  1. After the hole loss this one sets up to be a blood bath. Hopefully amped up Kansas/Oregon/Usc team comes to play, and not the UCLA/Asu b squad.

    GO BEAVS! Play to potential.

  2. Such a horrible road team and seemingly average home team. Was expecting a little more out of these guys this season. Hopefully not too late to turn it around, but not seeing too many signs so far.

      • Not to pick on one player, but I thought Thompson Jr. would be better even as a freshmen. I guess I’m still looking for a lights out three point shooter who makes the defense pay night after night. It hasn’t been him so far and he is really skinny.

        • Thompson Jr. is unbelievably thin in person. Honestly he doesn’t look the part of a big time college player, physically. I too thought he would be better even as a freshman. Time will tell. He needs to hit the weights and training table.

        • He’s been good driving, though. I don’t think it’s weight. He just has to gain confidence. He and Tinkle are the two who stand out as almost ready (next year).

Eubanks, Bruce, etc need much more work.

    • Saw somewhere he had less then 15 catches and less then 140 yards this last season.

Maybe he was told to keep “looking around”. Could have been downgraded to grey shirt since he only like 5’6″ 160.

      Super fast though

      • It sounds like he just wants to stay close to home. AKA a mamma’s boy. Don’t need that type of player in the program.

They’ve spent a lot of time and money recruiting Florida for not much return, though.

        • 3000 miles vs 1000 miles. Really? Either way its a flight to get home or to have mommy come and see you. Close to home would be in Florida or Georgia. It seems to me there is another reason…

          • If they’re going to spend a lot of resources recruiting Florida, they need a better return than three 3-star guys. The Florida players will always be iffy/soft commits, too, because of distance.
I like that they’re doing it, but in the upcoming years there needs to be better returns.

    • Don’t want to rudely divulge paywall info but there is another open spot not listed yet. A 2 star that silently parted ways in January. A Sitake guy that has still been listed as committed on most sites.

    • Here’s the true deal with Ferguson. He never really held an offer from Oregon State and was only saying he did because he has friends on our team that signed last year. He got caught up in the story he spun.
There was no flipping involved, technically.

  3. I heard the line is only 10 for tonight’s game. Oh wait…..that’s actually the over/under of how many minutes I’ll be able to stand watching this sure to be crap sandwich

  4. Should be another game where Olaf is given chance after chance and his inability to make shots kills the offense as it allows Arizona’s to double and triple team GP2. Olaf is shooting 29% from the field and 21% from three in conference play and grabbing less than 4 rebounds a game. So glad he’s been playing 25 minutes a night. He makes LMW look like Stephen Curry as a shooter. This team will play a close game and then get destroyed in the 2nd half. Basically like almost every road game aside from the ones against ASU the last 2 seasons

  5. Bet the farm against the Beavs. $100K. I only earn 3.5K with a Beaver loss but this will be the easiest money I have ever made. OSU gonna get spanked. Tinkle can’t win on the road. Former UCLA coach Howland I wanted has a vastly superior road record and puts Tinks to shame at the P5 level as far as ability to win road contests.

    • I’m kind of happy for Robbins, he was a good player, getting better last year. The team fell apart completely on offense last year after he fucked up. I hope he has overcome his issues and does well at Cal-LA. Too bad he’s not still with the Beavs getting most of Olaf’s minutes!

  6. I know we give Olaf a lot of shit for a multitude of weaknesses, but he has the best understanding of three point spacing on the floor, he just misses so many sweet open looks. I wish Thompson Jr understood catch and shoot better.

    • He’s made a couple in this one, but still…he’s not a great shooter, even when his looks are uncontested. Put a hand in his face and percent from 3 is probably <25%.

  7. Better defense + better ball movement + Olaf looks, unusually, like he plays basketball= a close score against one of the best teams in conference, on the road. Amazing what happens when they come to play.

      • This team needs more from the upperclassmen, as they go, so goes the team. For some reason I have no doubt when these freshman are jrs-srs this team will not have such glaring ups and downs.

  8. Sometimes announcers get on “themes” that are just idiotic. They keep babbling about Tinkle being a starter, like he wasn’t playing significant minutes before he was inserted. A bigger story with the Beavs is how ineffective last year’s key players like Duvivier or Morris-Walker, even Olaf have become and they totally miss it. Do they even do any reseach?

  9. Even CR’s teams weren’t this bad at boxing out. It’s so basic and easy to do…makes no sense that someone can’t stand in front of someone else.

