Game times:

  • Friday 5:05
  • Saturday 12:35 and 3:00
  • Sunday 1:05

Rotation is as follows:

  • Friday: (RHP Moore 1-1, 0.89) vs. (RHP Anderson 1-1, 3.38)
  • Saturday (game 1): (LHP Fry 2-0, 2.82) vs. (LHP Ruckman 0-3, 6.75)
  • Saturday (game 2): (RHP Schultz 2-1, 1.99) vs. (TBA) 3:
  • Sunday: (LHP Wetzler 1-0, 1.17) vs. (RHP Klonowski 0-0, 4.67)

At 10-3, Beavs are holding their own, but have dropped one slot to #5 in Baseball America due to a few bad loses. Two biggest issues I’ve seen: they need to tighten up the defense ASAP, and Pat Casey needs to figure out his lineup. With  Moore, Fry, Schultz and Wetzler throwing, the odds are good for a 5-0 week.

Go Beavs!

  1. What will draw more people on Sat? The baseball game or basketball game?

Women’s basketball who have assured themselves a spot in the tourney, play tonight as well. Playing for a better seed now.

    • Odds are they’ll have to go through Cal and/or Stanford to win the conf tourney (kind of duh, right?). But they played both those teams in early January so curious to see how they stack up against them now playing their best ball of the year. They are peaking at the right time. I don’t normally follow womens hoops but I may tune in tonight.

  2. Jim Wilson saying he can’t watch a game without a centerfield camera. Pretty much how all fans feel. Wish they didn’t change the cameras for the stream. Was much better before

    • Looking like himself as a freshman. Awful at-bats. He’s trying to pull everything and swinging at every breaking ball. Played really well in the Cape Cod league but he looks lost right now

  3. Beavs win 6-0. Wetzler pitched great and like a man who knows he’s innocent. With him and Moore and some timely hitting this team should host a superregional and be in poisition for an Omaha run like Ben came back for. That and the women making an NCAA run will likely be the big feats for this Oregon State spring.

  4. Davis drops to 5, Clark in 4 hole, Keyes batting 6…interesting move. I would have flip flopped Keyes to 5 and Davis to 6. Get Keyes on and let Davis hit him in.

    • the Casey system at work; not performing, down (or out of) the line-up you go . The way to move back up: get some hits. Davis delivers with the homer. Let’s see if Pat moves him up for the second game.

  5. The walk in game 1 has given Dylan some confidence. Hit a home run the following at-bat and starting to to drive the ball the other way and not chasing breaking pitches like he had been

  6. Ended up a 7 inning affair, 12-2 Beavs. Virginia splits a DH, Florida state loses to Maryland, Fullerton loses to Baylor, Miss St loses it’s 3rd straight, and ucla loses again. Gamecocks remain unbeaten at 14-0. tOSU up 1-0 in the 7th to Nike U.

  7. Davis indeed pitching. An adventurous first. Leadoff single, a K, runner caught stealing, a two out walk and a fly ball to end it.

  8. Davis lines out to ss, Howard with sac fly. Jarmon comes to the plate with two on and two out and lines one back to the p. End of 1, Beavs up 3-0

  9. Davis’ fastball at 90-93. Still has trouble finding the zone with his curve. Loads the bases with a HBP, single and BB. After a visit by Nate he gets out of the jam with a K and 6-3 groundout.

NIU starter is gone in the b2 after issuing his 3rd BB (plus 2 HBP)

  10. This one could go 4 hours. Beavs load the bases with two out and Howard pops out. Conforto with an RBI double. 4-0 at the end of 2.

  11. NIU pitchers walk the bases loaded and Clark and Davis make them pay. It’s 9-0 Beavs. No word on the mercy rule. Two on and nobody out in the 6th.

  12. Conforto HBP with bases juiced drives in a run. Clark follows with a 2 run double and Dylan Davis’ 2 run single makes it 9-0 Beavers in the bottom of the 6th

  13. Max E still looking for last year’s form. Pitched to the minimum in the 9th but went 3-2 to the leadoff batter before striking him out. Walked the next batter on 4 pitches but ended the inning fielding the comebacker and starting the 1-6-3 DP.

