Most notable is Burton and Cunningham are starting this game. Nice and necessary change. Burton has 4 quick points to give the Beavers an early 10-0 lead.

Apparently the Obama family is at the game. That story can be read here:
Beavs hang on to win. Almost gave up the lead at the end.
Seth Tarver fist pumps Obama post game.
Maybe this will get the team on track.
It was a good showing. By all accounts, GW was supposed to be a decent team. What was the line?
Now it’s waiting for ND/Stanford. I expect a good game. If Weis’ boys don’t show up for his last game it could be ugly…. Sorry. I guess they’ll be playing in the Hawaii bowl or some fastfood.com bowl come bowl time. Still, will Weis be there for that?
The line was GW -7
I think that fans need to relax when it comes to this team. Jay John was the worst thing that ever happened to our program (after a decade of worst things ever, which makes him a worst thing so bad it defies explanation, except for what I just did.) We should hope for a winning season with perhaps an NIT appearance. People heaped waaaaay too much pressure on our team this year and they should have been realistic.
Even if we had gotten to the tournament this year, we would have been blasted and laughed out of the first round. I want to see our progress in steps, not leaps. We’re not Oregon- we can’t BUY our victories and recruits. We need to be logical, not fickle.
That’s a great point. I try to give this team some rope. I don’t have a problem with anything so far, except the inflated egos from being CBI champions. Again, that means you’re the ~100th best in the country. With Obama watching today, the Beavers jumped out with urgency. The thing I didn’t like is how they lost said urgency at the end of the game and almost lost. These aren’t irrational complaints. I’m not saying they should be in the NIT even. But they should put together a complete game at this point and not let that “championship” title get to their heads.
Hey! If we get to the tourney we can make it to the Sweet 16 so long as we don’t have to play any mid-majors from Indiana. :)
OK… Ball State and Evansville anyone?
Anyway, I just wanted to say that it’s pretty cool that we have a Prez who actually likes b-ball. So often we hear stupid war analogies associated with a Prez’ love for a game unknown to said Prez. I have to say that the NBA took a sharp turn for the worse in 1990, and I will provide no alternative explanation. Bumping and grinding and carrying became the norm. Allen Iverson would have been World B. Free in the 80’s.
Last year was the last straw for me and the NBA. And I’m a basketball junkie. When I see LeBron James take two steps, get fouled, then take three more steps before he makes what the current NBA calls a legitimate lay-up… well, do I have to say more? The play was celebrated as a highlight for the weekend. It sickens me to think that five steps is allowable in any situation.
BTW… that same weekend Kobe had a ‘great’ move that zig-zagged through the lane over four steps and was called an amazing play. It was about as amazing as grilled cheese, but it got air.
What happened to my b-ball?
Sorry for the rant. I’m frustrated to see this kind of garbage seeping into college ball and being praised on top of it.
