First game thread of the Gary Andersen era, bitches! Let the party start early.
Not much to add. I’m changing my 46-13 prediction to 45-13 because 46 is a tough number to get.
Go Beavs.

Haven’t been this excited for beaver football in a very long time! IM SO PUMPED!!!
Beavers playing an FCS on a network nobody east of Sacramento gets… meh.
Reports that the Hooters in Miami carries the p12 network, but am concerned this report comes from airhead with big knockers
I’ll go down and check and let everyone know.
42-16 good guys. MM starts, does well, Collins plays, dazzles with his feet. beavs roll.
38-17 Beavs Marcus starts, we’ll receive and we’ll score on the first drive in 3 minutes or less
Can’t believe there isn’t more buzz about this photo – even if the Browns lost by a bunch.
https://instagram.com/p/7MfSGEnDBk/
Quizz and Wynn. Who are the others?
33 = Jordan Poyer – thus a 3-person OSU reunion.
I’m stuck in traffic on I-5 and its raining!!
Yay for the rain! It’s been nice for the last week not seeing my yard dry up and turn to dust with the three months of no rain.
Beavs lose to another FCS school and nothing changes. Riley and his supporters say “told you so.”
27-14 Weber State
lol
Since you are pro MR, you should be listening to CBS College Sports Radio if you can find it…….a Nebraska caller just called in and said….”the one thing that EVERYONE in the country agrees on is that Mike Riley is an extremely intelligent football coach, he will find a way to beat BYU”.
Not sure who EVERYONE is, but it doesn’t include me. I always thought he was, generally, a little slow on the pickup and definitely not the sharpest tool in the box as a coach.
He was smart enough to get a neat deal out of BDC and OSU, so that’s something I guess
52-13 Beavs win, and both qbs look good, but Collins shows a special it factor that’ll propel him to lock the spot up vs michigan
Weather Underground says rain done at 5:00. No wet balls!
Work blows. Had to skip the game and watch from home. GoBeavs. Looks like it’s wet down there on periscope.
Keep those balls dry.
Same here, I work 11p game night, but work is almost 2 hours from Reser.
Run the damn ball!!!!!!
I would take it easy on Weber St. just run vanilla offense, try and play everyone, serve ice cream sundaes to the team at half time, you know, relax. It’s a gimmee. JB
Gina tweeted: Taking warm-up snaps from starting center Josh Mitchell is…Seth Collins.
I was hoping MCM was going to be the starter, but let’s see how they both perform. I hope MCM wins it after at least the Michigan game.
A few early mistakes but then full on kick ass football on both sides. Reser will be rockin’! 38-10. The new era begins baby!!! God I can’t believe it’s here. Beers are on ice and wings are cookin’!
God I love football.
Cheers to a great season guys!
Go Beavs!
Freshmen can perform…..it may not last but a bunch of frosh at SMU on offense are rolling all over Baylor right now. 14 points in the first 7 minutes….last year 0 points and 67 total yards for the whole game. Let’s see some of the same for the Beav freshmen.
Experience is one of the most overrated things. It’s a nice luxury, but hardly a requirement if the players have the right mindset. I said this before the last basketball season as well, and that team played well, and also with the baseball team, and they did just fine. Experience = overrated.
How many dual-threat underclassmen have torched the Beavs over the last few years? I’ve lost count.
Go Beavs!
Football!
Rathbone just tweeted that the stadium is 30% full…not good.
Small town 5:00 pm, no time to travel in. What can you expect really, just more conference and TV screwing us again ho hum
Weird vibe here at the stadium. Doesn’t feel very exciting as there are not a lit fans here due to the Friday kickoff. Very strange feeling…
It looks awful on TV.
This is why I said playing at PSU would not be a bad idea. If you have 30% of capacity, is that worse than playing at PSU? They should schedule game 1 vs a cupcake each year up there. Give PSU a cut of the gate. Everyone wins. I’d rather see the Beavs playing at PSU with 80%-100% capacity than Reser at 30%. This is just pathetic.
Edit: you’d hope people trickle in. The 5:10 start is awful.
22-10 Beavs. Kicker is our MVP.
you called it
Less than ideal weather, game before school starts, and right at the start of a long weekend when everyone is traveling elsewhere is combining to leave this crowd a tad sparse tonight.
