Stanford would be scary if they had a legitimate QB. Hogan had a pretty good sophomore season but has regressed since. He’s holding Stanford back. Nearly has thrown 2 pick 6’s in the first quarter today. He stares down receivers constantly. If he throws at Steven Nelson when they play OSU, Nelson will have a monster game.
For the first in almost twenty years, yours truely, good ole PBH returns to the sidlelines. In Palm Springs with the boys for annual golf getaway and we’re talking about tonight’s game. Friend, retired Nike bigshot says “Let me see what Mr. Knight can do.” Two hours later…sidelines passes!!
Now if anything can break the fifty three year old jink it would be PBH, goofy glasses and all on the sidelines where he belongs. Go Beavs
Nice score coach. Always wondered if sideline passes were as cool as they seem. Can you even see the other side of the field down there? Looking forward to your post game analysis. We’ll be looking for you on tv.(which side are you getting passes for?)
NC State give FSU all they can handle. Given their success at home against the FSU the past few years, they are lining up to be to the Seminoles what the Beavers were to the Trojans for the last half of the 2000s.
Going to be fun. All 7 SEC West teams in the Top 25. And since they all only play each other the rest of the way, the losses won’t knock them down as far.
The Shaq Thompson fumble returned for a touchdown was a terrible no call too, that play should have been blown dead. What’s scary is that Washington is average competition and they couldn’t put them away.
Stanford yes, Washington’s defense is not good whatsoever. Stanford moves the ball on them but then Hogan craps all over himself. Washington would be down double digits if Stanford had a good QB.
Peterson’s decision making leave a lot to be desired today. Bad spot to try a fake punt, and now making Stanford re-kick it and losing 20 yards of field position.
Utah up 21-0 on Wazzu in the first qtr. Utah with a pick six and punt return for a TD. Utah just might be a contender in the south this year. They aren’t going to be a gimme.
In the past, they’ve been much worse when playing on the road. If they look solid against UCLA (even if they don’t win that game), I’ll give them more credit
USC is 10-4 in this series but there have been 4 outright upsets in the series L6Y. The HT is
a strong 11-2 and OSU has not won in LA s/’60, losing 22 str trips. LY USC led 24-14 and
OSt went 64/6 but missed a 26 yd fg. SC went 90/6 for a td to lead 31-14 after 3Q. OSU
was int’d at the 3 and int’d at the 16 in the 4Q. The Trojans come in off a much needed bye
as 2 wks ago traveling across the country off a big win over Stanford they were upset 37-
31 to BC. The Beavers are off a 28-7 win over SDSt as QB Mannion became the all-time
pass leader here (11,339). They had dominating 25-11 FD and 372-215 yd edges. Look for
the Trojans to get a bounce back win as my computer likes them to win by double digits.

That was some GARBAGE coverage by that Mizzou corner. luckily that QB has the arm strength of a quadriplegic and it gave him plenty of time to recover.
You think MANNION is the problem? Man, that’s insane. Not having a coach with testicles to throw the ball downfield a few times, not having a real offensive line…those are issues. The 2nd best QB in OSU history, not the issue.
Don’t see the Beavers winning this game. USC is just gonna sit on all the underneath routes with Oregon State having no receiver who can stretch the field. Gonna be a long night.
With Bolden out, do we have any receivers suited up tonight that can actually stretch the field against defense backs with elite speed? Going to be long night if USC can cheat up all game.
I never said that so don’t respond to my comment. I’ll never say the Pac-12 refs officiate a good game. They officiate for the school with bigger donors.
Jim Wilson just called it accurately, Ward, instead of going for an extra juke and a few yards, rather tends to lower into contact, tries to punish the tackler
This is the type of game where Beavs tease us then USC athleticism breaks our back and takes it on home because we didn’t capitalize. Ring a familiar bell?
Indeed. 3 games in and considering the competition. Also doesn’t provide context for those 3rd downs. Something like a weighted 3rd down conversion would be useful.
Amazing. Fuck us. Can we try a deep throw that isn’t just “Sprint the sideline, throw up a 50-50 ball and hope our WR brings it in”? Like a mid post, or out-route, or…ANYTHING BUT A COINFLIP HAIL MARY!!!
WHY DONT WE RUN THE BALL DOWN THEIR THROAT. WE HAVE BEEN RUNNING IT GOOD. AND RILEY WONT STAY WITH IT AND NOW WE THROW ANOTHER PICK. STUPID FRIGGING COACHING, DID THEY NOT SEE THAT BC RAN FOR 452
“…This is the type of game where Beavs tease us then USC athleticism breaks our back and takes it on home because we didn’t capitalize. Ring a familiar bell?…”
You could feel the game would go this way. Everyone sensed the Beavs have/had a shot to win, but you just knew with the Riley factor (-7) and Mannion vs good competition they’d hand the game away. And that’s what they are doing, just beating themselves with bad play calling, bad execution, and handing USC the game.
An inability to land a playmaker at wideout in the last couple years is being exposed tonight. Going from Wheaton and Cooks to this is not a good look for Riley but also not surprising.
