  1. So what’s the story with MLB, angry?
I haven’t followed their Covid season and am more of an NBA guy. NBA appears to be headed towards having a small truncated group of teams that are still battling for a playoff spot, followed by playoffs, starting in late July.
But with that there are still several players electing to skip the whole thing, and some of the teams that technically have a shot at making the playoffs, dont really have much of chance and should get bounced early, with no real incentive to finish out their season(other than a paycheck i suppose)

    But…at least they’ll be playing.

    • MLB will be setting a season sometime soon, MLBPA refused to sign off on said season so they will be operating under the March agreement. Full prorated pay for however many games Manfred sets (likely around 60).

    • MLB is about money. The cba is expiring next year so the players aren’t going to show any weakness.

Contrary to angrys pessimistic view, baseball always makes a comeback. Came back from 3 major strikes, betting scandals, steroids and they’ll get through the recent cheating scandal.

Doesn’t really matter this season anyway, all leagues are running into problems already. Players testing positive in nearly every sport. The leagues are setting up in the wrong states. Florida is no good. Honestly Portland would be a good choice for the NBA. Two viable arenas. Low cases in the state.

      • I agree on the idea that MLB will be fine but I’ve never bought into the whole ‘MLB is dying’ schtick to begin with.

It would have been even better off if the owners hadn’t decided to pinch pennies and instead realized they’d make their money back more quickly had they never let it reach this point.

      What he said.
The 60 games is just a disaster. One bad start and a pitcher never recovers all “year”…catchers probably wind up playing 40 games. This new rule of not having specialists (pitcher has to pitch a full inning), DH, and trying to extend playoffs to 16 teams (yuck. why even play a season if more than half the teams make it into post-season?). Just a disaster. I’m a die-hard, and they lost me. The rule changes were bad enough, but this labor dispute was the final straw.

  2. Assuming Pac12 plays football, how would you rank teams in terms of best starting QB and best QB depth? Guessing ASU and USC have best starters(?), not sure about depth.

    • I would put UCLA and cals QBs up near the top at least as far as starters go. My buddy who is a WSU fan is confident in their next qb up who is a former 4 star.

If you look at commits so far this year I think every team has higher ranked QBs committed. Hopefully those will look silly down the line. It will be interesting to see how Smith and Lindgrens qb recruits turn out. Gebbia was a good transfer to snag but I’m talking more about high school than transfer or juco.

      • How many times have we seen four star guys not play like four star guys. They get beat out or were overly hyped. It’ll happen for a few of these guys.