Where are the fans?
I-5
They got rid of the stupid inflatable helmet. Excellent.
42-10 OSU
Good thing we only have 1 visitor tonight
When did the PAC12 Network hire Louis Farrakhan as a sideline reporter?
This Wilkes bowling ball guy could be the nobody who puts up 5tds haha. Looked just like Riley and Banker gashing the D on that fake.
D looked pretty good! Nice sack and batted pass. Peko exists.
Did we win yet? Please?
Collins can’t throw.
Beavs lines are both winning the battle. Should be fine once McM gets in there.
Knee jerk first reaction, Collins can’t throw, Michigan rolls in the big house.
“Michigan rolls in the big house.”
What about Man Crush McMaryion, idiot.
Passing 2 for 3 negative yards
Nice open field tackle…things do look different from a riles/banker d
Beavs can tackle now. Nice open field tackle by Soalo.
That was very nice. Definitely looked different. Under Riley you see one tackle like that per year. Strong made a great tackle right before that, too.
My guess is there is 30k here.
Is the analyst getting on anyone elses nerves, talks too much.
It’s unfortunate how they’re using Nall — he looks so big and slow at RB at this weight.
I’m not impressed with the play of the OL
Strength of the team, no real holes yet on any of the straight ahead plays
Weber St seems to know everything coming. Wonder if this is vanilla play calling + Hill knowing GA’s tendency.
And not a lot of protection on pass plays.
Collins throwing it better on this drive.
Woods runs tentatively on 4th and 1 almost waiting to get hit and tackled. Stuffed.
There was no push from the o-line either. Embarassing play.
Mike Riley would have called a better 4th down play.
A fly sweep would’ve been decent there.
He’s sure no Melvin Gordon. I’d let Seth run most of the ones inside a yard if that is the best the backs are gonna do.
They want to minimize Collin’s hits. But I agree, he should have done a sneak there
as the game went on Brown got far more touches than Storm
One of the things the Utah announcers talked about what the Michigan game was the first in a long time where the Utah D got no sacks.
I can’t wait to see McM run the offense. I expect we’ll see more passing, and that will open the run.
Weber St does not look awful.
Gonna have to complete some passes to open it up a bit.
McM threw a great ball to Villamin, he could have made that catch. Weber was awful last year, HIll must be doing some good things.
O-line isn’t holding shit.
Picking up food on way home. Reading comments. Scared.
Feels like a matter of time before there’s a defensive score.
Scared Straight?
Scared Fabulous, Honey
There’s the missed tackle
No Beav penalties in Q1, defense is playing hard and smart so far. DeCoud looks like a great pick up. That trick play was a TD against many a Riley team.
I’ve seen more open field tackling this game than any entire year under the previous staff, that’s a positive.
QBs aren’t being sacked repetitively, that’s a positive.
Getting some runs going, yeah, not so good.
Well President Ray,
Right now it would be generous to say Oregon State has brought its C- game. :(
I’ll say it again,,,, I’M NOT IMPRESSED WITH THE PLAY OF THE OL
Only 1 for 4 on third down conversion for Beavs in q1
That pass was a TD, good penalty by Weber player
No rush yds for bolden in q1
Whew. Victory.
Well it only took 3.5 hrs to get here!
O line has no push but decent pass protection.
MM should have run hard for the sticks and not try a fake pump there.
He could have just stayed in the pocket and waited for someone to come open. Frosh panic.
Isaac is playing tentatively. It’s part of the problem with the Oline. I’ll watch more closely next drive.
Rusty
No Isaac.
Trombone
The QB situation is pretty much what I thought. McM throwing nice balls and a pass threat; Collins throwing poorly but a run threat. I’d go with McM and mix Collins in on running downs.
It may end up being a long year with this offense but the D is soooooooo much better prepared and coached. It amazing to see the difference in tackeling and fundamentals.
The offense doesn’t look far off to me. Just slight timing and accuracy issues. I think this can be fixed within weeks if not less. Maybe by the end of the game. Some of this is nerves, too, and when that settles we should see better O.
Much more aggressive.
I was hoping for more of a run game. Jack shit so far.
When was the last time we saw a Beaver DB break up a flanker screen? They were usually 9 yards off of the line of scrimmage under “Jive Hands Banks”.
