The game has been moved to noon (from 2:30) due to inclement weather.
The matchup is Ben Wetzler (3-0, 4.70) vs Justin Jones (2-1, 4.05).
Beavs are 26-31 all-time at Cal. They swept there last year, but only 7 guys remain on the roster. Cal is 11-4 so far this year and have a good team. This will be a tough series if the pitching doesn't show up.
We’ll win the series. In fact, I think we buckle down this week.
How can Casey think that Conforto and Davis aren’t the bee’s knees?
Then again, I sure didn’t think they would amount to anything. Gee golly and neat-o! I didn’t even know who they were. Heck-o-mighty… I thought since they weren’t drafted in the first two rounds that they didn’t tell every scout possible that they were coming to OSU come hell or high water. They must have been completely missed by those pro scout types.
Gee golly yeah….
Dontcha know?
3-4 for three years… and it should have been that way from day one.
Am I too resolute?
Jack, sometimes you confuse me. Do you have a personality disorder? Sometimes you have deep thinking well informed and educated posts. Sometimes they are like this.
Do these confuse you?
Because I could have fun with just that.
I sometimes think in three or four planes. Maybe this is one of those times.
Baseball is pretty solid on stats and numbers. I don’t think I want to devolve the game beyond the statistical fantasy I created when I was ten.
Or did I just bore the population again?
I promise that’s anything but true in real life.
I think I like to walk on the beach and make someone somewhere think highly of me…
What was I saying?
I think the Beavers take 2 of 3 but all the games will be tight. Hopefully Wetzler can build off last Friday’s win start and develop consistency and be that top of the rotation guy. He has the stuff, just needs consistency. I’m interested to see how Child and Fry do. Child has been really good his last two starts, a little step up in competition in Cal, hopefully he keeps up the good pitching and be a good #2/#3 guy for the Beavers. He has an electric fastball, he has a chance to be really good this season. Loved what I saw out of Jace Fry his last start, I assume his pitch count will be around 75-80 this start, hopefully they can get 5-6 innings out of him and not have to bring in the bullpen too soon. He’s got a great arm, I expect big things from him.
Conforto and Davis have been awesome so far. If they continue to have a solid approach at the plate they will put up some big numbers. Hard to believe they’re just freshman. Those guys in a couple years are going to be insane. Once Keyes gets going this offense is going to score a lot of runs. Keyes is too good of a hitter to continue struggling like he is. He will figure things out. When he gets hot and you put him with Smith, Conforto, Davis, Dunn, Rodriguez and Barnes, the offense is gonna look so damn good.
First time in a while you can really say 1-8 in the order the Beavers are really stacked with great average hitters and a bunch of hitters with pop. It adds a dynamic that Casey simply hasn’t had the last few years. This team has the ability to string together big innings at any time. It is great to see.
Let’s see the Beavers get off to a good start in conference play!
I so much agree with Conforto and Davis. Those two have been alll that since before the season. Then we add Smith, Jake, and somebody (?) in the outfield….
What do we have to lose?
I have more…. I just don’t need to say more.
Awk! I sound like a gumbah!
Good rundown, GB90 (BB).
Two thoughts here,
1) All hitters encounter slumps and it will be so with Conforto and Davis. There will be times when 1-8 are hitting for good avg, but sometime this season guys like Keyes, Dunn, etc will have to pick up the slack.
2) Recently Casey phrased a concept in a way I hadn’t heard, “Defense and Pitching win games, hitting just determines by how much”
That’s a great quote, and so true. I’d take 3 aces and 9 Bid McPhees over 3 mashers any day.
I may be old but, no, I never saw Bid play!
Bare handed at second base……wow.
Good luck to the grapplers.
Quick Poll: What is the root cause of Jack’s recent barrage of seemingly random posts?
1.) Tourette Syndrome
2.) Dementia
3.) Stroke
4.) little Jasonthebeaver has hijacked his account
5.) other
Little Jasonthebeaver has cracked into Jack’s account but Jack has dementia so he thinks Jason is himself. And so it goes on and on and on and on and……….
