  1. Wife and I heading from Bend to the coast for the weekend, decided we would stop in CV for the game…snagged some front row seats in the end zone by the Utah bench. She went to UCLA and never went to BB game, so courtside at a full Gill should be an eye-opener. Hopefully we can steal this game…

  2. I’m looking down the road, but in addition to a win tonight, I would love to see a Duck loss to the Beavers that ruins the Quackies tourney chances. It would be a little bit of sweet payback for all of the football suffering we have had to endure. It’s not inconceivable that the Beavs and Ducks both end up in the NIT.

  3. what is the deal with Olaf’s shot? gosh if he could hit some of those open looks, it would really help. Maybe he will find it and then just not miss, law of averages.

  4. Another disappointing night for Olaf, not only his 3pt shooting, but so slow to get back on D and not too sharp with his passes. I’m with Angry though, if he can hit just one three it likely will be the start of something good.

  5. Why do these halftime losers care that it’s 16-14? How is that different than 50-48? All that matters is the difference. 2 point game. All that matters. Go Beavs.

    • I think both teams are playing good d (I’d say the Beavs are playing great D, Utah good D). Beavs have had better looks overall just missed them (as usual, which is why they probably lose), but to say this is a bad game because of the low score is ridiculous. He also said the score was the result of terrible offense not good/great D. That is incorrect. What asshats. 50 year old men whining about points. So lame.

  6. Olaf cannot make shots. He’s getting good looks and just not making shots. He’s not really helping the team in other areas either. Missed a wide open three and then fouled Delon Wright instead of moving his feet and stopping the ball

  7. Can’t see the Beavers winning this game. Utah is starting to get good looks and knocking them down. Beavers have been lucky to stay in it this long but can’t see that lasting much longer

  8. Yeah, that’s ball game. Team played hard but getting nothing from LMW and Olaf once again gave this no chance. Gary has also not been good. When he’s not aggressive offensively the team does not score. Sucks when the game is there to be had but the team can’t score at all to win it

  9. GP2 has the best touch from around the rim so instead of so many 3 attempts in future games from Olaf we should get a few more inside looks for GP2.

    • I keep repeating myself, but I don’t get why GP-2 doesn’t get some stuff with his back to the basket like his dad. He could sky over some of the guards and when a big comes to double team, he can pass out it.

  10. I can understand Schaft being in a shooting slump, but he’s playing all around stupid ball right now.
This game was there for the taking with just a semi-mediocore offensive effort and they couldn’t get that.

    • We can applaud their effort, but they’ve digressed with their “on floor” IQ. They look nothing like the team that beat Arizona. It can’t be all Robbins. I’m on board with Angry, they’re out of gas. I just want two more wins and the NIT, but it’s getting hard to see that.

    • I don’t think they are overrated at all. I could see them getting to the sweet 16. They do play defense and Larry Krystkowiak is a very good coach. That team is big, long and they have some excellent shooters. Disagree with you on this one.

  11. Slow down on the Golden Age and Renaissance in Corvallis talk. Rhis team is now in a growing mini slump. NIT will require a few more key wins. Odds aren’t much better than 50/50 now and lose to Colorado and good chance we don’t make it. Ugh.

    • This team has already exceeded expectations this year. But I don’t think they are done yet. We already know they aren’t a good road team. They just lost to the 9th ranked team in the nation. No reason to abandon ship yet. I expect them to get things turned around against the Buffs Saturday night. The Buffs lone conference road win was at USC. And it took a monumental 2nd half and 3 overtime effort from Askia Booker for that to happen.

  12. i still applaud the effort tonight. tough to win when the shots arent falling, but was encouraging to see the team defense played througout despite the lack of bench minutes

  13. GP2 needs to take almost 25% of our shots for this team to be its best. That gives Olaf better spacing as he needs very clean looks or he misses over 80% of the time. That also should help Duvivier and LMW and Reid best play their games.

  14. Colorado game will be Big. Maybe last chance for a win this season. Looking like they will finish 8th and have to play the first day of the tourney. THey will need to win three more games to get into the NIT.

  15. Confession time:

I was worried we’d be one game away from a perfect season at home, and choke our final game to the quacks

At least that’s not a concern anymore

  16. KenPom projected wins against Colorado and Oregon. I’d take that and an NIT in a heartbeat, but it’s not a sure thing with the offensive slump these guys are in.

  17. Just got home from the game. A few observations

First, christ all fucking mighty. Talk about iron unkind. To hold Utah to a season low 47 points and lose by double digits? It sucks, but yikes. I haven’t looked at a box score yet but did hear Parker say the Beavs only had 4 turnovers in the game. If they shot higher than 25% for the game, I’d be shocked. Olaf, LMW and GP II were either MIA or very quiet. Give some credit to the Utes, they do play good defense. Last I had looked the Beavs had held Delon Wright to 5 pts and I believe he was scoreless in the first half. Utah has a pair of guards that are 3 point specialists. Leave them open or any room and those two are deadly. Beavs got burned a few times. Overall the Beavs played pretty damn good defense for the game. There were a few lapses, but hey, they held Utah to 47 pts. If Victor Robbins isn’t suspended, the outcome of this game may be different. But he still is and it is what it is.

