Tip-off tonight is 7pm local time.

PSU beat common opponent CSUB by 14 point, Beavs beat them by 24. The transitive property doesn't apply, but if it did, Beavs by 10.

Beavs are 11-0 all-time versus PSU, and PSU is 4-45 all-time versus Pac-12 schools.

Considering this is one of the best beaver teams in 20 years, I don't think this is the year Portland State ends their drought. Beavs should take care of business handily. Figure a 20 point win at minimum.

    • The 04-05 squad should have been in the NCAA Tournament, but of course, Jay John screwed that one up. That squad and this squad are definitely the two best since 1990

      • That 04-05 squad was generating a lot of buzz with their non-conference performance and I believe started league play 2-0, but went 6-10 down the stretch. I hope this team gets over the hump in league play.

        • they went 8-1 at home in the pac ten, 0-9 on the road but did beat ucla in the pac ten tournament. The one loss at home if I remember correctly was Arizona, a team they were up by 20 on before Lute threw a fit and Salim and Frye started scoring

          • Yup, that’s it. The Beavers should have won that game. The Beavers blew numerous second half leads and some heartbreaking losses. But I think this year’s team is better. Better coaches and more talented overall. The Beavers aren’t getting much love right now, but if they go sweep the Washington schools, they will start getting some respect. If they can do that, there’s nobody in the conference who will want to play them, especially at Gill. I think the Beavers are the best team in the conference. Stanford is right there though. I’ve watched Washington, Arizona and Cal play a lot, the Beavers can beat all 3 squads and put a lot of points on the board. Washington’s defense was embarrassing today. Arizona is undersized, which is a huge mismatch against the Beavers.

What I like about the Beavers is they gonna play in so many different ways. They want to get into a run and gun type of game, but they can also play in the half court if they have to. Their defense has improved this year and they’re playing smarter. Their flaws have been not having consistent three point shooting, rebounding and free throw shooting. As of late there has been an improvement in all those areas. I’m really excited about what this team can do in conference play.

  1. This game should be up tempo and fun to watch. OSU has too many weapons for PSU to hang in there til the end in my opinion and I believe we win by just over 15 points. I hope Nelson finds his rhythm, Brandt follows-up his last performance and that Moreland scores 10+. PSU will scrap but OSU will get good all around contributions and cruise late as they go to 9-2.

    OSU 87, PSU 70

  2. OT: Matt Moore wins another game with the Fins. I have to wonder what becomes of his career at this point because I thought he was going to be relegated to second string hell this year til he was cut next year. What do yall think becomes of him next year?

    • He’s become a Trent Dilfer. Good game manager. He’s making smarter decisions and cutting down INTs. I actually saw him throw the ball out of bounds rather than force it several times today.

I’ve always thought he’d make a good NFL QB…so, I think someone will give him a shot to start. Maybe even Miami. He’s like Joe Flacco, basically. So he needs that kind of support (good run game, good D) around him.

    • I don’t hold out much hope for him with the Dolphins. GM Ireland already came out and said (after his job was saved) that finding a quarterback is his #1 priority. I guess as the cliche goes Moore is chopped liver with the Fins front office.

  3. At the end of the half Cunningham was completely grabbed as soon as he got the ball out of the in bounds. Did not understand a call not being made there.

  4. This is a fun game, but the refs are making terrible calls on end line and non calls. Burton got clocked and it was a non call?! The defense is what it is cause we’re in foul trouble early.

  5. The Beavers just need to come out for the first 7 or 8 minutes and go on a run and this one will be over. Would be nice to build a 20 point lead and cruise to a win. Outside shooting has looked good. Just need to start getting to the foul line. That will be tough, since the officials aren’t calling anything, though.

  6. “they don’t want to fall in love with that 3 point line as they’ve only gone to the line 4 times tonight”…this will be their downfall eventually this season.

  7. Gotta hand it to ’em tonight. OSU turned on the heat when PSU wasn’t letting them turn it loose and they weren’t getting any good calls from the refs. I pick good games to attend–OSU is 5-0 in the last three years when I’m in Gill.

    • The only issue I have with the numbers is the strength of most of the teams they’ve played. Hopefully we don’t get smacked in the face with a dose of reality when Pac-12 play begins.

      • They scored 100 in overtime against Texas and they’re looking pretty good right now. Schedule has played a part but the team can flat out score.

      • Seems to me Vanderbuilt and Texas were very real.

I submit that the ability and desire to play the tough D is the best attribute a team can have, and we got it. The rest is always problematical. Getting to the foul line, shooting 3’s, shooting overall hi %…..you cant count on it. But playing the tough D will keep you in games when the going gets tough.

I think this season will be fun, we keep playing hard.

  8. Doesn’t really matter who the Beavers are playing all that much if they’re gonna shoot 13 of 21 from deep. Roberto, Ahmad and Brandt are shooting the ball so well. Those three have been absolutely unbelievable the last 3 games. If Roberto and Ahmad continue to shoot well from deep, it will open up everything for Jared as a slasher. Also, Moreland has been phenomenal on the glass and blocking shots. The team right now has everything you need to be highly successful.

They’ll beat Chicago State. Then it’s on to Washington. I think UW does not want to make that one a track meet. The Beavers would win a track meet. They’re more explosive offensively. If they can sweep the Washington schools, imagine what Gill will be like against Cal? It would be packed and would be a crazy atmosphere. Such a fun season so far.