Little JasontheBeaver has a huge man crush on Jack. It reminds me of the relationship between Stevie and Kenny Powers on Eastbound & Down.
Awesome show.
Too much Caf Pow? Really gets Abby going.
Caf Pow? Is that like Kung Pao… only made with veal?
6.)]} It’s a special time of year when FReepers swarm the internets with their intentional ignorant propaganda. I’m not sure why they bother me so much. But they are an insidious and un-American group of complete ass-hats whose ideas seem to permeate weak and fearful minds with ease. Sometimes I just wish I was as brain dead as the tea-monkeys or the birthers. Life would be so much easier if I couldn’t comprehend anything rational.
So it seems we’re all complaining about a Robinson. It’s just that your ideas are based on the incoherent rants of a man in Fresno, and mine are combating them.
One of your better posts! Good to see that the “organic parsley” growing in your garden is finally starting to sprout which could help ease your pain. Remember that humor is also medicinal and just listening to the GOP debates can bring relief. I think living in a fantasy tea party world is like watching Alice in Wonderland.
Listening to the GOP debates has been a mind-blowing experience. Surreal doesn’t even start to cover that particular condition.
The book, Alice in Wonderland, makes sense and is woven with wisdom – but you said “watching” so maybe the videos/movies don’t do it justice.
lmfao at “ass-hats”!
You know our country is in a sad place when people are demonized for being successful and wild ideas like not spending money you don’t have are considered irrational.
Well said but I don’t think it’s a new attitude amongst the majority in this country. People wanted to string up the “1%”.
Orwell’s Animal Farm all over again during the occupy protests.
Political comments should be in the forums. There’s a free for all that’s there for this reason.
I can stomach political jokes here, but if you’re going to engage in serious debate take it there.
Update: I even made a thread for you all.
http://angrybeavs.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=316
Did we just get sent to our room? lol
Thank you.. well put. I agree. JB
Thank you…the endless (and never consummated) debate should be elsewhere, otherwise it’s too easy for me to spew caustic sarcasm after an early night of drinking….
6) Watching College Basketball games 24/7…
7.) CBI.. confusion? A rarely seen and seldom diagnosed strain of March Madness?
Just read the O-live columns on the girls victory in the WNIT and Casey’s comments about going into the Cal series. I was struck by the common thread…..these two give specific examples of the good AND bad in the performance by their teams. There is very little of the “we’ve got to try to find our identity” type of pap we get from others.
Gals play St Mary’s Saturday night, a rematch which should be a real barn burner!
Does that mean that MR and CR occasionally give us “pap smears”?
The weather is not looking good for today’s game.
Officially ppd to tomorrow noon and will play 2.
thanks for the update
Official release:
BERKELEY, Calif. – The 25th-ranked Oregon State baseball team’s Pac-12 Conference opener against California has been rained out. The game, scheduled for noon Friday, will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday at Evans Diamond.
Game one Saturday is scheduled for noon. Game two will be played shortly after the completion of game one.
Sunday’s series finale is set for noon.
Each of the three games will be available on the Beaver Sports Radio Network and Beaver Nation Online (osubeavers.com). For a full listing of stations, visit the baseball page on osubeavers.com.
Probably a good thing we didn’t play today. It was a bad day for the favorite in the P12. WSU blanks zona 6-0, UCLA over forks 6-5, dawgs pound ducks 8-3 and Utah takes two from SC 1-0 and 3-1.
It was Beaver vs Gopher in wrestling at NCAA’s in the HWT semis. Gopher won.
Some great games in the dance. Did anyone else notice the size of several of the Lehigh cheerleaders? Huge! And to clarify, I’m referring to the female ones. I think I’ve found our missing DT’s for the football team.
Congrats to Beaver wrestlers. 11th place going into the last day.
Remmers had four offside penalties at the OSU pro day………………… “Neat.”
