Cal's Mason throwing a lot of pitches, not likely to last much longer. He is throwing a lot of "stress" pitches, as mentioned earlier this week by Yeske, pitch count is one thing but is overshadowed by having to pitch when behind in the count or with runners on.
Mason gives up a leadoff walk to Hayes, has pitched about 63 so far.
And….he is gone. Replaced by another righty, a fireplug compared to the string bean Mason.
Hayes from first to third on an infield single which never got to the outfield grass, heads up baserunning.
One of the kinds of plays which the camera angle does a decent job.

update: watched 15 minutes–so boring. I couldn’t find anything to take away from what I saw…I guess reps for the young guys?
I'm going to watch it later and look for some younger players. Curious about these guys in particular. I haven’t read much about any of them but thought they had potential as recruits…

Not sure if anybody has linked to this yet, but Riley tweeted out a graph from an Emory Business college statistical study, which in essence was showing the rate at which college football programs were turning their 3* 4* and 5* recruits into NFL draft picks. Oregon State faired really well in the study, coming in 2nd in the nation behind Kentucky.

Bottom line is, the study is suggesting to recruits that going to a program without a huge amount of depth, but a decent sized operating budget is more beneficial than going to a top program where there is already depth but you might get more exposure.
I was listening to the topic on a sports talk radio show last night and they seemed to think a tool like this would really help OSU in recruiting, pointing to guys like Cooks and Seumalu who were top recruits benefiting from the early playing time they got here as freshman. It's interesting for a quick read at least.
It's cool to see, but that's not a sound stat at all. It's taking the total number of drafts generated by the school and comparing it to the number of high star recruits. If they were just comparing the number of high star recruits that got drafted then it would be fine, but using every player that is drafted regardless of the star rating they had coming out of high school skews the data towards schools that don't get a lot of star talent coming in. The fact that the ratio is over 1.0 for schools shows just how much an apples v. oranges comparison it is. If anything you can make the inference that OSU and UK are good at developing players or at finding diamonds in the rough, but their interpretation is just misleading.
But if it gets a few more five stars to sign with OSU, then i'm cool with that

Team has responded after the players only meeting following the UW debacle. They have been dominating at home. When they play solid good defense they are extremely tough to score on. The pitching ranked second in the NCAA in ERA is more than a strenth, it is a weapon. The offense has been coming around, it still could be better there is too much talent for it not to be. However, they are getting it done as of late hitting more up the middle. I look forward to the chance to sweep tomorrow.

From what I've seen the ucks lately are taking advantage of a lot of breaks in the form of WP's, HBP's, and opposition errors. I gues when your team does it its "great small ball and competitiveness" when the ucks do it, it simply seems like too much luck!
Good luck eventually runs out. Offense a little reliant on mistakes by opposition, in the postseason especially, the luck likely will run out.
I'm concerned that the ucks could ace out the Beavs for home field advantage in post season. Ucks RPI has really improved, and we can't count out Uncle Phil.
Taking care of business between now and the 17th is critical, as of course is a good showing by the Beavs in Eugene. One at a time!
They won't, Beavers have much stronger resume, but they both could get national seeds. As long as the Beavers take the Stanford and WSU series, they're a virtual lock for a national seed.
Ucks resume isn't too bad, I was surprised last week to see their RPI only a few notches below the Beavs.
RPI assigns higher value to wins on the road and losses at home; a perfect setup for the Beavs to gain some RPI separation in Eugene!
BTW, ucks get an unearned run in the 11th and sweep Cougs.

Great sweep by the Beavs. Need to finish strong against Stanford and Oregon in order to secure a national seed for the tournament. Anyone heard any more news about Fry? I wonder if he'll get to pitch against Portland on Wednesday.
Just noticed Fry pitched 0.1 innings today. I'm still wondering about him starting on Wednesday. If they have any hopes of him being a fourth starter during the tournament this seems like a good game for him to shake off some of the rust.
It would only be for a couple innings, needs to build up his arm strength.
I'm with GB on this one. Fry faced two batters today and got a GO and a BB. Any appearance Wednesday would likely be for no more than maybe 8 batters.
I expect several pitchers to be involved Wed., the pen hasn’t seen a lot of work lately and needs involvement to stay sharp. They’ll be needed as time goes on.