AIR COLLINS!!
I like to see the reply when holding is called on the offense. Is the P-12 protecting the officials?
Storm look slower to you guys?
It’s the extra letters on the jersey.
I was just going to say another supposed strength of the team….running backs…….looks off so far. Slowish, missed holes, missed blocks….was that Woods who ran right past the blitzer who nailed Collins?
Storm looks like shit. One of those last runs up the gut he could have gone left, he could have gone right, instead he went straight ahead right in to the back of his own line.
Then he was supposed to pick up one of those blitzers that got StS and instead he ran into his own guy again.
Way to go Bruce Reid! Oh wait nevermind
Nice hustle on the punt!
I know the announcers are infatuated with “Air Collins” hurdling, but when he is in there the field shrinks — the D only has to defend 15 yards, so they can take more risk. I don’t like the flow with Collins in there. It’s one step forward, two back for the O because he can’t throw.
Not Collins fault that the Oline held and negated the 2 best plays of the last drive.
You can see why he was recruited as a WR.
Peko gets it in the nuts.
Hopefully that’s all that it is. Easy for me to say, eh? :-)
LOL. Sure is.
Defense looks better than offense but still has plenty of work to do. Not overly sold on Baldwin’s offensive style yet. I was part of the group that preferred Andy Ludwig to bring more of a Wisconsin style.
How is it working for Andy Ludwig at Vandy? He has not been better than average anywhere, anytime.
Is Weber State playing super disciplined defense? Or is Our misdirection just terrible?
We’re in a defensive struggle with Weber State. This might be a loooooonnnng year!
Very surreal to not see Biley chewing gum and hand jiving up and down the sidelines. Obligatory sentimental tear figuratively running down my cheek.
Radio is saying the doctor/trainers are checking Peko’s left shoulder/arm
That would be an ultimate Luck O da Beav’s.
He was holding his limp arm as he walked off…
Crap
I would have rather that he was holding his nuts. If you know what I mean.
Strings of holding calls and drives ending with field goals. I hope it’s just that old Riley smell hanging around the apartment and they haven’t finished repainting yet
Was there supposed to be blocking on that Collins run or is misdirection supposed to create the opening? There were three unblocked Weber defenders ready to tackle Collins.
Optimistically, maybe ga is saving his filthy stuff for Harbaugh
Andersen is fucking pissed
Fuck I guess.
Good.
Riley would be taking it out on his Doublemint.
Well golly Gee, that wasn’t a very good a half a football. We just need to go inside and talk about a few things and well shucks I hope we play better in the second half.
GA takes a shot at MR. Not a happy guy.
They really should be up 21-0 minimum, he should be pissed at the offense.
Btw, I didn’t know Weber State was in Utah. I figured it was in New Mexico or Canada or maybe Guam
P12 network is so edumacational
Defense looks like they are determined to play. Offense can’t see to seal off the edges they need to in this offenense, hence the penalties and lack of yards going to the outside. I think McM is a better choice right now, but I’m surprised at not seeing more bubble screens and short routes to get the ball in our receivers hands… Maybe we are not showing the entire playbook for Michigan?
I thought the same thing, but fuck we need to win this game before even fucking worry about Michigan.
Welp, that was disappointing.
Cancel the sundaes at half time. They will win, but unimpressively…yawn. JB
I thought we’d see more bubble screens on offense.
Just because the o line has experience, it does not make them any good. Why do you think they brought in two jc guys late? Coaches watched film from last year. This is why the staff made such a huge deal about strength and weight lifting in the off season. O line , no line.
Am I blind, or are these telecasters way off base? I thought McM was the superior QB. He got fewer reps, but he would have had a long TD pass were it not for the PI, and was 2/3 otherwise and looked good throwing. Collins looked bad throwing. A QB has to throw. What am I missing?
McM didn’t jump over a defender.
Yup. Hurdling is critical to play the position.
Hurdling will eventually get McM the QB job and Mitchell as his back up.
Excellent point.
AIR COLLINS!!!!1oneOMG
“The hurdle” is the new “the kidney”…
“flashy athleticism”
The hype of that play and we are not talking top of line analysts at the P-12 network.
