Before getting into the game, I was wondering if anyone has 3 Civil War tickets they can part with–if so, shoot me an email. The lady and I are thinking about coming up (have a friend in Portland who wants to come, too), as I’ve never seen a game at Autzen.
Regarding Washington State. I watched them vs Stanford but missed the Cal game. Vs Standford Halliday looked bad, but his numbers vs Cal were incredible. I wish I saw the game so I could say if that’s due to Cal sucking or Halliday having a Matt Moore ’06 moment. What I saw vs Stanford was a guy who could move around a little, but had poor accuracy and timing. The reason I am focusing on Halliday is I think Saturday’s contest comes down to Washington State’s offense. I think their D will be okay (Eastern Washington had 6 ex-Cougars on their team, and we know what they did..). Deone Buchanan is a beast, and the D played with intensity even while being pushed around by Stanford. They won’t shut down OSU, but I think they hold them around 30 points. Can the Cougs score more than that vs our bad, but [possibly] improving, defense? I’d be curious to hear from those who watched the Cal game. Is Washington State for real? I didn’t see a pushover vs Stanford. The early forecast is rain on Saturday, so that might be a factor as well.
Oregon State 30, Washington State 28
Good luck finding 3 Civil War tickets. You’re gonna end up paying through the nose for those.
Haven’t seen WSU yet, but Cal’s defense is terrible, so not a huge surprise Halliday put up big numbers. Look at his numbers compared to Goff in the Cal game though. Goff actually had a better passing game statistically. Nearly the same total yards on 8 fewer attempts. I dont expect many rushing yards in this game, but I think OSU will gain over 100 yards with the starting O-line back as well as Storm to split reps with Ward. I think the QB who throws the least INTs wins the game. Halliday already has 10 on the season to Mannion’s 2 through pretty similar competition (excluding Stanford). Advantage Beavs.
CW tickets can be had for $150 each. Two years ago we walked up to the ticket office 30 minutes before kickoff and bought great seats, they aren’t sold out every year like everyone thinks.
Keep an eye on Craigslist and stubhub, just verify the bar code before buying from a stranger.
I buy season tickets to Reser every year for $150 each. For the whole season, including the Civil War every other year. I will never find myself paying $150 for a single game, especially in the enemies’ stadium. Hell, you could buy season tickets at Reser on Civil War years, and if you sold your Civil War ticket on craigslist, you could have the rest of the 5 or 6 home games for free.
The money is all relative. Besides, there’s nothing like seeing your team win in enemy territory! Sadly the Beavs haven’t won a ton of road games in the last 4-5 years.
Forgot this was a road game. I think that swings momentum WSU’s way. Beavs will need the run game to control time of possession and keep WSU off the field.
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT venture in to Autism stadium for the civil war. Unless you want to be puked on, urine, feces or other objects thrown at you, or you don’t mind being accosted by a group of drunken, thug, dick fans. Seriously, that place has become just as bad as Bulldog Stadium in Fresno when fans where throwing batteries and screwdrivers. Not joking. With the success oregon has had, bandwagon fans have come out of the woodwork. I will NEVER go there again. Seriously they would try and fight my 6 year old just because he was wearing a beaver jersey. You’ve been warned
Cal’s defense was bad but Halliday did make a lot of nice throws. He likes to throw deep and often. His three TD passes were 35, 68 and 72 yards. He more accurate than last year.
The key for the Beavs will be the dline play. Halliday gets rid of the ball pretty quickly so the dline needs to get their hands up quickly to bat passes down or change the angle of the throw. Any time they can put a big hit on Halliday, the better. He is battling through an injury so knocking him out of the game would be a big help.
On offense the beavs should be able to move the ball. Cal’s TRUE freshman QB threw for 500 yards. If Riley doesn’t abandon the run too quickly, could get around 100 yards on the ground. I would expect a lot of draw plays since WSU will expect pass most of the time.
Beavs 38 – Cougs – 28.
It’s going to be a pretty wild atmosphere in Pullman as it’s Dad’s weekend and a night game. Crowd should be really drunk so scoring early will be important. The secondary should be able to get a few picks in this game and that should be the difference.
I honestly think this is a pick ’em game. What’s the line?
Gut tells me the Cougs win, but in pick ems I always look to QB play as the difference, and Beavs have that advantage. That’s why I was curious about Halliday. If he has a good game the Beavs will lose.
line has moved anywhere from WSU -3 to -1. I think it opened as “pick em”
“Crowd should be really drunk so scoring early will be important.” Cracked me up.
Pre-game call of the week.
I’m going to this game. With a 7:30 kickoff there is a 100% chance of drunken debauchery by that time. Cougar and Beaver fans always seem to get along well and party nice together though so I don’t expect any abnormal fisticuffs.
Just normal fisticuffs?
Exactly. As in, the token obnoxious fan(s) going at it in the parking lot before the game. These are the guys that usually puke on you half way through the 1st quarter. They also pronounce words like “worshington, nucular, kindygarden, and excape”, uttering any of these words should result in normal fisticuffs.
That’s about right.. Go BEAVS!
