  1. Moreland a beast in the first half. Berto, Starks nothing from the outside and Cunningham taking a beating in the paint. Ross keeping dawgs in the game and it’s 31 all at the half.

  2. Difference between this game being tied and a double digit Beavers lead is awful free throw shooting by the Beavers and them not being strong in the paint and finishing.

    • Seriously. During this off season I hope CR makes them shoot FTs until they can make them in their sleep. Our FT shooting this whole season has been ridiculous.

      • It’s the usual suspects. The rest of the team is okay-really good at the line but Collier and Moreland are usually guys who have the bad nights at the FT line. They will need to get better. They have good free throw strokes, should be a lot better.

  3. Pac12 officials are awful. They call it real tight for the first 15 minutes and then let players get mauled with out a call for the last 5 minutes of the half. They aren’t doing either team any favors.

  4. These refs are terrible. Cunningham has been laid onto the floor about 2-3 times and no foul. The fuskies are getting getting a lot of the calls and it might be cause we fans got a free aluminum water bottle with a caribeaner inside and used it as a noise maker and it passed off the refs. That’s all I got so far.

  5. Lol refs are trying to clean up a spilled pop from the last play where Collier threw the ball out of bounds with Starks trying to go after it. Fans are cheering and booing.

  6. If the Beavers lose the foul line will be at fault. Huskies have done a much better job at the free throw line. Also, the Beavers have got nothing from Nelson and Barton today on the offensive end. Frustrating.

  7. Seems like CR can recruit, but not coach, Riley can’t do either. Pat Casey and wrestling the only sports that do both?

When does the “president’s brother in-law” effect wear off?

    • Craig was not even close to being the problem. Guys didn’t make foul shots and Collier had been improving there but today had a really bad day there. Big guys didn’t execute on defense late. I don’t blame Craig at all for this loss.

    • It will never wear off. Pres Clinton is as popular as ever and President Obama will be just as popular as an ex-President as he is now. CR will get his brother-in-law to come to Corvallis so the president remains a good recruiting tool.

  8. Beaver big guys yet again didn’t get the job done. Collier and Brandt had a good day shooting from the field but Collier and Moreland were bad at the free throw line and Moreland and Burton blew key defensive assignments late. Frustrating how close they were to a big win but little things weren’t executed and that was the difference.

  9. I’ve been on Starks case for a while but he had a nice game this afternoon. Decent but not great shooting and had 7 boards, 4 assists to 1 turnover and 3 steals. Nelson being a no-show (0-6 from the field) hurt. Nice to see Burton with 8 minutes. FT shooting improved in the second half (12-14) and if they would’ve shot that well in the first half…

And to answer a previous post, I think Bow Down feels pretty good right now, unfortunately.

  10. it’s also just bad fundamentals, throwing the outlet pass behind the guard, poor passes in the lane, no movement on offense, not knowing when to go for the block and when to keep your defensive assignments. They waste so many opportunities. That is coaching.

  11. Hey Angry,

We (there are 3 of us) would like to apologize for almost pissing you off. You were never the target.

We have been spending a few days with a good friend of ours who is a beaver. He has posted on your blog for a long time and was telling us about Jack. It was decided to play a little game with him where one of us would take a turn posting something to try to get Jack to respond. Since Jack is supposedly known for exaggerating, over embellishing and sometimes just making stuff up, points were awarded based on the type of response that Jack gave.
It was an inside job, but basically Jack got punked. It was just too easy.
We had our laughs and we are through.

We attended the game today which was more of a struggle than predicted. We will give your team some credit for hanging in there. Now we are headed out of here to Arizona for spring training. After 3 weeks of spring training we are going to LA for the last UW series with UCLA and USC. At this point we are planning on staying for the Pac-12 tourney.
If we do, maybe we can actually meet you, if you are not too upset, at one of the games for a beer. Our beaver friend will let you know our final plans.
Thanks for hosting this site, we can see how it can be fun for many people. Since some of your posters seem to border on neurotic, maybe you should post “this site for entertainment purposes only”.

P.S. Some of your bloggers do appear to have some issues.
GMAN seems to be homophobic from his “Q” response and KBEAV is paranoid of duck trolls. You probably already knew that. We happen to think diversity is important and has great value, so why those guys get so upset does leave one to wonder.

P.S.S. We spent all day Saturday racing on the Oregon Sand Dunes near Florence, if you have not done this, it is a must!

    Take care,
    the gang of Bow Down

    • I wouldn’t say they “Should have won” Washington is pretty good, give them some credit for getting the job done. They were horrible against Oregon, they played much better today and hit some big shots when they needed to have them. Beavers definitely could have won but didn’t execute the things they needed to execute and fell short.

