Here is the scouting report of the Grizzlies:

Montana enters the game with a 5-4 record with wins over Montana Tech, Idaho, Cal State Fullerton, UCLA and Great Falls. The win over the Bruins was at fabled Pauley Pavilion and the Grizzlies first-ever win in five tries against UCLA. The Grizzlies went 22-10 last season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament by winning the Big Sky Conference tournament. Montana battled No. 3 seed New Mexico throughout the first round game before falling 62-57. Sophomore guard Will Cherry leads the team in scoring (15.3) and assists (3.7) and is first in the nation in steals (4.1). Senior center Brian Qvale is averaging 13.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, while junior forward Derek Selvig is a 7-footer who can shoot from three-point range and is averaging 10.2 points per game. Junior guard Jordan Wood and freshman forward Kareem Jamar round out the starting five.

There is no TV or live stream for this game. You might want to try KPAM for an audio feed: http://www.kpam.com/features/sports.php

I'm not sure if they're broadcasting it tonight.

As far as the game, expect the Beavers to get blown out of the building. They haven't played well on the road, and the Grizzlies are a disciplined team with confidence after the UCLA victory. They'll be looking to take down another Pac team and build their post season resume. Roberto Nelson is a wild card who can keep them in this game. He should play better on the road without all the eyes and expectations upon him.

    • Thanks, the feed is working well. Quality does not seem to be has nice as the one the Beavers do at home. This announce is going to drive me insane. I will have to check if the KPAM broadcast is synched up.

  1. I think we match up pretty well with Montana. The problem for us is that we don’t recognize and shut down the hot hand. But it’s easier with our defense if the hot hand is the PG. Montana’s strengths are the PG and the C. They have a wing who feeds off the success of the other two. To shut them down, we need to force perimeter play from the point and wings, and we need to take care of the ball on O.

I would expect to see a lot of Brandt in this game to mark their C. McShane and maybe Brown should see some time on the defensive blocks as well. If Brandt and Burton can stay out of foul trouble, we have a good chance to beat on their PG with the 1-3-1… and to beat on their C with the fouls to give in McShane and Brown.

This has to be one of the poorest assessments I’ve read in a while. Omari is anything but an interior presence. That’s one of my biggest gripes to date. He did play the short corner two or three times against UTPA, and that really helped the offense with spacing. So maybe he’s getting it now.

    • I think that was just a case of just reading the stats and not knowing anything about the team. I think the Beavers will stay close I don’t think they will win though. They haven’t played well on the road. They seem to come out with the wrong mentality during road games. If they come out ready to play and play smart they can win but on the road you never know.

      • I know Omari scores mostly lay-ups and treys, so that’s probably the case in that scouting report. Imagine what an opposing coach would think if one of his scouts gave him that info. He’d find a big guarding Omari 20′ away in the corner, and wonder how all those transition lay-ins didn’t get reported.

  2. No interior defense so far. Montana looks like they handle the ball pretty well, so I don’t think the Beavs are going to have a turnover advantage either. Couple of homer calls already.

    • The Beavs definitely got homed. I saw the game live and in person and, for example, Joe Burton was called for a couple of fouls where it would have made as much sense to call them on me – sitting in the 2nd tier.

    • RN is definitely a presence on the court, but I thought Jared Cummingham did a good job – scrapped for a loose ball or two – kept some balls from going out-of-bounds. In comparison to Montana’s team, the Beavs looked so young.

  3. Saw Roberto’s three point shooting there that will be nice to see this year. I like how Jared is not hesitating on shooting the 3 ball now, he had been real hesitant all year. Clearly this team is better when Roberto is on the floor.

    • I know…”he only averages 4 points” lol
He just said “The upset seems very real”

What upset!? Montana is a seven point favorite, idiot.

  4. OK, this announcer is terrible. A Big Sky tourney team should beat a middle of pack P-10 team on the road.

Also, what was that last 50 seconds, did Coach Rob even care about winning or losing? We would still be watching the game, if he applied proper foul strategy.

  5. Craig is a fucking moron. No other way around it, he’s just dumb.

I mean you are down by two or three possessions with a minute to play and you let them run the 35 second clock all the way down without fouling, but then you call a timeout with 7 seconds left and down by 5? Someone please help me understand this before I go insane. When does baseball start?

  6. Finally, I was proud to be a Beaver fan – there were perhaps 8-9 others – a small contingent from, I’m guessing, Corvallis, and a couple of others wearing OSU hats.

So, there were about 4500 screaming Montana patriots.

The contingent didn’t seem to make any noise although they had a couple of signs.

Don’t forget, the Beavs came back from 11 points down in the first part of the game – 11 down due largely to passes to Brian Qvale – Montana’s 6′ 11″ senior who seemed only to have to stand there and tip in the ball.

The Beavs seemed to rebound better and some 3-pointers went in. Angus Brandt scored points on shots that looked like they didn’t have a chance.

The Beavs didn’t get blown away and it would have been easy to do in that environment.

    • I thought they played well and lost. It’s easy to digest that kind of game, but frustrating knowing they were a few plays away from being on the good side of the ledger.