    My rankings
    1- USC
Kedon Slovis is not only the Pac-12s leading returning passer he’s also only a sophomore with plenty of potential. Slovis has a big arm and will put up big time numbers in Graham Harrells air raid. Matt Fink is a capable backup with starting experience
    2- ASU
Jayden Daniels is the quarterback with the most potential who showed flashes of greatness and could develop into a Heisman candidate and a 1st round nfl draft pick. Daniels has a big arm and is very mobile but needs to add weight. The backup situation is a little iffy with Freshman Daylin McLemore as the top option
    3-Cal
Cal’s QB situation can be explained in one sentence. With Chase Garbers 7-0, without 1-5. Garbers could be a really good QB, but in my opinion is nothing special. Reminds me a little of Jake Browning. Devon Modster is an ok backup with starting experience.
    4-Utah
Utah has a QB competition going on but both options are solid. Jake Bentley was a 3 year starter at an SEC school who has experience and is a above average QB but nothing special. The other option is Cameron Rising a sophomore transfer from Texas who according to reports looks really good and out played Bentley in the limited spring. Utah will have an above average QB and probably the best backup in the conference regardless of who wins.
    5- UCLA
Dorian Thompson-Robinson has been somewhat of a disappointment so far in Pasadena but has 2 years left to turn it around. He has a ton of potential and could be scary good in chip Kelly’s offense. Colson Yankoff is the backup who transferred from Washington and hasn’t played in college yet so kind of a mystery, but was a blue chip recruit.
    6-Washington
The Huskies have a QB competition going on between Sophmore Jacob Sirmon and Freshman Dylan Morris. Both haven’t proved themselves or seen a lot of game action but we’re both highly rated recruits. The wildcard is Kevin Thomson a grad transfer from Sac State who was projected by some to be the FCS offensive player of the year. He could be dangerous for Washington if he wins the job which In my opinion he will.
    7-Stanford
Davis Mills was a 5 star blue chip who played OK in action last year. He was nothing special but he has a chance to be and he also could be an NFL quarterback if he works at it. The backup is Jack West who was mediocre in limited action last year
    8- Arizona
Grant Gunnell showed flashes of excellence as a true freshman and could be a good one. Took care of the ball really well last year and I’m looking forward to how he develops. Rhett Rodriguez Rich Rods son is the backup who hasn’t played a lot but has been below average when given the chance
    9-Oregon State
As we all know Tristan Gebbia was a blue chip recruit to Nebraska Who played well against a tough defense in Oregon. I think the Beavs could be higher on the list as the season goes just haven’t seen enough of Gebbia yet to put them higher. He’s a guy who appears to be a great leader and has a good pocket presence who can scramble a little too. Chance Nolan looked good at a juco but the talent level isn’t comparable to pac-12, will be interesting to see what role he plays this year.
    10- Oregon
Tyler Shough is the presumptive starter who hasn’t played a lot at UO. Haven’t seen much of him but he’s a big quarterback with similar size to Herbert. Played well In blowouts last year but hasn’t played in a game where it’s been competitive yet. Anthony Brown is a transfer from Boston college who has starting experience and will be a good backup
    11- Washington State
It looks like former 4 star Cammon Cooper is the leading candidate for the job but he hasn’t played at Wazzu yet so no college game experience to judge him off of. Jayden De Laura is the True freshman backup
    12-Colorado
Colorado’s gonna struggle this year and their Qb room is no exception. Tyler Lytle is the favorite for the starting job but hasn’t played in 3 years. The leading candidate for QB2 and the potential starter is freshman Brendon Lewis

      • Me too. Gives Gebbia an advantage because he’s had both playing time and time in OSU system.

4-11 in the list above seems like a bit of a wash, so I’d Beavs could be as high as 4 and like the Beavs situation: Smith (aggressive) , Lindgren (diverse, strategic play calling), Gebbia (brains, experience) Nolan (athleticism, mobility).

        • I like Nolan but I don’t think the circumstances this year will give him a realistic chance (ba doom tsh) to contribute. He needed a full and normal offseason to get up to speed imo.

    • Anyone have info on the Chip situation at UCLA? I saw something flash by a couple of weeks ago about some locker room unrest.

          • I think he wanted to compete at the highest level. He put up good numbers in Philly, but I don’t think his tactics okay well with highly paid grown men and he made some head scratcher personnel moves.

Also, I think the “tricks” he used became less effective as competitors adjusted.

I think hit unlikely he’l ever post a 4-5 year winning percentage like he did in Eugene. That was phenomenal.

  4. Get ready for a roller coaster ride in this years recruiting. With the cancellation if all the high end camps the coaches aren’t able to compare the prospects against each other physically. They are doing their best to work with junior season HUDL videos but nothing compares to a live evaluation against similar talent.

  5. Last night I was driven to watching Jurassic Park III. I’ve always liked the work of the male lead from his days as executive officer to Sean Connery in The Hunt for Red October, but lo and behold the female lead was Madame Secretary! I think she has improved with age.

    • I think it was that movie(or part 2?) where they filmed some scenes in Fern Canyon, in the Redwoods, near Orick.

If you’re ever visiting the redwoods, take some time to drive out to that location for a day hike. It’s a really neat spot along the coast. Bring your water sandals for a hike up the canyon and have lunch at the beach.

      • That’s in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, isn’t it? That area is beautiful and a must see. You can also mountain bike in it.

        • Think that’s what they call the park. We camped at Elk Prarie just down the road, which was nice too.
We came across this guy at the Fern Canyon trailhead when hiking there several years ago. Came around a bend and it was standing there about 20 ft in front of me, which was a little intimidating. He lifted his head shortly after I took this pic, and we moved on out of there.

          https://postimg.cc/KRTwchnp

          • It was one of those situations where you come through a treed area near the trailhead and it was just standing there grazing right in front of me. Didn’t seem too concerned with me, so I took a picture and turned on the video(check the link, forgot I still had this). As soon as he lifted his head I realized this was a bad idea and time to move on.

