I expect a win tonight. The team got a gut check on Saturday. Now they know what it’s going to take to win in conference play. Solid D at home should lead to a win.
I am expecting a win tonight as well. ASU is dead last in the conference in turnovers (they turn the ball over a ton). I expect that to be the difference with the beavers defense. But, that’s why they play the games. I don’t think anyone saw Wazzu beating Cal in Berkeley last weekend.
Yeah….if we can play the frenetic defense we usually do at home it is really possible. We need to get a conference win, to hope for a few by season’s end. GO BEAVS!
they’re mediocre at best. Some tough losses to Alabama, Maryland ans aTm but they also lost to Lehigh. However, they did blow out that same UNLV team that beat Arizona. Go figure. Like the beavs they lost most of their scoring from last year. They are relying mostly on JC transfers
Beavs win 55-47. Congrats to Coach Tinkle on his first Pac-12 win. It was ugly but I’d rather win ugly than what we saw prior to this year. Hope Olaf’s ok. We’re gonna need him. Especially Sunday against the Cats. Yikes
2 OT now. And Mike Parker just reported on the post game show that UCLA beat Stanford in Overtime. LMFAO! I’m sure someone handed him that incorrect score and not his fault though
ASU finishes the game with 16 turnovers. Right at their average.

I know. Even the sun shines on a dogs ass some days. 2nd Chance points by the beavs and made FT’s were the difference though. ASU went 9/16 from the line. Beavs also held them to 4/21 on 3 pt fg’s and 39.5% overall. Good D
Good crowd tonight. It was good to see the students out in force, they made a big difference. A few of members of the football team were there as well and I noticed Isaac walking around without a limp and without a boot. Real good to see that. Good win.
Those expensive empty seats behind the benches don’t look good on tv. Where are those people, and why not give your ticket to someone else if you can’t go to the game?
Wait… there’s free pie to be had somewhere if I can add 20 years?
Although, I got carded when trying to buy milk the other day. I’m gonna need Brian Brown/FX-type make-up for this. I’m thinking the cost of the effect might outweigh the value of the free pie. I need to do some more thinking on this.
That’s a really good idea but I don’t know how it would work logistically. Now that I think about it most of the people who were there were in the second deck and up and probably don’t get much TV time. There are a lot of empty seats behind the benches because those cost big bucks. I don’t know who those people are, or where they are at.
It’s a shame the perception is so bad on TV, because in person it was pretty good. All things are relative though, and in comparison to our glory years it would have been pathetic attendance.
That happens all the time at other arenas. Heck, last night I went to the Portland Pilots/Santa Clara game. Crowd was pretty sparse since they’re still on winter break. My tickets were in the cheap seats in the end zone. As the game started, the mascot and cheerleaders came up to our section and told everybody to move down into the sideline seats. They get it. Need to at least give the appearance of a full arena for the tv cameras.
Also happened the last time I saw a game at Mac Court. Portland State vs Oregon, and they took a couple of the upper level sections and told the fans to move down and fill in the lower levels.
@Bob. I was not trying to be a smart ass. It did look bad on TV and it has for many years.
I happened to be a student at time of the absolute apex of the program, so this has been a long nightmare for me. Thanks for supporting the program. I hope get out there some year and go to a game again at Gill. My fondest memories from school happened in that building. It looks like we finally have a coach in Tinkle. Go Beavs!
Beavergopher – We must have been at OSU at the same time because some of best college memories are from a packed Gill with Ralph Miller on the sideline. OSU class of 1978/2nd Lt. USMC. Semper Fi
The problem is that anyone who buys football season tickets and pays the seat-donation tax gets the seat-donation tax waived at Gill. So dropping a couple extra hundred bucks on season tickets for hoops is nothing for those people. And they are not serious hoop fans. They are serious OSU fans. But their preference of sport and the product that has been put on the floor for a couple decades leads to non-participation from those fans.
The structure is fine for now. Just like football and the idea that we or anyone will only invest in something we feel has future value (yeah… Mark Banker… you guys had negative future value apparently), hoops needs to prove something before we can make that exclusive from football donation-taxes.
