Oregon State @ Washington/Seattle

187

I won’t be around tonight or tomorrow, so here’s an early start on this weekend’s games. I expect a clean sweep (Washington is a very bad 9-24, and Seattle is ranked #270 in the nation). Feel free to go off topic and discuss spring ball (it’s been quiet); on the apparel front, the new unis look good in white and orange.

The schedule is as follows:

04/19/13 at Washington * Seattle, Wash. 5:00 p.m. PT
04/20/13 at Washington * Seattle, Wash. 2:00 p.m. PT
04/21/13 at Washington * Seattle, Wash. 1:00 p.m. PT
04/22/13 at Seattle Seattle, Wash. 3:00 p.m. PT

    • Imagine the all orange in the CW with whatever the Ducks are wearing that day. UO could actually look understated in comparison…

I won't be surprised to see the players pick some orange/white combo, they've done it before.

I still don't care for the orange beaver on the white helmet, looks like Louisville too me. I thought the orange beaver on black helmet would have looked better, eliminates the the need for the black outline.

    • I agree regarding the all-orange unis; they just need some footies and it's time for nighty-night.  But mixed with black pants might help.  Orange top with white pants is the fighting creamsicles look.

    • I think these uni's really lose traction the sleeves.  The body looks good but the shoulders/sleeve distract from the entire image.  Also, the helmets remind me of a high school football team.

      • Yeah, dont like the sleeves.   And lose the white on the black unis, and the black on the white.    But cant complain about not having the school colors on any of them..lol….and they dont look like any other black/orange school unis I have seen.   The helmets are too busy except for the orange….no need for white, black and orange to be on the white and black uni helmets.

  1. Hey friends, haven't posted since the Alamo Bowl, but I've been going to the Spring practices. Here's a couple of observations that you all might be interested in:

    1. Sean Mannion is the clear #1 guy right now. I like Cody and he's doing fine, but clearly the #1 QB is Mannion. (#1 reps, performance, you can just tell)

    2. Obum lost his flippers, and has suddenly grown hands. He's catching the balls thrown at him and looks really good.

    3. The DB's are stout, as are the linebackers. I shit you not our DB's are kicking serious butt on the receivers. There is a real swagger there this year.

    4. Storm Woods is FAST.

    5. Michael Phillip is a stalwart, great attitude, leader.

    6. Even over the loud obnoxious rap music you can hear Cav swearing up a blue storm. P.S. the loud music sucks for fans

I think we are going to be good this year…

    • Thanks for the updates Bob!

Glad to hear that Obum is turning into a receiver – would love to see this guy get more redzone targets and become all around more reliable for the year.

    • I hope you are right about Mannion.  Reports from the Scout site are mixed, but the consensus has seemed to be that he has not clearly separated himself as the number 1 and both QBs are still getting reps with both teams.  There are mixed reports, some indicating Mannion is working hard and doing what he needs to do and others that he feels disenfranchised and is quasi mailing it in.

I hope your assessment is the accurate one.

        • haha.  Not a big Vaz fan here, and he's probably fumbled half those sacks.  But Mannion needs to clean his game up and take a step forward.  I'm hoping Bob is right, but everything else I've heard has been pretty lukewarm.

          • We have two QB's with serious flaws. Mannion probably has the higher upside, but the INT's are killers. Needs to have a short leash.

          • I'd rather have a QB throw an INT 30 yds downfield (assuming our receivers can tackle) than have a QB fumble 9 yds behind the line of scrimage.  Bad news for Angry, I listened to the Joe Beaver show today and one of the guys asked about Harrington and the one who'd been attending practice said that Richie looked to be the scout team QB and Vanderveen looked a lot better.

  2. I am still disappointed in the UNI change. I dont mind the new ones, but our last set was as clean and good looking as they get. These ones just dont do it for me. I like the logo, but the unis just arent as good as the last ones, imo.

  3. The RB position looks to be in very good shape:

    http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/150641-beavs-hope-woods-runs-up-a-storm-this%20season

I like the confidence and the willingness to share time. The current high end (Woods?) may not be as good as previous high ends (Jackson, Rodgers) but the depth may be better than ever.

