  1. 24 points on offense and a harassing OSU D is enough for the W. Go get em Seth. Some slants, a few deep looks, Brown making the most of the start and Mageo and the D getting after it.

  2. I like how I go to the ESPN360 site to open the game, and it says Oregon State vs Michigan, but shows a picture of Oregon vs Mich State with the link.
    bastards…

  3. That was a very surprising drive. I feel like they definitely saw some weaknesses in film this week. Let’s hope that Harbie pulls a Riley and makes no adjustments.

  4. A Riley team would still be on their 4th play. This tempo is just such a breathe of fresh air. Great drive, although that pass to Villamin was a pick waiting to happen. Glad he’s tall!

  5. You guys ready to rethink doubt we have the best WRs in the Pac? ;)

They made Collins look good there, with VillyTron and Jarmon both impressive catches.

  6. We’re starting a lot of guys on defense I’ve never heard of. Solid stop, but it’s pretty disappointing that we could be up 14-0 if not for Mr. Anti Clutch.

Luckily this team doesn’t look nearly as scary as Harbaugh’s Stanford teams.

  7. If OSU could have gone up 14-0 Michigan fans and the country would have been stunned. This game has the makings of a street brawl. A Seth scramble or two and get Lucas a look also. We didn’t burn his redshirt for nothing.

  8. Great looking pressure on that 3rd down.

The announcers are so focused on MI… what they have to do, what they are doing… the Beavs are such an afterthought to them

    • Nah, beavs are the faster team…keep punching, keep m off balance…score quickly again…get another possession. They can start to make m doubt themselves…

  9. Refs calling a good game so far. Where is this crew from?

They got the hold on MI and the PI, both obvious. You’d think they’d get those calls at home, glad to see they aren’t

  10. Beavs holding there own so far. D has looked pretty good. Despite Villamin’s decision on that 4th down screen, I liked the play call and it was open. I’d go back to that one again at some point

  11. Gee announcers, What does the score have to be before this quits being a just a big michigan/Harbaugh ad and starts becoming an Oregon state ad?

  12. Three captain obvious observations:
1-Mageo is for real, angry do you believe?
2.Rudolph poor passing again hurts MI
3-the hurdle is simply part of Seth, hard to change.

  13. MI looking like MI now.

Beavs errors going to catch up with them…I sense a heart-breaker brewing and “what if” game

I don’t trust Collins at all playing from behind.

  14. Let’s see some McMaryion.
Don’t like the idea of Collins playing from behind. They’re going to put 11 in the box now (lol) and force him to complete a pass

  15. Good to see GA pissed on that penalty, imagine that, an engaged head coach. Those type of mental errors are killers, don’t think he will let that shit slide

  16. long drive there. Defense got worn down. Offense needs to pick it up on this drive before the half. Huge swing point right here. If Mich gets the ball back and scores again before halftime then gets the ball to start the 2nd half? Yikes

  17. stupid penalties by Caleb Smith continues. ugh penalties are catching up with us way too many. Come on GA you keep talking about it, but we are not seeing improvement…

    • Is there a Beaver player in recent memory who, based on physical potential and a role/opportunity, has underwhelmed as much as Smith has during his time at OSU?

  18. What the hell did Smith do for an administrative penalty? Cut that shit out Beavs. Don’t beat yourself. Shouldn’t have more than 5 penalties in any game.

  19. Not a lot of big blitzes or stacked boxes yet. You’d think we’d want to focus on the run and make their very mediocre QB beat us, but instead we’re playing back and dropping like 6 into coverage.

Not a fan. Dial up some bigger blitzes.

  20. Be fair to Bolden on that cross. It was a horrible pass.

… and his fades to Villamin are not good either. His best pass of the day was the quick hitch.

      • The ball was hot and behind his head. He had to twist behind and get his hands up at the same time. That’s way too much to ask of any receiver. In fact, we’re lucky it didn’t bounce off his helmet and get picked.

To be fair, MM did the same to Villamin on his first pass… high and behind. But it looked like Michigan had someone over the top, and that’s the only place he could have put it. The difference was a 6.5′ v. a 5.5′ WR… and the ball bouncing off his ribs. Still not a good pass.