Can someone please get a picture of that mark banker face and post it on here? I need it for my fantasy football team. Also, it should be the official flag for this blog.
Not you guys, but this is what the majority of Beaver fans what, so this is what they get.
Riley is a disaster and always will be. He’s almost 60 I gave up on him changing long ago, but many keep thinking he’ll adapt and learn from mistakes. He doesn’t. He will mess up the clock until he’s pushing up daisies.
Yep … that was so incredibly MORONIC. Anyone could see to call time out then. But Riley knows he cant do much with a small amt of time so he thinks no one else can.
Does he turn his brain OFF, when the game starts???? Good god, a little kid would know to call time out. Ridiculous… incredible…moronic…
QB (C-): Has made a few good throws and been under a lot of pressure, but also stared down a receiver leading to a pick-6. How much is on him vs the receivers and line?
RB (B+): No big runs, but lots of solid ones. ESPN had a stat that said we had run 7 times inside for -9 yards, but that can’t be right.
WRs (C-): Entirely based on Mullaney’s two big catches. Nobody else has made a play, and Villamin tipped a ball in the endzone for an INT.
OLine (C-): Good run blocking, terrible pass blocking. Same story every single game.
DLine (C+): One sack, not giving up many runs, but not applying a ton of consistent pressure, either.
LBs (B): Good tackles and stuffing the run, but lost the RB on a wheel route for a 20 yard TD. If Banker would blitz with them once in a while it would solve a lot of problems. They have the speed, let them loose!
DBs (B+): As usual, our best overall group. Good tackling, good coverage, not giving anything up except to that big, fast TE that had two nice plays.
Special Teams (B+) Kick return for TD, a nice punt return, made FG by Lettuce, and a few decent punts. Better than usual, better than expected.
Ok game so far; they received in the first half so you’d expect them to be up by a few points and they are. USC looks more mortal than I can remember in a long, long time, but we have some massive flaws right now(OLine, play calling) that are going to be very tough to overcome. Having a line that can’t pass block with a QB that can’t really run is a recipe for disaster(remember our bowl game vs. Texas?)
We can still win this but it’s going to take some better play calling(Throw the ball downfield/over the middle) to keep USC from stacking the box and taking away our surprisingly effective running game.
And the dean of P12 coaches is outsmarted again. And note to Banker, if they’re going to throw the Hail Mary maybe you should rush more than 3 so the QB doesn’t have all day to throw it.
Shit, I switched over to the Mariner game because I thought the first half was over and I come back to this shit??? And a word for Garrett or Riley or whoever the hell calls plays…the world won’t end if you run the ball three times in a row! Boston College just lost to Colorado State, but somehow rushed for 450 yards against USC.
No it was right. First down was a long pass play that was knocked away by Zimmerman. Second down was intentional grounding. Third down was incomplete. 4th down was a short ppass. Fifth down was hail mary.
Had we run the ball instead of throwing into the endzone on our drive we probably would’ve eaten enough clock to prevent this. Would be 14-13 instead of 21-10.
They keep talking about how OSU poorly defended that Hail Mary pass and got boxed out by the USC receivers. That’s true, but none of them are talking about how the play should have never happened in the first place.
How the hell do you guys know nobody is getting open? Unless you’re at the game with a bird’s eye view. We literally see 5% of the field on any given pass.
Angie Machado (@AngieMachado1) tweeted at 9:41 PM on Sat, Sep 27, 2014:
Let’s stop throwing the ball. Mannion looks scared out there. Run game is working why deviate from it?
It was over with the Pick-6 to be honest, then nail in the coffin was the hail mary. Now the only reason to watch is to see how bad Riley messes up and how many INTs Mannion throws.
Couldn’t agree more. He always reverts to passing even down 1score with even more than a half left. He never stays committed to running and doesn’t run near enough for us to be much more than a Spud Bowl team. Garrett would di better without Riley influencing with his pass happy nonsense.
Fire Riley and tell Garrett the job is his for atleast a year as long as he runs it between 55 and 60% of the time. Any less and he too will be replaced.
Glad I went out instead of watching this. Watching the hail mary highlight is hilarious. A lot of delusional people out there if they thought OSU actually stood a chance in this game.
So obviously this game will be defined by the hail mary that shouldn’t have been. I’ve been following this thread and lurking on this site for a while now but that ONE PLAY made me want to spam every OSU message boards with “Fire Riley!” posts than any other in recent memory. With that ONE PLAY, I think (HOPE!) we have reached the tipping point in Riley’s career at Oregon State. There is no way people watching this game see that unfold and maintain their support. If they do, then our fan base is truly as broken as our coaching staff.
I’ve been a fan long enough to know nothing will probably change. I still have faith that Riley will fuck up something so badly that it will force a change in the guard and I’m hoping that is exactly what happened tonight. Tall order, I know..
Had all I can handle tonight. USC is solid defensively, as they showed against us and Stanford a few weeks ago. The one thing they can’t seem to defend is the zone-read that Boston College ran on them all day, so other teams in the conference should give them some problems going forward. Here’s hoping none of the injuries are long term on our defense.
