  1. comment from Jashwa James…………………

“A lot of people were dinged up. I guess like five games in, the mood just shifted. Especially after we lost to Utah, it just like deflated us. Ever since then, I just knew this wasn’t going to be a good year. We weren’t going to right this ship. After that, I just felt like guys were just playing just to be out there. You know, we were just going through the motions. Because after a time, it just wears on you, you know? I don’t know, it was just bad.”

Is that a ringing endorsement that the coaching staff lost the team? That’s how I read it

    • I don’t have the time or energy. But someone should go back to the post-Utah posts on this blog from last fall and see what was being said at that time. You might find something as amusing as the plea angry put out for Riley to retire after the season… PLEASE.

    • I thought the “generational” comment was interesting….I think Dave Baldwin is close to Riley’s age, but Jashwa was talking about the energy that is brought to the table now versus last year.

  2. Not good, Beavs have 2 RISP with 1 out and KJ strikes out and Hendrix grounds out to end the possible big inning. Then Moore gives up his first hit but it’s a triple with one out.

  3. Hope Howard getting picked off at 2nd doesn’t come back to bite them in the ass. If that doesn’t happen the Beavs are up 3-1 right now. Too many errors on the basepaths

  4. 2 on and one out for the beavs and Howard is picked off 2b. Ice with a 3-2 pitch double and Cary scores. 2-1 Beavs. Bonehead Howard cost Moore a run.

    • In a nice (and not particularly rare) bit of objectivity, Parker mentions the LOB’s and how they put pressure on Andrew and the Beavs.

  5. Gotta love Andrew, the IBB didn’t effect his concentration, comes back with a K to end the inning.

BTW, if you appreciate Jim Wilson’s commentary as I do, you will want to hear him tomorrow as he joins Parker broadcasting the Spring FB Game. Yeah, GAME.

  6. If I was Andrew I would begin to wonder if my teammates had it in for me. Beavs had Nobach at 3b with one out and Cary & Ice K

  7. I really miss the behind the pitcher view on the baseball streams. MAJOR missed opportunity not to use that. The backdrop with the Pac-12 logos, the great trees and stadium setup behind home plate and Waldo Hall is a shame not to see regularly. Also made it so you aren’t looking through a net.

Not sure why they made this switch but to me it is much less enjoyable watching it this way. Went from fantastic, love to soak in every second to don’t mind watching but not the same.

  8. 5 hits for zona, came in with a .324 BA. By my reckoning that is about half what they’ve been averaging per game.
Great way to begin the weekend, nice to see Andrew get some support.
GO BEAVS!……..won’t mean a lot if they fail to show up tomorrow and Sunday.

  9. Andrew Moore puts the team on his back once again. Monster start. Season on the line the next couple weekends. Have to take 4 of 6 this weekend and next at minimum.

  10. OT: but does anyone know the drinking policy (or lack thereof) in Reser parking lot? Some friends and I are going to the spring game tomorrow and want to take some Growlers + Red Solo cups to pregame it up! Haha. Want to make sure we don’t get kicked out. Lol

      • Was more surprised at how many home runs ASU pitchers gave up (3). Yikes, I’m a little worried about that series in Seattle now.

        • Idk… Zony has been looking like a recent and surging power. But Moore seemed to put them down pretty easily.

This game can just be crazy at times.

          • Btw… I couldn’t get an answer from anyone tonight. But was Mak Fox using a circle change last week? Did anyone else see that? He hung one, and it got pulled. Thankfully a 3B was there for the diving catch. But he was throwing a nasty little curve.

