Here's a breakdown of my projected pitching matchups for the weekend.

Date Opponent Pitchers Time (PT)
04/08 Arizona State Sam Gaviglio (5-1. 1.05) vs Brady Rodgers (4-1) 5:35 p.m.
04/09 Arizona State Josh Osich (4-0. 3.00) vs Kramer Champlin (4-1) 1:05 p.m.
04/10 Arizona State Ben Wetzler(4-1, 4.15) vs Jake Barrett (3-2) 1:05 p.m.

Some numbers…

Team stats (Batting):

ASU: .324, 14, 154 .401/.466

OSU: .271, 12, 170, .387/.378

Team era favors OSU (2.66 vs 3.01). However, in-conference ASU has pitched to a 1.50 era, while OSU is at 4.50. Both teams are poor fielders @ .973 and .976, with ASU having the slight edge.

The new bats seem to be affecting ASU, as they only have 14hrs. This was a neutralizing force versus Arizona, and could be the Beaver's best friend this season.

Obviously the big blow is losing our two best mashers in Susac and Rodriguez. Their loss takes some air out of the series, and while I left the Arizona series impressed with OSU's fight and chemistry, I'm not yet a buyer. Arizona State takes two of three.

  1. We are certainly going to miss those guys, but a week ago I would have been ok with us being 3-3 in our first two series of the PAC 10 (especially with the 18-0 drubbing in the opener). The PAC 10 is deep and we are starting with 2 of the top teams. I would love to see us come away with this series, but we need to take it one game at a time. Sam needs to get back on track today and then let this team fight for another one over the weekend

  2. The second part to not having Susac (besides missing his bat) is that Berberet will have to play the whole series at C. He had some long stretches last year, so hopefully three games is short enough for him to bear. I think they both call nice (but different) games with Berberet playing better defense. It’s sort of like comparing Yeager to Scioscia.

A lot of our poor numbers were compiled in last Friday’s game. If that remains an anomaly, our stats will more honestly reflect a better team. ASU proved last week that Duck High’s bats are anemic, while we proved that the Zonies could hit, and we could overcome ourselves. I think it’s just a good match-up all around, and I’m glad we have them here this year and this early.

I’ve always loved Danny Hayes, and he hasn’t let me down this year. Jones has come back a little stiff with the bat, but look for him to step it up. I think the biggest surprise last week was Jared Norris coming back on fire. If he continues to play like that, he can finally lock down RF. I think it’s obvious that Stamps needs to be a little more patient at the plate. If he just concentrates on putting the ball in play, he increases his efficiency immensely. Bell seems to have upped his game nicely, and I’m really impressed with a very young Keyes.

I guess no Rodriguez means we’re looking for Dunn to step it up. He just needs to make key plays at key moments. I don’t see Smith doing anything yet. And I don’t think Acosta has done anything in the field yet.

What worries me most is missing the one guy who solidifies the OF and the top of the order. Where’s my Garrett Nash? Out for two more weeks? That (and missing Jake’s glove) scares me more than anything. Miller has been more up than down, but he just has a knack for doing the wrong thing at just the wrong moment. At least his fielding has been solid thus far.

I think this one comes down to our starters. I hope more than I expect, but I can see anything happening this weekend. We can sweep, and we can be swept. ASU’s bats are nothing like they were last year, so I think our throwers have a good opportunity to keep them in check. They’re going to come out aggressive and look to control the game from the front. But I don’t see them running away with any games early. I think Sam pulls out the first game, and I think Josh wills the team to a game two win. I still love Wetzler’s skills, but he needs to put two solid games together.

I fear all the excitement about Taylor Starr as well. I think we have proven arms to end games in a 1+ set-up/closer with Boyd and a solid closer in Bryant. I would rather have Starr prove himself in middle relief before we just throw him into the closer role. I understand wanting to instill confidence in a kid by giving him a chance. But I also think it goes both ways. And the worst case scenario is that confidence is lost along with a game.

  3. Missing Susac really isn’t as big of a blow as you might think. Berberet has more RBI’s and the same home run total, so they won’t really be missing him much there. Berberet is the better defensive catcher and I don’t think we will see passed balls that hurt the pitchers. Danny Hayes I think, will have a big series.

Honestly, if Susac had gone out, let’s say a month ago, the Beavers would be in trouble, but that has changed. Keyes, Dunn and Barnes are really developing and becoming good hitters. They have helped bring depth to the lineup, and they along with Carter Bell, were the main reason the offense so much in the last two games in the Arizona series. If them and Carter Bell continue to produce, the Beavers will be a really tough team to beat.

