The forecast right now is a 90% chance of showers, with accumulations of 1/4 of an inch. It's iffy whether the game will be played.

The slated pitching matchup is Alex Keudell (1-1, 3.09 ERA) versus Cam Booser (0-1, 3.52).

This is technically a non-conference game–keep that in mind.

If the game is played, I expect a hard fought contest decided by one run. The Beavers are still the team in the PNW, and they do not want to cede that title to the upstart Ducks. Oregon State has struggled against good pitching, and Oregon has plenty of that. Oregon, however, cannot score runs. The key player of the game, therefore, is Oregon State pitcher Cam Booser (note: Cliff is reporting he might be injured, in which case Matt Boyd would go–this is probably an upgrade). It will be difficult for the Beavers to score more than 4 runs on the  Duck's quality staff, so can Booser and company hold them to fewer? That's the question, and a difficult one at that.

I believe the Beavs will scratch and claw for 5, and the Ducks will threaten but ultimately wind up with 4 on the ledger. Expect a close, tough game with emotional ups and downs.

5-4, Beavs

  1. Overcast the sun peeks through occasionally, with a sporadic shower. Meh not great baseball weather, but this is Oregon lol.

Ducks down 1-2-3 in the first. I missed who got the start….doesn’t look like Booser. Who is #24?

Edit: Looks to be Scott Schultz.

Yup. Pat Casey didn’t hold out Cam Booser on Sunday like you had thought, he’s having back issues. Hopefully his back won’t be a problem for much of the season.

  3. Only 1 team they’ve played in the last 9 is indicative of the teams they’ll face in the Pac. That number will go way way down. Trying to make dinner and watch this while also listening to the SO talk about her day isn’t going so well.

  4. If Wilson says better lucky than good, I’m having another drink. He has some knowledge and good insights but he sounds just like an ex boss of mine, who was a total holier than thou shit don’t stink prick.

  5. Bryant struggled in the 5th but got out of it only giving up 1 run. That was big to get that ground out to end the inning.

  6. Carter Bell just seems like he’s putting a ton of pressure on himself. He’s a better hitter than what he’s showing.

    • Barney was a tremendous player as well. I would say he’s right up there with Barney and Ellsbury. Only downside with Susac is, it’s pretty likely he will go to the draft even though he’s a sophomore, because of his birth date. I hope he decides to stay for his junior year and then enters the draft.

  7. Bryant has been so inconsistent. He came in struggling to throw strikes and got out of the fifth. In the sixth he cruised, in the 7th he’s struggling to throw strikes again. Ducks have the bases loaded now with 1 out and Matt Boyd is in

  8. Boyd gets the final 2 outs and the Beavers lead 4-1 after 6 and 1/2 innings. Boyd can always be counted on to get the job done.

    • They were ranked because of hype coming into the season and have been overrated ever since by voters. I’m not sure why they would keep them in the rankings though. I’ve been saying for a while they’re very overrated. They have some tremendous pitching but weak at best hitting.

  9. Ducks are ranked because WHoreton like all other Ducks is a non-stop blow hard machine, just rank him so he’ll shut up, and fail on the field. Hated him at Fullerton, hate him now.

    • I believe Pat Casey is now 11-2 against George Horton, including a win against him in the Colelge World Series. Pat Casey > George Horton