USC IS NOT THAT GOOD. WE GOT BEAT BECAUSE OF COACHING. RILEY IS GETTING WORSE GAME BY GAME. OSU IS UNPREPARED AND OUTCOACHED EVERY GAME. I WILL NOT RENEW MY SEASON TICKETS SO I CAN WATCH THIS. I FEEL BAD FOR THE BEAVER PLAYERS, THEY ARE PLAYING FOR A NICE GUY WHO CAN’T COACH.
I was listening to Riley on 1080 the fan espn radio in Portland on Thursday after work(every Thursday around 5:15 pm) and he stated that he had still to yet WRITE OUT BY HAND his entire game plan…..apparently in 48 hours, Riley can’t write a complete game plan, recruit, watch film, coach practices, travel, and practice some more before game time…he’s over working himself and needs to learn to deligate duties to is hired OC and not be head coach and “OC”, time manager all at the same time…it’s apparent that john Garrett is a glorified QB coach with the title of OC.

Some of you are just delusional. Denial. Not just a river in Eqypt. HOW MANY TIMES have we all been lifted up, only to have it come crashing down on us???? USC wins this game. Easily. They’ve had 2 weeks to prepare for that ass kicking they got at BC. Fools
USC definitely deserves this win but our special teams and defense have played well (other than the atrocious Hail Mary). Our offense has just been awful. If they had played better we definitely could have won. I don’t think it was so crazy to think it was possible.
It seems like every other P-12 team is getting better, I don’t think there is a gimme on the schedule anymore. Will Riley be held accountable if it falls apart this year?
I don’t think so. Been slow to get play calls in all night. Mannion getting almost every snap off with less than 5 seconds on the clock. This is happening with everyone running to line of scrimmage. Usc can predict snap count in this situation and pin their ears back. With a bad o line, snap count is our only advantage and a poor job of getting play calls in is marginalizing that advantage.
What happened to the great tight ends, who were supposed to be a strength this year? They can’t get any separation either. Too much Izzy’s buffet? I bet Smith has more penalty yards than receiving yards this season.
This travesty is why BDC must be canned. Massari can’t be any worse and appears to be capable. He can take over and find a new Head Coach after this year or next. 15 years is too much time. Oregon State needs new leaders at Football HC & AD.
I am at the point Colorado was 2 years ago with Embree. Actually want the team to fold and get beat by Colorado to help bring about new coaches at OSU. Riley has played himself and what remains of Beaver Nation out. Making a good hire without eons of wasted time guaranteed for low results is more important than a Spud Bowl in Boise or its equivalent. Move on or the song remains the same.
Our time is more valuable than anything Riley has accomplished. It was time to pass the baton awhile ago and we don’t need to see a slow decline from an aging Riley who is clearing having more trouble managing games properly as evidenced by the Hail Mary and numerous other bumbles. IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON. RILEY SHOULD RETIRE. IT IS BEST FOR THE UNIVERSITY.
Not really a fair comparison. The Sun Bowl had been kicked down a couple notches when Utah won it. Besides, politics and marketing can play more of a role in bowl placement than performance. 10 wins is what matters, and that’s a nice season.
Bottom line: Riley peaked in 06-09. Those seasons, despite their frustrations, were solid and each had a chance to be more. Since then we’ve been declining. ’12 was a nice season that is now looking like a clear outlier.
We have a balanced offense, but we ‘re calling plays like its an Air Raid. Sadly we have neither the personnel nor the play book for an air raid to function. Woods is playing great this year and we are not using him. Really hard to watch.
Riley has lost it with regard to play calling, and he has regressed in in-game management. Time to give Garrett a shot. Can’t be any worse. If we’re stuck with Riley for years to come he absolutely must recognize and delegate his weaknesses.
I think FireMR.com is still up for grabs… The guy that started that website was an absolute visionary! Nice to see a few contributing writers on Rivals including mama’s own hubby questioning Riley’s horrible play calling and that absolute fail leading to the Hail Mary. We can do so much better than Opie.
Go Beavs
Stanford would be scary if they had a legitimate QB. Hogan had a pretty good sophomore season but has regressed since. He’s holding Stanford back. Nearly has thrown 2 pick 6’s in the first quarter today. He stares down receivers constantly. If he throws at Steven Nelson when they play OSU, Nelson will have a monster game.
Colorado looking strong, their qb hangs in there delivers the ball well. He gets hit a ton though. Cal has the beaverjuice way too many penalties.
That was poor call on uw fumble return for td. Stanford ball carrier momentum looked stopped.
Colin Cowherd says he’s going first in the 2016 draft. That guy sucks too.

Arkansas doing the same to A&M.up 7 with 12minutes left
Going to be fun. All 7 SEC West teams in the Top 25. And since they all only play each other the rest of the way, the losses won’t knock them down as far.
Stanford looking awfully suspect this afternoon.
Stanford very unimaginable offensive play calling in the red zone.
Their defense is really, really good. QB play and brutal play-calling are the issues for them but those are big issues.