  21. Ewwww. What just happened to our offense? Our running game has disappeared, for starters. And the “Collins run 80% of the time, throw to Villamin/Bolden the other 20%” distribution is not a winning strategy.

  22. Michigan gets the ball, too. And we stopped blitzing the QB, and their power run game is working. Basically, Beavs need a gift turnover…something big to change momentum.

MI did not win this game, Beavs just handed it to them in typical Riley fashion. I think these players still have a ton of Riley in them, despite what they may say. Actions > words

  23. I don’t get the conservative approach to defense, befuddling.

I think blaming Riley for the poor play is like crediting him for the good play that occurred in the first quarter. It sounds whiney.

This is GA’s team and its on him.

    • We shouldn’t be blaming Riley, but it’s tough when you see things that look reminiscent of Riley coached teams.

Time to stop posting so we don’t say more stupid things in the heat of the moment. I think, in the final analysis, the first half came down to leaving points on the board on offense. The Bolden and Villamin plays stand out as even bigger than the punt b/c they would have completely silenced the crowd, and who knows if we even get to that punt situation if those guys make the right plays.

      • I agree and understand that its takes time to change an large group/organizational culture, but what really disappointed me was the conservative D and the conservative call on 4 and 3.

Andersen preached aggressiveness since he got here; in each individual player’s approach to life, and the team’s approach to the game. He’s not adhering to his own supposed organizational culture.

And Bolden; bench him. “Players make plays…” or they don’t, and they don’t play. Again, inconsistency.

    • He said so, and I agree. But inherent in accepting that is that every one of our players is a frosh. Erasing the Riley/Banker mentality means erasing everything.

It’s more likely the youth/maturity of this team. Part of growing up is forgetting the fudge you’ve been taught previously.

  24. Ryan Navorro needs to walk back home. We gotta kick the ball out of the endzone, but I don’t expect Porebski to know that innately.

Plays that stick out: Treston DeCoud backing off on 3rd and 2, DeCoud block in the back, Caleb Smith personal foul, almost getting a punt blocked but getting a gift, sailing the ball 10 feet over the punter’s head.

      • True, forgot about that one. Bolden fumble because we had awesome field position and just coughed it up. Why Bolden was in there on that inside run is beside me; I’d trust Paul Lucas more in that situation. Plus after we bottled up Peppers, Kendall Hill with the bonehead facemask. I really hate our special teams.

  25. Still feel the D can keep this team in games all year, gotta believe the terrible ST screw ups can be overcome in the future. 2nd half will show a lot about what to expect down the road. The O still the big question mark for me.

BTW, Gina tweets that Storm is available, so apparently no injury.

  26. Defense – really good
Offense – pretty good overall (except Bolden). Inconsistent but stuff that looks fixable. Collins looks better than I expected.
Special Teams – utter disaster. I would guess over half our special teams plays involved a screwup, many of them costly. 2 high snaps, illegal formation, block in the back, personal foul (Caleb Smith). Screwing our field position at every turn. This has to get fixed yesterday.

    • Seriously. Like we actually look like we have some good things going on both sides of the ball. Defense is going to have that touchdown on their record but we all know that shouldn’t have happened. Offense has some good things going. But with a freshman QB we could REALLY use some good field position and we seemingly give it away every time. Caleb Smith grinds my gears because this is his fifth year in school and he’s blocking dudes laying down. WTF is wrong with him?

I’m glad this game is happening though, as embarrassing as it is. We have some mistakes that clearly need addressing.

  27. embarrassing is the only word that fits for me.

If all we do is clean up the stupid bullshit and play well, even if we lose, I’ll be satisfied.

  28. This is typical Beavs. I predicted 27-13, so was expecting a loss. Then they come out and look awesome, scoring right away, then several drives that should have resulted in points, so expectations rise, and I think, “They can/should win this, they are faster, etc.” Then, as soon as I buy into that, they start with all the typical stuff. In short, playing with emotions. Granted, some of that happens to every team (MI had awful penalties, etc), but this feels uncomfortably familiar. On the bright side, I see glimmers of hope that look much better than anything under Riley. The execution is just a hair off on offense, and it is killing everything. ST is obvious a disaster today, but that is probably an anomaly and could have to do with wind.

Thinking MI will start teeing off on Colllins and wearing down the D, and this could get ugly now if we don’t get an early TO.

