  1. Stanford would be scary if they had a legitimate QB. Hogan had a pretty good sophomore season but has regressed since. He’s holding Stanford back. Nearly has thrown 2 pick 6’s in the first quarter today. He stares down receivers constantly. If he throws at Steven Nelson when they play OSU, Nelson will have a monster game.

    • Colorado looking strong, their qb hangs in there delivers the ball well. He gets hit a ton though. Cal has the beaverjuice way too many penalties.

That was poor call on uw fumble return for td. Stanford ball carrier momentum looked stopped.

  2. For the first in almost twenty years, yours truely, good ole PBH returns to the sidlelines. In Palm Springs with the boys for annual golf getaway and we’re talking about tonight’s game. Friend, retired Nike bigshot says “Let me see what Mr. Knight can do.” Two hours later…sidelines passes!!

Now if anything can break the fifty three year old jink it would be PBH, goofy glasses and all on the sidelines where he belongs. Go Beavs

    • Nice score coach. Always wondered if sideline passes were as cool as they seem. Can you even see the other side of the field down there? Looking forward to your post game analysis. We’ll be looking for you on tv.(which side are you getting passes for?)

  3. NC State give FSU all they can handle. Given their success at home against the FSU the past few years, they are lining up to be to the Seminoles what the Beavers were to the Trojans for the last half of the 2000s.

  4. Watching point spread move from 11 at the open, all the way down to 7.5 currently. That’s a huge move.

I’m Going on on a limb…or not. I’ve got no idea what will happen. OSU 27-24.

  5. Utah up 21-0 on Wazzu in the first qtr. Utah with a pick six and punt return for a TD. Utah just might be a contender in the south this year. They aren’t going to be a gimme.

  6. Phil Steele’s breakdown for tonight:

USC is 10-4 in this series but there have been 4 outright upsets in the series L6Y. The HT is
a strong 11-2 and OSU has not won in LA s/’60, losing 22 str trips. LY USC led 24-14 and
OSt went 64/6 but missed a 26 yd fg. SC went 90/6 for a td to lead 31-14 after 3Q. OSU
was int’d at the 3 and int’d at the 16 in the 4Q. The Trojans come in off a much needed bye
as 2 wks ago traveling across the country off a big win over Stanford they were upset 37-
31 to BC. The Beavers are off a 28-7 win over SDSt as QB Mannion became the all-time
pass leader here (11,339). They had dominating 25-11 FD and 372-215 yd edges. Look for
the Trojans to get a bounce back win as my computer likes them to win by double digits.

  7. This QB throws like crap. And look at all these throws that are just janky over the middle pass plays. So bad. It’s like every Mariotta TD.

  8. That was some GARBAGE coverage by that Mizzou corner. luckily that QB has the arm strength of a quadriplegic and it gave him plenty of time to recover.

    So, so bad.

  9. Nice tackle by DJ. That speed. 3 and out, nice offense, USC.

And WTF was that punt return? Stephen Nelson back there, and did this crazy, 180 catch. I thought we’d lose the ball there for sure.

  10. 8 year hook route, Mannion stared at the receiver the entire time, pick 6.

Again, not throwing the ball downfield, USC stacking the box area. Going to be a long night if Riley forgot his balls in Corvallis.

    • You think MANNION is the problem? Man, that’s insane. Not having a coach with testicles to throw the ball downfield a few times, not having a real offensive line…those are issues. The 2nd best QB in OSU history, not the issue.

  11. Don’t see the Beavers winning this game. USC is just gonna sit on all the underneath routes with Oregon State having no receiver who can stretch the field. Gonna be a long night.

  12. With Bolden out, do we have any receivers suited up tonight that can actually stretch the field against defense backs with elite speed? Going to be long night if USC can cheat up all game.

  13. Jim Wilson just called it accurately, Ward, instead of going for an extra juke and a few yards, rather tends to lower into contact, tries to punish the tackler

  14. About time they call a penalty on these DBs. Holding all game.

Speaking of, what is with that announcer that can’t pronounce words? Victor BOWden, HOWding, etc.