When is the last time a Beaver D held anyone (no matter the division) to 76 yards total offense? Just need to punch it in the end zone a couple of times. I’d take a 27-0 win, with a dominating defensive performance. Need to score on the first drive of the half to get this going in the right direction, maybe a turnover or two on D.
Beavs only 1for 7 third down conversion at half. I believe that was one of baldwins goals to increase that conversion rate.
All the talk about off season conditioning caused me to have my hopes up and think the OL could carry the offense until the QBs got some experience. The way the play has gone so far I’m not so hopeful. Thank goodness the Beavs aren’t playing a big school in this first game.
Watch out guys, I sat too close to the TV while the broadcasters were talking about Collins and got some spooge on me. Gonna have to hit that with some Shout
Collins has to hot of a head, I think it’s the youthfulness. Needs to slide.
A few more hits like that and we won’t have any QB controversy.
OPEN THE FLOODGATES SWEEP THE LEG NO MERCY FINISH THEMMMM
Get them a body bag !!!
How about just a cremation?
Offense look more comfortable that series. I think it’s because they picked up the tempo
You could see Baldwin getting pissed that they weren’t going fast enough. Brown needs to get a little tougher, he should have pounded through that leg tackle.
Weber State D is well coached.
Oregon State O is, well… coached? Anyone know?
Did you see Nall put that dude on his ass? The play before his run he must have been lead blocking and absolutely cleaned some poor fucker.
What’s with all these longer names?
Bolden –> Bolden Jr
Woods –> Barrs-Woods
Scott –> Scott III
Black guys also have longer names.
I don’t think they got any more black over the offseason
@A_Jude: Browning is the first true freshman QB to ever start an opening for @UW_Football and first true freshman Chris Petersen has played at QB.
Was that FG tipped?
Looked like it to me.
Idiot telecasters didn’t seem to notice as the play was happening.
yes
Any news on Peko?
Sideline radio reporter said he asked a coach about injuries and got a vanilla response like everything is O.K. but the reporter didn’t ask specifically about Peko.
I’ve been watching trying to see if he’s been in in the 2nd half and haven’t seen him but then the cameras don’t spend a lot of time on the DL.
Are we saving McMaryion for Michigan? Collins is not an impressive thrower, and running can only get you so far.
Seth Collins can’t throw. Even his pass to Bolden was a wobbly spiral. Harbaugh is probably laughing watching this.
The media will be up in his jock, though. It’s a very bizarre dynamic.
Collins threw for essentially same yardage as mcm for 1st half.
…and Collins didn’t throw pik six.
On 3rd down Jim Wilson said intended receiver was not the primary and that STG dumped because of rush. Looked to me like he locked onto the rec’vr from the start.
That was a Riley-esque three and out. If those are called roll out passes, they condense the field and limit options. I want to see McM back in there and better pass play calling.
Me too. Good to see 99 back in.
facepalm :(
Finally a Beav QB throws a TD!
Looks like we have no QB….
Collins looks happy lol
Watching that horrible decision by McM in slow-mo I’m on the AIR COLLINS bandwagon toot toot!
Shitty play call by Baldwin, imo.
Thank you. Thought the same.
McM isn’t more than a marginally better throw than Seth at best. Maybe 5% better. Let’s drop the he can throw and Seth can’t schitck.
Safe to say we won’t be able throw to comeback in games
Damn Mcmarion can really sling it LOL. Very stupid play call though IMO
That was a stupid play call from your own five yard line with a rookie QB who didn’t even look like he noticed the receiver was blanketed. You either run the ball out of there or you throw a bomb to Villamin or Bolden.
Villamin was giving a defender a piggy back ride on that play. Dude was literally on his back.
that’s awful to bench mcmaryion for that
Agree
Maybe but it was the wise move in the moment. 6 point game entering serious crunch time.
So much for Andersen’s statement about not pulling a guy for a mistake. I’m on the “bad play call” bandwagon like some others here.
Couldn’t afford any more of a momentum shift. Am fine with the decision.
And the play call?
Agree – and in one of GA’s interviews he said the worst thing you could do is pull one of the QB’s if they made a mistake.
That was BS, Andersen said he would not pull the quarterback when he makes a mistake.
That was a pretty big stupid mistake
To call that play as well.