    Angry,

With the news that MLB is gonna put a runner on 2B to start extra innings I’m now officially in your camp, I can’t watch that gimmicky bullshit.

Might as well just watch Co-Ed softball

    • Saw them doing that in some minor league games a clue years ago. Caught me off guard the first time. Guess they don’t want those marathon games that last past midnight.

Might as well have a quick home run derby decide the game. Would be more like soccer

      • Or just end the game in a tie after 12…

        Better than this bullshit.

I would love some evidence that Rob Manfred even likes baseball, I’ve seen none in his tenure.

    • 1
      2

      Total Bush league.
I don’t think it’s going to be a watchable product anymore. It’s for ADD patients and crackheads now.

      • The rule is only for this year due to the short schedule. Pitchers will likely all be limited for most of the season. Plus with the rule relievers have to face three batters, bullpens might be even shorter on some days.

But hey, basically every sports league season will have asterisks on them. This rule won’t come into play all that much anyway.

        • Get rid of the absurd and stupid 3 batter rule, let teams have 40 man rosters. Problem solved.

This is the definition of a solution in search of a problem.

And it won’t go over well.

  7. Do you predict a full season?

Hey everyone my mom has been knitting heavy yarn face masks for covid in Oregon but will ship. I know there’s still a high demand and if anyone you know is struggling to find adequate supply please let me know. She says she makes between 12-20 per day. She’s only charging $80 for a 4 – pack so the whole family can easily be covered. Lots of different colors available. Stay safe and hey Go Beavs gods love : )

  8. Chamberlain signs with Kansas City for $450k… good for him. Mick Abel signed with Phillies for going OSU commitment. Bad for us.

  9. Fwiw, American Legion baseball in Montana has been under way for a month. Three levels – haven’t had a chance to go to a game but will do soon.

      • Calm down about the mlb. Do you wish the season was cancelled? Extra inning rules won’t be the same for playoffs. Deep breath.

Shoulda said Covid softball rules and I woulda gave you a like.

        • Not using the same rules in the playoffs is NOT a positive.

It shows that even MLB knows said rule is stupid.

As to rather I’d have them not play? Honestly, if they want to make every other Wednesday game a 3 inning home run derby I don’t care at this point.

I’ve had 2 red lines when it came to Manfred and his crusade to destroy MLB. I accepted the DH in both leagues even though I hate the DH, I took this stupid 3 batter rule even though it violates the spirit of the game of baseball but for a few years I’ve said 2 things would cause me to tune out.

          1) Robot umps
          2) Runner on 2nd in extra innings.

I’ll wait until someone that loves baseball is back in charge and restores the game, till then I’m waiting for the next time the Beavs get to play baseball for my fix.

          • 20 inning games are meaningless and really hurt teams, long term, never understood it… That being said I agree Youngorst that the runner on 2nd reminds me of my softball league… There are better options than that. It’s not going to end games any earlier… I am more upset about the no spitting rule… Guys are gonna have to gut that shit lol… Overall, I am just glad to see baseball back… It sucks I am a Mariners fan but hey I guess I like the underdogs

          • The shorter season benefits bad teams like the Mariners. It leaves more up to the luck of going on a hot streak.

Just imagine if last year had been a 40-game season. They would have made the playoffs!

          • You guys are entitled to your opinions, I love 20 inning games, the rare events are what make MLB great. But if you don’t want a 20 inning game end regular season games in a tie. Ties are better than gimmicks.

And no, the Mariners still miss the playoffs even after 40 games last year, by 60 they were in last place.

At the end of the day, this saves me money so thank you MLB. I only get cable TV during baseball season, this year I am skipping that expense.

          • This is very true and I was hopeful until I saw they literally have the toughest schedule in all of baseball for this 60 game stretch… But like you said if they score 10 runs a game and mash home runs like early last year, who knows… should be fun, I am excited

          • I am well aware, I won’t be doing that either this year.