I watched about half of the Cal Wazzu Game (prep’n for the upcoming weeks). Halliday has a couple of really good targets he’s throwing to. Particularly Vince Mayle- Goes 6’3″ 240 and he completely beast’d Cal’s corners. I would say Halliday wasn’t as accurate as much as he would adjust, pick the ball out of the air, and just throw the cal defenders down to the ground with a stiff arm. I guess that should be the scary part for a secondary that hasn’t tackled well.
Other then that, their front 7 is decent but their d got lit up by a mediocre Cal team. Should be a high scoring affair. I think our D is improving and the running game will be better starting this week. Beavs by 7. Our experience in close games helps us pull it out.
Even before the season I thought this was the toughest spot for the Beavs during their first 7 games, and now that we’re into it, nothing has changed my mind about that. Beavs won a close on last year; their D is better than then; ours is worse. A night game, probable sell-out, national TV, WSU sensing this is one of their few remaining “possibles” on the way toward 6 win bowl eligibility makes this a probable Coug win. This game fits the profile posited by a post on this blog earlier in the season: Beavs don’t do well in games that the other team makes a crusade. (That principle, by the way, works to OSU’s advantage vs. Stanford and UW)
Even before the season I thought this was the toughest spot for the Beavs during their first 7 games
I thought Utah b/c of the mobile QB, but I had this as other other possible loss.
2 Reasons Beavs win:
1) For the first time this season, the Beavs have a healthy O-line. Combine that with the return of Storm Woods and the Beavs should have their best running game of the year.
2) Riley is 9-2 coming off of a bye week in his career at OSU.
Beavs 38-23
WSU is mediocre this year (an improvement over awful, for sure). Road games are always tough, but I’m not impressed with Halliday and I think if we play a complete game, this is a 2-3 TD win for the Beavs. That’s a big ‘if’ with a lot of guys on the o-line that haven’t played in a while, though.
OSU 34-20 WSU
line opened 2.5 WSU, dropped to 1 right now…as I will be landing in Vegas for a week of softball around two that day…I will need to think this through. Right now, OSU.
Strikes me as a game OSU “should” win; the PAC’s “dean of coaches,” with his own system, own players, including Mannion/Cooks, against a WSU team in year 2 of the rebuild. But if WSU becomes the first team to really threaten Mannion and get multiple sacks, I could see WSU winning.
In any event, a viewer “disassociated” from the outcome should enjoy two teams throwing the ball a ton in a competitive affair.
Earlier in the pre-season, I was mentioning the Stanford/OSU game could be a potential ESPN Gameday game. Looks like Herbstreit might be thinking along those lines too possibly. Of course, gotta win WSU and CAL first to set that table.
Kirk Herbstreit ?@KirkHerbstreit 2h
Anybody paying attention to Sean Mannion at Oregon St?! 21-2 TD-Int ratio. If Beavs win Sat (WSU) they’ll be 6-1 host Stanford on Oct 26!!
6-1?
I guess he’s counting Cal as a sure victory?
At least he TRIED to show he gives a crap about a team that isn’t an ESPN darling.
This one will be tough on the road….Halliday isn’t too shabby, and the Coug D is performing better than the Beavs D. As many here are guessing, I’m thinking it’ll come down to INTs too…
40 — 35 WSU
I just see WSU coming out with more energy and playing strong. Get the feeling OSU is more flat after a bye week. Hope I’m wrong. WSU 41 OSU 27
I am cautiously optimistic. I don’t really see WSU getting to Mannion any more than anyone else. With the crappy run game everyone in the stadium has known Mannion is going to throw and yet he has put up monster numbers. I think OSU will do well offensively, the question mark is the D. If they can make Halliday’s day a living hell, then we win. Hopefully having someone on the D who loves violence will motivate the others. I want to see 11 Al Afalavas out there. Go Beavs
Leach is bat shit crazy. I’m not sure whether that’s worth a point on the line, but it makes for good entertainment.
I loved his quote when he was at Texas Tech about his players “fat little girlfriends”. Lol!!!!!!
As long as everyone is on the topic, I’ve been to autzen close to ten times with for the most part usually fairly crappy seats, and it generally is preceded by its reputation in my experience. It does get THAT loud though, and I have seen visiting fans get treated THAT badly on occasion, most notably the dude who was spit on for wearing beaver gear, in the visitors section of all places. All that said it is pretty damn cool at night, if not a bit obnoxious. The people that drone on and on about what an awful experience it can be for a fans rooting for the visiting team have never been to a place like Fresno or frankly Seattle in my opinion. As for this game I see it going much the same way as the Utah game, which is to say less than relaxing but never boring. I’ll go with 52 to 45 beavs unless Halliday gets hurt because that freshman makes too many mistakes right now from what I’ve seen.
OSU relying on Cooks:
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2013/10/oregon_state_football_beavers_55.html
No real surprises, OSU’s relied on one to few (Rodgers Bros) before. I think that Mannion is doing a nice job so far of finding others, including TEs. And I’d love to see a screen pass to Chris Brown, but don’t expect he’ll see the field much, if at all, with Woods return.
This remark surprised me: “Langsdorf expects to decide upon the starter at right tackle — either freshman Sean Harlow or sophomore Gavin Andrews — late this week.” Is that Lang’s call? Or Riley’s/Cav’s?
Didn’t realize WSU did such a respectable job in pass defense yardage the first four games – 473 yards – but that was against Auburn, USC, Southern Utah, and Idaho. Still, it says something that competed with Auburn on the road, where Halliday threw it 65 times.