You all know me. I would rather be Duke and have a great hoops team and buy my season tickets for the 17 or 18 events that I can attend… indoors… warm… dry… with a group of people I know and enjoy. Football is a six or seven event thing with tailgating. And it’s damn expensive in terms of both time and money. More power to those who like that. I’m gonna go with hoops.
And I think baseball can have its own segment as well. It should if it doesn’t already.
Make attendance to the Olympic sports a free pass for all the people who are segmented by these three sports. There are many good and great athletes playing other sports who deserve attention. It’s more important to have people in the stands cheering for them than it is to gain revenue. And events should be scheduled to coincide when the big three are in town for the primary event. I know that happens with travel schedules and lesser sports during football season. But there needs to be more of such.
Is GP a college graduate? During one of the questions he had for GP2 he said, “I have to aks (sic) you… “. Do you suppose Fox should send him to grammar school?
It was appropriate in the context, I felt. Sometimes white people struggle with the notion of varying communication in different cultural contexts. Plus, it was more of a father to son interaction than tv commentator to player interaction. Plus, no one tells GP how to talk!
Hey, all you Bend area guys, do you receive the Beavs Radio Network clearly? I spend some time around Redmond and the am reception there is terrible at night. 940am goes dim in the evening, let me down on so many FB and Baseball games.
I once found an FM station, out of Prineville, I think.
Ideas?
I lived off Portland Ave on Awbrey Rd in the early 80’s. I lived there when John Lennon was assassinated. When I first came to Central Oregon I moved a lot! Lived in 7 or 8 places in 4 years, then bought my house in ’83. Been there ever since.
Radio reception for Beaver games really sucks unless you live east of Tumalo. Their power is really low and gets lower at dark (game time usually).
On a good day, with the antenna hooked up, I can pick up KEX from Portland….sorta.
There used to be a station in Prineville that broadcast games don’t know if they do any longer.
I’m not any fan of the Arizona program, but it was good to see them blow out the Ducks tonight. I didn’t want to see a Duck upset with the Altman bullshit going down.
I didn’t expect the ducks to win tonight. Honestly I think we’ll get blown out Sunday night. Only two teams I don’t think the beavs have the horses for are Zona and Utah. Everyone else is beatable imo. I imagine they’ll be in most games at Gill. On the road, not so much
I tend to agree with what you say, but can’t help but think that the night they beat DePaul, the way they played both defense and offense, they would have beaten anyone!
I think the Zona coach is on PEDs. I wish we could test him. I bet hes taking stuff for concentration, intensity, alertness, etc. When coaches are getting paid millions, you can bet some are using PEDs to up their gameday ability.
You know I never thought about that before, but you bring up an excellent theory. I wonder how many coaches are using Adderall? Or, something like that. I mean these guys work really long hours, attention to detail is so necessary. Plus, they have disposable income. The more that I think about this the more I think that they must be on PED’s. Great theory.
Sunday’s game is Arizona’s to lose. The Beavs will have to keep the game low scoring. Somewhere in the 50s or 60s should give them a chance. Arizona has size and athleticism at nearly every position.
To win, they’ll have to keep their mistakes to a minimum and capitalize on every Arizona error.
Watching the last 10 minutes of the second half last night was not pretty. I think we need to be really patient with this team. They have gotten some success, but we can’t forget that this is the same team that had only 10% of its production coming back and depth is very very thin. The real challenge for this program is not to hit the wall in February and completely collapse down the stretch.
Last night the ASU defense just sagged in the key and extended out on shooters. They made it difficult to penetrate. However, OSU contributed to that because they were not attacking early in the shot clock, which probably is by design to slow the game down. So, if you are going to do that you have to be really efficient on the offensive end. They did that last night by getting to the line and making free throws.