I can wait for the sport to get someone that actually likes baseball back in charge. My buddy and I have already decided that we are gonna go to Omaha next year (Beavs or not) instead of our usual MLB weekend.

I think college baseball (despite the metal bats) has become a more watchable game anyway.

          • Whatever, just trying to help you out, but of course you know it all… I thought it was just your attitude with politics and I didn’t judge you for it at the time… But I now realize it truly is just who you are… a pessimistic asshole

          • Wow, okay….Sorry if you think that.

I didn’t realize I was required to watch MLB baseball or be considered an asshole.

            My bad.

I don’t watch the NBA either, what does that make me?

          • “ At the end of the day, this saves me money so thank you MLB. I only get cable TV during baseball season, this year I am skipping that expense.”

I wasn’t suggesting that you have to watch anything I was just letting you know you can do it for free. But assume away

          • And I was telling you I know about said access.

Was I suppose to pretend I didn’t know you can find streams on reddit?

I prefer to pay for products. I don’t judge you for using reddit and admit to doing so myself on occasions but if possible I prefer to pay.

  10. August is going to be a crazy month for sports. All major leagues will be playing at the same time. MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, MLS, golf, etc.

Looking at European soccer, I don’t think the leagues will pause when they have players test positive.

And if all the leagues push forward, I think the chances of college football go up but probably with out fans.

What may be a disadvantage that teams in the south are testing positive, now may be an advantage. With the west having much more restrictive measures, may actually allow sports to move ahead in the fall in the pac12.

Maybe the PAC 12 north plays each other home and home. 10 games plus maybe one more vs psu, eastern wa or Boise st.

    • Tre Shawn Harrison, probably not going to eligible this year, nick dashel said today on joe show, however staff is still working on case

      • Will be interesting to see how the NCAA enforces sitting periods.
If he had transferred in March or April, he would have been able to make a good case for not sitting(Florida is unsafe, I want to move closer to home, during the Covid pandemic, etc.)
But he transferred before Covid was a concern, so I dont know that there is much justification for getting a waiver other than pointing out the NCAA doesnt treat every waiver case equally.(see Tate Martell)

Still a chance they let him play, so i wouldnt give up all hope just yet.

Random hypothetical that while very unlikely is possible in MLB now:

Visiting pitcher goes 10 innings, faces 30 batters, gets all 30 batters out, loses game 1-0 (sac bunt, sac fly score runner from 2nd in top 10) is it a perfect game?

    Thoughts?

  12. I saw we set a new record for confirmed Covid19 cases in one day in the US today. Shattered the old record of 34K which was back on April 25th and no signs of slowing down.

So…what’s the over under on sports getting shut down again before any league is able to crown a champion?
NBA may end up moving to a 1-on-1 halfcourt tournament format by the playoffs.

    • 2
      1

Yeah, I’m dubious we even see MLB this year…
I’m getting more bearish for any NCAA football season, too. This could be brutal.

      • Sports will push forward. Golf is still going despite having players and caddies test positive. MLB is pushing forward even with their positive cases growing.

I’m fairly bullish that college football will happen. Maybe delayed and with no fans but it’ll happen. I’m hearing students will be on campus. Big lecture classes will be virtual but small under 30 classes will be in person. Could easily spread out in the bigger lecture halls since those will be virtual. I’d guess face masks will be on. Assume one dorm will be a quarantine dorm. Benton is in phase 2 so all of that would be allowed.

        • I’m not very concerned with Benton County, which has pretty much avoided Covid19 aside from a handful of cases.
Thinking of places like Texas/Arizona/Florida/Lousiana where it seems to really be flourishing now. Was hopeful summer heat would bring numbers down, but instead it seems the opposite is happening.
Somebody on here recently talked about the heat driving people indoors, which may be contributing. Also these 4 states opened up much earlier than some of the other highly populated states, so maybe it’s some combination of factors. Now the NE coast seems to be the place to be, which I wouldnt have guessed 2 months ago.
It’s just not trending favorably in several parts of the country.

          • I’m not sure Benton County has avoided the Covid. It has gone through most of the old folks homes. I think it was here earlier than thought. My speculation is rates are low because it arrived before widespread testing and the population is relatively healthy so hospitalization rates were low. But who knows.