    • I also wondered what turned the switch made their program in to such a legacy power. They were awful for awhile in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I guess getting in to the P-10 from the WAC and Lute Olson were the factors. Too bad they couldn’t have kept Kevin O’Neil in place for a couple more years to run the program deeply into the ground.

    • When I’m actually in Tucson, I think their fans and everything are great. But when I watch on TV I totally agree. Somehow they come across on TV as super douches.

  10. P-12 Network is tough to watch because there is never any criticism of the officiating. It’s like the officials are never any factor in the game from the announcers persceptive.

    • Hopefully, ST jr.. doesn’t turn into another Ahmad Starks. He doesn’t like to pass the ball much. I looked at his stats and over the past 5 conference games has logged 101 minutes with 0 assists.

      • Wow, good find. Interesting stat. I’ve noticed and I don’t think I’m being harsh, that he is not one to give up the ball on the break very often and because of his size and lack of strength does not finish as often as one would like to see.

  11. Too many missed layups from GP2 this year. He heads in a bit hot but he finished 95% of these last year. I have seen 10 missed from him already this year and 3 or 4 haven’t been that close. Got to tighten this up for the 2nd half of Pac-12 play. End your OSU legacy strong Payton II.

  12. Oh gawd, Tinkle is talking about “”the process.” Just like CR – at least Tinkle doesn’t have a long-term contract – or does he?

  13. I don’t see much good basketball in black and orange. They should maybe recruit more chuckers like Roberto. And would it kill you guys to run some 1-3-1 defense?

We had lots of steals a few years ago!

I think we should bring in an assistant coach who has played in a great offense like those great Princeton teams of old. Maybe head coach Robinson wasn’t so bad? Reminds me of people who think it’s funny to say mean things about Obama care. It’s like seriously, Oh yeah, you think you got a better idea than the President?

  14. Eubanks, Olaf, and Tinkle…the OSU starting front line, combine for 2 rebounds in a combined 77 minutes of play. You’re not going to compete with anyone with stats like that.

    • That’s an oddly wrong call.

I would appreciate little Tinks getting about seven or so boards. So your point is taken. But I would like to see Olaf and Drew both have only two boards, both offensive. And that’s it.

Yes, Tinks needs to take some. You can only have two clearing the lane. The rest need to fill. The short time I watched tonight’s game, little Tinks was boxing, not filling.

      So… yeah.

  15. Heard it was a decent game until 10m left. Sorry… I was at the fights at 7 Feathers for the evening. Watched some of it. But I already know the end.

  16. I know every one of you will hate this stuff and whine and complain about music being… sniff… whine… on a basketball thread. But you’ll die for recruiting first on a hoops thread… because you’re a bunch of fucking hypocrites.

Do I need to make a lesson of that which you all have fucking tried to make a lesson of me? Would that even register? I doubt it given the audience.

You all suck eggs because everything I’ve said is just about correct… because everything you’ve done to counter it (and it has always been counter) has just sucked the hard teat. Suck on that for a while longer if you must.

You gotta come around eventually… or die of thirst.

  17. Team played much better last night. The one guard from Zona just had one of those games. I swear he could have closed his eyes and still made those thirty footers. Reid really fucked his team with that trip. As limited as he is, he is the only low post threat we have. Remind me why we were happy Gomis came back? Hands O stone and no offense. WT needs to try to get a JC or 5th year big for next year with Kone getting hurt. NIT is now the ceiling.

    • York had some really open looks though because of poor close out defense. He was able to step nicely into most of his shots. Did I hear the announcers say he had a chance to be the all time UA leader in 3 pointers? It also almost seemed like something was wrong with Payton on this trip, I’m wondering if he was under the weather? Just didn’t have his same energy

Gomis isn’t blocking shots like last year (because of his hand?) and the offcials seem to have the whistle half-blown the minute he steps on the court. I don’t really think that Reid is the answer either, he didn’t look like he was in complete basketball shape when he came back, he was struggling to get his shot off.

To me, I think it’s apparent that the younger players aren’t game changers yet as far as league play stands, so as fans we wait to see if they all get there over time. It’s never fun to wait, but it’s the reality. I guess the other option was to play last years style, with last years line up getting most of the minutes and use TT in the Victor Robbins type role, but that only took the team so far. Lots of hype, but a transiton year in the end.

    • Agree. Seemed to me like they were able to keep it close later into the game, that and considering who they were playing, is an improvement.

WT needs to pull in another outstanding class and like you mentioned, a seasoned big who can contribute. So far I haven’t been impressed with Rakocevic and am hoping WT can do better than that next time.