  14. OT: Would Moreland really be that silly to come out in this years super deep draft?? He likely wouldn’t be drafted at all ( or late 2nd) and spend a career floating from D league to over seas.

Whereas he could spend the summer working on his ball handling, shooting and maybe learn a post move or two and play his way into the first round or in a perfect world into the lottery next year.

Seems like the no brainer move for him to come back for his senior year

    • I agree. There are enough somewhat polished players available. I’m not sure why anyone would waste a draft pick on such a rough project. Unless he knows he won’t be able to abstain from offseason puff puff passing and runs to high a risk of getting the boot.

      • I like how CR says LMW had to sit out Saturday because “an incident takes place and he’s suspended for breaking university rules, not my rules.”

I’m curious why DUII is not against CR’s rules?

      • there’s some crazy ass shit in there since his DUI….”Livestock at large”

how did an LA boy like me end up in Corvallis?

        • How about this one:

3/8/2014 11:23:57AM 230 S 5TH ST DARIMART MONROE THEFT 2ND DEGREE On Saturday March 8, 2014 at about 11:15 am Complainant reported 350 pounds of copper wire (scrap value of 402.50) out of the bed of his Ford F250 while it was parked in front of the Dari Mart in Monroe.

Are there some Samoan Tweeker’s on the loose? Who the hell in the middle of the day has the strength to yard out a 350lb spool of copper wire while someones stopped at a convenience store? As Tyrone Biggums would say: Thanks Red Balls, Ooooooo

          • At least that explains why the owner of the truck didn’t see anything while inside. You have to park on the side of the building and walk around the front to get in there.

It wouldn’t be hard to roll a spool (or lift a couple) off one full size into an equal or smaller bed.

        • Now that I read the report, he drove past the cop shop, turned between it and the jail and took a left at the courthouse… to be stopped in front of Benton Hotel.

I don’t care if the law is bad or if the reason for pulling him over was lazy. He picked the absolute worst spot in the whole town to make a driving error.

I also don’t know why anyone would submit to a breathalyzer. The damn things have a margin of error of about 50%. And that’s before it picks up on false positives.

          • Breathalyzer or blood testing

“(1) A person commits the offense of driving while under the influence of intoxicants if the person drives a vehicle while the person:
            (a) Has 0.08 percent or more by weight of alcohol in the blood of the person as shown by chemical analysis of the breath or blood of the person made under ORS 813.100 (Implied consent to breath or blood test), 813.140 (Chemical test with consent) or 813.150 (Chemical test at request of arrested person);
            (b) Is under the influence of intoxicating liquor, a controlled substance or an inhalant; or
            (c) Is under the influence of any combination of intoxicating liquor, an inhalant and a controlled substance.”

          • Not necessarily… refusing a chemical test is. A breath test is considered one, but you should also have the choice between breath and blood. Blood is accurate. Breath doesn’t even read alcohol. It reads the whole spectrum of methyl class substances in breath. And it’s highly inaccurate. That’s why they can’t test you if you say you threw something up into your mouth or even recently belched. Stomach acids can give a false reading. Holding your breath before you take it can give a false reading. Eating breath mints and especially inhaling auto exhaust can give false positives.

In this case, he admitted (never admit anything to police) to drinking something. So even a blood test would have likely resulted in the same result. But it also would have given a correct BAC, and it could have been .01%, legal for even minors… which is a stupid law IMO. That’s how wildly inaccurate breath tests are.

I know a lawyer who successfully defends DWIs all the time. He tells his clients to only roll down the car window enough to hand over requested info and to never submit to a sobriety or chemical test period. Apparently losing one’s license is very much less a problem than DWII. And DWII has become a racket in recent years.

It’s a stupid and dangerous thing to do. But people get nicked for blowing 0.00% and admitting nothing just because the police have all the power. The above recommendations are IMO very valid if you know you’re innocent. If you’re drunk, I suggest you just stumble out in the road and puke on the cop’s shoes.

