Biggest Non Conference game of the year in my opinion. Taylor Starr in the program since 2008, longer than the ducks program. I’m really excited to see what he’s made of on this one.
Beavers go down 1-2-3 to start the game, all groundouts. Although they went down in order, I like the Beavers’ matchup against lefty with such a right hand dominant lineup. Need a good start from Starr though.
It is but he’s so incredibly patient at the plate and a good hitter, not too surprising. I really can’t remember the last time I’ve seen him swing at a bad pitch. Such a great eye at the plate.
Duck catcher loses track of outs, pitcher serves up 3 WP’s……….Ducks coming out flat. They aren’t likely to score more than 5 runs tonight given their offense this season. Things lookin pretty good, but still need 21 more outs!
What’s happening to them is what I predicted would happen. Beavers beginning to get hot and the Ducks going through a little bit of a rough period. They had caught a lot of breaks in conference play before the WSU series, Beavers couldn’t catch any. Really felt the Beavers would get hot and it appears that may just be happening.
Exactly, Ducks were past due for a bit of a slump. Now, for them, it’s just a question of how long it lasts.
We’ll see if the Beavs can get hot and STAY that way.
I think they can get into a bit of a roll through the regular season. They still aren’t playing as well as they’re capable of and they’re getting hot. Once Dylan Davis starts making some adjustments and gets hot, the offense will be really dangerous. But the bullpen is a key. They have guys with the talent to figure things out, just need to get it done.
It certainly isn’t where it needs to be. Esposito and Gorton are better at blocking the pitches. Like to see Gorton be the starting catcher and Jake DH. Don’t want want to lose his bat, so DH is where I’d like to see him be.
I assumed they were using Gorton at DH so they could use him as a relief pitcher late in the game if needed. He hasn’t pitched in awhile though so I’d rather him just play catcher at this point.
This point in the game is where the Beavers need to get better. In the middle innings the Beavers need to start tacking on runs when they’re ahead. Don’t get comfortable with a five run lead. Make it 7 or 8. Keep adding on.
Taylor Starr has been really good tonight. 6 innings, 5 hits and 1 run allowed. He’s came a long way since February. Really good 4th starter for this team. That definitely matters come postseason.
What a start from Starr. That was probably his last batter and he finished in style. 7 innings, 7 strikeouts, 5 hits and 1 run allowed tonight. Such a great start. Came up big tonight.
He, so far, is missing an opportunity to regain some confidence; had to be saved by Tommasini to close out the inning.
Tommasini is a shot in the arm for the Beavs defense, sure would like to see him batting a bit more consistently.
A scoreless game after the top of the 4th. Beavs sit currently exactly half way through confrence play. Great game for Taylor Starr. I was hoping that he’d be finding his groove by around this point in the season and I’m very pleased. I love it when the dirty duck loses. Great to have a solid #4 starter. It can really pay off in post season. These midweek games display team depth to me. A lot of top ranked teams drop these mid week games. Same teams that get bounced in Regionals. Great win. Great day to be a Beaver.
always love beating oregon. they played like total dogshit though, shouldn’t be expecting that during the 3 game series. starr could become a big weapon down the stretch as a long reliever/starter.
They played poorly but their offense doesn’t surprise me. It isn’t very good right now and I would expect the Beavers’ starting pitching to take it to them at Goss at the end of the season. Oregon’s offense is shaky and I think the Beavers can definitely take a series from Oregon. I just think OSU is the better team.
Fentress quotes Duck SS “Sometimes its’ hard to show up for a Tuesday game,” UO shortstop Kevin Shepherd said. Maybe honest feelings, but really a disgusting attitude. Adds to the primadonna image the Ducks so richly deserve.
And, yeah, I’ve seen it on some of Riley’s teams. Does UCLA ring a bell?
AKA the Beavers wanted this one more and weren’t going to be denied. Ducks didn’t have a whole lot of fight in them and it wasn’t cause of injuries. Both teams have had adversity but the Beavers hung in there and haven’t let a few things bother them and go on a long losing streak. Longest losing streak this year is 3 games. They’ve bounced back and won 9 of 10. Interesting to see how Oregon will bounce back when adversity is hitting them.
One thing I like is the Beavers don’t usually give excuses when they have bad games, they just say they’ll get better and win some games. UO making excuses for a poor performance. Can’t say I’m surprised.