  15. Some awesome plays, but couldn’t get any real yards outside of two big Mullany catches.

Also, announcer informs us that we kicked a “Field Go.” No wonder he doesn’t know anything about OSU, he’s a downer from the south.

  16. This is the type of game where Beavs tease us then USC athleticism breaks our back and takes it on home because we didn’t capitalize. Ring a familiar bell?

  17. How the hell is a RB wide open, uncovered? That’s the only thing they’re doing right now, WR screens and RB passes.

    God dammit Banker.

  18. Are you kidding me with the tip-INT.

Amazing. Fuck us. Can we try a deep throw that isn’t just “Sprint the sideline, throw up a 50-50 ball and hope our WR brings it in”? Like a mid post, or out-route, or…ANYTHING BUT A COINFLIP HAIL MARY!!!

  19. WHY DONT WE RUN THE BALL DOWN THEIR THROAT. WE HAVE BEEN RUNNING IT GOOD. AND RILEY WONT STAY WITH IT AND NOW WE THROW ANOTHER PICK. STUPID FRIGGING COACHING, DID THEY NOT SEE THAT BC RAN FOR 452

  20. Imo Timber called it:

“…This is the type of game where Beavs tease us then USC athleticism breaks our back and takes it on home because we didn’t capitalize. Ring a familiar bell?…”

  21. You could feel the game would go this way. Everyone sensed the Beavs have/had a shot to win, but you just knew with the Riley factor (-7) and Mannion vs good competition they’d hand the game away. And that’s what they are doing, just beating themselves with bad play calling, bad execution, and handing USC the game.

  22. An inability to land a playmaker at wideout in the last couple years is being exposed tonight. Going from Wheaton and Cooks to this is not a good look for Riley but also not surprising.

  23. Can someone please get a picture of that mark banker face and post it on here? I need it for my fantasy football team. Also, it should be the official flag for this blog.

  24. Not you guys, but this is what the majority of Beaver fans what, so this is what they get.

Riley is a disaster and always will be. He’s almost 60 I gave up on him changing long ago, but many keep thinking he’ll adapt and learn from mistakes. He doesn’t. He will mess up the clock until he’s pushing up daisies.

    • Yep … that was so incredibly MORONIC. Anyone could see to call time out then. But Riley knows he cant do much with a small amt of time so he thinks no one else can.

Does he turn his brain OFF, when the game starts???? Good god, a little kid would know to call time out. Ridiculous… incredible…moronic…

  25. How ridiculous that a 5th year QB with 4 years of starting experience is the weakest link on the team tonight? Mannion looks scared, over-thinking.

  26. First half grades:

QB (C-): Has made a few good throws and been under a lot of pressure, but also stared down a receiver leading to a pick-6. How much is on him vs the receivers and line?
RB (B+): No big runs, but lots of solid ones. ESPN had a stat that said we had run 7 times inside for -9 yards, but that can’t be right.
WRs (C-): Entirely based on Mullaney’s two big catches. Nobody else has made a play, and Villamin tipped a ball in the endzone for an INT.
OLine (C-): Good run blocking, terrible pass blocking. Same story every single game.
DLine (C+): One sack, not giving up many runs, but not applying a ton of consistent pressure, either.
LBs (B): Good tackles and stuffing the run, but lost the RB on a wheel route for a 20 yard TD. If Banker would blitz with them once in a while it would solve a lot of problems. They have the speed, let them loose!
DBs (B+): As usual, our best overall group. Good tackling, good coverage, not giving anything up except to that big, fast TE that had two nice plays.
Special Teams (B+) Kick return for TD, a nice punt return, made FG by Lettuce, and a few decent punts. Better than usual, better than expected.

