    • Good message, but the writing quality is piss poor. Isn’t ESPN raking in billions? Why can’t they hire someone capable of turning a phrase?

I don’t need Joyce, but damn… that reads like a highschooler wrote it. And what’s the deal with all the double hyphens?

      • Agreed to a point. It’s just crap. But it is better than many other craps out there. The editing must have been done by a newbie. I imagine an experienced editor could add words rather than hyphens… although, one should use a comma after though, or although,

    • Thompson 60 pitches in 2 innings, wow!
Now, Rasmussen showed some potential last outing, a K after 9 fouls vs the best opposition hitter.

  1. Thompson was decent at times last year but looks like a guy who should be moved to the ‘pen. No idea who are the Saturday and Sunday starters come conference play

    • That and Talladega have to be the most boring events in auto racing.

They’re worth watching for one lap… or just turn four of that lap… if it ever finishes under green. The only good finish I can think of in either race was when Harvick beat Martin… eight years ago.

      • the sport has gotten watered down since the car of tomorrow was introduced several years ago. Anymore, I don’t know who is what number and I do follow nascar. A guy used to have the same car number, sponsor and drove for the same owner. Now drivers are switching to different teams quite frequently. This will also be Jeff Gordon’s final season running full time. What in the hell has happened to Jack Roush teams? Kenseth, Edwards and Kurt Busch all left. Only Biffle is his remaining driver from that former group.

        • I wouldn’t say that Kurt left. That idiot is just one roiling ball of stupid, annoying, passive-aggressive shit… unless he forgoes the passive part. He’s a pretty good driver. But he’s just too emotional. Kyle is much better at being cool under pressure.

Don’t read too much into drivers switching teams. As I recall, the 99 was driven by Burton to a championship not long before Carl took over. Before Burton, btw, all I remember of the 99 was Tim Richmond in the early 80’s. And that was zero wins… a couple top tens maybe.

Hell, Jr. left his own team a couple years back.

          • honestly I didn’t think that at first about Kurt Busch and kind of liked him. But now, he’s a train wreck that may have committed career suicide. Complete and total douche.

FYI, Jeff Burton never won a championship. His best points finish was 3rd (yes I did have to look it up, but I didn’t think Burton ever won one). But he was very consistent back in the late 90’s early 2000.

I didn’t start watching the roundy rounds until early 90’s when a family friend starting coming over on Sunday’s because his family didn’t have cable. Jeff Gordon was just starting his career. Loved Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin and Dale Jarrett.

And Dale Jr is extremely overrated as a driver. Only reason so many people like him is because of his last name. He’s never won a championship and may not. If you can’t win a championship driving for Rick Hendrick, well then you kinda suck. It will be interesting to see who they decide to go after to replace Jeff Gordon after this season. Dale Jr’s dad was a helluva driver, albeit dirty at times. I didn’t like him, but respected him as a driver.

My personal favorite track is Bristol. 43 cars on a half mile high banked oval. You’re lucky if your car isn’t beat to shit by the end of the race!

Lastly, Rusty Wallace to my knowledge is the only modern day driver to ever do a test run without a restrictor plate at Talladega. No other cars were on the track. He achieved a top speed of over 228 mph in the straightaways. Said it was fun but also the scariest ride of his life and could not imagine doing that with 42 other cars at the same time.

          • You’re right. I think Bobby Labonte won that year.

Kurt has always been religious-weird. He’s aggressive on the track, but he then pretends he’s Rodney King off. He’s always been a weird bird. I think the apex of his weirdness (before the last couple months) was about four years ago when he seemed to be going off the rails then gave an interview with the Fox loonies where he just repeated “can’t we all just get along in the name of hey Zeus?” It was the most awkward interview I’ve ever watched. Dude was obviously just not smart enough to be a cult leader.

Dale was special. I don’t think he was dirty. He had the ability to bump drivers without spinning them (except for Sterling Marlin). He also had an innate feel for physics. Half his “bumps” were him getting under a car and getting them loose without touching them. The COT doesn’t do that now, which kinda makes the ovals more boring.

Agreed on Bristol. It’s a spectacle. But I like the road courses much much more. And I like seeing the specialists deal with the oval drivers on the hairpins is sometimes funny.

          • The most impressive race I ever saw was in the late 80’s at Bristol. DE was absolutely dominating the race but drove too hard into a corner to pass lapped traffic and spun himself out and into the pits for about 20 laps. He came back out with no front end, no quarter-panels and no hood. He was just driving with an engine, roll cage and tires on the front end. He then proceeded to pick ’em up and put ’em down with that angry looking beast. I think he picked up five or six laps by simply driving past everyone… and still ended up a dozen laps down.

