  1. Not sending the runners with a full count and it results in a double play. Awful. Casey and Yeskie were badly out coached in by Irvine and the bats stunk. Most disappointing season in quite a while

    • correction. Most disappointing ending to a season in awhile. The regular season wasn’t much of a disappointment. But yes, I am disappointed as to how it ended tonight. Time for some napkins

      • That’s true, was a great season up until the last few weeks. The offense completely disappeared. They could never have significant rallies in multiple innings the last month. Hitters mailed in at-bats and some players hit in wrong spots, IMO. Didn’t see the kind of fight you would expect from a team this good. The effort offensively was piss poor. Team had the potential to win it all and instead went quietly in regional. Shitty way to end the season. What makes this worse for me is the team will be nowhere near as good next season. Wetzler, Keyes, Schultz are gone for sure and Conforto, Davis, Fry are all very likely gone. They had their chance this year and the players and coaching staff blew it.

          • Many have Conforto projected as a top 10 pick. I think that’s a reach for any college position player this year except maybe the Kennesaw C. But he shouldn’t fall beyond 15 if he doesn’t go top 10.

  2. Offense was brutal at the end of the season, bullpen was crappy all year, scrappy team (with douchey fans that brought their big yaps) came to play…the end.

    • Oh, don’t worry, Beavs will be the story line for the next week-two weeks…

“The #1 team in the country, the Oregon State Beavers, were knocked out in their home regional.”

  3. I didn’t get to watch this year’s team as much as in the past (thank you p-12 network and Directv), but I’m not impressed by the offense. Lots of guys looking for walks and it didn’t seem like many of them even have gap power. You can only win so many games scoring 2 or 3 runs and it bit them in the ass at tournament time.

    • Only Conforto and Davis have power. And they’re both gone. Next year is gonna be tough with only one starting pitcher in Moore returning and he will be the Friday night guy. Closer Schultz is gone too. Next year is gonna be really tough.

Needs: 2 starters. A closer. Middle pitching relief, 1st and 3rd basemen, a few hitters with more than warning track or gap power, can we trade or DFA Reser?

      • All may not be lost…

Who knows what lurks in the bullpen, have they really ever been given the opportunity to see if they can perform? Maybe the loss of Boyd, Jace, Wetz forces Casey’s hand.

And similarly, if this series/regional/embarrassment has shown anything, it’s that hoping for the guys with power to come to the rescue, isn’t a winning recipe either, if those guys are gripping the damn bat so hard they splinter it, or leave it on their shoulder. Those dicks at UCI won with everyone playing good, smart ball…no heroes in sight.

        • Bullpen will stink next year too. Yeskie has consistently showed that he can’t develop arms in the ‘pen. He’s gotten lucky with Boyd and Schultz, but aside from that it’s been ugly the last 3 seasons. I have zero confidence in Yeskie developing a bullpen next season. I’ll have to see it to believe it

          • THAT’S BECAUSE YESKIE IS TOO BUSY CHUGGING GOLD SCHLAGER AND DRIVING AROUND THE HIGH SCHOOLS OF CORVALLIS IN HIS CONVERTIBLE IROC. FUCK THAT GUY!

      • Casey always seems to have enough talent in waiting to make the tournament, but I wonder if next year will be a bigger drop off then we’ve seen in the past? It was a weird year in the P-12 with UCLA and Arizona way down and Washington coming out of nowhere. The Beavs missed a huge opportunity this season that I don’t think is going to come around any time soon.

    • Exactly. I feel bad for Ben, Jace and Andrew. They deserve better with the year that they had. Moore was just hitting his stride too

  4. O…..S….U…. bites, bites, bites!! Wave your arms in the letters like a spaz until tired, bored or sheepishly embarrassed.

The good news is that there are less than three months until football season when the real frustration begins. Good night now. JB

    • This is low class for you Bo… er… boner.

And I’ll call it now. OSU wins the CW this year. That doesn’t mean football won’t be frustrating for us. It just means it will be frustrating for us both if it is.

  5. One thing that really bugged me about this regional, was irvine having two starting pitchers and a starting catcher who played for Corvallis knights. And there were other things about the regional format that bugged me, seeing it from the eyes of the #1 national seed fan for the first time.

