Sunday, 4pm on the Pac-12 Network.
Prior to the last game, I was pondering what it would take to make the tournament. They played a good game vs ASU, but it was a typical Lucy/Charlie Brown moment. OSU is becoming highly predictable. At least in the two major sports. The moment you’re anticipating a game, excited about where things are going, is the moment Lucy Van Pelt will show up with her dreaded plan.
I have no idea about Arizona. Given the Jekyll/Hyde nature of this team, wouldn’t be surprised if they win, get us excited again, and then lay an egg vs Oregon…

Baseball begins on Friday. I’m working on analyzing the recruiting class. Five guys are done. Hope to have that ready next week…
First!!!! I rule!!!
Holy cow bonehead! You weren’t kidding about your aimless idle condition.
Got a basketball traffic jam today.
Duke vs. BC at 3:00 (wife’s an alum so we have to watch)
OSU vs. UA at 4:00
Blazers vs. T’wolves at 5:00
beavs play on Sunday. still a great hoops weekend.
From the WBB twitter:
“Beavs win!! Beavs win!! Winter storm can’t slow down OSU, as it drops Colorado in Gill 75-63. Now 14-9, 6-5 in @pac12 play. #GoBeavs”
Next up…Utah Monday night.
you should do an OSU OC post
I haven’t heard anything new, have you guys?
Last I heard he interviewed two people but nobody knows who they are.
He was on the radio last week. Said he was considering some 10 different outside candidates. Lots of interest in the job. More than hethought there would be. is hoping to hire someone whos in their 40’s with a good mix of experience, but also young enough to have that competive drive. wants someone who can come in and learn the current system and maybe add some tweaks/wrinkles rather than someone who would change the whole scheme. wants the coach to eventually take over playcalling in a year plus after a learning period. Riley Will call plays this year at least. said he would love to have a coach hired in next 10 days (more like 5 days now).
I was paraphrasing, but i think the audio is here after a few minutes of signing day talk.
http://audio.1080thefan.com/device/mobile/a/87091774/mike-riley-oregon-state-head-football-coach.htm?
Hmmm… I know of someone who fits those parameters.
Why would he be surprised there was interest in the job? Does he not know we play in a major conference? Does he not hear that he is one of the most well respected coaches in all of football? Have our OCs not been promoted from here in his tenure?
Does he not have confidence in our program or himself?
I think I remember him explaining himself with that comment, but i was driving home from work at the time and might not have picked up on everything he said. I think he was more surprised (happily) at the volume of interested candidates. I think he threw the word “deal” in there somewhere. made it sound like an outside hire was more likely than promotion from within, but he also was vague enough to leave other options open.
Thanks. The original take was confusing.
Went to the Gopher vs Indiana game at The Barn last night. CBB at its best.14,600 plus sellout, band, cheerleaders, nat champ dance line, great mascot. NBA cannot compare to the passion and intensity of good CBB. Like Gill was back in the day. Beating a CBB blue blood ……priceless.
Yogi Ferrel is a really good player and IU has a frosh center who is going to be great. Fantastic
fundamentals/ footwork and a great athlete. Pitino Sr was at the game and high fiving the fans after the game. Tom Crean is very good coach, but has to be one of the most annoying ones to watch. Coach Clappy as we call him. Wound tighter than a two dollar watch. Can’t imagine the family dinners with Jimmy Harbough. Fistfight over the last piece of fried chicken?
I can’t stand Crean, so I’ve been enjoying seeing IU lose this season. I grew up going to Purdue games with that atmosphere you’re talking about, and the rivalry between Keady and Bob Knight leaves great memories. I always notice the lack of basketball enthusiasm in the state of Oregon compared to Indiana. I attribute it to there being little to do in Indiana, and Oregon kids having a lot more options.
It could be that there are roughly twice as many people as Oregon… in a flat, boring state that is about one-third the size of Oregon.
Or it could be that its professional and college hoops have been more recently relevant that they have here… with surrounding populations also enjoying success. When the Lakers, UCLA or Zony do well, we’re still a thousand miles away. When there’s success like there was from the mid-70’s to 1990, there is almost a lunatic frenzy over hoops.
Southern Indiana along the Ohio is far from flat and very beautiful. I guess I agree with boring as I don’t live there anymore.
I’ll put flat this way. I spent too much time in North Dakota, and there are actual mountains in that state.
It’s flat.
There is no relief in Indiana, meaning it is just flat.