The Shaq Thompson fumble returned for a touchdown was a terrible no call too, that play should have been blown dead. What’s scary is that Washington is average competition and they couldn’t put them away.
UW players annoying, over-celebrating plays.
I hope we get some more 7:30 start times. Who doesn’t love eating their entire Saturday night watching one game?
Thanks Pac 12!
Are the Stanford-UW defense this good, or are these QBs this bad?
Stanford yes, Washington’s defense is not good whatsoever. Stanford moves the ball on them but then Hogan craps all over himself. Washington would be down double digits if Stanford had a good QB.
Peterson’s decision making leave a lot to be desired today. Bad spot to try a fake punt, and now making Stanford re-kick it and losing 20 yards of field position.
Stanford’s D is tackling great today.
Watching point spread move from 11 at the open, all the way down to 7.5 currently. That’s a huge move.
I’m Going on on a limb…or not. I’ve got no idea what will happen. OSU 27-24.
Utah up 21-0 on Wazzu in the first qtr. Utah with a pick six and punt return for a TD. Utah just might be a contender in the south this year. They aren’t going to be a gimme.
are they for real or not? they honestly haven’t played anyone good.
In the past, they’ve been much worse when playing on the road. If they look solid against UCLA (even if they don’t win that game), I’ll give them more credit
I feel bad for WSU fans down 21 nothing and you are not even out of the 1st qrt
let down after u of o or what?
Think Riley will open up the playbook, or is he too limited by WR inexperience?
Phil Steele’s breakdown for tonight:

as 2 wks ago traveling across the country off a big win over Stanford they were upset 37-
31 to BC. The Beavers are off a 28-7 win over SDSt as QB Mannion became the all-time
pass leader here (11,339). They had dominating 25-11 FD and 372-215 yd edges. Look for
the Trojans to get a bounce back win as my computer likes them to win by double digits.

Jailbreakbeav reporting from behind enemy lines. There are about 5 total OSU supporters here at the collesium. GO MF BEAVS!!!
Time out, time out, time out…
^No doubt.
This QB throws like crap. And look at all these throws that are just janky over the middle pass plays. So bad. It’s like every Mariotta TD.
3 straight USC false starts!
That was some GARBAGE coverage by that Mizzou corner. luckily that QB has the arm strength of a quadriplegic and it gave him plenty of time to recover.
So, so bad.
Okay expect no punt return yds tonight
Good stop good running plays by woods!
Good run by Storm. If the line can stick some blocks we can win this game.
I wish I knew what you guys were talking about, but ESPN is showing SEC post game. Like anyone cares what the Mizzu coach has to say
Wow, a run game…
Running the ball, this is madness!
http://www.streamking.org/channel2.html
Xavier Hawkins looking like he’s stuck in mudd. malcolm marable part 2
Horrible fly sweep to Hawkins, again time management not getting the personnel in on time.
We’re throwing to the RBs a lot. What’s up with that?
Crowd is nervous. Just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
The gameplan has been very conservative by Riley
Nice tackle by DJ. That speed. 3 and out, nice offense, USC.
And WTF was that punt return? Stephen Nelson back there, and did this crazy, 180 catch. I thought we’d lose the ball there for sure.
Buck Allen is tough. Without him, usc’s offense is really unimpressive
What are these telecasters talking about? Have they watched any OSU…?
Why would they watch OSU?
Yeah, these announcers are really bad. Fucking ESPN. If it isn’t an SEC team they haven’t heard of them.
USC is putting like 8 people in the box(Cheating a safety up) every time. Come on, throw the ball!
They just called Bolden a HR threat…
The way they described the LBs was pretty much the opposite of what they are.
Run up the middle, RB flare pass. What the fuck is this play calling? Throw the ball downfield already.
8 year hook route, Mannion stared at the receiver the entire time, pick 6.
Again, not throwing the ball downfield, USC stacking the box area. Going to be a long night if Riley forgot his balls in Corvallis.
I knew Mannion would throw Pick 6s in conference play. Dude should have had a bunch against PSU and Hawaii.
Did throw one against Hawai’i right?
The other shoe dropped….meh
Dang, twitter is about 10-15 seconds ahead of the online feed. Read about that pick 6 way before play even started.
Lets see running it is working, lets throw a pick 6…
I’m not sure OSU has the time to throw the ball deep. Mannion is getting a lot of pressure.
Sad thing is USC looks very beatable. Too bad we have DA2 at QB.
You think MANNION is the problem? Man, that’s insane. Not having a coach with testicles to throw the ball downfield a few times, not having a real offensive line…those are issues. The 2nd best QB in OSU history, not the issue.

MUrphy!!!!!!!! Poyer-ysch
WTF RYAN MURPHY TD KICK RETURN!!!
That’s like our 6th returner this year. What a run!
MURPHY!!!!
So far this has been well officiated. Best officiating I’ve seen in years… So far
They missed an early horse collar on ward, but otherwise agree
I think he brought him down by the jersey on that play, but it’s hard to tell. No replay.
“celebrating way after the end zone”
Thats a new one
So you can ride a horse onto the field, but can’t celebrate a td ?
First time Dylan Wynn does anything this year!