  6. OSU offense disappeared? It never really existed minus #8 and #10. And then #8 disappeared.

And keep knocking Casey…he single handedly changed the face of NCAA baseball. (still laughing) “Moper”. Find someone who is more competitive than him. Know-it-alls. You think coaching a game from a TV is the same as coaching from a dugout?

    • Saying the offense was all Conforto and Davis is completely false. Hendrix had a great year, so did Keyes and Clark. Big reason the offense struggled in the regional was Peterson hitting in front of Conforto. He was awful. He can’t hit and even his bunting was poor. He killed a lot of rallies and truthfully had no business hitting in the 2 hole. That’s on Casey. He has to realize Peterson is a 9 hole hitter. Your best hitters are supposed to hit at the top and middle of the order. You can’t put arguably your weakest bat near the top. You put Morrison there and that changes a lot of things. Nobody is saying he isn’t a great coach or that he hasn’t accomplished some amazing things, but it’s okay to admit when he was badly out coached. UCI was aggressive from the coaches to the players. That aggressiveness never stopped all regional. Felt a way more passive approach from the Beavers and that includes Casey. He had a rough regional along with the rest of his coaching staff and I think that’s a fair thing to say.

  7. So Rupp and Gottlieb are two assistants.

Anyone want to guess who the third will be?

I’m going to go with Pat Strickland.

  8. I think the bracket this year just shows how much parity there is this season. A ton of quality teams and not really any dominate ones. Tough to lose but so did 5 other national seeds. We would have had a hard time beating oSu they are on a roll.

I agree Casey seemed out coached at times. But the team just didn’t do all the little things necessary. Moving to third base on a wild pitch, running home on a grounder to second baseman, not swinging on third strike. There was/is not that separates these teams so need to do win those 50-50 situations and the guys didn’t enough.

    • I think their suicide squeeze with the bases loaded pretty much summed up the difference in the game. They were the aggressors to the point that they didn’t force mistakes on our part. But they did make us play more defense due to their aggression. They didn’t watch first pitch strikes meander past them at the plate. They put it in play and took their chances.

Good luck to them going forward.

  9. This one stings. I love college baseball and always have. I really thought that we were a lock to go to Omaha and had not considered that we may not make it this year. Now it seems there is nothing to be optimistic about in the entire athletic department. I don’t see the football team doing much this year and hoops will be a disaster. I hope Casey can bring back a winner next year as the talent drain may be large. Bummed today big time!

    • I never, ever thought they would win the CWS but surely thought the team would make it to super regionals. Victories just got harder and harder. I wasn’t a fan of the pitchers going into the 120s, Conforto seemed to have trouble with good pitchers and watching first pitch strikes go by drove me mad – especially during the first Washington game.

I hope the money is coming fast and furious for the stadium upgrade – it might not be so easy in the next couple of years.

I thought Jake Thompson did well – not really fair to put him in that spot, but . . .

  10. Fellow AB’s now that the CWS is history and there is a two month lag before we start bitching about how bad the football team looks in opening camp, how about taking some time for a little self improvement??

Introducing ROSETTABONE. For a limited time Pettibonehead Low-Performance Labs will make our remarkable learning methods available to all AB’s.

    • The soul of a fan can endure only so many traumatic and humiliating losses per calendar year. Everyone has their own tolerances for pain & disappointment. Most Beaver fans are content with meandering aimlessly through the seemingly endless dark tunnel of confusion and rage. With no light at either end. Instead, we’re stuck with a bunch of fair weather fans and assholes like Jack who think they’re gracing everyone with their presence & vast knowledge. Beavers have a way of always bringing their fans back to earth as soon as possible. And on we go into another season of utter disappointment and inexplicable ineptitude.

  11. I can’t imagine the disappointment felt by the baseball team today. I am totally bummed as I had planned on making the easy drive to Omaha for the first weekend like last year. There will be a lot of what ifs going through their minds. A window and a dog pile? Two stupid acts that may have changed history for this team. Ben does not get suspended and perhaps he is pitching the second game instead of Fry. I don’t think he gets beat this year. Peterson goes out and the O goes from questionable to bad and he is beyond rusty for the big weekend without his best asset, his speed.