Last week, I was thinking Mannion could throw 7 tds in a shoootout victory over WSU; but the late game, tv audience, the fact that Leach will look like a drunken dad on the sidelines, and Riley & Co.s performance under these conditions, makes me wonder. I don’t think WSU has the DBs to take Cooks out of the game with coverage skills, but I wonder about a cheap shot on Cooks or Mannion a la Jacquizz Rodgers to try and intimidate and motivate their team. Mannion will have opportunities with Caleb Smith and Hamlett, and Woods/Ward are likely to have receiving TDs.
This is kindof funny. New Nike pro bowl unis look like they could have been a rejected Civil War design.
The new @nfl pro bowl uniforms must have been designed by Tinker and his #GoBeavs crew @usnikefootball pic.twitter.com/vPCdix1lyE
Spot on…leftovers?
We can laugh about this, but this phenomenon gets to the heart of what I’ve been harping on on this site for some time now, that is, the not so subtle (any more) attempt by Nike to “mainstream” Duck yellow in the sports universe, as part of the larger strategic goal of UO branding; US Olympic track team shoes was an earlier attempt at this. Now, those who are going to respond that OSU’s orange treatment is a balancing mechanism, actually, it’s more properly perceived as “cover.” They would have wanted to go with yellow solo but even Nike (and their media whore ESPN and assorted acolytes) knew they couldn’t pull off anything that brazen.
I agree with this 100%.
I’ve noticed over the past 5-6 years the transition of key players, teams, and likenesses to the Nike Affect. Rafael Nadal (Tennis player) comes to mind along with several other key stars. Some time back ESPN was running highlights on the guy and his new contract with Nike….low and behold, there he was with his new green and yellow Nikes on with matching shorts and top/bandana — and I’m thinking of all the colors, the guy is a spaniard (red and gold) would be more fitting. I believe Lebron James had a pair of green/gold to commemorate his high school colors, but of course Nike found a way to market the Duck colors. Then with soccer shoes I’ve noticed they always seem to have a green and yellow pair as standard — before the green/yellow was reserved for the “Brasil” shoe. Now it’s being plugged in to our subconscious to slowly associate green/yellow as fast, fit, and highest of standard athletes. Call it a conspiracy, but I don’t think so, it is quite obvious — the Nikeification of sports. This is just the latest….
Still haven’t been able to buy a NC yet
OT, but “Luck O’ the Beavers,” Pro Version?:
1) Wheaton ends up on a Pittsburgh team that now sucks even with a Pro Bowl and SB QB at the helm;
2) Jackson goes to ATL hoping for playoffs/SB, ATL OLine now sucks, Jackson injures leg;
3) On a night when Jacquizz has a decent game with 2 TDs, Jets pull out late game victory – in ATL – with rookie QB Smith who apparently accounted for 11 TOs in previous four games.
Everything points to an OSU win. Well, maybe not everything, but most things.
WSU doesn’t have a mobile quarterback. Heck, no running game at all.
Their defensive backfield might be better than OSU’s, but certainly not lately. And they haven’t had to guard Cooks.
Leach might have a slightly better resume than Riley, heck he may even be a better coach, but OSU has more offensive talent. Mannion has the capability to outscore anyone.
Beavers getting healthy.
I along with everyone else is expecting at least a glimmer of a Woods/Ward run game now. Chris Brown is rightfully relegated to only a few touches and/or garbage time, which I do not expect to happen in this game.
It will be a close, back and forth affair. Beavers win by a possession. I hate guessing scores, but since everyone else is, I’ll try:
37-31 Beavers
Mannion has the capability to outscore anyone.
we still don’t know what this guy is, and likely won’t until Stanford.
We know he is good. The question is, is he elite?
Who’s Mannion?
There is one chess move out there that the next AD who takes it will earn his university and football program a big step up for sustained success. BDC could but likely won’t make this move to secure golden real estate with a single spot remaining.
Oregon State’s Operation ‘X’ to the next level:
http://beaverbyte.com
Do you really think ESPN would put OSU with all those other schools? Maybe if they get to 6-1 and ranked, but not at 4-1 with a loss to e. washington and one of the worst d’s in the nation.
OSU should work hard to win the next 2, get to 6-1 and ranked around #23 and make the call. Worth a shot. They have Auburn on there and a lot of big rivalries. Oregon State-Oregon is the oldest and most played rivalry in the nation. We are worthy with the right sell at the right time.
It’s crazy to think that the answer to all of our problems has been sitting right there under our nose. The Great Beaver In The Sky has spoken through Beaverbyte like he’s our BurningBush. It’s starting to make sense.
“Work Hard-Make the Call” could be our “Win the Day”
Actually, I would rather have our motto be WAW: We Are Worthy
What exactly has you convinced that it is such an easy thing to accomplish? Just a phone call is all you expect it to take? That is a bit naive, unless you have some insider information?
I agree with you in concept. BDC could, at the very least, show interest and call ESPN, since there is nothing really to lose. Who’s to say he hasn’t already? Or perhaps the 100 other FBS schools?