3rd and 18, throw a 7 yard pass.
Whom does that sound like? lol
Beavs look like the better team thus far.
Center snapped the ball before anyone else was ready, wtf.
Fucking offensive line, give Mannion some time. Also, Mannion not picking the zone apart.
That hit on the punt return was nasty.
Mannion is killing the team. USC is beatable.
How is that not a block in the back?
The receivers can’t get open, all passes are to the RB’s
Orange crush Defense though!
USC’s offense is pathetic.
…So is ours :(
What the hell is OSU doing? What a mess.
Playing great D so far but the substitutions and huddles are a mess.
HORSE SHIT!!! USC did the same frigging thing!!!
You fat fucking idiot. One untimed down and you jump.
They call the block in the back on OSU and not USC…
That’s what you all get for talking about how well the game had been officiated. 5 minutes into the first quarter.
Give our shitty refs time, they’ll show you their terrible consistency.
I never said that so don’t respond to my comment. I’ll never say the Pac-12 refs officiate a good game. They officiate for the school with bigger donors.
At least they called 3 consecutive false starts, something I’ve never seen the Nike refs do.(Yes this crew has been a Nike crew before).
Yup!
Next week is another Gameday in SEC country. Figures.
I kind of love it because everyone is wising up and turning their TVs off.
Mullaney, baller!!! Just went over the CB and got the ball.
Stretching the field is key.
Yep, opens everything else up.
There we go. Nice downfield pass, and excellent work to make the catch by Mullaney!
https://twitter.com/beaverkman/status/516067014369378305
That’s it K man.
Throw the ball deep, make USC back a safety off, then run up the middle. Crazy how that works!
There is some HITTING going on out there
Mullaney again! Also, nice PI on USC. Dude was just holding him until he turned.
Funny these telecasters keep saying Victor Bolden is a great WR and big loss. He’s okay but come on
Mugged in the end zone no flag
Seriously what was that…
6 Penalties in 18 minutes for us. This goddamn, shitty ass offensive line. Didn’t we recruit some decent linemen?
Jim Wilson just called it accurately, Ward, instead of going for an extra juke and a few yards, rather tends to lower into contact, tries to punish the tackler
Wait, the USC CD just tackled Mullaney before the pass. What was that?
Tipped
Was it? I hope so.
About time they call a penalty on these DBs. Holding all game.
Speaking of, what is with that announcer that can’t pronounce words? Victor BOWden, HOWding, etc.
The screens have not worked all night and Riley keeps throwing them over and over
Some awesome plays, but couldn’t get any real yards outside of two big Mullany catches.
Also, announcer informs us that we kicked a “Field Go.” No wonder he doesn’t know anything about OSU, he’s a downer from the south.
Ward is handing out concussions tonight.
Sark looks like he’s putting on weight already. A bit too comfy down there?
This is the type of game where Beavs tease us then USC athleticism breaks our back and takes it on home because we didn’t capitalize. Ring a familiar bell?
Aka Lucy pulls the football
Then Lucy Riley will say we’re gonna get back to work and learn from this.
Hey, a false start on USC!!
Frustratingly good catch, like Mullaney earlier. Good shutdown on the WR screen. We’re both calling the same crappy plays lol.
USC is gonna run away with it now.
How the hell is a RB wide open, uncovered? That’s the only thing they’re doing right now, WR screens and RB passes.
God dammit Banker.
Zimmerman rotated over with the motion, got stay discipline.
Nations best 3rd down D gives up a 3-9 and 3-13 on that td drive.
Stats mean little.
Indeed. 3 games in and considering the competition. Also doesn’t provide context for those 3rd downs. Something like a weighted 3rd down conversion would be useful.
Didn’t they throw a wheel route to that 280lb FB a few years ago? Beavs can’t cover that.
“Let’s not call it a pick”
Another good run, time to go throw the ball the next 5 plays
That was a ridiculous run. Storm is looking really good today.
RUN THE F***ING BALL
PENALTIES = COACHING
Time management again, delay of game. You can set your watch to it. #pathetic
“Mannion is off tonight.”
Yeah, playing 2000 miles away at 8 o’clock at night. Just stupid.
Wazzou came back and won?!?!
Yeah I was shocked. Very, very nice comeback for them. Props to Leach and co.
Leach
Mannion taking a LOT of hits. Not going to survive the season if this doesn’t get cleaned up.
That’s some bad luck there
Villamin the freshmen doesn’t go up at get it, Usc picks it in the endzone. I can stop watching now.
Heh, that interception is payback for the 2008 James Rodgers TD catch against USC.
Are you kidding me with the tip-INT.
Amazing. Fuck us. Can we try a deep throw that isn’t just “Sprint the sideline, throw up a 50-50 ball and hope our WR brings it in”? Like a mid post, or out-route, or…ANYTHING BUT A COINFLIP HAIL MARY!!!
