I upgraded my laptop (after six years!) yesterday. 1900×1200 hd screen. Gotta say, watching the tourny on this thing is a pleasure.
true–we be making the big dance. (and I’m 54)
I begrudging agree.
We have to eventually right? The stars eventually line up for a team once in a while. It’s too had that two of our major sports teams have each had their own terrible streaks for 2+ decades.
ask Northwestern
Making the tourney is one thing, Oregon is in their second in 6 years? How about the Beavers winning the tourney in our lifetime? How about a football championship? I’m 57, and have some realatives that reached 100. So, for me they have 43 years at the most. Got to beleive they will do both in 43 years.
True.
Bye Valpo. It was nice having you on my TV.
Butler can’t buy a shot right now. But they’re about to blow Bucknell out.
Depends on how long you plan to live. I’m 35, so I fully expect to see them in the tournament SOME day.
To add to that question, which do you think will happen first? Beavers in the Rose bowl? or Beavers in the NCAA tournament?
NCAA tournament has happened much more recently than a Rose bowl.
Yes but only after the tourney expands to 128 teams
They have to make it within the next 10 years right? 42% of our conference made it to the tournament this year.
Rose Bowl??? maybe
The first time we’re good enough to go to the RB, we’re going to screw it up by being one of the top four teams and have to play in the new plus-1 format when the RB isn’t one of the two plus-1 bowls. We’ll have to do something like play Florida in the Orange Bowl. I’ve made the flight from PDX to FLL a couple times. I don’t look forward to doing that again.
I have trouble sleeping on planes. PDX to ORD or IAH is about all I’m good for before I am ready to start hitting people.
Flew direct from PDX to Amsterdam (and back) this past summer. Around 12 hours each way. After that, Florida doesn’t seem so bad.
Sounds like a fun trip.
Never got to spend any time in Amsterdam. Just an hour in customs before hopping on a 3 hour flight to Italy. Amsterdam airport makes you wish you were at LAX. It SUCKS waiting for their security checkpoints. There’s no line. Just a mob of people all pushing their way to the front, only to have snooty Dutch dudes harass you and make you unpack your bags in front of everybody. Nearly missed my connecting flight both directions.
With the non-stop to Amsterdam, that flight is around 10 hours now. No non-stops to Miami means 9 hours of travel with stops and lay-overs. It is about one-third the price though.
Yep, done that one before too. PDX to DAL to ATL to Ft Lauderdale I believe. Not fun at all either.
Still prefer the domestic flight if only for avoiding the customs clusterfuck.
Every time I go through Atlanta, the damn airport is under some sort of construction. So the concourses are cut in half by long plywood walls.
My first time there I didn’t realize the importance of the tram for getting you through the airport faster. Thinking it couldn’t be THAT big, I decided to just walk from my terminal to the MARTA (Atlanta’s high speed rail)station. About an hour later I was finally on the MARTA. PDX just seems so tiny and perfect when compared to the small city called ATL.
It’s funny when you arrive back in Portland sometimes after visiting some of the larger airports. There’s good food, people are laid back, there’s nice music playing in the background. PDX really is one of the nicer airports I’ve spent time in.
And you’re no more than a 10 minute stroll from any one gate if you ever have to transfer… and you stop to do some window shopping.
The worst was Stapleton. I swear they were picking on me way back when I would have to run from the end of the B concourse always to the end of the D or E concourses. DIA is so much nicer in both layout, convenience and amenities.
Here’s one for you. I’ve been to both airports at Toronto, and the bigger one is nice. But the Island Airport next to downtown is just a cool little airport.
If Memphis is going to get these calls for the whole tourney, I’m going to have to re-work my bracket to have them win it all. Refs completely took St Mary’s out of the game.
Anybody care to share their bracket? It’s a little late, we should have had an Angrybeavs bracket challenge. winner gets endless popcorn? Maybe we can try this in the next round if enough people are interested?

Pretty much the same as blazer’s except I have CU over Illinois, Ole Miss over Wiscy, Cincy over Creighton, UCLA over Minny and Davidson over Marquette.
I used “showing vs. OSU” as a litmus test for some of my picks. I couldn’t pick Colorado after seeing them let OSU hang with them in the 1st round of the Pac 12 tournament (and losing to OSU a week earlier) I also have Kansas eventually losing to Michigan in the Sweet 16, simply because they let OSU hang with them earlier in the year.