I like Ward getting time at FB – some quick hitters up the middle should be go for some good gains.

    Looking forward to this season.

  4. A toolbar! Ooh fun.

    Double spacing on return… nice.

I don't even have to use alt codes anymore? !?ËÊÉÈ¡

I even get greeked with Cicero on the image button. But it should be adipisici.

    • "It may just be an equipment malfunction somewhere. Of course, that won’t stop someone from trying to claim it. The timing just seems all wrong since it was three hours after the winners crossed

The Marathon bombs look like they are a “right wing” attack. At least that’s what the general speculation is. Right wing domestics like to use multiple intermittent devices around the date April 19 and are less likely to claim responsibility for an event.

You nailed that one.  Open mouth – insert foot.  Hoping for a white American killer were you Jaqui?

Tamerlan Tsarnaev  attended a well know hot bed of right wing nuts known as Bunker Hill Community Colledge and his bro Dzhokhar Tsarnaev  attended another right wing boiling pot, Cambridge Rindge & Latin.

And as for the little piece on TV stars:

"One man’s patriot is another man’s gun running drug dealer who negotiates with terrorists then grows up to have his own TV show and be called a patriot by fucking stupid people".

Let's not let us forge to add other TV stars:  Al Sharpton – one man's Tawana Brawley supported and racial arsonist, another man's democratic presidential candidate – supported by fucking stupid people.

Or George Stephanopoulous, one mans's political hack – another man's news provided.

But you are correct – Oliver North should have gone to jail.  Fair and Balanced you know.

      • I'm not sure what you're saying.

It turns out it's a domestic attack. I only relayed what general speculation was since it had all the hallmarks of domestic terrorism.

And why are all right wing terrorists white? That's pretty racist.

The consensus on Tuesday (outside the whackadoodles) became that it seemed more like a lone wolf/unbalanced teen/amateur attack. I postulated yesterday or Wednesday that it did seem amateur, but that it also seemed a little more advanced than a teen(s) could do.

So your post makes no sense since it turns out to be two unbalanced, young, white adults who were "typical American" domestics. And I'm certainly not sure what Al Sharpton or George Stephanopolous have to do with anything. Since YOU brought them up (and I don't watch their shows… and never have), do you think people call them patriots?

One is an overtly religious man who is racist and a homophobe and espouses wonts for welfare for his social class. No I'm not talking about idiot boy. But doesn't that just scream left wing to you? If he's white and his social class is Wall Street, apparently not. If you want some real fun, watch Christopher Hitchens dismantle Sharpton in a 2007 debate. You can find it on Youtube.

George is just a corporate hack. Sure, Birchers will have you think he's a lefty-looney CFR conspirator. But they said worse of Eisenhower. So that makes sense.

        Not.

Oliver North should still be in jail.

        • When the Boston marathon blasts first happened, I remember thinking to myself this almost seems like the work of the Joker from the Batman movies.

The it comes out that one of the guys involved is named "Dzhokhar."   Wish we hadn't broken the bat signal last year…..

        • I should have been clear.

Ollie should still be in Leavenworth since he should have been tried in a general courts-martial and found guilty for a completely dishonorable and wholly un-American "I can't recall" ass who used the US Constitution he took an oath to uphold as toilet paper. That he and Poindexter so egregiously violated the UCMJ and got off on some murky technicality borne of some "policy" someone made up just for them is shameful at best. Those two clowns are/were disgraces to their uniforms, their services and their country.

        • Jackie, Jackie, Jackie, there was no "general speculation", only you and your baises.  You tried to put the blame on a "right wing attack."  Man up to your statement.

News Flash:  Lib plays race card.  Yea thats you Jack.

          • I played no race card. I only pointed out that a classification which has no race was suddenly made to have an exclusive race. I didn't bring it up at all.

That being said, I also pointed out the general classifications for terrorism and even acceded to the claim that there was yet another classification to be had, that being one of unstable/unbalanced minds. This looks to fit in that category.

