Maybe we should create an AngryBeavs drinking game to make basketball more interesting.
1shot every time "sucks", "fire", "horrible", or "game over" appears in the comments.
2 shots for every decapitating Joe Burton pass/turnover or Craig Robinson frown.
3 shots each time BeavitorNot misuses ad hominem.
Chug chug chug when we start discussing Jack's (unusually large) can opener collection rather than the game.
Who's in?
Trying to kill us?
It’s discouraging that we’re not even worthy of an appearance from Bow Down to Washington. :(
angry you all bowed up and fixin’ a larking but it sounds better than cleanin’ the possum pie in my pants.
Blog/comments have been nigh unreadable for several days now. I can only hope the majority of you jackasses keep your drivel away from this post so I can complain about basketball in peace.
Could also add a rule to drink for every time a commentator compares Burton to one or more of the NBA Hall of Famers. Have heard comparisons to Magic, Barkley, Shaq, Kareem (sky hook? really?). Who am i missing?
or when they call him “old school”
Just call him fat and be done with it. He has the exact same body he came here with.
chris dudley
4 drinks everytime “nigh” appears.
sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over…. sucks…..fire….horrible….game over….
Are you buying?
hrd?
How do you get such a great can opener collection in a podunk town like Corvallis???
…. oh, wait, he lives in Eugene.
We could start a pool on such things as how much we lose by, how many Burton turnovers….
Then at least someone would win.
It’s almost impossible to get good can openers in Corvallis. Eugene has much better facilities.
How come Beavergopher is missing the easy double entendre about “cans.”?
Angry’s on a roll!!!!!
You forgot the presidential references. Fresh off the inaugural, in his Princeton scarf, it will be a much bigger deal.
Given DVR probation I can’t start watching until 9:30. The -20 rule might kick-in and allow me to get to bed on time. JB
You should start a thread ad hoc so we can discuss Beavitornot’s errant ‘ad hominem’ use.
BB is interesting enough…I’m starting my grad thesis on “the myriad ways of losing Basketball games”
Don’t laugh, in my Tech Report class I wrote about “the viability of the Veer offense”. Got a pretty good grade, but then one of my football buddies used it for his paper….never saw it again.
Where were you when I needed you? JB
I’m a Avezzano boy…sorry JB
Now that I think about it…Singler might be the culprit.
It’s all the rage
That’s it, I am buying everyone here dictionaries.
Dare I ask…..what is a here dictionary?
He just forgot the comma after “here.”
Sweet Jesus I hope this is a joke.
Comeon, man. loosen up….
Beavit, rsteve is right, loosen up. I never even noticed any use of ‘ad hominem’, I just piled on for fun.
I’ve been the butt of many jokes on here and granted sometimes it’s hard to tell when someone is just kidding or if they’re being mean and insulting. In this case, I think people are just bored and having fun.
My initial remark was a joke. I had hoped RSteve’s remark was a joke too, but feared he thought I had punctuated my sentence incorrectly. My prior dealings with RSteve have been discouraging.
Plenty loose. I assumed the “ad hominem” thing was a joke as well. I was not upset or whatever the opposite of loose is.
OMG, these random -1 votes for benign comments are hilarious! Whoever the masked poster is that injects these really makes me laugh because they just come out of nowhere!
It’s amazing how easily I can be entertained on a slow sports day.
You can ask for them every once in a while for fun. Actively and openly manipulating people on the net is funnier than doing it passively.
Jesus has a sweet flavor? I would have guessed he was more umami and/or salty the way some people talk about him.
I can already tell this is going to be a fun day.
If hell existed, you would’ve just taken another step closer to entering it with that comment.
Yes, I know.
I guess I’ll just have to go down in history as the one responsible for the fall of the empire instead.
One shot every time BeavIt jut nails it. LET IT RAIN!
OK R Steve: I’m game…
Burton Assists: over/under 4.5
Burton T/O: over/under 3.5
I’ll be the homer…over on assists, over on TO’s
assists: under
turnovers: over
I think his assist to turnover ratio for the year is right around 1:1.
It was 54 or 55 to 50 before tonight.
Looks like it was under and under for Joe
That’s where the mean was… 3.05 and 2.78 respectively.