  29. I disagree this D looks good. They look gassed after just 2 quarters, and they look mentally defeated. They looked good on 2 early drives. That’s the easy part. Keeping up that intensity is the hard part.

    • Agreed. This is vintage Harbaugh football. Grind down the defense with power running and timely play action passes. Beavs look young, outsized, and defeated on D.

      • Which is messed up. First three drives they looked superior, so much faster….get Jarmon and Lucas in there and try to win with speed. I don’t understand why they’re so hesitant to bench Bolden, yet they don’t give Woods 1 carry.

  30. Thank god we got our real RB in. Maybe we’ll move the ball again.

Missing the first half, then starting the second…is that a stealth suspension?

  31. Where’s all the Air Collins talk, media? Lol. He actually looks slow, and they keep running him up the middle instead of outside (where he is most effective).

Get MM in there! See what he can do.

  32. Seriously? That’s a pair of 3rd and longs where we called a QB draw. What stupid fucking playcalling.

If you can’t trust your shitty QB to throw the ball on 3rd and 7, maybe play someone else?

  33. There is nothing to be happy about regarding this game.

We beat ourselves. I could give the coaching staff a pass if we were just out played, but that clearly isn’t the case. Michigan is going to power run the clock out of this game. Defense is already getting gassed.

I don’t even see that we have talented receivers, though maybe the QB play is too bad to take advantage out of it. I am not seeing a lot of guys that are getting separation though.

  34. Turning it off, game’s over. UM’s just going to bleed the Beaver D with the power run. Probably should get MM in to see what he can do throwing the ball, but this game is pretty much over. Oh well…

    • He certainly looks like a frosh out there. He was hesitant on that 20 yard power trap… hesitated twice on the quick hitch. It’s better to make a mistake than it is to not play… which in itself is a mistake anyway.

  35. Let’s be honest here: if any of the QBs on the roster is starting in 2 years, the coaching staff will have failed to recruit to an acceptable level. Nothing but placeholders until they can bring in their guy.

  36. The only thing that will make this day tolerable is if the Ducks get routed by Michigan State.

Time to take the boat out and enjoy some sunshine……Dave Baldwin is Langsdorf 2.0 in the play calling today. Really wish we had the other Baldwin (EWU).

  37. I feel bad for MM. They keep putting him in these awful situations…lol

Might as well play him the rest of the game, though, and see if he can do anything. They need to find out if he is an effective passer by allowing him some rhythm and not pinned inside his 10 every time. At least find out who can play with the remaining time. Get Lucas in there, too. The personnel decisions have been really bad

  38. Will someone please explain why the Beavs always go for the high shoulder pad level tackles instead of taking out the legs? Again and again.. the RB, esp this one, is strong enough to just keep running…

    • the whole defense tackling has dropped significantly. The bruising Wolverines is taking its toll. We look smaller and slower. But we are playing underclassmen.

  39. I’m tired of the mm situation. Clearly sc is better, let’s let the situation go. Our offense needs a lot of work. Defense is pretty good just offense can’t do anything

    • Andersen sending Seth out there again may mark the end of the mm “situation”. A mistake not to get time for MM as he WILL be needed this season.

      • Yeah they need to let him play and get into a flow. He’s thrown 7 passes all year so it’s amazing people already know he is awful. He keeps getting put in in ridiculous situations, too, and then false starts, no pass blocking, etc.

I have no idea if he’s awful. He looks awful so far, but it’s 7 passes.

I know Collins looks very slow running vs a real defense. 10 rushes for 29 yards, and 79 yards passing. So barely 100 yards, yet he’s clearly the best option? Also, the idea he has “it factor” to win this game is out the window. He’s been very mediocre.

I don’t blame StS for the loss, but he’s done nothing. Neither has MM with his 3 throws. This situation won’t be resolved for six weeks

    • Agree. I have seen enough MM to last me until late October. Seth is superior athlete and even down 13 the only way we had any shot. Most teams think they are in it down 13 with 20+ minutes left. We threw in the towel. Seth needs all the experience he can get for Pac-12 play.

  40. I don’t really care if hes got better mechanics, I just don’t see 3M passing well at all. This talk that hes a “better passer than Collins” just hasn’t proven to be true. I think he lacks poise in real game situations. I’m fine with him playing out the rest of this game for experience, but I believe we win more games with Collins playing 90% of the snaps.