          • My NASCAR 2 cents, I’m not a Jr fan but do respect what he has done with all the expectations heaped on him, I’m surprised he hasn’t turned out like Kurt Busch. I resent DE and NASCAR for absolutely stealing the championship from Martin in the 90’s. Martin was penalized by NASCAR early in that season and when NASCAR told DE to park his car until an equipment problem was fixed he ignored them and went back out on the track and surprise, no penalty from NASCAR. Martin still holds the record for the fastest average speed, over 180 MPH, it was a Talladega race where the whole 500 miles was run without a caution.

          • Martin was only fined 50 points.

Talladega really sucks. I don’t know how anyone can call that venue a race… except that it’s also really boring.

          • The 1990 NASCAR Winston Cup began on Sunday February 11 and ended on Sunday November 18. Because of a highly controversial penalty to Mark Martin early in the season, Dale Earnhardt with Richard Childress Racing was crowned the Winston Cup champion for the fourth time, edging out Martin by 21 points.

    • He’ll be starting next Saturday. They left him in for as long as they did cause he was getting guys out and to start stretching him out to move into the rotation

      • He better be. Thompson is terrible. That experiment needs to end asap. Just more proof experience means nothing. Need Luke H to get on track vs Grambling. That’s going to be his opportunity to gain confidence and settle in. If Rasmussen and Luke H settle in the rotation suddenly becomes formidable.

The lineup needs to improve. I realize they’ve scored a lot the past few games, but that won’t last vs good pitching. Casey has to sort that out soon. I can’t wait to see these guys on TV because then it will be obvious who should bat where, though I have a pretty good idea as is.

  2. Lady Beavs clinch a share of the title, but this is no time to share. Stanford’s been the big dogs for the last 25 years, get in there and take it. It seems so poetic that a chance to pry out a solo title comes against Tree. Because only after taking them out can you be the undisputed champ.

  3. Ducks beat Utah and are almost certainly going to make NCAA Tourney now. Oregon State beating them also pretty much gives the Beavers 95% odds of making the NIT because it will be a higher quality win. Take one in the Bay and beat Oregon and OSU could still climb as high as a #3 or 4 seed in the NIT. No Bay win but beating UO should maintain us around #6 NIT seed heading into the Pac-12 Tourney. Losing our opener won’t be ideal but it will be against a closely rated team on neutral site so I believe OSU still would have enough for a NIT invite. Beat UO and win our Pac-12 tourney opener and we would probably move to a 4 or 5 seed in the NIT bracket. A lot to fight for.

  4. Beavers aren’t the only team in the Pac-12 struggling on the mound. Washington went 1-3 against the same opponents OSU played this weekend and gave up 38 runs. The Beavers are probably one of the more talented offensive teams in the conference and with the change in baseballs this year, KJ Harrison could post even more monster numbers than Conforto did as a freshman. If the Beavers can find themselves two more legitimate weekend guys they have a chance to be a top 3 team in the conference. Hopefully Rasmussen can be one of those guys.

    • I don’t think it’s a matter of “struggling” per se on our part. I think Casey’s short cane combined with a lack of one in certain places makes for a weird mix. Hickey looked great against Okie State–without actually seeing him. But I knew intuitively that Woodward should have remained the next day instead of putting Hickey in for the 9th. But that’s a coach’s prerogative. This early in the season, I think Casey’s looking for situational as well as overall combos in order to set up for league play.

  5. Almost happened. Cal beat Stanford 63-53. Both teams now have 4 losses and cannot win the pac-12. ASU defeated USC 76-73 in 2 OT. Lady Beavs lead over ASU is 2 games. Any win by the Lady Beavs or ASU loss next weekend and they clinch the pac-12 title outright. As of now Lady Beavs will be the no. 1 seed in pac-12 tournament due to season sweep of ASU. Way to go ladies!

    • I can’t see ASU losing at home to either Colorado or Utah so they’re gonna have to win at least one. Sure would be nice if they could finally beat Stanford. Anyone know when was the last time women’s team beat Stanford in hoops?

      • January 11th, 2001 at Gill. Felicia Ragland was a junior and Judy Spoelstra was the head coach. It has been 14 years since Oregon State has beaten Tree, and I am looking forward to witnessing the power shift from Palo Alto to Corvallis for once.

I sincerely hope Coach Rueck finds a way to use this as fuel for our women’s team.

        • Yikes! 14 years! Well, I’ll have to tune in on Thursday to watch the ladies against Stanford at 6, then the men take on Stanford at 8.

  6. Ducks win over Utah assured them nothing. They finish with Stanford, Cal and Beavs on the road. They could easily lose all 3. UCLA finishes with UW, WSU and USC all at home. They should easily win out and be 11-7.

    • I would love to see a Duck collapse on the road. I believe if they make it to the tourney, it will be the first time they have made it for three straight season in their entire history. I know karma is going to catch up with Altman, it just can’t happen fast enough for me.

  7. Just curious, does anyone know anything about Gary Payton Jr? I think I heard once he was also playing junior college ball, but I think this was three or four years ago. I take it, he didn’t have D-1 talent?