        • That scenario is basically what I’ve heard from one school Dean, several professors and also the scuttlebutt with incoming freshman.

    • 2
      3

I’m guessing we are a week away from people taking masking and distancing seriously again. Once they do it should be a more sustainable situation. I’ll leave my projection off for peak daily cases since people always lose it.

Sports will probably happen anyways with required masking and reduced attendence. I think there’s a 0% chance we get enforced quarentine again.

Bend had 8-12 cars in the covid tent line all day yesterday.

      • What’s the covid tent? Is that drive thru testing?

Here in the mid-valley tests are getting hard to come by again. Wife says Samaritan way behind the curve at this point. Son currently waiting on results from test he did Tuesday. Legacy was doing Samaritan’s tests and they were up to a one week turn around. Luckily our lab client was able to onboard Samaritan to do testing starting this week.

I just saw a headline that said the ducks aren’t disclosing the number of athletes that tested positive for covid. I didn’t click the article because it’s the paper that shall not be named but sounds like a typical duck move. They always have to be loose butthole about everything just like their logo.

    • 2
      2

I don’t know why people can’t control their emotions. Then I look like the bad guy because people can’t follow basic rules. It says very clearly you can discuss that stuff in the prior thread. Unless covid relates to sports, don’t post about it here – use the prior thread.

I went and moved the posts to that thread. Just stop, because it takes time to do that, and I don’t want to spend time that way.

    • Already being done in the EPL and Bundesliga in soccer. NBC even has had some options to watch without crowd noise. I like the crowd noise even with empty seats. Definitely makes it feel more authentic.

  14. I thought my comment was subtle, and in line with Ducks testing issue in the spirit of a BG double entendre. I can’t help it if my compadres pile on. Have a great day – I’m walking and carrying for 36 in 92 degree heat. Lots of water and beer, but may not be in that order.

  15. The President of the University of Washington was party to the governor’s press conference yesterday, announcing that the state’s campuses will be open this fall. She was asked by a reporter about athletic events. Sensibly, she couched her response within the context of what the pandemic looks like at any particular time, then added: (1) that there is a continuous thread of dialogue with the other schools in the conference; (2) chances of a late August home opener at Husky Stadium are low; (3) chances are UW will just play within the conference; (4) fans might not be allowed to attend the games.

I think, right there, we have the prescription of what to look forward to. An 11 game, all-conference schedule, with fan attendance being an individual state/locality decision. My guess is that only OSU season-ticket holders, some 14,000 of us, will be allowed to attend with social distancing rules in place. Tailgating strictly regulated.

    • If fans are allowed to attend, I wonder if there will be blank seats required between each person, or at least each group (this makes more sense).

It will be weird watching on TV with no background noise if some teams go no fans. For OSU that would be normal to have no fan noise (zing), but not for the Huskies or Ducks.

      • OSU has been ahead of the game for the past few years. Renamed buildings for ties to slavery, cut ties with police force over perceived excessive force, now dropping a potential divisive term. Anything else left to fix?

        • 1
          3

I dunno did Benton hall get renamed already? I like the idea of taking down confederate monuments (sorry if I strayed into politics) I think leaving them up is attempting to rewrite history and glorify an event and cause that should never be forgotten but should also not be glorified or romanticized. But the term Civil War is generic and not in reference to the American Civil War. But at the end of the day people are gonna call the game the civil war, just means neither school will promote it as such. Just seems like it will make ticket sales and whatnot a little confusing. Wonder if OSU and UO try to come up with a new name or just don’t call the game anything?

          • Whoops civil war should not be capitalized in there when speaking in the generic sense, normally don’t bother to correct typos but seems to be important here

          • While Benton Hall was originally named after the county, due to community member support and fundraising, and not the Benton/slave holder guy, OSU did change the name to Community Hall a year (or maybe a little longer) ago.

Was just discussing with my daughter the renaming of the Civil War. Even as progressive as she is, she agrees, pretty dumb, and most people will still call it the Civil War.