Was it Andersen or Baldwin?
Baldwin
Collins staring down the receiver.
#50. The second coming of Mike Remmers. Same number and all. Fuck me
Offensive line is KILLING this game
Seth is clearly better.
The Beavs have a QB, his name is Darrel Garrettson, but he’s a year away.
Don’t mind the new piece of wood with OSU on it they are passing around but why did they mount a football to it like a strap on dong?
I think switching qb every two series is bad idea. Let one play a half or until he’s struggling, then switch.
I wish they switched. They have given Collins almost every series.
Is that not PI?
I’m actually shocked Collins has gotten so many more opportunities and replaced McM after that one bad throw (granted, it was bad). Collins literally cannot throw the ball against a competitive defense. When he plays a decent defense they are going to send the house every time and he’s going to get killed. I was really hoping to see McM get an actual shot at the starting job to see if we could get a guy that could actually pass as the starting QB. Hopefully Baldwin knows better and I’m wrong but I think we’ll be lucky to get 4 wins this season.
That’s exactly right. I am shaking my head watching this…
And the fools falling for Collins because he’s athletic. If Collins starts all year, I’m moving us down to 3 wins. His game is very predictable, and frankly, brutal to watch.
If Collins played all game, he might have 180 yds rushing and 120 passing.
They played for the FG against a lower division team because they can’t trust him to throw on 3rd and long.
Yet they won’t put in the guy who threw a 30-40 yard pass right on the money…that PI call might bury McM. GA not seeing all this is very disappointing. He just wants to start his guy, and you have to wonder if all this QB talk was just a motivational technique. Very manipulative.
Whatever, live and die with Collins. He will be horrible vs good Ds. And now all this valuable playing time for McM has been squandered.
Completely agree. Obviously one game is a little premature to get too critical of Andersen and his staff, but it’s pretty disappointing to see the staff fall in love with a guy from day one without giving legitimate competition a chance. Seems very “Rileyesque”.
He looks like the type of player that’ll get injured in a hurry though. Thought he snapped his leg on that run earlier. McM will get his shot.
Garrett Owens! MVP! MVP!
So BeaverGopher said:
“22-10 Beavs. Kicker is our MVP.”
Looking pretty possible right now
The new S&C coach is a miracle worker. Mannion can really run this year, but can’t throw worth a lick.
huh?
#4.
#4…..
LOL
( ?° ?? ?°)
Wow, who saw that coming?
Collins throws it about as good as Don Shankin. Ugh
Beautiful pass for the TD!
I thought Seth couldn’t throw?
But Villamin can catch.
No kidding, Villamin made that underthrow look right on target. Just like we saw WR’s save Jonathan Smith.
That seals the deal. Collins is the QB. Yikes…gonna be a long season
I’d say that was a pretty nice throw by #4
QB HASN’T BEEN OUR PROBLEM AS MUCH AS PLAY CALLING AND VERY POOR OFFENSIVE LINE PLAY
WELL UM OK THEN
This
When you look at the stats this could easily be a 35-0 game. It’s a fairly dominating performance statistic-wise. Finish it off, Beavs.
Mascots taking off. Where ya going?
That was a better ball
The D is impressive.
D playing a shutout so far, when was the last time that happened under Banker?
Sun bowl against Pitt better team and better d I’m afraid nothing against weber but they suck
That was 2008. Pretty long time ago.
Oh, so 7 years ago. And while Weber state may suck, same could have been said about sac state, and banker didn’t help much with his shitty d, derp.
That was a nice toss by Collins
I do not know who is the better qb is. One game will not give us an answer and Baldwin will not give up on MM based on this game. Yet anyone who judges a qb by the tightness of the spiral is mistaken. Leadership trumps arm 150 % of the time. This game plays out exactly as I expected. However, weakness in kicking game is punting not fg kicking.
Both punters suck.
Duh i think i know football seth cant throw durp. Admit ur wrong.
Nice catch, Bolden.
If Baldwin hasn’t given up on McM, why hasn’t McM gone back in the game?
McM demoted to Cody Vaz status it would seem
MR…RB fumbles, never plays again
GA…..QB throws an INT, never plays again?