Also provided proof that he is weak AND slow. Sounds like a perfect LT. More evidence of
why we sucked the last couple years.
I don’t know why but I just bought tickets for the TCU Monday. I swore after the W. Illinois debacle that I was done. Hurry there are only about 9,000 seats left!!
PS: beavergopher.. I saw your request to wear a loud shirt so you could pick me out. No need… I’m easy to spot in a small crowd. Look for; goofy glasses, wide white belt and shiny white patent leather loafers. I haven’t updated my look since 1995.
Elvis?
Dude… ripped me off. He did however add sequins and the sash. JB
Does Cal have artificial turf?
http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/berkeley-ca/94704/hourly-weather-forecast/332044
Looks O.K. for the 1st game but the 2nd might be iffy.
All the grass in Berkeley is natural….. duh. JB
Not only does Cal not have artificial turf, but they don’t have lights. So any delays will mean playing extra on Sunday. These make for interesting coaching decisions (who to start, how to use the bullpen, etc.). Go Beavers.

Wow…. so you, his mom and his girlfriend give rip.. that makes what??? Three? JB
Oh I am sooo sorry to post that here, SORRY SORRY please don’t HATE on me! I will never post anything like that again. I don’t want to be blacklisted! You have definitely taught me a lesson I didn’t realize that post was something you didn’t care about, I will try to post more about how my life is crap and I wear white belts and white loafers still, or whether I bought a ticket to a basketball game! Just don’t Message Board embarass me again, please!!
Don’t be so hard on yourself. We all make mistakes. JB
He got destroyed by the #10 seed from Northwestern whose team was just ahead of us in the standings, might fall from the Top 10.
As posted before, only 3 of 12 Pac-12 schools even have “grapling” and it is a dying sport. There is little to know interest in sweaty men grabbing each other, gross.
There has got to be baseball or basketball news.
The three of you must be devastated! What a crushing defeat. I only hope he didn’t get too many noogies or a worse yet a wedgie!
There is always next year unless BDC cancels the.. err… sport? JB
Or an atomic wedgie.
Wow…. so you, his mom and his girlfriend give rip.. that makes what??? Three? JB
? @OSU_Wrestling
The Beavers are still in 10th place heading into the championship matches. Penn State, Minnesota, Iowa, Cornell & OK State are top-5.
I follow it beaverkman. Kid I went to high school with won a couple NCAA titles and an Olympic gold. Minn has a great program, but Pen State too tough this year. Great showing by the Beavers! Embrace a sport with an upside for our school fellow Angrybeavs! We know we will have arrived when the Ducks restart their program
And to those who say it is just a bunch of sweaty people grabbing each others crotches I say. Isn’t that the premise of every show with the Kardashians?
Looks like we have clinched 10th overall, great top ten finish, something to really build on.
Went to both Thursday NCAA sessions at the Rose Garden and one thing is apparent, the Beavs need a good center to go anywhere in the tournament next year. Burton can’t compete with how athletic most of the centers are.
Also, Indiana has so much depth on the team that playing only 6 or 7 will not be enough to go very deep.
We know what we got returning, but if we don’t get additional help from the recruits coming in, it may be an early exit next year.
It only takes 2-3 good players to turn a program around and CR needs to deliver.
http://www.radio84.com for radio broadcast of the game. The feed is from the Eugene affiliate. Click on Live broadcast link and then the station logo to start the stream.
thanks for finding that
It’s easy, I live down here ;)
On third baseman’s error the Beavers take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
stream?
See above. No video is usually available for baseball road games.
Got it, thanks.
Bases loaded two outs, chance for Keyes to come up with a big hit for his confidence and start getting things turned out.
And he grounds out. Keyes’ struggles continue.
Wetzler comes out and gives up a run. Not how you wanted him to start.
Sounds like Rodriguez should have handled that throw to prevent run #2 and get the third out. Wetzler?….doesn’t he always start out weak?
No, Wetzler usually starts out strong then gets hit hard the second and third time through the order. This is a bad sign.