          • I have always wondered if you have the right to demand a blood test. DUI is a money making racket. Diversion is expensive, the pigs wrote my friend up a few years back for blowing .03 then told him it wouldn’t go on his record if he paid his fines and went to diversion. I told him to hire a lawyer but he just forked over thousands of dollars instead.

  15. “It was his second suspension in two years. Morris-Walker was suspended one game last season for allegedly trying to steal a T-shirt from a campus bookstore.”

SMH seriously?? With all the free swag they get? I just hope it wasn’t an OSU T Shirt

  16. Kid stands on lawn with beer in front of fraternity. Cop stops car and summons kid to cross sidewalk to meet cop car. Cop then tickets kid for open container on public property. Corvallis.

  17. watching USF/BYU in the WCC tournament. How about Rex Walters? Young guy, hasn’t done too badly and USF has gotten better every year since he’s been there.

    • That’s a major no.

First, USF has pretty much mirrored OSU for the last six years in terms of records except for this year.

Second, Walters has pretty much done to USF hoops what Bone did to PSU… without the NCAA trips. Well… that’s a little hyperbole. But he has shuffled through a ton of players (literally two tons) while at USF. And some of the stories are a little weird.

      • hence why I asked as I don’t know much about him but he seems to have had some success at USF. Still like Leon Rice but I think he winds up in Pullman after Boner gets the axe

        • Fair enough. He had carte blanche at USF when he came in, so he flushed the system… as any new coach is wont to do unless taking over for someone who left the program in a top 20 condition. I think some 18 players have transferred in his time. And that doesn’t include several who were told they wouldn’t be granted another year under a ship once he got there.

I honestly don’t know why USF doesn’t go after a big name coach and fly away. The campus is on the most primo spot in the best part of one of the best cities in the world. The architecture is gorgeous, and academic support for anyone seeking a degree is superb. War Memorial is the perfect arena for hoops in that setting (with a couple upgrades). And they have a rich hoops history with some of those alums still alive and kicking. They should be recruiting better than most of the Big East (or whatever conference they are now) parochial schools.

I think the best recent hire was Larry Brown at SMU. The AD there hit two grand slams with one swing, and it’s now going to pay off for the school as a whole.

  18. LMW will not be charged with DUI

Christian Stringer, Benton County chief deputy district attorney, said Tuesday that he decided Monday not to file criminal charges after reviewing the case. On his breath test early Friday, Morris-Walker registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.04, half the legal limit of 0.08 and a level that Stringer said would make it difficult to prove a case for driving under the influence of intoxicants.

    http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2014/03/beavers_langston_morris-walker.html#incart_more_sports

      • I don’t care what anyone says. .04 BAC is not impaired enough to be charged with a DUII. Yet it still happens to people everyday. When a judge doesn’t get prosecuted for blowing .06, the same standard should apply to EVERYONE. There’s a reason the legal limit is .08. It’s BS they only have to prove you were impaired even if you blow a .05. Who’s a jury going to believe? You or a cop? As we all know, police NEVER lie to sway a jury to get a conviction. The law states .08 is the legal limit. .08 and over should equal DUII. .07 or less should not. Don’t like it, make the legal BAC lower.

Never been pulled over for suspicion of DUI nor ever gotten one either.

        • Especially in Corvallis… I had an incident where I was in the car making out with this girl and a fight broke out behind the car. . As soon as I stepped out of the car to see what the hell was going on ( should have just stayed inside) I got sprayed with mace. Having no idea who maced me I took of staggering/ running. Finally after I stumbled a few feet an officer finally yelled ( police get on the ground)…

They gave me a disorderly conduct ticket. When the police report emerged the officer who sprayed the mace wrote that I came out from the car and started kicking ( the victim) in the head!!! Luckily I knew the guy who got beat up and he testified in court and never laid a hand nor a foot on him and the charge was dropped. The audacity of the CPD to completely falsify a report like that was really eye opening for me. Think I was 19 at the time.

          • exactly. Police lie. All the time. Anyone that thinks otherwise has their head buried up their ass. It’s not about right and wrong anymore. It’s about money

        • If they push a DUI in a situation, it might depend on what happened. If you caused a wreck, and blew .04, it’s going to be easier to push a DUI conviction and harder to defend that alcohol didn’t play a role in the crash.