Lastly, I don’t know who said 9K attendance, but I’m calling bullshit. There was no fucking way there were that many people there. At most I’d say 7000. On the south side where we were sitting, most of the upper rows were either sparse or empty. The northeast bleachers maybe had 100 people on the benches. But all in all, we had fun. Sucked to see the streak at home end but there is no shame in losing to the 9th ranked team in the nation. That was the loudest I’ve heard it at Gill in a loooooooooong fucking time.

    • I’m just depressed at the regression of the offense. I can’t believe all of it is Robbins, but maybe it is. All they have to do is score…what….55 points at home and they are almost always going to win. Nothing is “crisp” on offense anymore.

    • looking at the box score, difference in this game was 3 pt shooting. Utah 7/19, Beavs 2/15. They did hold Delon Wright to 9 pts. But he also had 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Tucker was the only Utah player in double figures with 11. Him and Brandon Taylor are the two 3 pt sharpshooters for the Utes. Combined they were 4/10. Beavs shot 33% for the game. I’m surprised it was that high. GP II only had 6 pts. LMW and Olaf each were MIA with 3 each. Everyone has to show up and contribute for this team to be successful.

      • The Beavs have certainly put up some “weird ass” stats this year……you don’t see many games where a team committs 4 turnovers and losses by double digits. Hard to believe Gomis had 0 rebounds, he tries hard, but he has such stone hands.

    • One last thing. Utah came prepared for those back door cuts. Not one time was that open in the game. Beavs tried it once and it resulted in a turnover on a pass by Olaf.

    • I like it. It is a old expression sometimes used to describe drunks.
“He was so drunk he couldn’t hit his butt…”
      Tinkle has been around.

  18. This was a game where if Olaf hit those first two wide open 3’s it might have been a different story. Utah came out poorly with all of those turnovers, the Beavs could have had a 6 or 8 point lead and a crowd going crazy. Opportunity missed.

    • Beavs led only once. 4-3. It felt to me that Utah was in control most of the game. Mainly because the gang that couldn’t shoot straight showed up

    • It seemed every time the Beavs tied it or closed within 2, someone for Utah made a shot to get them back out ahead. After it was 24-22, Tucker made that 3. That started the run for Utah that put it away. Shortly after that it was 32-23 and game, set, match

  19. If the beavs can split these last 4, they’d be 18-12 (9-9) heading into the Pac-12 tournament. Win a game there and 19 wins would certainly put them in the NIT conversation. Also should probably hope there aren’t a lot of lower tier conference tournament upsets. Any team that is the regular season conference champion that doesn’t win their conference tournament for the auto invite to the NCAA tournament is guaranteed an NIT berth.

Question for the group. If the beavs miss out on the NIT and the CBI comes calling (groan, again) do you take the invite? Or decline it?

    • I say decline. Why suffer any more?

Let’s end with a winning season, we have that wrapped even if we lose out….rest some tired players…and get ready for next year.

      • A lot of these players won’t get many playing chances with the new recruits coming in. I say if they earn a post-season invite somewhere, let them enjoy it.

        • I’m on the fence. From a fan standpoint, we’ve all gotten our fill (and then some) of the CBI during the Robinson era. But from a team and development standpoint, I can also see the benefit of getting some extra practice and games in. It’s 50/50. Good for the team but really as a fan I personally have little interest in the CBI. If they can get into the NIT and get a home game, we will be there.

        • and I disagree to an extent. Most of the walk ons won’t be back next season. With the new players coming in, it just means some of the current group won’t get as many minutes. But the bench will definitely be deeper next season. It’s also going to take some time for these new guys to get some experience. We can’t expect these four to come on like gang busters from the beginning. There will be some of a learning curve.

          • If the walk-ons won’t be back next season, give them an opportunity for some post-season memories, even if they are of the CBI variety :)

      • I wasn’t thinking about the walkons when I made my “decline” comment. I can see the benefit for those guys though so if the team wants it, I will be at any games at our house.

What about the practice players? They don’t even get to suit up for the games. About the only recognition they get is having their names on the roster. In emails with Tinkle, he says the practice players are “an integral part of the team”.

I will be at Saturday’s game with my oldest son and my two grandsons. Since I’m a vet I got 4 free seats for the Colorado game.

Like Tinkle said in the email I got 2 days ago, “Let’s finish strong!”

        Go Beavs

    • Take down that CBI championship banner too while we are at it. I was looking at it tonite shaking my head. It’s the same damn size banner as our final four appearances. Why the hell do we have a banner celebrating being the 101 best team in nation in 2009.

  20. Beavs have dropped to 97th in RPI after tonight. Colorado is a must win game (RPI 114). Final 3 games are against teams that currently have a higher RPI.

    Stanford (53)
    California (91)
    Oregon (60)

  21. These guys are so out of gas it isn’t even funny anymore. This was a winnable game, but this Utah team is well coached and long and has good shooters. Like I said before in the baseball thread before this thread jumped off, what Utah is now is what we can expect in 3 years (the 2015 class’ junior season). A top ten team with stellar defense and a for sure tourney bid with 3-4 games remaining? I’ll gladly take it.