I’m also still very aware both QB’s are ridiculously young and fresh still, but I think Collins has proven hes the better choice.

  41. These announcers sound so happy now that the game is in hand.

McMaryion has looked awful so far. First drive he was pinned back, this one had bad play calls and no blocking. I’d like to see him get blocking, complete a few passes, and get into a flow. It’s so out of sync every time the guy is in there.

  42. Dave Baldwin has rarely made a good choice in his life. Puzzling why some were optimistic when he was hired. This year’s team is going to be historically bad, even by Beaver standards.

    • I think people who go out and slash their wrists after one bad loss in a new season for a new program that is THIS young…should get help.

Clearly they have work to do. Relax.

  43. Defense isn’t all that bad. Offense has been worthless since 2nd qtr. and special teams are rather special too. If those two areas learn to hold their own, then D looks better. Still needs improvement but the offense is making me feel sickly. Also, with adequate data points, it’s open season on Andersen era coaching.

For starters. I think Andersen needs to change to Anderson to highlight more focus on O production

  44. Qb’s – F
    Rb’s – F
    O-Line – F
    Wr’s – F
    TE – F
    DL – F
    LB – D-
    DB – F
    Special teams – F
    Head coaching – F
    Offensive play call – F
    Defensive strategy – F
    In game adjustments – F
    Halftime adjustments – F

  45. Reminds me of Riley coached games against Boise State…. Off to a good/great start only to end up folding and being beaten soundly by the end of the game.

    • Except they didn’t give up. They were tired and outmatched, but they still put hats on the ball, albeit ineffectively.

This had the same score that Cincy game had back in the day. But that game was atrocious because you could tell both sides just gave up before the half. This could have easily been 56 to 7 if not for the effort.

    • I am completely lost about why Paul Lucas (fastest kid in America in all of HS football last season) is getting ZERO reps before we get to conference play?! That is insane! Especially with how underwhelming Victor Bolden is! 70+ rec. last season and only 2 TDs?? That is a red flag there but he is very overhyped (I have said this for over 2 seasons now). I hope we don’t forget that he’s a true frosh that is not redshirting?!

I really want to buy into this staff but Brennan has no idea what he is doing. He’s doing exactly what he did last season-playing 3 guys at WR the whole game. I thought I remember Baldwin talking about 7-8 WRs rotating in a game. Why are we not seeing anything near that? I’ve said it before, the only reason Brennan was retained was basically he was the only guy left behind and GS wanted to have a remaining staff member to relate and help retain athletes. I think/hope, Brennan is gone after this season!

      Go Beavs!

  46. Most embarrassing is that on national TV in a game with considerable national audience Todd Stansbury is letting ABC/ESPN show the junior kids beaver at every commercial break. That logo was designed for 1st graders or even younger toddlers and here we are being mocked as a toddler like program on the big stage. I hope Andersen puts an end to this or OSU being a joke in games with real meaning will continue. Wake up Stansbury! Horrible image we are portraying. Grade school.

  47. MM has mental problems now….clearly gun shy, probably from that INT last week. Dude needs to get over it and start letting it rip. At this point he is awful, and Collins is very bad. Subject to change.

  48. So, Storm held out the entire 1st half and enters the action immediately after halftime. Hard to believe a senior leader was being disciplined, but maybe?
He looked like a leader on the sideline the one time I saw him.

  49. I disagree that sc is bad. He made some good plays first drive was flawless. I think play call got a little bit of trying too hard. The throw back to sc, than bolden at rb was a BIG mistake. Had we of kept doing the standard offense I bet we score on that possession and at a minimum it’s a close game, quite possibly Beavs win.

The team seemed to collapse after the shitty snap after a great punt and we never recovered. End of story. I think Riley has left his mark on this team and we will only continue to grow to get rid of that, but it will take time. I wouldn’t want to play the Beavs at the end of the season that’s for sure

    • Maybe if Bolden doesn’t throw 3 yards shy of SC or if that play isn’t called we go up 14-0 it atleast 10-0. Villamin decision to not get outside and then the punting flop sealed the loss. Get rid of penalties and that stupid little tots logo on ESPN. Pathetic that this has to be mentioned or Stansbury may let it continue. He still might. :(

    • Agree. SC didn’t look especially good, but didn’t look bad. Especially considering he’s a true freshman playing vs his first D1 opponent, on the road in a pretty hostile environment.