          • IDK. I think Arizona’s high batting average has been due to a weak schedule so far. They dropped 2 of 3 at home to Utah, USC swept them and ASU took 2 of 3. Do i think they are a good team? Yes. But probably just like the Beavs a middle of the road Pac-12 team. I don’t think their pitching is anything special. I do worry about these next two games because if the Beavs serve up meatballs like they did last weekend, UA has some guys that can absolutely mash. As for your question about Mak Fox, IDK as I did not see. I would like to see him get some more opportunities though

          • Good enough. But the wins they had were reminiscent of ours when we were @ASU and UCLA. There’s a bunch of promise on our team. There’s a good point made by someone on this site at some time about playing the proper kids at the proper positions. I can’t remember who that is off hand. But these kids are going to get good just in time to not make the 64. It almost smacks of the 2008 season. If that’s true, Poly will win it all.

What’s scary is that now Poly has their P, and the kid at Pomona is awesome too. That’s a ton of talent not found by Pac coaches.

          • I fully expect this 2015 Oregon State team to make a regional. Probably win 17-18 games in conference play. The schedule was front loaded and 15 of the last 21 are played in Corvallis with the exception of the UP game in Keizer. The roadies are in Seattle and Palo Alto. I think they’ll be fine

          • Exactly. Other than Moore nothing has been a sure thing. Hit and miss. We will know in several weeks. Enjoy (or don’t) the ride

          • You have a bad memory….Angry makes that point at list once a week! In fact that’s his biggest complaint about Casey this season.

          • You must remember that you’re dealing with Jack. Don’t take his posts so literally, his memory is (usually) just fine.
I believe most here got the point.

          • No, angry complaint is that Casey does not listen to back seat drivers nor take instructions from important people. He is not a puppet, nor does he do polling. That being said, this year is not evidence of his best work. I think it may be a bit of karma for Casey breaking his own rules and letting Wetzler off the hook with that bit of fake discipline last year.

  11. I seriously hope to see a few more angrybeavs at the spring game tomorrow. Absolutely unbeatable weather as well as all of the great things that have been going on lately… Why not come and show support for six dollars!?

  12. Because any time you can show support for them Getting rid of the old hag is well worth 6 bucks! What’s the max attendance for a Riley spring game? I never went, that’s for sure

  13. If going to the spring game, please don’t do this.

TCU fan allegedly punched 78-year old man at spring game
    CBSSports.com? – 2 days ago
… with injury of the elderly after allegedly punching a 78-year old man at TCU’s spring game.

    • Opening Day of Little League today with pictures and games etc so my son and I and close to 400 other local kids and their families and their kids can’t go to the Spring Game. Piss poor planning, I feel like I could hit a 78 year man.

      • Picture Day came fast this year, I’m in the same boat, but I was just going to watch it on TV at a friends since I don’t have P-12 Network. That’s out the window now, damn kids! I get to watch multiple walks and errors on routine groundballs this afternoon…wait is that a Beaver game or my sons game..very confusing!

  14. Moore is the man. He should have had the win in Eugene, last week except for the worst inning in Beaver baseball history. Let’s see if the pitching crew shows up for the rest of the series. It’s going to take more than three runs per game to sweep.

Will watch spring game on delay tonight with fast forward option. Too nice to spend the day in the car, plus I don’t think the format is very interesting. JB

  15. Is the spring game going to be available on demand on the Pac12 website later?

I have a login for the site, but don’t actually get the channel so can’t DVR :P

  16. OT- Angry might find this interesting.

Canzano won a national journalism award (1st place 2015 National Headliner Awards) for his Brend Tracy piece.

MR is probably chomping his gum a little faster today to blow off some stress as he peddles around Lincoln. Did Brenda ever get that invite for a “talk”?

  17. Woohoo, a real Spring Football Game! I am a slight Collins lean over Mitchell but am pumped to see for myself amongst all 3 QBs. Go Orange and White teams!

    • I’ll take that kind of athleticism and purpose over statue Mannion every day of the week. So far this Spring Game in Year 1 is fifty times better than Riley ever had.

Xavier Hawkins just had a 70 yard TD run on a handoff from Mitchell. Loving Andersen football so far!

    • I’m missing the entire game because of a choppy stream that keeps cutting out.

Anyone know if this game will be replayed somewhere? Anyone have a stream that works, because Comcast does not.