before game: “But it’s the Beavers. It’s a rivalry. We’ll show up just like any other game but it will have a little more zing to it. We’re ready to go.” -Kevin Shepherd
Just looking at the standings, Beavers have a chance to go by 3 teams this weekend. Tied for 4th with the Cardinal right now. If the Beavers sweep the Trojans, which is possible considering the Beavers are playing well and the Trojans can’t score. If Cal and Stanford each win 2 of 3 from Oregon and UCLA, respectively, the Beavers will be all alone in 2nd place and just 1 game behind first place Arizona. That would be crazy considering how many guys were expected to have big years and have disappointed so far. When this team starts truly clicking, look out.
Stanford vs UCLA should be very interesting. Is Stanford now ready to make a solid run to the post season? They may be getting hot at the right time and the series at Goss May 4-5-6 is gonna be worthy of national TV. At least Root has one game with Wilson in the booth.
I think Stanford is starting to put it together. That series at Goss next weekend will be a monster series. Winner of that will battle with Arizona till the final weekend for the Pac-12 title. I think Oregon and UCLA will be 4th and 5th in the conference. I do plan on going to that series. Should be an awesome series. Plan on going to the Sunday game and seeing a Beavers series win!
Me too but that series against Stanford is going to be tough. Can’t see either team wrapping up the series on Saturday and going for the sweep on Sunday, but if the Beavers do I will be ecstatic.
Won’t be too many holes to fill on offense, really. Conforto and Davis will be back, Jake will be back, Keyes will be back, hopefully he can bounce back and have a big junior campaign. Danny Hayes will probably be back, will be drafted late cause of this season. Jordan Dunatov, Ryan Howell, Max Gordon and if Matthews is back, will be battling for final starting outfield spot. Wouldn’t surprise me if they stick Jake at 2B and Esposito behind the plate if Esposito can improve his hitting. He’s their best defensive catcher, would start if improves with the bat. Keyes probably will be playing 3B. So that leaves DH and SS as 2 positions a freshman/JC player could make a run at.
Beavers have some really good hitters in the 2013 class, the two best may be Zach Green and Dylan LaVelle. But they’re going to go high in the draft, so more than likely they won’t be Beavers, hope they decide not to sign pro contracts though. Would be really big for the offense.
Jerad Casper is a hitter that will be a Beaver and will add some serious pop to the infield. He’s struggling a bit this year in JC, hitting just .232, but he’s a much better hitter than that. He has power and can be a guy who hits 5th or 6th for the Beavers cause of his ability to be a run producer.
Pitching side, they’ll need some help from the bullpen. They lose Boyd, Bryant, Starr. Guys like Mason Felt, Clay Bauer will have to step in. Carlos Rodriguez is the guy I expect to be closing out games next year. Can rush it up to 92-93 at times, just needs better command of his offspeed pitches and his fastball. Closer is a big spot, but I think he can handle it.
Andrew Moore is a guy I expect to be the team’s 4th starter as a freshman. Will be hard to break into the weekend rotation with Wetzler, Fry and Child pretty much locks to be them next year. Only an injury will change that. But Moore as a 4th starter has a chance to be really good. I expect him to be a weekend starter as a sophomore.
Really like the 2013 recruiting class. Should be a great team next season with all the returning talent.
You’re talking national averages. OSU comes in around 53% female and a 3.5 GPA. This helps in Title IX arguments since it’s a ration thingy. But it also smashes the stereotype that Nikegon has anything over us in sciences since we’re more apt to take a good student over a good payday. Out of state students who boost the Nikegon admissions to 48/52 male to female are silly when we spend twice as much as they do on research.
I have no idea about that admission stuff. I pretty much made it all up.
My point was and is, that the level of athlete generally admitted is not equipped to compete at the PAC-12 level. * I’ll defer to your mastery of admissions. JB
* reference PAC-12 results; men’s football and basketball 2011-12. Other sports don’t matter.
I try to stay away from the “dumb jock” argument. There are too many variables to count for admissions qualifications when talking about these kids. Some of the best students I’ve known came to college on a full ship with a 2.6 HS GPA. Some of the worst were valedictorians. But none were analogous to the overall numbers.
I trust the numbers on a macro level. But I only trust them if they’re correct.