Would have gone with UCLA, but that injury to Jordan Adams will hurt them big time, otherwise I’d have them moving on.
Davidson just got screwed.
Davidson with the choke
That wasn’t their fault. The no call on the hack was wrong. Buzz Williams would have had a fit if the Davidson player saved that ball. He was calling for the obvious foul on the passing end of the play.
Oklahoma State has been atrocious. Don’t see them coming back.
I don’t know how they got a 5 seed. This is the second game I’ve watched of them with their loss to KSU being the other game. It’s not like Nikegon is doing anything special. They’re sucking at everything also except FT%.
Both teams shooting about the same from the field, Oregon is just crushing Ok State on the boards and making slightly more free throws. Hasn’t been a very entertaining game. Oregon might struggle to score 50 against Saint Louis.
I can’t wait to see Woods pull his cheap crap against them. StL just does not take that kind of play from anyone, and they rarely get calls against them.
St. WILL beat the Ducks. They’re talented, have a good coach and system and are going to want to win for Majerus.
Gag. Ducks win. On a positive note, get to see their cheerleaders in HD again.
Wish we had a real coach.
Leave it to 0regon to give my bracket its first blemish.
me too. that’s what i get for making the “emotional” choice on that game. I don’t really have a favorite for any of the others, with the exception of Duke since my wife is an alum. I’ve actually got them going all the way, which doesn’t seem to be a popular choice with anyone. Hope to see them meet up with St. Louis in the semis.
Same here. Duke all the way. I usually pick Oregon when it comes to these type of things that way if they I can be happy they helped me. and if they lose, then I get the satisfaction of them loosing. I don’t know why I got away from that this year.
I bought it fully expecting them to win. I just wasn’t going to pick them no matter what since I didn’t expect either of these two teams to advance beyond Saturday. So they’re an intentional blemish on both my brackets. One bracket I pick the favorites for the first round according to Vegas lines unless I really don’t like the line. oSu (-3), UCLA (+3) and Creighton (-3) are the only games I would have changed as straight up picks (except I didn’t for oSu). Marquette (-4) and Wisconsin (-5) are games I would take the spread but not the SU pick against the line.
I’m not sure why people are hyping Bucknell and Belmont. I’ll take UA (-4) and Butler (-3.5) all day.
They’re good. I took them as a sleeper winning two games.
They’re good?
They’re a smaller version of OSU. They don’t move on offense, and they have no defensive capabilities… as opposed to a small measure of length inside for the Beavs. If they played in the Pac, they would be able to keep their losses to within 20 points on most nights instead of 10.
Cal off to a hot start.
8/8 on picks so far.
Belmont looks to be my only terrible pick. Have UNVL, Louisville, Michigan in the other games.
Cal is looking to ruin your perfect day.
Pac-12 showing so far has been much better than I expected. CAL is up on UNLV. Oregon wins as the low seed, and Arizona won easily. Either people underrated the Pac, or the Pac-12 teams are turning it up a few notches today.
UNLV losing wasn’t going to be a shock. Bad team away from Vegas. Having same issues away from Vegas today as they have all year. Extremely poor shot selection and Dave Rice is a pretty mediocre coach. Doesn’t make adjustments.
Yeah, late games killed me.
7-8 so far.
I have Cal, Louisville, Arizona, Michigan for the slate of games going right now.
Have Michigan and Cal right now going for me although, I do like South Dakota St.’s HC Scott Nagy. Seems to be a good coach. I googled his salary at $150,000/year. Someone is going to pick him up soon I would think.
Boise State makes it to the NCAA tourney and BCS bowls and we can’t. Boise State.
Must be the taters.
that’s what…
she…

Monty strikes again!
He just used common sense on UNLV. Zone defenses gave UNLV problems this season cause Dave Rice has no idea how to make adjustments and it forces the two chuckers, Reinhardt and Jones to be patient which is something they aren’t. Instead, they want to shoot it as soon as they get the ball and then play crappy defense, shockingly it didn’t work out. If UNLV had a good coach who had guys flash to the elbow and play hi-low and dumped it down to Bennett that way, they would have won that game fairly easily. UNLV is a horribly coached team which is a shame with the amount of talent they had this season.