Defensively, they look so much better than last year. Goomis is starting to roam the paint daring anybody to in there so he can swat it. I think teams will start taking it at him to get him in foul trouble. But the defense rotates better and is constantly active, and when you have guys like GP2 who can hit the boards that has helped alot. They should be in a lot of games, because of that defense.
I think Arizona is going to rout them on Sunday. It is just too much to ask this team in its development right now to keep that game close, let alone think about winning it. But the rest of the conference teams are more reasonable.
We need to have the same intensity on D and the boards that we did last night. On top of that we need to take more than eight and make more than three treys. And we have to at least throw it in the post sometimes. Inside out can work without an effective post scorer. But it has to go inside during your possessions.
If we can deny post entry, I’ll be amazed. Expect to see some depth come off the bench if only to push some blocks and give some fouls. Sometimes strategic fouls can kill the opposition’s momentum as well as anything else. Discreetly put their worst FT shooter on the line instead of letting him set the blocks, and a possession can be reduced to one or zero points, subconsciously deflating momentum. Imagine if every time down the floor Daniel or Cheikh were to be put on the line instead of us being allowed to shoot the ball.
I can’t believe I went from watching 0 games for 1.5 years (no exaggeration) to looking forward to watching games. With “worse players”, too. Just shows how important coaching and attitude/confidence are. I’m really glad OSU has defensive minded coaches in all sports right now. Defense is harder to play than offense, and that difficulty instills toughness. Offensive teams = finesse teams, almost always.
Ditto. Until this season, I would go to 2 or 3 games a year, and maybe two football games.
Because of the low price I thought, “what the heck, cheap entertainment”. Then the recruiting class for next year, then the walk on recruitment. [My youngest son (goes to WOU) knows one of the walk ons from high school (my son was one of the student managers), so we went to that exhibition and the 2 got caught up on the past couple years before the game].
From that incredibly terrible performance to today’s awesome defensive team is an amazing turn-around. I agree that we need to keep in perspective that we are thin, essentially with 7 players (I don’t include Cheikh as he is still being developed).
Coaching, coaching, coaching! I wonder what Tinkle could have done with some of CR’s players from past teams…imagine Collier, Brandt and Moreland playing this defense!
Point here, I guess, is that I am so happy that I bought season tickets! as an added benefit, you guys get see me at every home game because of seat & camera locations. How awesome is that for you?
If your seats are good for getting on tv, then you need to take advantage of that. I expect to see some great signs going forward, etc. Ask for ideas if you need help. Be proactive
Hey, you’ve got plenty of games still, so many good options. But take advantage of those seats, don’t go to a game with out a great sign. Seriously, check in here for ideas a day or two ahead if needed.
I’ve already talked to them (management and/or security) about signs. I was told the biggest they will allow is 8-1/2″ x 11″. If they find someone with a larger size sign they will confiscate the sign and/or remove the person from the building. Sheesh!
I’ve been watching and so far have seen no one removed. But haven’t seen any large signs either.
Push the size a little more everytime. Start at like 17×22. They wont do anything. If they say something, play dumb. Or else you could always just be like this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF2De8dNE_A
I think Brandt would have been the most open to Waynes’s coaching. I’m not sure about the other two, I know we don’t like O-Live, but in one of the articles there was a reference to “negative attitudes” last year, of course no specifics.
Rolled ankle… suckers hurt more than a full on sprain. He’ll need to be taped, and he’ll likely be about 85%. It’s the good foot as far as which side of the zone he plays on since the push-off is better than the landing foot for lateral D. But I still don’t expect him to be as good as he was against ASU with forcing the ball to the baseline.
Haven’t seen much of anything, but he did send this last night, so sounds like he’s planning to play Sunday. The extra day off will be nice “#icewillbemybestfriend”

