      • I understand…made a living for several years gambling after my business degree at OSU…money flow resulting in moving points means more cash in on the Beavers.

This game is truly for degens, or those with inside info. by the way, the over under for Bolden receptions in the CW was 8—I about jumped out of my chair wanting to make an under wager. Then I realized it was my wife’s birthday, and I shouldn’t focus on prop bets.

  1. The 9 pm game on a school night is unreasonable. Any more of those on the schedule or do we have to wait for a Pac-12 tba? The value of TV exposure for this game is zilch. What would happen if (and I’m laughing as I type this) the AD said to Larry Scott – nope we aren’t going to play at 9 pm on a school night – screw the TV, we want our fans there and we are going to start the game at 7.

      • Sadly true. lol – OSU could pro-rate the TV money for individual games and deduct from the package? The TV cameras show nobody in attendance – that isn’t good for OSU or the Pac-12.

  2. If the pre-game release is right, MVSU doesn’t start a guy above 6’4. Geez louise. I’ll be disappointed if the game is less than a 20 point win.

    • I don’t claim to know much about them but they are not good. They’re 1-6 and were blown out in almost all of those 6 losses. They won their last game 66-63 over North Carolina A&T. North Texas beat them by 15 and that powerhouse Texas A&M Corpus Christi also beat them. I agree this should be an easy win. This one, Grambling and Quinnipac should be wins. But ya never know.

      • Thanks for the plug. It’s gonna be hard to keep pumping out stuff and a lot of it may not be funny but I’ll be sure to use it as a place to show dissenting views.

      • I think I’m winning over the “names” because I’m not overly negative about Riley. I’m trying to paint him as a loveable idiot. I’m thinking that will be the way to win more people over..comedy rather than criticism and showing my fan side by being hopelessly optimistic like Riley.

          • That’s what makes it kind of hilarious. At times I’m even going to direct readers to this site and try in Riley terms to disagree.

  3. Think I just spotted Jason Robards sitting in the front row behind coach Tinkle. If it’s not past his bedtime, for shame on beaver nation for Gill being empty tonight!

  4. I’m a little worried that Payton is becoming such a strong player/leader that the team is now bogging down when he’s not in the game. I would have liked to see Halice Cooke stay….he and Payton would have made a pretty decent backcourt.

  5. Does anyone have that highlight of GPII pinning the guy on the board after the foul that Robbins drew? I was like :O, that guy is a highlight machine. He’s like a mini Eric Moreland without the general boneheadedness. He’s good for at least 2-3 dunks a game, a spectacular block, and a ton of boards.

Also, it was funny when GPII paused and looked up at the video board after his putback and Gomis with the smile after his block of the corner three. I just wish Valley wasn’t such poop and it wasn’t such a late tip because more people should see this at Gill.

  6. big one coming up Saturday afternoon. #9 Gonzaga goes into McKale to take on #3 Arizona. We will find out just how good both teams are. Arizona just has not impressed me so far and they’re supposed to be head and shoulders better than the other 11 teams in the conference. I know, it’s still early.

  7. A great win and hopefully a good confidence booster for the Beavs but we gotta keep in perspective it was Mississippi Valley State who now has a record of 1-7

Mississippi State, who we play on the 13th, beat them by 20. That should be a good game.

Of course we have to play Portland on Sat. first.

The team is doing much better that I expected and I agree with others that we finally have a coach!

    Go Beavs

  8. There is no way this is true, right?

Can we verify that this isn’t some kind of hoax? It HAS to be… no one could be that stupid, even Nebraskans….

  9. I’m glad he got to leave on his own terms. Getting fired would have been a cruel end for such a great person.

In the end, I think he knew if he kept going here, it wasn’t going to get better quickly and didn’t want to leave OSU holding the bag. True to form, he helped by leaving.

  10. Mike Riley was happy where he was at and was gonna stay at OSU the rest of his career. He was gonna be the Joe Pa of Corvallis LOL. Beautiful. With better talent, the Mike Riley narrative will be exposed. People will realize as an in-game coach he just isn’t very good. If you fire a guy for winning 9 games every year, you should probably not hire a guy who had losing 3 of the last 5 seasons. Have fun, Nebraska! Later Mike

Oregon State #Beavers commits say assistant coaches are contacting them and telling them they had no idea Mike Riley was leaving.

  12. Aaron J. Fentress ?@AaronJFentress 23m23 minutes ago
Some of you don’t get it: Mike Riley is very well respected as a coach outside of the pocket of fans who don’t understand football.

Yeah you stupid fans. You just don’t understand football.

    • Fentress has always been condescending and he’s the one who knows zero. Media always tries to tell Beavers fans that Corvallis is a horrible town and Beavers fans that we should just accept losing repeatedly. When OSU fans won’t accept that answer we “Don’t understand football” comes out cause they know their narratives are bullshit. What a clown.

  13. The Nebraska AD just realized he misunderstood the booster when they said to hire “the guy from Oregon”

He’s asking for a redo and says he meant to call Scott Frost.