          • NOw you say "Unstable/unbalanced minds" , "This looks to fit in that category".  But first thing on this site you said it was a Right Wing Attack.  You were wrong and now you're covering your ass, but not very well.

          • I'm not CMA. I relayed what credible news sources were saying they thought it looked like. It made sense on Monday. On Tuesday it started to look more like unstable/unbalanced lone wolf scenario, which is what I also relayed on that day… or Wednesday.

Guess what. People are wrong on speculation a lot. That's why through the course of a story it narrows to the truth. And most people go with the truth as it becomes available. Corporate news got it fairly right by not speculating much. Cable news was all over the map, and some followed the truth. But others tried to backfill their previously incorrect statements… and are still doing so. Blogs are even worse.

I'm not sure why you capitalize "right wing attack." It's just a classification. And i was talking about domestic right wing attacks. I can't think of any international terrorist attacks which aren't right wing attacks. And it's not like these classifications are mutually exclusive either. International terrorist attacks can be considered single issue, right wing and international. But this is already known. That's why they have a whole other classification for them.

You seem to be happy picking nits. So be it.

          • "Credible news sources" , sure you don't mean MSNBC?  Al Sharpton a religious guy, Jack?  Just like his menotr Rev Dr. Jackson.  Remember Rev Jackson, he was slick willies spiritual advisor during the cigar dipping days.  Sharpton's a shyster.  "Happy pickingt nits" – another speculation Jack?  Don't get your panites in a wad Jack.  Get back on your meds or mom will take your Thomas train away.

          • I didn't expect a serious answer. But you didn't have to make death a joke.

Come on man… or woman. pretend to be knowledgable in something remotely relevant.

            Here's what you just said:

I'm an ass? Here's how I'm going to prove I'm not an ass. Hold on. Excuse the shit that emits from me. Ugh! Anyway. I'm not an ass who makes up shit just because. I promise the words I say are true.

            Yay!!!!

You don't suck as a human!!!!

            You win!!!!!

          • And it would have been much more effective if you would have spelled panties correctly.

            Mine are comflororablalitying.

            Yum yum mister stupid!

          • Sorry Orange4ever.

I was assuming everything. And you know what assuming means. It means stupid people buy into fucking stupid maxims which make them ignore truth.

Sorry… should I have waited for you to respond to that too?

          • Now that I take a sober look at this post… you are certainly a jack-ass.

As if I needed to say anything so obvious.

You're so wrong that I might consider watching MSNBC for once in my life just because you seem to think it's antagonistic to your belief system.

But then that would be stupid too. What's the point of a detente of stupidity?

          • Gotta say that's not exactly going out on a limb to say people who would detonate a bomb in an attempt to harm as many people as possible fall under the category of "unstable/unbalanced minds". These people are fucking nuts.

          • I think that's why don't have a separate classification for that. I can't imagine anyone who commits these crimes being of sound mind except in some Hollywood "kidnap a family member and extort criminal actions" kind of way.

One could say the same for murderers. But how often do we hear about the insanity plea working? Hell, it doesn't even work for actually insane people most of the time.

      • OSU99 should post more often.

The "I hope it was a white American" comment that was stated by some liberal media sources is what really got me. Can you imagine if somebody like Rush Limbaugh said "I hope this attack was by a Muslim man, preferablily of Middle East decent, because it would help bring awareness to our need to better protect ourselves"? The outrage across the web/liberal news stations would be relentless.

        • Actually, Rush talked about precisely the same thing Sirota talked about in his article with the title you're quoting. I agree that the topic can be talked about. But I also agree that the editor should have flagged Sirota's title given the timing.

What both have said this past week is that different subsets of the population are treated differently.

Rush claims that when "Muslims" attack nobody anywhere blames A-Rabs or beats them in the streets or burns crosses in their yards or decides that they can't serve them as customers… all while waving the flag. And his proof this past week was that the corporate media was unwilling to make any speculations while credible news sources only pointed at the pipe-bomb kind of usual suspects.