First Pac-12 win of the Wayne Tinkle era! Let’s get ready for a big one on Sunday! #FillGill #GoBeavs #icewillbemybestfriend
Anyone else notice an attitude adjustment? I don’t seem to be hearing much that OSU fans need to be humble, know their place, hard to recruit to Corvallis, the airport nonsense. Not just because of Andersen’s hiring although that’s a big part of it. Dunno if ab deserves all the credit for first shouting back but surely some of it.
Sorry about all the dots…it was the only way to get things to line up correctly (the software here doesn’t recognize spaces at the beginning of a line, evidently).
Uhhh but you have to explain to this dummy why you have ER in parens.
——————-
angery
A sarcastic, condescending, or taunting use of the word angry used on someone who is angry over something trivial or insignificant. Typically used in jest in some sort of explosive statement.
——————–
Angry over something that’s trivial or insignificant???
Lets break it down Barney style: See, the site is angrybeavs – not angry beavers. No R in Beavs and cant spell angry without the R. See he wants to say both Thanks Beavers and also credit AngryBeavs. So going both vertical and horizontal he gets both messages across. So to say angry he needs an available R and gets it from the parenthetical ER. And this way it says thanks beavers & thanks angry Beavs. Now lets all dance around.
Way to go Ladies!! Put the Civil War W in the good column in front of the 3rd largest crowd of 7,652 to see a women’s hoops game… Beavers win 70 – 37!! Great Job Ladies and Scott Rueck.
Just occurred to me, WBB 8th straight CW victory. Banker always called the Ducks “Basketball on grass.” Maybe OSU should have been fielding Rueck and WBB against UO football…
Refreshing remarks from the coordinators; build an offense and “go beat that team down there” and building the dam defense. Contrast with Riley “Its great to be part of the civil war tradition,” which it is, but that’s also struck me as “I’m just happy to be here.”
Anyone know if these coordinators are up in the press box or on the sideline?
Andersen said (again) the offense is Baldwin’s and the Defense Sitake’s. That concerns me a bit given Sitake’s history, and I hope Andersen is active in complimenting and correcting Sitake’s defense.
Andersen says they don’t have to “sell” recruits on OSU, Corvallis, but they seem more enthused about Corvallis and OSU than homeboy Mike Riley did in recruiting these past several years and that’s going to have a huge and positive impact, not only in recruiting but in changing the previous negative narrative.
And the RB coach from Miami, as mentioned here previously by others, is going to be great in recruiting, what a hire there. Can’t wait to see his results with Woods, Brown, Haskins, Nall(?) and future recruits.
For all the “family” talk which surrounded MR, I don’t remember him mentioning his concern for, and care of, the families of his staff members the way Andersen has in just a few weeks.
Andersen strikes me as an enthused and principled CEO who knows how to delegate, I’m looking forward to see the results on the field.
This hoops team kind of reminds me of the 1998-99 team, they weren’t expected to do much, but they had a “do all” leader at guard in Deaundra Tanner also. They finished 13-14 and upset Arizona. I thought Eddie Payne had turned the corner, but that turned out to be false hope. This team is already at 10 wins, maybe they get to 15 with the best coach since Ralph.
Malcolm Marable posted an interesting tweet last night: “It’s only been a week and everything about Oregon State football program is way better. I’m excited for my boys!” I wonder whether Marable might be willing to say more, if someone asked nicely. :)
Stephen Bailey (@Stephen_Bailey1) tweeted at 11:39 AM on Sun, Jan 11, 2015:

Go Beavs!
I expect a win tonight. The team got a gut check on Saturday. Now they know what it’s going to take to win in conference play. Solid D at home should lead to a win.
I tried posting the link yesterday. Sounds like Oregon and those scumbags at U of O are finally getting sued over the rape thing.
Same attorney as the FSU gal. Try recruiting with an active sexual assault law suit pending!!
Altman is toast!!!
You are likely correct on this one.

Maybe he’ll resign and go be the coach at NU… but not Arkansas.

22-16 beavs
So good to see Tinkle up and energized, coaching on the sideline like Gregg Marshall instead of sitting there like a lump like CR
Here’s hoping they can get better at layins.
at the risk of being un-PC (don’t hit me jack) this team lays the ball in like a womens team
Is Arizona State terrible?
kinda… I heard they’ve yet to get a road win this year
they’re mediocre at best. Some tough losses to Alabama, Maryland ans aTm but they also lost to Lehigh. However, they did blow out that same UNLV team that beat Arizona. Go figure. Like the beavs they lost most of their scoring from last year. They are relying mostly on JC transfers
Why are they in black uni’s?
It ain’t pretty but it’s so much better than what I was hoping for before the season started so what can I say. Except… :-)
That “last shot” play looked too much like one of them CR “last shot” plays.
29-20 beavs halftime
Ans right on que ASU with 11 turnovers in the first half. I’ll try not to hurt my shoulder patting mysefl on the back.
Don’t know what’s going on but Gomis seems to be doing a lot of complaining. My first reaction is stfu Gomis and play.
Bwdik
Can’t afford to lose Olaf.
just got home, what happened to olaf?
Stepped on an ASU players foot and hurt his ankle
at least he did it stepping on a sun devil
Ankle injury
Everyone prep the “Tinkle pissing away the halftime lead” jokes we stashed away pre-season :(
He held his bladder! YAY!
Beavs get first conference win of the year :-D
I can’t imagine that any of the jokes originated with you guys. I’m sure WT has heard them all. Furthermore, I doubt anyone has told them to his face.
Of course no one’s told them to his face. They can’t see that high!
And yes, I’m sure they were all unoriginal
I’m sure he probably has a pretty good sense of humor with a last name of Tinkle.
Depends?
1:02 left and Beavs up 7, devils with the ball. Beavs shooting 80% FT
80% FTs??? Who are these guys?
And they make most of their free throws when it matters in crunch time. How many times did Collier and Moreland choke last year?
Beavs played great D. Tinkle gets his first conference win.
Only 1 lead change and the Beavs led for over 36 min of the contest.
Beavs win 55-47. Congrats to Coach Tinkle on his first Pac-12 win. It was ugly but I’d rather win ugly than what we saw prior to this year. Hope Olaf’s ok. We’re gonna need him. Especially Sunday against the Cats. Yikes
Excellent win!! Lose Schafttanar and still pull out the W! Gutsy play, guys. Now THAT’S coaching! CR would have let ASU come back and win going away…
Stanford and UCLA in OT on ESPN if anyone’s interested
how the mighty bruins have fallen
2 OT now. And Mike Parker just reported on the post game show that UCLA beat Stanford in Overtime. LMFAO! I’m sure someone handed him that incorrect score and not his fault though

It sure looked bad on TV.
Those expensive empty seats behind the benches don’t look good on tv. Where are those people, and why not give your ticket to someone else if you can’t go to the game?

Bill, we will need two post players that will create offense from the inside.. We will also need two or three pure shooters that can drain the three
Watching the last 10 minutes of the second half last night was not pretty.
Thx. I read your posts with great care.
Frontrunner
Literally the same for me angry.. I’d watch a game or two if I caught it by accident… To having tickets to each game. It’s a blast
Perhaps, “Thanks, Angry Beavs” and, of course, “OS?….DS!!”
FTD
How about
I’m cj … and you’re not (a minor tweak to Chevy Chase)
?
Or else you could always just be like this guy:

I think Brandt would have been the most open to Waynes’s coaching. I’m not sure about the other two, I know we don’t like O-Live, but in one of the articles there was a reference to “negative attitudes” last year, of course no specifics.
The ‘negative attitudes’, IMO, most likely was a reflection of coaching, or lack there of. Of course it’s all 20-20 hindsight now…
At any rate it would have been nice to see.
Negative attitudes is purely a coaching thing. I don’t remember Phil Jackson ever complaining of Negative attitudes.
I would think Phil has something to complain about now….like why the hell did he decided to join the Knicks organization.
Anyone hear an update on olaf schaftenaar?
Rolled ankle… suckers hurt more than a full on sprain. He’ll need to be taped, and he’ll likely be about 85%. It’s the good foot as far as which side of the zone he plays on since the push-off is better than the landing foot for lateral D. But I still don’t expect him to be as good as he was against ASU with forcing the ball to the baseline.
What happened to the good old days when they gave the player a shot of cortisone and sent him back in?
Yeah, where’s Wilis Reed when you need him? Come on Schaft….sit in a tub of ice for three days and be ready to hit your open threes on Sunday!

