat anyone in the Pac-12.