    • I’ve done some searching and haven’t been able to find much about GPJr.

At first I thought he was younger than GP2, but now I think he’s a little older and I don’t remember where I came up with that. All I know for certain is that they have different mothers. GP has 4 kids the 2 Garys, another boy (not named Gary) and a girl.

      • I checked also, there’s not much out there. I remember reading an article about him around 2011 or so and he sounded like he had potential, but was heading to a JC because of grades. I think he played HS ball in Chicago?. He’s just a few months older than GP2, so you are right about that. There’s also a younger son, Julian, who sounds like he’s a decent point guard at Bishop in Vegas.

  8. Just admit it guys, you can’t wait till I get back! I’m so excited to play. Gonna get my chance again soon. Finally! Dang I made a mistake, didn’t kill nobody, don’t see why I’m still suspended honestly but hoping coach has almost forgotten about it and puts me back in as a starter next week!

    #blessed

      • I think you’re right. A Beav would know he was never a starter, let alone putting him “back in as” one.

This particular version of eDuckWeJustifyRapeAndCoverups was never exciting in the first place. But at least it also wasn’t funny.

    • Vic baby…….I would venture a guess and say, since you’re NOT PRACTICING at the moment, WT has probably not “almost forgotten” about your mistake. I hope you’re taking advantage of that scholarship and hitting the books, since you won’t be hitting the court anytime soon.

  9. List of last years NIT participants, records and RPI. West Virginia with a record of 17-15 and RPI of 88 was the last at large participant. Everyone else below that RPI wise received an automatic berth due to being a conference champion and not winning their conference tournament. Beavs have some work to do. I can’t see them making the NIT with an RPI in the 90’s. CBI and CIT are just a dog and pony show. Although it is sad that the team with the highest RPI in that tournament (OSU) lost to the team with lowest RPI in the tournament (Radford)

  10. I suggest we have an edge in getting in the NIT, on the “story” associated with us this year — Tinkle resurrecting the program, overachieving, etc. It would be a nice ending to this season.

  11. Well, we aren’t the “worst.” Wazzu at #62 and Colorado at #55.

“50. Oregon State Gary Andersen left Wisconsin because of clashes with administration there, but it said something about Oregon State’s history and trajectory that he felt comfortable swapping Madison for Corvallis. Around the same time he was hired, OSU announced a $42 million project to renovate and expand its football facility. So there’s some level of commitment present. But let’s be honest: There had better be, or OSU would risk being laughed off the state’s map because of what Nike money does for its rival. Oregon State finds more peace in Oregon’s shadow than a lot of programs would, but you know it’s still quite the burden to bear. Then the Beavers have to go head-to-head in the same division and league with the Ducks. That’s tough. Both Eugene and Corvallis are fairly isolated cities south of Portland, but if a kid is choosing between them, it makes Oregon State a tough sell.”

I’d do that cool little quote box, but I dunno how. :(

    • “If every college football job opened today, which would be the hardest to fill?”

They’d all be easy. Pretty much every one pays at least a million dollars per year.

    • extra day to prepare for Michigan. Really hope they don’t stick us with a noon start time for the Michigan game. Seems to always happen when the Beavs travel to a different time zone

      • Nope, we will certainly get screwed on game time scheduling and in other possible ways too. No home and home. Nikegon at Michigan State the same day. No way this works out for us. Hopefully Andersen can help the BDC regime with future schedules so as to avoid getting into bad positions.

    • It’s not weird, it’s all about TV.

12 teams, 12 games. PAC12 wants all the games on national TV for exposure and not some CBS Sports channel that no one gets, so moving games around makes sense. Not to fans who actually go to the game, but for TV reasons, yes.

Also Michigan gets two extra days for OSU. They play Thursday at Utah in week 1.

    • And it’s only going to get worse. As a someone who works in web i can’t wait to call Comcast in a few years to ask them how much i have to pay to open a fast lane to our clients services.

      Also, http://www.newamerica.org/oti/the-cost-of-connectivity-2014/

U.S. cities lag behind European and Asian cities in our sample in terms of what consumers pay for 25 Mbps of service, and what consumers can get for $50. As in previous years, we continue to find that U.S. municipal broadband providers offer some of the fastest speeds available in the country at relatively affordable prices.

  12. Got an email from OSU saying t-shirt were on sale. Decided to take a look and saw the “Hip Hip Hooray!” shirt is on clearance for $5.

Got me thinking, we totally missed out on a great opportunity for a Reser stadium anthem over the years. I know Jack had suggested “Hip Hop Hooray” by Naughty by Nature at one point, but why didn’t we think to put in a clip of Riley saying in a high pitched voice “HIP HIP” over the Naughty by Nature “HIP HOP”? “HIP HIP Hooray….hoo….hey….hooo…..hey…hooo…”