Beavs in 5th place after two sessions in the NCAA wrestling championships.
OT – link to the skills/agility clinic put on for Corvallis Boys/Girls Club by Beav FB. A different view of the intense Dylan Wynn; not a bit scary here!

Sweet!. Everybody wins. Might want to keep an eye on that little guy at 17-18 seconds. OL maybe.
With life extension technology that is being developed it remains an outside possibility that we could see Beavs in the tournament in our lifetime.
I guess we’ll have to wait until Obama’s out of office to get a decent coach though. There is not a chance that the president’s brother in law gets canned with him in office.
I agree. We are screwed.
Here comes stupid.
Am I also going to have to LMAO at a “pegged currency is better than the fiat scam we have now” conversation? Because I really love talking to people about how they think humans are greedy scum at heart, but de-regulation is always best… not that there has been any real regulation of financial markets in the last 30 years.
The president is too busy trying to take your guns and doesn’t have time to be concerned with Beav hoops.
No… he’s getting death panels together while picking out furniture for internment camps in Arkansas.
Although, I guess if he didn’t take your guns your fully automatic rifles would be useless against his drone strikes… and F-35’s.
Don’t get me started on F-35’s.
I am totally kicking butt in my CBI pool. Made some great picks! Will be cleaning up on payout day!! So what if there only three of us playing. JB
First track and field meet at the new facility is happening tomorrow. Looking at the webcam link, I don’t see any seating areas for the fans? Maybe they don’t plan to have any (fans)?
http://webcam.oregonstate.edu/trackfield/
http://www.kezi.com/osu-ready-to-host-first-meet-in-25-years/
You’re right, none of the accoutrements at the track facility yet. But it’s a world class surface.
I guess I’ve learned my lesson.
Don’t bet on the Mountain West to show up for the dance.
I got burned a couple years ago when SDSU had Kawhi Leonard and looked hot rolling into the tourney… then lost. I had that in mind when making out this year’s bracket. But I never figured UNM would lay an egg. I didn’t pick them to make the regional finals, but they are the only 16 pick out on both my brackets. Davidson is the other on one of my brackets.
And the Zonies get a walk into the 16 because of UNM. While they’re a lousy team, they have the talent to be dangerous as the tourney wears on. And the entitled find another reason to feel justified.
The other rule is to not bet against the A10… or apparently the Pac 12. Neither have lost yet, and La Salle (I have to admit I love them coming back for tradition’s sake… now we just need De Paul and OSU to do something) is pumping KSU while Temple knocks off NCSt. The Temple game was a push, and KSU impressed me enough for me to pick them to lose in the next round. But you still have to be impressed with how the A10 is playing ball.
Ole Miss was an easy pick. They’re hot and Wiscy is overrated. On top of that, Wiscy plays a style which will always allow lesser teams to be in games until they heat up. It’s designed so that they can stay in games where they’re overmatched, but it also works in the other direction. Regardless, I picked Ole Miss through to 16.
Will the Pac hold up with CU and UCLA?
Fun fact if you haven’t heard me say it before:
March Madness was first coined to describe the Illinois HS tourney back in the 1930’s. Brent Musberger spent time as a broadcaster in Illinois covering HS hoops and picked up on it.
When OSU lost to KSU in 1981, it completed a weekend when the top three ranked teams in the nation, De Paul, OSU and La Salle, were knocked out of the tourney. Musberger used the term March Madness while now covering NCAA hoops. And SI picked up on it and put it on their Monday cover (Blackmon’s shot… ugh).
And I guess that’s how you get to co-trademark a term with a state HS association.
Apparently KSU figured out they’re bigger than La Salle.
Go figure.
OT – Baylor seems to have received some uni’s that may have ended up in the Duck’s waste bin:

Colorado and Illinois have taken turns being inept offensively all game long
@KendallRogersPG 9m
Tough loss for #OregonState this weekend. Pat Casey told me versatile SS Tyler Smith will miss weekend with a hand injury. @Beaver_Baseball
Damn, that’s rough. Probably means Peterson slides over to SS, Keyes to 2B and Casper to 3B.
You’re being a bit rough on SDSU from a few years back. It was pretty obvious whoever won that game between Duke and SDSU was winning the Championship.
You mean UConn? SDSU hasn’t played Duke before in the NCAA Tournament, I believe.