Three assists to two turnovers which coincides with his average for the year. My numbers that I set were to increase dialogue on the board specifically addressing the topic at hand..
OT: Looking at some Senior Bowl Blogs…Wheaton doing well. Here’s one from the NY Times:
Oregon State wide receiver Markus Wheaton continues to prove that he’s one of the two best perimeter weapons in Mobile this week. In one series of drills versus cornerbacks, Wheaton got into an exchange with Washington cornerback Desmond Trufant, baiting the defender to cut in line to face Wheaton on a rep. Wheaton blew by Trufant for a deep reception up the right flat.
Play Daniel Jones!
How many S. Kemp Jr’s are out there? Must be the first of many.
better question is how exactly did Shawn Kemp senior manage to impregnate like 50 women? Dude is one fugly ass yard ape. Must own stock in roofies or chloroform.
What’s with all the casual racism being thrown around in here lately? You’d think this was an SEC school’s blog.
Is there such a thing as “casual” racism?
I’ll shut up now.
I think that means it’s delivered without the starched white hood.
guess it depends on the dictionary you choose.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Casual%20Racism
Oh… so if you’re kickin’ it with your friends on your porch couch or in your lawn car, then it’s casual?
but put on a polo shirt and it will become smart casual
I don’t even want to know what that makes casual Fridays.
outstanding!
This is unacceptable. What an ignorant shitty comment. Your racist crap doesn’t belong here.
How is talking about Kemp racist? No one called him the N word… What am I missing here?
try reading
What is Wiskey Soaked Napkins trying to say by calling him “one fugly ass yard ape”? Is that not extemely racisit?
You are missing a lot. You don’t have to drop the N word to be racist. Yikes.
Yeah. I was a bit taken aback when I saw that comment too. I was trying to poke fun at Kemp knowing he has like 13 kids, but legitimately am curious to know how many potential Kemp Ballers will be coming out of the Seattle area?
Would have been better for the Beavs if GP would have made a mad unprotected tear through the ladies though.
Since we’ve nothing better to discuss…
“yard ape” is the racist comment in question here? I heard that term a million times while growing up in the 70’s and it was always in reference to kids. In fact it was always in reference to white kids like me since there was only 1-2 black families in my entire school.
“You yard apes go play outside!!” or “They just got married a few years ago and they already have 3 yard apes running around.”
I guess in my naive world calling a black man could be construed as racist but that certainly wasn’t my first thought.
I have an aunt who wrote a couple books with a character named Yard Ape. So I know where you’re coming from. But the term has devolved since her generation (she’s 96 now) in popular culture. And it has dual meanings depending on what region of the country you find yourself (she’s also from Oregon).
I think the age of innocence expired on this one when Howard Cosell was fired for calling Art Monk a little monkey. Cosell was good friends with the younger Monk, and he explained that’s what he called his grandchildren (and his own children when they were young) when they were raucous.
Alvin Garrett. Art Monk was 6’3 or 6’4. He would have had to say he was a tall monkey if it was Art Monk. A travesty of the first order. If there was someone who was not a racist, it was Howard Cosell. The PC crowd run amok.
Yeah, Art Monk was a graceful WR, Alvin was the pesky scatback……wait I’m thinking scatback is notlonger an acceptable term either.
Something tells me WhiskeyNapkin wasn’t comparing Shawn Kemp to kids playing around outside in the yard.
What it amounts to, is that if you ARE racist, then you cant tolerate innocent comments. Racism is in your mind. If you actually see the races as distinct from one another, rather than just all as humans, then you react to such comments. If you arent racist, then it doesnt register.
You should teach a Philosophy class. Philosophy 503-The World According to rSteve
Are you serious rsteve?
Is that a FACT or just your OPINION?
Kidding. But seriously, you are real dumb.
I’m gonna side more with Rsteve than you guys on his comment; at least I see where he’s coming from. His point is exactly what I had said about my response to ‘yard apes’. Never thought it was racist until you guys pointed it out.
Do people have to filter and proofread everything they say just to make sure it’s not racist, or could be wrongly construed as racist? Not me. This doesn’t mean I can’t say some stupid things from time to time (shup JB!) but I don’t consider any race superior to any other race so if someone thinks I’ve said something racist then the burden is on them.