Sirota claims that when Whitey does it, nobody anywhere blames whites or beats them in the streets or burns crosses in their yards or decides that they can't serve them as customers… all while waving the flag. And his proof is history.

I agree that Sirota's title (and probably even the timing of his sentiment) is in poor taste. But his context is correct. He should still do something Rush has never done and should do hourly… apologize.

What really sucks is that while Sirota is correct in context, he's also wrong. The person in custody for the bombing is a white American. But every stereotype pointing away from that reality will be employed.

          • This topic actually brought up a very good discussion on another forum. Sirota was clearly wrong in timing if not context. But even his context can be questioned. What if this was a black or hispanic American instead of a white one? Would sentiments still lean toward "lone wolf crazy" reports?

I contended that would be the case based on other terror attacks. There was the DC Sniper. That's really all I could come up with. But the media reacted the same way it would have in any other crazy criminal case. It didn't rise to the level of crazy that warranted extensive nutso coverage like Waco or the Freemen. And they weren't tied to "Muslim terrorists are going to rape our children and force them to have abortions before they marry someone of the same sex" kind of stupidity, even though Muhammad and Malvo had the same dumb religious tenets that any religion brings to the table… and they were more recently emigrated… in fact, neither was naturalized.

          • This also brings up another question asked and answered elsewhere.

Was the Beltway Sniper a terrorist? He was a Muslim. He killed 10 people. And he kept the nation's capital hostage for about three weeks.

His stated goal of "terrorizing the nation" came true.

Does that make him a terrorist?

  5. Last year someone posted some great practice reports. I drop in every now and then looking for a report but haven't seen any.

Who ever that was, if you're still around, just thought I'd let you know that there's at least one person out here who really appreciated your reports and I'm hoping you'll continue sharing them with us.

    • You are probably refering to Silverstream, I also miss his reports.
Have to add that it was good to see Bob’s report above, but I’d sure like confirmation that Boom has discarded the flippers! Seems too much to hope for.

  6. I love those black uniforms. I really like the black matte helmet with no logos. Looks very clean. Even the new logo is growing on me.

    • Ditch the white stripes on the black helmet and I might agree with you.  But, as osbeavs said above, the contrasting sleeves on all color combos are a distracting waste!

  7. I had read that the bomber kids Dad is in Russia.  Are they foreign exchange students or something else?   I also don't understand "right wing nut".  We only have two choices, totalitarianism and anarchy.  I would contend that someone of this nature is on the side of an anarchist.

Also does anyone have any info about the spring game?  Riley said he thought they could have a game this year ( instead of a glorified  scrimmage ).  The papers are just calling it a scrimmage.  It says it will be 72 on that Friday.

    • 1. The Dad, Anzor Tsarnaev, lives in Makhachkala, Russia.

      2. According to the Urban Dictionary, a Right Wing Nut is:

"Someone in the blogosphere who is identified as being politically on the right. Usually a fucktard."

      3. An Email I received from OSU today calls it a "Spring Game"

Here's the link with details.  It's a full day of events involving other sports on campus in addition to football.  See the hyperlink below for more info:

      Action packed Spring Showcase

      • I heard that Riley really wanted to do a controlled scrimage but the P12 wanted more of a game type situation because it was going to be on the P12 Network.  We'll see who won out.

    • They are muslims from Chechnya, and a question comes to mind — why were they given political asylum?     According to the media, a country unnamed contacted the US and asked that the older brother be investigated.    The FBI did, and found nothing suspicious.    The young become idealistic easily and easily adopt causes.    It will be interesting to hear the intent of their actions.    The last one just taken into custody.

    • They are two white boys from Boston. They are not from Chechnya just like you're not from (your ethnic heritage here) _____.

We own 'em. But maybe we can pass them off like we did Oswald.

Thank goodness there are no conspiracies tied to him.