    • He should consider himself lucky. While I agree with the decision, he demonstrated poor thinking in even driving that late at night. Maybe he never does this again because he rightly thinks he just won the lottery.

And if he was headed for fast food, he should consider himself doubly lucky for not getting to ingest that shit.

That reminds me… is there a decent burger in Corvallis? I’ve spent years looking for one here in Eugene, and I think I’ve found two. But consistency is a problem with both. I like the Chief in Coburg and a dive in Springfield called Get-n-Go. The first is more consistently good while the second seems to depend on who is behind the counter. The first is a skinny pattie, and the second is thick. But both can be mauled and get the order wrong, and they’re still better than anything else I can find in this deity-forsaken strip mall of a town.

        • That looks like an incomplete list. I’m not really sold on Killer Burger… or any other on that list except Rock House and maybe Tilt. They’re just good burgers, not great. You can just go to Red Coach and get the same fare.

I’m surprised Little Big Burger isn’t on this list. It seems like a popular place. I can’t stand truffle oil, so I don’t like their fries. Brunch Box is another hipster type joint I would have thought got popular votes in a poll like this. And it is better than all the others here. I’m also surprised the Virginia Cafe isn’t on the list. It’s another standard burger, but fans of the place love to hype it on polls like this.

I had a really really good burger out at the food carts on Belmont a couple months ago. I can’t remember the name of the cart. All I remember is that it’s red, and the menu is funky good and the posted hours are funny. We were headed to the Horse Brass to meet friends and had about an hour to find a quick dinner first, and this place was damn good. But again… truffle oil in the garlic mayo and on some sides? At least she had a good sauce that was tomato/pepper based, not some “special” sauce made of mayo and ketchup.

      • there is nowhere in Corvallis to get a decent burger. However, in Philomath there is a little mom and pop stand in the Shell station that opened last fall called Willy’s gateway grub. Pretty tasty burgers in there. But the owner of the shell station is a prick

      • For a restaurant burger I like Sky High Brewery in Corvallis and First Burger in Albany.
        http://skyhighbrewing.com/
        http://thefirstburger.com/

A good burger has to use fresh high quality beef and these two are about the only places that don’t try to pass off frozen Sysco patties for their burgers around here.

I think a drive in style/ semi fast & inexpensive burger only place could do well in Corvallis.

          • Bob’s was a pretty good standard burger. Squirrel’s and Murphy’s have always been decent as well. I generally don’t rave about brewpub burgers all that much, but maybe I’ll try the Sky High sometime.

Corvallis just needs a good burger shop… something equivalent to University Hero, only for burgers.

          • Just to add nothing to the conversation:

I was in NYC recently and we went to a burger place called BRGR. At this place if you don’t specify how you want your burger cooked it comes medium rare. Raw hamburger=fucking disgusting.

  19. Yeske with a short leash today. Jackson with HBP and a single and with runners at the corners in comes Mak Fox. Gets a ground ball to end the inning.

  20. Fox gives up 2 infield hits, one erased on a DP. With 2 down and runner at first buckeyes put the hit and run on and the runner is called out at the plate from the Morrison relay from Conforto. It didn’t look like Ice had the ball in the glove but then the runner might not have touched the plate.

Beavs look bad at the plate and go in order.

  21. Beavs get the go-ahead run on an RBI single by Davis. Beavs load the bases with one out and don’t score. Hamiton fouls out, Howard grounds out.

  22. Fox retired 7 in a row before giving up a one out single in the 7th. Yeskie with the hook. Fox 3.2 IP gave up 4 hits, no runs, didn’t walk a batter and 0 Ks.

  23. Shelton comes in to start the 8th after Belding served up the DP to end the 7th. LHP Shelton gives up a leadoff triple to the LHB. Wow, tOSU batter flies out to shallow RF on a 3-0 pitch. Pop up to Morrison for the second out. Popped out to shallow CF and tOSU strands a leadoff triple.

  24. Beavs win 4-3. Shelton walks the leadoff man but gets a K and then Ice throws out the runner trying to steal. Fly ball to Conforto ends it. Not the best performance but came through with the W.