“Hello, ESPN?, This is Craig Robinson. No, not the guy from ‘Hot Tub Time Machine.’ I’m the coach of the Be…….what? Oh, yes, he was great in ‘Eastbound and Down’, but that’s not why I’m calling. I see you have an open slot on your websi….what? Oh, my name is Craig Robinson. I’m the Beaver coach……no not Mike Riley!…….yes, he’s the nicest guy ever. but why I’m calling is because I’d like to…….uh……hello?…….um, I’m Barrack Obama’s brother in law. Yes! That guy!….I just wanted to……no, I dont know when the government will start working again……..You know what, I think I need to check in wih my pharmacist, Mr. Moreland. Peace out…..”
that’s the list I was referring to the other day that objectifies Angry’s point about the programs that matter. No, OSU won’t be going on that list, and frankly, doesn’t deserve to be. If the school had maintained momentum coming out of the 2000 season and been to a couple BCS games since, one could make the argument, but we don’t have the national following many of those schools have (that took a century to build), or in the case of Oregon, a few million dollars of Nike advertising to buy.
Halliday gets rid of the ball very fast. Against Furd he completed several short passes that reminded me of the Derek Anderson days. The Cardinal were able to tackle in space and limit these short passes from becoming long gains, and I think that will be the key for our defense… our CBs and safeties to tackle in space. If they start gashing us on short passes it will encourage the other backs to start cheating off their man (or at minimum allow their eyes to wander) to help with tackling and that could open up the long ball game for WSU.
As usual, a running game for us would help tremendously to control TOP and keep their passing game on the bench altogether.

….Nike up to their tricks again!
A good analysis of Halliday vs Cal. His deep ball is where the opportunity is to create turnovers.
http://www.cougcenter.com/wsu-vs-cal/2013/10/8/4814892/connor-halliday-chart-wsu-cal
Tackling in space will be big. Or at least slowing down the ball carrier until help arrives. Cal did a bad job of this and over pursued many times. Led to a lot of yards after catch.
This is awesome! Why doesn’t OSU have analysis like this for every game/position/etc.? Why doesn’t every team do it?
Kudos to that blogger for that work.
OSU should go high tech, a GPS in every helmet, map out and breakdown every play. Sure, the opponents wouldn’t have it in their helmets, but the analysis d’s you could do….
Only if the GPS will tell the DEs where they need to be when facing mobile QBs.
No offense, but tackling in space is always big.
OT… leave it to a baseball fan to make some in government look completely stupid.
http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/10/08/applying-government-shutdown-logic-to-the-baseball-playoffs/
Sarcasm much?
I think he misses a bit. It’s more like a football team who is losing 70-0 in the early 3rd quarter yelling at the ref for not calling a holding penalty on this or that play… then marching off the field in a huff to end the game in one big quitter’s quit.
This is what you get when you hire someone who promises to despise their job and disrespect their employers. It’s not like the whackadoodles didn’t campaign for this shit. Morons voted them in despite promises to shit on America. Now they have no right to be upset.
I also don’t think the GOP understands how much the world disrespects them right now. They’re in their own little world of stupid, and only a very small percentage of US citizens think they understand their liberal babble.

San Diego Chargers signed Mike Remmers to the active roster. Former Jesuit and Oregon St standout will be in uniform and active on Sunday.
I predict many false starts or holding calls in their near future. They should just rename those. “Remmers, on the offense, 10 yard penalty, replay the down”
Easy to standout with refs throwing flags at you. Guy had one out-of-mind experience @ RT in Quizz’s breakout game against USC then two (?)forgettable years. I forget…
i think he was made out to be the scapegoat. 3rd and 4? That’s too easy. Remmers do your thang! 3rd and 9 or 3rd and 14? That’s more our style!
What a great article by Eggers, but makes you cry to see where BDC’s apathy took our basketball program since he took over. Hopefully the new practice facility will help turn it around.
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/196129-a-50-year-reunion-of-oregon-states-home-grown-final-four-team
The younger fans who only know the Riley/Erickson era of Football don’t appreciate how good the basketball program was for over 5 decades.
I saw the Cal -Ohio State game live. Cal and Beaver defenses have different strengths or weakness. The charting of Halliday vs Cal is only somewhat helpful to the Beavers. Cougars like the Buckeyes, attacked a weak and slow left cornerback and weak safeties and lbs. Also please remember that Leech and Sonny are clones of each other on offense, which does effect how they approach the former protege and his defense. It would be more insightful to look at WSU over 2-3 games to find trends that would apply to Beavers. I think Mageo/Johnson/Alexander will plug the middle, keep containment and allow the ends to crash the qb. Even if he gets it off, Halliday can get thumped and his accuracy will suffer. He is capable of multiple pics and is not much of a threat to run. Beaver lbs and safeties will be better equiped to deal with short stuff than Bears. There was a comment earlier about Lang/Cav deciding who to play a left tackle. Why not play them both together to get some run leverage and slow down the clock? Against both Stanford and Cal, WSU did ok against the number one receiver. The Cardinal and Bear number 2 or 3 receivers had career games against WSU. To me, the keys are Mullaney or Boldin busting out with big games, reducing the stupid penalties and keeping WSU from scoring on the long ball.
MB, was there as many buckeye fans in that stadium as it looked like on tv?
WR? CB? WR/RB combo?
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1597260/dre-massey
Sorry, ADD and lots of coffee. Beavers must make WSU pay for double coverage on Cooks. On Defense, Beavers must be able to play one on one across the board. On both counts, I think the Beavers can take advantage.