That would require a receiver getting open and they can’t get open
WHY DONT WE RUN THE BALL DOWN THEIR THROAT. WE HAVE BEEN RUNNING IT GOOD. AND RILEY WONT STAY WITH IT AND NOW WE THROW ANOTHER PICK. STUPID FRIGGING COACHING, DID THEY NOT SEE THAT BC RAN FOR 452
They don’t have cable
Beavers receivers are getting no separation tonight. Only receiver making any plays is Mullaney. Painful watching other receivers
Throwing into coverage hoping your receiver comes down with it it not a good plan when your running backs are chewing up turf.
Imo Timber called it:
“…This is the type of game where Beavs tease us then USC athleticism breaks our back and takes it on home because we didn’t capitalize. Ring a familiar bell?…”
They will never truly be taught how to WIN a contest under Riley’s tenure.
Sean Mannion just realized that Brandin Cooks isn’t on the team any more.
Why are they tossing bombs into the endzone when runs, slants, and screens are working?
Mannion is very average vs good competition.
AGREE ANGRY, WHY NOT RUN AT THEM
We don’t throw slants. That’s been a complaint here since like 2009.
Mannion with no teammates and no coach looks very average against 8 NFL-caliber players.
They threw a nice 6 yarder to Mullaney.
I was wonder who the fuck he was throwing to and why there was no flag.
Why did it take them so long to throw that flag?
An inability to land a playmaker at wideout in the last couple years is being exposed tonight. Going from Wheaton and Cooks to this is not a good look for Riley but also not surprising.
WR is the least of their problems.
No timeout?…. -_-
Murphy’s Law, no pun intended. Good tackle, has to be helped off the field.
USC IS NOT A VERY GOOD TEAM BUT OUR COACHING (PLAY CALLING) WILL KEEP US FROM WINNING THIS GAME
More time management issues, why didn’t Riley take time out?
Probably afraid Mannion will toss INT #3
And there’s the ballgame.
I don’t get it at all. Now going to give USC a Hail Mary shot instead of forcing them to punt.
JUST. LIKE. THAT. No fucking way.
Banker standing there with his mouth open………… That about says it all.
Fuck.
unreal…
If Riley called a timeout, USC does not throw a hail mary. The guy is truly an idiot. Riley factor -14 this game.
Very sad. Wtf??? USC wants to lose this game!!
Humiliated by this coaching staff once again. In living color and brilliance.
OUR COACHING IS JR. HIGH LEVEL AT BEST
a time out saves a TD! They don’t attempt that with 40 sec left.
-14?
That’s just the first half.
Can someone please get a picture of that mark banker face and post it on here? I need it for my fantasy football team. Also, it should be the official flag for this blog.

The caption would say “dur…….”
Machado with some Tweet sarcasm…whoa there!!!
Brutal clock management AGAIN! Somebody needs to be fired for that play alone.
“Riley is a disaster and always will be. He’s almost 60”
The first sentence is true.
The second sentence is false. Mike Riley is 61+ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Riley
How ridiculous that a 5th year QB with 4 years of starting experience is the weakest link on the team tonight? Mannion looks scared, over-thinking.
Granted he has played with poise, but wr are not getting open, OL not protecting long enough.
First half grades:
I think that inside running stat counts sack yardage. Sack yardage counts as a QB rush in college. In NFL it counts as lost team passing yardage.
That was my only explanation. And if so, that’s really stupid.
And the dean of P12 coaches is outsmarted again. And note to Banker, if they’re going to throw the Hail Mary maybe you should rush more than 3 so the QB doesn’t have all day to throw it.
Maybe Riley cashes in timeouts for free, bike-tire-pressure checks?
Shit, I switched over to the Mariner game because I thought the first half was over and I come back to this shit??? And a word for Garrett or Riley or whoever the hell calls plays…the world won’t end if you run the ball three times in a row! Boston College just lost to Colorado State, but somehow rushed for 450 yards against USC.
They had 5 downs. Intentional grounding was a loss of down on second down
Ref announced down wrong. They got 4, should’ve been second, not third kike they said
No it was right. First down was a long pass play that was knocked away by Zimmerman. Second down was intentional grounding. Third down was incomplete. 4th down was a short ppass. Fifth down was hail mary.
I just rewatched, it was first down, espy switch to 2 & 10 immediately. No conspiracy theory, unless it about Riley betting on the beats to lose.
WHY IS IT ALWAYS SARK
Had we run the ball instead of throwing into the endzone on our drive we probably would’ve eaten enough clock to prevent this. Would be 14-13 instead of 21-10.
Mark Banker thought of a new way to show he should be fired.
Mike Riley is inept at in-game coaching and it shows every single week. Main reason I had zero hope for a win tonight
They keep talking about how OSU poorly defended that Hail Mary pass and got boxed out by the USC receivers. That’s true, but none of them are talking about how the play should have never happened in the first place.
commentary is all about the low-hanging fruit
DEFENSE IS NOT OUR PROBLEM. PLAY CALLING IS THE REASON WE ARE LOSING. WE HAVE RAN THE BALL WELL AND RILEY WILL NOT STICK WITH IT.
WHY NOT KEEP RUNNING??????
Ortiz wouldn’t have fumbled the ball if his head wasn’t being ripped off. Also I think his butt was on the ground first, but whatever.