      • Jack, I know you are an expert in all things, so I have a quick question for you.  If you are a legal resident of the USA (Green Card holder),  not a citizen of the USA, does that not mean you are still a citizen of your original country?  I ask this because my wife was a legal resident, yet she was still considered Japanese (legally and in all other ways).

I didn't know the dead guy had become a citizen of the USA.

        • The dead one was not a citizen. He was about a year away from naturilaztion. The living one is a citizen.

If we're taking apples for apples, you bring up your wife's situation because she was born in Korea, spent half her life in Taiwan, then moved to the US and became a full time legal resident who has lived here since… all while carrying a Taiwanese passport.

I'm pretty sure you didn't mean to do that.

  8. Plutko pitched 7 innings of shutout ball, allowed 3 hits, 3 BB, 8 SO.  Bruins had a guy on 3b with nobody out, loaded the bases with one out and didn't score.  They did put a run across in the 5th.  Sherfy comes on in the 9th with two on and one out (yes, I'm bored).  Sherfy strands the runners with a FC and soft liner to 2b.  Berg on for the bruins to face the 2, 3 & 4 hitters.  Healy with a leadoff single.  Sac bunt.  Heineman Ks.  Groundout and the Bruins take game one, 1-0.

    • With Oregon's upcoming schedule compared with OSU's, the Beavers got a chance to really separate themselves from everyone else atop the conference. Got 12 games remaining against UW, USC, CAL and Wazzu with 3 of the 4 at home. Real opportunity to feast on the bottom of the conference and I expect them to do exactly that.

  9. Lots of double headers today as 4 games involving the top 6 teams were rained out yesterday.  Vandy drops the first game to Georgia, UNC continues to roll taking game 1 from Duke and #8 Virginia takes game 1 from #5 Florida State.

  10. Man, had a chance to solidify the top spot and haven't showed up.  Though the huskies haven't hit the ball hard but the Beavs haven't made the plays they need to.

    • Exactly, so disappointing.  Parker is down, as usual when things go bad, can't really blame him.  If things don't turn around in the second game from the get go then this day could be one talked about when it comes to post season.

  11. Washingto hasn't won a series all year and have been swept by the ducks and ucla and lost to Seattle last Tuesday, 10-4.  This is a terrible loss.

  12. Beavs with runners at 2nd & 3rd with nobody out and don't score. 9-2 DP with Conforto thrown out at the plate. Keyes ends the inning with a soft liner

  13. Wouldn't you know it, the Beavs blow a golden chance and Moore comes back with a BB & HBP to put the tying runs aboard. Yeskie goes to Jackson.

  14. Huskies run themselves out of a big inning as in the sac fly they get the run but the runner at 1b is thrown out by Barnes at 2b

  15. Brocker comes on with the Beavs down 5-3, runners on 2 and 3 and no outs in the b8, lets hope Brocker doesn't throw his characteristic hard to handle stuff.
Crap, even one of his first warmups is too much for JRod to handle.

  16. This is what happens when your pitching carries you with decent run support (most of the year) and then the pitching doesn't carry you with almost no run support. (now)

    • This is what happens when you overlook an opponent thinking they aren't able to play at your level.

Really sad to be reduced to hoping the Bruins 1 run lead over the ucks in the fifth will hold up.

      • I don't know these guys seemed really pumped up to head North, a couple of guys this is a homecoming with a lot of family attending.  Maybe it has more to do with the travel, then the rain out, and getting out of their routines.  Disappointing regardless.

  17. Casper can't handle a foul out, Reser WP's another run in……..what the heck did this team do last night after they found out the game was a rainout?

Now a throwing error on Keyes for run number 9.   Vinny always called these type games "laughers", not a bit funny but there are three outs to go and tomorrow.

  18. Offense didn't do its job in either game today and haven't looked good in quite some time and the team imploded in the 8th defensively and on the mound. Brutal series loss.

  19. Bruins still up 1-0 going to the ninth in Eugene.  Radio link:  http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/ucla.portal#

If you complain about Mike Parker you may want to listen to the Bruin broadcaster for a point of reference.  After a little of this guy Parker doesn't seem as bad as some here have felt.