      • Replay at 4am. It’s the pac-12 website. I have the same issues streaming games from there. Anywhere else works just fine

        • I’m watching it through comcast with a legit stream. It’s so choppy…maybe every 10 or 20 seconds it cuts out and I have to refresh. So I tried a bootleg, and it is doing the same thing. Anyone else having these issues? My internet seems to be working fine otherwise so it’s strange.

          • Yes. It’s the pac-12 website. Their streams do the same thing to me. I posted about it during football season. Do a google search. It’s a well known issue

    • Like the outside too. Set’s a good vibe for future of program. On the inside I would prefer stonework next to the long recovery spa with “Oregon State” and/or the beaver logo in LED light that could be controlled. HGTV would probably do that part for free if you made it into an episode on TV. Wood floors and stone would be my preference.

  18. Well Mannion got a lot of hate for his flaws here, but these other guys definitely don’t have the arm talent Mannion has. Might be hard to watch at some points next season.

    • Sitting in the stands it looked the same to me. I don’t think there was a pass 10 yds downfield that was on-time. Overall though the statue act got old and depressing.

    • I agree. Mitchell doesn’t impress me enough with his arm to make up for how much worse of an athlete he is.

Would have liked to see more McMaryion.

      • Yes I would agree. Mitchell and McMaryion looked equal passing to me but McMaryion is more elusive and a better runner. Right now imo

        1. Collins
        2. McMaryion
        3. Mitchell

        • That’s what I saw, too.

Collins threw better than expected, but as I thought, he struggled on deeper passes. That’s where MM can step in, in theory, and gain an edge over him (e.g. the endzone fade MM threw was nice even though it was incomplete). It still seems like Andersen wants Collins to be the guy, though

  19. From today’s game I give Collins a 8.6 out of 10 for being ready to perform in Game 1 of the start of the season. He appears as a clear leader to me. Makes me question Gina and Connor a bit.

Mitchell and McMaryion is the real race for #2. I’d give them both 7.0 at most at this time. Gun to head and I’d have McMaryion an inch ahead of Mitchell at this moment. Mitchell a little too scrawny perhaps. Needs to get stronger or I anticipate he could get rattled on occasion in fierce Pac-12 action.

  20. Announcers totally licking Riley’s ball sack right now. Lmfao! I can’t wait to see the eventual train wreck in Lincoln

  21. Mitchell’s throw is usually a little nicer than McMaryion’s though. Can understand that if you want him a fraction ahead of Marcus for #2 QB. But Collins clearly was the #1 today. Has that fighter’s attitude which is what it will take to win Pac-12 road games.

    • go back to the first post I made in this thread. Comments from Jaswha James about last year. Coaching staff lost the team imo. Thank you Nebraska for the golden ticket!!!!!

  22. went to the game but didnt get to watch very closely since I had my toddler with me. Fun atmosphere and better turnout than I expected. You can feel the positive energy around the teM building. I do worry about how terrible the deep balls were. Really need that weapon to keep the defense from playing in tight. Also worry about our QB’s taking hits unnecessarily. Those defenders from other pac-12 programs wont play nice and somebody is going to get injured. We may need all 3 QB’s as the season progresses.

    • I was thinking it wouldn’t even take until Pac-12 play begins. Like those LBs for UM might account for one or two of the QBs getting hurt. Either that or making the QBs not so anxious to run with it.

  23. Zona goes down 1-2-3 in the t1.
Clark in at DH again, Hendrix batting clean-up.

Orange vs Red jerseys, look pretty similar on stream in bright sunlight.

  24. An absolutely great AB for Ice. Down in the count he fouls off a bunch to get to 3-2 and crushes one over the right field fence.

  25. Rasmussen can’t find the plate with 2 out. Walks two and gives up a bases loaded single. Cats take the lead. Ice throws out the runner trying to steal 3b to end the inning. The no hitter and shutout go away and Beavs down 2-1

  26. Top of the order coming up for Beavs in the 7th, down 2-1.
Remember last season when the 7th was so good for the Beavs? Time for timely hitting!