        • Was anyone asking for this to be changed? Is anyone bothered by it? I’ve honestly never seen anything to indicate that was the case.

          • I don’t think anyone was. I made a case that it didn’t need to be changed as the term civil war isn’t exclusive to the US civil war. It’s a fairly generic term.

But in the end it’ll really only upsets one state. The rest of the US doesn’t care.

    • Per the GT
“A number of student-athletes, alumni and friends of Oregon State University have questioned the use of the term Civil War in our rivalry series in recent years. We initiated discussions with our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) about the possibility of eliminating the name ‘Civil War’ from our series and with their leadership, we are moving forward.

“We will embrace members of the university community, alumni, student-athletes, and friends of Oregon State to assist in a collaborative process with the University of Oregon to consider other names for this historic rivalry.”

OSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, made up of current student-athletes from every intercollegiate sports program, supports removing Civil War from the series. Former Beavers football standouts Steven Jackson and Ken Simonton are among prominent alumni who have also expressed approval and will be a part of the renaming process of the rivalry.”

While I understood the origin – always thought it was lame, given the state’s proximity to the Mason-Dixon line. Red River Shootout is no more as well. Just hope it is replaced with something a lot better – and forget the platypus.
Love the origin story of “The Axe” – something Cal originally stole from Stanford.

Maybe a replica of the “Golden Man” atop the capitol building? A Wagon Wheel (or another actual item from the period to signify the Oregon Trail)? Or perhaps a starter tree donated by state foresters that each university can plant to signify their victory totals? It would be great if the Oregon Historical Society stepped up and offered up something that would pre-date the first use of Civil War. If it becomes the Nike Cup or Les Schwab Cup – I’ll puke.

“Right is right, and wrong is wrong. I know the name seems harmless and it really is, but I applaud my university for changing the name due to its historical ties to war that had everything to do with racism. I am impressed with how OSU took action up to this point. Makes it easy to want to run through a brick wall for your school.”

He is right, it is harmless but the rest is just nonsense.

RE: the Civil War name change
I don’t have a problem changing the name. Because of my own story and ancestry maybe I’m more sensitive to something being called a war when it’s a game. Of course, I don’t have a constitutional right to not be offended. I’ll still watch even if they don’t change the name.

    • I like that take more than the racism arguement. I am ge really a pacificst and don’t enjoy romantizing violence. That said I did pitch beat down so what do I know.

  21. Lol… the O suggests as one of the names the Lane-Benton clash. Name it after two known racists? Lane county is even close to changing its name.

Will this be doc Ray’s last official act at OSU?
Ivory tower naivete or a middle finger to generations of alumni (and non-alums) who thought the games were, well…games, and a chance to needle your rival school.

No need to re-read 1984, just watch the current erasing of history whether good or bad. Lessons lost either way.

      • …Nothing is being erased
As regards the cw rivalry with the ucks I’d agree since the term never actually linked to the war between the states.
As regards the current sjw push to tear down statues, modify flags, and rename buildings and military installations, I stand by my 1984 reference.
Don’t want this to drift into another political series of rants, so I’ll just say we disagree and leave it at that. Last word is yours for the taking.

Since I have all these downvotes. Please explain how re-naming a military base for a hero instead of a traitor is “changing” history?

            I’ll wait

Idk, I’m still confused about the idea that taking down a Robert E. Lee statue suddenly erases the American Civil War from history books but I assume all the down voters have an excellent answer.

          • Lincoln offered Lee the command of the Federal Army.

Calling him a traitor is a bit of a stretch. Commander of the army of the losing side of a civil war is hardly a traitor. Had he been an actual traitor he would have been tried and hung after the war.

          • LOL, okay so now people are claiming Confederate’s aren’t traitors. Peak 2020 right there.

Robert E. Lee literally levied war against the United States

Honestly this is peak stupid to claim Confederates weren’t traitors but if that is the hill you want to die on so be it.

          • Not sure if you noticed, but the United States wasn’t the United States at that moment. It was kinda split north and south and in a civil war.

          • The penalty for treason is up to Congress.

Tell me, how does the Constitution define treason? And once you have, tell me how Robert E. Lee wouldn’t fit the definition?