I hate having to pull for an uck loss but that's where we are thanks to the poor performance by the Beavs today. Meaning, I’d rather be able to ignore the feathered f*&%rs until they face the Beavs.

  20. A small consolation for a very bad day. It just isn't a neat deal to have a bad day when you're playing two. The good thing is that the pen should be well rested since they only threw bating practice today.

  21. Oregon State should be able to get off to a quick campaign again in 2013. If they can beat Utah on the road in week 3, they have winnable games to stay at the head of the Pac-12 during the 2nd half of the season.  These include against Stanford, USC and Washington at home.  Whether the receiving corps find enough new reliable and vocal leaders and if Riley and Langsdorf break their costly tendancy to abandon the run in 4th quarters could be difference makers.  Defensively, can Banker and Perry teach good enough technique to limit opposing team scoring under 21 points in most games?  Will Mannion get enough protection and avoid sacks when it matters most?  OSU can finally break through to a BSC or Rose Bowl only if they find these answers.

    Oregon State 2013 Football Preview:

    http://beaverbyte.com

    • Same as yesterday.  Parker mentioned in pregame that the facilities have been "temporary" for several years, with a plastic covering for the pressbox.  With the lights on and some wind yesterday it was a flashing lightshow (which turned out to be more entertaining than the games!).

    • Video feed from Eugene was slightly better. Looks like a really nice facility. We

blew a golden opportunity to take a nice lead in the conference.

  22. As beavergopher said above, Beavs blew a golden opportunity to take a nice lead in conference.  Another great opportunity coming next weekend as the Beavs face the condoms and the ucks go against Stanford. UCLA is at Wash St.

    • Posted this earlier but don't in my main man Jack got to see it.

IRT your post saying the Boston boys were just a couple of white guys from
Boston. I know you are an expert in all things, so I have a quick question for you.

Thought he was a Russian living in Boston claiming to be of Chechnya ethnicity, though he actually came from another region in Russia.

Check your reliable news sources a little closer on this one my boy.  Mom wants to be proud of you.

    • I'd like to know what little I've said.

Seriously, I know this is mostly sports. So I think it's fair to know that what's discussed is just flying over and through most heads. Laudable discussions involve point and counterpoint steeped in fact. Lazy idiocy involves personal attacks.

    • Yeah, imagine how that would hurt the feelings of the terrorists around the world.  Heck, they might get upset enough to try to kill some Americans!

        • duh

Simply put…Muslim connection.  Enough for some NOT ALL Muslims.  Same as a (supposed) video led to Benghazi, or so we've been told.

Sure glad we see so many "mainstream" Muslims speaking out about those who "pervert" their religion…………….not!

          • Oh yeah… I still remember the outrage over John Allen Muhammad's execution. And he wasn't even an American.

And if only someone in the Muslim community declared outrage over this and called these two guys "losers" and said that they "bring shame to Islam." Maybe that would say something. Maybe a relative of theirs would do it. But apparently no such luck.

Since I've been given endless circular links from the whackadoodles, I'll share my favorite conspiracy. Apparently that darkie Obammie, in his true Islamo-fascist way, ordered the Navy Seals to do this bombing with the help of the FBI and at the behest of the Saudi royal family. And these two are just patsies.

My second favorite is the doltish Glenn Beck trying to actually link this to the Sauds. He says a US Congressman has "documents" that prove the Saudi kid who was injured was to be deported, then they (someone) apparently changed those documents to not deport him. The Congressman says he's following the lead of "persistent media rumors" to this effect, but has no documents. The "media" he speaks of links one big circle of stupid to each other… and nowhere else. Even Faux News pulled that story in a hurry. Surprise! There were never any documents or even talk of deporting this kid, who is apparently "a very very very bad man."

I wish I could get paid to be a complete idiot like these people. Although, I don't know if I could live with myself for knowingly lying to people and taking their money for my efforts.

As this dies down, I can't wait for the "a missile blew up the West Fertilizer plant" conspiracies to start rolling in.

            So predictable and sad.
