In a sense we’ll see early on whether Tinkle can recruit, as he now has to resell himself and Oregon State to the 3 incoming recruits. The good news is that today Chai Baker said he will be a Beaver. Manderson and Oliver silent so far. Both had a lot of options. If they de-commit, it probably would signal they were more into Craig Robinson than OSU because both are great fits for WT’s offense.
But stopping the bleeding and keeping all these guys is test #1, and we’ll see how Tinkle does. So far, so good.
1st.
The more I read and watch about Tinkle the more I like him. Especially the fact that everyone says his teams are hardworking and defensive minded, two things I always thought were painfully absent on CRs teams. I also love that he uses his big men as a major part of his game plan. Being able to convince Manderson to keep his commitment would be a huge first win for Tinkle.
Yes. I’ve always liked him and thought he was a safe, solid hire, but I am thinking he could be more than that and actually turn things around. Thing is, any time there is a change like this a fan will get optimistic and look at all the reasons something can work out. It’s hard to say how Montana translates to Oregon State. That’s the big question mark. He’ll probably do all the same things at OSU, but will they work…
Wonder who he will get as assistants? That is key to success as well.

Baker and Manderson would be the need to get. Oliver would be nice and Payton II would be fine to help out the guard depth. They’ll need a point guard next year who can break the press. I don’t believe Duvivier could break the press all on his own.

This is THE PAC-12 mother f’er, and there’s WAY too many scum bag coaches out there poaching kids and steering kids away from OSU as early as elementary school. The deck is heavily stacked against Tinkler, but maybe he can actually show realistically talented kids our god damn indoor facility. I swear BDC is still butt hurt over how the whole funding fiasco went down with that and is keeping it out of the headlines as much as possible because of it.
He should also start sending recruits the link for the crank chain saw you tube video to show a bit of our tradition to kids for once. Because if THAT won’t work, _______

He knows how to appeal to his new collegiate fan base. The quad is right next to the library and I remember many loooong days and nights at that library armed with energy drinks. If I was still a student at OSU I would be there in a heart beat to meet the new coach and score some free Amp energy drinks (those things are like $2.00+ per can!).
As a recent alum, I can remember a number of events like this. I bet you can easily give away a thousand cans in an hour.

Wayne Tinkle is an example of good genetics and Bob DeCarolis isnt. Jesus Christ, did you see those 2 standing next to each other? Its like Arnold Schwartzenegar and Danny Devito in Twins. (hopefully some of you have seen it to know what I mean)
Tinkle won the press conference in my opinion. Did a good job of mentioning OSU’s past, and had a clear vision of what he expects from his team. He has a good idea of what system he wants to put in place and has high expectations of his players, but he also wants to give them the freedom to run their offense as long as they buy into the defense side. I like that he stresses inside out basketball, rather than the perimeter ball and rat ball we often saw with CR. Lets hope he’s as convincing with players as he is with fans.
Also, I’ll lay off the piss jokes now, for fear that Tinkle might find out and kick my ass. That is one big, sexy man, and I wouldnt want to piss him off.
I like it so far….. figure WT sees this as a step up the career ladder, and at least will work hard to get success.