Bad things are going to happen when you throw the ball to Ricky Ortiz.
Indeed. Anderson is a beast. Ortiz seems like garbage. Didn’t he fumble in one of our first games this season?
This is why many teams don’t use a FB anymore. Dead position, dead weight.
Pretty much unless you have a Larry Centers type. Anderson was in that mold and fairly useful. This Ortiz character stinks.
Put in a 2nd string qb. Please.
I doubt it would matter. There is literally no one getting open right now.
New drinking game. Any time you hear “Mannion almost picked off” Chug.
There isn’t one receiver open, except the safety valve, Mannion is going to be forcing every pass into coverage.
Man, what is Mannion doing. NFL beware.
How the hell do you guys know nobody is getting open? Unless you’re at the game with a bird’s eye view. We literally see 5% of the field on any given pass.
Because they have been told that Mannion is a great qb.
Angie Machado (@AngieMachado1) tweeted at 9:41 PM on Sat, Sep 27, 2014:
Let’s stop throwing the ball. Mannion looks scared out there. Run game is working why deviate from it?
Mamma Machado getting flustered with Riley = end days
Who hijacked that Twitter account?
Del Rio or Rd Vanderveen would likely just play the game. Mannion’s playing against himself as well, and losing.
Wonder how many times we get told tomorrow how lucky OSU fans are to have Riley as a coach. 500 times is the minimum
IM SO SICK OF THIS SHIT. RUN THE BALL
Why run the ball when it works. That makes no sense
USC is just waiting to pick these passes every play now. Remember when we were running the ball?
They’ll probably pick 2 more.
That zone defense is giving Mannion fits.
Run the ball! Three incomplete passes.
ESPN has butchered 3 of our receivers’ names tonight. Hunter Jaymon?
This is the worst crew on espn which says a lot. Espn blows
Not to mention, they called the Trojan receiver with #4 DJ Alexander.
3 PASSES AND PUNT NICE PLAY CALLING. HOW DID BC BEAT USC. I THINK IT WAS 452 YDS RUNNING OVER THE TOP OF THE TROJANS. FUCK RILEY!!!!!
3 poor passes and out. Clearly Riley has given up, and Mannion is rattled.
We’re done. I don’t see any way we win this. The shit streak continues in the coliseum
WE HAVE THE TALENT. WE DONT HAVE THE COACHING
It was over with the Pick-6 to be honest, then nail in the coffin was the hail mary. Now the only reason to watch is to see how bad Riley messes up and how many INTs Mannion throws.
We’re 5 minutes into the 3rd Q and the offense has 3 points.
So this team has one receiver?
Yeah and he has a broken finger.
Fucking cocky Sark.
You blame him with OSUs offense?!? Why not?
Defense starting to look gassed from offense not chewing up clock
And that’s all the depth the D line had.
Done.
Peko here he comes!
That would be awesome to see Peko come running into the stadium, paperwork in hand. Peko! Peko! Peko!
Any stats shown on this low- budget broadcast?
All day for Kessler to throw. Game over.
Why has Obum been playing WR for 3 seasons?????
Coaches thought they could teach him to catch the ball.
Beavs dropping like flies. Forget the game, the season is in the balance.
Need this upcoming offensive drive to last 10+ plays and give the defense a break.
don’t recruit cal. the players we get don’t believe they belong on the field with stanford, usc, or ucla.
They are correct.
WE’VE SEEN RILEY’S BEST; MOVE ON!
Obum blocked that fg
It didn’t occur to the idiot announcers that the trajectory of that attempt might have indicated a block?
Time for Villamin to play defense.
Villamin might have to move to DE next spring; not his senior year.
87 yds rushing for Woods/ Ward. Mannion just 13-27 for 104 yds.
Riley gave up, Mannion gave up, and now the defense has given up.
I give up. G’night.
Defense is falling apart. Grimble, Alexander, are out. Toke and Hautua hurt.
Hautau looks so overweight and slow.
Eggers saying Alexander has left game with injury too. We’re gonna limp into Colorado next week and get beaten by USC again
Mannion has looked like a deer in the headlights all night.
I can hear Riley now: “There’s some good stuff we can take from this game, we’ll do that and regroup for Utah.”
He’ll work a ‘deal’ in there somewhere
Glad I went out instead of watching this. Watching the hail mary highlight is hilarious. A lot of delusional people out there if they thought OSU actually stood a chance in this game.
DEFENSE IS WORE OUT BECAUSE OF THE INEPTENESS OF THE OFFENSE. THE OFFENSE SUCKS BECAUSE OF POOR PLAY CALLING. RILEY SUCKS BUT HE’S A NICE GUY
and because 3 D lineman have gone down to injury. OSU is soft
Mulaney with 5 catches for 78 yds and Woods with 3 for 15. Nobody else has a catch for more than 6 yds.
Love how they just said Kessler made that play with his mobility when Johnson just wiffed the tackle.
Good time for the return of the flailbacker.
I saw him bust through the line unblocked, and I thought sweet, he’s gonna clobber, …wiff
Get Del Rio some reps now!