In the case of ‘yard apes’, I guess I could see it being racist if you buy into the whole blacks-monkeys nonsense.
Regardless, I am wiser now and my IQ has bumped back up that 2 points I lost after the can opener discussion.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=yard%20ape
Again, I don’t think there is any doubt Napkin was not calling Shawn Kemp Sr. a raucous child. I think it’s rather clear he meant it the way depicted in the definitions included in the link above.
If it was unintentional and a proofread would’ve caught it, that’s one thing. I think he knew what he was saying (judging by the context and the fact that his name pokes fun at Mike Parker’s alcoholism and unfortunate late-night meal at Denny’s (not that that is racist, but it denotes a tendency toward the irreverent).
I agree, f**k walking around on pins and needles worried about the color of somebody. Stop being afraid, you have nothing to apologize for.
good lord. I’ve heard it both ways. Some of you seriously should lighten up. It’s a fucking internet message board. And for the record I am not racist. I hate everyone equally. But in this case it’s ok. I’m taking it back :)
Who is this team? Moving without the ball? Pushing the ball up the court? No flat-footed defense? Penetrate and kick?
It’s amazing what effort can do.
who is this team and what have they done with the real beavers? I’m sure they’ll find a way to fuck it up in the 2nd half though.
Looks like they didn’t fuck it up
yup. Shocked but glad they finally got the W
If this comes down to coaching decisions the Beavs lose.
I must’ve missed the inside joke about Jack’s can opener. Can someone fill me in?
It was just a side discussion that tacked about four times and landed on the quality of can openers and which ones might be best for purchasing in the future.
Nice win by our Beavs.
Good effort tonight. Guys were diving on the floor for loose balls and competing on both ends. Washington made their rally but the Beavers never let them tie it up or take the lead and pulled away. Good to see some mental toughness out there. I feel like they found themselves in the 2nd half against USC, just made a couple mistakes to prevent them from winning. But they’ve really played hard and gave 100% effort ever since. Now they can’t let a let down happen against the Cougars. Another must win, give the same effort and they get conference win #2.
The very best part of that game was that we know Kevin Brill will not be the ref for the Wazzu game.
Holy shit is that dude a horrible ref. And he just seems to get worse.
any day the beavs beat the hussies is a good day in my book
Ok….question. What in y;alls opinion gave rise to this W?
Was it coaching finally getting thru…..or the players deciding, fuck the coach, lets play to win?
….a Hillary Clinton pep talk on speaker phone?
Robinson was afraid we’d make a petition about him.
They were definitely more deliberate on offense, which I think is coaching. There was also more effort, which is more on the players and guys stepping into leadership roles.
They found a can opener.
CR should leave the team before every game. Get him some frequent flier tickets to DC!
Hey – that was my line.
Great minds? Perhaps the MT connection?
Happy with the result. This was a good article that I found on the Barometer web site yesterday. http://www.dailybarometer.com/mobile/column-evaluating-craig-robinson-1.2974951
Wait till next year! The refrain of all losing programs everywhere. They should drug test Nelson for the top 25 comment.
That’s just a 20-something kid talking. Truth is the team should be better next year barring any injuries, non-qualifiers, suspensions, etc. I do agree with you that CR should go to DC more often as it seems to help the team!
He’s not wrong. That’s the expectation I have of this team next year, and I’ll be disappointed if they don’t at least come close.
Take this year’s team. Add experience, strength, development to everyone on the roster. Add Brandt and Gomis. Add Cooke and N’Diaye. Subtract Burton.
I think talk of anything less than being ranked is wrong. I’m not saying get excited for it. But I am saying that’s where we should be. If reality doesn’t match those expectations, then we have to get serious about making reality match those expectations.
I kind of have the notion, or at least hope, that CR may develop as a coach. Jared leaving and Brandt getting injured gets CR some slack for this year, from me.
Even CR knows the temperature. The linked Barometer article has a quote from him which pretty much says he’s aware that his job is measured in wins and losses, nothing more.
Absolutely Jack. I don’t think losing Burton will hurt, but they should be much better and from the tone of the Barometer article, that’s where the team and coaches expect. I still think getting some new staff will help.

Can’t wait for Baseball to start. Hope DirectTV picks up Pac12 Net by then….