Ok game so far; they received in the first half so you’d expect them to be up by a few points and they are. USC looks more mortal than I can remember in a long, long time, but we have some massive flaws right now(OLine, play calling) that are going to be very tough to overcome. Having a line that can’t pass block with a QB that can’t really run is a recipe for disaster(remember our bowl game vs. Texas?)

We can still win this but it’s going to take some better play calling(Throw the ball downfield/over the middle) to keep USC from stacking the box and taking away our surprisingly effective running game.

  27. And the dean of P12 coaches is outsmarted again. And note to Banker, if they’re going to throw the Hail Mary maybe you should rush more than 3 so the QB doesn’t have all day to throw it.

    • Shit, I switched over to the Mariner game because I thought the first half was over and I come back to this shit??? And a word for Garrett or Riley or whoever the hell calls plays…the world won’t end if you run the ball three times in a row! Boston College just lost to Colorado State, but somehow rushed for 450 yards against USC.

      • No it was right. First down was a long pass play that was knocked away by Zimmerman. Second down was intentional grounding. Third down was incomplete. 4th down was a short ppass. Fifth down was hail mary.

    • I just rewatched, it was first down, espy switch to 2 & 10 immediately. No conspiracy theory, unless it about Riley betting on the beats to lose.

  28. Had we run the ball instead of throwing into the endzone on our drive we probably would’ve eaten enough clock to prevent this. Would be 14-13 instead of 21-10.

  29. They keep talking about how OSU poorly defended that Hail Mary pass and got boxed out by the USC receivers. That’s true, but none of them are talking about how the play should have never happened in the first place.

  30. Ortiz wouldn’t have fumbled the ball if his head wasn’t being ripped off. Also I think his butt was on the ground first, but whatever.

  31. How the hell do you guys know nobody is getting open? Unless you’re at the game with a bird’s eye view. We literally see 5% of the field on any given pass.

  32. 3 poor passes and out. Clearly Riley has given up, and Mannion is rattled.

We’re done. I don’t see any way we win this. The shit streak continues in the coliseum

    • Couldn’t agree more. He always reverts to passing even down 1score with even more than a half left. He never stays committed to running and doesn’t run near enough for us to be much more than a Spud Bowl team. Garrett would di better without Riley influencing with his pass happy nonsense.

Fire Riley and tell Garrett the job is his for atleast a year as long as he runs it between 55 and 60% of the time. Any less and he too will be replaced.

  33. Glad I went out instead of watching this. Watching the hail mary highlight is hilarious. A lot of delusional people out there if they thought OSU actually stood a chance in this game.

  34. DEFENSE IS WORE OUT BECAUSE OF THE INEPTENESS OF THE OFFENSE. THE OFFENSE SUCKS BECAUSE OF POOR PLAY CALLING. RILEY SUCKS BUT HE’S A NICE GUY

  35. So obviously this game will be defined by the hail mary that shouldn’t have been. I’ve been following this thread and lurking on this site for a while now but that ONE PLAY made me want to spam every OSU message boards with “Fire Riley!” posts than any other in recent memory. With that ONE PLAY, I think (HOPE!) we have reached the tipping point in Riley’s career at Oregon State. There is no way people watching this game see that unfold and maintain their support. If they do, then our fan base is truly as broken as our coaching staff.

  36. Had all I can handle tonight. USC is solid defensively, as they showed against us and Stanford a few weeks ago. The one thing they can’t seem to defend is the zone-read that Boston College ran on them all day, so other teams in the conference should give them some problems going forward. Here’s hoping none of the injuries are long term on our defense.

  37. USC IS NOT THAT GOOD. WE GOT BEAT BECAUSE OF COACHING. RILEY IS GETTING WORSE GAME BY GAME. OSU IS UNPREPARED AND OUTCOACHED EVERY GAME. I WILL NOT RENEW MY SEASON TICKETS SO I CAN WATCH THIS. I FEEL BAD FOR THE BEAVER PLAYERS, THEY ARE PLAYING FOR A NICE GUY WHO CAN’T COACH.

