Oregon State Fans Month by Month

19

January: “Fuck the Ducks. When does Baseball start?”

February: At least we have baseball.

March: At least we have baseball. Spring camp has some asking, “How does the football team look?” (hope slowly grows)…

April: Baseball hits full stride and eases the pain of football and basketball

May: Baseball is all that matters, fans talk about seeds, CWS, etc. Briefly enjoy a period of focusing on baseball/winning and forgetting football/basketball/ losing. This is the best month to be a Beaver fan. We feel like winners in May.

June: Baseball team loses. Championship dreams crushed. Focus turns to football.

July: Fall camp, hope overrules reality/probability. Fans believe the Beavs will have a magical season, etc etc.

August: Hopium continues through early and mid August, right up until the opening kickoff. With an annual slow start and/or loss to a DII team, reality sets in. Fans readjust expectations. Rose Bowl becomes a wild dream instead of a reality; Sun Bowl plants its seed in Beav heads.

September: Riley starts showing full blown warts; fans start getting really cranky. Apologists/trolls appear out of the woodwork.

October: Ducks in the National media, Beav fans take it on the chin another year. Wild rationalizations begin.

November: The football team has found their identity, and rarely is it good. Fans grieve and accept another year of the same ol’. Basketball starts and makes everything happening with football  even worse.

December: Beavs go to a lame, tier three, pre New Years Day bowl game. Riley gets an extension. Message boards light up with apologists who say things like “Riley has the 3rd most wins ever” yada yada. The real fans get another kick in the nuts season. They’re a year older with nothing but grey hairs to show for it all. Start to think about baseball.

Rinse. Repeat.

This is why, as I get older, I realize it’s all really fucking stupid and worthless. Better off spending your Saturday with people you love or doing things you love than rooting for these dimwit authority figures (admins, coaches, etc) who can’t even get the obvious right. But hey, May is just a few days away. Enjoy the best month to be a Beav fan, Beavlettes!

  1. Per Mizell

“Report: Former California quarterback Zach Kline no longer plans to transfer to Oregon State”

Guess Del Rio IS as good as advertised.

    • Umm, thats per Eggers as quoted by Mizell. At least she does claim to have attempted to get an interview with Kline when he was in town.

EDIT: in a classy (SARC!!) move Mizell updates the story, taking out the mention of Eggers and inserting Klines tweet which she found in the meantime. Her original story was half an hour after Eggers tweeted the info and quoted, with attribution, Eggers tweet. Got to watch this gal now!

  2. Last fall I said I prioritized time with my kid over beaver football and somebody replied “You sound like one of those pussies that likes soccer.”

I laughed, and still agree that time with family is better spent…

  3. Three points:
    1. The first sentence in January can be the first sentence in each month.
    2. Since there’s such a thing as a DVR, who in their right mind wastes four or five hours on a weekend day or night watching a football game? I wish other networks would take note of what the PTN does with their games and just cram the half hour of actual good content into an hour-long show with commercials.
    3. There’s always next year.

  4. If there ever was hope Kavin would return before post-season play it seems gone now. Casey pretty clear about that in an interview with Mike Ferrin on Sirius XM. I only listened to the free snippet, anyone pick up more info from the entire piece?

And, wasn’t it nice to hear Jim Wilson on one of the civil war broadcasts? He recently tweeted, “OSU’s Andy Peterson was only non-NW player to start during sweep (in the field). Ducks started two NW kids all weekend”

  5. “I feel like that (Iowa State) coaching staff knows how to develop players,” Cooke said. “That’s something that I wasn’t as comfortable with here. I want to give myself an opportunity to win. That’s something that I didn’t feel like was going to happen at Oregon State so that stood out to me – an opportunity to play for a good coach and a winning program that just won a conference title. That stood out.”

    • If we had an AD with half a brain comments like those would be the proverbial straw. But we don’t so he will let the house burn to the ground before pulling the alarm.

Dear Halice, Ames Iowa is a total dump. Some nice buildings on the campus, but the town blows.
Corvallis is Paris France in comparison. While Iowa City(U of Iowa), is actually a pretty college town, Ames is the stereotype of Iowa. Flat, surrounded by corn fields, and bathed in the pungent aroma of pig manure from the surrounding farms. For sightseeing you can go look at the silos for the Barilla Pasta plant east of I-35. You might also hold off on signing as “The Mayor” might ditch you for the HC gig with the Timberwolves. I hope you like shopping for antiques, because that is pretty much all that is left in the downtown.

P.S. please do Beaver fans a favor and forward your reasons for leaving to our lamebrained AD.
“Once a Beaver, always a Beaver!”

  6. “The real fans get another kick in the nuts season”

LOL…are you seriously calling yourself a “real” fan? Bwhahahahahahahahaahahahahaha

You’re about as far from a “real” fan as it gets bud!