Hard to see the team not being middle of the PAC next year. Losing some serious talent on the mound and in the outfield. This has the same feel to me as the CW loss in 09. Everything seemed to line up perfectly this year and we fall short. Probably be several years from having a team like this again. Very depressing to be a Beaver fan today.

    • Yeah that’s awesome. Beavs are projected to be ranked within 10-15 spots behind the top 25. Sweet! Mannion to Mullaney all day!!! Can’t believe they think receiving will struggle without Cooks!

    • He provides of lot of historical detail, and while some of the trends are interesting (defense anyone?), much of the detail is not useful (“…their 3 MLBs were all inj’d in ’11…”) for the current year. His format is nearly unreadable, and it looks like his mother does the page layout and processing for him on an old iMac with very affordable third party word processing software….all of which gets us to:

“They will top LY’s 7 win total and could be a surprise contender in the North.”

      • “Coaches: There are only 5 HC’s who have been at the same school longer than Mike Riley has been here…DC Mark Banker is in his 14th season overall (12th as DC) and was also here during Riley’s first stint (DB cch ’97-’98”

  12. Another ROSETTABONE testimonal:

From slamadan “after taking the keyboarding class i learned there are keys for capitol letters punctuation and even paragraphs i dont use them because i think theyre stupid and take too much time”

  13. Slightly different point of view. Giving green light to Davis on 3-0 in two big games was aggressive but backfired. IMO taking first pitch was absolutely necessary all year due to poor plate discipline, inability to judge balls and strikes by hitters. The only reason Ice hits that long double was because Washington knew that he was taking pitches all year long. Clark, for all his ability to drive the ball, cannot judge balls and strikes at this time. Morrison, Peterson, Hamilton strike out way too much for slap hitters and therefore needed to get on anyway possible including bb. Being “outcoached” by UCI is in the eye of the beholder and kind of like backseat driving or cookbook chemistry. There was very little margin for error in Beaver pitching. They could not and did not generate enough base runners all year long, got burned by putting guys in motion and were criticized for putting guys in motion earlier in the year
. This finish was destined from the beginning.

  14. Disappointing but whatever. There were flaws with this team and they weren’t hot at the right time. Peterson’s injury was devastating because he clearly wasn’t the same after and he is usually a big part of what they do on offense. Instead he was totally ineffective and couldn’t even get on base.

Next year will undoubtedly be a down year compared to this one but there is hope, depending on how the draft goes. Casey signed something like 7 of the top 10 high school kids in the NW. Hopefully the majority come to school because it could be a great recruiting class.

At least they went down with 5 other national seeds and it wasn’t as bad as Florida and Florida State both of which got swept out without winning a game.

  15. I didn’t expect them to win this game without a weekend starter on the mound. The offense just wasn’t there. This next year in sports is going to be brutal. Football will be terrible, Baseball will be middle of the Pac, and Basketball has 2-3 players worthy of a D1 jersey. Might be a good idea if we all check back in at this time, next year.

      • That is really great news! What a generous man. Such welcome news on an otherwise shitty Beaver day. I really hope someone from the AD is reading this blog because Jack has revealed a detailed formula that could turn this 1 million dollar donation into a 15 million dollar donation!

          • One million with a conservative 9% annual return over 30 years? It’s not that hard if that’s your only vehicle.

Did yoo lurn math in skool?

          • You’re one to talk.

You don’t bother to counter with anything constructive, and you’re thinking you deserve a polite discourse?

You reap what you sow stalker boy… with an honest answer to boot. That’s likely more than you deserve.

          • Why must I counter? I’m am not sure where this turned into an argument. I wasn’t second guessing your methods, I just don’t know how to apply the math. I guess you don’t accept compliments well. No wonder most people here think you are a dick. You attack people who credit you. Tough way to go through life.
I hope you have an easier time getting over last night’s game than I am. Go Beavs!

          • And now you want to try patronizing the whole board while also trying to give me the business yet again?

You really think everyone here is that stupid? This ain’t no Duck forum stalker boy. You troll here, you don’t get banned. You get trolled right back.

I can tell you’re not used to this type of freedom.

          • And you being a pretend English grad should know better. Why must you counter?

You mustn’t counter at all, but you do. You just do so with nothing constructive and with worse than what you complain about me. That makes you a grade A hypocrite.