Riley won’t embarrass Manion that way.
Hey look at that, running could still work
No.
Incomplete passes work.
Another screen pass that gets stuffed.
Get used to it broseph. That’s exactly how it is.
I’ve been a fan long enough to know nothing will probably change. I still have faith that Riley will fuck up something so badly that it will force a change in the guard and I’m hoping that is exactly what happened tonight. Tall order, I know..
Yeah, I don’t know, we’re pretty broken.
This was a fucking disgrace about which nothing will be done.
Alexander is in the game so we have that small victory.
And some of you thought OSU had a chance to win this game? LMFAO! Whiskey called this one.
Whiskey fuckin nailed that one.
I said 24-13
whiskey soaked napkins says:

Some of you are just delusional. Denial. Not just a river in Eqypt. HOW MANY TIMES have we all been lifted up, only to have it come crashing down on us???? USC wins this game. Easily. They’ve had 2 weeks to prepare for that ass kicking they got at BC. Fools
http://angrybeavs.com/media/10430#bottom
However I also thought we’d lose to SDSU. This team is average at best.
USC definitely deserves this win but our special teams and defense have played well (other than the atrocious Hail Mary). Our offense has just been awful. If they had played better we definitely could have won. I don’t think it was so crazy to think it was possible.
Bad call here, he either doesn’t have possession. Or if he did, then that’s an illegal forward pass, not a second fumble.
I had to turn it off.
It’s 4th and 4. HAIL MARY!
Only prolonging our agony.
So this team has no receivers.
Stop fooling yourself, take out all the worthless skinnies…replace them with any handy big motherfucker and run the ball.
Works for navy.
Does anyone else imagine Henry Winkler in the early part of waterboy when thinking of Riley right now?
It seems like every other P-12 team is getting better, I don’t think there is a gimme on the schedule anymore. Will Riley be held accountable if it falls apart this year?
Short answer, NO!
At this point, I’m forecasting 5th in the Pac-North. I see us beating WSU but even that’s not a gimme any longer.
Did anyone just see that camera shot of Riley? His face was literally like “well.. what do you do?! At least I won’t get fired!”
WSU will jam it up this offense’s Ass and break off the handle.
Wazzu came back from down 21 to beat Utah today. Has a Riley team ever come back from that kind of a hole before?
LOL WSU will own.
Offense matching down the field on USC penalties…Mannion’s throwing lkke shit. Sit him.
Offense has more yds via USC penalties than they have on their own in the second half
Did Riley do that on purpose so they would have to punt?
I don’t think so. Been slow to get play calls in all night. Mannion getting almost every snap off with less than 5 seconds on the clock. This is happening with everyone running to line of scrimmage. Usc can predict snap count in this situation and pin their ears back. With a bad o line, snap count is our only advantage and a poor job of getting play calls in is marginalizing that advantage.
Riley’s WTF look on 4th and 4 followed by delay of game…sick of him.
What happened to the great tight ends, who were supposed to be a strength this year? They can’t get any separation either. Too much Izzy’s buffet? I bet Smith has more penalty yards than receiving yards this season.
Smith was tough after the whistle on several plays…
Beavs had best drive of the half here. Pass play every down. Almost all completions and almost all yards of the drive via penalty.
*incompletions
+2 on that song girl’s boobs though….get it: “+2?!?”
Down three scores with 9 minutes to go. Better punt
John Garrett for interim coach!
All in favor?
I
Or I’d take Lyle Moevau too
Jonathan Smith?
I too. Time for a New Hope.
“These are not the 5 star recruits you are looking for”
Not if he’s the one calling the plays tonight.
Wow.
Can we see Vanderveen now?
Leach?
We are being manhandled!
I can’t believe I’m saying this but, Read has been the bright spot tonight.
Del Rio and Brown now in
Wow, Del Rio isn’t the answer.
Riley needs to go Last Samurai and fire himself in shame.
If Del Rio has passed Vanderveen on the depth chart then the Beavers will be lucky to win 3 games next year.
Del Rio throwing at ghost receivers.
Why are all the defensive starters in still?
Is Riley trying to beat Erickson’s record for most personal fouls in one game?
Losing organizational control
We #Riley’d it
Well… damn, and fuck.
No offensive touchdowns.
Goodbye Riley.
It’s been real.
It’s been fun.
Can’t say it’s been real fun.
But if he can get 3 more wins, add another year to his contract..
This travesty is why BDC must be canned. Massari can’t be any worse and appears to be capable. He can take over and find a new Head Coach after this year or next. 15 years is too much time. Oregon State needs new leaders at Football HC & AD.
I think Riley needs to hand off play calling duty to Garrett now.
Del Rio/Vanderveen = Mannion/Katz 2.0?
’15 and ’16 will be LONG seasons without a new HC.
This team represents Riley’s best and last chance to get to a meaningful bowl game.
IT IS BEST FOR THE UNIVERSITY.
we need to start a protest or something to get riley fired
You know what’s sad?
Riley’s best team was the 10-win Sun Bowl team.
Utah got a Sun Bowl win their first year in the Pac-12.