      • Both teams were bad. Beavs just made more mistakes down the stretch. Gaddy’s 14 bounce trey near the end followed by Angus’ pass to their defense was pretty much the end.

  12. Not much to say, it never seems like it’s a Beav player that hits a huge shot when it counts. I had really high hopes for this team. I don’t think there is another team that has a talent advantage on this team, but many have an intelligence advantage and it shows.

    • Their concentration level needs to be higher, they play nonchalantly, for too long of periods. That is coaching, the coach needs to keep the entire team engaged and knowing their assignments. I have not seen practice but it would be my guess that is how they practice as well. This team has lacked that Leadership to check the teamates into working hard for 40 minutes at a time. If your not getting touches on one end you should be concentrating on shutting down your opponent on defense and getting the rebound.

For example, UW shoots a three in front of their bench and Brandt runs out at him, but its a clear look and the shot is short, but Brandt doesn’t block out instead ends up off the court and leaves the Huskie to easily gather the rebound and put up a second shot for an easy deuce. Another hustle play Brandt grabs the rebound falling out of bounds blindly throughs it behind him right at the UW player who is there to jam it.

Starks hits the big three from the top of the key, and then we get a stop and we come back down and JC gets the ball on the wing and passes it back to Starks who puts up another long three that misses. Coach has got to realize he needs to call a play for JC there, and JC has to understand he needs to be selfish and drive the ball to the basket that either draws a foul, or draws defenders to him at which point a kick out back to Starks is much better than just sitting beyond the arch and passing it to each other. This team lacks that knowledge of game time situations. They look unprepared for certain situations, and it looks like it could be a lack of practice or work on fundamentals. I think they could use some more structured offensive sets.

      • It’s funny….I was thinking the same thing on that Brandt non block out play (and granted Brandt finally showed some offense), but I also think it’s interesting that announcers don’t pay much attention to fundamentals anymore either as neither one mentioned that Brandt flying by the shooter like a maniac instead of blocking out led to a crucial bucket for the Huskies.

And to your point about concentration, I have yet to see another team who misses so many inside three point opportunities. Just because you are fouled doesn’t mean you can’t make the shot. It also hurts because Collier, Brandt and especially Moreland are not good foul shooters.

        • I wasn’t picking on Brandt either (I just can’t recall the specific plays), the WHOLE team does similiar things, Moreland had a similiar type of play, Collier and Burton makes passes that look like the game hasn’t “slowed down” to them or the guards will dribble off their leg. We have seen all season. JC had a baseline drive that the defender trying to take a charge fell down and he just kept dribbling the ball out of bounds when he could’ve either slashed to the key or just pulled up for an uncontested jumper.

Coach took all the blame afterward, but he did acknowledge the team’s effort, which I agree was there, they do play hard (except WSU or Colorado) they just dont play smart or soundly. Coach blames the youth, I can give him a little bit of pass there because they are young, however other teams have youth too and they don’t make the same mistakes and it would seem to think they would show signs of improvement as the season goes, but they haven’t.

          • Yes, the effort was definitely there, but I think CR is playing a fools game to blame youth. The only Freshmen that play are Moreland (who is a redshirt) and Barton and they are going on their 26th game. This is actually getting to be a veteran team by D-1 standards.

          • What other teams are as young as the Beavs? I hesitate to allow that kind of excuse as well, but there are not a lot of teams in the country as young as we are, let alone the Pac.

    • It’s frustrating because you’d think that with the way Cunningham can drive the ball that the offense against zones would be designed for penetration and kick outs. I’m old enough to remember Payton driving and then kicking out to Eric Knox who would be spotting up right behind the line (not five feet behind the arc like Starks).

I just don’t think this slip screen stuff at the top of the key is that effective and it seems pretty easy to defend. To make matters worse, the Beavs don’t have a traditional spot up three point shooter, I thought that would be Murphy’s role, but apparently he’s not ready yet. Starks is too short, Nelson has that funky set shot and Cunningham is getting better, but he’s still a slasher. I think it’s a missing piece right now.

      • Nobody in this conference is afraid of our shooters. Outside of 20 feet Starks and Cunningham, and Roberto twice during the game, and then he disappears. 10-15 feet out expect nobody in this conference to be afraid.

    • I agree, however the free throws were basically even. Both teams missed ten, UW had 6 more because we were fouling at the end. Your point is a good one, make free throws and be up by three possessions going into the second half gives you momentum. That goes back to the same lack of concentration that we have seen throughout this season. Discipline is not there.