  14. I feel like my significant other of 10+ years, who I couldn’t commit to and was pulling away from the last couple years just dumped me for someone WAY out their league. I think I’m jealous… This is so weird!

  15. Wonder if Angry is out shooting clay right now. I’m jealous that he gets to come back to this news. Now, can Bobby D find the football equivalent of WT? They said nobody would want to coach our basketball program. they were wrong.

  16. Yes Yes Yes!!!

Win win for all parties.. Riley should do Ok in Braska the Big 10 is weak and he should be able to get better recruits now…

For all the talk about BDC his last few hires have been solid.. Hopefully he can keep it rolling!!

  17. Here’s a list of candidates that I think BDC should consider – I really think that only former HC should be considered.

Will Muschamp – While he struggled at Florida, the PAC12 might be an easier road. Strong defensive background. good recruiter.

Greg Schiano – Former Rutgers coach. Built the school up into decent contenders. Flamed out in the NFL. kind of a jerk though.

Brady Hoke – Former Michigan coach. Has ties to OSU.

Bronco Mendenhall – BYU coach, former player. Might be unhappy at BYU.

Mike Gundy – Known to be unhappy at Ok St.

But if any assistants could be considered, I’d list these guys

Tom Herman – Ohio State’s OC. Good recruiter.
    Pat Narduzzi – MSU’s d coordinator.

  18. Just when you thought you’d heard it all from Schnell, there’s this Twitter gem:

@LindsayRaeSI: Will be fascinating to see who Oregon State hires. They’re not loaded with money. Any chance Langs comes back?

  19. At least one Oregonlive writer who doesn’t bury his head in the sand.

Mike Tokito ?@mtokito 46s46 seconds ago
Personally, I don’t think it’s going to be as hard for OSU to hire a quality coach as it used to be. Pac-12 job very attractive. We see, tho

  20. Mike Riley essentially got a promotion to a better coaching gig. After the run of sub-par seasons since the end of 2009. My mind is absolutely blown

  21. If WSU was able to attract a guy like Leach, then I don’t think anyone is going to view the job as a blackhole. I do think the next person won’t be a lifer. They’ll try to do well here and move on up.

  22. I really hope Frost rumors aren’t true. IMO: No matter who we get we need to differentiate from the Holes, not Mimic.

Other school boards are floating both Hoke or Mendenhall.

    • My personal selection would be Will Muschamp. A lot less pressure than Florida. He’s young, a great recruiter and a great defensive coordinator. He’d have to get a strong offensive staff to really make things work.

Might be tough to lure him out west. I don’t think he’ll be considered for any SEC HC jobs for a bit.

    • I think he will. I think he’s out in 5 years or less. He’ll do less with more and the boosters won’t tolerate it.

This will compensate for the Pellini-jerk image they had going.

God this is so great. Mike Riley has the chance to show us we’re wrong (I don’t think he will) and OSU FINALLY GETS A NEW HEAD COACH!

Wonder if any of the 4* recruits will follow him?

  23. Didn’t Bobby D stiff Riley and staff on their bowl bonus from last year and I know there were frustrations about the budgets for assistant coaches which by Pac-12 standards at least were really low. Just saying the bean counter might have caused part of this. Can he make a good hire- no faith in that.

    • Cornholed. Sorry, too happy to type.

BDC seems to have done well with Tinkle, hopefully he can do it now.

I don’t know enough about Wells, but am curious about his ability to win while the team has injury problems.

And I think the fact that this is a step up and he could still have a presence in Utah, could make this an attractive opportunity for him.

  24. Riley will be able to recruit better athletes, they have a great program tradition and fanbase…. HOWEVER, with his inability to think on his feet and stratergerize will doom him. I think he’s fired after 3 years, possibly 2…

    • I’m laughing at the thought of Tommy Armstrong and the left over QB’s at Neb. trying to run MR’s offense. This is going to be good!

  25. How does the “It’s all about loyalty here” sound now?

McMarryion, Nall, Brown, Haskins, Villamin, Jarmon, Strong….young ballhawking CBs….AND A NEW COACH!

If BDC doesn’t fuck this up this is going to be very interesting.

  26. Radio in Nebraska is hoping for a downhill running style from Riley. They don’t like how he’s reported to abandon the run… Oh, they are in for a surprise.

  27. This is completely unexpected and fantastic news for OSU. The timing — coming in early December — is excellent. This should give OSU an opportunity to make a great hire. Truly manna from heaven….

Meanwhile, the way MR has handled this only raises more concerns about MR and his credibility. It appears MR blindsided just about everyone — including his assistant coaches. His stated rationale for going to Nebraska (“this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to coach at one of the nation’s most storied football programs”) ignores the fact that he turned down USC — arguably a more storied program — only a few years ago. It also is contrary to numerous statements by MR — including statements made in the last week or two — that he would be staying at OSU for many years to turn things around. MR comes off — at least in my eyes — as a guy who says one thing and does another. After this, I would find it increasingly hard to believe anything he says.

Good luck, Nebraska. You are going to need it….