I must say, I have been really impressed with Jared Norris the last few weeks. His problem the last three years at OSU has been his lack of aggressiveness. He seemed too passive and let mistake go for strikes. He has taken an incredible amount of called third strikes down the middle of the plate the last few years. That has changed recently. He’s still patient, but if you throw him a ball down the middle of the plate he’s looking to crush it. That was what has always been missing. He looks to have a different mentality at the plate now and it’s really paying off. If they have him producing along with the others I mentioned, this offense will be tremendous.

When Susac is back, even when he’s struggling with his swing, I don’t think it will hurt the team too much because the offense has depth and can pick him up. Wouldn’t surprise me if Pat Casey plays Susac at DH for a while.

Btw Angry, Rodriguez isn’t the Beavers second best masher. Susac, Hayes and Berberet are the top three. Rodriguez is fourth but with Barnes coming on he could surpass Rodriguez.

As far as this series goes, I have the Beavers taking two of three with a possibility for a sweep. ASU’s best shot for a win is game three vs Ben Wetzler. I think Gaviglio will be motivated and will dominate the Sun Devils. I see him going 8 innings and allowing 1 run on 4 hits type of outings for him. I also see Osich throwing his best game as a Beaver. He pitched well vs the Wildcats, considering pitching in Tucson is never easy. I think he might overpower the Sun Devils. Ben Wetzler is a unknown. He’s kind of up and down and I think he might struggle. He’s young so you never know. If the Beavers are going for a sweep on Sunday they could win. Even though Wetzler could struggle, Sun Devils might help him out. They could panic, feeling the pressure and take themselves out of the game by doing too much. Avoiding the sweep on the road can be tough.

I think they could play Acosta in the series as a DH and let him mash. He’s a pretty good hitter and hasn’t had much time in a while. Would like to see how he does.

A sweep over the Devils would be huge. It could vault the Beavers to first place and move them up on the regional hosts. I think it’s big for the Beavers to be a regional host and be paired with the #5,6,7 or 8 national seed in a potential super regional matchup. Much easier to reach Omaha then.

    • Should have been more clear. With Berberet, Hayes, Keyes, Dunn, Barnes and Bell the Beavers can make up what they’re losing with Susac. Just so there’s no confusion.

      • I don’t understand this argument. If this were true, why would a MLB club every buy a great player? Just buy five okay players instead. It reminds me of the cartoon, Voltron.

Anyway, when it’s the bottom of 9th, and Casey has to send up Hayes, Keyes, or Dunn instead of Susac you’ll understand why it’s a big deal. A feared hitter influenced the entire lineup (e.g. things like pitch selection of the guys in front of him). I expect the Beavers BB and BA to spike downward.

  4. I’m thinking about heading to the Beavs scrimmage today. There is beautiful weather today, anyone else going? Want me to do a full write up of what I see angry?

  5. I read that Michael Lamb is working with the 1s, and Cav has talked about starting Lamb and Colin Kelly. Not a word about Beaton, Enger, or Garner. Thoughts on Lamb and Kelly?

  6. Not a good start for Sam. Allows two hits and the Beavers are down 1-0. He’s not keeping his breaking ball down and it’s being hit hard. He needs to find command of that.

  7. 2-0 now Arizona State. Same problem. Same thing happening now could be same as last year. Hopefully he can get back to what he was doing pre-Arizona. They need him.

  8. Sam Gaviglio needs to throw a lot more fastballs. Arizona State can’t handle his fastball at all. All 5 of their hits have been on breaking balls and changeups.

  9. Nice. Back-to-back singles by Norris and Keyes. Need to pick up a run here and close the gap. Would be nice to tie it or take the lead though.

  10. Sam Gaviglio seems back on his game now. Retired 4 in a row and using his fastball more and getting his changeup and breaking ball down in the zone.

  11. Tyler Smith closes gap to 2-1 on an RBI single then runs the Beavers out of the inning. Did a great thing then a dumb thing. I guess I can’t hate on the guy too much for the baserunning blunder. He did drive in the run that was sorely needed. Hopefully Gaviglio shuts out ASU and keeps it a 2-1 game.

  12. Beavers are getting themselves out right now. Taking balls down the middle of the plate and swinging at balls out of the zone. They need to start getting aggressive.

