  1. They actually played Oregon pretty well through 3+ quarters this year, but the floodgates gave way when they had to start playing catchup on offense and turned the ball over frequently.

OSU actually had success vs Sitake, but the last 2 games were double overtime which inflates the numbers

  2. Hoping we can get guys like Star Lotulelei and other Tongan or Islander guys who can play D. Wondering how good those Utah teams were on offense? Were they able to hold the ball and give the D time to rest. Everyone knows OSU couldn’t do that…

  3. So the one guy who is really getting screwed by Riley leaving is Pensyl, and he’s also one of the few guys Riley hasn’t extended an offer to. I guess he was technically a Garrett guy, but he also shut down his recruiting because he was committed to our school, and now Riley won’t give him the time of day

    • Maybe Andersen is telling them to look elsewhere. We really don’t know the story. He probably wants players that fit his system. Sucks he only has a month to find some, but I think between Utah and Wisconsin this staff will load up on some guys they were recruiting.

      • Yeah, I liked Baber. Hope he can replace or upgrade these losses. Wonder if any QB may come with McGiven to factor into the mix for next year. Since he and Baldwin were OCs and Sitake a DC they each should be able to swing a couple guys to Oregon State. Just as easy on other end so hope we start seeing some decommits from Wisconsin, Utah, Colorado St and Utah St interested in the Beavers.

  4. So far we are plus one 2-star guy and minus how many others?

Depending on how the next 6 weeks go maybe we’ll have something to be angry about sooner rather than later… Not judging yet, just saying that’s the next big thing to judge!

    • I hope not… I think we might catch back up this month, i pretty sure we our still in the no contact period if I am not mistaken… And Anderson has offered several other guys, some look pretty good… We’ll see though

  5. Looking above, Sitake has stunk vs the Arizona schools and Oregon. Nobody else is nervous about it? 1-10 with some ugly points allowed. Why does GA think he knows how to slow the read option and is worth 800k?

    • I figured Andersen saying he wanted Sitake more than Aranda was just coach speak to cover that Aranda decided to stay at Wisconsin.

Is there a team that has contained the Ducks? Even Michigan State got blown out. He hasn’t done great against Arizona but he’s held them to their average ppg.

If you watched OSU vs Oregon and compare it to Utah vs Oregon you’ll see a huge difference. Oregon scored at will on OSU and then let up on us. Utah was in the game but ultimately couldn’t compete 4 full quarters. Even though Utah gave up more points, their D was overall much better than ours I would say.

      • That makes sense. But this guy was being portrayed as a world beater. He gave up 34 and 35 points to CO 49 to WSU and 51 to OSU. I just see a lot of 30 and 40 point games on that sheet for a DC making 800k.

        • The one thing I’ve liked about Utah, and I’ve said this for years, is they always play tough and physical. They will punch you in the mouth. Especially on defense. I’m looking forward to seeing our defense do that

        • I think a big part of his appeal was more the recruiting connections he made. Supposed to be really tight with the Poly community in Utah and Hawaii.
I only watched Utah vs OSU and Oregon last year. I did like that they played with aggression and hit hard, but yeah, the numbers don’t indicate they were any more successful than many of the other Pac defenses. Maybe with better players, they’d take it up a notch, but it’s going to be a while before they can bring in enough better players to OSU to see those results.

    • I’m definitely nervous about it. I can’t figure out why the guy is considered such a great hire. And his results are with some talented D lines, correct?

To take UO as an example, there’s only a few teams that have ever really slowed them down. Cal (in a loss), Stanford obviously. Auburn? I think expectations against teams like that have to be different; holding them in the high 20’s is probably significant, v. holding a pro-set team to 10 points.

I think there will be plenty left to write about here….

      • Unless this guy is an all world recruiter, i think osu overpaid. 1-11 vs those teams with high scores doesn’t justify 800k. I am not buying that it was because Utah just joined the conference. They were 9-4 THIS year and still gave up 42 and 51 to arizona and oregon.

I am wondering if he’s even an upgrade over banker now. He has to be, right?

        • “They were 9-4 THIS year…” is the key phrase in your statement. I could really careless about the margin of victory in losses, especially when we all know that they were in the Oregon game for 3 quarters in Eugene, AND keeping in mind how good Oregon is.
Stop nit picking man! Would you not complain if they paid only $700,000? $600,000? Keep the big picture in mind here buddy.

        • Banker must be an upgrade since Zony scored a big fat zero points against us this year.

          Woo hoo!

That’s right. The 45 we gave up to Cal is better than 42 to some lousy team not even in California, let alone not called California.

And at least we didn’t lose to Wazzu when that Halliday kid was playing. THAT would have been really embarrassing. Neener neener Utah!

          • And that 51 “given up” to Nikegon included Nikegon’s first score, the 100 yard fumble recovery, and their last score, a one play ten yard drive.

Compare that to Nikegon’s drives of 70, 60, 70, 80 and 70 yards… and losing to them 30-0… with ten minutes left in the first half.

  6. I think the fact that our offense will be more similar to ones we r seeing in conference will help our defense in itself. You have to take into consideration their are only a handful of teams to beat Oregon since chip took over. How has Stanford beat them three times and Arizona beat them twice since then. I don’t feel as though its talent and i know banker sucked against the spread o. We just need to figure out what these teams are doing that is working.

  7. I’m looking forward to the sacks….led the nation with 55…..55!!! If GA can find a balance in between and get the Beav defense looking like Utah’s ala first quarter against UO, then Beavers will be great and be number #1 D in the league….I’ll settle for top 4 in the league with the excitement of more sacks and forced fumbles, ect….would be a good start….that kind of intensity is not sustainable week in and week out in the PAC however and I do expect a game or two where the D may not be up to par, but hopefully disciplined offense/special teams can pick up the slack.

  8. As Jack has said, the quality of defense across NCAA DI football has degraded. Couple that with the offenses, the way holding isn’t called…we have to expect higher scores.

And run the ball. And force a few turnovers because team’s like UO can score so quickly, a few opportunities need to be taken away.

If Andersen implements as diverse an offense as he’s indicated, and varies the pace, OSU should be competitive again and difficult to defend. The D will be blitzing for sacks and negative plays if Sitake history is any indication, but risk of that is giving up the big plays and high scores.

Hopefully Andersen can make Sitake more effective. Wasn’t Andersen the Utah D coordinator when they beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl? It will be interesting to see how Andersen tempers the work of his assistants. I thought he said he’d be hands off, but Sitake is also his “Assistant Head Coach.”

    • I hope Andersen can groom him…GA seems to want to mentor this guy. I hope so, because after hearing his interview I’m less impressed. Agree anyone is better than Banker, though.