Seems like last time out he was shakey for first couple innings, guess that was not typical for him. Certainly not as weak as today.
Go Beavs, can we conclude Wetzler stinks yet?
Yes.
imho, no
Why SAC bunt with your best hitter? Let me swing away?!?!
him?
Sorry having flashbacks…
5 left on through 2. Not gonna cut it.
Hope Wetzler has turned the corner with that K, only threw 2 balls and survived several fouls. Hope, not anything more.
Nobody LOB that inning, ha ha
One out, runners on 2 and 3…..got to see Smith get an RBI or two.
Tyler Smith is on fire at the plate.
Score?
5-2 Beavs at the end of 4.5 innings.
Conforto has been solid.
Time to pad the lead and get into Cal’s bullpen.
Beavs get to the Cal pen, has to be a good thing on a double header day.
Come on Ben, stay strong
Keyes with a base hit. He needed to get a hit in the worst way.
Two run single by Tommasini and it’s 7-2 Beavers
Bases loaded and 1 out for Tyler Smith. Chance for him to put this game almost out of reach.
Way to jinx him :)
7th inning, 7-2 Beavs
Beavers lead Cal 7-2 after 7 innings. Wetzler has pitched a strong 7 innings. Last 6 innings he’s given up just 3 hits and no runs. Really bounced back from a tough first inning to put in a really good performance.
Guess we can’t confirm Wetzler stinks yet. He was fairly hittable, but that was a quality start versus a the first good team he has faced.
Way to K Ben!
Does Fry pitch game 2?
No, he goes tomorrow
A squeeze by Dunn and an RBI groundout by Keyes make it 9-2 Beavers
Wetzler retires Cal in order. 8 innings, 4 strikeouts, 6 hits and 2 runs. Really stepped up today. I wonder what his pitch count is, would like to see him finish this game off and save all the guys in the bullpen for game 2.
started the 8th with 103 pitches
Still don’t trust him. He’ll have to do this a few more times.
Agree. It’s hard to relax at all with him on the mound. He hasn’t seemed really in control of things to me. (cf: Max Gordon’s saving catch earlier).
Child is the scheduled starter for game 2
Let’s hope Davis is saving his hits for the second game.
Being a Beaver fan you have to find something to complain about… 13 LOB!
Other scores–Dawgs blank ducks 5-0, had a 4 run 1st.
Hope the Ducks get swept.
Hey now.. I resent that.. lol
Huskies look pretty good.
FTd!
Beavers win 9-2! Nice way to open up the conference season.
Runners on first and second and no outs for Michael Conforto in the 1st
Lets go, can you spell MOMENTUM
Error makes it 1-0 Beavers
Davis sac fly, 2-0 Beavers
Add it up, Cal errors, Child pitches out at just the right time, first game results….the mental state of the Bears has to be shaken. Only their good pitching is gonna keep them in the fight. Beavs have got to pile on and put this away before the rain enters into the result.
Go Beavs, following the game from the tourney games in portland
Game tracker stuck on first game, anyone with better luck?
Go back to the OSU site and select the second game.
http://www.osubeavers.com/gametracker/launch/gt_mbasebl.html?event=1091575&school=orst&sport=mbasebl&camefrom=&startschool=&
Got it! Thanks
Ryan Dunn home run, 3-0 Beavers
Tyler Smith has been having some issues in the field
surprisingly yes.
Cal has done the Beavs a few favors on the basepath.
Beavers lead 3-1 after 5 innings. Bears got their run in the 5th thanks to an error by Tyler Smith.
Dunn makes a smart move to get a runner rounding second, Rodgriguez digs out a low pitch to throw out a runner at third. These guys are keeping their heads in the game, they both have made some mistakes, but not for lack of smarts or effort. What a contrast to the lack of focus and effort often seen on the FB field.
….or the BB team with a lead. Really doesn’t that seperate the good from the bad?
Yup, and it can be coached. Wish Riley had the stones to bench guys like Remmers.