  13. Tyler Smith increases the lead to 4-2 with an RBI single. Beavers have had some clutch base hits in the inning.

  14. Beavs showing a ton of fight and scrap versus one of the league’s best pitchers. Knocked Rodgers out of the game…5-2, Beavs.

Now the hardest part: closing this out. ASU will come out fighting.

    • On Cue, the ump misses an obvious strike 3 and the batter doubles…followed by a bunt single.

Time to get Boyd in this game.

  15. 5-2 Beavers. Ryan Barnes RBI single. Big hit there. Would be nice to add another run and increase this lead even further. Give Sam and the ‘Pen a comfortable lead.

    • That’s on Yeskie. He makes those decisions and based on the talk he had with Sam he left him in there. Casey should be the one making those calls.

      • What’s the chain of command there? Is Yeskie 100% in charge of pitching changes?
I remember last year Sam was overused in a couple starts (was in the 130 pitch range)…they’re going to blow this guy’s arm out, never mind that he lost effectiveness.

        • Yeskie I think has the majority of the decisions. Pat sometimes decides to he wants a guy out but he gives Yeskie a ton of freedom with the pitching changes.

  16. Yeskie comes out and leaves Gaviglio in the game. I think this is a mistake. Don’t try to stretch a guy too long. This could backfire on the Beavers.

  17. Sam Gaviglio coming out for ninth? I think it’s only for first batter. If he pitches to more than one batter Pat Casey has officially lost his mind.

  18. I think Pat should have gone to Boyd. No reason to extend Gaviglio, especially with it being the second series in April.

  19. Big win by the Beavers. They beat the ace of Arizona State and have a chance to win the series tomorrow afternoon.

  20. I going to watch the game on Sunday weather permitting. It is supposed to start raining in the valley starting Saturday night and carry on until Monday. Anyone else planning on going to the game?

  21. I hate that I’ve lost the pulse of this team…I thought for sure they’d lose the Arizona series, and now it looks like I will be wrong about this series. For the OOC schedule I was spot on, but now I’m lost. Guess if they win this series I’ll have to rethink this and admit they’re better than I thought. Not that I ever thought they were bad, but I didn’t believe they were good enough to win series versus elite teams in the conference.

I’m almost afraid to buy in…I have a feeling as soon as I do they’ll start losing.

    • I hear you there. I figured this game was over at 2-0. This team has a lot of fight and hopefully they can continue to withstand the loss of key players to injury. I’m still not sold on the pitching being able to hold up over the course of the season though. I hope I am proven wrong.

  22. Can’t wait to watch the game on Root Sports tomorrow. Let’s take this series in Game 2 guys! Great win today. Keep it up BEAVERS!

  23. Glad you guys are almost buying in. I was probably the only one of us who was buying in from the beginning haha I could see the potential, they were just young. They’re really coming along and have a ton of heart and are really mentally tough. Tonight was a perfect example of that. Past Beaver teams may have just folded and allowed this to turn into a long losing streak. This squad fought and scrapped and found a way to win against a really good pitcher. That shows a lot of growth. If they can win the series and maybe sweep the Sun Devils, it will make the confidence of this team sky high.

Should be interesting to see how Osich and Wetzler do the next two days. Glad tomorrow’s game is on tv finally.

C’mon guys, get on the bandwagon full time lol

    • The best way to put it is that I thought they’d go 0-3 or 1-2 versus elite teams and go 2-1 versus teams like Oregon, USC, etc. Then rely on their OCC schedule to get to the 35 win mark and be on the bubble with a good record/bad RPI. If they’re winning series versus the Arizona schools it forces reevaluation. What they’re showing is that chemistry means a lot. This year’s chemistry is better (this was noticeable from game 1) than last years. I loved seeing Stamps make the diving catch and all the guys rally around him like kids. Things like that go a long way.

I guess the one reason I am not completely sold is that the sample versus elite teams is still small, and also they’ve been winning with clutch, timely hitting, which is difficult to do for long stretches.

I’m going to wait until after Stanford to decide if this team is elite, as we’ll have faced 3 of the 4 best teams in the conference (minus UCLAs pitching–curious to see how we do versus that staff as well).

      • I would say it’s difficult to continually get clutch timely hits if it’s the same guys getting them. It’s spread out throughout the lineup, so it could continue. I would say if the Beavers win the ASU series and the Stanford series that the team will be as confident as can be and will continue to roll. It will tell a lot about this team if they can do that. I personally don’t think they will win the Stanford series because Stanford is damn good and it’s on the road, but if they do win, that will show they are the real deal.