It is pretty in places.
Keady also belongs in the “comb over” hall of fame.
blazers have a better atmosphere than the pacers. We got that!
The lines on this game have been interesting. They were OSU+15 with an o/u of 133.5. Then people started buying the Beavs, and yesterday it dropped to 14.5 and 132.5. But as of 10am it has gone up to 16 and 134.
So this is supposed to be a 75-59 game?
I don’t buy the spread. Without Ashley, they lose interior integrity and their perimeter D suffers as a result. And even if it’s a 20 point game late, the loser almost always makes it look better in garbage time than it really is.
The o/u is below the teams’ combined scoring D average for the season… not the conference… not the last couple games. Good luck taking under on this one.
Most likely a loss this afternoon, so at 5-6, can they go 4-3 the rest of the way to get CR his first .500 season is league play. I think CR needs .500 league play and NIT bid to keep the heat off. You would think wins again Wazzu and USC (they must get these two), but where do they get the other two? Huskie’s at home? ASU at home? Who the hell knows with this team!
agreed. Loss. No, the schedule looks too tough. I expect maybe 3 wins the remainder of the schedule. Washington schools at home. Maybe USC on the road or ASU at home?????
oh, and expect some home cookin today. Meaning the ‘Cats will shoot probably close to twice as many FT’s as the beavs.
You nailed the home cooking theory, but it’s also shitty Beaver defense again.
neither helps. But yes the beavers have trouble guarding quick, athletic teams
Through out CR’s tenure, they have made a lot of obscure guards look like superstars either by not defending the three or not being able to stop penetration.
Absolute fucking horseshit. Collier got hammered not once but twice right there. Fucking officiating
Osu was hanging with UA through the first 15 minutes but UA appears to be gaining momentum. Pretty much any UA shot near the rim is automatically a foul, while its being called much more loosely on tye Beavs end. Collier robbed after drawing contact results in turnover and 3 for UA. Typical flow of pac 12 basketball
then Nelson gets fouled on the next posession, no call. Refs swallowing their whistles at the end of the half. Cats get the last 6 pts and lead by 10 at the half.
I want to see CRob get off his ass and start riding these worthless fucking officials. EVEN if it gets him ejected! Jesus, stand up for your players. This team got rat fucked Thursday night and is getting rat fucked again. You absolutely can’t win when its 5 on 8
First I’ve heard of the term “rat fucked.” Curious if there’s history to it or did you just coin the phrase for Pac-12 officials vs the Beavs?
Been saying it for years to describe anything unjust. Getting screwed over = rat fucked
Robert should have shot six free throws just on the highlights they are showing.
Classic Beav unforced over and back violation by Moreland
Their interior defense is not been very good.
outscored 38-12 in the paint so far
Collier has one move.
Momma Machado has something on the blitz forum about the OC coaching search. Probably just more garbage to try and generate revenue for blitz and probably nothing of substance. I can wait
How did Zona keep it going after Lute left? They were awful before Lute, so I thought it was him. Did they upgrade facilities? Was it just being in the P-10. I guess Sean Miller is a great coach?
They have a good history and facilities for b-ball. Plus, being located in Southern Arizona helps (10 degrees cooler than Phoenix as well).
They were awful before Lute? HA! That was 30 years ago! Some stuff have changed. OSU football isn’t a doormat, Reagan’s not in office, Lebron James is a person!
The McKale center is one of the finest arena’s in the West (in addition to being one of the larger campus arenas). Richard Jefferson donated them a very nice practice facilty. They’re extremely relevant in the NBA (draft picks almost ever year). And they made an excellent hire post Olson (Pennell or O’Neil would have been a disaster).
Arizona was never going to go anywhere.
I don’t know about McKale being fine as an arena. It’s pretty much like Gill with more seating and improved lighting. They are up for renovations (ongoing?), but the concourses are like steam tunnels. And they are woefully short on bathrooms.
Also like Gill, once you’re in the arena there’s not a bad sight line in the house. But their fans make OSU fans look really really young. And you can sometimes take a nap there. If you stack it up against other western arenas, it’s going to get the “history” nod for the last 30 years. But there’s nothing really special about it besides the teams they put on the floor. It’s Thomas and Mack with a good team and a bunch of blue hairs in the stands.
Sean Miller is a good coach. Look at his track record. Won everywhere he’s been. He also young so UA will be good for awhile.
Pathetic second half effort, They looked clueless.
disagree–they got homered just as well.