You mean, what have you done for me lately, because I am an ADD fan? A fres man qb making a major mistake will, sit, watch and learn. this is not a soccer trophy game where self esteem is the end all. You make a major mistake, you then put your butt on the bench. You sit, you burn, you brood and you repeat to yourself that this will not happen again. In the old days we called this learning. In today’s society ya’ ll want no consequences for crappy decisions. Everything must be even, even when it is not.
And if that was the speech beforehand instead of, “I won’t pull you if you make a mistake,” you wouldn’t be a liar.
Do y’all have any consequences for that crappy decision?
… I mean other than getting called out for it on a blog then having someone go off on the people calling you out for it… for something totally unrelated?
I would normally agree with the unrelated sentiment you do go off on though… except who the hell calls a screen of any kind in their end zone? It’s a screen. You’re in your end zone. You have to throw it. And you can’t just ground it. All your linemen have released the D, and they’re coming after you. You throw to a certain space if you can’t see your target, and he’ll be open because it’s a screen. Right?
Three times they ran that inside screen. Weber was all over it each time with progressively worse results. There is a school of thought in coaching that you get right back on the horse that threw you, or the horse wins.
Brown > Woods
And that’s no shit.
Bolden just isn’t very good.
I think it’s first game jitters
His junior year.
Yeah in that regard no excuse
Disagree. Bold in is hard working and reasonably good. He is just not very fast or explosive.
His fly sweep is useless. And his hands are obviously suspect. If you want credit for working hard get a job bagging groceries.
Garrett O-wins
What’s tough for McM is that it was a shitty play call, you can’t expect a freshman to be aware enough to eat the ball in that situation.
You can’t throw that, guy was sandwiched
Throw at his feet u should know that since high school
You can’t eat it. You’re in the end zone. This is why the call is really bad. The split second decision is what in this situation? You’re supposed to trust the call. Your target is not only open. He’s so open that he has time to pivot and wait for his blockers to pave the way. Right?
I didn’t see the exact formation on that play, but a lot of times the WR screen won’t even have a secondary option. That alone makes it a rough call near the endzone. They were probably thinking it was a safe pass, but what they failed to realize it was also a predictable pass without options.
Boise st leading fuskies 15-0 on smurf turf.
Good to see MM smiling again. We will need both QBs to be focused every game this year. Keep attitudes positive. Every game will have a few odd bounces. Team feels much more juiced this half. Go into Michigan with some confidence.
Beavos D playing lights out.
Sitake is overpaid, or something.
I really like this defense.
“My bad”
-Gary Andersen
Open field tackling is unbelievably good
It’s like our guys were given a textbook on it or something. Still a couple whiffs on corner blitzes, though.
GA record as OSU coach 1-0, 1.000, suck that Riles.
Game ball to BDC for scheduling Weber. Better Big Sky team wins. Big house will be ugly. JB
Shit, could you imagine if they had scheduled Montana?
or Eastern Washington, Montana State or Cal Poly
Oh the horror, the horror….
Sac St.?
*curls up into fetal position and sucks thumb*
Hard to take alot from a so-so performance in a game 1 vs a lower division team. Have to keep in mind, even the Fiesta Bowl team barely squeaked out a win vs Georgia Southern in their 1st game.
Curious to see if the playbook was purposefully dialed back for this game to not give Michigan much to scout. Also, no, Collins isn’t great, but he has shown growth since the Spring and even early fall camp. He’ll improve as long as he doesnt become too confidant and start making more risky plays.
If anything, this game should have lit a fire under McM’s ass. He needs to show some of that confidence Collins is overflowing with.
I thought it was EWU in 2000. That must have been a couple years later?
Yep, i had my state and direction wrong. Same end result though. Was a 2 pt game
Oh… and not a single bubble screen thrown all game. I hope nobody likes bubble screens.
Such a nice change seeing GA talking about expecting to win.
Can you imagine if Riley (not that he’d use a TO) would have called that TO to negate the int? So good to see an engaged, human, wide-awake HC on the sideline!
ESPN reporting Collins is starter moving forward!
@LombardiESPN: It’s official: “Seth Collins is the starter moving forward” – Oregon State coach Gary Andersen.
So if we move backward, McM is the guy?
the good…..
The defense
Tackling
Garrett Owens
The bad
#50. Must be the number, burn it
Penalties
Passing game
Offensive line. Got better later in the game though
Seriously. Retire that number and have a ritual final burning of that Jersey. Never to be worn again.