  13. We are that chronic underachieving team. I think that is our lot under CR. Guy is a great recruiter but an average (at best coach) who allows his team to suffer mental lapses and have so-so fundamentals. I think we got a couple guys who are dark horses for an NBA roster, problem is we can’t translate that to wins at this level…

  14. was at this game and its a sad sickening feeling when the game is tied with 2:00 minutes to play and you are thinking “well we aren’t going to pull this one out” because you know we can’t win a close game all season.

discipline and well executed set plays are the key mising ingredients.

Starks wasn’t terrible today and Roberto did nothing to press him for more playing time with poor shooting and a lackluster defensive effort. Barton too.

    • I agree. They came across as satisfied that they hung with UW, and just lost by three. Its disappointing that the team still is happy with “moral” victories.

Also, I’m tired of hearing of how young this team is. They aren’t. Most have 2-3 years D-1 play now, and should be considered seasoned if not a veteran team.

Painfully, I’m forced to admit these guys are just a very average team, and I’m not sure another year experience is going to make much of a difference. We should see it by now.

    • in his post game radio interview with parker robinson seemed borderline happy. its the first time i was flat out disappointed with his stance on a game. couldn’t help but think about the notion that a lot have put out there on this site that bdc and whoever else have such low performance demands that a loss like this one (good team, close game) doesn’t have to rip him up the way it should have. he didn’t even mention the atrocious first half free throw shooting, burton and nelson’s awful games, the several turnovers in transition, etc. or really anything that they as a team did that kept them from winning, almost like implying washington’s just too damn good or something.

      • I mentioned in a previous thread that I think CR coddles and pampers this team like they are five true freshmen. It’s getting on my nerves. There is still time for redemption results-wise, but if it doesn’t turn around I hope BDC is ready and willing to sit down with Craig and let him know finishing in the lower division of this season’s P-12 is not acceptable.

  15. I vote that OSU fans get behind the women’s basketball team. Currently the team is in 3rd place. They have Stanford @ home this Thursday….HUGE GAME. Love to see this team get the appreciation and recognition it deserves. The past 4 weeks have been impressive.

Scott Rueck for Pac 12 coach of the year. Keep it up girls!

    • Based on his dogged defense of CR, I assume that he’s been tapped to join Pres Obama’s Truth Squad and he’s just too busy defending the Pres’s budget proposal.

      • Pettiboner!! Pettiboner!! Relax!! Steve is probably correct. Being that he is Craig’s #1 supporter this has to be a very difficult time for him. He’ll bounce back.

        • Give Jack a minute to compose himself. Swallowing the bait can not be easy. He will be back with a vengeance, Mark his words!
Actually he is probably off doing some undercover work for the CIA which is taking up all of the bandwidth on his computers.
Jack, thanks for keeping the country and OSU safe from terrorists, the Tea Party, Husky trolls, Martha Stewart, John Stewart, and lead paint.

      • What in the world are you babbling about now? You can probably check your lunacy at the door, and be sure to not check your reading comprehension.

You pick out the passages, write them verabatim, and i shall define each word if you’re too lazy to do so.

Dogged defense my ass. It only seems that way because any defense in the face of your irrational thoughts seems complete.

And even if I don’t support Obama’s corporate giveaways or his three-year capitulation to GOP idiocies, I can tell you what almost all of the vitriol spent on him is about.

        Don’t be a shit balloon.

  16. Most people have Jorge Guiterrez and Jared Cunningham currently leading the race for Pac-12 POY. This factors in somewhat the belief that Tony Wroten and Terrence Ross cancel eachother out too much for either to be the likely winner. I compared stats and Jared is blowing away Jorge in the categories the Pac-12 has always valued most.

    • BB, I think that there is a good strong case for Cunningham but you have to wonder how much his playing on a losing team will come into play versus Guiterrez playing on potentially the conference championship team. Seems like those factors weigh in when it comes to MVP type voting.

  17. I just got an email (that’s right, Monday) advertising the WSU and UW games from this past weekend. “There’s only one cure for Beaver Fever. More Basketball.”

      • Are you sure it was for last week? Maybe after dropping both games they are anticipating a sell-out next year. Get your 2013 tickets while they last! Our stellar marketing whizzes wouldn’t make such an amateurish mistake. (Would they?) JB

    • I got one on Saturday for ticket purchases for the Pac 12 Tourney. And I got two yesterday for Friday’s gymnastics and Saturday’s womens hoops game.

Sending one for last week’s hoops games would be brilliant.