    • I’ll be at the CAL game…also, the noise was good a few moments last night and it can certainly get loud, but right now the only ones yelling are the students when on defense.

  9. Love/hate what I am seeing from Cunningham. He is showing that he has PG skills and looking more and more like a legit NBA prospect. If he starts hitting his mid range and 3 point shots at a higher clip he could get quite a bit of interest. He would have to improve a lot still though to go in the first round of this years deep draft though so I still think he will be back.

    • just kidding on the hate thing btw… I would love for JC to have such a great year that he can justify entering the draft. Just thought I’d clear that up in case an overly sensitive poster replies.

  10. Can Robinson capitalize in a “down” year for the Pac-12? From the Portland Tribune:

“If there were ever a chance for Oregon State to make some noise in conference, this is the year.

Zero Pac-12 teams are currently ranked among the nation’s top 25.

Stanford (9-1), California (9-2) and Arizona (7-4) are all good teams.

The rest of the group is lacking.”

I like the assemblage of athletes Robinson has now. I hope he can keep them focused when the competition increases.

    • Thanks PB…interesting stuff. Sounds like PSU was able to think outside that proverbial box and get a steal. I noticed you mentioned he was recruited by the OSU soccer program. I wonder if Riley even thinks to look there for a kicker?

  11. The attendance last night was 5,248! That’s half way to a sellout crowd! Gill is a pretty sweet Arena/Collisium, but the one thing that would make it better as I’ve mentioned before is updated seats, stereo/speaker system, and newer lights that can be used for an intro. There’s no reason to rebuild a new arena the size of Matt Knight Arena like the fowl did down south, cause that won’t sell out any time soon. :) GO BEAVS!!!

    • I wish they still had the “sound meter” with friendly Benny’s face on it up in the corner of Gill. I loved seeing that light up as a kid when we’d host a top 10 Arizona team and Gill would be rocking…

    • The TTATT sucks unless you’re close to the floor. And I hate watching a game that close. My favorite spots are about 15-20 rows up. At Gill, I like sitting on the end lines where nobody is behind me. But you can see the whole floor from every seat save a couple behind girders in the corners. Gill is just an awesome hoops venue, but it does need all new electrical equipment… and a marquise out front would be nice. I’ve never been thrilled with the exterior, but things can be done to enhance that. It’s that atmosphere inside that just shocks the senses when the place is full and roaring.

If we get back to that scene this year, opponents won’t know what to do when they arrive. The place has been so subdued for the last two decades that nobody who writes as an “expert” even recalls what it once was. Hell, I remember being late to some games and hearing the crowd clear as day from the MU quad. I don’t know what it is about that place, but it just gets loud in a hurry. And if you’re not yelling yourself, your ears bleed.

I really want to see a sell out this year. And not a Nikegon-type sell out where all the tickets are sold but half the fans dress as empty seats. A full Gill with a rocking crowd is a special sight to behold. It’s been too long since it’s happened. I just wonder if our fans will take the time to do it.

      • I’ve definitely never seen or heard that Gill, but I have heard of it, and look forward to experiencing it firsthand.

What is the deal with Gomis? Grades? He’s been MIA at games.

        • Started rehab about two or three weeks ago. He’s running and practicing with the team. But he will likely redshirt unless we run into depth issues. At the outset of the season, I wanted him to be up to speed and participating by league play. But this team is balanced enough to not need the extra D specialist in the middle. If he truly makes the jump to be THAT D specialist, then I say go ahead and put him in for energy and effort. But I think a redshirt year will do him as much good for his all around game as a half season against the Pac would do. Reclassify him to the 2012 class with LMW, Reid and Ostling, and that frosh group looks really nice. Four years down the road with those four and Westbrook leading a new group of excited, young prospects yet to join this squad makes the future look pretty damn good.

          • Watched Gomis warm up with the team yesterday. Looks to be as tall or slightly taller than Brandt, but with a slightly more bulky frame. Not heavy by any means, but he has a good body that could carry some serious muscle if he had the proper weight training. I agree with Jack that the redshirt season would be the best long term plan. Especially with the way Collier and Moreland are playing D right now. Some of those blocked shots were pretty impressive last night.

By the way, that missed lob dunk on the out of bounds play by Cunningham could have been the dunk of the year. He was up so high on that play, it was almost one of those “I can’t believe what I’m seeing” type moments. Really too bad it didn’t go down. And Burton had some beautiful passes last night too.

          • I so WISH that Cunningham had slammed that home! He was waaay higher than the “Kiss the Sky” dunk! It was almost a Michael Jordan esque play, but alas, he couldn’t bring it home. :/ Maybe another game?

  12. Oh, by the way, as I was walking into Gill, I went to the right, and right by the stairs to go upstairs was Steve Johnson, Radford, and Bloom! I was so close to them, I could have reached out, poked him, and asked him for his atuograph…unfortunately…I’m too young to know who those guys were and SOOOO out of the loop of OSU greats to know who they were…all I knew was that they were tall. If I had a pen and knew who they were, I’d probably ask them to autograph my ticket for me. I’m only 24, so It’d be alright to do. :p

    • BDC’s “society” comment was really stupid coming from someone in his position, but apparently he does not think he is in the customer service business. I’d love to use that one on one of my accounts, especially if I was interested in being unemployed.