They also could have Jake Rodriguez back for that Stanford series, that would be a big addition. Curious to see how he would do in that series.

    • Shows you how bad Oregon is. Washington is an awful team right now and Oregon’s inability to score just 1 run late cost them a game. I don’t see them turning it around soon. Will be a very long season for them.

        • Hahahahahaha, I’d believe it. Speaking of Omaha, I will be purchasing my tickets to the College World Series in Omaha in a few days. Hopefully I will be able to see the Beavers in the College World Series this season.

  24. OSUbeavers.com isn’t streaming the game today (thus no ohlulz.com, either). I know it’s on FSN (Root Sports whatever), but unfortunately that doesn’t do us poor folks who don’t live in the great pacific northwest anymore much good. Do any of you have the ability to set up a stream? It’s not hard if you have a pc with a tv tuner and a decent broadband connection…

    • Craig, if you have instructions on how to do it you should post them, as it will increase the odds someone does it.

I’m going to go over to my apartment’s workout room, as they have a TV with FSN, and cross my fingers it’s on there.

      • I can’t believe it, but I actually get the game after all down here in southern Lousiana. I forgot I had Fox College Sports Pacific channel.

  25. Anyone else not getting the game on TV? I have it tuned to Root sports NW and all i get is message Check back often to see if your favorite team is playing in HD. It is also accompanied by some TERRIBLE Jazz music

  26. I would just go watch the game, but I am going to the Digging for Dylan charity event tonight with my family. It starts at 5 and I really don’t want to spend all evening in Corvallis.

  27. Man, I love Pat Casey…dude is a straight shooter. Anyone listen to him and Parker on KPAM just now? Regarding Stamps sitting: “We can’t have 5 guys in the lineup who can’t hit.”

    lol

  28. No one mention the pink elephant in the room…deal?

Also, I have a good feeling about today. So far so good. Wish I could watch the game…I don’t think I like this working on Saturday’s business. lol oh well, at least my boss is a die hard beaver fan and let’s me listen to the game and access this blog while i’m working. :)

  29. Osich pitches like a little girl pulling flower petals…
    “I can throw a strike, I can’t throw a strike”…

2R HR by ASU. Hit batter and a 3-1 pitch blasted to left.

  30. Wow, Ryan Dunn with a horrible base running decision….

Norris picks him up, 2-run single.

2-2. Beavs should have the lead.

  31. Home plate umpire terrible again today. Keeps expanding the zone further and further. Same pitch he called a ball twice earlier in the at-bat, he then calls it a strike twice to strike out Berberet. No consistency whatsoever.

  32. That home run probably sealed the deal. The Beavers scoring another 4 runs just doesn’t seem too likely at this point. This is a really bad loss IMO. They have beaten themselves with really bad decisions all day

  33. 6-2 ASU, after a 3run HR…that after a bunch of Beaver mental blunders.

This is why I have a hard time buying in completely.

We need a 2nd solid starter and more consistency. Osich is unreliable. Wetzler is a rookie, so he is what he is…I can’t ask much more than what he’s given. The #2 pitching slot is a problem. My opinion is Boyd should be moved there…figure out the pen through trial and error. Maybe Dunn, Bryant, or Starr can take over as closer. Osich should be moved to middle/long relief.

    • Don’t understand the thought process of putting Boyd as a starter. He’s done nothing to suggest he’d be a really good starting pitcher. To me he’s just a relief pitcher. He’s a fantastic relief pitcher but I’m not sure he’ll be a fantastic starter.

      • Because he was excellent in his two career starts:

        Maine (3/21/2010) 6 1/3 innings, 4 hits 1 run, W
        UC Riverside (3/4/2010) 6 2/3 innings, 7k, W

And was also slated to be a starter this year before Casey decided, for whatever reason (probably a thin pen) to go with Booser/Wetzler and now Osich/Wetzler.

He’s actually done nothing to suggest he wouldn’t be a really good starter.

          • Your argument makes no sense. What did Osich do against PAC-10 opponents to “suggest he’d be really a good starter”?

Boyd has dominated whomever he’s faced, including Pac-10 hitters (as a reliever) and went deep/pitched excellent versus two OOC opponents in the two games he started. Yet, you’re saying there’s no reason to think he’d be a good starter.

            Rethink this one.