  27. I think Andrew Moore is discovering the wisdom behind the saying “if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.”

  28. Anyone else listen to Mike Parker on the radio stream. It bothers me every time he calls Jeff Hendrix “Jeffrey.” I don’t see him listed as Jeffrey anywhere else and he calls him by that name an unnecessary amount of time.

    • I believe Parker’s daughter went to school with Hendrix, in any event Parker is more acquainted with him since he is a local kid. I think he once said the kids (from high school, not team members) call him Jeffie, maybe I misheard and he was saying Jeffrey.
Anyway, doesn’t particularly bother me. Then again, not a lot about Parker does. Sometimes his emotional tie to the Beavs teams does detract from his presentation, but not all that often…for me anyway.

    • My son played American Legion baseball with Jeff Hendrix. I spent a lot of time that summer around Jeff Hendrix, and the Hendrix family (I often sat with Jeff’s father, Bart, at the games; also I drove the team van to most away games). To the best of my recollection, everyone called him “Jeff”, not Jeffrey. That includes teammates, coaches, and family. He also is called “Jeff” (not Jeffrey) on his Twitter site https://twitter.com/jeffhendro. Same on the OSU site http://www.osubeavers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=30800&ATCLID=207913439

I’m with Corey on this — I find it mildly annoying to hear Parker keep calling Hendrix “Jeffrey”. But maybe that’s partly because (unlike oneoldbeav), I’m not a Mike Parker fan. I think Parker is overly fond of the sound of his own voice, and overplays his connections and closeness with the coaches and players. I suspect that using “Jeffrey” rather than “Jeff” is part of that. When watching the live feed of an OSU baseball game, I often find myself turning off the sound, so I can watch the game without being annoyed by Parker (as it happens, that’s exactly what I did when watching part of the OSU-Arizona game yesterday afternoon).

      • Again, I say, I appreciate your input silver.
Your first hand knowledge certainly trumps my suppositions; guess that’s why heresay and speculation aren’t accepted in court.
I confess I appreciate Parker’s way of filling in the blanks and avoiding dead air on his broadcasts. OTOH I’ve always said things go better with Jim Wilson filling in those dead air blanks and demonstrating his superior knowledge of the game (both BSB and FB).

        • Personal preference, I guess. Parker too often (at least for my taste) avoids dead air by providing (and later repeating) details that I just don’t care about (for example, the names of the opponent’s first and third base coaches). Rarely does Parker fill in the blanks with insightful observations about the game (as you say, Jim Wilson does a much better job of that). Parker also is a long-winded interviewer, who has trouble getting to the point, and who often seems to be sucking up to the person he is interviewing, rather than asking interesting questions, listening carefully to the answers, and then asking cogent follow-up questions. I appreciate that Parker has struggled with personal issues, and that there are many OSU fans who like Parker and want him to continue as the broadcast voice of the Beavers. I’m just not one of those fans. Personally, I think Parker’s act has grown quite stale, and it’s time for Parker to make way for someone younger and fresher as the voice of the Beavers.

      • I’m not a Mike Parker fan mainly because he whines a lot and his voice gets glum when the Beavers lose. He epitomizes small town broadcaster. He has everything tied up in the Beavers. The napkin thing didn’t surprise me given how his entire well-being and identity are tied to how some college kids perform, and his entire life is a vicarious sham. Most broadcasters separate work from rooting/emotions, but Parker can’t. That’s why the die hards love him, though. He bleeds O/B.

  29. King grounds out with the bases loaded (on a 2-0 pitch where Nobach walked on 4 pitches ahead of him) to end the 5th. Beavs 4-1. King is .188 with two out.

    • he’s still a better option at DH than Clark who is an automatic out. King also drove in the Beavs first run in the 2nd

  30. Hey, look at that! We kept Angry’s organization. Baseball comments continued under the Az thread, football under the top thread. Raising our brow level.