On to the next one. Colorado. They are extremely beatable, we’ll be at home, and their defense isn’t nearly what Utah’s is.

Fun game to be at. Was slow, but not too ugly. Every basket seemed like a do-or-die occasion, it was Olaf that was killing us. If you were at the game, that feeling of relief felt by all 6-7 thousand people when Olaf hit that three was insane. Needed that three to go down. Wish he’d play more inside but I can understand that he’s spent.

Vic really did cost us a lot of games with this damn 2nd suspension. He could’ve been back and helped score. Games that got out of hand/slipped away: Utah, Arizona State, Washington, USC. At least two of these games are altered with another scorer and defender.

  22. Going back and watching the WT introductory press conference, WT said

Attitude is within your control. Some nights the shots are falling, sometimes the guys in stripes have a bad night. But the one thing we can control is attitude and effort.

Well, the beavs had one of those nights where the shots weren’t falling. Credit to Utah’s D. However I think the attitude and effort was there. Go Beavs!!! Buttfuck the Buffs Saturday night!

But not literally. Not that there’s anything wrong with that

  23. Just wait you guys!! When I get back I will just keep taking shots till I make em!!!! I’m the only one on this team that can shoot just like an NBA player, can’t wait to get back and #lead!!!

    #blessed ;-)

      • Not just you, Twitter always has it first. The search is amazing for loads of instant unfiltered info.

I’m interested to see what Twitter spin-offs take hold over the next few years. I already use http://stocktwits.com to follow markets.

        • I think I am going to buy twitter stock today. This has been a revelation. Like I pretty much do nothing on FB, use google as an encyclopedia, but Twitter is now the news and straight from the horse’s mouth in many cases. I don’t think people understand how important and revolutionary that is. Someone big is going to buy them out because it’s just too good. Heck, Rivals/Yahoo should buy them since they are front-running a ton of their recruiting info.

It seems like the only social media site with any value (rather than just a time waster/bragging platform).

          • Like any free, popular, social media site, they’re slowly ruining it. Facebook used to be clean and simple, which is why people liked it, but the site now is just a bunch of garbage advertising, games, apps all mixed in with a few posts from your friends, with only the most popular posts really showing up in your feed.

Twitter is going that route. I see advertisements much more frequently than I used to in the early days. They also recently sold a bunch of their historical data from users, to marketing companies. They’ve also recently signed a deal with google to share search engine functionality. Currently, it’s probably the best of the social media sites, but I think it’s going to peak soon and be replaced by something newer.

The updates to the phone app come almost weekly, if not daily. You’ll notice new features where you can keep a credit card on file with your profile, etc.

          • Ah see I don’t see any ads because I lock down my browser. Google tried to buy them years ago. They should probably try again, because real time news has much more value than a post from me to a friend. FB seems the most antiquated.

  24. totally off topic but wanted to share. the guy playing guitar is a washed up one hit wonder, Afroman ( had the stupid hit single “I got high” about 10 years ago)

Was playing a show for some drunk college kids in Mississippi and a girl climbed on stage and danced while he played. well, she got a little too close to him, and he flat out cold cocked her ass to the ground…..and then kept playing his song. It’s fucked up but hilarious at the same time

  25. Schaft is 1 for 21 in his last 3 point attempts. The idea that he is talented with the 3 ball needs to stop. GP2 was averaging well on these earlier in the season and LMW not too bad either. If we want to take 10 attempts every game then limit Schaft to 3 or less. Otherwise we are just committing suicide to our ability to win close games. Reid should take 5 more of his minutes every game and that could be done by not starting Schaft. Rolaf was not in love with jacking up shots and hitting rim. He was a facilitator from the top of the key. Olaf too needs less shooting and instead helpibg the inside out game or occassional cut pass. Teams are happy to let him shoot knowing he tends to rush the shot and unless wide open will miss the vast majority. If we let him shoot a few it needs to be after some major penetration and kickout where he is wide open and noone running up to provide any pressure.

    • Rolaf? Do you mean Olaf’s brother Roeland?

I agree with Olaf needing to do more inside work. He doesn’t even hardly leave the 3 point line any more. He needs to be able to hit when he’s pressured and man up. He gets his ass kicked every game now. That’s why he’s not hitting shots…he’s afraid someone will bump him or something.

    • I remember Eggers doing something on social media (twitter?) earlier this season questioning why Tinkle had his starters still in during one of the non-conference blow outs. Tinkle responded after the game…with something like “thanks for the coaching help, Kerry”. I thought it was funny…maybe Eggers didn’t?

Eggers wrote a lot more about OSU hoops during the CR era than he has about WT so far. I thought he would have done a couple of pieces about the success, but he waits until they are in a three game losing streak to do a story? I think it’s about relationships, which he had with Riley and I don’t think he has with Tinkle yet. This story really didn’t have any “inside info” like Eggers used to get.