Little things like this have the ability to level the playing field when distractions set in…
http://espn.go.com/college-football/bowls14/story/_/id/12144022/darren-carrington-oregon-ducks-suspended-national-title-game-failed-drug-test
A duck player suspended for smokin the reefer? Color me shocked
Doesn’t he know he’s supposed to say “We smoked it all.” ?!?
He can smoke a big fattie Monday night and watch the game on a big screen from a couch…THAT’S relaxing man.
I guess “spliffy” wins out over “natty” in this case.
They should test the whole team!
Then there wouldn’t be a game… Or we’d find out if Mariota literally can do it all on his own!
Bill thinks like I do:

Lady Beavs up 20-8 with 6 min left in the half vs ladyucks. PAC12 net.
Mandy ditched the schoolmarm doo, lookin’ good.
Andersen to be on radio at the half.
Gina tweets: Andersen on recruiting philosophy: “We don’t have to sell. We have to show…and if they don’t like it, they’re making a huge mistake.”
Yup, OS?…….DS!!
Thus the suggestion that cj display a sign on TV saying, “Thanks, Angry Beavs”
OK, but they won’t show it unless I come up with something catchy. Let me work on it…
Angybevs ees kul
How about this….?
…….THANKS,
………. N
………. G
BEAV(ER)S
………. Y
Sorry about all the dots…it was the only way to get things to line up correctly (the software here doesn’t recognize spaces at the beginning of a line, evidently).
Thats awesome. Lets see it on tv vs UofA!
I’ve got it made up and Colliseum legal (8-1/2″ x 11″). I just need to make sure I’m not eating popcorn when they pan to me. :)
Go for it cj!!!
WTF???
Lets break it down Barney style: See, the site is angrybeavs – not angry beavers. No R in Beavs and cant spell angry without the R. See he wants to say both Thanks Beavers and also credit AngryBeavs. So going both vertical and horizontal he gets both messages across. So to say angry he needs an available R and gets it from the parenthetical ER. And this way it says thanks beavers & thanks angry Beavs. Now lets all dance around.
Numbers, Barney style, said it all!
Dancing now….
Good one!!
49-24 Lady Beavs with about 10:50 to go…
Way to go Ladies!! Put the Civil War W in the good column in front of the 3rd largest crowd of 7,652 to see a women’s hoops game… Beavers win 70 – 37!! Great Job Ladies and Scott Rueck.
That dude can coach.
And recruit.
Welcome back Mark Campbell.
If you can bitch whip Ducks, than that is good bitch whippin’! Rueck’s building a powerhouse.
I think Tinkle is working on one too.
Now if Andersen can only “recruit to Corvallis” maybe he’ll join the club.
Maybe Riles will be a chum and give Tinks some pointers on how to not recruit to Corvallis
On the TV broadcast I thought I heard that all 5 starters are back from last year and they only lose 1 after this year.
Unfortunately I just can’t watch a BB game that is played 4 feet below the rim.
With an incoming 5* recruit as well..I think Rueck will keep things rolling.
Just occurred to me, WBB 8th straight CW victory. Banker always called the Ducks “Basketball on grass.” Maybe OSU should have been fielding Rueck and WBB against UO football…
I play 4 feet below the rim, so I don’t mind watching people who are better at it than I am.
I played with 2 feet on the floor – – – always. Didn’t play much but I did a lot of sitting on the bench.

Some new faces…
Does anyone know the rules regarding workouts? Can the coaches do this year round or is there a limit at all?
here are the rules from the Notre Dame website.

Thanks for posting that, progressivebeav!
Let them swap kidney’s before we anoint him.

What happened with Garbutt? That’s a terrible name, so I kind of hope he goes elsewhere…
He’s an Android guy