Lots of issues and blame to go around- I don’t think SC deserves an inordinate portion of it. He’s our best chance to win at this point. Hope he keeps steadily improving, and learns to keep his feet on the ground and slide.

Hopefully we can bounce back vs San Jose St at home, and carry some momentum into the Stanford game.

    • SC will never be a consistent winning PAC 12 QB. He makes one read, it’s not there, and he panics. He’ll run all over terrible teams but today, against a real defense, he averaged 2.5 yards per carry. He missed wide open receivers throughout the game (almost got Jarmon killed) and even many of his completed passes were dangerously floated to the WR. Plus the play where he gave up midplay after a flag was thrown showed another example of his bad attitude. Maybe I’ll be eating crow someday but, as someone above stated, I think it’ll be a really bad sign if McM or SC are getting any real playing time at QB two years from now.

      • There’s probably a good reason Garrettson in on the sidelines. He will be the starting QB next year with Collins running some Wildcat type stuff on occassion.

      • Maybe I’m ignorant here, but is it normal for a punter to be coached to take a safety in that sort of situation?

Seems like in many cases you would rather let your defense try a goal line stand. If you can hold them to a FG, I’d think 3 points and the Beavs getting the ball would be better than 2 points and the other team taking another possession. An extreme case- say inside the 5- might dictate a safety, but like I said it’d be hard to track that at full game speed in a highly unusual panic situation like that.

        • Yes but normally that’s when you are already in the endzone. I see what Porebski was trying to do there. He thought he could get rid of the ball but then realized, too late, that was not going to happen! I don’t blame Nick for that. There were two horrible snaps in a row! The play before, Porebski pinned them on their fucking 2 yard line but somebody committed a mental error (and continued to play) which then resulted in the biggest meltdown in Oregon State history.

          Go Beavs!

          • Biggest meltdown in OSU history? There was a game several years also where OSU led UCLA 14-12 starting the 4th quarter and lost 40-14. I believe the kick returner fumbled three times in a row.

        • I doubt they ever practiced a situation where the ball travels 50 yards behind the line of scrimmage on a bad snap. Probably the worst snap I’ve ever seen. Not going to blame the punter for making a bad split-second decision after that.

    • That’s a tough judgment call to make on the fly…have you ever seen a punter deliberately take a safety?? I haven’t…

In hindsight it would have been a good move but I’m not sure how you would coach that exactly…seems like that decision would be very much situational.

  50. There’s some disturbing things I have taken away from this game.
    1) We as a team, are weak, mentally and physically. And btw, Michigan, is not that great of a football. team.

    2) I want to “trust the process” but when you start to do some of what the old regime did with not acting upon what you say, you’re going to lose me really quick! Caleb Smith and V Bolden should have been taken out way early in this game for stupid mental mistakes. Some reason, Baldwin has a huge hard on for Bolden (who gets tackled/tripped by the first defender almost every time, drops passes put right in his hands and fumbles the football on an important drive?????). WTF?! What happened to “go find somewhere else to play”, if you’re going to commit penalties (C Smith dives into a guy after the whistle to earn a penalty???? and he plays the whole fucking game- that’s Riley-esque man!). Talk is fuckin cheap man! I would not care if we lost with younger back ups in there but when you keep the guys that commit constant mental errors in the game and we still get rolled, that sends the wrong message brother!

BTW- our receiving corps is not even close to the best in the PAC! Not even close!

    Go Beavs!

  51. Hate to say it, but MM might as well think about transferring to a different program at a lower level. I was unbiased about the QB situation but it’s clear, in my novice opinion, that he just doesn’t have “it”.

    • Yeah Seth Collins and his 2 yards in 3 quarters. Great stuff. MM has thrown 7 career passes. Get a clue, buddy. Nobody can make a [fair] call on the QBs at this point.

Collins is very bad based on a moderate sample, MM is awful based on a minute sample size. Any other claim is ridiculous. The discussion should be avoided until week 6. It will take that long to resolve.