Taylor Starr strikes out the side to send the Ducks down in order. Both pitchers off to a great start.
Any links or just gametracker for this one?
Wooo yeah!!! Thats a good start of the start for Starr
Ryan Gorton continues to stay hot, lead-off single to center to start the 2nd
Dunn walks and Barnes sacrifices to put runners on second and third with 1 out
RBI groundout by Davis and an RBI single by Rodriguez gives the Beavers a 2-0 lead going to the bottom of the 2nd. Great start.
this umpire must be a relative of starr’s.
Ducks get a couple two out hits but don’t score 2-0 Beavers after 2 innings.
Anyone have a stream or radio link?

radio84.com leads you to the link provided above by helmsley.
this is kknx a Eugene am station, always seems to be a good radio link.
Anyone have a stream?
Thanks
Double by Matthews and an RBI double by Tyler smith makes it 3-0 Beavers. Ducks going to the bullpen.
After Conforto is hit by a pitch, there’s a wild pitch and runners are on second and third and no outs for Ryan Gorton
Gorton walks. Bases loaded and nobody out for Ryan Dunn. Chance to blow this game open.
Based loaded, no outs. It would be nice to bust this thing open and get an easy win for once.
Wild pitch. Smith scores 4-0 Beavers. Runners on second and third for Dunn and no outs
RBI groundout by Dunn and it’s 5-0 Beavers. Gorton is at third with 1 out
ducks are reminding me of my old little league teams right now
6-0 Beavers after another wild pitch. This pitcher is the definition of wild. I’ll take it though.
Gorton’s on base percentage is .561 now. That’s insane.
It is but he’s so incredibly patient at the plate and a good hitter, not too surprising. I really can’t remember the last time I’ve seen him swing at a bad pitch. Such a great eye at the plate.

Rodriguez is going to murder our season down the stretch with his defense. So bad.

Ducks get 1 back on a wild pitch. 6-1 Beavers after 3 innings

Matthews an RBI double, nice to see him and Tommasini getting hits.
Tommasini singles and Matthews with an RBI double. 7-1 Beavers
7-1 Beavers after 4 innings.
7-1 Beavers through 5 innings. Really nice start from Taylor Starr so far.
Go Beavs!
My hatred for the Ducks always, for some reason, surprises me when it resurfaces. I think I need professional help.
Don’t change a thing.
Taylor Starr has been really good tonight. 6 innings, 5 hits and 1 run allowed. He’s came a long way since February. Really good 4th starter for this team. That definitely matters come postseason.
I’d like to see him pulled around 100 pitches, he was at 89 for the first out in the seventh.
Conforto a lead off single, now it time to pile on!
What a start from Starr. That was probably his last batter and he finished in style. 7 innings, 7 strikeouts, 5 hits and 1 run allowed tonight. Such a great start. Came up big tonight.
Sets up a good chance to look at the pen, Cole Brocker can get some work with a nice lead.
I do really love beating the Ducks.
F U O
Cole Brocker is simply not good. Walks 2 guys this inning. He always makes me nervous.
Gets out of the inning though. 7-1 Beavers after 8
He, so far, is missing an opportunity to regain some confidence; had to be saved by Tommasini to close out the inning.
Tommasini is a shot in the arm for the Beavs defense, sure would like to see him batting a bit more consistently.
It would be nice to see the Beavs get to the Ducks closer here.
Conforto a lead off single (again), time to pile on.
Really, stick the knife in!
Ducks are lucky they aren’t down more. Beavers have smoked some pitches for outs. Time to close this game out and get a good win.
Beavers win 7-1! Really good win. Now they got to keep things rolling this weekend against USC.
Excellent.

I’ve played many games on Tuesdays, and it was always easy to show up. It’s only hard to show up if you don’t like the game.
Taylor Starr in the same article, “Every game is big,” Starr said. “Tuesday games. Weekday games. Any game is big, especially in this conference…”

Yes sir. Pitcher, short stop, and #3 hitter!
I played shortstop and second-base… #1 hitter :)
I played left out.

The O’ lineman filled lots of holes… just ask Jacquizz. JB
Next years freshman class will have about a 49/51% female to male ratio. The mean SAT score will be in the 1105 range with an average 2.85 GPA.
The freshman admitted an on athletic scholarship basis will generally suck, compared to their peers in comparative PAC-12 institutions. JB
PS: Is it true that the spring game has been cancelled due to lack of interest…… by the players?