Just got word that I have a ticket to the game this weekend in Pullman. Pretty excited, grandpa went to school there, night game, should be an pretty fun atmosphere. Anyone been up there for a game or have any suggestions?
cow tipping
Even if the cow gives you bad service?
We’re taking the Flat Tailgate Society on the road to Pullman for our first visit there too. We’ll be in the rv lot all weekend. I’ve heard the game is sold out so things should be fun.
The best tailgating is in the RV lots (yes, plural) as games in Pullman are not commuter affairs but overnighters. If the weather is bad and folks with you can’t hack the elements, there is an indoor tailgate party down in the old gym, just north of the stadium.
If the weather is bad and folks with us can’t hack it then they are whimps and most likely not beaver nor cougar fans.
I’m pretty excited to party it up with coug fans. We’ve always enjoyed their crowd that makes the trip to corvallis.
With a lot of the guys back, the Beavs win by a 17 to 20 point (or so) margin. 2 picks by the D helps. How many cheap shots on Cookie is the question.
OT: Info for our 2015 game at Michigan.
Made the bucket list trip to Ann Arbor for the 100th anniversary Little Brown Jug game.
If anyone is thinking of going to to the 2015 game, do not miss the opportunity. It was amazing.
Pure and total class. Treated great by the fans. Big house is awesome and great tailgating close by the stadium. A pure CFB experience. No adds on the twin mega scoreboards, no crap music blaring through the PA system, and no stupid promotions or gimmicks to amuse the crowd. The only thing being sold or promoted was the U of Mich brand. Facilities are fantastic…..their marching band has their own field turf practice field! Ann Arbor is a cool college town with lots of great food and beer.
The whole experience was beyond impressive. 248th straight game with a crowd in excess of 100k.
We’re all over this game. Will probably take a week off and make a vacation out if it.
Definitely on my bucket list to catch a game there.
Vanderveen @ UM? Brown, Bolden in tow…tough start for Vanderveen…
get V all the reps you can THIS year, Vaz only in games with undecided outcomes.
I’d like to get to the Michigan game, too. My buddy’s a Wolverine fan, so I have two years to get him to schedule his trip at the same time.
The wife is from MI. Most of her Family went to Michigan and still lives there. We will be attending for sure! Can’t wait! Hope the Beavs can put together a respectable performance.
Wouldn’t it be great if OSU came out and set the tone with hard, clean hits?!? When did that last happen?
Baseball season?
Wisconsin last year?
OT–Red Sox move on. Ellsbury bats .500 for the series.
OT… RIP Philip Chevron.
And to top the day off, Uchenna Nwosu gets an offer from USC a couple days ago and decides to commit there.
Who dat?
gitar fo sa Pogues.
Or do you mean Nwosu?
Dat
Nwosu is a good S/LB prospect who was under the radar. I think OSU and Portland State were his only offers. And he was leaning heavily toward OSU with a visit scheduled for next month.
A couple days ago, USC swoops in out of the blue and just up and offers he kid. He committed there yesterday.
That would be awesome.
Guess not.
Woods’ talk of feeling “fresh” ring kind of hollow to me; wasn’t he fresh at the start of the year?
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2013/10/oregon_state_football_storm_wo_9.html#incart_flyout_sports
I get the feeling he’s going to have frequent dings/injuries that keep him from ever being a reliable, every game back.
Riley says the returnees are rusty:
From the OLive: “Fullback Tyler Anderson (hamstring), running back Storm Woods (concussion), tight end Connor Hamlett (knee), linebacker Joel Skotte (turf toe) and defensive tackle Siale Hautau (triceps strain) are also among the Beavers’ recent additions to practice. Hautau donned pads Tuesday for the first time in a few weeks.
“The good news is they’re back,” Riley said. “The bad news is they’re rusty.””
Nice to hear Hautau is back, hope he can get in shape for the stretch run and help out in the middle, he’ll be needed.
And the fact that scouts from these teams visted is interesting to me, because i wouldn’t think several of these teams are after Sean, though he could end up being a second day pick for all we know. As pointed out elsewhere on this thread, everyone we’ll find out if he’s good or elite:
OLive: “Notes from Tuesday’s practice: … Scouts from five NFL teams — the Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, New York Jets, St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks — observed practice.”
They also have to be noticing Cooks, the TEs, and keeping their eyes on them for when they are draft eligible.
Well most players are fresh at the beginning of the season. Even less are fresh at the mid point of the season, getting their best running back on the field (along with the oline) will be a plus for this teamteam going forward.
This should help Storm stay fresh for the season.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N91XsdrBqUY
Thanks. I had no idea Woods had that “not so fresh” feeling. There are products out there available to help with that
and it appears beavergopher beat me to it with his link. I bow to him. Carry on
total is up for the game 62.5…think we can score 40+ against them?
maybe 40, but not much more. I think Cougs win this 31-30.
and how come we haven’t offered?
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/178512/dj-beavers
Because he’s a 4* OLB?
Imagine, Woods and Beavers on the same team…
He might chew off Storm’s legs.
After going to Eugene City Hall to write his report, Ware talked to Sgt. Larry Crompton about how to handle cases involving UO athletes. Crompton said he would contact the UO football liaison to set up an appointment with Ware and Lyerla.