          • And if all you can do is stalk me with posts worse than anything I’ve ever done to you and only in defense of mucking Ducks, then your claim of being an OSU alumnus is disingenuous due to your recent actions. You’ve been here for four years, so I’m willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. But your last couple weeks of posts have gone decidedly Ducky.

          • Are you paranoid? I think you just went off the rails!! How are my posts Ducky? Does your psychiatrist know that you are off your antipsychotics?

          • Your recent actions are here for all to see. You have recently decided to attack me only when I’m playing with Ducks. I infer your love for them as a result.

          • Funny. I haven’t posted for the last several weeks. I was in Costa Rica and completely off the grid. You should try it sometime, might quiet the voices in your head and lower your blood pressure.

          • A couple weeks before last week. Right. So I overstated by one week. But for one solid week you’ve been stalking me only when I play with Ducks. Then you pretend to play the victim when you get back what you give. Then you call me out. Then you patronize the whole board.

            Then you call me paranoid.

            You’re wrong.

I’m amused. This is rather fun watching you writhe in your own words. You’ve set your trap, but you can’t get out. You’re the one who drove this sub-thread into the dirt. I’m not the one pretending I’m above the muck I create here stalker boy.

          • So a quick look back in time shows you’re using beaverbeliver’s email for this particular character…

… or is it one of his five or so co-workers who he claimed must have hi-jacked his handle at work when his hi-jacked handle pretended to be angry’s handle?

          • And… now as I look back at those threads I can see that you kept responding to me only after I was playing with a Duck troll… and always in defense of the Duck.

So I apologize for accusing you of only doing it for the last week. It seems you have always and forever done so.

If it walks like a Duck… it probably poops in the grass.

          • Wow! OSU4life just got “Jacked”! In my day we would say that you got “taken behind the wood shed and whooped”. Don’t mess with Jack you mental midget. You can’t hang with guys like us!

            LP

  16. This Basball loss is sad, but like some above say, was not unexpected. Late season the hitting went in the toilet and we had only 4 good pitchers. It was essential to stay in the winner’s bracket but the hitting didnt allow it.

One could see what seemed to be coaching errors, and surely a lack of aggressive play. The team didnt act like it wanted to go to Omaha. Maybe a no 1 ranking went to their heads. Still, it was a very successful season. Pac12 champs outright. We could see toward the end of the season that this wasnt a team peaking at the right time. Very unlikely we would have won the CWS.

Football is going to need watching, just to see if maybe this is one of Riley’s “up” years … who knows. And in basketball I am interested in how WT does as a coach, even with a low talent level. Suck it up, Angry Beavs…..we still have stuff to be mad about….lol

  17. It’s an empty feeling because it’s fun rooting for your program when they are very good and you don’t want an outstanding season to end, but as a fan of Beaver sports it’s sort of ok because baseball has 2 national championships in the bag and that can’t be taken away from the program.

Basketball was really f-ing frustrating when they were good because as much as I love Ralph they could not get it done in the tourney, so many 1st round loses.

There is only one national champion each year and the odds are it’s not going to be your school in baseball because it’s a fickle sport.. It’s just nice watching a very competitve program each season and Pat Casey should be commended for that major accomplishment.

  18. To illustrate how bad the beaver bats were last night, Hendrix, Peterson, Conforto, Davis and Clark were a combined 0-16 with Clark fanning 3 times in his 4 plate appearances. This against two guys pitching on short rest and one guy throwing 3.1 innings giving up just a PH triple when on the season he’s given up an average of 1.5 hits per inning with a BA against of .309.

It seemed like the key to the game is that Irvine was constantly getting their leadoff guy on base in the middle/ late innings and that opened up a lot of opportunities for them. I was a little surprised that Hamilton didn’t try to squeeze a run in and stay out of the DP. After-all he’s only batting . 231. Hendrix ended up the season at .351 and Conforto fell to .345 after being over .400 mid-season. Eaters definitely took their chances and it mostly paid off. Not many coaches would start the guy who pitched on Friday. In hindsight we would’ve had a better chance if Moore had come in to start the 6th with the game tied.

I’m not so down on next year. Ice, Morrison and Hendrix played big parts in this season’s success and I don’t think last year we could have predicted that so who knows who will step up next year.