          • When did I say Osich is a good starter? He has the potential to be a really good one but right now he’s not. He’s up and down and lacks consistency, I haven’t denied that. Osich did have a pretty good outing against a good hitting Arizona team though. Boyd had two good starts last year, but this season when pitching beyond two innings hasn’t been so good. He cruises for two innings and then Tony Bryant has had to bail him out. I’m not saying Boyd couldn’t be a good starting pitcher but he hasn’t shown this year he could go 5 innings or longer.

  34. Even with a loss today, it won’t be a huge deal. They’ll bounce back tomorrow. The goal is always to win the series and they still have that. Hoping for a comeback today but it’s not likely.

  35. Beavs making a little noise…1st and 2nd nobody out. Need a couple runs here to have a shot.

Update: Ryan Dunn with a single on a 0-2 pitch. He’s a pretty good hitter.

6-3, ASU…Beavs looking to chip away some more.

  36. Tremendous bunt by Tyler Smith down the third base line. 3B couldn’t find the handle and the Beavers have the bases loaded with no outs. Things are breaking their way.

  37. Michael Miller HBP and it’s 6-4 now. Bases still loaded with no outs. Michael Miller pretty much let it hit him.

  38. What makes it tough is, Beaver pitchers have been getting squeezed all game and Sun Devil pitchers have enormous strike zones. Same as last night

    • It’s a weird situation…do you bunt or hit?

Edit: nice, they put Stamps in, they’re going to go for the steal. This is the right move…gotta grab that base and have two shots to single and drive him home.

    • True.
Can’t help but be annoyed, though–they should be winning this game and would be had they played decent fundamentals. If they lose it could be a heart breaker (think UCLA last year). They have to finish this one off in the bottom half. Beavs aren’t built for extra frames.

    • Yes. He has squeezed Beaver pitchers all afternoon. The second batter of the inning should have gone down on strikes. Ball was a little above the knees and got a big part of the plate but he wouldn’t call it. He has an enormous for ASU though. Surprised Pat Casey hasn’t lost his mind yet.

  39. Jared Norris falling back into that bad pattern of his. He’s not being aggressive and taking fastballs down the heart of the plate.

  40. It’s the right play to bunt there, but that’s a terrible job by walk-on, Max Gordon. He better steal this bag to make up for it.

Luke Acosta could take Hayes’ place in the lineup. Or Gorton can more to C.

  41. Jared Norris has become a clutch hitter. he has had big hit after big hit the last few weeks. Winning run on third base. Got to get this run home

  42. Beavers win! Yes! Great comeback victory by the Beavers. They got a shot for the sweep tomorrow which would be huge.

  43. WOW!!! Told you I had a good feeling about today!!! Who just won the series against ASU?! I think that’s OOOOOOOOOO SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS UUUUUUUUUUUU!!!! OREGON STATE!!! FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!!!

  44. These guys have heart. Down by 4 to fight back and win the game. I am really impressed. I just bought two tickets for our sweep tomorrow!

  45. The walked in winner takes nothing away from the way the Beavs are keeping their heads in games right now, not seeming to give up at all. Think how much these come from behind wins will reinforce that spirit. Great job on several fronts today, mainly never giving up. Team spirit/chemistry so much to be admired.

    • Why would a walk take anything away? A walk is an earned positive. Many players would swing at those pitches; Stamps was rewarded for his patience/batting eye and the opponent’s folly. That’s what good teams do.

      • Doesn’t matter how you win, just that you won. The team showed a ton of heart and never gave up, despite everything seemingly going against them the first 6 1/2 innings. They found a way to win a game they were outplayed in for the good majority of it. That definitely gives them a ton of confidence that they can beat anybody.

      • Agreed, it takes smart play to take full advantage of opponents weakness; but it still is the opponents weakness that is needed for it to work out. Just sayin’ the groundwork which was laid earlier was the highlight for me. Wow, 14 hits today for Beavs.

        • I think it was important for the Beavers to get a ton of clutch hits by guys not named Andrew Susac and for them to know they’re damn good even without Andrew Susac. It gives them more confidence, especially that now they know they can beat one of the best teams in the nation without their best player. That bolds well come postseason time. It’s nice seeing so many guys stepping up and the team showing so much toughness.

    • If they sweep the Sun Devils they could make their way to the top 10 or maybe just barely outside of the top 10. It’s been a long time since a Beaver team during the season was ranked in the top 10. Pretty exciting stuff.

  46. I will go to a game this year! I’m thinking a Sunday game soon!!! I would love to go tomorrow, but I have a ton of homework to do!