AND
The officer contacted Thurston on May 3 for a followup interview. At that time, Thurston said he and the other two men had decided not to pursue the matter. The officer contacted the other two men by phone and they said the same thing.
“This case is suspended as no prosecution is desired,” the report concluded.
There is so much wrong with that I can’t even begin. First off, why are the police treating UO athletes differently than anyone else. Secondly, why did these 3 decide not to press charges when contacted about the incident a week later. My initial thought is there is much more to this story than is being said/reported. But they wouldn’t coerce anyone down there to protect an athlete. That would just be flat wrong………………….
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/9-news/197112-colt-lyerla-accused-of-2012-assault-on-eugene-street
Think he’ll return to the program now that charges are dropped?
no. he’s too stupid to get a degree. and that’s pretty sad considering how easy it is to get one in eugene. He’ll work out at the NFL combine in the spring and catch on with some team willing to take a chance on him until he fucks it up with his mouth and behavior, ala Cliff Harris. Don’t expect too much out of Colt. He’s had a horrible childhood so it’s not his fault
There is an over-arching problem with how Nikegon football players get away with garbage in this town. But this is a worthless incident IMO. It looks like drunk college kids getting in a scuffle and nothing more. If it was Corvallis, Lyerla would be charged with felony walking under the influence, second degree looking at someone funny, leaving the scene of a crime, second degree displacing dirt on a public road and felony assault.
It’s not like he was drunk and stoned and broke into some woman’s house in the middle of the night for his second alcohol related incident in a year.
The Eugene PD systematically handles UO football player issues, including information releases, differently than other citizens.
First #beaverjuice, now this… http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2013/10/01/beaver-butts-emit-goo-used-for-vanilla-flavoring/
Great idea for some authentic “Beaver” cookies to share with my Duck friends.
Haha. “What’s in this frosting?”
I always knew my shit didn’t stink. Go Beavs!
LOL. Good one!
OT… Oh my!

Curious why they used so much poo coloring on their floor
I’ve got 2 extra tickets to the game, in the Beaver section #14. Let me know if someone is looking to buy.
Have fun. Need a review.

OL from Camas

Well, who doesn’t need some “Biggins” to go with their Woods and Beavers(?)….
Clarkson sounds like a warrior. Was diagnosed with testicular cancer and went through chemo at the age of 17. And he is still a 3* OG recruit. Congrats to him on the commit and more importantly, his health. I cant imagine going through that at 17.

Great article, thanks! What a man
Camas is probably the best team in the state of WA, and they destroyed the Portland teams they played this year, including powerhouse program Jesuit.
Sounds like a good get. Need those OL recruits.
Hey Beaverkman, any idea how many more verbals we are going to take for this class?
We’re under the limit by quite a few with all of the defections and non-qualifiers right? Should be a big class. Looks like there’s 107 on the Roster. 17 graduating seniors which puts us at 90. Then by my count/guess there’s around 20 or so walk-ons. We always over-sign so I imagine they’d take at least 9-10 more guys? Looking at the names I’m not sure many of the walk-on’s earn schollies with better recruits coming in. ESPN has everyone but the Hawaiian kid Fitou Fisiiahi (who’s unranked) as being 3*’s.
Fisiiahi should be a 3-star (he is on Rivals).
All three major recruiting services have our class ranked last in the conference (based on star rating). Now these services typically do re-evaluations in January so it is possible that we could change that. However, there are schools like Oregon and Usc who have a lot fewer commits currently.
I think it will be a full class, more than that I am not sure, Riley will have the schollies to go above 25, but outside of his first year back (34) has he gone over a full class. Just looking at the numbers as Swill has you can make a case that they will go heavy. However, I don’t think Riley wants the classesto be that big of a separation. So, I would argue that you can go for more recruits, junior college, or look for possible transfers. But, I ddon’t see much JC offers, and I have read where they have told some recruits that they are full already at certain positions. You would think this would be a year where they could go over their numbers and stagger the redshirts over the years to even things out or have it even out through natural attrition? So, I don’t. Know how many more to expect other than a full class.
Isn’t Bellevue nationally ranked?
Bellevue is ranked in the USA Today top 21
http://blogs.seattletimes.com/highschoolsports/2013/10/02/ap-high-school-football-rankings-week-5/
Camas is ranked #1 in 4A
Interesting. I don’t see any other kids on that team getting high-level recruiting interest. Their QB is committed to EWU (I know, I know) and we have Clarkson. That’s it.
WAY OT: But what do you think of this?
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/197396-jason-says-huskies-have-what-it-takes-to-upset-oregon
I think his reasoning is sound. And that doesn’t mean the end of the “Duck Dynasty” in the Pac, just that under these conditions Saturday, UW could win this game. I won’t be surprised if UO doesn’t break UW’s back and hearts by the 3rd, nor will I be surprised if UW ekes out a win. UW could be down after a narrow loss to Stanford. But I think Wilcox, and a sold out, crazy Duck-hating crowd in a revamped stadium, could prop up the D in what is normally a demoralizing task; controlling the UO offense.
If UW wins early in the day, it makes the OSU @ WSU an even more attractive “undercard.”