Or admit you don’t actually care what the Constitution says.

            Both are fine by me.

And the United States were in fact still the United States during the Civil War, we literally held a Presidential election. How would that be possible if the United States wasn’t the United States?

Seriously, this might be the stupidest argument I’ve ever been in.

          • I’m all for taking down confederate status. But it seems this movement has been overtaken by mob mentality. They’re tearing down U.S. Grant statues, setting up assaults on the Emancipation Memorial, defaced memorials to black union troops. And now the generic civil war game is to racist to be used because??? the civil war was a win over racists not racist itself. You can’t see a slippery slope with this?

          • I agree the movement has gone too far at times, what do you expect?

My argument isn’t with that position (although I’d argue the positives of the movement are far outweighing the negatives).

My argument is with the claim that it is ‘erasing history’

Taking down a statue is NOT erasing history. Burning libraries is erasing history.

          • I dont know about erasing history. I do find it funny people get mad about tearing down statues that depict lossers. Its like UO putting up a mark helfrich statue out front of the toilet bowl. Id say a Avazzano or Fertig out front of here but thats more sad then funny.

          • Ooooohhh, an election.

How many of the southern “United States” got to vote in this election, or had their votes counted if they did?

I’ll wait while you Google it.

And you’re right, Congress decides the punishment for treason after a person has been convicted of it. So I’ll go ahead and respect the judgement of grand juries and the United States Congress of 1865 over the opinion of some man bun wearing liberal twat from 2020.

          • The moderator at Benny’s house got so frustrated he threatened to put the whole website in timeout.

            That’s not a suggestion Angry :)

          • WFO, whoever taught you about the Civil War failed you.

The reason Confederate’s weren’t charged with treason is because Robert E. Lee negotiated for amnesty for all Confederates and it was granted as long as they went home and caused more problems.

They were given amnesty for Treason. This is historical fact, not my opinion.

Jefferson Davis spend about 2 years in prison too.

But believe whatever nonsense you want.

        • Liberal twat Andrew Johnson Christmas Day 1868.

“unconditionally, and without reservation … a full pardon and amnesty for the offence [sic] of treason against the United States, or of adhering to their enemies during the late Civil War, with restoration of all rights, privileges, and immunities under the Constitution and the laws.”

But sure, I am the one that is clueless.

RE: the Civil War name change

Should change it to “Pond Wars”… then make a reality TV show out of it. (Get it? Beavers and Ducks – Pond? Okay, I go back to work now).

Party on the pond? Party at the pond? Nothing will carry the weight and meaning of the civil war. It was generally divisive in a friendly way in the state, and there was often a decent amount of sportmanship between the fan bases until Chip Kelly/Knight/ESPN made the Duck fan base quite vicarious and obnoxious.

What’s more disappointing to me is that it hasn’t been very “civil” or much of a “war” since Chip Kelly was head coach at UO. There’s been what, 3 – 4 competitive games since, with OSU winning one? Many beatdowns.

          Are puns allowed?:

Biggest Dam Game of the Season? (ducks benefit from the industrious, dam building habits of the beaver, THE oregon state mammal…).
          The Dam Classic?
          THE Dam Ball Game?

The I-5 Barn Burner (plenty of barns in the Willamette valley, though the game has often been a snoozer). You have to imagine Kieth Jackson saying that…..”Whoa Nelly! We got a barn burner here today folks! Jemar Jefferson saw the light of day and he was GONE!”

Whatever ends up being named, show up and make it competitive Smith. And win more than you lose.

UW and WSU damn well better be changing the name of the Apple Cup. Everyone knows apples are associated with Isaac Newton, and I’m sure everyone knows that Isaac Newton was a shareholder in the South Sea Company which traded slaves. Seems like an easy decision to me.

  25. New thread up. Please share with friends/family and invite them to come comment and share their thoughts — I want all takes on this. It’s very upsetting.

  26. What the WHat?

And I’ll say it – Calabro is the best announcer the team has ever had (radio or TV). It bugs me that this market still seems to prefer “homers” over truly great professional announcers. Glad the Beavs still have Mike Parker – the rare triple threat (hoops, football and baseball) who does them all very differently and very well.