Beaver offense needs to get it going. They lead 3-1 but they’re gonna need some more runs. Offensively they’ve struggled a bit against Flemer outside of Dunn’s home run.
Nice, Childs uses a sinker to get his 4th K and close out the fifth. Oops, close out the 6th.
Casey jaws w/ump over hit batter, I love his competitiveness. What a contrast to what we see from the FB staff.
I’m really preachin’ to the choir today!
Double play to end the Cal 7th ! Beavs still on top by 3-1.
Just what we needed.
Child gets a DP to end the 7th. Big time pitch there.
Lead off runner on. Need to get this run in.
Amen, nail (s) in the coffin.
In both games today the Beavers have really executed the sacrifices well.
Great start from Child today. 8 innings, 4 hits, 6 strikeouts and no earned runs. 1 run allowed was unearned because of a Tyler Smith error. DH has gone about as well as Pat Casey could have hoped.
Another Sac, Dunn hustles, Cal commits error, runners on 1 and 2 no outs and Barnes lays one down.
Runners on first and second and no outs for Barnes. Time to add some insurance runs.
Bases loaded for Jake Rodriguez and 1 out. Time for Jake to hit a grand slam and pretty much put this one away.
4-1 Beavers. Bases loaded for Tommasini
Childs left in to start 9th, finished 8th strong so makes sense. Bryant is ready and should be brought in sooner rather than later.
Yeske agrees, pulls Childs after 1st pitch results in a double. Got to buy that guy a drink…….NOT.
Tony Bryant coming in to close this one out with a runner on second and no outs. Great outing from Child.
Can’t complain about the move, and they get Bryant in right away before any damage done.
Bryant ends it with a K!
Beavers win 4-1! Beavers sweep DH and can sweep the series tomorrow.
Impressive two games. Not much to complain about other than three more errors/bad fielding. Beavs need to re-lace their gloves.
Or maybe go gloveless?………………still thinkin’ about Bid McPhee.
Don’t sell yourself short angry, you can find fault in everything OSU and usually do. Some day you will realize this is college not MLB and the Beaver opponents commit several errors as well. Today Cal made errors and bonehead baserunning. Last week after one game you thought OSU were a bottom feeder in the Pac 12 and Wetzler was pond scum. You so let the moment cloud the big picture. But I’m sure you will come back with some witty comment like Jack thinking you have won the day.
You really are negative.
Let the justification begin chump
OSU is an athletics disaster, so there are obvious faults.
I never said OSU’s baseball team were bottom feeders (picked them 35th in the preseason and said they could move higher). Wetzler hasn’t won me over. Dude was bad last year, and bad most of this year. Sure you’re not the one missing the bigger picture? I could make idiotic comments about how and why you’re too positive and nothing more than a vapid cheerleader.
Define disaster. Compared to who, Oregon, the rest of the Pac 12 or all of the NCAA. Certain sports, just football, just mens or $$$.
Dig deep in that negative brain of depression and hate and lets hear it all.
if you hate his blog so much maybe you should read a different one instead of telling him why you think he sucks. that way you won’t come across so douchey
Most people don’t care about gymnastics, grappling, or baseball. It’s cool we’re good at those (especially baseball), but there have been historical failures in both men’s sports.
a. 28 years
b. longest NCAA tourney drought
I mean, these are epic fails. Are both up from the bottom? Yes. Are they where they need to be? Nope.
@ Anti Angry
GFY
Sweet sweep. It’s a great day to be a Beaver!
The Huskies just tied the Ducks in the 9th, so they have a chance to sweep them. Ducks could start league play 0-3.
I like that!
Ducks won the second game in 13 innings 3-2 dammit!
ducks only used 2 pitchers in 13 innings. dawgs out hit them 10-4 and had 10 LOB. Only 367 fans watched the game.
Did I hear Parker right? Attendance 550? Sheesh, we had 801 at the WNIT the other night and that was a disappointment.