Well then…

Good enough for a 50-spot for me…
I’m more curious what they’re record is when it’s between 40-45 degrees in odd years since 1975 when the moon is in it’s waxing crescent phase.
It’ll be gibbous by Saturday.
Crap. Banker can’t ever stop a gibbous moon.
Story of half my life
Mannion envy?”
” Sean Mannion is effectively perfect. With 21 touchdowns against just two interceptions, Oregon State’s quarterback is as close to flawless as a Swiss watch. His 2,018 passing yards lead the quarterback-fertile Pac-12, and his 67.2 percent completion clip is the envy of offensive coordinators across the county.”

Wow, these WSU coaches are a talkative bunch:
http://www.spokesman.com/cougs/blogs/sportslink/2013/oct/09/wednesday-practice-notes/
WSU apparently getting back one of their most “explosive” receivers, and O looking sharp in practice.
OT – The late start time just seriously runied next weekend at CAL for me. Since I live in SO cal and have a few buddies from Portland that were goign to be in the Bay for the Cal game I choose to have my bachelor party up there next weekend. Thinking the game would be at 1:30 or 4:30 like it should. Instead the 7:30 kick time is smack in the middle of when we had party bus and amateur talent scheduled to meet up..
Not really sure what I’m goign to do now. Leave at halftime I guess?
Blame Larry Scott
This one is easy. You skip the game. Make sure that party bus has a tv,. If that doesn’t work, I’m sure the amateur talent will help you forget about football.
Yeah.
Can you DVR a bachelor party and “talent”? No. So DVR that shit and go have fun. If you can make half the game, then go for it but I wouldn’t sweat it.
Take the party bus to the game; tailgating taken to a new level. Make sure the brass pole isn’t TOO close to the bar-b-que.
Bet you’ll get lots of visitors.
Genius! I would give you 10 thumbs up if i could.
problem solved! That is a great idea!
Yeah just go the game and leave when you need to, you’re kinda screwed but hopefully the game will be out of hand by then anyway.
On topic: Just hope your amateur talent remembers sunblock if they’ve been out in the sun all day. A couple of ‘amateurs’ we hired from Portland to attend my buddy’s bachelor party in Lincoln City showed up that night with SERIOUS sunburns! Lobster-red cheeks and boobs with the requisite NW pasty-white smile lines in all the creases when they bent over or got into positions that there Winnebagos defied gravity.
I’m still traumatized by the images if you can’t tell. After 3 hours and hundreds of $1 we kicked them out.
Hahahaahah these are real amateurs.. Like friends of some friends that know this girl..who knows etc. etc. But still noted
Dress um up in Cal and Beav cheerleading outfits and take them to the game. Have an epic halftime show!
Hahaha Im already blaming Larry Scott.Skippign the game sounds blasphemous ..
But I think you may be right. Its a fcked up situation to even have to decide.
Verse?
Congrats bro. I’m sure you knuckleheads will have a blast either way. I’d holla on facebook (no reason to give up anonymity at his point) but it looks like your no longer on.
Go Beavs!
Thanks man! Howd you know? I think I know who you are if dwill is right.
Yeah, I’m one of the Milwaukie boys. Logical deduction. How many CaliBeavs could be having a bachelor party with people flying down from Portland that weekend at that particular game? Do me a favor and make sure Jake doesn’t get to drunk and sucker punched by any of those Berkley pacifists!
Yup
Where’s the ol’ ball coach PBH?
Dusting off the playbook and prepping for USC & Texas interviews? Serving as a Special-Consultant-to-Offense for Sark and staff in prep for UO/Gameday?
Hey Beaverbyte, I’ve got some verbal pornography for you….
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/197280-de-carolis-revved-about-future-of-osu-athletics-
this made me laugh out loud, fuck the acronym. i’m not even sad that i not only get but enjoy jokes that have to be understood by looking at the comment section of this site on a regular basis.
De Carolis: Yes. I would like to open up some talks with the university about an extension — especially since we’re going to try to do the stadium expansion project.
Read: yes, expansion is a big project that I can milk al out money out of for myself and my friends.
Agree. Most of the plans will or should be detailed and drawn up by 2016. BDC doesn’t need an extension for us to get a great finished stadium. We can do better and frankly BDC at that point will likely need even more focus on his health. For a guy who claims 5 gym workouts a week not to mention yoga, he looks a little weak already let alone in 2019 or later. A fresh agressive and determined AD to raise Oregon State’s national profile would be best for OSU.
I didn’t think it was total endorsement of CR, be interesting if another hoops season falls apart.
Prediction:
B.Cooks & S.Mannion
Either both or neither enter the draft this season (Barring injury).
I think that their chemistry keeps them around together for one more year together.
It makes sense. Both of their stocks will drop if the other one leaves. I think I read that Cooks said he was 100% coming back next year, not that that really means anything (I’m looking at you Quizz).
My guess is that Cooks doesn’t have the same stock as Mannion this season. That will be what seals the deal. Mannion has the integrity and devotion to return to help and try to make Cooks a day one pick. Plus a Rosebowl would be great!
Unfortunately for us, it looking like USC is instantly better sans Kiffin.
Yeah that’s not the same team.