    • I was listening to Riley on 1080 the fan espn radio in Portland on Thursday after work(every Thursday around 5:15 pm) and he stated that he had still to yet WRITE OUT BY HAND his entire game plan…..apparently in 48 hours, Riley can’t write a complete game plan, recruit, watch film, coach practices, travel, and practice some more before game time…he’s over working himself and needs to learn to deligate duties to is hired OC and not be head coach and “OC”, time manager all at the same time…it’s apparent that john Garrett is a glorified QB coach with the title of OC.

      • I said 24-13

Some of you are just delusional. Denial. Not just a river in Eqypt. HOW MANY TIMES have we all been lifted up, only to have it come crashing down on us???? USC wins this game. Easily. They’ve had 2 weeks to prepare for that ass kicking they got at BC. Fools

        http://angrybeavs.com/media/10430#bottom

However I also thought we’d lose to SDSU. This team is average at best.

    • USC definitely deserves this win but our special teams and defense have played well (other than the atrocious Hail Mary). Our offense has just been awful. If they had played better we definitely could have won. I don’t think it was so crazy to think it was possible.

  38. So this team has no receivers.

Stop fooling yourself, take out all the worthless skinnies…replace them with any handy big motherfucker and run the ball.

    Works for navy.

  39. It seems like every other P-12 team is getting better, I don’t think there is a gimme on the schedule anymore. Will Riley be held accountable if it falls apart this year?

    • I don’t think so. Been slow to get play calls in all night. Mannion getting almost every snap off with less than 5 seconds on the clock. This is happening with everyone running to line of scrimmage. Usc can predict snap count in this situation and pin their ears back. With a bad o line, snap count is our only advantage and a poor job of getting play calls in is marginalizing that advantage.

  40. What happened to the great tight ends, who were supposed to be a strength this year? They can’t get any separation either. Too much Izzy’s buffet? I bet Smith has more penalty yards than receiving yards this season.

      • This travesty is why BDC must be canned. Massari can’t be any worse and appears to be capable. He can take over and find a new Head Coach after this year or next. 15 years is too much time. Oregon State needs new leaders at Football HC & AD.

  41. I am at the point Colorado was 2 years ago with Embree. Actually want the team to fold and get beat by Colorado to help bring about new coaches at OSU. Riley has played himself and what remains of Beaver Nation out. Making a good hire without eons of wasted time guaranteed for low results is more important than a Spud Bowl in Boise or its equivalent. Move on or the song remains the same.

Our time is more valuable than anything Riley has accomplished. It was time to pass the baton awhile ago and we don’t need to see a slow decline from an aging Riley who is clearing having more trouble managing games properly as evidenced by the Hail Mary and numerous other bumbles. IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON. RILEY SHOULD RETIRE. IT IS BEST FOR THE UNIVERSITY.

    • Not really a fair comparison. The Sun Bowl had been kicked down a couple notches when Utah won it. Besides, politics and marketing can play more of a role in bowl placement than performance. 10 wins is what matters, and that’s a nice season.

Bottom line: Riley peaked in 06-09. Those seasons, despite their frustrations, were solid and each had a chance to be more. Since then we’ve been declining. ’12 was a nice season that is now looking like a clear outlier.

We have a balanced offense, but we ‘re calling plays like its an Air Raid. Sadly we have neither the personnel nor the play book for an air raid to function. Woods is playing great this year and we are not using him. Really hard to watch.

Riley has lost it with regard to play calling, and he has regressed in in-game management. Time to give Garrett a shot. Can’t be any worse. If we’re stuck with Riley for years to come he absolutely must recognize and delegate his weaknesses.

      • I think FireMR.com is still up for grabs… The guy that started that website was an absolute visionary! Nice to see a few contributing writers on Rivals including mama’s own hubby questioning Riley’s horrible play calling and that absolute fail leading to the Hail Mary. We can do so much better than Opie.