  47. ASU hasn’t been swept in Pac-10 play since 1999…12 years. That is pretty incredible.
I’d imagine the Beavs jump to 12ish with a sweep since some teams in front of them (like LSU and GaTech) lost and ASU has the #4 RPI (Beavs are in the 20s right now). If they take 2 of 3 I’d imagine 14 or 15…

    • Shows you how big a series sweep would be over them. I would a sweep over ASU and a series win over Stanford would definitely put them in the top 10. How you holding up that you’ve been wrong about the team the first two series of conference play?

      • I don’t like being wrong, but this is the good type of being wrong.
Also, this is the type of comment that makes running a site pretty ridiculous. Nobody says a word when I predict 10 straight series correctly, but there’s always someone waiting to point out when I’m wrong. I’ll deal with it, but it works both ways, so you’ll hear from me when they start to choke. There’s still half a season left, so that is inevitable.

The bottom line is they’re probably not as great as they look right now, but they’re a good team that will be in the post-season. They lack a #2 starter, and that is a huge issue that isn’t going away.

  48. Can someone explain why Stanford is considered an elite team? They beat Rice, but that team is down this year, having lost series to Dallas Baptist, UCF, and Louisiana-Lafayette. Take away Rice and Stanford has lost series with the other good teams (Texas and Vanderbilt) they’ve played. Right now they’re beating up on the lower half of the Pac-10 and padding numbers, but I don’t see their ranking as being justified or battle-tested. The computers love them. I must be missing something.

  49. I didn’t get to listen to the game today and I’ve just now read Lindsey Schnell’s write-up. Can someone explain this to me: “OSU (23-7, 4-1) tied it up in the eighth when Tyler Smith — OSU’s last batter — singled to score Kavin Keyes.” How was he the last batter if he singled and a baserunner scored? I can only assume there was another baserunner who was then thrown out?

  50. Angry,

you’re not expected to be right nor wrong. You’re expected to give your opinion, observations, knowledge, and see if it matches our thoughts, opinions, and observations. It just happens that you’re right or spot on with a
lot of topics. This is also a perfect example of why the pac-12 needs their own network to get a fantastic idea of the conference as a whole, vs. Reading what we can find on the internet.

also, you seem more of a pecimist that hopes he’s wrong(but doesn’t think he is wrong) than an optimist who hopes for the best and tries to look ahead for brighter days when shit hits the fan.

    sent from my palm-

  51. Angry, you may be wrong but often so are the talking heads of ESPN on their weekly predictions. This site provides one of the best (if not the) forums for discussion and sports talk around. Keep up the good work and the articulate thoughts, it is always nice to read and contribue to these discussions. Much better than half of the ESPN product.

  52. How much of OSU’s success in this series do you think can be attributed to ASU being ineligible for post-season play?

It’s probably tough for the Sun Devils to find any purpose outside individual statistics and draft positioning.

    • It has nothing to do with that at all. The truth is there is a good chance ASU plays in a regional. The committee isn’t likely to have a decision by selection monday, so they are playing expecting to play in a regional. They have to make their final ruling by the final day of the regular season for them not to be in the postseason. I will be pretty surprised if they don’t play in the postseason. I’m okay with them playing in the postseason because that gives the conference another team in the postseason.

      • The appeal is on May 16th, and Selection Monday is May 30th.

The appeals committee can change an infractions committee ruling only if a school can prove it was clearly contrary to the evidence, did not break NCAA rules (which ASU admits to in the baseball case), there was a procedural error or the penalty was excessive and is an abuse of discretion.

They’re going to have a hard time proving any of that since ASU already admitted guilt and the NCAA had enough evidence to impose stiff penalty.

But, yeah, it is possible (though not probable) they play in the post season. The late appeal looks strategic more than anything…basically, hold it late so the kids don’t give up on this season. If they thought they had a shot at winning the appeal wouldn’t they hold it after May 30th and just serve the ban next season?? That would be wise since they won’t be as good next year.

  53. Baseball grandslam for my teams yesterday. Mets, A’s and Beavers win, Ducks lose. My coffee never tasted better. Could the same results possibly be duplicated today?

    • Same, except I prefer the Giants to the A’s…Giants are my west coast team, Mets from back east.
Yankees won, unfortunately, so it wasn’t the perfect day, but about as close as one gets following these teams.

      • Only 1 out of 2 for me. The Beavers won but the Mariners lost. Then again, hoping the Mariners win with their embarrassing offense is too much to ask

      • I have always been Mets for the NL and A’s for the AL. Some of those A’s/Giants interleague games have a nasty atmosphere, the fans do not like each other!