Not the same team because not the same coach, check this article:
http://espn.go.com/blog/pac12/post/_/id/63263/orgeron-brings-fun-back-to-usc
Weather looks to be cold, maybe a little rain. Based on everything I’ve read this week, WSU is really looking to shutdown Mannion and not placing much attention on the rush game. Might we see some good running tomorrow if WSU is putting a lot of emphasis on their pass rush? I can see a lot of fake fly sweep action to get defenders out of position at the snap. WSU runs mostly a 3 man front and were dropping 8 into coverage a lot vs Cal. Not too much blitzing.
Curious to see if Andrews gets in the game, he’s about 40 pounds heavier than Harlow. That would be quite a change up for guy lined up on that side.
….be like an Australian Cattle Dog (40 lbs) with rabies (mono) added to Harlow’s frame…that would be somethin’!
I’m having a hard time gauging this game. Our pass D has been awful at times and well, that’s what the Cougs fancy is. I really could see us getting blown out if the defense does not bring it. At the same time the Cougs have done a solid job on D with the pass rush. I think I read that the Boogars will drop back and cover with up to 8 and only rushing 3 or 4 at times. Which could bode well for a team that hasn’t had much success running the ball. And with a healthy O-line and Storm Woods back could bode very well. I don’t see us blowing the Boogars out either. They haven’t been blown out this year and I don’t see it happening this weekend either. They can score a ton of points just as we can. Granted Cal’s D is downright awful (ours has been not real great either) but I think the best way to win this game is going to be effectively running the ball and keeping the Cougs and Connor Halliday off the field. The Boogs average 30.8 per game. The Beavs D gives up 31.6 per game. I think it’s safe to say the Boogs will score 30-31 in this game. WSU only gives up 20.8 ppg and the Beavs average 41.6. This is where things get hazy to me. Will the Beavs score 41-42? Or will the Boogs D shut Mannion and the Beavs down? Wazzu appears to be average to above average at passing defense and efficiency. So I’m gonna halve that and that puts the Beavs around 31. Turnover margin the Beavs are +4 on the year while the Boogs are dead even. I think this is where this game will be decided. I think this will be a close one and could go either way but I’ma take the Boogs at home 34-31 but it could just as easily go the other way
WSU was blown out by Stanford. Hogan passed for three big play touchdowns.
This game is indeed hard to call. Even harder to call a score for it. I happen to think both defenses are about equal. But Mannion is a better quarterback than Halliday in practically every measurable way. This to me is good enough for at least a possession advantage. Factor in home field advantage, and Beavers should still win, but probably not by a full possession.
Very detailed, swami. Now things aren’t so hazy for whiskey.
38 – 31 Beavs.
Beavers defenses gets a few stops and turnovers and they build a solid lead by the end of the third 35-17. Beavers defense gets tired and has few mental lapses and Cougs bring the score back to 35-31 with 5 minutes to play, Beavs piece together a decent drive that stalls out around the 25. Romaine hits a 42 yarder with just under a minute to go. Crighton with a sack on 4th down to end it.
5-1 on the way to Cal.
after hours of research, rosary beads, and red wine…my foray to Las Vegas will be funded by an over 62.5 wager at Mandalay Bay.
not sold on either pass defense, more passes = longer game = more opportunities to score.
This looks like a very watchable game because of its unpredictability.
And “Go Huskies?”
Huskies all the way!
I can’t do it. I wish they both could lose.
Yeah I can’t stand Washington…. dare I say it more than Oregon.
Hmm, about a 3-3 tie in a stinking game of ineptness on Gameday?
Well I’m choosing to listen to the Husky radio broadcast instead of the Jerry Allen
fuck that uw all the way. seattle>>>>>>>>>>eugene not to mention uw is a way better school by far.
Yeah, Huskies need to find a win somehow…. shake up the conference north division.
And we need to find a win in Pullman, keep the season ALIVE. We could still pull out a decent bowl game….. Oh, great Beaver in the sky….whack that mighty tail on them Cougs…
I believe the Beavs will win comfortably because:
– Connor Halliday is not a running QB, and may be even less mobile than usual due to injuries (over his last five games, CH’s longest run went for 5 yards, and in three of those games he didn’t have any runs that gained positive yardage)
– Conner Halliday is more likely than Mannion to throw interceptions (so far this season, CH has thrown 10; Mannion has thrown 2)
– Beavs’ passing attack should thrive (weather will be cold but otherwise ok; Beavs are rested and healthy on offense after bye week, including first-string o-line that should be able to protect Mannion well against Cougs’ limited pass rush)
– Beavs are likely to run the ball better than the Cougs (Beavs’ running should be improved with healthy o-line and Storm Woods back; Cougs have little interest or capability in the running game)
Should be a fun game to watch. Go Beavs.
Plan c while I sit in seatac
Thinking Beavs team total over 31.5
Thoughts?
Weather shouldn’t be an issue. I’m seeing mid 40’s at kickoff and 0% chance of rain.
OT – UW wearing black?
Wilcox looking pretty good first series, glad WR didn’t have good hands.
2 things can slow hurry up offenses, tv timeouts & replays
Anybody have a link to a video stream for the game? Evidently Joe Avezzano’s Comcast service does not include some weird thing called ESPNU that Joe has never heard of.

Look under American Football
T ward sees a chance to get the starting gig.. Storm ran toward defenders twice tonight instead of cutting the ball up the field..
He’s hungry