Wetzler and Child pitched really well today. Both went 8 innings. Beavers starting pitching is really beginning to come along. Looking forward to Fry’s start tomorrow. A sweep over the Bears would be big and give the guys a ton of confidence heading into another really tough series against the Wildcats next weekend at Goss.
Good post, but you were positive. Tear him up angry man.
Beavers place 10th at wrestling nationals.
Congrats Beavers. This is great. OSU has a strong program, along with Casey the best coach at OSU. With limit resources compared to Big 10 County and the East the Beavers have real success.
Complain about this angry. No national title in a sport many don’t appreciate. Get em.
Lady Beavs win 56-41 over St Marys, and advance in the WNIT!
If you accept the premise that sports are for entertainment and enjoyment then this website, as a subset, of sports fulfills that definition.
Angry deserves a lot a credit of allowing all types of divergent personalities to express themselves here. It’s always interesting to check-in and see what’s going on…. a few people need to develop a thicker skin when they are singled out for individual attention. JB
PS: to little JasontheBeaver.. I hear you are going for your driver’s license test tomorrow. Good luck. Remember you are taking on a lot of responsibility!
you’re a good dude mr pettibonehead. i;m glad you’ve started to contribute other then making the same joke over and over again.
Thanks.. fist bump.
PBH was intended as a one time deal. Jack kept pouring gasoline on the fire so I had no choice, when challenged, but to respond. He served up some irresistible material. PBH went places I had never imagined at the outset, but your’e right, he was ready for retirement.
Maybe a brief reprise in the fall when the Riley’s annual comedy of errors begins??? JB
Reprise, please.
JB, that’s the best post you’ve ever made. Out of nowhere! See, I can like THAT JB.
Now just because I’ve encouraged you don’t stray from that kind of insightful, contributory thinking.
We’ll get past this inexplicable hatred you have for me.
@ anti angry- maybe you should try contirbuting to the site’s content in a relative way (i.e. talk about beaver athletics) rather than just bitch and moan about it. or start your own blog since you thnk angry’s so shitty at it.
? @Beaver_Baseball Today’s lineup: Gordon-CF, Smith-SS, Conforto-LF, Davis-RF, Barnes-1B, Wetzler-DH, Rodriguez-C, Tommasini-2B, Fry-LHP. #gobeavs
add Dunn to the five hole.
How cool would it be if Fry just dominated the Bears lineup? Is it too early in his career to expect that?
Yes Ben Wetzler as DH
anybody got a link to sunday’s game?
Pettibonehead is and has always been the funniest commenter here. Pretty much laugh at every comment he makes. Never understand why people got upset with him going after JackBeav–that was pretty hilarious banter.
Probably has to do with how seriously each of us take direct insults. As JB pointed out, many need to grow thicker skin, me being at the top of that list.
Once again Angry, we agree.
Thanks Angry.. high praise indeed.
I enjoy this little playground you created and its interesting cast of characters. JB
PS: I know you understand… but for some of you, that is not an example of sarcasm.
Group hug.
xxoxoxo
Only if someone promises to cop a feel.
For whatever reason I picture antiangry as a teenaged girl, possibly doing his hair between posts and giggling. DFTT
Fry on the mound- ok, lets see it, kid
FWIW:
620 AM Portland Metro area
Looking at next years football schedule and trying to get out to Corvallis for a game.
Do any of the posters have a tailgating spots?
Is school in session for the first game?
Is the band up and running for the first game?
Why the first game? I’ve been to one game every year the last four years and they have lost every
one! I must be a good luck charm. I would think they should win that one, but Sac State is still fresh in my memory.
School isn’t in session, and the band is usually an alumni band. It is usually good short sleeve weather though. There’s plenty of Tailgating I don’t know where the best places are. We tailgate in Avery Park, which is a medium walk to the stadium.
Tailgating at the fairgrounds on 53rd is really good. As much room as you want, free parking, and a $2 shuttle to the game.
Beavs up 5-0 after 1.5
5-3, tough inning: bad pitching, one error
Hey, you might want to hang out in the game 3 thread.