Is #50 our center (Mitchell)? I saw a holding flag thrown on a play that was bullshit. What’s wrong with him?
Yeah the one hold was horseshit. The other was a drive killer and 100% him getting beat.
Gotcha. I’m on an airplane and had some issues connecting to wifi for streaming so I missed chunks of the game.
What’s going through everyone’s heads:
Collins: Fuck yeah I’m the starter now!
McMaryion: This guy’s gonna get himself killed in the next game, then I’ll be the starter heck yeah!
Riley: Sale on Big Red gum, neat deal
Mitchell: I picked the wrong jersey number..
Peko: Finally!!
Beavergopher: Will need to drink heavily for the Michigan game.
Seems to me the question is not whether or not STG is a good QB or if 3M is a good QB; it is: WHICH ONE IS BEST? And, today, we did not learn the answer to that key question.
Blame coaching decisions, poor O-line play which kept the game too close early, or….dare I say..nepotism (as in STG is Andersen’s guy?).
Collins was clearly the superior athlete. Also has energy. I didn’t like how MM reacted to being pulled. Hung his head and pouted. Fuck that.
I’m hoping some of the offensive weakness was due to great familiarity between teams
Anyone else think that win feels like a loss?
Well let’s see… I’m thinking back to Sac State… Eastern Washington…….
NOPE
GO BEAVS
Yes,a loss on O
No, not on D or Sp Tms.
Overall, due to the level of competition, yeah a loss; but then it is the first game and we can expect significant improvement in the next week.
Not at all. This is a super young team with new coaches in a new system. The defense played great and the offense started to come together towards the end of the game.
no
New starting RB- Chris Brown
New backup CB- Victor Boldin
Thomas Sperbeck of Boise. Beavers did not want him. Best position is probably safety. He can really run.
Reser was dead. It just didn’t have the feel of excitment. After a couple of offensive series I think more than a few people began to realize just how good Sean Mannion was. Honestly, that was the most boring Beaver game I have ever attended.
Classes haven’t even started yet, have they? Schedule was also horrible. 5:00 weeknight. It should get better.
Start the 24th
Portland State last season was worse. Led 14-13 at the half. No thanks.
Yep, Riles was on the verge of pulling the FCS hat trick
I was in the stadium for sac state and eastern Washington disasters, bro, if that’s what you want, you can keep it, riles is in Lincoln now.
agree about the stadium vibe but that blame goes to Riley for sucking the life out of the fan base. I didn’t miss Mannion an iota.
Mannion was fine, it was his coaching that sucked it big time. I don’t miss them at all.
Chris browns vision is shit half the time tho. He missed a huge hole up the gut and instead ran into his blockers. Storm fuckd up that screen pass that was set up beautifully. 3 blockers and woods against 2 defenders and gets tackled. A rb can’t let that happen.
I would expect overall play to improve. Remember these are the first real reps.
I wouldn’t say that to his face. He’ll fuck your shit up worse than he did Rhihanna’s
One major plus. Tackling is exponentially better.
I was at the game, I had fun and I think we will be just fine. Seems like a lot of teams hsve sloppy 1st halves of offense in 1st games. 150 rushing yards from a QB W/2 passing TD’s and zero turnovers is a neat deal
The energy was weird, but my section started to get pumped after the half
Go Beavs. This was a great game, 26-7 for the Beavs, truly wonderful to watch. Did you get to watch? Glad I wore my old Beavs hat today that I sure that brought them luck along with your orange jersey. They led only 6-0 at half but with great defense with only one miscue for only 1 TD for Weber State in the second half to keep them in the game. They used both true freshman at QB and neither did much in the first half with a strong finish by Seth Collins at QB. Seth Collins came out in the 2nd half and marched down to a TD in the 2nd half and continued to great play with many great plays in both passing, handing off and rushing so I think he is now the probable starter with a very high QB rating. He was also the leading rusher for the game and kind of reminds me of Marcus Mariota. I was very impressed with the OSU defense that was somewhat lacking last season that kept them in this game throughout. Great coaching also. Next week on Saturday is against Michigan at their field. It’s going to be a tough one. Go Beavs!.