Baseball America has released their pre-season top 25 list. OSU at #6
http://ht.ly/h6sHH
Seems a little high. I’d say 12.
Are you thinking that’s because we’re without Fry? I think the consensus was that we were likely a favorite to get a national seed and to go on to the CWS. But that was before Fry went down.
It’s partially that, but I’m more concerned about middle relief. There are some good arms in the pipeline, but unsure how they will pan out. Wish they had more team speed, too. The less speed, the more they’ll have to rely on clutch hits, which they haven’t been very good at lately…
I think this team is going to hit for a lot of power this season, that will make up for a lot of the speed, don’t think they’ll have to rely on clutch hitting as much as you think, but they’ll need it some like all teams do. I think the ranking is fine. They’ll be top 5 come regionals
What happened to Fry?
Tommy John surgery after last season, probably is out for the season.
Luck O the Beavs. Damn.
#6 might be a little high right now given the question marks but if they can improve at middle relief and closer they definitely have top 5 potential. Anyone know who is going to replace Lees as 3rd base coach?
Can you guys take the yard ape talk to a kkk forum?
A casual one?
Robby Boydstun ?@RBoydstun_educk
Keishawn Bierria confirms visit to Oregon and says he expects an in-home from Ducks coaches early next week. http://oregon.scout.com/2/1260693.html
Like I said, we are the backup plan.
Is Adam Duke gone?
yes. he is no longer on the roster.
Reason?
IIRC he left to go home to deal with a family issue and did not return. His name is not on the roster for the 2013 season.
Sounds like there’s a chance Kyle Kempt won’t make his official visit:
Kyle Kempt ?@KyleKempt
Rushing onto the plane cuz we got a 20 minute window to get the hell out of a ohio or we’re stuck
Kyle Kempt ?@KyleKempt
Flight delayed, I really hate ohio weather
Update: “Corvallis here I come”
Hopefully he does not watch CFB Live. Beavs make the show…….Mannion(twice) and Vaz getting laid out by UCLA and ASU respectively. The Vaz hit was brutal. Followed latter in the show with Ducks running wild in the CW.
FootballScoop Staff FootballScoop Staff ?@footballscoop
At Oregon, sources tell us Helfrich has targeted Duke receivers coach Matt Lubick and that a deal is close… http://www.footballscoop.com/the-scoop
Lubick and the Duke receivers had a great season this year. This could be a nice hire for the Ducks. Good coach and good recruiter. Makes me think Oregon will look to pass more than run next year, with Helfrich running things.
I think he should change everything.
OT: reading a Mark Helfrich interview on ESPN (first one I’ve seen):
Q: I know a lot has been made about the play-calling. For you, is it more important to establish the play-calling pecking order, so to speak, or is it more about the collaboration and process?
MH: It’s definitely a process. That’s the neat deal about all of this.
That’s a pretty egregious usage: has Riley met his Mayberry match???
can’t believe we didn’t see this already. He’s going for the same hairstyle as Riley too, just a few years behind.
http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2013/0101/ncf_u_mhelfrich_ps_200.jpg
What is his gum chewing status?
I will be watching to see if he starts to slouch slightly when he walks and if he dresses during October home games like he’s coaching the International Falls high school team in December.
You just brought up IF for a jest. It makes zero sense, but you go guy.
At least go somewhere real… like Warroad.
Riley usually dresses on the sidelines like it’s about 15 degrees colder than it is. Sorry if my “jest” was not clear!
Over my head the first time… now it makes sense.
Chip went fairly “minimalistic” against the Willamette Valley fall elements. It will be funny if Helfrich dons the full winter jacket and stocking cap like MR!
I will be watching to see if he starts to slouch slightly when he walks and if he dresses during October home games like he’s coaching the Moab high school team in December.
Moab is beautiful in October/November, but I’ve never been there in December. Got caught in a snow storm on the way back home to Salt Lake a couple of times.
I was there in September…very nice. After a while I got sick of all the clay/brick/red in Utah, though. Also…weird people.
Hi there I am so happy I found your blog, I really found you
by error, while I was browsing on Bing for something else, Regardless I am here now and
would just like to say thanks for a tremendous post and a all
round exciting blog (I also love the theme/design), I don’t have time to read it all at the minute but I have book-marked it and also included your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read much more, Please do keep up the awesome work.
